As soon as the results of the Merian tender were available it became clear that the Quintelian government had an interest in the affairs of Merina and were in part at least supportive of the government there.

Alya Safavid decided to arrange a call with Nora Sofia Aliena, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Quintelia, to see if they could agree to some kind of joint support for the government of Merina.

As her staff motioned to her that the secure call was ready, she picked off the phone:

“Ms. Aliena? Thank you so much for agreeing to this call on such a short notice. I will try to keep it short and therefore get to the point.

I believe you are aware of the developments in Merina since your government has also won part of the tender to provide military equipment for the Merinan government. The Tamoran government fully supports the government of Merina and is trying to help them suppress the ongoing revolt and terrorist elements that threaten the stability of the country. I would like to know what is the position of the Quintelian government on this matter and if it is interested in a potential joint support for the Merinan government?”

Diplomacy and Events / The Tamoran experience ( Tamora & San Huberto)
« on: April 06, 2020, 05:56:19 PM »
Samira Hanifnejad had no diplomatic experience, she had never represented the Tamoran government in any capacity before. Yet she did represent Tamora on the world stage, or so she liked to think, by winning two consecutive Ozzie(ooc: think the rough equivalent of the RL Oscars) awards for best international film something she had to admit pleased her greatly. Yet she was fully aware that wasn’t a substitute for diplomatic experience. However, when an Ayatollah of your faith asks you to represent your country, as an deeply religious conservative Manist, she could not refuse.

“Let’s see were this goes” she said to herself before beginning to write.

Addressed to: República Popular de San Huberto

To whom is may concern,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Tamoran government to extend on invitation to visit our country. This year marks a premiere in our history as the first year when the Tamoran Empire and our close friends and allies, Royal Seleucid, have decided to make a bid to host the Mundus games and be in the spotlight for all of Mundus to see us.

Because of this the Tamoran Empire wants to help nations that so far have had little contact with Tamora and even the MidAranye region to get a chance to experience and understand Tamoran culture. It is for this reason that I would like for your government to send a cultural delegation to our country to observe and learn of our culture and to also provide their opinion on that experience. We hope the visit would be exploratory and perhaps open doors for future cooperation.

In the event that your would agree to our invitation, I have arranged and attached a flexible itinerary for the visit.
Please let me know of your decision.

Respectfully yours,
Samira Hanifnejad
Tamoran Ambassador of Culture

Proposed itinerary:
-   - visiting the great landmarks of Djerb
-   - a free debate with university students at Djerb Imperial College on the topic of what do each of our nations bring to Mundus.
-   - a visit to the great temple of Djerb
-   - attending a cultural event in the federated kingdom of Akkar
(ooc: the itinerary might change depending on my lack of imagination)

Addressed to: the Empire of Kinkhnland

To my esteemed counterpart,

We share the same continent and yet Divinity has so far seen to it that our two nations did not engage so far except for the minimal diplomatic and trade contacts. With your permission, I would like to take the opportunity, that our joint bid with the Emirate of Royal Seleucid offers, which has seen us engage in a Mundus world tour to better explore your nations culture and heritage.

Should you agree I would like for our staff to find a mutually agreeable itinerary that would allow our delegation to both experience and understand some of your nation’s greatest cultural and religious landmarks, concepts and achievements. I believe such a visit will help better understand the cultures our two empires and perhaps identify common values we both share.

I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid
Head of Foreign Affairs

Addressed to: His Excellency, Secretary of state R. Edward Young

Your Excellency,

Our two nations have had little diplomatic contact so far and while there are clear differences between how our societies are organized, the values they aspire, the traditions they hold dear and the form of government they have chosen to lead their people, I do believe that there is room for a constructive dialogue which could lead to possibly future cooperation which will serve the interests of both our nations.

You are perhaps aware that the Tamoran Empire, alongside our friends and allies the Emirate of Royal Seleucid, has placed a bid to host the Mundus Games of this year. This is a first not just for our two countries but also for the region of MidAranye. I have started a continent wide tour with the aim of visiting the countries of the continent we both share in order to present to them the arguments why such the joint bid would be worth supporting and also listen to any objections or concerns that might be raised.   It is for this reason that I would like to set up a meeting with our office and visit the Federal Republic of Centralia in the coming week which would allow us to talk in more detail about this. I have also attached an annex with the possible subjects which we might approach for discussions should you agree.

In the hope of future collaboration, I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid
Head of Foreign Affairs

Annex A: Topics proposed for discussion:
-   Assessing the current relations between the Tamoran Empire and the Federal Republic of Centralia.
-   Exploratory talks about opportunities to increase cooperation between the two countries.
-   Discussions on the Tamoran-RS joint bid to host the Mundus Games.
-   Exploratory talks about the possibility for our government to facilitate religious activity (including but not limited to missionarism) between our countries.

OOC: Since it was agreed via Discord that the host will agree for us to visit Centralia, I went ahead with the RP.

Preparations for the visit

The Tamoran Foreign Office had been very busy the last few months. Alya Safavid had visited more countries during this time than in the whole previous year and it was beginning to take its toll on her. However, she could afford to rest as she had plenty more countries to visit. The last few days she prepared intensely about the meeting with Centralia. While she was perfectly aware that the stakes were low and expectation of success were lower still that didn’t matter to her. She was preparing because her job was to represent Tamora aboard and she wanted to do that as best as she could.

She spent hours with her aids trying to understand Centralia as best as she could. Unlike most nations in Mundus, Centralia was not a monarchy and instead elected its leader. Yet unlike some republics it did not allow the people to elect just anyone as their leader and the country had a strong ruling elite under the name of Patriot Party whose leader was also the leader of the Republic. Alya liked the fact that Centralia had not succumbed to mob rule as she considered democracy and that the elites in Centralia had not abdicated their responsibility to rule, even if they did it with the pretext of a popular mandate rather than one entrusted by Divinity. Centralia was a Christian nation. Christianity was a minority faith in Tamora and although Alya was not very knowledge of this religion she was familiar with it. Like most Orthodox Manists, she didn’t feel comfortable attending religious ceremonies of other faiths and preferred people of her own faith/ However, she clearly preferred the Monotheistic religions of Midaranye, like Christianity, to the whole variety of polytheistic religions that spanned across Mundus.

And yet she there was much she didn’t know Centralia. For one it was not clear how close they were to Tytor and by extension to Rokkenjima. It was clear from the military hardware they had that they had at least good relations with Tytor at one point in time but the relative isolation on the Mundus stage suggested that at least now relations between Centralia and Tytor were not that close. Aside from the connection with Tytor, none of Alya’s advisors could come up with any other nations Centralia had connections with. They seemed content to focus on their domestic policies rather than international affairs. And yet their president found the time to show his support for the terrorists in Clysperis.

Alya also had to consider what gift she would bring to the hosts. Since Centralia was a Christian nation and Christians were about to celebrate Easter soon, their most important holiday, she decided that holy water from the Jordan River in Vanora would be an appropriate gift. Some of her aids disagreed saying that a religious gift might not be fitting for a nation that was a de facto police state but she did not listen to them. Religion was central to Tamoran society so avoiding a religious gift for fear of offending them felt she like dishonoring Tamora.

Arriving to Centralia

Alya was informed by her staff that they would soon enter Centralia’s airspace. It was just in time as she had just finished her prayers. She rehearsed one more time out loud some basic phrases in English ”Thank you very much for your hospitality”, “It is an honor” etc. She pronounced them with a heavy Parthian accent. Like the overwhelming majority of  Tamorans, Alya did not speak English. Parthian, her native language, was the de facto lingua franca in many parts of MidAranye and the Tamoran nobility studied the rest of the languages of the Empire as a sign of respect for the peoples of Tamora rather than learn foreign languages. Alya was no exception, she spoke Arabic and Seleucid but she had little knowledge of English. While she hand a translator with her, she did want to be able to express some words in the language of the hosts even if they were very basic.

After the plane landed, she got up and prepared to go down the stairs. She was dressed in a traditional black abaya dress and hijab. She also wore silk black gloves. Tamorans considered inappropriate for men and women to touch in public and hand shaking with the opposite sex was frowned upon. Wearing those gloves gave her some comfort that should the hosts be too friendly and offer a handshake she could thus avoid a direct touch and not refuse them.

She looked around for the welcoming committee to see how she would proceed further.

(ooc: if the hosts are waiting for her at the airport she greets them if not she heads out to the point of meeting, I left it open for however you want to proceed).

Diplomacy and Events / A friend in need… (Tamora and Merina)
« on: March 31, 2020, 06:00:10 PM »

To: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Merina
Addressed to: My esteemed counterpart

I am writing to express my support for your government in these difficult times for the nation of Merina. The Tamoran government has always supported stability of Mundus nations as it considers that a necessary requirement for a peaceful and prosperous Mundus. Whether it is in Clysperis, where the Tamoran Empire has deployed troops to fight terrorists elements that are very much like those currently threatening the stability of your country, or in Zimalia, where we offered our support in order to avoid a military intervention by the Rokkenjiman Empire, our policy has always been the same.

From the experience we have gathered in dealing with the situation in Clysperis, which has sadly turned into a civil war but we are hopeful the government will win thanks in small part also to our help, is that the longer you wait in dealing with the terrorist elements the more costly in lives it is in the long run to end the conflict. It is for this reason that we advise you to use appropriate force in dealing with the terrorists rather than waste precious time with talks.

It is for this reason that the Tamoran government has decided to allow me to enter in talks to supply you with the adequate military equipment necessary to defeat the terrorists in your country and ensure a peaceful Marina.

Should your Excellency agree to accept our offer of support, we can begin negations at your earliest convenience.
I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid

Confidential communication for the Heyran government

We are contacting you in order to formally express our interest in acquiring assets in the Heyran Republic. We are aware that the cuts in subsidies made by the Christian Pope have affected the finances of the Republic and we would like to reach a mutually beneficial agreement where the Tamoran Empire acquires some of the Christian Church’s property in Heyra.

Should the Heyran Republic be interested in selling such assets or broker such a sale, please note that the Foreign Office is willing to enter into negotiations to acquire some of those assets.

Diplomacy and Events / The Nueva Ardia crisis: Tamora and Quintelia
« on: December 30, 2019, 07:43:23 PM »

Addressed to my esteemed counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nora Sofia Aliena

Firstly, allow me to take the opportunity to express satisfaction, in the name of the  Tamoran Empire, of the continual growth and improvement of relations between our two countries. The Empire of Quintelia is not just an ally of the Tamoran Empire but it is also the nation with whom Tamora has the closest relations in the  Ardian continent. I am certain that relations between the two nations will continue to improve in the coming years and decades.

Secondly, I am approaching the Empire of Quintelia in regards to the situation currently taking place in the Republic of Nueva Ardia. The country finds itself in a difficult geopolitical context; it has historical issues with Toshikawa and rather poor relations with the Allied States of Ardia as well as Rokkenjima. If we also add the fact that the Republic of Phuebra has just recently embarked on the long road of reconstruction, we see that the Republic of Nueva Ardia has no friends or nations able to help among its among its neighbors. In this difficult geopolitical context, President Melos is facing on one side serious threats to the stability of the country with the strike  of the farmers that risks to cripple the economy of the country and on the other hand a sudden cut of funding from Toshikawa. We have recently witness a similar cut in funding by the Catholic Church and that has led to public uprisings in the Conglomerate so the risk to the internal security and stability of Nueva Ardia is great. The Tamoran Empire has already publicly expressed support for President Melos and in our opinion he is a man that is uniquely qualified to provide stability in the country and the region. It is for this reason that we are asking the support of the Empire of Quintelia to join us in offering support to President Melos and thus ensure that a key player to the stability of the region remains in place. We would like to propose the following measures in regards to the current situation in Nueva Ardia:

-   The Empire of Quintelia to express public support for President Melos. The Tamoran Empire has already done so but it is important the President Melos has as much support as possible on world stage, especially among key influential countries like Quintelia.
-   Join us in asking the government of Phuebra to show support for the Melos administration. Phuebra is the only neighbor with which Nueva Ardia has no issue with and Quintelia’s word carries weight in Phuebra across both the Muslim and Budhist communities.
-   The Empire of Quintelia to supply free food to Nueva Ardia as soon as possible via air transport so that the Melos administration has some relief from the  pressures of the street. The government of Tamora is willing to share equally the costs of the food as well as associated costs such as transportation. I am sure that Dizon Farms will benefit greatly from this action.
-   The  Empire of Quintelia to join the government of Tamora in asking the Phuebran government to allows us to send food via their country across the border. It will take a significant amount of time until Quintelian and Tamoran ships will be able to reach Phuebran ports and then have the food distributed to Nuevra  Ardia but hopefully the Melos administration will have some confidence that as long as it holds out help is coming from our two countries.

Thirdly, I  would like to add that we are open to further suggestions regarding ways to help the Melos administration. We believe that should the Empire of Quintelia agree to join us in helping Nueva Ardia and its people then we would have earned the trust of president Melos which will allow us to open new avenues of cooperation as well as show again to all of Mundus that our two countries can work effectively in bringing stability to various parts of Mundus while other certain governments ignore such issues only to have the crisis unfold and then ask for a military solution.

In the hope of future cooperation on the issue, I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid

Diplomacy and Events / A secure message for Mr. Anginer (Tamora and TC)
« on: December 23, 2019, 07:34:14 PM »

I am contacting you, Mr. Anginer, to formally express our concerns regarding the recent events in the Conglomerate where a part of the population seems willing to support an overthrow of the current order. While the internal affairs of the Conglomerate would normally not be an issue of consequence to Tamora by virtue of the contract I have with Elysium they are now. The fact that I now see Kaitaine flags in your capital is something that cannot but raise serious concerns.

I have found the cooperation with the Conglomerate to be beneficial for the interests of Tamora and we would like it to continue. I have also been pleased with the way we have cooperated in the past and this is why I have decided to approach you, Mr. Anginer.

I would like to inform you that you have my full support and trust so that you bring order back to the Conglomerate. Should you find that Tamora may help in a manner that will bring you at the very top of the Conglomerate and thus help restore order in the Conglomerate I am willing to help. A revolution in the Conglomerate could potentially wreck what has been achieved in Elysium and I am determined to not let that happen. It is for this reason that I would like to inform you that should the Conglomerate succumb to chaos and in its aftermath a new viable alternative does not take its place then I would like you to lead Elysium and attempt to continue its initial mandate.

I hope my fears remain unfounded and that the Conglomerate manages to survive the current crisis.

Abbas Safavid
Emperor of Tamora

Economics and Industry / Djerb International AgriShow 2019
« on: December 23, 2019, 07:20:17 PM »

Djerb International AgriShow 2019

The Djerb International AgriShow has a tradition dating back to the early 1950s but this first time the AgriShow has gone international inviting participants from other countries to present their products ranging from agricultural machinery to fertilizer and silos. The AgriShow also hosts a series of conferences where businesses can present their solutions to various challenges facing the agricultural sector.

The change from a national show to an international is not by chance. The main sponsor of the event, Jalal Deer, strongly supported the idea. According to Gholam Dabiri, the Royal Seleucid food crisis showed vulnerabilities in food security of the MidAranye region and it is the hope of Mr. Gholam Dabiri that events such as these will continue to put pressure of governments, whether local or national, to  take measures that should a new crisis take place, the countries of MidAranye in particular would better prepared to deal with it.

In the following days we will bring you more news from the first international Agrishow hosted by Tamora.

The inauguration ceremony

Agricultural machinery was on display all over the expo pavilion.

Outside the pavilion, manufacturers could demonstrate the capabilities of their tractors, harvesters etc.

The friendly staff is ready to receive visitors and offer advice.

Spoiler:  ooc explanations • show

I plan on doing a few short post relating to agriculture (in the widest possible sense) of the MidAranye region. If you want to post, fell free. You  can say you have an area where you  show off your agricultural machinery, organize a conference about a particular issue relating to agriculture or something else. Slava Lavosk, Kaitaine, Rokkenjima and Lakhzovia cannot take part because of political issues, all others are welcomed.

Diplomacy and Events / Asking a favor( Lakhzovia & Tamora)
« on: December 17, 2019, 07:04:14 PM »

To my Esteemed Counterpart,

I have asked our friends in the Emirate of Royal Seleucid to relate this message to your office. The state of affairs between our two countries, which no longer share an embassy, has forced us to resort to this approach.

I would first like to take this opportunity to express the gratitude of the Tamoran Empire regarding the manner with which the Republic  Lakhzovia have treated the anti Manist attacks in your Republic. We understand that without the protection of the authorities the situation could have escalated resulting in more harm for the tiny Tamoran diaspora residing in your country.

Secondly, I would like to reiterate that the Empire of Tamora remains committed to preserving its traditional institutions which date back to the founding of the nation and that will not change regardless the opinion of the government of the Republic of Lakhzovia or any other government for that matter. We believe that any dialogue between us and our counterparts must be based on this fact.

Thirdly, I would like to request your help regarding a matter of national security for Tamora. I have attached the details in Annex 1. The Tamoran Empire will remain grateful should the Republic of Lakhzovia help us on this matter.

I firmly believe that this is an opportunity for both our countries to move forward to towards better relations.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid
Head of Foreign Affairs

OOC: the details of the request will be given via Discord.

To: His Excellency, First Minister al-Nour

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Your Excellency, in the name of the Tamoran Empire, for the support Qiyadi State has given Tamora in helping to address the humanitarian crisis that is affecting the Clysperi people. The imperial government of Tamora has taken on the responsibility of both ensuring that stability returns to the Clysperis Kingdom but also that the Clysperi fleeing the conflict to other MidAranye states are given help and support. The three refugee centers opened in the Qiyadi State are of invaluable help to that goal and are an excellent example of cooperation of MidAranye countries.

Secondly, the Empire of Tamora is fully aware that despite the fact that the Qiyadi State has not publicly said so, it is experiencing economic hardships as a result of the current civil war in the Kingdom of Clysperis. As neighbors, the imperial government fully understands this and has prepared a 100 million dinars(USD) aid package aimed at alleviating some of the economic downturn caused by the civil war. We would like for the aid to be shared equally between the central government of the Qiyadi State and the government of the Kamyarmuj FAR, with the condition that the latter use the money to build a forth refugee center with the rest of the money to use at its discretion.

Thirdly, we would like to assure the Qiyadi State that the Tamoran Empire is making every effort to restore stability to the Kingdom of Clysperis and bring peace to the MidAranye region. It is for this reason that the imperial government has dispatched Imperial troops to the Kingdom of Clysperis and will continue to do so until the security threat there will be resolved.

Fourthly, the Imperial government is fully aligned with the government of the Qiyadi State on the position that the MidArnaye region must always remain free of dictates of outside powers and will explore all avenues to see the non-MidAranye troops currently in Clysperis or its waters leave once the civil war is over if not sooner.

Fifthly, we would like request, in the interest of national security of the Tamoran Empire, that your government turn over the Khouri and the Malouf families to our custody. The individuals previously mentioned currently reside in the refugee centers of Abuqiya and we have credibly evidence to believe they are intelligence operatives of the terrorist organization calling itself “the Confederation.” We have reasons to believe that their activities are a direct threat to the lives of the Tamoran soldiers fighting in the Kingdom of Clysperis and therefore it is imperative that they be turned over to our custody. The Qiyadi State has always been a country that has fought against terrorism and I am certain that your government will not allow a terrorist organization to use the Qiyadi State as a haven from where they conduct activities that threaten the national security of the Tamoran Empire.

Lastly, I would like to confirm to Your Excellency that the Imperial government of Tamora remains more committed than ever to good relations with the Qiyadi State and will continue to seek ways to increase cooperation between our two governments.

Respectfully yours,
Alya Safavid

International Organisations / OPEN meeting: the situation in Clysperis
« on: November 09, 2019, 12:54:58 PM »

“Following the public announcement made by a group called the Clysperi Confederation, which is engaged in an armed insurrection against the legitimate government of CLysperis, in which OPEN is asked to send representative to the so called “Clysperi Confederation” we believe that a formal response/statement on the situation is needed.

We propose that the current situation in Clysperis be treated as an internal matter of Clysperis and as such the organization will not send any representative to the “Clysperi Confederation” or engage in businesses with such an entity. Only representatives of the internationally recognized Clysperi government will be allowed to represent Clysperis in the meeting of OPEN.   “

Diplomacy and Events / A common bond: Tamora and Zerchea

To my Esteemed Counterpart,

I would like to offer my congratulations in the name of the Empire of Tamora to your decision to emerge from isolation.

I personally remember how the nations of Mundus welcomed us when the Empire decided to come out of isolation: criticism, sanctions and at best indifference. We were fortunate however to have our neighbors, the Emirate of Royal Seleucid, with whom we always collaborated in an excellent manner.

Since your great nation also has enshrined in its law the institution of slavery, I expect that many that were unfriendly to us then will also be unfriendly to you now.  I therefore propose that we meet and see if we can establish common ground on which to build a future partnership that will benefit both our nations.

I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully yours,

Volos, capital of the federated kingdom of West Seleucid, Empire of Tamora

Thanasis Polakis was just getting out of his Obsidian limousine and walking towards his private jet. He was just about to start his longest business tour yet: Safren, Vanora, Abydos, Allied States of Ardia, Nueva Ardia, Toshikawa, Marseilles and Aquitaine. As he got to his plane, he was greeted by his assistant:

“Welcome, Mr. Polakis. I hope everything is to your liking. Please tell me if there’s anything I can get you.”
“Everything is ok, thank you Sofia. The usual will be fine.”

Spoiler:  Polakis’s private jet • show

Sofia, Thanasis’ assistant, waiting to greet Polakis.

The usual in this case meant a glass of his favorite wine which Sofia was quick to bring it to him.

As soon as he got seated Thanasis started working on his laptop. He was going to visit all those countries in an effort to raise funds for Haghighi Dam. However, that was just part of the reason why he undertook the tour. Just as the press correctly assessed, there was a high possibility that he would raise no funds on his tour. The objective was to raise awareness of the need of funding that the project had (which worked as the Clysperi Pharaoh herself had provided financial support as soon as she heard of the need in funding) as well as to provide cover to the press. Because in case things didn’t go well in his tour he would seek alternative means of funding. In fact he started writing an email that moment:

Dear Mr. Ares,

I am writing to you in regards to an investment opportunity that I administer in ZImalia. The opportunity in question is the Haghighi Dam which is one of the largest infrastructure projects in that country. I have attached the details of the project to the email as well as a summary of the project. We already have investors from several countries including Tamora, Zimalia, Royal Seleucid, Pramoria, Krimeon and Clysperis and are now 90% funded. I believe the project is a rare opportunity as such massive infrastructure projects are rare anywhere in Mundus.
Me and my staff are available for any further questions you might have.
I look forward to your reply,

Respectfully yours,

I am writing to express the worry the Empire of Tamora has in regards to the latest developments occurring in the South of Ardia. It is the opinion of the Empire of Tamora that the First Empire of Rokkenjima is showing an ever increasing expansionist policy not just in Ardia but throughout Mundus. The First Empire not only broke all commercial and diplomatic relations with us but it is actively funding the Communist government of Kaitaine and supporting the government of Lakhzovia, both of which are hostile to Tamora. They have threatened Zimalia with military action and have now acquired two new overseas military bases further expanding their influence. In your region, they are now supporting the Republic of Sinsu, which in our opinion is extremely powerful already. That combined with its new allies, the Kingdom of Tytor and the Kingdom of Novincia, which are new reunited in the reborn CSTO makes the First Empire of Rokkenjima a threat for the stability of the South Ardian region and I argue for the stability of Mundus.

It is these concerns that have made me contact your government. The Empire of Tamora and the Second Imperial Chinese Republic are oceans apart but in the past have cooperated in a satisfactory manner to the benefit of both sides. Furthermore, the economic cooperation between us through the MidAranye Commodity Exchange, while not spectacular, is consistent and in the opinion of this government has enabled a certain level of trust between us. It is for this reason that I believe our two nations should seek to cooperate more in order to protect our interests from the security risks posed by an expansionist Rokkenjima.

Before I conclude, I do however feel the need to mention that any cooperation taking place in the future must be conditioned by having Second Imperial Chinese Republic take note and care of the security of the Muslim community at the border with Sinsu (ooc: assuming there are such compact communities at the border and the TYP newspost has not been retconned). We do understand that in matters of conflict other priorities are given precedence but the Empire of Tamora cannot cooperate with nations that specifically target for bombardment Muslim and Manist communities. I am sure in the case of the Second Imperial Chinese Republic that the incident was an accident as was confirmed by your statement. We therefore believe that our condition of not targeting the said communities is therefore superfluous and should not impede our potential future cooperation.

I look forward to your reply.

To my Esteemed Counterpart,

We are writing to inform your government of the upcoming announcement that we will be making regarding Midaranye. The Empire of Tamora will soon announce publicly that the Empire will view government interference by a non Midaranye country in the affairs of a Midaranye country as an aggressive action and military intervention by non Midaranye countries will be seen as hostile actions. The Empire believes this is a natural evolution of the current state of affairs in Midaranye and is meant to provide the countries of Midaranye the security needed to continue their development without foreign intervention.

The Tamoran Empire remains firmly committed to the stability of the Midaranye region and will continue to seek cooperation with nations which share its perspective of the current affairs of the region and the whole of Mundus.

Diplomacy and Events / Djerb calling Ipsus (Tamora and Royal Seleucid)
« on: September 07, 2019, 11:04:47 PM »

After the meeting with Pharaoh Beketaten was done, Abbas instructed his staff to get a hold of King Heydar.  He knew that Heydar was on his honeymoon so he instructed them to explain their counterparts in Royal Seleucid that it is nothing urgent and only get him on the line when was convenient for him as this was not urgent. After all, the man was on his honeymoon, and in MidAranye a man would go on a honeymoon only from time to time.

The next day the staff informed him that they got a hold of Heydar:

“Hello, friend! I hope all is good in your honeymoon and that you are enjoying your new lands in South Markazi. I want to say again that it was a wonderful wedding ceremony that you had. I also hear Queen Chyrssa is making good use of your palace while you’re gone and organizing a women’s council. Your sister Thekla is also going there, I feel like she has accommodated very well to life at the palace and is eager to get married. ”

“I called you to inform you about an announcement I plan to make regarding Tamora’s foreign policy. I plan on announcing publicly that Tamora will see any government inference by a non MidAranye country in the internal affairs of a MidAranye as an aggressive action. Furthermore, any military intervention in MidAranye by a non MidAranye country will be considered a hostile act by Tamora. MidAranye has expanded in recent years as new nations have emerged from isolation, quite a few of those nations have similar values to ours and I want to give them the confidence to continue their current policies without fear of foreign government interventions. Of course current arrangements and agreements would not be affected by this and only future actions.

I want to know what you think and if I have Ipsus support on this.”

Diplomacy and Events / Family matters (Clysperis and Tamora)
« on: September 01, 2019, 02:53:19 PM »
Once Beketaten's convoy entered the imperial palace’s courtyard, the palace doors opened and Abbas appeared so that he would be greeting Beketaten himself, a rare public gesture of courtesy.
Once he greeted Beketaten, he invited her into the palace and escorted her into one of the large dining rooms. The table was already full with various local dishes and the staff was careful to attend to both Beketaten's and Abbas's every need.

Abbas did not jump straight to the topic and instead asked Beketaten about the state of her kingdom and especially the traitors plotting in the dark. He was concerned about the wellbeing of Beketaten as he believed that those traitors could not be happy with how Beketaten was shaping things up.

Once the introductory conversation was done and both of them had the chance to try some of the local cuisine, Abbas approached the main subject:

"I must offer my apologies for Naser. His mission was supposed to be an economic one and yet he seemed to have forgotten that and instead has gone where he knew full well that wasn't appropriate. This is why I have asked him to return home and will stay here. "

"His behavior was not appropriate for a prince and I assure you as head of the family that I will remind him of that. I hope we can put this matter behind us as a youthful mistake. "

Abbas finished his part. He had presented things in such a way as to allow Beketaten to end the relationship without any effort on her part and proceed as nothing had happened. He wasn't sure just how deep were Beketaten 's feelings for his son and didn't trust Naser's judgement on the matter.

To my Esteemed Counterpart,

Our nations have different cultures and values, and do not align each other in many respects. Those differences are of course reflected in the relations our two governments have.

Euirasia seeks integration into various regional and continental organizations and while we do not understand that approach it, we understand that is the prerogative of the government to decide such things. Just as we understand that in these difficult and troubled times for your country the government is well within its right to take appropriate action to stabilize the country.

The Euirasian government has of course many friends aboard that can help. However, should the Euirasian government want for any reason our assistance in stabilizing the situation, I would like to let you know that the Tamoran government is willing to help to the best of its ability.

Respectfully yours,

Factbooks and Maps / The MidAranye region factbook and discussion
« on: August 18, 2019, 08:18:20 PM »
Since this involves multiple players, please feel free to tell me if I miss something, want something added or removed (because you don’t agree with it etc).

The always changing (as nations come and go) map of MidAranye. Not all nations that appear on this map are part of MidAranye. The hopefully up to date list is here.

Geography: The region is not is not strictly and clearly defined, and it comprised roughly the “middle” of the Cotf Aranye continent. At present there are 9 countries which are part of the MidAranye region (but players are free to add their country to the region, as I said, it doesn’t have clear borders yet). I have a list of nations that “officially” belong to the MidAranye region and I try to keep it updated. Please note that for cultural reasons Abydos is added to the region but Rodina is not part of MidAranye. I haven't considered adding Libertais and Juyipia because they are inactive.

Geopolitics: Royal Selecuid, Clysperis  and Tamora often mention MidAranye in their speeches and news so to some extent that could be considered the core of what the geo political Midaranye would be. Please note that doesn’t necessary mean all these nation get along perfectly with each other. These nations also tend to criticize “liberal values”, the “international order in Mundus” etc.

International organizations: Royal Seleucid, Clysperis and Tamora are part of OPEN (the Mundus equivalent of OPEC). OPEN has its HQ in Royal Seleucid. Aside from this, the nations of the region tend to not be part of international organizations (it depends on the nation but for example Tamora and Pramoria is not part of any) and tend to avoid signing international treaties (ex: Tamora ) of any kind. Again, each nation has its own particularities in this, but that is the overall picture. Altromine for example has signed MCUR.

Sanctions against MidAranye countries: because Tamora allows for chattel slavery under its laws, a lot of Mundus nations have sanctioned it.

Particularities:

-the region has a somewhat Middle Eastern feel (Tamora, Abydos, Royal Seleucid,Clysperis, Pramoria and  Altromine) but nations like  Safraen don’t. In Tamora+Pramoria (not mandated by law) and Abydos (mandatory for women regardless of citizenship) the hijab is widely used. Islam and Manism (which is an offsot from Islam) are the main religions of the region and make up about 55% of the religious  landscape. Clysperis is a continuation of ancient Egypt and still uses the religion of Ancient Egypt as does Altromine.
-governments here tend to be either absolute monarchies (Tamora, Royal Seleucid, Clysperis, Abydos, Pramoria).
-the region has a history of human rights abuses: Royal Seleucid (attempt at genocide against the Helusian religious minority in the country), , Tamora (chattel slavery), Clysperis (brutal executions of those convicted of serious crimes).
-Polygamy is quite common (it is legal in Tamora, Royal Seleucid, Abydos).
-The nations tend to be poorer than the average Mundus nation but rich in resources. Examples: oil and gas: Royal Seleucid, Clysperis, Altromine, Tamora, Pramoria. See here.
- Slavery has a long history and chattel slavery is still practiced in Tamora and Waddan while indentured servitude is legal in Royal Seleucid, Pramoria. There is speculation that Clysperis might also introduce it.

Population of the region: around 600 million people (at the time I am writing this). That might change as players come and go. I try to keep an updated list here.

Languages: the region is very diverse (like all of Mundus really) yet Parthian (PL: Persian)  is the most used language, with around 415 million speaking Parthian (around 70% of the region's population). Here is an incomplete list of the number of Parthian speakers in the region:

Religionhere is breakdown of religions. Please note that Manism has a lot of elements borrowed from Islam.

Spoiler:  notable nations that were part of MidAranye • show

Slava Lavosk was a MidAranye  country that was heavily sanctioned by the international community because of its treatment of the Tamoran minority in the country and for revealing to the world that they had nuclear weapons. Tamora and Slava Lavosk were at one time close to war. The country is no longer on the map.

Vignettes / A Seleucid princess at the Tamoran court

Djerb (Empire of Tamora), Imperial Palace, women’s section of the palace

The Tamoran Imperial palace, the seat of government of Tamora

Princess Thekla was having a hard time adjusting to her new life in the Tamoran Imperial Palace. There were things that Tamora and Royal Seleucid had in common, like language. Tamorans like most Seleucid citizens spoke Parthian and although, she was a Soter and Seleucid was her native tongue she nevertheless understood and spoke Parthian well. She was also used to the idea of guardian and knew that as a woman there were certain expectations of her in regards to men and family. Yet despite that, she still didn't fit in at court. First, it found it off that the palace was basically split in two with one half women only and the other being mixed. As long as she stood in the women side of the palace, she would not have to wear the hijab. Another thing she found odd was that wherever she went people would immediately stand up and bow. According to Tamoran customs as First Wife of the Crown Prince she was second in rank to only the First wife of the emperor, in this case Alya Safavid. And the other women at the court showed her respect all the time, no exceptions.

And yet, it was perfectly clear that nobody at court liked her. Not Alya, not any of the women who although extremely polite and respectful were always quick to leave when she wanted to speak to them. And certainly her future husband didn't like her. He had managed to spend less than a couple of hours in the two weeks he spent in Royal Seleucid and avoided all but the minimum of contact with her while there. Now that she was in Djeb (ooc: the capital of Tamora) she saw him even less than that and she did not dare to confront him. The whole idea that her future husband showed so little interest in her was something that depressed her.

She felt trapped in the Imperial palace with people she did not know, rules she was not aware of and with people whom although not hostile did not show her any warmth.

TO: Finance minister of the Theocracy of Kaitaine, Lord Yann Bryant
FROM: Vice Governor of the Tamoran Central Bank, His Royal Highness Naser Safavid

I would first like to congratulate you on behalf of the Tamoran Empire on being named finance minister of the Theocracy of Kaitaine. As vice Governor of the Tamoran Central Bank I hope there will be as many opportunities as possible for future cooperation between our nations.
Secondly, I am writing to you following the recent reports regarding the fact the Theocracy is looking to establish its own currency. Since the currency of the Tamoran Empire is used by two countries already, Tamora and Clysperis, both of which have recognized the Theocracy as the legitimate government of Kaitaine, I would like to propose a way for you to achieve that goal. I have attached to the email a document detailing our proposal.
I look forward to your reply and wish you a productive term as finance minister.

Respectfully yours,
Naser Safavid
Vice Governor of the Tamoran Central Bank

Annex 1: Proposal regarding the establishment of a currency for the Theocracy of Kaitaine

The Tamoran central bank would like to propose the following the Theocracy of Kaitaine:

-The Tamoran Central Bank would issue banknotes for the Theocracy of Kaitaine, the banknotes would have the design, denomination and designation (ooc: lira, pound, dollar whatever) of the Theocracy choosing which will be provided by the Theocracy.
-These banknotes would be backed by the Tamoran dinar and have a fixed exchange rate to the Tamoran Dinar.
-The Theocracy would purchase the amount of currency from Tamora at the market price (ooc: for example exchange UC currency for Tamoran dinar as the official international exchange rate.).
-The costs associated with printing the banknotes will be supported by the Tamoran Central Bank as a sign of good faith.
-The Theocracy can redeem the banknotes at any time and will be exchanged with the Tamoran Dinar.

The press room

Like any international event, the press all over Mundus except Slava Lavosk, Soviet Kaitaine and Rokkenjima were welcomed to attend and report the event.  They were also allowed to ask questions to the speakers at the event. Since the Theocracy was recognized as the legitimate government of Kaitaine they could also apply for accreditation but we're required to provide confirmation from the Theocracy embassy in Djerb. The extra precaution and inconvenience for the press of the Theocracy was explained by the organizers that is was due the particular situation of the Theocracy. Most of its members had citizenship of other countries and the organizers wanted to avoid an embarrassing situation where anyone could claim to represent the Theocracy's press.

Ooc: here you can post questions for the speakers. Should you want to post questions but your country wasn't invited or feel that your country wouldn't have sent a press representative, ask Dave if you can say you are a journalist from an NPC country  ( ex Safraen since it's in Midaranye) and ask away. Please, when asking the question also provide the minimum of info: full name, press organization and country.

Inside the Welt Elysium Annex, there was a large auditorium where the guests could see on the large screens the speakers. The Tamoran and Attican (ooc: a component kingdom of Tamora where Elysium is located) flags were present everywhere as were the flags of Royal Seleucid and the Kingdom of Clysperis. Tamorans were always careful about foreign flags but in this case and even more so when the Emperor would be in attendance but Clysperis and Royal Seleucid were not only two kingdoms that were part of MidAranye they also two nations that were close to Tamora and by placing the two foreign flags at the event they wanted to send a discrete message to the two countries and the word that Djerb considers those two nations close friends.

Auditorium of Welt Elysium Annex

Spoiler:  the logo of EEF was featured prominently • show

The host, Ayatollah and Professor Azad Arak, is a very popular figure in Tamora. He is often invited at TINS shows to give his opinion on foreign policy and events. Behind him, the ever present Tamon flag.

Once Ayatollah Azad Arak reached the stage, some those in attendance applauded to which he answered:

“Thank you so much ladies and gentlemen. I am honored and pleased to see that so many of you watch TINS.

It is my great pleasure to be your host for this event, a first of this kind in the region and the first of many I hope. I am absolutely pleased to see such a large crowd in attendance and we will do our best to make it worth your time. God willing, this will be an event that not only will provide you with new information but will also make you ponder what to do with it for many weeks to come. Before I let the speakers begin, I would like to make just a couple of administrative announcements. First, if everything went well all of our guest should have received a copy of the itinerary. Second, there are several prayer rooms in the building and we will take regular breaks in order to allow you to honor God in the proper way. Thirdly, though we do not approve of alcohol, not all of our guests share this opinion so we do have alcoholic drinks available but I respectfully ask you to drink only in the designated rooms. There are the ones with opaque glass so that any children in attendance don’t see you drinking.

With that out of the way, I have just a couple of more announcements to make. First, the paintings you see on the walls are originals pieces of our great artist Dorri Kaviani, as well as foreign ones including ones from Royal Seleucid, the Kingdom of Clysperis and the Theocracy of Kaitaine. Some of these pieces come from the private collections of the Kadyrov and Dabiri families. I would personally like to thank both of them for making them available for your guests to see and admire. Also lady Dorri Kaviani is with us today so if you can give her a big round of applause that would be great. Thank you for coming here today, your paintings are an inspiration to us and your talent as well the message you promote gives us more reasons to be proud that were Tamorans.

With that aside, it is an honor to introduce our first speaker His Royal Highness Prince Naser Safavid.

Spoiler:  the facilities and decorations • show

The staff were ready to receive the guests and attend to them.

Several prayer rooms were available so that guests can pray in peace. On display is the Book of Mani.

People are free to drink alcohol in the designated areas, behind the opaque glass so that minors don’t see them.

There were quite a few art prices featured at EEF for the enjoyment of the guests. Several pieces were by one of the most famous Tamoran contemporary artists Dorri Kaviani.

At least one of the pieces on display was by a Theocracy painter. The piece was bought by Musaevna Kadyrov as the Djerb religious exhibition and brought at EEF for the viewing pleasure of the attendees.

Itinerary of the event:
1.   Risks and opportunities of investing in Midaranye.
2.   A culture of savings: the example of MidAranye.
3.   Elysium: what it is and what its potential impact is for Tamora and the whole MidAranye region.
4.   Special guests/foreign speakers.

OOC: This is where players can post speeches/lectures about economics. While the schedule has an order of topics that is only for IC reference, feel free to post anytime you want on any subject (that is related to economics in some way) . Also, unless otherwise stated, it will be assumed that your character allows for questions from the public/press.

The Elysium Economic Forum (EEF)

In 2018 the Conglomerate and the Empire of Tamora signed a contract where the Conglomerate would be given a one hundred year lease over an area of approx. 200 sq miles of Tamoran land. That marked the beginning of the city of Elysium.  As the Conglomerate owned and operated city began to take shape, Tamoran businesses, mostly large ones, began incorporating there taking advantage of the contract that allowed them to become Conglomerate companies. The Elysium incorporated Tamoran businesses began to take advantage of the opportunity to expand aboard and gradually began to invest outside the borders of the Empire of Tamora. Some of these businesses (of which Polakis Energy was the largest) banded together with Tamoran religious NGOs and formed the Tamoran Economic Association for MidAranye (TEAM) with the stated mission of presenting to the world the real Midaranye and attempting to foster dialogue as well as improving the region by engaging business, political, academic, religious and other leaders of the MidAranye region and beyond in order to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.

Elysium Economic Forum (EEF) was the first such attempt by TEAM to get together some of the most prominent leaders (of all areas, from the political to business and religious) of the Midaranye region and beyond in order to dispel myths, build bridges, create business opportunities, consider new ideas relating to economics without ignoring geopolitics or religion.

TEAM sent invitations to all those that had embassies in Djerb (ooc: I mean all countries except for Slava Lavosk, Soviet Kaitaine and Rokkenjima; The Theocracy was of course invited, the Borlanders are not) inviting them to the event and informing them that the Imperial family, which in the Empire of Tamora meant the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, would be attending the event as well as top three richest people in the Empire along with dozens of Tamoran businesses owners and representatives of the Tamoran wealth funds.

Welt Elysium Annex would be the location in Elysium where the forum takes place.

Vignettes / A Tamoran prince in the Kingdom of Clysperis
« on: July 07, 2019, 01:49:13 PM »

Khemnen Palace and the Pyramids of Nafu dominated the skyline

Prince Naser had arrived Khemnen less than a week before and was beginning to become accustomed to the place or sort of. Sure the city was much smaller than Djerb but that was to be expected since Djerb was larger in population than countries like Vanora or Safraen. And Khemnen had a lot to offer in terms of architecture and a certain ancient feel that the city had despite the horrendous scars the Soviet occupation left all over the city. If rumors were true the authorities were considering a restoration of the most important landmarks that had been literally mutilated by the Soviets starting with the Sphinx but knowing Clysperis’ financial condition he doubted that was more than wishful thinking. There were also some downsides of course like the fact that he couldn’t understand a word the people were saying and their writing was a mess. Worse still few of the locals could speak Parthian.

Like most Safavids he hadn’t traveled much aboard, for them aboard meant going in the federated kingdoms of Tamora, going outside the Empire was a rare thing. So it was no surprise that many in Djerb interpreted his detachment to Clysperis as exile rather than actually doing something. It made sense in a way to see things like that, he had recently lost the competition for being named Crown Prince so sending him away made sense so as to not create issues with Jamshid, his brother. However, he did have a mandate from Abbas and that’s all he cared for now.

As he got to his room, he decided to spend time reading the news from TINS:

“Speculations over the amount Djerb will pay for Princess Thekla” was one headline.

“Overpaid” Naser said to himself “Why on Earth would Abbas pay 7.5 billion dinars/usd for the Seleucid Princess? Tamora doesn’t need those useless ships and Tamora is in a recession so tax revenues are dropping and with the Seleucid food crisis, Tamora also suspended sales tax on food which means a further cut in revenues.” Naser had nothing against the Seleucid or the Soter but did not share his father’s enthusiasm for them.

Crown Prince Jamshid Safavid to go on vacation in Royal Seleucid at the Royal Lake Palace  was another headline

Naser chuckled as he read that one. He knew how much Jamshid disliked going aboard and how passionate he was about his faith. He didn’t even like Muslims. To have him marry a polytheist and having to go aboard to spend time with her must be pain for him thought Naser. And unlike Abbas, Jamshid didn’t like the Seleucid at all so Princess Thekla would have a hard time to change his mind.  “Which serves him right” he thought.  After all if the Church hadn’t gotten involved he was sure Abbas would have named him Crown Prince. He knew that Jamshid wanted to join the Brotherhood of Tamora and become celibate until Abbas knocked some sense into him. His brother never wanted to be Emperor so that made him the best possible candidate for both their mother and the Church as they would be ones running the Empire in all but name.

Since TINS made several references to Pharaoh Bektaten social media account and he decided to check it out:

“OMG, what is that woman doing? She is purposely antagonizing foreign powers and foreign leaders. And she’s making accusations against the Morelander MoD without any evidence to back them up. She acts like our press.” Naser was genuinely shocked since the Tamoran government was always extremely reserved when making statements. Even when foreign nations hammered the country with sanctions they never retorted with more than generic statements that said nothing. Even with the Slavans, Abbas was always careful in public to preserve the dignity of the throne and not “appease the masses” as he often said. “No wonder that TINS and no doubt the Tamoran people liked her, she is speaking more like the press and the Church rather than a sovereign.” “The woman must be reined in or she will get the entire region in trouble. These foreign leaders all have ego the size of skyscrapers, personally insulting them makes them enemies for life and Mundus is full of monarchies so they stay in power for decades. What has she been learning in Rokkenjima?”

Naser wondered if Bektaten was truly committed to reforming her country, a term he personally disliked as it gave connotations that implied that political reforms were also on the table. “Grow the economy sounds better” he said to himself. His doubts were not related to her twitter account but to the fact that bureaucracies and interest groups tended to have a strong grip on governments gutting any attempts at reforms. “There is no way to know unless you put it to the test” he said to himself. Next week he will leave aside the boring part about harmonization of financial regulations between the two countries’ financial systems and go bold: suggest an immediate 25% cut in tariffs between the two nations. Tamora had little to worry about since its economy was large but Clysperis was small and their local businesses would feel threatened by such a move. “Let’s see how the Clisperi side reacts to that”. He figured he would get stonewalled by his counterparts and thus force their hand by asking a meeting with Bektaten herself. After all she agreed to lower the tariffs while in Djerb so it wasn’t like he was proposing something that was not discussed. Then he will know exactly where she stands. And to be fair he did look forward to see her again, he enjoyed her presence in the short time they saw each other in Djerb and was curious to see how she would change her demeanor now that the discussions would take place in her kingdom surrounded by an army of officials calling her “a living god”. Also, he would propose to the Clisperi delegation that Tamora invest a billion dinars/usd in their infrastructure assuming they could actually come up with some proposals of projects to be financed. He hoped that would make them more cooperative and if not then it was clear that there was no interest on their side for actually improving their economy.

After preparing his notes for the next meeting he decided to go out to the closest Manist temple in the city. His reason for going there were was not solely religious though that played a major part but also because he wanted to know more about Bektaten and  how people saw her and the Imams at the temple were the perfect advisers in that regard.

Addressed to :Her Royal Majesty Aisha Safavid

It has been ten years since YM has last honored us with your presence in the Empire and I believe that your decision to come out of isolation is the perfect opportunity to meet again and catch up on the affairs of our kingdoms.

I have seen that you have just recently celebrated your national holiday and praised Holy Alya for the role she played in defining Premoria as a nation and its people. Therefore I can't think of a better way to begin your visit than going together in pilgrimage to her Mausoleum near Djerb.

I do however suggest that  in order to avoid unnecessary discussion among the clergy and the press that you come without your family. I will of course be attending the event alone.
I look forward to your reply and to see YM again.

Respectfully yours,

Abbas Safavid
Emperor of Tamora
