In Memoriam (LB, ND, A.S.A)
« on: September 22, 2020, 09:42:30 PM »
Kulturministère vu Léiwebuerg
Ministère de la Culture du Lionbourg
Kulturministerium von Löwenburg
Ministero della Cultura del Leonburgo

To:-
- Ministry of Culture of New Derusmia
- Ministry of Culture of A.S.A

The area where the borders of our countries align has a rich and diverse culture, in addition to its long industrial history, agriculture, and tourism. It situated at the crossroads between Latin and Germanic worlds which is reflected in the variety of languages spoken there. The region is also home to distinctive traditions, which is for example shown through the celebration of Saint Nicholas Day, Christmas markets, or traditions involving the Easter hare in Lionbourg, directly influenced by its two larger neighbours.

It's the very reason as to why I'm writing this message to our counterparts in New Derusmia and A.S.A, since it has become more vital for all of us to do our part in preserving the long lasting legacy left behind for future generations. As much as we should emphasize on the positive aspects of our countries' relations, it would be a diservice to neglect its negative aspects in the form of warfare which has caused immense bloodshed, destruction and sorrow between our three great countries. In order to honor those who've fallen, both military and civilian, as well as providing highlighting past mistakes through an educational manner, it would be a benefit for us all to engage in common projects and activities pertaining to history and culture. These could range from memorials and museums to films and tv-series, as well as the heads of states gathering on a designated location of importance on an annual basis.

Unless my colleagues have other suggestions for venues, I propose that we meet eye-to-eye in the Lionbourgish town of Altkirch, located in the Sundgau region where it nestles at the heart of shimmering landscapes, lush green valleys and authentic heritage at the border along New Derusmia and A.S.A. I'm looking forward to be hearing more from you so that we may discuss about taking a common path towards perserving a shared cultural and historical legacy.

Best Regards,

Iréne Kahnt
Minister of Culture and Justice of Lionbourg

To: the Lionbourg Ministry of Culture

I gladly accept your invitation to Altkirch. I agree that our nations should be working cooperatively towards a future where our three nations' unique but combined histories are preserved for the education of the future generations, and where both the triumphs and the sorrows of the past can be remembered and memorialized. It is my earnest hope that these meetings will benefit our nations for the years to come.

Respectfully yours,
Evelyn Geller
New Derusmian Minister for Culture and History

It is the belief of the Allied States that a series of talks between the three nations is worth pursuing and that these can and will lead to better relationships between our nations. We however do not believe dwelling on the past is to be beneficial as we seek to move forward. I believe those issues are long for the past and do not need raking over to establish a better future.

In order to facilitate talks please expect the Allied States Foreign Affairs Minister Lorenzo Nespoli will attend.

Regards

 Praetor Julius Devaux

Altkirch Town hall

The Sundgau region is one Lionbourg's southernmost regions, located at the crossroads where the county's borders touches both A.S.A and New Derusmia. Its picturesque fertile loess soil has traditionally favoured a non-specialised agriculture, with crop production being largely organised into strips. The main crops are maize, wheat and colza. In medieval times, monks raised carp in the small valley ponds and carpe frite (fried carp) remains a regional speciality. The images of two carp also appear in the coat of arms of Sundgau.

It was in the region's capital, Altkirch, that the Lionbourg government decided to hold the meeting, a modern town with an original spirit and strong dynamic commercial base catering to 15,000 people. It also happened to be located at frontlines of the past which saw a lot of wartime action, which was deemed to be more fitting enough. Its town hall, despite being small in size, was known for its beauty and wrought iron balcony; this was where the upcoming talks would take place.

"Thank you so much to the both of you for being here today; hopefully all of us will come home with our hands full at the end of this session." Minister of Culture Iréne Kahnt said to her foreign counterparts, after they gathered themselves in the room attached to the balcony. A long table filled with snacks and liquids had already been put in place for the ministers and their respective staff. Iréne could only hope that this would be a productive endeavor.

"Before we formally begin with the details, are there any questions or concerns from either of you Ministers that we ought to adress?"
