CETO Register of Sites Office
« on: July 01, 2018, 10:33:35 PM »

Applications for a site of International Importance should be submitted to this office. Once your application has been received the CETO administration staff[1] will forward the information you present to representatives of each nation who are members for their consideration. For a site to be admitted it must be approved by 3/4 of those casting votes within the allotted period. Once your application has been submitted and e-mailed to representatives we shall put aside a period of no less than 48 hours to permit members to request further information. Voting shall then be opened.

Guidelines for applications.

1. Only sites that have an interest to more than one nation may be submitted.
2. Only the government of the nation in which the site is located may submit applications.
3. Once a site is refused it may be resubmitted at a later date should new information be discovered.

OOC Guidelines

1. Be sensible, don't submit hundreds of sites
2. Claim only what actually fits your nation. For example if East Moreland claims the Pyramids it doesn't make cultural or architectural sense
3. Don't straight rip off a site, if you submit a site make it clear how you've tied it to your nation and made it unique.
4. Just because someone has used images of a site doesn't mean you can't. For example should someone submit the Stoneton Sky Temple as something else that's cool. Just include an explanation for similarity in the application.
5. I reserve as RP Mod the right to refuse your applications if they make no sense.

To apply please submit the following form.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site: Arc-Royal Standing Stones
Location: Arc-Royal, Kingdom of Seaforth

Standing Stones Currently

Interpretation Of Standing Stones At Completion

Computer Generated Model Showing Alignment With Cardinal Directions

Description of Site:
The Arc-Royal Stones (AKA Royal Stones, The Stones) are a prehistoric monument in Arc-Royal, Seaforth. It consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, 7 feet (2.1 m) wide and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in Seaforth, including several hundred burial mounds. Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Radiocarbon dating suggests that the first of the smaller stones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, although they may have been at the site as early as 3000 BC.

Before becoming the Kingdom of Seaforth in 1162, the area was comprised of several feudal kingdoms roughly corresponding to the modern day provinces of Seaforth. These kingdoms were populated by the celtic-druidic clans of old. Several years prior to 1162, Jocelyn of Rhodes, his surviving Hospitallers and their families landed on and settled the island of Somerset. As the small settlement grew, they became close allies with Ulric, Chief of Clan Cameron and minor lord in the area of present day Halifax. When Ulric's King was killed by a rival clan, he took up the reins and led the revenge attacks against that clan. Aided and advised by his friend, Jocelyn, the campaign of revenge became one of unity. Over several bloody years, the clans of Seaforth became allies or were defeated, culminating in the final battle outside of Arc-Royal. Desiring a lasting peace Ulric, the first King of Seaforth created the seven Dukes of Seaforth from among the clans to rule their lands in his name. To reinforce this peace, King Ulric was crowned at the Arc-Royal Standing Stones, a place sacred in their shared druidic religion. In respect to the King and the nation and peace he forged in the wake of war, every King or Queen of Seaforth has been crowned at the stones.

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:

1.  The complexes of monuments at Arc-Royal provide an exceptional insight into the funerary and ceremonial practices in Seaforth in the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Together with their settings and associated sites, they form landscapes without parallel. The design, position and interrelationship of the monuments and sites are evidence of a wealthy and highly organised prehistoric society able to impose its concepts on the environment. An outstanding example is the alignment of the stone circle on the axis of the midsummer sunrise and midwinter sunset, indicating their ceremonial and astronomical character.  A profound insight into the changing mortuary culture of the periods is provided by the use of The Stones as a cremation cemetery, by the Long Barrow, the largest known Neolithic stone-chambered collective tomb in Seaforth, and by the hundreds of other burial sites illustrating evolving funerary rites.

2. The disposition of the stones provides evidence to some the first known examples of astronomy and humankind's foray into the realm of science.

3.The monuments of the Arc-Royal Standing Stones demonstrate outstanding creative and technological achievements in prehistoric times. The Stones are the most architecturally sophisticated prehistoric stone circle in the world. It is unrivalled in its design and unique engineering, featuring huge horizontal stone lintels capping the outer circle and the trilithons, locked together by carefully shaped joints. It is distinguished by the unique use of two different kinds of stones, their size (the largest weighing over 40 t) and the distance they were transported (up to 240 km). The site also demonstaes the evolution of megalith constructions as the building took place over several centuries.

4. Throughout a large portion of the history of the site, The Stones  have been a major religious site for the practice of Druidism, the primary ancient religious practice of Celtic peoples. Both Celts and their practice of Druidism has spread across Mundus and while the active practice has waxed and waned over the centuries,  active practitioners across the world view The Stones as an important and sacred site.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site:- Wellow Coastal Instillation Park
Location:- Wellow, Bakkermaya

Description of Site:-

Constructed in the period 1900-1920 the Park was an attempt by the artistic community of Wellow to bring art to everyday life. The art community set about building twenty homes around a series of terraces and plaza's each of which was influenced by various themes from the islands mixed history of having been part of Lodja, Paracambi and Bakkermaya during its history. Today the twenty homes have become part of the local council with one having been converted into a Temple for Marissa. The 19 other homes are today museums dedicated to the area and the artists who helped create it.

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:-

1. The park is one of the best surviving examples of attempting to make art part of an urban landscape from the modern period. The park has been immaculately cared for in its 100 or so years of history.

One of the 19 houses that still survive. It has fantastically shaped roofs with unusual pinnacles, however fits in well with the use of the park as pleasure gardens and seem relatively inconspicuous in the landscape when alongside the flamboyance of other buildings within the park.

2. The design of the park includes several attempts to incorporate art with functional transport. The park is criss-crossed by a series of viaducts that are mainly built one on top of the other and wide enough to accommodate a motor vehicle the size of the average early motorcar. The top roadway works its way clockwise around the park area while the lower one goes counter-clockwise. There is even space beneath the roadways for pedestrians to walk in the shade. It marks a unique attempt at the art being equally as important as function.

The viaduct system from ground level.

3. The park also features a number of examples of how it was possible to create an artistic environment while facilitating public facilities. One such great example are the tiled benches that are dotted around the area. These are constructed by the Wellow born artists Maxwell Grondel and once more combine signature artistic styles with function. The serpentine nature of the benches allowed people to sit in the plazas while the curves allowed them to have privacy. The tiles were also angled to allow water to drain from the benches rapidly allowing them to be used without getting wet shortly after any downpours.

The fact that despite 100 years of use on a daily basis the park remains in such fine condition and is perhaps one of the most well preserved examples of the artistic movement of the early 20th Century that sought to combine art and practical living solutions makes it something of importance to Mundus.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site:- Dečani Monastery
Location:- Zrenjanin, Kingdom of Niš

Description of Site:- Started by Stefan Dečanski and finished by the great Nišavan Emperor Stefan Dušan (both of House Nemanjić) in the early 14th Century, the Monastery has stayed intact and relatively preserved for over 7 centuries. The church has five-nave naos, a three-part iconostasis, and a three-nave parvise. With the dome, it is 26 m high. Christ the Judge is shown surrounded by angels in the western part of the church. There are twenty major cycles of fresco murals and it features over 1000 compositions and several thousand portraits on the inside. The frescos and portraits represent the best preserved collection of medieval Nišavan art, anywhere.

Аrchitectural plan of the monastery

Interior

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:-

1. Dečani represents an exceptional example of medieval architecture and sculpture on the territory of the Imperial Rus spiritual sphere, i.e. an original
combination of the traditional Imperial Rus church with contemporary Romanic-Gothic architecture of the South, the largest preserved Niš and Eastern Rus monument; the monastery of Dečani is unique among Orthodox monasteries in East Arayne, an East Christian temple built and decorated by the Catholic craftsmen from the lower southern coast region.

2. The Dečani paintings are the largest preserved fresco entirety of the Medieval Rus world, the largest source of data concerning Medieval Rus iconography, and an exceptional witness to the diverse style trends in Medieval Rus art during the middle of the 14th century; remarkable series of mural paintings are of outstanding artistic quality, done by numerous painters of different knowledge and origin (from Samantra, Niš, Halych), who worked for almost 15 years and covered the area of about 4000 square meters.

3. During four centuries following their creation, the Dečani wall paintings exerted an exceptionally great influence on painters who decorated the walls of numerous churches in medieval Nišava, especially after the restoration of the Peć Patriarchate in 1557 on the territory of the former state; the role of the Dečani frescoes in the development of the Orthodox art of the East Arayne area during the period of Communist domination was decisive and it is unavoidable in research of the post-Imperial Rus monuments.

4. Dečani Monastery is closely connected to protagonists and events of the greatest importance for medieval history of the East Arayne area, especially of the 14th century and the changes that took part with the organisation and the borders of the countries whose territories occupied the area, such as Imperial Rus, Nišava, Halych etc.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site:- Hatsukaichi Peace Memorial
Location:- Akiōta-Honmachi, Hatsukaichi, Izumi Prefecture, Kinai Province, Empire of Daitō

Description of Site:-
In the city of Hatsukaichi, there is a place of solemn contemplation, a site where, just over half a kilometer above, the world changed forever and thousands of lives were snuffed out in an instant. The Hatsukaichi Peace Memorial Park, more simply known as the Hatsukaichi Peace Memorial, stands at the hypocenter of the first atomic bombing in the history of mankind, with its famous “A-Bomb Dome” being the only structure in the area to survive the bombing on the 5th of August, 1945. The memorial was officially established in 1954, however, informal memorials had been erected on the site as early as late 1945, when a city mourned for those who it could not bury. The centerpiece of the Peace Memorial is the Cenotaph, covered by a concrete, saddle-shaped monument inscribed with the phrase “please rest in peace, for we shall not repeat this error”. The cenotaph itself contains the names of all people killed by the bombing, and the monument is aligned to frame both the eternal flame and the A-Bomb dome. The eternal flame, or “peace flame” as it is formally known, has burned since the park was established and is intended, as the name might suggest, to burn in perpetuity out of respect for the fallen and as a reminder of the threat posed by nuclear weapons, even now that they have been formally made illegal. Throughout the park, there are three bells which visitors are encouraged to ring. Also on the site is a mound containing the ashes of approximately 70,000 victims of the bombing, as well as a number of other memorials and museums surrounding the attack and the history of nuclear weapons. As the years have gone on, smaller memorials have been established in honor of the innocent victims of those killed in wars across the world, with the most recent being one commissioned in the aftermath of the Andean Genocide.

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:-

1. Beyond its status as one of the most visited locations on the eastern bank of the Mutsu, the Hatsukaichi Peace Memorial Park is, of course, located at the hypocenter of the first atomic bombing in the history of mankind. At its center is the A-Bomb Dome, which, as mentioned, was the only building in the area to survive largely intact following the blast. Said building persists to this day, forever a ruin, a reminder of that day and of the dangers posed by nuclear weapons, both in the hands of nations and now, following the attack in Pyrettania, smaller groups. Yet even so, it is also a symbol of hope, for all around the memorial, the city which once conjured up images of death and destruction has been reborn from the ashes like a phoenix, as though to say that even from the darkest of hours, one can always, always rebuild—not replace—what was lost.

2. The Memorial is home to numerous sites commemorating the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of wars throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, from the Allied States and Daito to Nueva Ardia and Kalasin. A solemn reminder of the true cost of war, all surrounding the cenotaph and the eternal flame.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site:- Miyajima Teido Shrine
Location:- Miyajima Island, Izumi Prefecture, Kinai Province, Empire of Daito

Description of Site:- The Island of Miyajima, located in the Mutsu inland sea, has been a holy place for the Teido faith since the earliest of times. The first shrine buildings were, in all likelihood, erected sometime in the 2nd century AD, however, the present shrine dates to the 13th century, yet is an accurate reflection of the 12th century construction style and was founded by the most powerful leader in the country at the time, Taira no Kiyomori. The property covers 4.312 square kilometers on the island of Miyajima, and the buffer zone (26.343 square km) includes the rest of the island and part of the sea in front of the shrine. The property comprises seventeen buildings alongside three other structures, coming together to form two shrine complexes and ancillary buildings on the island.

The buildings of Miyajima-jinja are in the general tradition of Teido architecture, in which a mountain or natural object becomes the focus of religious belief to be worshipped from a shrine, generally constructed at the foot of the mountain. The harmoniously arranged shrine buildings in the property are located on the sea and the scenery, with a trinity composed of the man-made architecture in the center, the sea in the foreground, and the mountains in the background, have become recognized as a Daitojin standard of beauty. The shrine is an outstanding and unique architectural work which combines manmade achievements and natural elements. It is tangible proof of the great achievements of the Taira Clan prior to their fall from power. Even though the buildings of Miyajima-jinja have been reconstructed twice, this was done in a scrupulously accurate manner preserving the styles that prevailed from the late 12th century until the early 13th century.

The property is a Teido shrine, a religion which centers on polytheistic nature worship, the origin of which goes back to primitive times. Over its long history, it has developed into a religion which became unique in the world, adopting influences from abroad to combine with its own indigenous traditions. Daitojin spiritual life is deeply rooted in this religion.

Integrity
The boundaries of the property include all the shrine buildings and natural elements that are indispensable for demonstrating the harmonious building arrangement and the scenic beauty of its original construction by Taira no Kiyomori in the 12th century. Furthermore, the remaining area of the island and a section on the inland sea forms an overall buffer zone to control proposed development activities, and thus the integrity of the property is intact.

Authenticity
The authenticity of the Miyajima-jinja monuments and landscape is high and in complete accord with the principles of the conventions on authenticity held by the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organization. As an ancient place of religious or spiritual importance, the setting continues to reflect the scenic harmony of the monuments, sea, and mountain forest and is properly maintained from both cultural and natural viewpoints. The design expressing the monuments' historic value, including the character of the plan, structure, exterior appearance, and interior space, remains unchanged from its original state. In addition, the original materials are preserved to a great extent in the structural framework and other fundamental parts of the monuments. When new materials are required, the same type of materials are used with the same techniques based on detailed investigation. The property still retains a high level of authenticity in terms of form and design, in materials and substance, in traditions and technique, in location and setting, and in spirit.

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:-

1. The configuration of the shrine buildings of Miyajima-jinja presents an excellent architectural scene on the lines of the aristocratic residential style of this period.  It is an outstanding work combining manmade and natural elements. The buildings exhibit great artistic and technical merit and are sited on the sea with a backdrop of impressive mountains.

2. The shrine buildings of Miyajima-jinja are in the general tradition of Teido shrine architecture in Daito and provide invaluable information for the understanding of the evolving spiritual culture of the Daitojin people, namely the Daitojin concept of scenic beauty.  The most important aspect of Miyajima-jinja is the setting of the shrine buildings as the central part of a trinity with the sea in the foreground and mountains in the background, recognized as a standard of beauty against which other examples of scenic beauty have come to be understood.

3. The buildings of Miyajima-jinja, which through scrupulously accurate reconstructions have preserved styles from the late 12th and early 13th centuries, are outstanding examples of the ancient type of shrine architecture integrated with the surrounding landscape, the physical manifestation of humankind’s worship of nature.

4. Daitojin spiritual life is deeply rooted in ancient Teido belief which is centered on polytheistic nature worship. Miyajima-jinja provides important clues understanding this aspect of Daitojin religious expression.

AN APPLICATION FOR SITE REGISTRATION

Name of Site:- Pyramids of Nafu and Great Sphinx of Nafu
Location:- Nafu, Kingdom of Clysperis

Description of Site:- Located near the City of Nafu, the Pyramids of Nafu centre around its dominating feature: the Pyramid of Ikhet, which was constructed for Pharaoh Hor-im-hotep. The site has been preserved as closely to how it would have appeared originally, largely owing to the differing priorities of Clysperis (which maintained the original culture of Abydos) and Abydos (transformed by the Muslim conquest of the nation). The Pyramids of Nafu overlook the City of Nafu which was established long after the construction of the complex in the year 642 AD.

Why is the site significant beyond its own nation?:-

1. With its construction in 2470 BC ( years ago) the largest of the Pyramids of Nafu, Ikhet recently celebrated its 4,493 anniversary and stood as the tallest structure built by human hands for more than 3,700 years. Seeing an effort which saw the quarrying of an estimated 2.3 million large blocks weighing 6 million tonnes in total, with the stones themselves being neither uniform in size or shape, the construction of Ikhet represents a truly massive engineering effort of the ancient world. While the majority of the limestone used was sourced from the Nafu Plateau other blocks were imported via the river Ḥ'pī. Smaller pyramids were added to the Nafu funerary complex, in addition to two mortuary temples connected via causeway (one being close to the pyramid and one closer to the Ḥ'pī). Tombs for the family and court of Hor-im-hotep, in addition to three smaller pyramids for the wives of Pharaoh Hor-im-hotep as well as a smaller satellite pyramid make the Pyramids of Nafu a significant traditional, historical and archeological site.

2. Unlike the pyramids and other similar sites seen in Abydos the Pyramids of Nafu have been meticulously preserved and protected from incidents of theft from the tombs within. In many ways they offer a window which looks back over 4,000 years, offering a rare opportunity to look back into the ancient world as it then appeared. Having survived the Soviet occupation of the Kingdom of Clysperis my Government has invested vast efforts to preserve this window to honour those who have come before us, to respect our culture and that which our People built, and also so that we may utilize this unique window into the past in the present and well into the future.

3. The Sphinx of Nafu stands guard over the Pyramids of Nafu and, today, I am pleased to say that it stands restored following its defacement in the times of Soviet occupation of the Kingdom. The oldest known monumental sculpture in Clysperis it is, perhaps, also one of the most recognizable sculptures throughout Mundus. Carved from the bedrock of the Nafu Plateau the Sphinx is a monolith, the plateau itself serving as a quarry for the pyramids and other monuments constructed in the area.

Clysperi modern culture is deeply rooted in our respect and preservation of that which came before, a fact which the Nafu Complex perhaps best represents.
