Title: Jewel of the Desert
Post by: DaveIronside on April 25, 2019, 08:36:27 AM
Danyaal felt an arm creep around his shoulders and felt himself jump a little. It was his cousin, King Heydar, a friendly smile on his face. "Now Danyaal you know how I'm sending you to the airport to welcome the guests and put them on the helicopters right?" Danyaal nodded nervously, "And this year I expect you not to insult any of them." The King laughed a little and Danyaal smiled uneasily before a sudden pain flowed through his testicles as Heydar grabbed his balls. "Now if you repeat it this year I'm going to chop these off and feed them to the crows." he let go and stared in Danyaal's eyes, "Understand me."

"Yes Your Majesty" he said catching his breath. He remembered the beating given to him last year when he accidently insulted the Pope by not giving him a generous enough gift. King Akakois had beaten him with a belt in full view of the guests, the red scar on his back a reminder of the moment.

"Excellent" The King said as he made his way up to the walls that surrounded the Palace of the Sands leaving Danyaal to head off to the opposite side of the Palace where the Royal's helicopter awaited. As it lifted off Heydar sat down on the sofa on the viewing platform enjoying the view of the festival. To the North were the tents providing accomodation, those close to the Palace were huge and belonged to many nobles or rich businessman, the further back you went the smaller you got until you would have found yourself in a large communal tent. To the East were the non-jewellers tents, those providing food, drink, items those camping would need and even entertainment. A tent for watching dancing, another for music and various ones with a whole host of different uses. The vast majority of the festival site though was dominated by the tents of traders involved in jewellrey. Those selling precious metals, diamonds and gem stones in their raw form alongside those who had turned them into beautiful works of art. Even here prestige was demonstrated by size, those who sold goods to the nobility sat just a hundred meters away from the Palace, they had huge tents, they'd brought with them not just their stock but also workshops shop people wish custom made products, many also brought models to give shows of their goods and most even had facilities to entertain and provide hospitality to their potential cutsomers. At the very back the new businesses and those with less reputation and cheaper products resided, most of them would live and sleep in their small tents as well as sell from small tables.

"Your Majesty will need a new watch, new wife, new watch yes?" a voice called from below, it was Ghulam Raif a famed watch maker who had supplied the royal family for 40 years.

"You come and interupt my morning breakfast" The King said with a shake of his head but a smile. "You come and insult me, I will expect a big discount"

"ON top of what I already give the royal family? I have children to feed" Raif protested.

"Ghulam your children are forty years old" Heydar laughed. "I shall maybe stop by and see the impact of the insult to your prices." The two smiled as Ghulam bowed theatrically and backed away returning to his tent. It was the way things were done in Royal Seleucid, unless it was a formal store prices were negotiable and infact it was expected for markets such as this for haggling to take place it was after all part of the enjoyment of the festival having a laugh and joke with friends. The King had a leisurely breakfast and then made his way inside just as the stores began opening for the day, the noise of peddlers trying to attract business filling the air as music from the East drifting into the Palace. In the centre of the Palace was a lush green garden, very out of place in the desert, it had a bright multi-coloured canopy above it, the Kings own "Tent" cushions sat on the floor around low tables which servents had filled with food and drink of all kinds and it would be here that the King would greet any visiting dignitries and entertain his guests.

The plane carrying Emperor Abbas (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg6781#msg6781) and his First Wife Alya (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg6796#msg6796) had left Djerb less than half an hour ago. It was for the first time the couple were visiting a foreign country together. While that might be strange for royal families of other countries, it was the norm in Tamora where the Emperor rarely if ever went outside the borders of his empire. So having both of them going abroad was rarer still. But this was just any foreign country they were going to, it was Royal Seleucid and the two kingdoms had developed an ever closer relationship. It was the product of both a shared history and culture ( Parthian was the second most spoken language in RS while Seleucid was the second most spoken language in Tamora) and also of close personal relations between the monarchs. The two kingdoms were absolute monarchies and if the HoSs did not get along then state relations could easily breakdown and could stay that way for a whole generation. Abbas had a good relationship with the late King Akakios, they saw eye to eye on many things  though they did disagree on a lot of others like what Abbas, and Manists  in general, saw as too much openness and trust of foreigners with the Lodjan affair being a prime example. There were also religious differences that could not be ignored; the RS had a more liberal attitude, something that Abbas was not too fond of.

Now it was a different time, RS had a new King and seemed to go through a restructuring of its institutions with a more focus on the military. In Tamora, a country where institutional change was seen not just as risky or reckless but close to haram (sinful) since it implied a change to the organizational government structures left behind the Prophet Mani, these changes were viewed with suspicion but none had expressed any concerns to their RS counterparts. Initial signs from King Heydar looked good and it seemed that he was determined to continue the good relationship his father had with Tamora. Abbas by coming to RS wanted to make sure the new monarch understood that Tamora was also fully committed. Furthermore, Abbas, despite opposition from his family, had set in motion a plan to get the two families closer, the preparations started when King Akakios was still on the throne and they continued even though he had passed away.

- Abbas, sorry to interrupt but we need to review the schedule for the trip. Time is short and prayer time will soon begin.
- Fine, Alya. Let's begin.
- I have made arrangements for us to visit your domain in Deh Kord (ooc: a region of RS) as Shiekh (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg11376#msg11376). Since it is your first visit there and I have arranged to meet the local nobility. It will be a first step to see what their expectations and needs are. My first impression is that they expect for you to own the title and forget about it so I guess you could say they have no expectations.
- I have no intention to forget about the title but on the other hand I need a physical presence there if I am to make an impact. So that will be something to think about. Despite the reports I read I am not exactly sure I understand how much authority these titles carry in RS. They are not like ours that is certain.
- No, though they are not purely ceremonial, I can confirm they are nowhere near that level of authority as the ones we have.
- What's next?
- A visit and a meeting with the head Ayatollah of RS. They are both anxious and glad to have you visit the local Manist community. We will also have a short meeting with the head of the local government and enquire about the status of the great temple announced (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg9115#msg9115) by the late king Akakios. They have promised that a small section would be dedicated to our faith so showing interest is something we must do. That should be all I think.

A few hours later, the plane had reached its destination and  the Imperial couple was going down the stairs of their plane and were ready to meet the hosts. Alya was dressed in the usual abaya dress and hijab (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0918/7216/products/ready-for-website7_be767a59-ea75-4dac-97d8-ea5d7dfbdc52_1024x1024.jpg?v=1488219009), she also made sure to wear gloves in case foreign dignitaries wanted to shake hands with her. It was considered improper in Manist culture to have the opposite sexes touch each other in public unless married , wearing gloves was a way to get around that since the skin never touched. Abbas on the other hand was dressed in the official white uniform (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/84/Mohammad-reza-shah.jpg) he used for special occasions. Both of them wore the golden watches that king Akakios had gifted (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=852.msg6813#msg6813) them when during his honeymoon to Tamora. It was unlikely that anyone in RS would notice since King Akakios was no more and  his forth wide Oksana has been banished for her treacherous actions.

Back home in Tamora

Before Abbas had left Tamora he held a public ceremony where he delegated the responsibility of ruling the Empire to his son Jamshid . a tradition that went back centuries. And those weren’t the only preparations that we're done. As a Shiekh of Deh Kord (of RS), Abbas was allowed to send six craftsmen (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg11830#msg11830) to the festival in RS so he had asked each of his kings to propose one from their kingdoms. Each Tamoran kingdom had its own particular culture which was preserved to a great extent despite being part of the Empire for centuries in most cases. Sending a craftsman from each of the six different federated kingdoms was a way to show the diversity of culture that Tamora enjoyed.

On the outskirts of Djerb, in the vast estate that belonged to Kadyrov family, Musaevna Kadyrov (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg8447#msg8447) was also preparing to leave for the Jewell Festival. Her reasons for attending the festival were not limited to buying jewelry though she did enjoy that but also to use the opportunity to maybe build some connections with foreign interests. Abbas especially and even Alya to some extent were unapproachable by anyone not up the top of the ladder, Musaevna on the other hand despite her huge wealth and influence was more easily approachable. She also left a message to  Alisha McRae (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=66.msg9028#msg9028) inviting her to attend the festival in RS and offering to pay all the expenses for the trip. She figured that worst case scenario she would get to chat and do some shopping with her, best case scenario she might understand more about how the Bene Gesserit.

Musaevna Kadyrov would not be on the same plane as the Imperial family and thus would not be greeted by local dignitaries. However, her trip to Royal Selecuid would be anything but modest. Waiting for her in Djerb international airport was her private plane , Sukhoi Superjet 100, and at least two dozen security guards and personal staff that will be attending her every need while in RS. Furthermore, while the local dignitaries would not be present in Ipsus, the Tamoran ambassador to RS would be there to greet her on her arrival to the airport, a further sign of just how influential she was with the Safavid Imperial family.

The Festival presented a rather exciting oppurtunity for the Bene Gesserit, they could turn up as private individuals and rub shoulders with those of significance from around the world, it was also rather positive that Alicia McRae (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=66.msg9028#msg9028) had seemingly made some kind of impression with the Tamorans and had recieved a personal invite from Musaevna Kadyrov. As Alicia was just out of Chapterhouse it wasn't really fitting for her to travel alone and so she had tagged along with Simon Fremen (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=66.msg365#msg365) the future Duke of Secundis along with Simon's son Achilles (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=66.msg367#msg367) and a Truthsayer from the well connected Fava family called Rita (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=66.30). The four had arrived the day before and seeing as they were not representatives of any particular nation Simon had taken to hiring them a private helicopter to take them out to the site the morning the festival began. "You should have brought Heidi" Simon said to his son as they overflew the sight, "She'd have loved this, all the fancy clothing, probably have cost you a small fortune but now you're not hiding as a poor medical student." Before the faith had "come out" Achilles had been masquerading as a trainee doctor in East Moreland, he'd since transfered to Cantabria and was doing well. He was no longer acting the part of a poor overseas student living with his girlfriend, Heidi in fact being his Honored Matres concubine but he was yet to have any children with her.

"Oh that would have looked fantastic wouldn't it father" Achilies moaned to his father, "I turn up at some international event with a woman on my arm that many nations consider a whore."

Simon slapped his son around the side of the head lightly but only half playfully. "Do not disrespect her" he said, "To be granted an Honored Matres is a great honour son and your fortunate to have a beautiful one who is devoted to you yet you spend all your time with your head in the books rather than making me a grandfather." It was a common discussion and one that made Alicia and Rita in the rear of the helicopter feel a little awkward. Soon the aircraft touched down and as the helicopter rotars slowed down and the engines fell quiet Simon turned so he could speak to his son and the two in the rear seats at the same time. "I want us to enjoy this event, I've read that its rather exciting and I'm sure the wife has also heard about it and will no doubt skin me alive if I don't bring her something back. Remember though we're here as representatives of the Bene Gesserit even if we're not here as Heads of State or their official representatives. Be polite, embrace the local culture and above all be safe." They exited the aircraft and made their way towards the Palace.

"Alicia remember to keep your eyes and ears open." Rita said as she hugged the young Missionara, the two got on well and Rita would be looking after the two Fremen gentleman while Alicia got a more special welcome. As the trio walked away they left the blue tunic clad Alicia waiting for the arrival of  Musaevna Kadyrov at the Festival grounds helipad. She took her notebook out and began sketching some of the scene as she waited.

Meanwhile Simon, Achilles and Rita were heading towards the festival grounds in search of some breakfast. Finding a tent that looked, and more importantly smelt inviting the three sat down at a table and eagerly awaited a chance to eat.

Albrecht had stepped of the airship with sunglasses on in his deliberately Chosen white parade uniform. With a wicked grind the airships speakers where still blasting a song from a new video game that Orion loved (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi7WH7_NO9I) with a very fitting set of lyrics, all while Albrecht slowly made his way down. He found his clothing choice especially fitting once he spotted the Tamoran emperor in similar fashion, this likely wasn't going to be a trip down pleasure lane.

He had a couple of thought running through his head, the first being that he would prefer the kiddy birthday party in the commonwealth over being here, the others where about Heydar. From Albrecht's perspective, there where two ways of looking at the new king.

Option one that Albrecht saw was that Heydar actually believed the nonsense he was spewing about Traditions and values, then it was already wasted time he spent here.

Option two was that Heydar, and his late brother, where stuck in a power struggle that made it necessary to appeal to forces behind the scene. In that scenario Albrecht could position himself as an potential ally to bring subtle change and smarter play in. At least from his point of view, reintroducing slavery was anything but a smart play. Some change of wording, some wisely placed misinformation, and people would have called Heydar progressive all over the world. What a waste.

Finally reaching the end of the Gangway, the Regents lips formed a fiendish grin, spotting a certain seleucid royal at the airport, making a beeline towards Danyal:

"How's my favorite Puppy doing?" Albrecht said with a wide wolfish expression: "You got to play watchdog for the arrivals Danyal? I so hope you will join us at the festival later. Did you find a wive yet?"

While making it very clear to Danyal he had glanced down said one's backside, Albrecht chuckled: "If you want to avoid any Beatings this Year, maybe you should accompany me. I'm sure to make a point about how helpful you have been."

Musaevna Kadyrov arrived from the Ipsus airport by car. She was accompanied by her personal assistant Zara (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg11937#msg11937), two security guards and the driver. Royal Seleucid was a safe country for Tamorans but regardless of that, security was something she needed in case she might want to keep away from her people that might prove “too friendly”.

Zara’s task was to bring Alisha to the car which she deed dutifully. As Rita reached the helipad, she greeted Alisha in the most formal manner possible despite being twice Alisha’s age and asked:

“Ms. Alisha McRae?  My name is Zara, am the personal assistant of Lady Kadyrov. She is expecting you.” She said inviting Alisha to go the short distance to Musaevna’s car. Once they reached their destination, one of the security guards waiting outside opened the door and Musaevna got out of the car. She was dressed in the typical Tamoran fashion for women (abaya and hijab):

“Hello, Alisha. I am so glad you could come. Sorry for bringing you here and not coming myself but she weather is especially hot today and I wanted to enjoy the car’s air conditioning as much as possible.” She said smiling.

“How have you been, Alisha?” she said as she began walking towards the tents followed closely by her small entourage of guards and Zara. “Still studying Biomedical Engineering? That sounds overly complicated if you ask me. “

“For my part” Musaevna continued after giving Alisha a chance to reply “I’ve been busier with work. There is always something happening in Djerb to keep you occupied. And I have to say that lately among other things, the Bene Gesserit have kept me a bit busy” she said jokingly.” I had the pleasure of meeting the Theocracy’s ambassador HG Atreides “ she explained “and the Theocracy also had a presence at the Djerb religious art exhibition” she pauses “ I almost forgot” as she said that Zara immediately handed Musaevna two small packages: “I got you something. The first is a copy of the book of Mani. It’s a special edition where each chapter is written in one of the official languages of Tamora, that’s six languages each with its own alphabet. There are very few people in the whole of Tamora that can read all the chapters. I can read those written in Parthian and Seleucid. Zara here can also read those in Arabic but all six? Hard to achieve. They are also signed by each of the Grand Ayatollahs of the kingdoms of Tamora so it’s a rare piece.”

“The second” she said pointing to the small rapped box “ contains a small amount of spice. I figured that you might not be so enthusiastic about the book and thought I should go for something that all Bene Gesserit appreciate. Don’t ask me where I got that spice. Let that be a mystery”. Not wanting to share that she got it from the previous meetings with the BG and never used it.

As they walked through the tents looking around Musaevna asked Alisha if there is something particular that she’s interested in so that they can go there. Musaevna was quick to spot one of the Tamoran merchants taking part in the festival by the distinctive joint Tamoran/Akkar flags.

“Ah, let me show you something. Have you tried Mehndi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehndi)? It’s popular in Akkar (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=844.msg11603#msg11603), one of our kingdoms, and to tell you the truth I have no idea if the Seleucid also have it, I heard a rumor that maybe Socram has it but I have no idea if that’s true. Here let me show you.” She said as she approached the section where the Tamoran craftsmen from Akkar had their shop. Unsurprisingly, the vendors there immediately recognized Musaevna and bowed. She asked them to show Alisha the Mehndi and two of the women came and showed her their hands which were decorated. They also provided her with various catalogs of different patterns.

“You want to try one? Or are you more into jewelry? “

Princess Næxyn xy Thælyrn, the great aunt of Empress Ælirn herself, had spent much of the several hour flight from Xæth to Royal Seleucid asleep in her the cabin of her private plane. She was looking forward to the trip; she always enjoyed getting out of the country, and it was something she didn't do nearly as much as she should. And, like any good and proper Xæthoon woman she did enjoy jewelry; perhaps she could also pick up some pieces for her family as well. But, most importantly, it gave her a chance to rub shoulders with the elite of Midaranye, an area whose nations Ælirn was loathe to open official connections with for various reasons. The Princess was here on a private visit though as Ælirn worried that the work she was going to put into relations with the Iwi would be wasted if Xæth sent an official delegation to Royal Seleucid. And, as a bonus, Næxyn also held no real ill-will against the Tamorans who would be rather prominent guests at this year's festival. All in all, she had rather high hopes for the trip.

The Princess was eventually woken by a gentle prodding on her shoulder and a quiet whisper in her ear, and her eyes flung open and she bolted upright as her hand grasped at her hip for a weapon that wasn't there. But then the face of the man she was looking at came into focus and her sleep-clouded mind remembered where she was, and she sighed. It was her husband leaning on the bed and as she looked around she saw her other husband standing in the doorway, both of them looking at her rather concernedly.

"All you all right?" asked Prince Zadyr, the first of her husbands, from his place in the doorway.

Næxyn nodded and her third husband, Aataxaris Adara, backed away. "I'm sorry," he said quickly.

"No, no, no. It's alright. We're almost there, then?" she asked, to which the pair of her husbands nodded, "Good, good. Now... Where's my leg?"

She didn't really need to look around, as in a short moment Aataxaris picked the prosthetic leg up from where it was lying against the bed. She quickly took it and began putting it back on. Chatting with her husbands as she did so. She had contemplated only bringing along a single husband, but had decided against it in the end. The Seleucids had their culture and the Xæthoons had theirs; she wouldn't begrudge them their wives if they didn't begrudge her her husbands. She'd also thought about wearing something the Seleucids might find more 'appropriate', but decided against it for much the same reason. So her garments, which were of the finest embroidered silk, fully showed her midriff as well as her bare arms which also showed off the many scars dotting her body. They were mostly across the left side of her body, the same side which had her prosthetic leg and whose hand was missing its pinky and ringfinger. Næxyn also quickly made sure she was in presentable condition, making certain that her silver hair was firmly in its braid with no stray hairs and that all of the numerous pieces of jewelry she was wearing was askew.

Her husbands were both likewise immaculately dressed, although being men they wore no jewelry aside from Aataraxis' diamond earrings. And as Næxyn exited the plane, making her way down the stairs with the help of her thick, wooden cane, she smiled in the Seleucid heat. Today would be a good day, she could feel it.

Melanie Bell (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=49.msg972#msg972) sighed a little as she walked through the festival grounds, how had she let herself get talked into this? She was mid job up north in Abydos but what she was coming up against there as she continued investigating had prompted her to turn her attention to Midaranye for potential new leads. The gusty breeze blew at her white t-shirt as she continued to look around. She was a Countess and normally would steer the widest possible berth around this sort of thing but the devil was in the detail as they said and there were aspects to this festival that she found appealing, it did in some respects resemble an antiques fair and that was something Melanie couldn't really resist.

"What do you think?" Melanie asked looking at her friend and colleague Rosalie McLean (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=49.msg4763#msg4763) who'd accompanied Melanie to the festival.
"Well plenty of variety." Rosalie said "Plenty of people and significant people at that, might find what we're looking for." Melanie smiled and glanced not for the first time at the shoulder bag she had with her, inside it were all her notes so far in terms of Pharoah Amentuankh of Abydos - a figure from around 550 BC, Melanie was presently trying to unravel the secret or perhaps surprise was a better word, of the man's tomb.
"Let's hope." Melanie said
"By the way thanks for letting my sisters come along." Rosalie said, looking to where her two sisters were perusing a nearby tent Myrda McLean (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=49.msg4770#msg4770) was her younger sister while Cynthia (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=49.msg4181#msg4181) was Rosalie's older sister.
"Don't mention it." Melanie said "I know you don't get to see them that much. So how about we find somewhere where we can get something to eat and then take a closer look around?"
"Sounds like a plan to me." Rosalie said

Volos, capital of the federated kingdom of West Seleucid (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=844.msg11505#msg11505), Empire of Tamora

Thanasis Polakis (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg10954#msg10954) was just getting out of his Obsidian limousine and walking towards his private jet. He has just arrived from Zimalia a day before and he was now leaving again, this time for Royal Seleucid. As he got to his plane, he was greeted by his assistant:

“Welcome, Mr. Polakis. I hope everything is to your liking. Please tell me if there’s anything I can get you.”
“Everything is ok, thank you Sofia. The usual will be fine.”

Spoiler:  Polakis’s private jet • show

Sofia waiting to greet Polakis. His jet was nothing compared to Musaevna’s Sukhoi Superjet 100.

The usual in this case meant a glass of his favorite wine which Sofia was quick to bring it to him.

“Sofia, tell me do we have an answer from the Merinan Free State (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=988.msg11793#msg11793)?”
“None, sir. I have tried multiple times but without any success. I will keep trying until I get an answer. They have to get tired of me calling them at some point.”
“Pity… I was really looking forward to meeting them. I think there’s a lot of potential there for business.”

As Sofia returned to her seat giving Thanasis some space, he opened his briefcase and got his laptop and started checking his emails. He didn’t want to admit it but he was addicted to his work and especially to checking his emails. There wasn’t really something that needed his attention so he relaxed a bit and started drinking his wine. Unlike half of the people of Tamora, he wasn’t a Manist so alcohol was not a big deal. While he was ethnically Seleucid and an Anahitaist he was still Tamoran so he would never drink in public or around people he didn’t know well but he definitely wasn’t against it. That wasn’t to say that he didn’t care about religion it was just that it wasn’t his priority, doing business was. In fact he always believed that if Tamorans would switch a quarter of the energy and interest they have for religion and put them into doing business they would beat the Heyrans at their own game.

“Let’s hope this festival thing turns out to be better than the Merina deal” he thought to himself. He couldn’t care less about jewelry, though he did add a reminder in his phone to buy something for his two wives back home. What he was interested in was energy: oil, gas, energy production & distribution etc. If things didn’t work out in that he could also do with mining and business in general. He figured that since Ipsus hosted the HQ of OPEN then there could be some potential for business at this festival. Finding deals in the oil and gas sector wasn’t always easy. It seemed like most of Mundus had state companies in this field and Tamora was yet again an outliner in this by having only private companies. Still he couldn’t complain, he already made arrangements that once the festival is over he would go to the Kingdom of Clysperis (http://rokkenjimatio.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=20&st=0&#entry25) which was fast becoming an attractive market for Tamoran businesses. So there were still plenty of opportunities.

The flight didn’t take long and he was soon in Ipsus. He didn’t bother going to the hotel first; there was no reason from his point of view. He was already dressed in his business suit and Sofia would take care of the luggage and arrange for it to arrive at his hotel.

As he arrived at the festival he begun looking around to get a feel of the place when his phone started ringing reminding him he had to buy jewelry for his wives. “Might as well do it now” he thought as he stopped and entered the first jewelry store he came across.

Heydar waited for the family to gather in the tent, there was his Mother-in-law, former Queen Katerina, his own wife Queen Chryssa, his sister Princess Thekla and of course Heydar's 10 year old son Golzar. The boy would rather have been out watching the camel racing but his father had been telling him for weeks now about how significantly his life was going to change. It was hard for a 10 year old to take in as in just a short space of time his grand-father, uncle and various cousins had all died and now he was being groomed as a future King. The central courtyard of the Palace was a lush green garden under a canopy of purple and blue silks creating a shaded tent in the centre. Low slung couches, huge bean bag style pillows and polished wood tables bedecked in gold embroided table clothes. On each table stood a crystal cut pitcher of ice water and bowls of fresh fruit and candied treats. "Golzar, put that down" His mother Chryssa barked at him as he tried to put yet another chunk of some pink sugar encrusted treat in his mouth.

"Let him have it" Heydar chuckled, "A festival isn't a festival without a little indulgence" he laughed from his position on one of the couches. The boys mother shook her head and informed him that should be the last one, especially as the powdery white sugar that encrusted it got onto his nice new red shirt.

At the airfield Danyaal however had a problem here was Albrecht attempting to get him to essentially desert his post. He believed in some strange way he should follow the mans request however he'd also been told to stay at the airfield. "I can accompany you on the flight if you wish, but then my post is back at the airfield" he said as he followed Albrecht to the helicopter. "As for a wife that is now business for my cousin the King to arrange. I am merely his humble envoy and what he wishes for the good of the family and the good of the nation then that is my honour to do." He explained well aware that their conversations would be heard by anyone in ear shot. The last thing he did before boarding the helicopter was welcome Princess Næxyn xy Thælyrn and her entourage of apparently husbands. It was a rather weird way of doing things and the last culture he'd heard of that did it was the Lodjains and that hadn't exactly turned out to be a welcome interaction. Danyaal bowed to the Princess and shook hands of the others. He escorted them over to one of the larger waiting helicopters, wished them a happy journey and returned to the helicopter with the Urburzis delegation in. Clambering aboard he watched as the two pilots flew in formation towards the desert and the festival site circling it once at altitude to not kick up any sand before touching down in the designated helicopter port. Danyaal had been hoping to keep a low profile however having been spotted by his cousin Princess Afroditi he was busted.

"I thought you were supposed to be at the airfield?" She asked him as she had only just recently arrived herself.

"I had Prince Albrecht here to accompany." He explained, "Perhaps cousin you can take over" Danyal turned back to Albrecht bowed and wished him well for the remainder of his stay. Dutifully Afroditi took over and accompanied both the Urburzis and Xaeth royals into the Palace.

"My Uncle will be ever so happy you've arrived" she explained as they entered through one of the large walls, the Palace inside however was built in a bowl in the ground using the surrounding terrain to provide constant shelter and keep the sand from blowing in. "I do hope you'll enjoy your stay, please take a seat." the Princess throw a hand around the seating area as her uncle stood.

"Prince Albrecht" the King stood from his comfortable couch and crossed over extending a warm handshake. "I believe this is your second time at our festival, glad to see we made a good first impression. Please come take a seat." Heydar guided him towards a table close to Queen Chryssa.

"Nice to meet you" the Queen said as she poured a glass of water for the guest. Meanwhile the King had crossed towards the Xaeth Princess and her husbands.

"Your Highness I am honoured you've come to pay us a visit" he gave a small bow his hand on his heart, "and your very fortunate husbands" he shook each by the hand. "Please come take a seat" He helped her to a couch straight in front of where he and his family sat and just as his wife had poured them a drink of water each. " I believe your the first from your nation to attend this event?" he half asked and half informed. "I must warn you that unless your a hardened shopper it is very easy to part with a small fortune at these events. The trick, or so my wife tells me" he turned and smiled at Chryssa, "Is to first walk a few times round the stores before approaching, otherwise the honeyed words of the artisans can lead to you easily parting with money." He scooted himself closer to Princess Næxyn. "Now tell me, that young Empress of yours, how is she these days, settling into her new role?" He asked.

It was only after Princess Næxyn had responded that Heydar allowed himself to be distracted as Princess Afroditi arrived again this time with Emperor Abbas in tow. Heydar stood and walked over a broad smile on his face, "Emperor, Shieh, Friend" he said warmly offering a two handed handshake a polite bow. "I am grateful you have come and especially more grateful that you have brought your wife" Knowing their stance on contact King Heydar merely bowed deeper to the Empress and lead them to a seat to his right where Princess Thelka was sat. It was the Princess who poured each of the new arrivals a drink. "Well this is turning into an excellent Festival already, we have our neighbours, old friends and new friends." Heydar raised a glass to Tamora, Urburzis and Xaeth in turn. "Here is to an enjoyable, profitable and exciting few days." He took a sip of the cool water. "Now as host I am duty bound to ask if there is anything in particular I can do for each of you while you are here, or do you simply wish to buy beautiful jewellrey or chance your arm with some gambling on camels? Do some dancing? Eat til your burst? or anything else?"

As the Achkaerin group wandered the festival they stuck out like a sore thumb especially once they reached the part with the various temporary eating establishments in their tents. "Hello....Hello" A voice called at them, "Lodjain? Cenneg? Alander? Morelander? Achkaerin?" the voice rattled off a whole list of nations, "Come and try what we have?" soon voices from the other tents called at them too inviting them inside.

A tall man dressed in a white floor length robe appeared behind them. "All fine eateries" he said with a smile, "But not worthy of four fine ladies as yourself." the man gave a small bow. "I am Banu Darzi" It was clear that the man was rather wealthy, a heavy gold chain at his neck and a large diamond ear stud testifying to the fact. "These scum have no idea how to address a Countess." the man address Melanie, "I'm sorry, I make it a point to know as many nobles as possible from across Mundus and especially ones who take an interest in the past. Now perhaps I can show you to a tent where you will not die of food poisoning." He guided the four through the almost street like rows of tents until they reached a blue tent with various flags and ribbons fluttering. "VAHID" Banu yelled as he entered, "Fire up your ovens you have guests." a short man with a beard shot his head out of an opening in the wall of the tent before yelling in Seleucid could be heard.

"Banu" the man appeared moments later. "You are welcome as always" the two embraced, "Especially when you bring such guests with you. Please be seated" The man waited for the four women to get sat down. "Now I am Vahid Tahman and this is my establishment and today I shall be honoured to serve you a local breakfast."

"Vahid, perhaps leave the breakfast stew off though." Banu suggested, a local delicacy was "Head and Hoof Stew" a thin broth that still had the sheeps head complete with eyeballs floating in it. The dish was tasty and popular although visually not the most appealing. Vahid smiled and nodded as a young boy dressed in a smart green uniform appeared and placed a silver tray down and began mixing tea in a large silver pot before pouring them each a glassful its minty aroma filling the air. "Vahid here was considered one of the foremost chefs in Royal Seleucid."

"Until this" he held up his hand that trembled, "I got ill and this happened, not a good thing when holding a knife" he chuckled, "But now it simply means I can be here in front of my establishments talking with guests like yourself. Now I shall go and check on your bread." he disappeared off.

"As for myself" Banu realised he had not introduced himself. "I'm Banu Darzi, one time owner of a lovely jewellrey company, now retired but today I like to dabble in a bit of trading of more difficult to find items. The adventure of finding for clients the odd item for their collection is a kind of mental adventure and stops the brain dying off. Now when I spot Baroness Melanie here I thought to myself.....well first you looked a little lost......and second that you are someone I think could do me a favour. I have an item that I wish to not be associated with anymore but I need someone to take ownership of it who will know where it should go." He wrote down a set of numbers. "Here everything is like a grid, that is row, that is column, that is tent." he pointed to the numbers. "If you ask for Jared when you arrive and tell him that you are collecting Banu's item he'll let you have it. I would appreciate if you are asked that you say you purchased it from Jared." He stood. "Now I have imposed enough. I wish you an enjoyable stay and an enjoyable breakfast." With perfect timing the waiters arrived.

"We have flatbreads, honey, jams, feta cheese, our nations omlette and of course Halim." Vahid explained, "Oh....Halim is a thick porridge of meat, we use lamb and chicken boiled and mashed with wheat until it forms a oatmeal-like consistency.  We top with melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar. It is best eaten warm." He took the lid of a pot and placed four white bowls on the table. "And despite Banu's mothering I thought you should try the Head and Hoof Stew, we call it Kaleh Pâcheh. You look like adventurous types." he whipped a bowl lid away revealing a half disintegrated sheeps head looking up, four eyeballs bobbing in the thin broth. "Now please you need anything just ask." With that he stepped aside to allow them to tuck in. Vahid and Banu both left the group to their breakfast as Banu settled the bill well out of sight and ear shot. He may not be the most traditional of Seleucid but he was a firm believer in the nations tradition of hospitality towards foreigners, especially ones who could do him a favour.

Albrecht raveled in the discomfort he caused for Danyal, before staying silent for the ride. He gave a polite nod to the Xaeth delegation.

"Your Highness, a Pleasure." was all he said, before staying silent unless asked until they arrived. He knew from last time the Seleucid where profoundly proud of the the festival, so he wouldn't be able to go straight for the hard talk. Well, maybe causing some distress later for Danyal might be worth the wait.

Arriving at Heydar's, Albrecht accepted the handshake in a firm response, nodding slowly:

"Good to see you doing well, your Majesty. We where in need of a quick solution last time and had money to spend. Your artisan did not disappoint. The blade rests atop the grave of a young Martyr now, nestled with Millions worth in Diamonds."

He took his seat, watching the others arrive, though he didn't relax. Right now, this was territory of an unknown enemy to him, and he had to tread carefully.

"I will likely take my time and go shopping the stalls later. I intend to grace the artisan who made the blade for Orion with a visit, and wish to make sure people hear how pleased we are with his daughters craftsmanship. The real reason why i came to visit can wait until the festival has passed. No reason to sour the mood with hard politics just yet."

He gave a nod towards Abbas: "Your Majesty, honored to meet you. Thankfully we get a chance to meet at a festival, before we involuntarily have to talk politics after."

Albrecht made sure to try and drive the point home he didn't wish to talk politics right now in public.

Albrecht glanced over to Golzar, still trying to sneak treats when his mother wasn't watching, his face softening to a warm smile and softer composure: "He can be glad you are his father. The Emperor's Mother was very traditional in this regard, not unlike your Father. And she was not of the type to give warnings."

He sipped from a drink he had been offered: "I'm contempt with keeping our two runaway princesses grounded at home. And believe me, those two little Brats hate the fact the can't come here. I Have to admit i teased them with pictures from the festival and all the jewelry they are going to miss."

And those two arrogant brats looking down on people treating humans like dirt beneath their feet would have felt right home here - Albrecht quietly thought to himself.

Abbas and Alya both appreciated that were greeted by a member of the Seleucid royal family like Afroditi rather that some distant relative.  After they exchanged greetings, both Abbas and Alya expressed their condolences to Afroditi for the loss of her father and the other “tragic incident” referring to the suicide of prince Hadi.

“The late king was a great man.” said Abbas “he has made a mark on the whole region and beyond”.

Alya added “there is a custom in Tamora to give our emperors and kings an epithet after they pass. It’s a way for people to describe the legacy of a monarch in one word. Since our family has many children” referring not just to hers and Abbas but also to Abbas and his other wives “I was curious to see how the history text books describe him. We have many textbooks and most of them describe him as the Wise so that’s further proof of the impact he had beyond the borders of his kingdom”.

Not wanting to linger much on the sad aspects as to not ruin the mood, Alya changed the topic:
“Your Royal Highness, if I may ask, how did find the experience (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg7876#msg7876) in Lodja at the Palace of the Queen?” Alya avoided the word “Goddess” and opted for “Queen”.

Once inside the tent, they both smiled as king Heydar greeted them. They both bowed and Abbas replied: “Friend, we wouldn’t miss for the world. “ Since Abbas had not just publicly expressed his condolences for the death of Akakios but had also called Heydar in private as soon as he heard the news, he saw no need to talk about this again now and ruin the mood in the room.

Abbas then took a moment to look around the tent and see who was present; He noticed the Xaethoon with her scars of war and a missing limb and he couldn’t help think “That’s why women shouldn’t be fighting in wars, it’s a shame. ”He paid no attention to her husbands since agreeing to enter into such a relation made them unworthy of respect in his view. He then noticed the young NU regent. Abbas didn’t know much about him so seeing him did not stir any emotion.  He then proceeded to briefly present himself and his wife to the Xaethoon Princess and the Urburzis Regent:

“I am Abbas Safavid, Emperor of Tamora. This is my wife Alya.” He then made discreet nod to the princess and regent but discreetly ignoring the husbands of the Xaethoon Princess. Alya made a deep bow placing her right hand over her heart.

“Pleased to meet you” Abbas replied to the presentations.

After they raised their glasses to Tamora, Urburzis and Xaeth, Abbas added: ”Let’s also drink to King Heydar, not just for being a great host and bringing us all together here but for the great news of him taking a second wife (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg11830#msg11830). “ he then raised the glass for another toast. The imperial couple was extremely pleased to have water in their glasses rather the sensitive issue of alcohol.

Abbas then replied to king Heydar ”In fact there is something you could do for me and I dare say for all of us present. Alya has had the pleasure of meeting the HRH Thekla and has told me just how great of an artist she is. Unfortunately, we missed the previous festival where I understand she played the harp (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=459.msg3048#msg3048) and I have been unable to attend the concert she gave when she was in Tamora (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=845.msg8672#msg8672), so if maybe you could ask her HRH to play for us I would appreciate it a lot.” As she said that he briefly looked at Thekla acknowledging her presence before returning his gaze to the RS king.

Then they both sat down and tried to engage the other guests as well as the hosts. Abbas, understanding that regent Albrecht did not want to talk politics in public, tried to make small talk by agreeing with him:” Yes, there is a time and place for everything I guess. Now it’s more a time to relax and enjoy the hospitality of our hosts rather than talk politics. I know YIH must hear this often but the airship you use does make an impression. You can see it from a mile away.”

Alya addressed Næxyn:
“YIH, I have to say the reputation of the artisans of the festival is world class and thanks to them and also our hosts it gives us the chance to meet people from all over the world. I have never had the pleasure of meeting a Xaethoon royal before though I have heard much about your Empire. I have followed closely the news about the digs (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=1177.msg11719#msg11719) in Eastern Xæth. While Islam is not our faith, our roots and our history have much in common so any site such as this can always reveal more vital information than perhaps is obvious at first glance. “

Abbas also addressed King Heydar:
“Friend, I know this is not much of a surprise but Alya is here more for the jewelry and will probably go soon and visit the artisans. I on the other hand have enough of them and will not visit them right away” he said smiling” I would be more interested to have some of your traditional cuisine. Anything you know it’s best I trust you to bring as long as it’s not pork” he said smiling.

Næxyn spent much of the helicopter ride to the palace taking in what she could see of the country. It was an interesting nation, and certainly far drier than her homeland. Which she almost preferred in a way; Xæth's humidity lent itself to an uncomfortable amount of sweating. She chatted idly with her husbands as well as they patiently awaited their arrival. Once they arrived she had to admire the palace itself; it couldn't compare to the Imperial Palace of course, but it was still an abode fit for a King. Perhaps not an Empress, but certainly a King. Næxyn paid little attention to Albrecht except to exchange pleasantries, as aside from that she had as little interest as him as he did her.

Næxyn reciprocated King Heydar's minor bow, a small smile on her face as she spoke, "It is an honour to be shown such generosity as to be invited into your home, Your Majesty." Her husbands shook the King's hand as he offered it, echoing their wife's sentiments as well.

Næxyn was more than happy to take the offered seat, her husbands taking their places on either side of her. She took an instant disliking to the fact that the Queen was pouring her water, as that was a job for servants and certainly not the consort of a ruler. However she took the glass with a smile and quick word of thanks, taking a long sip before speaking.

"The first Xæthoon of note, at least. Which is honestly quite surprising, for obvious reasons," she gestured at the jewelery she was already wearing, "But you need not worry about me, Your Majesty, I am of Xæth. We are veteran buyers of jewelry down to the very last woman. I am most appreciative of the advice, however." Her last sentence was punctuated with a polite smile and nod at Chryssa.

She took another drink of water as Heydar asked his next question, and she couldn't help but smile at the mention of Ælirn. "She is doing magnificently; as well as anyone could have hoped for. Being an Empress is not an easy job of course, and to be honest sometimes I worry her hair will start going grey before she even finds her first husband," she chuckled, "But Ælirn treats her duties with the utmost respect and she has thrown herself into her role. I am... immensely proud of my great-niece."

When the Tamoran Emperor and his wife entered, Næxyn looked over with interest. When Abbas introduced them, Næxyn did likewise. "Næxyn xy Thælyrn," she said, placing a hand on her chest before gesturing at her husbands, "And these are my husbands, Zadyr xy Oolily, Prince of Vaalirn, and Aataxaris Adara." The two of them gave the Tamorans polite, short bows.

When Alya addressed her, Næxyn was more than happy to engage her in conversation. "And I have never had the pleasure of meeting a Tamoran royal as well, though I have heard much of Tamora myself," the Princess said with a warm smile, "The digs? Oh yes, I have heard of them. Our Empress was very excited about them when she found out; I have never met another woman more in love with history than my esteemed great-niece. But it is always good to have things which can bring disparate nations together, wouldn't you agree?"

Melanie wasn't sure quite what to make of the situation she appeared to have found herself in. Being asked something like that wasn't usual and carried many implications and even more of the hypothetical nature, questions were running around inside her head - what was the item? Was it legal? Why did he need someone else to go and deal with it? Still there was only one way to find out the answers to those questions and that was to go and do as asked. She continued eating and half smiled as Rosalie started pouring over her notes, so typical these days.

"I take it then that you also have an interest in history?" Melanie asked looking across the table at Banu

“I agree but I wouldn’t also ignore the risks.” Said Alya. “ Exploring one’s history doesn’t always lead to bringing people together. To give you an example, it’s public knowledge that our religion is heavily influenced by Islam and relations between our faith and the Muslim one are good. However, uncovering our temples from the XI and XII th centuries is always a delicate matter since they often feature representations of the Muslim prophet Mohammed, something that is forbidden by the Muslim faith. You can imagine that such historical sites do not bring nations together. While I do not expect to something remotely controversial to be unearth in your Empire, I believe caution is also needed. “

“That is not to say that exploring these sites is something undesirable” intervened Abbas” On the contrary, I think we have a duty to see what is there and to preserve them for eternity. However, we must also be aware that these sites are more than just long burred buildings, they do have an impact on us and the impact is not always what we want.”

Alya resumed:” I noticed you said HIM likes history but have not said so about yourself” Alya also wondered why Næxyn had so much reverence for the young empress and figured it was a way to boast Xaeth in the presence of foreigners so did not comment on it.” Is history also something YIH is interested in or are other pursuits more to YIH liking?” she asked genuinely interested since the Xæthoon princess was intriguing to her because of her past when she fought alongside Tamorans in Vaguzia.

Heydar smiled as Albrecht praised the craftsmanship of his people. "I am thrilled that my people were able to fulfil such an important and symbolic task for you. Such memorials are important to show the world fine examples." he added not really sure of who or what this martyr stuff was about. While he'd been busy serving in the military he hadn't really taken much of an interest in the affairs of other nations unless they directly effected Royal Seleucid and as such he had little concern about a Urburzis martyr. "As for the political talk you may begin it whenever you feel correct, now, after the festival, stay a few days if you wish." Heydar offered.

Heydar was pleased to see the Xaeth and Tamoran parties hitting it off, such social occasions could be hard work but here it seemed quiet a few of the guests were at least being cordial to each other.  He listened in carefully to the talks about various historical matters, a subject that bored him at school. Religion was even more tedious to him although at least on that matter he had to at least give an outward impression of being a pious and devoted man of his native faith. Even the festival was a key to that, a show that wealth was increasing and thus poverty being eliminated, the showing of hospitality to anyone regardless of their background and weird traditions like the Xaethians.

Princess Afroditi smiled as she fondly remembered her time in Lodja, "The people there are very different to us in many ways but they are great hosts. Nothing is too much for them and life on their Island is rather.....pleasant" she said having thought, "I've seen TV shows set in the past and you imagine these royal courts of the medieval period with just random musicians and artists gracing the hallways stuck in their art, well in Lodja thats practically a reality. You'd walk down the corridor and sat on a bench in the garden you'd find some musician composing something, turn the corner an artist with an easel and some court lady as his muse would be at work. I couldn't abide living there forever though" she lowered her tone, "They seem far too keen to gossip and speculate about their love lives" she hoped she hadn't said anything out of order. "But their Queen Klara is a rather free spirit" Meanwhile Heydar had instructed Thelka to go and get her harp, it took a while before she returned, the giant gold inscribed instrument being wheeled by a duo of servant who bowed to the King once they'd positioned the instrument and a box seat.

"I found playing in Tamora one of the most nerve wracking performances I've ever given" Thelka explained as she settled down and wriggled her fingers ready to begin playing. "Its different playing in my homeland, I know even if I mess up no one is going to criticise because I'm a Princess here. Abroad however, well as nice as your people were to me, you never know how critical they may be." she gave a few strings a testing pluck, readjusted her seating and began picking strings for one of her favourite pieces to play (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_jy83_YQjQ).

Across the festival grounds Banu responded to Melanie as the group ate, "I have an interest in humanity" he replied rather vaguely, "I find the actions, thoughts and beliefs of people fascinating. Remembering stuffy dates and facts however bores me. I suppose this is how the item in question ended up in my possession." He smiled aware that tents had ears, "I look forward to hearing of your successes." He stood and finally left the tent heading back towards the area near the Palace, it would be there he would scour the various stalls looking for objects that perhaps their traders didn't fully appreciate or more likely he'd just look at fulfilling his "List" he removed a piece of paper from his shirt pocket and looked at it, a list of various items his foreign clients wished to get. A businessman in Cantabria wanted a watch, a nobleman in Bakkermaya a bracelet for his daughters 21st. All people who for whatever reason couldn't attend and trusted him to get them the best deals, of course not quiet as good as he'd tell them he'd got but after all you didn't get to amass the wealth he had without skimming a little off the top.

"That is very fair; after all there is a reason why there remain no Muslims in Xæth," said Prince Zadyr, reclining and taking a sip of his water, "And if the old stories have even a wisp of truth, their fate was likely a terrible one."

"Fair, but let's not speak of those sorts of things; this is a celebration, after," Næxyn interjected before answering Alya's question, "But as for myself, no. I cannot say hisotry is truly one of my areas of interest. I know my history of course, and I understand the significance of it. But my passions lie elsewhere; in my youth I was interested in more... Natural pursuits? Camping, hiking, hunting, and the like."

Then the Princess chuckles, "Although, I can't indulge myself as much as I did in my younger days. But do please tell, what sorts of things do you two enjoy?"

King Lapu, along with a few guards, a couple of lackeys, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sofia Aliena, arrived in Royal Seleucid an hour or two too late. Instead of being received by Danyal, they just rode a helicopter to the Palace of Sands, The King went straight to where King Heydar was while the Minister went off to the stalls, both accompanied by their own guards and lackeys.

King Lapu’s face and body began to sweat as he walked around the busy bazaar, he may be used to living in a humid climate but the sun’s shine shone so severe in the desert. He marched into the Seleucid’s Royal’s tent and greeted every one worthy of such. “Greetings, your graces, and your majesty King Heydar.” He began, nodding to Abbas, Albrecht, and Naexyn before bowing to the other King in the tent. “Last time I was here, your father welcomed me warmly. I shall reciprocate this gesture by offering your grace this humble gift as a friendly gesture..” A servant brought forward a basket of assorted fruits such as dragonfruit, jackfruit, soursop, coconuts, and bananas. “They are on season so that’s just a small shipment compared to the truckload coming here later, courtesy of Dizon Farms. It shall be provided to your grace, your majesties, and to everyone bargaining and trading outside. Also, I would like to give condolences on the deaths of Akakios and your half-siblings. They shall be forever remembered and may Anahita give them peace and quiet. However, I’m not here to lament the dead and give away free foods, I’m here to give a few offers, however, I shall do it when I have finished spending all of my money in the markets outside.” The King said as he bowed and drank some wine from his flask.

Sofia Aliena, on the other hand, went on to meet another important Midaranyen personality. “Ma’am Kadyrov.” She called out. “Sofia Aliena, Minister of Foreign Affairs.” She extended her hand out to be shaken. “May we talk business for a moment.”

As princess Thekla began playing the harp, Abbas played close attention for a couple of minutes before nodding discreetly in approval and saying loudly for all to hear:

“Alya was right. HRH is extremely talented.”

Alya however continued to pay uninterrupted attention to the Xæthoon as she replied:

“Aside from history, reading the holy book and taking care of the children? I personally enjoy travelling around the kingdoms of Tamora. I like to go to various (Manist) temples all over the empire; each component nation of the empire brings something unique to the architecture and decorations of the temples. Abbas barely has free time these days, he tries to mix work with leisure by playing chess with some of his ministers from time to time. He’s also a collector of coins, stamps and especially memorabilia. All of them related to Tamora in some way.”

Abbas intervenes:

“It’s something that we Safavid have in our blood I guess. My father and his father and so on have all had this passion. And now I believe I have succeeded it in passing it on to my sons. “

Just when Abbas was about to ask for some Seleucid food, King Lapu made his appearance. Quintelia was the only nation with which Tamora had a treaty in place and relations were good. However, Abbas was more than reluctant about King Lapu remembering how he called Tamora a “racket” during their private meeting. Still, politics demanded he keep his views to himself so he returned the greeting in a formal and respectful matter and so did Alya thanking the Quintelian king for his generosity.

Musaevna Kadyrov was still engaged in the shop with Alisha when she was approached by Sofia Aliena. She remembered her from “the Spice Harvest in Exile (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=1119.0)” event in UC that all three participated a while back though they never interacted.

“Ms. Aliena, it’s a pleasure. I don’t know if you met my friend Alisha McRae. She’s a Missionara Protectiva and a future biomedical engineer” she said as she shook Sofia’s hand.

“Of course, through the festival is all about leisure I don’t mind talking business at all.”

Rolron behr Darya de Kernpak found that even being a prince did not preclude him from waiting. As the younger brother of the Crown Prince and the current regent, he was waiting on a throne that he was unlikely to inherit; his brother Varzar had a robust constitution, yet he rarely participated in the high-risk activities of the aristocracy, and his children were healthy. Rolron had also waited on his wife: though he loved her dearly from the moment he laid eyes on her, she had been promised to another man, and Rolron had to manipulate his way into her heart over seven years. Now, he waited on his beloved daughter Lady Tareel, the jewel of his eye. She was sixteen - still young enough to be be naive and endearing, yet old enough for him to consider her future. She could marry a minor Daalish noble and live comfortably, but he wanted her to see the better riches Mundus had to offer.

So he sat patiently in his plane as he waited for his daughter's attendants to dress her to her satisfaction. She had expensive tastes, like her mother, and that was why he arranged for this trip as a treat. However, her preparations were seemingly for naught as she did not properly prepare for the heat. Aredal was hot, but Tareel lived in air conditioning and rarely experienced the outdoors, and she was soon sweating. Her father fared better as he was not as delicate and took the perspiration in stride.

The pair made their way through the stalls, followed by a small entourage. Rolron had no idea what his daughter had in mind, and he knew he should keep an eye out for a gift for his wife as well.

HEydar thanked Lapu for his messages, however to see a man who was clearly a drunk invoking his nations faith was a bit of a surprise whether it was the fact Lapu understood it or was sober enough to it didn't really matter. He too seemed rather keen to get down to business, how very unMidaranyian of them, didn't they know that the best part of such gatherings was the socialising and that helped ensure a smooth deal. You need only look outside to see that, salesmen taking the time to chat with potential customers before even beginning the sales pitches, all part of the spectacle of the Festival. Heydar was pleased to see Abbas and the Xaethoon representatives getting along well, one concern he'd seen his father have at prior years was it becoming too much about him keeping the atmosphere sociable but Emperor Abbas seemingly had no issue keeping that going, it must be a Midaranyan trait Heydar mused to himself. "Perhaps I may suggest a short change of venue" Heydar said once Abbas and Xaethoons had seemingly finished their conversation. "I fancy watching some of the camel racing, its a lesser part of the festival but I'm sure you'd enjoy it." he stood taking his jacket off and folding it over the back of a chair. "If anyone wishes to accompany me please feel free. I believe Queen Chryssa will be staying here. I don't think she enjoys the dust." he leaned down kissing his wife on the top of her head as he waited for those wishing to come to follow him. Outside an air conditioned fleet of SUV's waited and whisked the King and his followers across the dunes for about a mile to where a temporary oval had been set up. It was made to look like something from ancient times, carved out of yellow sandstone, when in reality it was largely formed plastic bolted expertly together. Heydar thought it may have even once been a set from a film but couldn't remember. A grandstand had been set up and as Heydar exited the vehicle a group of well dressed men began applauding. "Stelios" Heydar embraced one of the men who approached them. "Honoured guests this is Stelios, a long time friend, we joined the Air Force on the same day however he ended up staring at a blank RADAR screen on land while I got to soar with the eagles." He teased the man whom he had geniune warmth for.

"Yes Your Majesty but at least I was blessed with the swiftest camels." Stelios father was a trainer who had passed his knowledge onto Stelios who now helped run the family stables. "You're just in time though." Down on the sands six camels were being lined up but on their back was no jockey but instead a Mechanical Robot (http://www.supercoolrobots.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/76/2015/01/JockeyRobot2-2x1-b1-791x350.jpg) dressed in the racing silks of the various trainers.

"Ah I must explain" Heydar turned to his guests. "Several years ago my father became concerned that most jockeys were small boys from poor families, often they fell in the race and were badly hurt and so he insisted we find other ways of enjoying the sport without hurting children. This is the result, soon maybe even the camels will be Cyborgs." He took a seat and watched as the first race got underway there at the base of the stairs was a group of boys with remote controls flicking sticks to whip the camel like a jockey would. Heydar stood and applauded as the red and blue silked camel romped home in first before yelling some instructions down towards the track. This created a flurry of activity and soon six new camels, all in the yellow and blue chequred silks of the royal family were brought out and six boys approached the guests. "Please they will show you what to do, you see we removed the danger for the children but not the employment." the children were keen to show their guests their trade and how they controlled the camels and before long the next race was underway as Heydar watched his willing guests try and guide a camel round the 200meter long track while he enjoyed the sunshine and an iced tea.

Back at the Palace with those who remained Chyrssa was keen to get down to business of shopping. "Now I have no idea if people have come looking for anything in particular, I know last year our friends from Neu Urburzis had very particular items for their coronation in mind, I'm thrilled Emperor Orion found them to his satisfaction." She beamed, "I know most of the major craftsman and would be more than happy to help guide you around if you wish. I'm sure Thelka or Afroditi could do likewise." She offered.

As Rolron and Aredal wandered the market stalls there were calls towards them in various languages as people tried to work out where they were from. It was as they turned one corner and perused a stall or two that a rather old man began badgering them in a language they did not understand. Suddenly a tall man dressed in a kind of white robe trimed with dark red and gold embroidery arrived. "Be gone" the man hissed at the older man trying to make himself understood, he then turned to the royals from Tauredalia. "Forgive him, a savage man." he said in heavily accented English. "My name is Salih Miraj and I am the proprieter of this stall." he bowed respectfully and swung an arm presenting his stall which in effect was a rather large bright blue tent. "Now forgive me but royals should not be wandering in the dust especially, and please Ma'am do not take offence, when they look so warm." He had noticed the beaded sweat on Tareel's forehead. "Now I would be most rude if I did not offer you some shade, a cool drink and if not too presumptious a lighter outfit." He welcomed them into his tent and without needing to say a word various assistance appeared with chairs and ice cold water. "Now Lady Tareel" he said as he got his guests settled "While you are the epitime of style you are sadly not the most practically dressed for Royal Seleucid. So please as an official welcome to our nation please accept this." A woman appeared out of nowhere a green and gold coloured dress (https://friendlymorocco.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/moroccan-caftan-_-Friendly-Morocco.jpg) draped over her arm. "I hope you will find this much lighter and cooler, thus allowing you to enjoy our festival. If you wish we have a changing suite my assistant here can help with, we can also adjust it if you wish." He waited for the reply hopeful, his logic being if he got in the good books of these royals further sales could easily cover the cost of the dress which even if he didn't make any further sale the fact a foreign royal was seen leaving his tent with an item would bring a flock of others in to view his wares. "Now can I be of service any other way?" he asked.

Alisha McRae thanked Musaevna for the book and the spice, apart from at the recent festival it wasn't something she'd used much. Her friends in the Mothers told her about how it gave visions and helped them hear voices, all she knew is that it tasted a little like cinnamon. She looked at the mendi hand patterns, they were something she'd seen in her reading about the world and other cultures but this was the first time she'd seen any up close. The patterns were rather cool but the problem was she was in uniform and while the Missionara's uniform demands were nowhere near as strict as those of the Truthsayers they still did exist. Hands were to be kept clean and tidy, afterall a Missionara spent all day handling books and manuscripts and you couldn't risk damaging them, they weren't even allowed to paint their finger nails if they were on duty so Alisha figured that these would also be frowned upon. "I better not have one done, Ma'am" she said regretfully, "We're not Truthsayers but we still have a hierachy.....and a uniform policy." she instinctively felt at her collar as though straigtening it out. She did enjoy however watching the patterns being done.

Shedidn't really expect to be thrust into the middle of some kind of diplomatic "business" talks she was after all merely a young scholar, her first months at University a recent memory and her classes certainly didn't cover diplomacy. Alisha turned to Musaevna and said, "I'll just sit here and watch his a little longer if you want to talk Ma'am." She sat back down watching the artists hard at work.

Tareel's expression remained stoically conservative, but she was relieved to be offered shade and refreshments, let alone more appropriate apparel. She looked to her father, who nodded his approval, and disappeared with the servant to change. She critically studied her reflection for several minutes, turning this way and that, and decided that the beautiful dress complemented her olive skin nicely. She carelessly discarded her old outfit and its accessories, which her servants quickly gathered up and packed away.

While Tareel changed, Rolron took advantage of Salih's hospitality and drank in his surroundings while he enjoyed his drink. He was thoughtfully silent as he considered Salih's question. "My daughter is quite beautiful and she is beginning to outshine her mother. My wife has become quite depressed as of late as she thinks age has taken her looks," he said. "Do you have a piece that might reinvigorate my wife?" He chuckled heartily. "Or at least ensure that I do not get in trouble for the amount of money I will spend on my daughter."

Tareel reappeared and modeled her transformation for her father. She beamed, quite proud of how she looked. "What do you have that matches this?" she asked Salih.

King Lapu went out to the tents and strolled for a bit, with a few of his men following him around, carrying a few suitcases. After going through the busy bazaar, he steps into a tent. "Hello there, old friend." He said to the shop keep, disregarding the other buyers in the tent. "Your wares have served me well over the past year. I have worn this watch for over a year now and it has brought me great luck. The crown and the sword have been admired by my employees and my people. Now, do you have any goods that I can buy, maybe give me a discount?" He leaned on the desk as he waited for a reply.

"Well, I'm so sorry if this is a bad time, but my king has asked for a deal. First of which is this." Sofia hands over a hard drive she has been hiding in her purse. "It's a detailed blueprint for an espionage satellite. My king and some high-ranking military officials have come up with a plan to put these satellites up under the guise of weather satellites that would benefit both our nations. Lapu's request was for your company to construct and launch these satellites as soon as possible. The payment shall come once you agree."

"Hey Rajit how much time before we arrive?" A truck driver knocked the back window and asked his passenger. "And are the fruits still good?"

"Fuck the fruits" Rajit climbed to where his friend was. "They may be delicious, but they're still Quintelian." He threw away the banana peel to the side of the road before continuing. "Besides, isn't there a snowstorm there? Shiva has finally answered our prayers, am I right Salman."

"Not on all of our enemies though. Their king is still alive, Princess Aanya is still alive, and we're still stuck on an island with the government jerking itself off from the other side of the sea." He was cut short by his friend.

"Can't you just drive and shut up and let me enjoy the fruit grown by demons." He said as he leaned on an opened crate. "Anyways, you sure that the princess is in this festival?"

"Yes, you've already asked that question for many times. I trust the intel and the man who gave it, and I've brought a bomb just in case things get south for us." Salman shouted, to which Rajit just chuckled at.

"Glory to the New Republic of Dveep!" Rajit shouted.

"Glory to the New Republic of Dveep" Salman sighed.

"Can I have this necklace please, and this ring as well for what you offered." A woman wearing light saree bargained in a tent. After getting her desired deal, on a diamond, she proceeded to walk to a friend of hers. "You think this fits me? I should look grand and luxurious as our traditional princesses would be." Princess Aanya Socram (https://www.filmibeat.com/img/220x100x275/popcorn/profile_photos/deepika-padukone-20180813150642-571.jpg), the only known living heir of the late King Khadga Khan Socram, said to her friend.

"Yes, they fit you, but remember that you still live in hiding in the slums of Djerb. Plus, you only have a few dozen men who can't even secure this perimeter to protect you let alone help you take over your rightful kingdom. Why not spend your money in that?" Her friend and advisor, Shahida, replied. "Every second that you're out here is a chance for some Sarandibian spy or some random asshole who might decide that you look quite decent for a night-"

"I understand that, I just want to take the time to relax one last time before I fully commit to my fight." Aanya cut of Shahida. "Now, shall we meet some official support?" She asked as she walked through the busy place, looking for someone.

Emperor Abbas went with King Haydar and the other guests at the camel race. He was a bit curious to see how it worked since he had heard it was a thing in Royal Seleucid. He certainly didn’t expect for the jockeys to be robots and found that weird. He found it even more awkward to have a child explain to him, an Emperor, how to guide a camel. Still, he got into the game and tried to guide the camel over the 200 m track which proved to be rather fun endeavor in the end.

While the others guests were still busy guiding the camels, Abbas approached Heydar:

“Friend, it is indeed a fine festival and it’s only beginning. Your late father was right; I did miss a lot by not taking part until now. But let’s not dwell much at the past and instead look at the future. You have just taken the throne and I saw you are full of energy and looking to make changes. I on the other hand, have to think more and more about what I leave behind. I still have a lot of time but I need to prepare now for when my son, Jamshid, takes the throne. Relations between our countries are great and we can count on each other should the need arise. I want to expand on that on this great relation by having our families linked. The Safavids and the Soters have been the major families of Midaranye for almost a millennium. If we stand together there’s nobody that can threaten our position in Midaranye. It is for this reason that I want to ask you as head of your family to have your princess Thekla marry my son Jamshid, the one that will succeed me on the throne.

I know that poses a lot of problems for us. She would have to change religion and follow the Prophet for one, there is no other way. I would also be lying if I told you that such a proposal would be well received by everyone back home. I can’t talk about your kingdom but in my empire it will do more than rock the boat but they will eventually get in line if Thekla conforms to our customs and commits to understanding our culture. Having this marriage would be for us more than what foreigners on other continents write in long treaties. It would mean that us Safavids are bound to come to the aid of the Soters no matter what but we would of course expect for the Soter to do the same should the need arise. I mean here not just foreign enemies but also domestic ones. We would need to support each other even against forces that would seek to drive our families from our rightful thrones.

Lastly, there is also the issue of bride price which we have to pay according to our traditions. For us high nobles it needs not only to be expensive but also symbolic so all can see just how important the bride is for the family of the groom. Princess Thekla is a Soter, a name that is synonymous with power and wealth so the bride price must represent that. So my proposal to you friend is for us to buy from you two amphibious class ships and four destroyers, with half to be built by your shipyards and the other by Tamoran ones. I have already started making preparations to improve our shipbuilding infrastructure to accommodate building such large ships. I am prepared to pay 7.5 bln dinars (USD) for the ships. I will of course have to start making cuts in other departments of the armed forces to find the resources but we should be fine. It will symbolize Tamora’s commitment to expand its projection capability outside its neighboring countries and also be a worthy price for the princess I would think.

So tell me, what do you think of my offer? And do you think princess Thekla is up for the task?"

Back at the Palace, Alya remained with Queen Chyrssa and the others:

“I would love for you to show us around, I am looking for jewelry, something that is traditional or specific to Royal Seleucid.”
As Alya went with Chyrssa and the other guests, she also asked:
“I remember you mentioning a proposal about a gathering of consorts (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=349.msg11486#msg11486) of heads of state. What happened to that proposal? Are you still planning on moving forward with it?”

@Major Jaws

“What a shy kid” thought Musaevna seeing how Alisha opted to withdraw itself from the discussion. “I won’t be long, Alisha”.  She also signaled Zara, her personal assistant; to take care of Alisha should she want anything to buy.
“There is no such thing as a bad time when talking about deals, Ms. Aliena.” Said Musaevna smiling and taking the hard drive and immediately putting it her purse.
“I will have my people look at it as soon as possible to see exactly what you have in mind and come up with an estimation when everything could be done” she added.
“You want to stay around and look at some jewelry or you have plans in other places?” asked Musaevna not knowing exactly if Sofia was in a hurry or not.

@Tauredalia

Thanasis Polakis (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg10954#msg10954) managed to find some jewelry that he considered was adequate enough for his views and returned to search for potential contacts to make. After all, he was here for business not leisure.

Strolling around the fair he couldn’t help but see and hear as the two nobles from Tauredalia were greeted by Salih. That immediately drew his attention, Tauredalia was Tamora’s western neighbor but the two countries had little contact with each other and such an opportunity to engage and maybe build some connections couldn’t be missed. So he entered the tent, greeted and said:

“Forgive me for interrupting Your Royal Highness and your lovely daughter but I couldn’t help overhearing that you are from the Kingdoms of Tauredalia. My name is Thanasis Polakis, I am the VP of OPEN (ooc: the equivalent of the real life OPEC) and I am from Tamora. It’s a pleasure to be meeting you, I haven’t had a chance to travel to Tauredalia yet, much to my shame but I hear the country is wonderful. “
Wanting to get Salih on his side in order to help him smooth things with the Tauredalian nobles, he added to Salih:

“My friend, I bought two necklaces for my wives and I know realize just how forgetful I am.” As he said that he shows him the necklaces which he had just bought and were rather expensive. “Could you help me by bringing me a couple of earrings that could go well with these?”

“So what brings you to Royal Selelucid YRH? Is it shopping only or you have some other pursuits?” he added addressing Rolron.

With Banu having left the tent the four Achkaerinese spent a few more minutes eating and then they also headed out, stopping a few seconds later the three oldest of the four - Cynthia, Rosalie and Melanie looked at each other. Talk about a surprise, they'd come to the festival with one thing in mind and now were processing doing something else entirely.
"What are you going to do?" Rosalie asked
"I guess I'll go and see what this thing of Banu's is." Melanie said "Can you deal with what we came here for?"
"Yeah I've seen plenty of tents that deal in the sort of thing we're interested in I'll see if I can find anything there and then ask the locals." Rosalie said
"The famous camel racing is going to start soon." Cynthia said "I'll take Myrda and head that way."
"Ok then." Melanie said "That's where we'll meet later."

Melanie was in some ways quite glad to be discovering what she'd ended up in on her own, she was a little apprehensive about it but still it could be either something brilliant or something worrying or anywhere inbetween. She glanced for about the tenth time at the piece of paper that identified where she was going. Eventually she arrived at the tent and stepped inside

"Hello?" Melanie asked going to the counter in the tent and waiting for whoever was in charge to show "I'm looking for Jared, I'm picking up Banu's item."

Of the Xæthoons present Prince Zadyr was the only one to accompany Heydar to the camel races; he had of it and was interested in seeing the race in action. When Heydar introduced Stelios Zadyr was quick to introduce himself to the man as well. And the interaction between Heydar and Stelios put a small smile on his face as he thought about the long-time companions he had made whilst serving in the military himself. "Well, someone has to stare at screens. Sun above knows I stared at a great many during my time in the Navy," he said, making polite conversation.

Zadyr was also quite surprised by the robotic jockeys atop their camels; it was a rather strange sight to behold, after all. He was more than happy to attempt to control a camel, and while he was perhaps not the best at it he did find himself enjoying it. It was certainly a new and interesting experience, to say the least. "This is quite the interesting sport you have here in Royal Seleucid," Zadyr said to Stelios, noting that King Heydar himself was busy with the Tamoran Emperor, "And with such fine animals as well."

---

Back at the palace, Princess Næxyn and Aataxaris had elected to stay behind with Queen Chryssa. "We would be honoured to be guided around the Festival," Næxyn said with a smile, "I myself am hoping to find some fine opal pieces; my great niece adores the gem and with her birthday in a few months I figured this would be an appropriate time to buy her a gift."

"I, personally, am simply interested in looking around and seeing the jewelry wrought by the fine artisans of a foreign nation," Aataxaris added, taking another drink, "There are few nations that can rival Xæth in their love of jewelry, and Royal Seleucid has a whole festival dedicated to the art."

While Aredal - or rather, Taurdealia - was not a member of OPEN thanks to intranational disputes, Rolron certainly recognized the VP for what he was: representative of the better riches Mundus had to offer. Thanasis was too old to wed his beloved daughter, of course, but befriending him could open the doorway to better matches for her. He gladly greeted Thanasis. "It is a beautiful and varied landscape, from verdant forests to our native painted desert." After Thanasis spoke to Salih, he added, "My daughter's birthday is coming up and she has not yet decided her destination. She and her friends will have a sort of early senior trip." Quietly, he added, "As a father, I'm sure you understand how nerve-wracking that can be. I hope she will have her fill here and decide to vacation somewhere closer to home." He winked.

Simon his son Achilles and their Truthsayer escort Rita had been wandering the festival grounds for a while now, confining themselves more to the entertainment and food areas. Simon had rather enjoyed a nice cup of the local tea, so much so that he'd ordered a sack full of the stuff for back home. While he had no way of knowing one way or the other whether it was the case he imagined that back in the old homeland refreshing tea like this was common, maybe with a hint of Melange.  They headed towards the stalls selling the shiny stuff, "I suppose we better get your Mother something." He remarked to his son, "Good job we brought Rita, we can blame her if we mess it up." He chuckled, Rita was one of his wives proteges and the pair were as close as a mother and daughter in many ways. "and you" Simon turned harshly to his son Achilles, "You'll get Heidi something nice. She may be a concubine but that is no excuse for our family treating her like some kind of second class member of our circle." he jabbed a finger in her chest. Achilles just looked down at his feet unsure what to say. They began looking for a stall that looked interesting and had to work hard to avoid the constant attempts at sales from the different stalls. Coming to a rather likely looking stall they noticed the stall owner was busy dealing with a young woman who was asking for a Jared, it meant staff had their eyes off things for a moment and so Simon began to browse.

"Shit" Zhenya (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg12121#msg12121) cursed before realising what she'd said and standing up quickly. "Your Divine Majesty I am soooo sorry" she looked horrified that such a word had just passed her own lips. "I...I apologise." Queen Klara was just laughing uncaring at either the missed stitch or the swearing.

"Zhenya, when we are in private I have no problems with informality or a little swearing. The Ladies in Waiting are probably the closest to friends I'll get nowadays, and I did consider Stasya a great friend, as I still do Roksana even though she's now my wife. I count Anna a great friend too and I am certain you and Tonya (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg10356#msg10356) will become good friends of mine in time too. I wouldn't have hired you if I wasn't confident." Zhenya had joined the Queen's court just two days earlier and now sewing up the seam of the Queen's long dress had made her nervous. Klara was used to all this by now and even though this trip may be the most difficult of her so far short reign in terms of the situation she was entering she was confident that it would go well. After all she had an entourage that would make Achkaerin jealous. As well as the two new ladies on her staff there was also her head Lady in Waiting Anna Immich (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg495#msg495) who was now arranging the Queen's hair under her lightweight crown made of intricate woven silver wire. There was also Jasmina (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg498#msg498) who was busy checking with the Air Force crew the weather in Royal Seleucid, after all they'd need to make sure the Queen was well prepared. Next door without the help given to the Queen was her husband Leopold (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg8629#msg8629) who was busy fastening up his pale blue and gold pinstriped tie, selected to marry the colours of the Queen's dress, the golden embroidery on it showing what looked like rolling dunes and palm trees, clearly a reference to the Festival grounds themselves.

"Come to the desert they said.....it'll be fun they said." The final member of the Lodjain group said as they touched down and the Air Crew read out the weather conditions outside. Dragan (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=137.msg513#msg513) being rather fair skinned was already slorming on the sunblock making him look even paler. "Gingers and the desert should not mix.......Jasmina better take some of this." the Finance Minister handed a bottle of his sunblock to the stewardess to take to the Lady in Waiting.

"Look Klara said I needed to take some company and you had no official business, beside unlike the rest of her staff you're actually funny." Leopold said as he emerged from one of the bedrooms onboard. Soon the Queen and her retinue appeared. "Beautiful as always" he crossed to his wife kissing her on the cheek. "Ladies, fantastic work as usual and you yourselves will be the envy of the Festival." he said bowing respectfully to the four Ladies in Waiting, Tonya and Zhenya looking visibly nervous.

The group had to make the trip out in two helicopters, Leopold, Dragan and Jasmina in one and the Queen and the other Ladies in the other. Once they touched down yet again Klara was keen to make her greetings to the hosts, but was told that the King was out at the Camal racing, "Then we shall introduce ourselves to Queen Chyrssa while my husband goes Camal racing, Dragan make sure he doesn't gamble away the Queendom, Jasmina, make sure Dragan doesn't do anything stupid." The Queen instructed them with a grin giving her husband a kiss to see him off on the way out there. Anna lead the way into where Chryssa was sitting with her guests as attention switched to the arrivals it was Anna who spoke first.

"Your Majesty" she said directing herself to Chryssa, "It is my honour to present Her Divine Majesty Queen Klara II of Lodja, Guardian of Sessifet." she then backed out the way of her Queen who walked forward.

"Your Majesty it is a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry we missed your husband but I've dispatched my own to go and pay our respects." She said as she tried to pick up the conversations going on around them. It seemed that a tour of the festival was about to take place and the Queen was rather looking forward to that, as too were her Ladies.

Out at the camal track Leopold, Dragan and Jasmina arrived just as the first race had ended. Here it was Jasmina who was left to do the introductions as she found King Heydar, "Your Majesty" she courtseyed. "It is my honour to present His Majesty, King Leopold of Lodja, Consort of the Guardian." Her part done she retired into the background after all it did seem more a male orientated gathering here.

"King Heydar" Leopold offered a firm handshake. "A pleasure to meet you. This is my nations finance Minister, Dragan Knežević" He introduced his now rather red faced colleague. "My wife sends her respects and I believe is probably by now costing our nation a small fortune." He knew there would perhaps be a stiffness between the two nations and figured much like getting rid of a sticking plaster it was best to rip it off quickly. " I'd like to say our nation is disappointed by the conduct of Oksana Stasiuk. Her conduct is that unbecoming a noblewoman of Lodja and as such she will be losing her estates. I know this is no compensation for the hurt she caused your nation but I do hope it goes some way to show the respect our nation had for you and your people." He hoped Heydar accepted the kind of apology but tried to turn the conversation. "Now, lets say we break my Finance Ministers heart" He withdrew his wallet and pulled out a substaintial amount of money. "Give me this on that camel in red.......which of these youngsters in steering the beast?" he looked around at the controllers for the next race and a small boy put his hand up. "Right, if he wins you get this." He held up a single bank note of some high worth. "Got to incentivise them a little." Leopold said more to himself than anyone.

@Tauredalia:

Thanasis like most Tamorans would not let a woman of his family go outside without a male member of his family accompanying her or at least a member of the household staff (for those rich enough to afford it). To leave a 18 year old woman go on some trip alone would be unimaginable. That showed Thanasis just how different were the mores in Tauredalia despite sharing a border with Tamora. Or maybe these moors were particular to their region of Tauredalia he asked himself. He knew that the people of Liinaw, one of the kingdoms of Tauredalia, were closer aligned to the mores of Tamora. Nevertheless, it wasn’t like Thanasis hadn’t met such traditions elsewhere, he had been to Quintelia after all. The issue was how to navigate the discussion without inadvertently “triggering a bomb”. He wasn’t at this festival to have debates about customs and traditions or even buy jewelry but to make connections:

“I know indeed and understand perfectly” he said trying to empathize. “She is a beautiful young lady indeed. You must be really proud.”

“If I may ask, I know Tauredalia has been blessed with many riches and among them oil. Has your country ever considered joining OPEN? I am asking because I am constantly trying to improve the organization so it better serves its members and hearing why others are reluctant to join is always something I am interested to hear.”

Thanasis thought that one way that he could connect with Rolron was by finding some possible suitors for his daughter. Though considering their mores only those from the Tamoran kingdom of Attica would do since, otherwise he would risk making an enemy of the man. He figured that this was a too god opportunity to pass up and asked:

“Is the HRH engaged? Please forgive me for asking this. In my culture it is appropriate to ask these questions. In Tamora and also Royal Seleucid parents have a reasonability to make sure they find the best possible partners for their children so such discussions are the norm. I apologize if it’s seen as inappropriate in your society.”

"Only the Quintelians seem to enjoy our Airships so far, speaking of the Devil, i think King Lapu is arriving."

Albrecht kept in the background for a bit, enjoying the hospitality glancing around the premise.

As it was time for the racing Albrecht stayed behind, Camel racing wasn't his idea of fun. There was enough reason for bad blood in the words he had to make later on, so staying clear of Heydar on a day that was supposed to be fun seemed reasonable.

"Do you know where their stall is this year?" Albrecht produced a picture of the stall and the owner where he got the coronation sword made: "I do have to drop by and praise his daughters craftsmanship after all. Else i'm being tasked to find something expensive and risque. I am rather sure if there's one place to find such frivolous items it might be the festival. How else to show wealth?"

There was a bit if a toothy grin on albrecht, before he stood up and gave a small bow to queen klara:

"I did not expect her Divinity would come today." he said, giving her room to approach the hostess: "We were just about to discuss the shopping list."

Rolron paused a long time as he considered Thanasis' question. It wasn't unheard of to speak about marriage contracts, especially among the royalty, but he didn't want to seem too eager to secure a suitor for Tareel. He was aware of the cultural differences between Tamora and Tauredalia and while his daughter might chafe at the possibility of not being the only wife, she would get over it; he knew she'd become the favorite quickly enough.

He nodded. "It comes up on occasion, especially since our marriages must be approved by the reigning monarch," he replied. "We have considered royal alliances with the other kingdoms, but nothing serious quite yet." He smiled softly. "I know my daughter is nearly an adult, but I wanted to let her be a child a little longer," he admitted sheepishly. "I'm not ready yet to let go of my little girl."

He considered a response to Thanasis's inquiry about OPEN. Aredal and Liinaw had certainly wanted to join a larger organization that would help them leverage better sales for their primary export, but Daalish politics had gotten in the way. Not every kingdom had been blessed with oil and, unfortunately, bickering broke down their talks. The other kingdoms wanted a share of profits even though they didn't have the product and had their own silly requirements, but the worst part about the situation was that the confederation bylaws forbid kingdoms from independently joining international organizations.

The stall owner was thrilled that King Lapu had returned. "Your Majesty is always welcome here and I am so pleased to hear your enjoyment of our wares." He pulled up a comfortable looking chair and directed the King to sit. "Now perhaps allow me a moment to find my best pieces worthy of a King. Enjoy some mint tea, I think we even have some spirits too." Staff began preparing a side table next to the King as refreshments were made avaliable in the back of the large tent a group of five young apprentices were busy laying out items on a silver tray with a dark red silk cloth centred on it. There were small rings, cufflinks, cigarette cases, tie pins and a vast array of different items. Meanwhile three women were being bedecked in various items, who knows you may even get a sale with the King for his female members of his family. As the little presentation was about to begin the mans assistant had managed to persuade Princess Aanya into the tent. "Ah superb timing Your Highness." the man said as he set up another chair and yet more refreshments. "Two royals under my roof I have been clearly blessed" he said the words loudly more for those milling around outside as a way of inflating his companies prestige, a group of burly figures gathered near the entrance to the tent keeping the rest of the people out. One at a time the apprentices with the trays appeared and demonstrated what they had allowing the visitors to pick up and examine the objects. Meanwhile the girls came forward showcasing the vast array of items they were wearing.

A few tents down Jared looked around a little nervously after Melanie had told him she was here for Banu's object. "Please just pop through to the back" he instructed her as three others walked in. He apologised to them and instructed his assistant to look after Simon, Achilles and Rita as he went to deal with what his friend had set up. "If anyone asks you purchased this off someone in the row of tents far at the back ok....you can't remember their name and obviously as a foreigner unfamiliar with the festival you couldn't possibly find the place again." He lifted a few heavy duty metal boxes off a rack and examined the labels on each, a combination lock sat on each one and he slid the numbers to 1111. He opened the box and twisted it for Melanie to see the contents. There is the box only just big enough to contain it was a Maori severed head. "I trust you know what to do with it?" he asked and shut the box again. "Please input your own code" he had set the lock up for a new unique combination and turned away so it was clear Melanie would be the only one who would know it. "I'll be glad to get rid of that thing, its creepy" he added turning back when she'd done. "Now is there anything else I can be doing for you?" he asked as he lead her back out to the main store area. There Jared's assistant was busy showing Simon, Achillies and Rita a variety of women's jewels. " Sirs, Madam....I have many more items if you see nothing quiet to the ladies taste. Elegant ladies must have elegant jewels yes" he smiled.

Chryssa did her best to hide her disapproval of the Lodjain arrivals but did have to admit they made quiet the spectacle and she liked that. "We're delighted to have you with us Queen Klara" the Queen had servants bring more cushions and chairs for the Ladies in Waiting, unsure of the protocol setting them up behind their monarch, after all in the eyes of Chyrssa these women were nothing other than window dressing for the young Queen. "We were just about to go and explore the festival stalls" Chyrssa said but allowed the Queen and her ladies to get some refreshment rather than drag them back out into the heat. As time ticked by though it was time to make a move and Chryssa had arranged for a group of soldiers to accompany them and they made a rough box around the various royals. Chryssa walked beside Empress Alya  as they left the Palace. "The Gathering of Consorts is something I still hope to do, sadly I've had other things take my attention. I'm still learning to be a Queen, so any advice you have there is greatly received of course. Then there is the whole family issue. There was a time the Soter's numbered in their fifties and dear Akakois was taking measures to ensure the long term security of the dynasty. Sadly he didn't instil that desire in Hadi" the Queen lowered her voice. "I must put my own personal feelings aside and ensure my husband has many children, naturally we will have more of our own but well unless I am blessed with octuplets I'm not going to add that many on my own. So naturally we're looking for suitable wives. Respectable noble wives" The Queen gestured with her eyes towards the Lodjains so only Alya could see. "But once my husband is married again and hopefully both me and his new wife are with child we'll look at something. Although I do wonder" she now turned to Klara, "How would King Leopold feel surrounded by the women of Midaranaye if we had a gathering of Consorts?" she teased the young Queen with a good natured smile. "Perhaps we should look for some gifts for our men folk." The Queen guided them into a tent bearing a symbol of the Soter family above the tent flap.

Ghulam Raif was well respected for his watch making but his store stocked everything and he employed only the best. His tent was large enough that it had a small stage and around 50 seats where he put entertainment on and shows of us wares. As the soldiers appeared he was worried but seeing Chyrssa he relaxed. "I know any day I am fortunate to meet my Queen I am a blessed man but an Empress of Tamora, a pair of Princesses from Xaeth and the Queen of Lodja....oh and I see some of her Ladies. I now fear all my blessings for eternity are gone." He bowed to each of the royals. "Now let me see what I have, perhaps for the Empress I have a brooch that may be of interest, a golden oval dressed in green emeralds, white diamonds and red rubies. I believe the colours of our great neighbouring empire." Without a word a young girl knew exactly what he was after and went to get it. "For a pair of Princesses, hmm....something in matching, something in pairs. Perhaps a pair of delightful ear-rings, or maybe with matching necklace, tell me Your Highnesses, how do you feel about Jet and Silver, I may have the perfect ring. ABAN" he yelled and a young looking man appeared. "Get your creation" Dutifully the man headed off and appeared with a pair of rings, each polished beautifully in silver but where a diamond would be there was a piece of black jet stone carved beautifully as a rose. "Aban here is my latest graduating apprentice, these are the last two items from his showcase to earn his membership of the Guild. A young up and coming maker, a chance to buy his debut pieces, a great oppurtunity." Ghulum had clearly gone into sales mode. He then turned to the Lodjains. "Hmmm.....the Lodjains, so elegant, so beautiful, yet so easy to find something for." He turned to a counter behind him and found the pieces he knew he had "Blue topaz and gold, colours to match the dress of a Queen." he showed a tray full of items pairing the two. "Now Ladies these are merely the suggestions of a mere man and we all know when it comes to jewels the eye of a woman is far better. I hope I have wet your appetites." He stood aside allowing them to explore their objects he'd suggested.

"Ghulum do you have the items for the future Queen Haniyah's wedding made yet?" Chryssa asked after the progress of the preparations for her husbands up coming wedding to his 2nd wife.

"Your Majesty is it not bad luck to see them before the wedding day." the store keeper asked.

"Is it not bad luck Ghulum to upset your Queen.....and a customer" she countered.

"See this is why she is Queen" he said to the others, "Very wise, very commanding and dedicated" He disappeared into the back returning with a tiara, set of ear-rings, necklace, a pair of rings and various other items, Chryssa began carefully inspecting each. She seemed pleased with most however a few she wanted changes made to. "They shall be done by the end of the Festival if you wish to come and check again."

"No Ghulum I believe I can trust you, you've never let us down." It was both true but also an indicator to the guests that this was a store that was worth spending your money in.

Across at the Camel racing Heydar was pleased to hear that Zadyr was a military man. "Well Your Highness may have been a Squid." The King used the nickname given to many members of the Navy. "But you are part of our military brotherhood." He embraced the man, "So as such I think you should fire the pistol to start the next race." Orders barked a man came with a starting gun and handed it the King, "Now I know you Navy boys....this is a gun." He teased his guest with a smile. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you know many jokes about the Air Force" he conceded and waited for the Prince to start the race.

King Leopold arrived just as the race ended and despite not being in Heydar's list for future friendship he was duty bound to be nice. "King Leopold. Minister Dragan" they exchanged handshakes and Heydar was pleased Lepold was keen to get into the spirit of things, especially the way he flashing his cash and sharing it among the young boys. He was even more delighted when the young boy came in first and therefore won the bank note. "I must congratulate you on your recent marriage" Heydar began, "Snaring a Queen is a difficult task, you have done well. Especially a young beautiful one." Heydar didn't particularly think that and wanted to ask him what it was like being King of a land of whores but naturally didn't say anything. It was then that Heydar was rather taken by surprise as Emperor Abbas made his proposition. "Forgive us a moment" Heydar turned to the others, they'd been away from them at the time but naturally matters like this needed to be dealt with cautiously.

Heydar lead Abbas to a part of the stand reserved for the owners of the animals, speaking to one of the trainers Abbas saw the man stand bow and disappear leaving them alone in the private viewing area. "There are issues with what you ask naturally, but also oppurtunities. As for coming to each others defence I would hope that would happen regardless of this marriage, but I understand the message this sends to the outside world. Now my sister should have long been married now and I think the fact she was my fathers favourite meant he was reluctant to let her leave home. Now don't get me wrong, I love having my sister around but she has a future and that should be useful to our Kingdom. You ask if she'd be up for the task, she'll do as she's told. If I told her to marry a goat herder she'd do so and I'd make sure she did it with a smile on her face. Now I do have two problems, first is the issue of religion, there will be an outcry if she turns her back on our faith and I allow it. Now that can be overcome if we sort this second issue. Like you and the bride price we have traditions regarding the marriage too. In our faith it is expected that I pay you some money, think of it as a nest egg to use for setting Thelka up in her married life. As a Princess this figure should not be small but it must be money, it should also reflect the lifestyle for which she is to be granted. Now seeing as your looking at expanding your navy as part of your cultures traditions I may have a compromise, reduce the amount you are paying for the boats by $200million. We shall say that I have given you $200million as the gift for taking Thelka into your family. Now the other issue is that in our culture the brides guardian must be given some physical gift to show that the family she is marrying into is capable of looking after her. So my future father in law got some of the Palm, a title and some camels. Now while I am open to suggestions as to what gift you will give me I do have a suggestion for part of it, I would rather like a freehold on some land in Volos. Enough for me to at a time of my choosing to build a Temple there. I have been trying to educate myself on your nation and I have heard that despite that area having 30million of our faith it has no major religious site. I would like to change that. Beyond that I am open to suggestions."

Meanwhile as Albrecht had asked to revisit the store they had brought things for Orions coronation Queen Mother Katerina had been called. She had been Akakois third wife and of course was now a matriach of the family. She had a group of soldiers find a passage for them through the crowd. "I would very much have enjoyed seeing Seleucid jewels on a foreign coronation. Was it very grand?" she asked. She enjoyed all the pagentry and was rather looking forward to when Heydar, he step-son who was actually five years older than her, was officially crowned. He'd ensured he was witnessed being crowned in private but things just hadn't been rperfect yet for an official grand coronation. "Perhaps you can give me some ideas for making it extra special for him." She asked as they approached the tent. The store owner saw them approach. "Your Majesty" he bowed to Katerina and then to Albrecht, "Your Imperial Highness, I trust you are still enjoying last years items?" he asked, "I can assure you if there are problems I can get them fixed."

Næxyn was unsure of what exactly she thought of the visiting Lodja's. The Lodjains were a vain people with loose morals. But the fact that they had their Queen meant they understood the proper place of a woman better than anyone in Midaranye, at the very least. Although it was not as if such a thing was difficult, considering how Midaranye treated women. But regardless of her personal feeling towards the Lodjains she was a Princess of Xæth and to be rude or discourteous would reflect bad on both the Xæthoon people and the Imperial family. So Næxyn decided to make polite conversation with her as the group made their way through the festival.

"Queen Klara," she said with a polite nod before introducing herself, "I am Næxyn xy Thælyrn, Princess of Xæth, and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"Belated as it is, I must offer you my congratulates on your wedding all those months ago and welcome you to the married life, though I am sure you have already settled into it by now," Næxyn smiled, "And I hear my great niece was shown a wonderful time by your elder brother; the man has my thanks."

-

Once the group made their way into Ghulum's tent, both Næxyn and Aataxaris had to admit it was quite impressive for a mere tent. And if the Queen was leading them here, the man's pieces must be of high quality. They both doubted that if there was any significant chance of this man's wares disappointing, the Queen wouldn't have risked sullying her reputation by bringing such prestigious guests to him. The Princess smiled at Ghulum's fawning, realising it was because he was a merchant looking to make money but deciding to feel flattered nonetheless. When she saw Adan's rings presented to her, she was honestly impressed. "They are quite beautiful, I think I may not take the pair of them," she said with a smile, "However, before that I was looking for a gift for my freat niece. Something with opals, if you have any."

Aataxaris stayed back for the most part; he wasn't really interested in buying any jewelry for anyone at the moment. He was interested in taking a look at the pieces on display, studying the sorts of things one might find in Royal Seleucid and comparing it to what was in fashion and popular back home in Xæth. Aataxaris did decide he wanted to have a chat with Ghulum himself, though, and he waited until he wasn't busy with any of his very important customers before striking up a conversation.

"So, Mr. Ghulum, I must say that the pieces you have on display here are quite impressive. Were they all made by you or your apprentices?" he asked, politely making conversation, "How long have you been in the jewelry business?"

-------

Zadyr found himself chuckling at King Heydar's words, "Squid? Your Majesty, I must say that that is probably the least offensive thing a fellow military man has ever called me." The Prince was more than happy to fire off the starting pistol, and took Heydar's jab in stride. It reminded Zadyr of his time in the Navy, of the insults hurled and flung about between men who were closer to one another than brothers. He smiled. "No, your Majesty. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the men of the Air Wing," Zadyr said as he took the gun from Heydar's hand, "I can only imagine what a harrowing experience it must have been when the air conditioning in the office went down."

The Prince enjoyed watching the race, and was a little disappointed it was over as he was starting to get into this sport. But as he looked around and noticed and say Heydar and Abbas making their way elsewhere, he was left with the Lodjains. He wasn't overly fond of the Lodjains, but he supposed he felt some measure of kinship with Leopold. They were both men of standing married to women that their respective nations considered infinitely their better. It was something at least.

"King Leopold," he said to get the man's attention before gesturing to himself, "Zadyr xy Oolily, Prince of Vaalirn and first husband to Princess Næxyn xy Thælyrn of Xæth. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"I must echo the sentiments of His Majesty King Heydar," Zadyr said with a smile, "Married life is certainly something else, is it not?"

"Ma'am Musaevna. I have to talk to someone else but I can do that later." Sofia replied as she looked over to Alisha. "But yes, I do want to look for a nice new necklace or bracelet." She continued as she took out a checkbook and a pen from her pocket. "How about we check that one out?"

"What, two royals?" King Lapu asked the shopkeep as he looked around the tent looking for any recognizable faces, but the only one who looked like a royal was a fairly young woman accompanied by another young woman. "I don't seem to recognize you, are you by any chance related to the Seleucid King or the Xaethoon royalty?" He asked as he sipped his spirit.

"King Lapu, my pleasure to meet you. Why yes I am a Princess, the daughter of the late Khadga Socram." Princess Aanya replied as Shahida looked worried. "I know that my family hasn't been that friendly to your nation ever since the famine that ravaged a few decades ago." She continued as King Lapu listened with interest. "Now I am still the only living heir of Socram and Sarandib, and I intend to reclaim my ancestor's lands. I am just asking for some help financially and militarily and I promise that our people won't have any bad blood with yours anymore." She finished as she sipped some tea.

"Ok, let's just slow down for a moment." King Lapu replied as he started drinking some of the spirits. "You're really the lost princess, right? And you're here wandering out and about?"

"Yes, because I need some help. I have lived in the slums of Djerb for two decades now and I deem it necessary for me to finally start preparing for the liberation of Sarandib." She replied as she looked at some rings.

"Well if that's the case, then I'm sorry, I can't help you that much." King Lapu tore of a page from his checkbook and wrote '$100,000 only'. "This is the least I can do for now. It's a small amount but I guess that should help you for quite a while. Good luck with your endeavors." He finished of as finished a glass of offered spirits. "Also, I think the other leaders are at the camel races, it's just a quick ride from here." The King then turned his attention back to the offered jewelries as the princess went out of the tent. "Do you have anything else special here than these small wares? Maybe dial up the excitement here?" The King leaned back on his chair as he drank some tea that has cooled down a bit.

Albrecht posed for some Pictures with the Store owner, and left a couple of Pictures of Orions wielding the blade during the Coronation and for a Photographer alter that day in life size at the stall:

"Your daughter has done work truly worthy of imperial Regalia. I am sure we will take you highly into consideration once it is time for Orion to have his wife assigned next year." he then turned back to the former queen, nodding:

"It was beautiful really. But i am not sure i can really relate to what to get for King Heydar. Though my recommendation stands, his daughter..." Albrechts nods to the stall owner: "Managed to make a rusty movie prop into a gilded treasure with a red diamond as a center piece." he waked over to the live sized picture, where Orion had all pieces of his chosen regalia:

"For us, the regalia on the coronation day has several symbolic meanings. You see the brooch he wore? That was his mothers Piece, its usually tradition unless you really dislike your predecessor, to use the piece they added to the treasury. Then the crown of course, and the dove was from the first child monarch, a young empress that ended up killing herself over the pressure everyone had put on her at such young age. The blade now..."

Albrecht made sure some people listened:

"Was actually used in combat before turned into the piece of art it is now. When Orion was kidnapped the oldest one taken alongside him took the movie prop lying in the abandoned dungeon and held the door for the others to escape. It was the blade wielded by the first person that gave their live for the young emperor. So it held a lot of personal value for Orion."

he turned back to the Shopkeeper: "No need to worry, the blade rests safely on a crypt behind bulletproof glass and several armed men. It won't get as much as scratched."

back to the former queen Katerina, Albrecht smiled sly like a fox:

"You don't happen which of the stalls have more... frivolous items? Gems and gold with very little cloth or similar objects? I wouldn't dare ask this man as his daughter is the one making many of the pieces and i wouldn't tarnish her reputation as he would not refuse making such items for Royalty. As Wife of the late King i am sure you know each and every of these vendors by heart, seeing as you where very throughout in your duties."

He glances among the Collection of their current stall, then picks a small Saphire and Silver Amulett, putting it on the counter: "I expect a good prize when i come back later again, take your time and think about a good offer. I will come back alter and hear it."

Jadwiga as the Crown Princess of the Empire of Krimeon (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=890.msg12447#msg12447) meant that it was to represent the interests of the Imperial Family and that of the realm, even if she technically didn’t have any authority whatsoever. Travelling to different countries and getting to know different peoples and cultures was one of the many privileged perks of someone in her position, and with a degree in world politics ensured that she was more than prepared enough to handle such matters to begin with.

Though heading to the Desert Festival felt more like an actual vacation than a true state visit; it was going to be her first time there, but the Crown Princess had heard and seen a lot about this particular Royal Seleucid event and the opportunities which would arise from browsing through the stalls to meeting colleagues of hers she never met before. Jadwiga didn’t mind embarking on this trip alone, as she sometimes preferred to feel independent and release the inner spirit, so to say.

“Ehm...Hello.” Having just disembarked from the limo which brought her to the main tent, Jadwiga felt at first a bit confused as to what to do, waiting for one of the host to welcome her properly alongside a couple of plainclothes bodyguards standing behind here by the entrance. Looking from left to right and vice versa, she really didn’t know anyone who were currently in there, though she did receive a word prior that the Quintelians under King Ferdinand would be in attendance, so at least there was someone there one could socialize closely.

Spotting a mirror, she took a good look of herself and sort of posed: wearing a traditional yet loose and alluring attire native to Royal Seleucid, it felt appropriate and respectful to the hosts to at least show some cultural decency while at the same time adjusting one’s self to the dry and hot climate. Taking a clunk from her water bottle she kept in her bag, it wouldn’t take too long soon for the fun to begin. Jadwiga was actually interested in purchasing a few jewels for the family aside from herself, the Jewels being unmatched compared to elsewhere and naturally one would have taken the opportunity to acquire the finest of the finest, given the opportunity and budget.

“Perhaps I could find something for Napoleon…” she said commenting about her beloved horse back home she usually takes out for a ride into the wide countryside during her spare time.

As they found themselves at Ghulum's store Klara was rather taken a back by vast array of goods avaliable. Lodjains rather enjoyed the finer things in life but this was something else and while she was sure the quality was on par with that of Lodjain craftsman it was seeing so much in one place that made it special. Having inspected the various items the Queen made her way over to Ghulum. "I would like to commission three pieces if I may" She waited for the man to get ready to take notes. "I would like a gold necklace with some blue colours to it, maybe Sapphires? That is for Crown Princess Roksana. I'd also like a pair of matching rings one female and one male. Something low key for the man." She added. Her shopping instructions issued she turned to Næxyn "If I'm being honest I've not really had chance to sit down and adjust to being married. What with our various issues back home, a few visits and the like its hard to keep up with Leopold and Roksana at the best of times. I'd have liked to have used the Festival as a bit of a get away but sadly..." she raised her voice enough so Queen Chyrssa would overhear, "one of my citizens couldn't be trusted and so I must make a mends." She slightly lowered her voice once more, "But more importantly we're here to spend some money yes. So what exactly are you looking for? Presents? A little treat for yourself?" Klara asked in rapid succession.

Leopold was sure he had to make a good impression on Heydar and so was happy to engage in small talk, "Well in my case it was my great-great-great-great-etc-grandfather who snared her, just he never had the son he needed so I just happened to find the right piece of paper and then get lucky that the Queen in this case is rather a nice young lady." he smiled, "Speaking of nice young ladies I believe congratulations are in order for yourself, soon to be married to a new wife. An exciting time yes?" He watched then as the King disappeared off with the Emperor and seemed to be in deep discussion. "Dragan, while our host is away what do you say me, you and Prince "Zadyr here go see if we can sort the new King a wedding gift out." He motioned for the Xaeth royal to join them. "Married life is sometimes difficult. I've a wife half my age, a ball of energy and I share her with another woman." He burst out laughing, "Sounds like the thing of many mens fantasties no doubt. She's a great person but I know its Roksana she loves but I think she's coming around slowly but surely." Leopold seemed pleased with that. "How about you then? Married, girlfriend......both?" he teased. By now they'd reached one of the trainers who Leopold had noted had done well in the last few races. "So sir" he began talking to a man who looked like he was in charge, "I'm King Leopold of Lodja, this here is Prince Zadyr of Xaeth and the sunburnt gent at the end is my Finance Minister Dragan. I'd like to buy a baby camal for His Majesty King Heydar and have you train it for him, an early wedding gift. What do you say?"

Emperor-Admiral Jinduming had quietly strolled through the stalls all day with one of his servants(who carried a large metal case), taking a few looks at the stalls. Not many interested him, trinkets were of no value to him and he found jewelry useless. He paused outside of his own nation's tent, a sturdy tent made of canvas, aluminum plates, and silk. Stepping inside, the first thing he immediately noticed was the dozens of jian, dao, guandao, and qiang neatly sorted along the walls and display shelves, each intricately decorated and engraved. Jinduming took a good look around, then nodded to the dragonaii manning the stall. "All going well?"
"That it has, your highness."
"Good, good. I will be back later. Dragons watch over you."
"And you, sir."

Jinduming had originally come along to mingle with the other leaders but thought better of it only after the aircraft had landed. As it would be rude to leave when they had only arrived, he decided that he would wander around until the event concluded. Let Faneris decide my fate, he had concluded.

Stepping out of the tent, Jinduming continued his aimless wandering, eventually making his way to a stall selling alcohol and proceeded to examine them, particularly a bottle of imported Bakkarmayan beer.
Best to go back to the tent and say I'm blackout drunk than deal with other monarchs, he figured, then proceeded to buy a case of assorted wines and beers, placing it in the metal case and ordering his servant to return to the tent. "I'll catch up later, let me see if they have any good tea around here."

He searched for some more time, eventually finding a nice cafe stall selling piping tea. Ordering a cup, he sat down to read his book, crossing a leg, dissocializing.

Ghulum was pleased that Aataxaris was taking an interest in the store he owned, the talking and socialisation that went along with shopping in Royal Seleucid and every store owners favourite topic was their own place. "Everything you see before you was made by my apprentices or artisans, we try and have at least ten apprentices qualify every year now we don't always get that lucky but we try. Occasionally I even put my old fingers to work and make the odd thing but the making is a young persons game and well my fat fingers don't really work so well. As for the business, well it has been in my family for at least 150 years, we're not entirely sure."  He was proud of his business and it had a long history of supplying the Seleucid royals, and now he hoped the foreign royalty of Mundus. It was then that King Lapu asked for something other than "trinkets" a word that slightly offended. "You wish to dial up the excitement?" Ghulum said rhetorcially before turning to his assistant and issuing some instructions. " We do not just make things for the body, no we also make things fit for a King's Palace." As if on cue a man came in carrying a Falcon (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d6/4e/b0/d64eb02e737c94d0f8cd77306bb00a45.jpg) covered in various gems and jewels, it was life size and clearly weighed a significant amount. "These on the other hand are something we are working on for King Heydar's new wife on her wedding day, lets just say you are getting a sneak peak."  encassed (https://i1.wp.com/hourstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Passion-Diamond-Shoes.jpg?fit=800%2C460&ssl=1) in a cut glass case sat a pair of shoes, golden and covered in diamonds. "Each shoe is made from real gold and 236 diamonds have been used." He explained, "We're very proud of these and excited for the wedding day to see them adorn our future Queen."

Meanwhile Katerina had taken Albrecht off to find another stall, "It sounds like your young Emperor has had quiet a time of it from what you say, I'm rather pleased to hear that in some small way a piece of our nation is now a part of your history. I think it is little things like that which help two nations begin to form bonds. " She smiled as they walked between stalls, each stall holder coming out to great them. "Now I hope you're not offended, I just think as perhaps a nation with a young leader you may also be a nation to perhaps give youth a chance." She made a sharp right turn and arrived at a small tent, only half the size of those around it. A startled man no older than mid twenties quickly darted back into the tent before reappearing. "Queen Mother" he bowed and then held aside the tent flap. "Rashid" she bowed. "The young man here is a new businessman, second year in the business he was at one time the apprentice of Ghulum but having done well for himself he started his own company and now is working his way up in the world."

"With many thanks to the local Temple" Rashid said nervously, "They tend to prefer to buy their goods from those of us who are newly qualified. It helps us get a foot in the door so to speak." He had a small table set up, only a few pieces of fresh fruit and a flask of brandy sat there. "How may I be of service?" he asked.

King Leopold  had taken Georgious a little by surprise, he had been busy discussing with his associates the results of the previous race. "Your Majesty" he bowed and then extended a hand. "So you wish to buy a camal? We don't get many people asking that from overseas but as everything at this festival is for sale why not. We can find a little baby camel and train it for you, make it a big strong champion, or we can sell you one already fully grown. Personally I prefer the excitement of making a champion from scratch but a gift for a King, well you may want a champion already. What would you prefer?" He asked.

With most people out at the festival grounds it fell to  Jahangir Michaelakis to welcome Princess Jagwiga. He was the Minister for Foreign Affairs through the good fortune of having been a former member of the Air Force with King Heydar. This was the first time he'd had official duties and he was looking forward to them. "Your Royal Highness" he greeted her as she entered the palace. "I am sorry to say that most people have headed out to explore, I'd be happy to have our guardsman track down Queen Chyrssa or King Leopold, I believe Chryssa is out and about in the stalls while the King is over at the camel racing. I'm afraid your only other option is to settle for me." He explained.

Louis had found his way into the company of Firdaus Hussain, the Home Affairs Minister. "Please find our guests from Nemerie some ice water and some snacks." He'd found a place on the Palace walls where they could oversee the festival grounds. "You must accept my apologise my staff are still pretty new, I've been in the job only a few weeks and while my people are all ex-military and as such very efficent they like me are not used to political intrigue. All I was told was that you wished to speak with someone regarding a project of some kind?" He thanked the servants who brought a jug of ice water and various slices of exotic fruits arranged on a tray the centre of which was a pink jelly like substance "Seleucid Delight"[1] Firdaus explained as he poured some water before pausing with the glass half full, "Or pehaps something harder?" he asked.

OOC- If I've missed you out my apologise just give me a yell via PM on Discord or something.

Letting Michaelakis kiss her hand, an alluring smile revealed itself on her face as the Foreign Minister told her about the circumstances regarding the company she was going to be content with. "None taken Minister Michaelakis, I've arrived quite late to the 'party' so to say and this is the brunt of the consequences for not showing up in time." Jadwiga giggled as she let her arm slide under his for him to safely escort and show her around the establishment. "You may pursue after their Majesties as to whom I would naturally like to meet, but for now I wouldn't mind hanging out with His Excellency." Her bodyguards kept themselves within a visible yet respectable distance as the couple made their way through the tent.

"So my dear good Sir, would it be possible to show me where the bazaar's located, you see I would like to acquire the finest jewelry and other goodies like those Seleucid Delights for my family, which is why I've primarily come here for, and for my horse back home in Krimeon. Oh I know we're not supposed to spoil our pets as if they were little children, but Napoleon as you may Napoleon and I stand very close, so of course he should have the best of the best." she chuckled as those words were spelled out, as the thought of her finally being in the Desert Festival wasn't still comprehensible. "Although I wouldn't mind heading over to the camel racing, it would be fun I believe to see it in person as it's quite...how should I put in...exotic I suppose? Well for someone like me coming from Krimeon where the horse among the most reputable and honored animals we like to call friends, if Krimeonite history is known among your circle that is, Minister Michaelakis."

"A fresh breed of Stallion and a Camel would suffice as well…" Jadwiga said revealing bits of the Imperial Krimeonite shopping list which meant quite a huge budget; at least it came out the Poniatowski-Esterházy's pocket money and not necessarily making the tax payers foot for the bill. Never forgetting the other priorities, Jadwiga had to also show more of her side dealing with statesmanship. "So, would you mind telling more about yourself Minister? I know what's expected of being the head of a Foreign Ministry, but I'm curious as to if there's more to the character behind it, so to say. If you wouldn't mind of course my good Sir." she asked out of eagerness curosity.

"Also, I've heard about the planned reforms going to be implemented by His Majesty, that sounds quite positive no?"

"Well, we had our own Fauxpas with the Pope during the coronation." Albrecht gave a smile as they went to the new stall:

"Let's just say trying to gift a christian Saints iconry to someone who just was kidnapped by radical Christians? Not a good idea."

Strolling through he shrugged: "I still think things between us could have been easier, but timing through a wrench in between. We swore ourselves to be adopted into an  Iwi through my father, which will always be an issue standing between our nations for the foreseeable future. But as for King Heydar? I hope he is ready for me dropping the diplomatic choice of words once we get to talk between four eyes. I believe your Step Son has a once in a lifetime chance at his hand, to leave a mark on history beyond his father, and he's in danger of squandering it."

As they reached the stall, Albrecht's lips formed a grin so wide it almost burst his face off: "Quite the choice. I think this is perfect, a young man like him might have the mindset i need for what i want."

Albrecht took his seat, smiling: "I only think you shouldn't tell the Temple of what i desire. You see, Rashid. We Imperials in Uburzis do have a bit of a state coffer. And i want to use some of my allowance to have a Piece made of pure decadence and desire. Now tell me, imagine things like a jewel encrusted piece of underwear. Just in case, preferable easily adaptable in size. Whoever this is for might get out of shape but keep his treasure functional after all. Well, let's be real here. Underwear might be too much said as the idea is really that it would barely conceal much, but rather ensures it shines. Oh, and we are talking a piece for the male body."

Ooc: It’s really late here, I hope I didn't mess anything or forgotten about something. If I did, pm on the forum or Discord.

@Lady Amaya:

“I understand” answered Thanasis in regards to the marriage issue. “Well, I know at least two individuals in Tamora that I believe would be a good fit for her. One is the son of a noble, a duke and the other a rich businessman who owns a local bank. Both are young, Christian and that means they are monogamous, they also have good reputations in the federated kingdom of Attica(ooc: one of the component kingdoms of Tamora).

"I also have a good friend here in Royal Seleucid, also a duke that has a young son who he wants to marry. He would of course be Anahitaist and therefore polygamous but I was sure that won’t be much of a problem. Royal Seleucid is famous for their openness in these aspects, after all King Akakois himself had a Lodjan wife which he treated lavishly. “

“Of course this is not something that can be agreed on the spot but I would like for us to keep in touch and perhaps I could be of use to YRH on this matter in the future.”

“Since YRH has mentioned Liinaw (ooc: it not clear exactly if the Tauradelian prince actually did or if that text was entirely about his thoughts on the matter. In case he didn’t ignore that reference ) I have to say I am intrigued by that kingdom and I would appreciate if you could get me in touch with someone close to the oil and gas industry there or any of the nobles there that are perhaps interested in a foreign marriage for their daughters. “

Thanasis figured that Rolron as the younger brother of the crown prince would have many suitors for his daughter with some probably trying their luck at this very festival so he figured that he should use this opportunity to try and get some recommendations for key people in Liinaw which seem like a region of Tauredalia which was closer to the social mores of Tamora.

Not wanting to take much of the time of the Tauradelian prince since he knew he was a busy man, he waited for him to reply and see if he had some questions of his own before paying the shopkeeper for the jewels and getting ready to leave the shop provided the Tauradelian prince did not want to engage in the conversation by approaching some other subject.

@Dave:

Abbas smiled seeing that the issue of Princess Thekla’s conversion to Manism could be overcome:

“My friend, you are right to say that you can expect us to come to your defense even as things are right now. This marriage doesn’t add anything to that, what is does it is make things permanent. Jamshid, my son that will eventually succeed me, has been prepared to take the throne from a young age and will continue to be prepared until I am no longer and he takes my place. But no matter how much preparation is done, each man is different and has his own plans and ideas. As a new king I think you understand this.  With this marriage I am making sure that the Safavid - Soter relation will only improve for generations to come. "

"As far the monetary matters are concerned, I shall reduce the price of the boats by two hundred million as suggested. As for the special gift of the guardian of princess Thekla I think I have something that will fit my friend, the king of Royal Seleucid. The city of Volos in surrounded by the dukedom* of Markazi, a lot of people have moved in this province since it’s close to Volos and they can easily commute. It’s also time for Markazi to be split in two. So if you agree, then you will be duke of the newly created South Markazi. It’s an area of approx. 2 thousand square miles and has a around 1.5 mil inhabitants. Now in Tamora the duke of a region is the government of that region, the people will be paying taxes to you if they live in the unincorporated areas or the towns and small cities will be paying them to you for those that incorporated. What in other countries is called public or state property will belong to you as duke: forests, agricultural land etc. Furthermore, while a lot of the money you raise in taxes will have to be spent on the running of the government, tradition says that 10%  belong to the noble to do as he pleases. So you will have plenty of space to build anything you want, a reasonable income to build it and one and a half million people to govern so you can learn more about us.” Abbas laughed at the last part” As for the major religious site lacking in the federated kingdom of West Seleucid that is something that has bothered the people there for some time. Of course there are many temples of the Anahitaism faith since people in Tamora are free to practice their religion as they please but in West Seleucid there is a strong yearning for a major religious site for Anahitaists like the Anahita Shrine of Ipus or the Imam Ali Mosque in Altai or the Mausoleum of Alya (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JoyGmSgeJk72_6rojB43nCgGOfBE69c_up9fp3FbHj4/edit#gid=0) in my Enclave. Why haven’t the members of the Anahitaist community in West Seleucid managed to have such a major religious site on the ground of West Seleucid remains a religious matter and I do not interfere in such matters, suffice to say that if you as an Anahitaist can handle the religious impediments, the title of duke of South Markazi will provide you with enough available land and money to build it. And since the lands that come with the title are just South of Volos the whole city and beyond will flock to the site should you build it. Please tell me if my proposal is worthy of the guardian of Prince Thekla.”

“There is one more issue I have to talk about. You know that I place in you the same trust I placed in your father and that I have nothing but the highest esteem for the Soter family and each of its members. Also, as Emperor of Tamora I rule over kingdoms of many faiths with different customs, I understand some people react differently and with more leniency than we Manists would do in similar circumstances. Princess Thekla would have to learn and follow our customs and our ways, naturally we understand that it will take a while for her to understand things and until she does some rules will inevitably be broken because of habit or not knowing them. We are also aware that she has a responsibility to the Soter and we will also understand that. However, there is one thing that we cannot tolerate under any circumstances and that is adultery. I know you have showed much, forgive me for saying this, too much leniency towards the Lodjan wife of HM Akakios but that was your prerogative. However, I ask you as guardian of princess Thekla to explain to her that something like that cannot happen with her and that such an affront will not be forgiven or treated with such understanding as has been the case with the Lodjan adulteress. As I said, we are willing to understand and forgive many mistakes but not something like that.”

*dukedom= assume the equivalent term of Duke in RS has been used. Since it's West Seleucid, it would use the same name for duke as in RS.

Alya followed Chryssa to the tent and she kept a low profile. With them was the Lodjan Queen for which she had little regard for both personal reasons as well as state ones. Alya focused on shopping, she politely answered to the flattery of Ghulam Raif by buying jewelry one after the other. The more he shopkeeper mentioned “great neighbouring empire” the more jewelry she bought.

@Jaws @Libby:

Musaevna was pleased that Sofia agreed to do some shopping together and replied:

“Great then. Alisha what do you say? Are you up for some jewelry shopping?”

As soon as they stopped at the jewelry shop and asked for some jewelry to be shown, Musaevna said:

“How are things in Quintelia? I assume you are more busy than usual lately as minister of foreign affairs now that SANE has taken off and is on the headlines of most newspapers.

Melanie looked at Jared, she wanted to get the box in her possession back to her car as soon as she could, but she was unfamiliar with the festival and although she was fairly certain Rosalie could find a stall somewhere that dealt in what they were looking for, a little local knowledge could be helpful in that regard.

"Well there is one thing." Melanie said "I came here to some extent on business, I'm trying to track down some missing relics from another country that according to my information would have passed through the Midaranye region back in the late fifth early sixth century, do you know of anyone or anywhere that might be able to help with that search?"

OOC: We'll pretend that Rolron mentioned Liinaw out loud since it does serve him.

IC:
Rolron listened to the potential matches and made a mental note to research the candidates at his leisure, especially in regards to the difference in religions. He would prefer a monogamous husband for his wife, if solely for her assured comfort, but he might consider a polygamous partner if he were enormously wealthy. "Thank you, my friend. There is much to consider for my darling daughter's future, but I will keep your offers in mind. We must exchange contact information."

In regards to the Liinawan oil families, Rolron gave him a list of nobles with close ties to the industry, though he could not remember off-hand if any of them were of marriageable age. However, he was certain they would be eager to join forces with Thanasis. "We advocated for OPEN membership, but I'm afraid that we have some small-minded, ah, politicians in our country who did not see the benefit of joining such an organization. Perhaps we could meet officially at a later date and arrange for a campaign that would highlight what OPEN had to offer," he suggested with a smile. He clasped Thanasis' hand in friendship and allowed him to leave with the promise of later business.

After Thanasis departed, Rolron turned back to his daughter and the merchant, eager to see what she had found.

Jahangir Michaelakis was not too comfortable with the touchy feeliness of Jadwiga It was something that wasn't really part of his culture and it seemed a little weak, not something he wanted to be perceived as being and so he was pleased when they were sat down with the coffee table between them. "I am not really sure what the King's reforms will bring yet. They are something never before seen on Mundus, a creation of a new form of democracy that puts the will of the people in the hands of those best positioned to offer guidance. We live in a world where we have seen popular policies being dished out by governments with little worry about the long term, their only concern is the next election. We must therefore put the future of our nation in the hands of those who see long term down the lines. It is an exciting time, people may be resistant to it but we shall make them see that Liquid Geniusocracy is for the good of the nation. We must cast aside the petty issues of today's society and look to build a stable Royal Seleucid. King Heydar is laying the foundations for that and with the oil money we can get flowing in the world will soon be our oyster. As for myself there is truthfully not much to tell. I am just a fortunate Air Force officer who was lucky enough to cross paths with King Heydar and from there we became friends and for some strange reason he believes I am a man capable of helping him run a country and like any officer I follow the orders of those above me and just as how a senior officer commands a man to a place on the battlefield he commanded me to wear this suit rather than a flying one and attend meetings such as this. I do miss the flying but I prefer the catering." He looked at his watch, it was coming up to midday, not really a time to be out in the open, especially for a foreigner. "Perhaps we should go visit some stalls." With that the Minister waved for a pair of guards to come with them and as they exited the Palace they pushed a way through the crowd with their voice, uniforms and as a last resort their physical bulk. Soon they were in the shade of the tents, some stall holders had stretched between the roofs of their tents lengths of bright coloured thin cloth that bathed the makeshift streets below in light of different colours while keeping out the worst of the days heat.  The Minister found a tent, it hold various leather goods hanging outside along with various trinkets. "This is Adnan, he is a fine leather worker" he was also a distant cousin, "I believe if he does not have something for your Napoleon he could well either acquire it or make it. Do you know what you desire?" He asked.

Rashid listened carefully to what Albrecht  was saying and the more the man spoke the more confused the young businessman became. "Excuse me Your Highness" he said in a state of almost disbelief as the man finished speaking, "You are asking if we can make something like diamond encrusted underpants? Bejewelled boxer shorts?" He asked making sure he had understood. "I mean you must imagine this is not something that we keep in stock" he gestured around the tent, "But we pride ourselves on making anything that a client would wish, yet this is a new one." he laughed, "I suspect we could make something similar to some of the female Medallion (https://image.dhgate.com/0x0/f2/albu/g5/M00/AA/2F/rBVaI1lABUGAf_AAAAL0JjI8Z40719.jpg) style tops we make and use a similar technique, or maybe a gold weave introduced to say some silk?" he made various suggestions, "We would naturally need to know the size required?" He asked.

Jared meanwhile was glad to have handed the box over to Melanie  he didn't want to be known as the guy with the chopped off head and it was far better it be out of his store, it was sure to bring bad luck having something so barbaric in his hands. "If you are looking for antiquities then there are two options. Go and see Jaleel, he owns the store at the far end of this row, blue tent and has a handful of Helusite swords hanging up. He is a Cultist himself so be careful. The other option is that the item has perhaps headed onto the black market. A man with connections there is Albanus Ares, he's not a Seleucid but he does have a fair few connections and I know he has a few items in his residence that are.....perhaps questionable." The man lowered his voice carefully.

Firdaus believed Prince Louis was rather more occupied with apparent flirting with his bodyguard. That was strange enough, a female in charge of protection, in Seleucid women only served in the military in a handful of roles, nurses mainly and they certainly never rose this high in the ranks. "Ah the Palm project" the Minister knew it well as it had been front page news for several weeks both in regards to the former ownership of the Stasiuk family and then how King Heydar had handed part of it to a Tamoran for a rather nice price. "Honesty in business is always important, a buyer must know exactly what he is getting shouldn't he?" the man poured himself more water. "The project is one that was designed by a Lodjain but its construction was 100% Seleucid, now should you wish to tap into that projects know how I am sure that we can make such a thing happen, after all we have several thousand experts now in creating and landscaping artificial islands. I am sure a deal could be reached where such people can be made available for your project. For the right price for sure. Do you have a price in mind, a budget to stick to or is this merely a sounding out process?"

Heydar tried hard to supress a smile as Emperor Abbas gave in to the initial offer and made a rather inflated offering in return, it lacked the sport of negotiations the Seleucid enjoyed around these occasions, clearly despite everything that kept the two nations close their idea of haggling wasn't one of them. "I will be honoured to accept your offer" Heydar said only stopping grinning when the Emperor brought up the Lodjain connection. "Emperor Abbas" Heydar said formerly, " Despite my own personal feelings towards that Oksana bitch the truth is she had a place in my fathers heart. In much the same way as I did not put down my father's hunting dogs, his falcons or his beloved carp in the Palace pool for the same reason I could not harm something he loved, no matter how misguided that love was. Imagine my father looking down on me seeing me mistreating a woman he gave an oath to the Gods towards. What would he think of his son? Had his heart not broken again knowing what my brother had done?" He shook his head but now was the point that was most important to him. "As for my sisters virtues I find it rather insulting you feel the need to compare her to a Lodjain slut. We all know the Lodjains place sexual gratification as a virtue and rut like dogs. To feel that you must remind me that my sister must not act this way.......Had I not just given my word to accept your offer I would surely be tempted to raise it now." he added his face looking stern. "I will say this. My sister is a woman well beyond the age at which she would have been married if she had been my daughter. Yet in all her years she has ever been a lady of great dignity in all things and your son will be fortunate to have her in his life if even for ten minutes." Heydar returned to a jovial smile, "It would seem then that we are to be family and so these insults must be forgotten, arguing over something that will never happen is a waste of everyone's time. Now as a show of the good faith between us I have something to ask having had your offer to become Duke of South Markazi. As you know I am to have a wedding myself soon and seeing as I intend to build a temple of sorts in my new Dukedom I would like your permission to grant my new wife the title of Duchess, I am unsure whether I could also name Chyrssa as such but she has enough titles while my new wife has none yet. Now if that is permitted we have in our faith a ceremony to mark the engagement of a man and woman, I'd like that to take place on the site where the Temple will be built. Is that possible?" he asked.

Sat in the stands watching the camel racing was Shiekh Kaveh Saab (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/io_practice/rs-people-t227.html#p422) who was frustratingly throwing a losing betting slip to the floor. "I am sure that creature only had three legs" he said to his sons sat either side of him. Naqi (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/io_practice/rs-people-t227.html#p423) was his heir and eldest son and he merely laughed while neatly folding his own losing slip before ripping it in half and placing it in the bin a little in front of them. The Shiekh's youngest son Gadwaat (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/io_practice/rs-people-t227.html#p424) just chuckled.

"You know Father if I was Naqi I'd be worried, you'll have gambled his inheritance away before we finish today." He hadn't bet himself. He found it kind of frivolous, money was a tool and you didn't take gambles with your tools. A workman didn't risk losing his livlihood and while taking risks was an understandable part of business they were not wild leaps of faith such as his father's gambling "technique" of betting on the camel that looked like it had the biggest thighs. Perhaps it was the curse of being the youngest son, Gadwaat knew he would inherit nothing other than the good will of his elder siblings and so was always a little more cautious with money. Even back at University he would often not squander his money in the same way his wealthy classmates and even his twin sister would. Yes he was a nobleman and spent enough so everyone knew his station in life but he didn't have the flash car his friends did, instead preferring a vintage motor bike he'd found in a scrap heap and restored lovingly over his holidays. His father had even helped him, as to had Naqi, both men who loved messing about with mechanical objects and while it had cost a fraction of the price of a new superbike his father had offered to buy him he felt the pride that this was something he had built largely himself. It was a regular joke among the Saab men, they were the nobles with the calloused hands, men who liked to build and tinker. While the older generation like Kevah and his eldest sons had done so mechanically Gadwaat was doing so with modern techniques such as DNA and the human body. "What do you think they are talking about?" Gadwaat motioned over towards where the King and Emperor were talking. He had an interest in politics and saw Heydar as a hope for better for Seleucid, he was a man after all who had immediately sought to cast out the Lodjain influences and may stand a chance of patching some older wounds between the nations two faiths, something that would end the necessary evil of the Cenneg military in the South West.

"Go ask" Naqi teased his little brother. He had to stand up and stretch his legs, he was a tall man for a Seleucid and the grandstand didn't always have the best leg room. He had a walk down towards the betting stand and placed a bet on the next race before returning with some bottles of water for his brother and father. "It appears the Lodjains are buying a camel" he reported the gossip he'd heard. "Maybe that bitch Oksana is remarrying" the trio laughed as they settled to watch the next race and found themselves soon within a group of other nobles keen to watch the race in the company of Kaveh who was perhaps one of the most significant Shiekh's in the Kingdom. Despite his powers of nobility the power of the seemingly large camel thighs once more let him down and amid the laughter of his sons and friends another betting slip was thrown to the sands.

"T'was interesting to hear and thanks for sharing your inputs, Minister Michaelakis. I can only hope for the very best for Royal Seleucid and its people. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions if you're curious enough." she said, noticing how much the former Air Force officer kept up his appearance and demeanor with a foreigner such as herself, which was understandable enough and didn't take much offense to the lack of reaffirmation on his part, considering it was part of the diplomatic protocol and all. "Well then, I suppose we can head over to the stalls, getting quite hot when it's midday. Just a reminder that my shopping list is quite extensive and varied." Jadwiga chuckled as Jahangir took a look at his watch, before accompanying him to the stalls alongside both sets of bodyguards making sure that their path remained clear.

"A privilege and pleasure to meet you master Adnan, from what I can see these fine works of leathery art are all exquisite and of great care as well as quality." she initially greeted shaking his hand, witnessing the myriad of trinkets that the tanner had on available offer. "As for my beloved Napoleon, I would like to acquire the finest saddle you currently posesses, as well as its accessories such as a saddle bag." Jadwiga couldn't wait setting her eyes and hands on one of these.

@Lady Amaya: Thanasis was very pleased that he got from Rolron  some contacts close to the oil industry and that he saw openness for a potential OPEN membership. He especially liked the idea of an OPEN tour and agreed to it enthusiastically.  Thanasis cared a lot about the oil industry and he was determined to make it happen. He would keep in contact with Rolron and see to it that his personal assistant tries to set up meetings with the Liinawan oil families.

@Libby: Thanasis (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=862.msg10954#msg10954) left the tent satisfied with what he had achieved and proceeded to go through others tents and try his luck to see if he could meet other important people. It didn’t take long until he entered one of the tents and the Simon, Achilles and Rita trio drew his attention. It was clear from a mile away that they weren’t from Midaranye and he was eventually able to determine that at least the elder man was Simon Fremen of the famous Freman family. Now Thanasis was far from an expert of the Bene Gesserit but he knew two things about them, one that they had money and connections and two: that dealing with them halal (permissible) as they say in Tamora. Thanasis didn’t know exactly just how rich Simon Fremen himself was but he had to know people with money so he decided to try and sell his pet project, the hydro dam (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=1324.0) his company was building in Zimalia:

He proceeded to first apologize for interrupting their shopping spree and then continued to politely present himself:

“ My name is Thanasis Polakis, I am the VP of OPEN and I am from neighboring Tamora.  How are you enjoying the festival?”

Thanasis greeted the three of them. He couldn’t help but wonder if Rita was one of those women bodyguards that the BG were so famous of having and which seemed so weird to Thanasis and most Tamorans. However, this was an international festival and weirdness was all over: women bodyguards, princesses that had two husbands and to top it all off, the were Lodjans present.

“I have to say I have watched a lot news on TINS (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=845.0) about the developments happing in Kaitaine and I pleased to see your government is gaining ground each day.” Which was true, the BG and the Theocracy was often featured on TINS and other Tamoran stations.

After giving the three a chance to reply he proceeded:

“I apologize for my bluntness but I just had a meeting canceled with one law firm that had a global presence on Mundus . You wouldn’t happen to know any law firm that could help me promote an investment opportunity I have in Zimalia? I am looking for international investors and going through a law firm is much easier since there is a lot of hassle with different tax systems, laws etc. “

@Dave:
Abbas didn’t not feel intimidated by Heydar’s annoyance with the request that princess Thekla should be warned that adultery is heavily punished in Tamora. As far as he was concerned it needed to be said so in case the princess did commit the unthinkable the fallout that would ensure would not take the Soters by surprise.

As Heydar moved on and asked about the naming his second wife as duchess and holding the ceremony of engagement on the site that the temple will be built, Abbas faked concerned and kept silence for a couple of seconds before replying:

“On one condition: that me and my First Wife can attend as simple observers the ceremony between you and the soon to be Duchess of South Markazi” as he said that he smiled showing that there were no hard feelings over Haydar’s comments. He added the phrase “simple observers” not just out of modesty but because taking an active role in a non Manist ceremony was something that neither him nor his wife would agree to do. He also wanted to attend not just out of simple flattery but as to “force” Haydar to attend the wedding of Princess Thekla when the time came.

“Very well then, it would seem that history has been made today. There is a lot of work ahead not only with the wedding but also the details that will have to iron out between our governments in regards to the construction of the ships. I do not want to keep you any longer, friend as the other guests, especially the Lodjans, might think we are conspiring against them.” He said joking.

In other countries details between governments might have meant necessary approvals but in Tamora and Royal Seleucid, governments simply executed the commands of their sovereigns.

After waiting for Haydar to reply and see if he had other questions, Abbas left the room and returned to the where the camel race was taking place and where most of the guests where. For the moment he didn’t seem interested in approaching anyone and simply pondered at the deal he had made. The first hurdle, getting Heydar to agree. had been overcome though perhaps the price paid might be considered too high for some. Now a new hurdle would need to be addressed, the fallout that such a marriage would mean back home but he was confident that he will overcome that too. He took his phone out and sent a simple message in Parthian to his first wife, Alya: “It is done” informing her that the deal went through. He knew that just as him Alya couldn’t care less about the price involved.

Næxyn listened patiently to Queen Klara, nodding as she mentioned the scandal with Oksana. It was good that the Lodjains recognized such behavior as unacceptable, but it was a pity that a girl so young had to deal with the fallout of such a thing. "Ah, well that is the Sovereign's Curse. I must admit that in some ways I am blessed to have been a second daughter; ruling a nation is as much a burden as a privilege," Næxyn said with a smile, "As to why I am here... Well, no proper Xæthoon woman would attend such a festival and not buy something for herself. Though I am looking for a gift for my great niece's birthday come September." Then the older Princess lowered her voice, "And, if I am to tell the truth, I thought perhaps it best to socialize with the ruling class of Royal Seleucid and Tamora. We haven't had the best of relations in modern history, and things have chilled even further since my great niece ascended to the throne."

---

"It certainly is a... different married life than what one would find in Xæth," Prince Zadyr said to Leopold, even as he thought about the fact that aside from the other spouse being a woman, it truly wasn't all that different. Though the Prince stiffened a bit at the King's 'Married, girlfriend... both?' joke, but he forced himself to respond with a laugh anyway, "I am married. Have been to Princess Næxyn, Her Imperial Majesty's great aunt, for nearly three decades now."

Zadyr inwardly winced as Leopold introduced him as a Prince of Xæth; he was Prince of Vaalirn, one of the small Queendoms in the north of the Most Serene and Celestial Empire, but he wasn't about to publicly embarrass a foreign King consort by pointing the mistake out in front of others.

---

"A century and a half is quite impressive to have stayed in the same business so long; my family has been in the gem business for only slightly loner ourselves," Aataxaris said to Ghulum with a smile, "Although we Adaras are in the considerably dirtier business of dredging the stones up from the ground, as opposed to molding them into art." And as Ghulum decided to show off for King Lapu Aataxaris was unable to conceal with amazement, "I do have to admit Mr. Ghulum, the artisans you have working under you truly are masters of their craft. Or at the very least well on the path to mastery."

Adnan rubbed his beard for a moment or two. "Your Highness we have a slight issue with that request." he addressed Jadwiga . "You see us Seleucid are not massively familiar with horses, they are not as suited to the desert here as the camel. Now had you arrived asking for beautiful saddle for a camel then that would have been little issue I could have sent you leaving here with majestic goods, however a horse saddle is a little more challenging." He turned and yelled to a young boy who arrived struggling to carry a saddle made of dark brown leather. It was monogrammed in one corner with gold and its fixtures shone in silver and gold. The stitching was even done in gold. "That is for a customer of mine as a reward for one of his trainers over at the camel racing. We can make something similar for you by changing the design slightly. Maybe embossing your families coat of arms into the leather maybe?" He suggested his designers mind beginning to run wild.

Ghulum was pleased with Aataxaris' words. "150 years is not as long as some but I think it gives us a very solid start."Perhaps we can get down to discussing what we can put these artisans to work making for you. Perhaps something that screams Xaeth, some kind of animal statute, a piece of jewellrey for that special person in your life? Maybe even something as a treat for yourself, I mean if royals can't indulge themselves as a reward for all the work guiding their nation then who can." He was keen to make a sale, the more high profile customers he could claim to have served the higher his reputation in his homeland, and hopefully aboard.

Heydar was pleased with how things had gone, a new title, some work for the dockyards and his singleton sister arranged for a good marriage. All in all even if the festival ended now it had been a good day so far. He made his way back towards those enjoying the racing, it would be time for lunch soon and he could see a black SUV had arrived a sure signal that sustenance was on its way. He stood with his guests track side watching a race before noticing that his step-Mother Queen Yanna was lurking as though looking for someone. Servants were busy setting up a table and spreading thick white linen table clothes and putting out a spread of food, various salads, pastries, triangular sandwiches and other delicacies. "Step-Mother" he smiled and raised a hand so Yanna could see him. She strode over and he pulled her to one side. "I have some good news I have just concluded a negotiation for Thelka's marriage."

Yanna's face dropped, she wasn't aware that Heydar was even in negotiations, "With whom, you never asked me." She protested.

"Lower your tone" Heydar hissed, "I am King and if I want Thelka to marry a donkey breeder she will do so with a smile on her face." Yanna looked nervously at the sand. "Luckily you know I love my sister and I wouldn't dream of marrying her to just anyone. She is to be a Princess of two worlds, she will marry Prince Jamshid of Tamora and bring out two Kingdoms even closer together." There was a visible relaxation in Yanna's body language, it was a fantastic marriage and Yanna knew it was one that was a wise political one too, having heard the news it was hard to be upset. "I think you should go and thank the Emperor for what he is doing for your daughter." Yanna nodded.

"But first I have something for you." She turned and motioned towards the SUV, a sunglass wearing guardsman opened the doors. A young woman wearing a white pair of trousers and lightweight white jacket stepped out and thanked the guardsman before striding down the hill towards them. "I believe you should meet your future wife away from the prying eyes of the media." The King had kept the press away from the camels knowing it was where he intended to relax. "Heydar, may I present Miss Haniyah Michelakis" she took hold of the girls hand as Haniyah went down onto two knees in front of Heydar, her eyes at the ground.

Heydar was impressed. He'd seen pictures of her in the media and knew she was beautiful, but in person her beauty was even more apparent, Chyrssa had made a good match for him and he was pleased so far. "Please" he offered a hand and helped her up. "I am delighted to meet you" he said as he took her hand and lead her back towards the others. "Gentleman it seems that while my luck on the track has deserted me I am the luckiest man on Mundus. This lady is the future Queen of Royal Seleucid, Haniyah." he said proudly. "In a few weeks time we shall marry, but not before visiting my new Dukedom in Tamora. I am proud to say myself and Seleucids friend Emperor Abbas have concluded negotiations for Princess Thelka to marry Prince Jamshaid. A great day bringing two nations closer than ever." He waited for his new wife to say hello to everyone before inviting them up for lunch. Heydar sat next to his future wife sharing conversation with her in quiet whispers trying to enjoy some private moment with her while in full view of the world.

Yanna was left to act as host as they sat on the comfortable folding chairs that had been erected for the luncheon. She'd left word that others over in the main festival grounds should come and join them if they wished and she revelled in pouring drinks, suggesting dishes and leading the conversation.

Melanie thanked Jared and then headed back to where she'd parked her car (https://www.iliketowastemytime.com/sites/default/files/conquest_knight_xv_2012_getaway_zombie_vehicle8.jpg), it was her vehicle of choice for archaeological expeditions and given where she'd expected to be heading after this festival it was suitable to have the car there, but then she'd been handed that box by Jared, she put it in the back of the car and locked it before leaning against the side of the vehicle.

"You look like you need a pick me up." Rosalie said coming over with some bags "Want me to help?"
"I wish." Melanie said
"So what's up?" Rosalie asked
"That thing I went and picked up" Melanie said "It's complicated."
"How complicated?" Rosalie asked
"Huge." Melanie said, she glanced at the bags "Anything good?"
"Some books, a small painting and something for your birthday." Rosalie said
"Ok." Melanie said, knowing better than to ask anything further "There's one more person I want to talk to, see if we can drum up any leads from him."
"Who?" Rosalie asked
"He's called Jaleel and he's a Cultist." Melanie said
"You shouldn't have any problem then." Rosalie said

Melanie smiled and walked back towards the festival tents, heading for Jaleel's while also mentally making plans for what she'd have to do next.

"May I?" she asked wanting to take a closer look at the camel saddle. It didn't take too long for a smile to form itself on the mouth, as Jadwiga felt the leathery material and the weight didn't bother her at all, touching it at different corners and angles to have a feel for it and whether it would be good to sit on or not: it certainly didn't disappoint from the looks of it. "I have to say the quality of this leather is extradordinary my good Minister, and I wouldn't mind having the family coat of arms embossed though it would be great to add our words as well, 'Veritas Vincit'." she told him, which meant 'Truth Prevails' in Latin.

Already starting to feel that a bit of rest might do for the moment before proceeding on with the shopping spree, a sense of relief and gratitude came about as soon as travelling words reached her ear about celebrating marriage announcements. "I suppose Minister Michaelakis that I could join the royals for quick bite and a lovely chat? The delicacies, jewelry and that potential camel can wait, I'm sure there's still time for that unless you insist otherwise." With that said, she made her way to the Seleucid King and the future Queen, wondering about the newer events that would suddenly pop up.

"Greetings...I heard that congratulations are in right order this time around?" she said.

Jaleel's tent wasn't really as slickly laid out as the majority of those around the site. It was a maze of stacked boxes, piles of cloth and pieces of what looked like junk. To Jaleel though it was like a wondrous maze of history. He knew where every single item was in the haphazard looking chaos. It had taken him close to a decade to amass items as numerous as this and while he was happy to see the items come and go he was always trying to maintain his level of stock. He was merrily categorising a recently acquired wooden box full of rare coins when he heard he flap open and a woman walked in. "Hello Miss" he said as he put the lid down on his box leaving three stacks of coins in front of him. "Welcome to my emporium" he said sweeping his hands around the seemingly random piles of mess that cluttered every corner of the tent.

Back over at the camel racing Heydar was enjoying getting to know his wife to be. He thanked Jadwiga, the recent arrival, for her best wishes. He looked around the table, there were representatives from several nations who had minimal dealings with the Royal Seleucid people before and this was ideal. "I must admit that I have ulterior motives for inviting the international community here this year beyond enjoying your company. You see this year marks our third anniversary of one of the darkest days in our nations history. My father lost control of the nation for roughly a week as military traitors sought to rid our nation of our Cult of Helus worshipping minority. Soon my sisters, nephews and nieces found themselves the......guests....of an East Moreland Special Forces team as troops from Achkaerin and East Moreland began evacuations of the Cultists. Some 250,000 were sadly murdered. The only way to get the Morelanders and Achkaerin forces out and my family back was to allow the Cennegslaig military to effectively assume a peacekeeping role in the Cultist areas. Its a situation that we are ashamed of but we can not erase, but things have changed. My father is gone and I am determined that such matters shall not happen again." He topped up everyone's wine.

"With that in mind I have a favour to ask, perhaps you would consider it a wedding present to me." He gripped his future wife's hand warmly. " You see I believe there is no need for the Cenneg to be here now and the terms of our agreement state should the Cenneg military leader be convinced, along with a Cultist representative that the region is safe then the Cenneg can return to their homeland. I would like to invite each of you to send a representative or a team to go and tour the Protectorate and report to the Cenneg military what an independent observer believes. Additionally if any of you have a Cultist Priestess you wish to send over as part of this team it would be greatly appreciated." He sat back waiting to hear people's responses.

Albrecht (https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=149.msg548#msg548) took his time discussing with Rashid - this was not to be rushed:

"I think the medallion is a wonderful idea. Using titanium or gold chains would allow us to change size if necessary."

Albrecht fingers whisked through empty air, painting an imaginary shape for the item: "I can see this working with or without additional underwear."

He took a look around the tent: "I am sure you are more than capable to achieve such task. Maybe imagine it more like a girdle? that could make the crafting process easier while allowing more variables in size."

Albrecht leaned back, starring into an unknown distance as the image shaped in his mind, slowly but steady his smile widened as his eyes narrowed. He slightly bit his lower lip before snapping back to the present location:

"I don't think diamonds would be the best choice here though, if we go with gold we need some stones that can shine against it, though nothing to cheap. Maybe emeralds?" he tilted his head: "Though Jade might work as well."

He took a glance at Katrina: "You really brought us to the right stall, your Highness."

Jadwiga couldn't believe what she'd just heard from Heydar's mouth and simply shook her head. Even if she wasn't terribly surprised, she always desired that festivities would be spared the intrigues of politics and scheeming. In the end, it was clearly a waste of time to entertain the notions of this wanna-be King and clearly planned to head back into the market area. The Iwi may have not been perfect, but the Crown Princess considered them to be much more honorable in any case. "I'm sure His Majesty is more than aware enough that unlike in your country, the Imperial Family's power has been entirely delegated to the People and it's through them I represent their interests and the country's, thus there's no authority found within myself to do such as thing."

Finishing her drink, Jadwiga soon found herself back in Jaleel's tent and wished to continue the shopping spree. "So Jaleel, mind taking me through your finest wares...which ones would you recommend I bring home as souvenirs?"

Næxyn and Aataxaris were busy in Ghulum's tent when they received word that they should reconvene with King Heydar. Aataxaris found it a pity; he felt in his element here speaking of gems and jewelry and business. It was a shame to leave and return to the world of politics and royalty; he might have married an Imperial Princess but he had always done what he could to stay as uninvolved in politics as he could. Aataxaris did plan on returning here after they were finished, but for the moment the pair bid farewell and made their way to King Heydar. Zadyr was already seated when they arrive and they quickly made their way to seat themselves beside him, with Næxyn in the middle and flanked by each of her husbands. There was a short back and forth in Xæthoon as they caught each other up to speed before Prince Næxyn smiled and congratulated Heydar on his upcoming marriage. But once again she had to marvel inside at the backwardness of it all. Monogamy? Monogamy she could understand in a way. But a man with several wives? All it did was allow a man to indulge in his baser urges, which was the exact opposite of what most men needed.

Then as Heydar spoke up about his 'ulterior motives', Næxyn chuckled under her breathe. Of course a newly crowned King would have an ulterior motive; most monarchs weren't interested in simply having a nice chat with foreign leadership. And this was a chance for Heydar to truly cement his place on the throne; being forced to allow foreign soldiers to operate with impunity on your soil was a humiliation of the highest degree possible. If Heydar managed to get the Cennegslaig to leave no Seleucid would question him. The Princess wondered if anyone would take him up on his offer, aside from the Tamorans of course. She had no doubt that Abbas would be more than willing despite the futility of it; Næxyn couldn't imagine the Cennegslaig commander caring about the opinion of a Tamoran repesentative.

She looked to her side at both of her husbands, wondering what they were thinking. Zadyr was deep in thought, probably thinking much the same thing as she was if she was to be honest. Meanwhile she had to stifle a chuckle at Aataxaris and how his eyes had practically glazed over. She had no doubt that he just wanted to finish eating and head back to the festival, and she felt for him. But they had just arrived, and it might not be a formal banquet or anything of the like but leaving so soon would still be rude.

"That is quite the request, Your Majesty," Næxyn said diplomatically, "Unfortunately, I am not in quite the position to send anyone myself. However, I would gladly pass the message along to Empress Ælirn." She'd refuse of course, Næxyn thought, one could be friends with the Maori or one could be friends with the Seleucids. And her grand niece had already chosen with whom she wanted to pursue friendship. But Næxyn would still ask.

Melanie smiled at Jaleel and started browsing the tent a little, she had two reasons for doing this firstly that after her little adventure with Jared she needed time to calm down and get her mind back to what she'd came here for, the second reason was because she was impressed with the collection of items in this tent, it had everything it seemed from books to swords, to amulets it all made her smile.

"Quite the collection you have here sir." Melanie said admiring a sword that rested on a stand before keenly reading the spinal covers of a few of the books, she suddenly felt like she was rumaging through an antiques fair rather than a festival in a foreign land, she turned to Jaleel "Sorry I get a little carried away when I come across objects like this, must be the archaeologist part of me. I'm mainly looking for records, transcripts, accounts and artefacts from the fifth century from the Midaranye area, I'm trying to track something down and I'm hoping to find items that can assist me in my search. But that said I'm also an archaeologist and a historian so what have you got in the way of interesting items? I've got a friend's birthday coming up and she's got a fascination with the past same as me."

Heydar was disappointed, first the weakling royals of Krimeon couldn't give him the help he requested, and then the Xeath royals were happy to pass the buck which was something that Heydar suspected was going to be a "no".  The King was convinced that to get the Cenneg to see his point of view they'd need to have a few nations onside and it seemed the King wouldn't be getting that. He hid his disappointment and simply stood up and looked around, "I see." he said. "Well thank you for your consideration now I'm afraid me and my future wife here have family we need to see." He helped Haniyah to her feet and joined by Chyrssa made his way back towards one of the SUV's leaving the others at the race track. "Spineless whores" Heydar mumbled to himself as the vehicle headed back towards the Palace.

Adnan was naturally delighted to see Princess Jadwiga return it would mean a hefty payday. He spent the next half an hour laying out various necklaces, rings, ear-rings and most importantly saddle bags, reigns and even cushions designed for carriages with gold thread stitching. He was more than happy to take as long as required for a sale, after all selling just one or two items would mean the festival was more than worth his time, and he publicity would be even better. He waited for her to make her choice and then naturally the haggling began, a favourite past time of the Seleucid merchants.

Jaleel liked the fact he had a chance to show off his collections. It wasn't very often that many people came into his tent a combination of the haphazard piles and the mans semi eccentric manner. "My dear Lady you have come to the right place every item I poses is interesting, be it rare books from Abydos, some urns from Clyseries, scrolls from old libraries in Vanora I have it all. Now if your looking for an item for a friends birthday you want something that she can see daily no." He casually flipped a pile end over end and lifted a box up and placed it on the table. He carefully slid the lid off to reveal a hand drawn map of Mundus, "This is dated from the 16th Century, made by a member of that strange group called the Horseman of Jekar. See here" he pointed to the little drawings surrounding the nations, creatures of many kinds native to their homeland, it was strange that next to East Moreland where people would have expected to see a Honeybadger a Black Bear stood. "Imagine, a nice frame." he scanned the walls and picked a gold gilded example off a hook and checked it for size. "Then imagine on your friends wall, a living piece of history displayed as a sign of your friendship." He suggested.

Rashid meanwhile was talking pants, golden ones at that. It was a job that he'd not done before but he was sure he could get Albrecht's one completed. "I think we can deliver in maybe two days." Rashid said, they had most of the composite bits and pieces to make the design the way that Albrecht wanted it was just a case of fashioning the package together. "Perhaps if you can tell us where you are staying we can have the item delivered?" he asked happy that a custom piece was once more finding its way to a foreign royal.

Melanie looked at the map Jaleel was suggesting, it was very good and very appropriate considering who it was intended for. She half smiled at the black bear standing on East Moreland, it seemed there was another bond across the Illumic that she hadn't considered before - the East Moreland black bear and then across the channel the Seaforth golden bear. Funny how the world had little intricacies like that. She looked at Jaleel.

"A very impressive piece I'm sure my friend will appreciate it. I'll take it in a frame like that thank you." Melanie said, she watched as Jaleel put the map down and then wandered over to a small bookshelf where she picked up a particularly weighty book bound with black leather she looked at the spine of it "Fifth century iconography, it may have been mainly a ceremonial written language by that point but I'd know it anywhere." she could see there were two others like it "I'd like to take these three books and that box of Vanoran scrolls." she turned back to Jaleel taking a small notebook from her pocket and now writing something, she tore the small page out and handed it to the Seleucid man "My number let me know if you ever come across anything with a mysterious story or something really interesting. By the way my name's Melanie. So how much do I owe you for these items?"

Albrecht smiled: "In my Airship. I doubt you'll be able to Miss that. Though i'm not sure how long i'll be able to stay, i'll have to exchange unpleasantries with your King that both of us probably wish we wouldn't have to talk about the next days."

He leaned back: "Make it Fancy."

Albrecht would then proceed to pick up the other item he had held back earlier, and finish the day. He had to prepare for meeting heydar.

Næxyn was rather disappointed with Heydar. She hadn't know what exactly to expect, but she hadn't expected him to act like a child and storm off. For that was what Næxyn considered it despite how calmly he may have left. He made a request and when foreign royals had the audacity not say bow to his whim and acquiesce, he suddenly had family he needed to see immediately. It was honestly quite sad; he should've at least stayed for a moment longer just to keep up appearances.

"I suppose his majesty doesn't take well to being denied," Prince Zadyr said in their native tongue, deadpan.

"True. A pity that; I guess Seleucid hospitality only extends to those who lick your boots," Næxyn shrugged, then looked over at her other husband, who was simply picking at his food.

"Dearest wife, now that our host has taken his leave I think I'm going to do the same. There's still an entire festival out there, after all," Aataxaris said, smiling. Næxyn nodded, bidding him goodbye for the moment. She was thinking about the day so far, and it hadn't gone quite as well as she might have hoped. But at least she gained some measure of insight into King Heydar. And who knows, perhaps Ælirn might actually entertain Heydar's request. But at the moment her focus returned to the luncheon; she planned to stay for the whole of the festival so she might as well enjoy herself.

Abbas which had kept a low profile until then saw the whole thing including that Heydar had left. He didn’t pay much attention so he didn’t know exactly was that about but knowing how foreigners usually are he wasn’t not surprised that they probably insulted him. He figured that it was time to start his tour of the RS which included a visit to the Manist community as well as his recently gifted domain. His wife Alya would stay longer at the fair. He figured that since she always wanted to have a bigger say in running the Empire shaving to spend more foreigners should be the price to pay for that.

Before he left he approached the Xaethoon delegation and addressed the princess and her spouses. He always considered that men who enter polyandrous marriages had a different sexual orientation and tried to mask it but Pramoria’s recent emergence from isolation had shaken that belief to the core. After addressing all the Xaethoon with the correct title he said:

“It’s been a pleasure meeting you and talking to you. I hope we will have the opportunity to talk again in the future. I do have one small favor to ask, when you meet H.I.M. please do give her this from us. My wife Alya believes she might appreciate it. “

After he handed Næxyn a small casing, he said:

“God protect” as a goodbye and left.

Inside there was a very expensive pen with the Xaethoon motto “Look to the Past to Prepare for the Future” engraved in Parthian showing that it was custom built to be gifted to the Xaethoon Empress.

Næxyn was surprised when Emperor Abbas himself made his way over to the three of them and actually addressed her husbands for once. It was a pleasant surprise, and Næxyn smiled at the man's words, "It has been a pleasure meeting you as well, Your Majesty, and I share that hope as well. And I would be more than happy to give this to my Empress."

"May your God watch over you," she said as her own farewell. The Princess was glad that something else had been gained from her attendance today; she sincerely doubted that Tamora and Xæth would ever be friends but she could perhaps do something to prevent the two nations from becoming too antagonistic. After all, she had fought Communist beside Tamorans and she'd hate to be forced to consider them her enemies. Then she opened up the case to see what exactly the gift was, only to laugh out loud when she saw what it was. Zadyr looked over curiously, smiling as well when he saw the pen. They both knew full well of Ælirn's fondness for fancy pens, and it seemed Alya did as well. Either that or it was simple luck, but Næxyn felt like giving the woman the benefit of the doubt.
