The Messenger - Argemontese News

The messenger is Argemonto‘s biggest news company. Since the newspaper is state owned it represents the political mainstream of the nation. Its positions are mostly identical to those of the ruling party PDDS, however mild criticism is sometimes expressed.

COMMISSAR DELGATO ENDORSES RELIGIOUS RESTRICTIONS

During todays press conference in Rugaturo the government and especially Commissar of Foreign Affairs, Julia Delgato were asked about the governments opinion of the disputed religious restrictions law passed by Skopje’s government. Commissar Delgato answered personally: “The Director and I have discussed this matter thoroughly and decided that Argemonto will support the new legislation. We think that it is a legitimate instrument to fight religious extremism and delusion. Furthermore we suspect that most opposition and the outcry for sanctions is incited by religious authorities fearing to lose influence and power. Our stance is and has always been that religion is a private matter and has to be treated as such. Religious propaganda however is a different thing as well as religious indoctrination of minors. This behaviour poses a threat to our enlightened and democratic social order. Skopje’s parliament has acted wisely.”

While the government and communists mostly endorse Skopje’s fight against religious propaganda, Liberals see it as an infringement against human rights and Nationals talk about an immorality and the active destruction of religious culture and tradition. Some critics from the left warn that a restriction of religion might escalate into an ethnic conflict and that it should therefore only be applied really carefully

ECONOMIC CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCEMENTS

Commissar Sabeno and the Consortium announced that all workers in state owned companies will get a raise of 1,3%. Starting in February the raise means a total plus of of roughly 32 A per month. This might not seem like a lot but it represents the good shape Argemontese economy is in.

On another note the Consortium communicated that due to the all time high in Argemontese productivity the import of raw materials for the national chemical and metal industry will be drastically increased in 2021.

LOCAL: BUSINESS IN RUGATURO CONFISCATED, FORMER OWNER ARRESTED

A local producer of jewellery who is suspected of operating a larger business without a worker council was arrested today for further investigation. The workshop and retail were confiscated by the trade supervisory office and is temporarily run by the government. The TSO theory is that the suspect secretly had inofficial employees to evade the law. If he is actually sentenced the suspect might face 2-5 years in prison.

EXPLOSION AT CEVALO DAM: THOUSANDS WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

Today the famous dam in Proksi Cevalo was damaged by an explosion of unknown source. The police is still investigating in every direction. Terrorism seems to be a possibility. Normally the dam produces energy for about 54.000 people in and around Proksi Cevalo. The inhabitants are now without electricity until the national power grid is ready to compensate the net breakdown. The Peoples Electricity Agency announced this will be the case in around 2-5 days. Until then the region will be supported with fresh food and candles.
While the whole extent of destruction is not yet known experts assume the repairs might cost around 700 million A in total.

COMMUNISTS CRITICIZE EK

Communist leader Tilo Juveno criticized the EKs plan to increase imports of raw materials. "Argemontos goal must always be to achieve autarky from the capitalist world. We must invest in our own production of these goods instead of importing from the ideological enemy"

Commissar of Economic Affairs and Head of the Economic Consortium answered in a short public text message "As always the communists clinge to old outdated and economically unfitting concepts. As Argemonto does simply not have the possibility to become completely autark. For example our geography will never allow us to produce every agricultural good we need. As long as we are socialist and the world is not, we need to trade and most importantly we need to think competitive. In addition we will of course prefer ideologically close trade partners if possible and will try to develop socialist economy in developing countries who are willing to cooperate."

WHAT HAPPENED AT CEVALO DAM?

While electricity in the small town of Proksi Cevalo was restored the questions remains what happened in the first place. Soon after the incident the police investigated in the case. What they found out is shocking: The explosion was certainly not an accident. Several charges that did not detonate had to be defused. Together they would have had the power to destroy the whole dam. Luckily however only two of the 5 charges worked as planned and just the generators were destroyed, hence the black out.

Things became even more scary when today the police went to the house of a dam worker who had not shown up to work on the day of the incident. The man was found dead. If it was murder or suicide is not yet known, however what we know is that the man was indeed the person who planted the bombs. In his rooms the police found traces of explosives and the composition of the chemicals found there matched with those found in the remaining bombs on the dam. The man's motivation and possible co perpetrators are not yet known, however the police thinks the man must have had some kind of support since all bombs were made with sophisticated military grade material.

While terrorism was the first thing in mind, the police thinks it might have been sabotage. Which terrorist would decide to destroy a town of 12.000 inhabitants to achieve his goal? However the economic relevance of Proksi Cevalo is undeniable. It lies on Argemonto's biggest silver deposit. Who ever did this might want to harm Argemonto's economy. Since the attack failed and another one is not impossible the police ordered the local populace to not leave the town until investigations are concluded. In addition local police forces were increased.

CEFOFICISTO BAKTARO ARRESTED AFTER SUPPOSED ARMS DEAL

Baktaro at an event in November

Silvio Baktaro, CEO of ARMARGO was arrested by the police after an anonymous informer accused him of an illegal arms deal. The information was sent together with incriminating evidence.
Baktaro's position is now vacant until a verdict is passed. Together with their superior ten other officials of the state owned company were arrested.
In total around 3000 rifles, 500 explosives and 1200 pistols were sold to a yet unknown customer.

Director Benno ordered to stop all transactions of the company and to freeze all accounts until the investigations are concluded. While this case is especially grave it is
the third irregularity during the course of ten months in the Economic Consortium Benno also announced her party would bring a new anti corruption law on the way.

"The overall degree of corruption that has spread in numerous branches of our economy has become unbearable. Events like this one
harm the trust of the people in our system and it is therefore my duty to prevent them in the future. My party and I will draft a law to fight corruption as quickly as possible.
We plan to present it to parliament in a few weeks."

RELIGIOUS PROTESTS IN RUGATURO

Because of the current parliamentary debate on a new law regarding religions around 1200 members of different religions gathered in front of the peoples
chamber to protest. Some expressed their fear the situation might develop like in Kopsje.
A fear also held by people inside the parliament. Especially the Liberal Party and the National Awakening warn about the consequences of the law.
Liberals are mostly afraid about a loss of individual rights, nationals mention the "loss and even deliberate destruction of cultural identity.
PDDS and Reform Party defend their laws stating "It touches the rights of religious organisations not persons. Being religious or spiritiual remains
a right of the individual."

A decision on the bill is expected in a week.

PARLIAMENT PASSES NEW LEGISLATION ON RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS

A decision has been made. With a majority in both the Peoples Assembly and the KNaCK the rights of
religious organisations will be severely restricted by the start of march.

International ties and the exchange of funds between religious organisations will be banned.
Furthermore the presentation of religious symbols on buildings will no longer be allowed.
Every religious organisation will need to democratize its leading body inside Argemonto.
Religion becomes an entirely private matter. Prayers and events must be planned accordingly and take place
in closed rooms which may be rented from the government to usual prices. Religious organisations must finance
all expenses via donations of their members and need to be non profit.

The government expects a lot of resistance from a very small but loud margin of religious people.
Many however accept the new law but criticise the short timespan for organisations to restructure in order
to apply as a legally accepted religious organisation.

ECONOMIC CONSORTIUM TO DISSOLVE STATE MONOPOLY ON FOOD INDUSTRY

The State Council and Economic Consortium announced that the state owned food company Stanutrakav will slowly be dissolved
over the next months. A step that has long been part of the Reform Party agenda. Commissar of Economic Affairs Sabeno stated that
there is no longer a need for central organisation of food production since today most agricultural resources are imported and the various industrial branches of
Stanutrakav that still exist are self sufficient and can be run by worker councils. The exact division will be decided by the EC in the following
months however Commissar Sabeno promised that by the end of the year Stanutrakav will no longer exist.
Adam Mertillo will therefore be the last Cefoficisto of the company and retire at the age of 68.

BAKTARO CONFESSES: MULTIPLE OFFICERS ARRESTED, ONE DEAD

This morning the number of suspects in the Baktaro case increased by twelve. Ten lower rank army officers and a UNUMET official were arrested, one suspect commited suicide before he could be found by the police. Yesterday evening former Cefoficisto of ARMARGO, Silvio Baktaro confessed that he was part of a secret organisation of nationalist forces. He told the police the names of his suspected co conspirators. In addition he admitted that his organisation called "Fera Frataro" was responsible for the explosions that led to the partial destruction of Cevalo Dam.

The police stated further information is due to the investigation strategy not available. The illegaly sold weapons were not yet found.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Octavio Rugo announced that a new task force will be established for the further investigation.

Many opposition politicians already demand extensive investigations inside the military. Rugo declines stating that "There is no evidence of a large scale conspiracy and as long as there is none I will not suspect the brave men and women in our army!"

CULT OF HELUS TEMPLES CLOSED BY POLICE
« Reply #7 on: March 12, 2021, 09:34:44 PM »

CULT OF HELUS FAILS TO ADAPT TO NEW RELIGIOUS LAW: POLICE COMMENCES FORCEFUL SHUTDOWN OF TEMPLES

After several respites granted by the State Council the Cult of Helus now also failed its final inspection. Officials of the Commissariat of Internal Security and the Commissariat of Education and Culture noted severe violations of the new law in dozens of cases. Now the State Council decided to stop turning a blind eye. All Temples owned by or dedicated to the cult were shut today. 27 Cultists resisted and were arrested. Although a final decision on the fate of the Cult is to be made in court, many cultists already started to draw consequences. Many announced they would leave Argemonto. Some of them even talk of an "exile" somewhere else, preferably in East Moreland. Others already decided it is time for a new branch of the cult and see the new legislation as an opportunity for reformation. Law experts expect a lengthy and exhausting legal process.

HASSFURTIAN REFUGEES ENTER ARGEMONTO

Thousands of Hassfurtians Citizens followed the invitation of the State Council during the past few weeks. While a stronger influx was expected border guards were still happy to welcome every immigrant.  Most of them were brought to towns in the south of Vallo-Kaldra, which is already home to a Hassfurtian speaking minority. Olcereno, with its 54.000 inhabitants is the home of most of the immigrants. We spoke to one of them, Kathrin, a woman from the lowest Hassfurtian strata. We asked her what she thought about the time she has already spent in Argemonto and how she has felt compared to her life in Hassfurt
Quote
I am really grateful for this opportunity. As a person who never believed in Dualism life was hell for me in Hassfurt. The lack of equality cemented into the foundation of this society is horrifying. However it is astonishing how they manage to make so many people believe in this cruel system. I whish more would understand and follow the invitation of Argemonto.
While Kathrin is allowed to stay for as longs as she wants as longs as she works, she even plans to get her citizenship in around 6 months. For that she has to take two tests and manage a lot of paperwork. However she is confident that she will soon become a national.

CEVALO DAM FINALLY OPERATIONAL AGAIN

Today the by a terrorist attack massively damaged dam is again working as intended and running at full capacity to supply the inhabitants of the valley with electricity. The trial against 20 potential terrorists is still going on, as the case turned out to be more complicated than expected beforehand. What is known so far is that a radical anti socialist cell is behind the attack, which was in fact only one step in grand scheme to cripple Argemontese economy. Other planned attack could be prevented by joint operations of the police forces an the secret police. A sentence from the District's court is expected in a few months now. However most of the accused will probably appeal and we will see them again in the People's National Court shortly after.

KALDRESE POLICE DEMANDS SUPPORT FROM RUGATURO

Head of the Kaldrese Volkspolizei, Fritz Burger demanded that Argemonto sent police forces from the national contingent. He argumented that "It was the Argemontese governments decision to take in immigrants from the south. While I personally support this decision and I want to see Kaldrese autonomy protected, in this case I see it as necessary for Rugaturo to intervene. We do not have the necessary capacities"
According to the local government of Kaldra, Burger did not consult them before making this statement. As Kaldra's autonomy is especially protected it's internal and civilian matters are for them to decide.
Rugaturo answered in a brief statement through the governments press office "While we see Mr. Burger's struggle and would be willing to help, we will of course under no circumstances intervene without being asked for help by the Kaldrese government"
It remains questionable if this scenario is realistic or if Kaldra will seek a different approach to manage immigrants.
