Racing for Co-operation (RS, Tamora, Pramoria and Abuqiya)
« on: October 18, 2019, 01:42:15 PM »
To:-
Emperor Abbas of Tamora
Queen Aisha ofPramoria
His Excellence,  Hakim, Mujahid bin Baaqir Al Ghaffari of Abuqiya[1]

The nation of Royal Seleucid is thankful for your recent support regarding the situation in the Kyne. As such I would like to convey my thanks in person while also discussing some ways of us co-ordinating these movements of vessels more effectively. With that in mind and with the timing coinciding with the Queen Zeinab Trophy, the culmination of our nations thrilling Camel racing season. Traditionally our family have hosted guests of high standing at this event since my great-great grandmother established the event. This year I would be honoured if you or a representative of your nation were to join us for these discussions.

We look forward to meeting.

With Thanks

King Heydar of Royal Seleucid
 1. Not sure exactly of the title so assume its whatever it is

Pramoria will gladly respond to your invitation. My first husband , Mahdi Farahani, will join you for this event since my schedule doesn't permit me to attend personally .

May the spirit of Holy Alya be with all of us!

Ipsus race track was a playground for the people of the capital. The grandstand hosted executive boxes for the wealthy and well connected while the grass banks over the far side provided a perfect view point for those unable to afford the entrance fees. It usually didn't stop them having a little flutter though and a handful of borderline legal bookies catered to their vices. In the grandstand the royal family were regular fixtures of the final race of the much loved camel racing calendar. A series of black SUV's ferried them in, Heydar and his two wives, Princess Afrodhiti arrived with her 12 year old nephew Prince Golzar.

The crowds parted to allow them to enter through the VIP area and Heydar made a point of stopping and speaking to a few people he recognised. He was in good spirits as he recalled the days he and his father had attended the races together. It was some of his earliest memories and he had tried his best to form the same kind of bond with Golzer however the time he spent in the military meant he had only attended a few times. He was hoping for more children from his wives Chyrssa and Haniyah and mentally promised to correct the mistakes with his next son.

He motioned for Golzer to join him, they were dressed in matching white linen suits and Heydar introduced him to an old friend from the Air Force before heading up to the families lounge which overlooked the finishing line and winners circle. Some camels were already lining up for another race as he and his family got settled. Golzar went and stood on the balcony watching the line up until his father's hand on his shoulder sparked his attention. "Today I want you to watch and listen carefully. Think of it as a lesson in Princehood OK."

"Yes father" Golzar said dutifully.

"But until they arrive" Heydar handed the boy a phone. "Here is 100 Drachmaes. Place a bet for me and if it loses it comes from your pocket money." He ruffled his boys hair as Golzar spoke to the Royal Bookmaker on the end of the phone. Heydar settled down sat between his two wives to watch the action on the gigantic screen on the wall of the suite. The highlight of the day would be the final race but it didn't mean he couldn't enjoy the build up. Downstairs he could hear the distant drifting of notes of a fanfare, they signalled the approach of the first of his guests. Heydar waited patiently for the doorman to announce the arrival and motioned for his family to stand.

Abbas travelled to Royal Seleucid alone. His First Wife Alya was aboard on foreign visits, which of lately were more and more often, and presenting himself in public with another of his wife was against Manist customs.  Crown Prince Jamshid and Princess Thekla were also busy preparing for the wedding and an Imperial wedding as the one they would be having required lots of preparations.

The recent crisis has been an opportunity for Djerb to show of its new navy and also an excuse to further cement ties with Ipsus while encouraging other MidAranye nations to show more willingness to stand up to the major powers of Mundus. What Abbas didn’t expect was that recent crisis would also cause Clysperis and Royal Seleucid to drift further apart but he was neither worried nor displeased by it as it saw it more like an opportunity, just as he saw this meeting.

He arrived at the Ipsus race track and was escorted to the VIP area:

As he entered the area, he saw King Heydar and his family standing and approached them:

“Hello, friend!! Good to see you again. It’s also a pleasure to see your lovely family.” He then greeted Heydar’s wives and his sister. He also focused his attention of Golzar for a couple of moments:
“I see the young prince is growing up fast”.
“Princess Thekla also wanted to attend but she and Jamshid are busy with the wedding. She misses you and talks a lot about you” referring to the Soter family. “I hope to see you all at the wedding.”
“ I see I am the first to arrive” he said while looking around to see if any representative from Pramoria or Abuqiya were present. “Well, that gives some time to concentrate on the races”. He then waited for the hosts to show him where he could sit to watch the races and chat.

Mahdi Farahani arrived at the track race with his two sons: Amir (12 years old) and Assad (10 years old). He was a man of few words and the sons were like him.

You could never know what was on his mind exactly. The economic crises that was just starting in Pramoria, making new strategic alliances or finding ways to grow his oil business.

He entered the VIP area and greeted Heydar and Abbas:
"Your Majesties, It's a pleasure to meet you."

Heydar was pleased that Abbas had arrived first as he had a favour to ask him. "I'm pleased my sister is preparing for marriage, its long overdue. Naturally we shall all be attending, I couldn't miss my little sisters wedding." He was just about to suggest them having a seat in the adjoining office when Mahdi arrived along with his two children. "Its a pleasure to meet you." Heydar extended a hand. "Golzar perhaps you, Amir and Assad should head down to the stables, check our camel for the Trophy race is in good shape. Afroditi will you go with them." The Princess stood and ushered the younger royals out and headed down to where Majestic Grace, the Soter Stables prize camel was being prepared. A boy aged no older than Golzar and Amir was busy grooming it and upon seeing the royals snapped smartly to attention.

"Your Highnesses" he bowed. "I am Parvez, humbled to be the groom of His Majesties stables" In truth the Soters had very little direct day to day input to the stables, instead just funding it but expecting big results. The results often came because the family could afford the best, finest breeding stock, state of the art training facilities and medics.

"Carry on Parvez. We're just here to see how the girls doing" Afroditi patted the Camel's side. "Do you have camel racing back home?" the Princess asked the two guests. "Its ok you can pet her."

Back upstairs Heydar turned to his first wife "Chyrssa I need a quick word about the upcoming wedding with Emperor Abbas. Please ensure Prince (OOC - Or whatever the title is) Mahdi is comfortable."

"Of course" Chyrssa guided Mahdi outside to the balcony. Silver platters of fresh fruit and various other snacks lined a table by the door. The seats were more like armchairs than the plastic stadium seats that the grandstand beneath them had and each chair was made of leather with the Soter family crest embossed into them, Chyrssa sat down and indicated Mahdi should join her. "I'm sorry my husband has wedding business to attend to, its something we're looking forward to. The formal connection of the two families who have been friends for such a long time." Haniyah appeared with a small silver teapot and poured a strong mint tea for each of them before sitting at the opposite side of Mahdi making an effective Mahdi sandwich between the two Queens. "So I understand the Queen was busy? Nothing major I hope. We do hope she'll be invited to the wedding it'll be nice to see more nations of our neighbourhood coming together."

In the small office Heydar indicated for Abbas to take one of the two chairs before pulling his own round so that the desk was not between them. "What I have to ask is delicate. Its two favours in effect....please feel free to say no but I would appreciate your discretion on both." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "Forgive me I'm no scientist." he stumbled awkwardly trying to pronounce some scientific term, "or as I prefer to call it Living Cement. Its that stuff you may have read about where our scientists have tried making a runway by spraying a biological agent on normal soil or even sand. I'd like a testing ground to show the stuff works. I'd therefore like to gift a few barrels of the stuff to you. Additionally I think its time that you see support from us how you have supported us. Therefore I know you have cultivated a close relationship with the Bene Gesserit. I understand they have captured several KDF aircraft but I imagine they don't control any proper runways. If perhaps you believe the Living Cement is effective you may wish to pass some to the.....what do they call themselves....Truthspeakers?"

"Now as for the second favour it will sound a little odd.....well more odd. The issues between myself and Clysperis. Its part of a game. I bear the Pharoah no ill will, she is merely a useful tool. I needed a way of getting the Cultists of our nation behind me, she provided the ammunition. Next I needed to show that we are not swayed by the opinions of others, once again she provided that ammunition with her criticism of our Iwi debt resolution. Both these things have helped bring our people behind us, something a new King needs to do. Now while I'm not about to turn around and change all of this I'm not someone who wishes to see Midaranye destabilised I realise the Pharoah needs to retain power. As such I may have a little solution that may be beneficial. I have read that you have troops in Clysperis and I assume your helping out on the ground. Those troops will need resupplying. If some of your supply drops where to land on enemy positions that would be an extremely sad thing, especially if those supplies happened to be mortar units. You see when our forces withdrew from the Iwi several thousand pieces of equipment were abandoned and I have it on good authority the Maori still use them. We however have updated or equipment yet retained some for training and nostalgia purposes. What I'd like to do is box some of these up and include some mortar shells, badly made mortar shells, ones likely to explode while still in the mortar itself. As I see it you're likely to see issues with the rebels having casualties, they'll begin to distrust their own supply lines and it'll also look like the Maori are sneaking weapons into Midaranye. Now I would prefer this operation to not be known until a date in the future I determine. A time when I no longer need the Pharoah as a foil, at that point I will need a person able to confirm what we've done. If you wish to not do this I perfectly understand. I'm investigating other avenues."

Heydar sat back and waited for Abbas response.

Abbas also greeted Prince Mahdi when he arrived before going with Heydar in the office for a private talk.

Abbas listened carefully to Heydar’s proposal about the “living cement”. It was a technology that the Tamoran government was interested in acquiring. Tamora had a large private military industrial complex and such cheap and ingenious technologies were never developed in Tamora instead having massive expensive projects like the Su57 which made families like the Kadyrovs very rich.

“I appreciate the gift and I will see to it that the Bene Gesserit Truthsayers will get some of them.”

Abbas expected that will cause some issues in the Morelander and Rokkenjiman capitals but he was not concerned. He wanted to capitalize on the civil war in Kataine and show both at home and abroad that Tamora could play a major role well beyond MidAranye.

Regarding the Clysperis situation, Abbas answered:

“I am glad that despite the “policy” differences you had there is an agreement that the Pharaoh must remain in power. The Pharaoh is family to me and we are helping out there” he said referring to the news about Tamoran troops in Clyperis. “Now I have no issue with doing what you asked and I think it is a great plan. What I do have an issue is doing it behind Akasha’s back. If the operation is to take place she needs to know about it. Not only is it her country but she’s also family I won’t keep her in the dark. “

“Now I do want to ask you. How are you planning on ending this standoff?  Because we both know that this can’t go on indefinitely.”

"I am afraid we disagree about the Pharoah needing to know. There is at the moment perhaps what is best called a vaccuum of trust." Heydar began to explain. "What I mean by that is there is no trust but no real distrust. That just means that we feel at the moment it is better for us to keep things the way they are with them criticising our policies and our people at times while we do our best to simply ignore them. The last thing we want is the Clyperies military commenting on our involvement. Perhaps then it is best we leave this idea for now." Heydar was rather saddened their scheme wasn't going to reach fruition but it was time to address the question Abbas had asked him. " This standoff will end when one of two things happens. Either the Maori stop kidnapping our people and murdering them or the Maori settle their debts one way or another. We can not permit them to keep threatening our people or undermining us, we don't wish military action but the Maori leave us with little choice."

“I can ask Akasha to be discrete about RS involvement so as to not have it become public news. She needs to know about, not her whole military. So if that alleviates some of your concerns I can do that. Otherwise, as you said, we can think about this some more and decide another time.”

“I understand your position, and you have my full support but we both know that the Maori cannot be reasoned with, at least not while they have such powerful allies backing them. I think we need a plan that doesn’t just rely on the Maori to act in a reasonable manner. As long as it’s us against them I don’t think they will accept that they have to stop their provocations, we of course won’t stop defending our people but we can’t keep going with the standoff indefinitely.

Personally I think we need someone who we can rely as a backup to broker some kind of agreement between us and the Maori. “

"Without being rude I don't yet have the trust of the Pharoah being discreet." Heydar shrugged his shoulders. "She, just like the rest of world, was capable of coming to our nation during the Jewel of the Desert and as you yourself know that is a time for diplomacy as much as shopping. Yet instead of coming to meet a neighbour she took to the internet and meet with The Conglomerate from half way across the world. We shall not support the rebels and we shall do what we can to disrupt those who would but I will not send our military to intervene in a nation that has of yet foresaken its neighbours hospitality. As for the Maori I don't really see many nations that are in a position to do what you suggest."

“She is focused on building relations with nations outside of MidAranye and has perhaps neglected to work more with other MidAranye countries but she remains committed to strengthening the region” and then moved on to the other subject since he was of the opinion that the matter was not going anywhere.

“I am afraid you are right on the Maori question. It is why I think that we should look for such a country from among the active diplomatically or from among those that come out isolation. I think we need a plan B so that we have more options should something like this happen. “
