The language of hidden messages and double meanings was second nature to those who inhabited the world of espionage. It was somewhat unusual to see such messages communicated between Heads of State but the context of the initial message from the Pharaoh had demanded that in the response, so here at the communicated time at the communicated place was Rion Ayanami otherwise known by the callsign Raven. A name she'd deliberately chosen in reference to the Achkaerinese legend. She reached into the back of the car and picked up her sword, it was a Wakizashi style blade, a short sword katana. She normally didn't wear this unless it was for an occasion such as today, a lot of work had gone into setting up a cover for her presence, her being a Cult of Helus follower helped a little here. Strapping on her sword she covered the distance to the Sphinx and waited as the sky turned to dusk. It wasn't long before the Pharaoh's arrival.

"I'm Raven." Rion said "I understand you wish to speak about a delicate matter."

Diplomacy and Events / Armitage Opinion (to Rokk)
« on: January 05, 2022, 12:08:26 AM »
OOC - I'm told by Beatrice that the request for this wasn't retconned.

Legal Opinion in the Matter of Inquiry into Conduct in Relation to the Fair Seas Concordat

Introduction

1. The giver of this opinion is Melanie Armitage I am a commander in the Achkaerinese Navy, I have served in the navy for twenty five years, twenty of which have been in the JAG Corp. Of those twenty years sixteen were as counsel and the last eight have been as a judge, I am the serving Achkaerinese judge in the Uppsala Covention Court, my law degree is from the University of Dovah and I am a graduate of the Judicial College in Valtheim.

2. This legal opinion does not, nor should be interpreted as, constituting a legal judgement it is one individual's opinion based on an analysis of relevant legal material.

3. This Legal Opinion pertains to the legality of actions undertaken by the Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi in relation to the Fair Seas Concordat and was requested by the First Empire of Rokkenjima.

The Incident

4. The incident that this opinion concerns itself with is the arrest at sea of Lt Col Gamal of the Royal Seleucid army on the 4th of July 2017[1]. The arrest occurred aboard the Corinth Cruise ship, a Mercian flagged vessel[2]. Eyewitness testimony describes a helicopter landing on deck at night, a small team of armed men sweeping the ship and arresting Lt Col Gamal on the charges of crimes against humanity. The incident occurred in international waters.

The Law

5. If attempting to apply the Fair Seas Concordat[3] to the incident we must look at Article 110 section which states:

Article 110
Right of visit

1. Except where acts of interference derive from powers conferred by
treaty, a warship which encounters on the high seas a foreign ship, other than
a ship entitled to complete immunity in accordance with articles 95 and 96,
is not justified in boarding it unless there is reasonable ground for suspecting
that:
(a) the ship is engaged in piracy;
(b) the ship is engaged in the slave trade;
(c) the ship is engaged in unauthorized broadcasting and the flag
State of the warship has jurisdiction under article 109;
(d) the ship is without nationality; or
(e) though flying a foreign flag or refusing to show its flag, the ship
is, in reality, of the same nationality as the warship.

For the purposes of explanation the status afforded by articles 95 and 96 refers to jurisdictional immunity for the ship from all states save its own if it be either a warship or a vessel on government non-commercial service. The Corinth is neither of these therefore the immunities do not apply. The article lists the grounds under which the Iwi would be justified in boarding the Corinth and none of them would appear to apply in these circumstances, the Corinth was not engaged in piracy, was not engaged in the slave trade, was not engaged in unauthorised broadcasting, was not without nationality and was not attempting to conceal its identity by flying a false flag.

6. Therefore in response to the question "Do the actions of the Iwi in respect of this incident breach the Fair Seas Concordat?" the answer is yes, this being due to omission of arrest from article 110.

Consideration of the Status of Relations Between the Iwi and Royal Seleucid

7. Despite the answer given in paragraph 6, there must be due consideration of the status of relations between the Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi and the Emirate of Royal Seleucid. The two nations were recognised as at war with each other, there exists no peace treaty between the two nations, there exists no declaration of a cessation of hostilities between the two sides, there is sufficient basis to contend that a state of war continues to exist between the two nations. This is important because the methods employed in war, and sometimes in peace time, are omitted from the Fair Seas Concordat as attempting to apply the law of peace time to war is similar to attempting to apply the rules of Association Football to a game of Rugby.

8. If it is accepted that a state of war persists between the nations of the Iwi and Royal Seleucid then there is a method under some conventions of warfare at sea[4] for the Iwi action to be understood in this instance we would consider:

Section VI : Capture of neutral merchant vessels and goods

146. Neutral merchant vessels are subject to capture outside neutral waters if they are engaged in any of the activities referred to in paragraph 67 or if it is determined as a result of visit and search or by other means, that they:

(a) are carrying contraband;

(b) are on a voyage especially undertaken with a view to the transport of individual passengers who are
embodied in the armed forces of the enemy;

(c) are operating directly under enemy control, orders, charter, employment or direction;

(d) present irregular or fraudulent documents, lack necessary documents, or destroy, deface or conceal
documents;

(e) are violating regulations established by a belligerent within the immediate area of naval operations; or

(f) are breaching or attempting to breach a blockade.

For the purposes of the above, the Corinth does constitute a merchant vessel, part b of the article is highlighted - while likely not applicable to the letter in the circumstances, the spirit of the quoted article would appear to be that enemy combatants aboard neutral zones are grounds to capture the said neutral vessel, one must then question the reason of that being a ground presumably that is to effect the capture of the enemy combatant(s) by the warship. Taking such a line of thought would mean that the Iwi action is not inconsistent with conventions and guidance for conduct during naval warfare at sea and therefore would make the action of the Iwi to be within accepted norms for the circumstances.

Conclusion

9. The right or wrong of the Iwi's action in this case ultimately depends on whether or not a state of war between the Iwi and Royal Seleucid is considered to have existed on the 4th of July 2017, the lack of a peace treaty or any formal notice of hostilities ceasing suggests that a state of war did exist and as outlined in paragraph the action of the Iwi falls spiritually within an acceptable norm.

Commander Melanie Armitage
 1. OOC - I believe the name Gamal has been used as a substitution for Phillips in reference to this previously, date as per the then Mercia news report
 2. We've always operated a policy of nations no longer on the map as being "somewhere out there" so I believe this would still be a Mercian vessel despite the subsequent replacing of Mercia with RS in the Iwi history narrative

The Steele Lectures

Named after Doctor Donna Steele (Achkaerin's representative to the CETO), the Steele Lectures are explorations of thought, explanations of theory or events and discussions of ideas that don't find themselves in news reports, broadcast on television across Mundus. Taking something of a lecture format in the main though other formats have been used the Steele Conversations aim to inform and inspire people across Mundus.

OOC - A rip off/variation of the Dimbleby Lecture, I'm going to try for about one a month and see how it goes.

Sporting Hub / Stardust Cup 2022 - OOC Sign ups
« on: December 29, 2021, 04:15:32 PM »
The Stardust Cup is a 24hr motorsport endurance race, the track runs through the countryside and forests surrounding the central part of the city of Artaxia in Aelmoor province, it is an open event meaning that various different cars can be entered. The winner is decided by which car completes the furthest distance in the allotted twenty four hours.

OOC explanation - This is basically modeled on the Le Mans 24 hr race, there may be an associated event based RP to go with this, you are permitted to enter up to five teams for this for each team I need a team name, nation of origin and the car they're driving (with a wikipedia link to the car if possible), the car info is required because I may be required to sort cars (and therefore teams) into different classifications - if someone enters a VW Golf for example it wouldn't be competing against a Ferrari.

To: The members of the Cross Straits Community

At a recent meeting of the Cross Straits Commission it was reported that Rokkenjima's representative to the CSTO has tabled the matter of the future of the former WARSAW space station Spetnaz as a topic of discussion having also received a query from the ISEA about Cross Straits cooperation in the area of space exploration. Having reviewed previous proposals for the Community, the Commission hereby tables for consideration the Cross Straits Space Exploration Agreement of CSSEA for short, we choose this wording as opposed to Cross Straits Space Agency to remove the imagery and implications of there being an overarching body that members space agencies answer to (the word "agency" suggests a physical entity) we seek to propose an agreement that allows the Community to pool its resources and to explore the great expanse of space while also allowing members to work with nations outside the community as well. The resolution to establish the CSSEA and the proposed text of the CSSEA is included for your consideration and reference.

Map / MAP PURGE NOTICE (2022 edition)
« on: December 13, 2021, 10:38:19 PM »
Attention everyone

As Cartographer I'm giving notice that at the next update it is my intention to conduct what I refer to as a map purge (happens once a year at a map update), inactive nations will be removed, I'm sorry but there comes a point when we have to remove inactive nations that have just sat there and no communication has been received from the players.

The map purge will occur with the next update which will hopefully be early January to give people time to let either myself or Dave (as RP Mod) know that they want to stay on the map. This does not apply to the active players.

If anyone has a query grab me on Discord.

Convention Centre / Queen's Foundation Awards 2021 - Peace Vote

Name of Nominee: Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, Sovereign of Sovereigns, Divine of Appearance, Beloved of Amun, Chosen of Ra, Lord of the Three Lands, Ruler of Justice like Ra, High Priest of Every Temple, the Eye of Horus, Satisfied is the heart of Ra.
Field Nominated in: Peace
Reason for Nomination: Defeat of the terrorists known as the Confederation of Clysperis and the reunification of the Clysperi State
Supporting Letter:

When the Clysperi Confederation was declared by Nekhtou a period of uncertainty, death and destruction was imposed upon the Kingdom of Clysperis. There was a time during the conflict where it appeared that the self-declared Confederation may consolidate its holdings in the Southern Lands before turning its attention to the North, bringing with them more public executions, beatings and crimes against the Clysperi People. Through her wise leadership and cooperation with partners engaged alongside her in the fight against terrorism Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re not only saw the threat posed by the Confederation to her People defeated, she also realized the reintegration of lands held by the terrorists and has embarked upon several programs to repair damage and rebuild lives.

Since the cessation of hostilities living standards across the Kingdom have risen, while fairness has been shown toward those willing to repent for their associations with Nekhtou and his Confederation. That we have seen Clysperis rise from the ashes of the conflict imposed upon it by terrorism, I feel that Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re deserves consideration in the field of peace. Thank you.

Name of Nominee: Prince Jonas of Hassfurt
Field Nominated in: Peace
Reason for Nomination: Negotiating the Celtic Protectorate Withdrawal

Supporting Letter:

It is my pleasure to nominate young Prince Jonas of Hassfurt for the Queen's Foundation Prize for Peace. Over the last few months the young royal has worked to bring religious tensions within Royal Seleucid to a head and while ensuring that the region can return to national sovereignty in a more expedious manner. While the withdrawal of Ui Cennesliag troops has been achieved and system put in place to ensure Royal Seleucid maintains itself as a safe place for members of the Cult of Helus to live. It is now possible thanks to the Prince's input that citizens living there can live safe in the knowledge that their rights and identity are protected. It is for these reasons that we believe the Prince deserves this award for bringing to an end a long period of instability in this region.

Ragnar Madson

Name of Nominee:Ragnar Madson (posthumous)
Field Nominated in: Peace
Reason for Nomination: Creation of the now fulfilled roadmap to Lan Na reunification

Supporting Letter:

For several decades the only way the Kingdom and Democratic Republic of Lan Na saw each other was through the sights of a rifle. Thanks to the work of Ragnar Madson almost twenty years ago a path was set up to allow our two nations to embrace each other like siblings once more. This year the completion of Mr.Madson's vision has bore fruit and on happy circumstances Mundus saw itself with a nation less as two became one. The process of our nation fully joining together shall still be a long and challenging one however it is well underway and our only sorrow is that Mr.Madson did not live to see the joy his work brought. Until 2019 when he died he had worked with people on both sides of the border to ensure the smooth unification and now as our two lands sit under the same flag it would be fitting that the work of Mr.Madson is recognised by the international community.

Name of Nominee: OsmanTech and Pasteur
Field Nominated in: Physiology and Medicine
Reason for Nomination: Yellow Tongue Vaccination
Supporting Letter:

This year the world was ravaged by the Yellow-Tongue virus which saw a huge impact on the livestock market across Mundus. In addition to having a big impact on the agricultural industry it has also seen itself rip through certain wild animal populations. As the disease seemed to spread across Mundus teams from the two nominees worked, often co-operatively, to first map the virus and then isolate it before discovering how to map its genetic code. Once this had been done the Fleur nominees managed to come up with an effective vaccine that was then put into mass production by OsmanTech. As a result this potential catastrophe was brought under control. We believe that these people deserve this award as they have not only succeeded in manufacturing an effective vaccine in short order but have demonstrated the achievements nations on Mundus can make if and when they work co-operatively.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Mundus Know Peace

King David III of East Moreland

Name of Nominee: Dr.Simon Hindmarch
Field Nominated in: Physiology and Medicine
Reason for Nomination: Pioneering Biological Scaffolding surgery

Supporting Letter:

It is well known that early this year I was part of a programme to test a new surgical technique known as Biological Scaffolding. Several years ago a terrorist attack left me with part of my lower back missing muscle mass. Under the guidance of Dr.Hindmarch a pigs bladder was used to create a kind of biological net that was implanted where scar tissue had once been, this area received regular stem cell injections and has allowed me to gain much of the mobility of the region. A similar technique has been used on arms and legs to give greater mobility to those, usually injured soldiers, who have been wounded in the line of duty. Those having the operation have also included members of the Achkaerin royal family. It is my belief that through Dr.Hindmarch's skill, dedication and dexterity that I will have a much better quality of life and as such his ongoing roll out of the method will lead to a wider world impact.

Diplomacy and Events / Cartier's Fate
« on: October 22, 2021, 11:33:24 PM »
The diplomatic ramping up around Colonel Cartier had been expected but perhaps not at this speed, the myriad of legal issues was more than enough to bury most lawyers and the amount of pre-trial procedural motions that had been submitted by Cartier's legal team were quite significant not to mention complex and it was these motions combined with intelligence and political concerns along with the growing attention of the international community that was creating a perfect storm around the Colonel. In the Marble Palace it was decision time, Emperor Peter had gathered his advisors and they were in the midst of a deep conversation on the issue. Peter put the phone down after a rather bittersweet call with the Duchess of Aquitaine.

"She doesn't like it but she'll do it." Peter said looking around the room "Is everyone happy with handing him to Marseilles if they meet our conditions? Rion?"
"He's the most valuable intelligence source I've got on the Sorority, but I do have Alys now." Rion said
"Better Marseilles than Nya Aland." Kumiko Arkwright Peter's chief of staff said "We're legally within our rights to try him, but we don't need Brook 2.0."
"Marseilles where the crimes occurred better there than sending a message we don't want to send." Rion said
"All right summon the Marseilles let's get the assurances, if they agree we extradite to Marseilles, if not we reconsider." Peter said

An official summons was promptly dispatched to the Marseilles embassy.

Sporting Hub / MFA World Cups 2021 OOC
« on: October 20, 2021, 12:47:40 AM »
Back for an eighth tournament (after a year away due to certain things), the Men's and starting this year also including the Women's World Cup. The pinnacle of football tournaments (or soccer if you're American) on Mundus.

as in the last tournament the World cup will consist of a group stage, with grouping being dependent on the number of declared nations competing after which there will be Quarter final, Semi Final and Final Stages (these are minimal rounds if we get 32 competing teams there will obviously be a knockout round and we if we get certain numbers of competing countries we may require some qualification rounds)

Boost events have been removed from the equation (this will simplify the scoring mechanism), in addition teams will play each other once not twice in the group stages.

Nations are invited to bid for the hosting rights I have included the minimum criteria . As in previous events there will be a bidding deadline this time of October 31st with a view to starting soon after.

  • A list of appropriate stadiums, 1 of at least 85,000 capacity to hold the Final, 2 of at least 50,000 capacity (May include re use of the 85,000+ Stadium as well) a minimum of 6 stadiums.
  • Name of the Main TV Rights Holder (Your News Service presumably)
  • Plans for the housing of athletes and staff and training pitches in place for the duration of the Cup
  • Importantly a written letter signed by a ranking member of your government stating that they will provide safe venues and protective services for all players and staff no matter which nation they hail from. (No refusing entry to a nation or holding people prisoner because you don't get along in RP with their nation).

I will handle the scoring side of things, however I will ask someone else to do the scoring of the final should Achkaerin get that far (as I have done in other tournaments when this has happened).

Convention Centre / Queen's Foundation Awards 2021
« on: October 04, 2021, 03:11:09 PM »

The Queen's Foundation Awards (otherwise known as the Queen's Medals), are a set of awards granted to people each year in acknowledgement of their accomplishments across a variety of different fields, are once more upon us. This year we intend to award prizes for accomplishments in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, Physiology and Medicine, Literature or Journalism, Peace, Economics, Engineering, Archaeology and Anthropology, Mathematics and new from this year Climate Science (OOC - this essentially combines various RL awards together). Nominations will be open until the 26th of October with the winners being announced on the 1st of November at a reception hosted by Queen's College of the University of Artaxia.

We look forward to another celebration of humankind's accomplishments.

Charlotte Youngson
Chair of the Queen's Foundation

OOC Explanation

Ok this is essentially modelled on the Nobel Prizes. You can nominate any of your own characters, someone else's character, or even an international organisation if you can justify it in any of the fields. There are some rules regarding nominations explained below. All I ask is that people be reasonable, this is intended as a fun RP event not a competition.

The Rules

1) The reason for the nomination (I.e. what the nominee has done) must have happened between the 27th of October 2020 and the 26th of October 2021 - i.e. the period between last years nominations closing and this years nominations closing.

2) The reason must be a completed RP event - for example if the SSC Honeybadger was nominated then it must have achieved the speed record and not still be being constructed. This also means it must be something on the forum. The nomination period is deliberately long to give everyone the opportunity to complete RP's that may be relevant.

3) The reason must be feasible (within the RP rules) - self explanatory.

4) The Queen's Foundation reserves the right to reject a nomination should it deem it to be inappropriate.

The Nomination Form

Please fill out the following form to nominate for a prize

Code: [Select]
Name of Nominee: (Link to character profile if they have one desired but not essential, do include titles)
Field Nominated in: Chemistry/Physics/Physiology and Medicine/Literature and Journalism/Peace/Economics/Engineering/Archaeology and Anthropology/Mathematics/Climate - Delete as Appropriate
Reason for Nomination: What have they done to earn the nomination?
Supporting Letter: Why you (the person nominating) think they should be given the award, signed by the person doing the nominating (must not be the nominee and you can nominate someone from another nation).

OOC - This is what would have happened with Dangerous Game had rl not got in the way, anyone can jump in if they want.

April 2021

Rion Ayanami stood listening to the play by play as the retaking of the hijacked liner Poseidon took place, it was textbook well apart from the entry, but once inside everything had been standard the Sorority of Materna terrorists either killed or captured, yet despite the inevitable success Rion was incredibly uneasy this just didn't make sense, none of it - why hijack an ocean liner when this was always the inevitable outcome there was no logic to it...unless it was a sacrifice play, a misdirect, Rion's eyes darted around visualising everything else in play, and then she saw it and her heart sank because she knew she'd seen it too late, this was all about that rogue Clysperi submarine. They'd had a pretty tight net in operation but the hijack had forced them to pull ships from that leaving holes that a submarine could get through. She punched the nearest wall as she put it all together, it certainly had the elegance of Anna La Mortagne but then how had she managed to pull a Clysperi submarine and crew? Either way she suspected she hadn't heard the last of it. There was a game afoot and that submarine was likely to be a major piece if it was worth staging a hijack as a diversion for.

12th August 2021

Valtheim International airport was the busiest airport in Achkaerin, but like every other airport it had moments where it was a dead zone, it was here at a very early hour, so  early that the terminal was otherwise empty that Julian Lawson and Roxanne Cohen stood waiting for a late night/early morning flight from Ecclesiastical State to land, the pair braced themselves as if expecting anything which considering who was on the flight was entirely justified, they'd had a note the previous day with the flight number on it and the message I surrender AA written with it. Who had authored the note was obvious enough  - Alys Arsenault  the former Duchess of Marseilles ousted by the Sorority of Materna. The two Justicars waited until Alys came into view, Julian beckoned her over while Roxanne's hand went closer to her sidearm. Alys knew Julian from her prior interrogations by Achkaerinese intelligence, she knew the form, knew what came next she walked over to Julian and turned around allowing him to put the handcuffs on her.
"Why come in?" Julian asked
"Not here." Alys said

An hour later at Ashai Castle they had Alys in an interrogation room, Rion was standing opposite a table where Alys sat.
"You're not the type to come out of hiding without a reason." Rion said "What is it?"
"Someone kidnapped my son from his school." Alys said "I want him back."
"And we should help you because?" Rion asked
"Because the Sorority is planning an attack." Alys said
"And you know that how?" Rion asked
"I still have some pull in Marseilles." Alys said "Get me my son back and I'll tell you my source, after that you can do whatever you like with me."
"Name of your sons school." Rion said putting a pen and paper in front of Alys.

A minute later Rion was in the corridor looking at Julian "It's the Bene Gesserit school in Seaforth." she said
"Explains why she came to us, she can't exactly admit to having a son in Seaforth." Julian said "Especially considering who the father was."
"The things we do in this job." Rion said "Get out there and take Hazel with you find out what you can. Meanwhile if the Sorority's planning something let's see who's sticking their heads up above the parapet."
"You think they are?" Julian asked
"With everything happening in the world right now?" Rion said "I guarantee it."

Mundus Games 2021

It's that time of year again- our version of the Olympic Games is back for its eighth outing, as always there have been a few minor tweaks to the event list with some new events added (horseback archery, chess and jousting) I'm also once again foregoing group stages in various competitions to simplify things. Bidding information is included in this post for anyone interested in hosting, if no one bids for hosting then you're all coming to Valtheim.

Bidding information

The bidding process requires nations wishing to host to submit requested information, what information is dependent on the event in question. There will be a deadline set for bid submissions in the case of the Mundus Games this is the 6th of July any bids entered after that date will not be considered unless the vote has not opened. As you can probably guess from that sentence once bidding closes there will be a vote conducted. By vote this will be in the form of a post in this topic and the format of that vote will be explained at the time as it depends on the number of bids received.

So with that in mind the following is the criteria for Mundus Games Bids:
  • A list of venues for the events- you are expected to include the capacity of these venues and the athletics stadium must have a minimum capacity of 80,000 (please make sure to include which events are going where)
  • Name of the Main TV Rights Holder (For example EMTV)
  • Plans for the Athletes Village (just an image will do with a brief explanation)
  • Importantly a written letter signed by a ranking member of your government stating a) that they will provide safe venues and protective services for all athletes and staff no matter which nation they hail from. (No refusing entry to a nation or holding people prisoner because you don't get along in RP with their nation) and b) explaining the legacy of the games in your nation (what will the venues be used for afterwards, will there be a focus on the next generation of athletes? etc) This is the selling aspect of the bid

Everyone is advised that the last bullet point is quite important as it involves something akin to the Olympic Truce.

Also as the controller of the Mundus Games Committee (our IOC) I reserve the right to refuse a bid should there be a legitimate IC reason to do so, e.g we wouldn't be having this in a country in the middle of a civil war. I would like to remind everyone that if they believe there to be a legitimate IC reason to question a bid they may do so icly, just please do it in a separate thread.

As a word of advice to any prospective bidder do bear in mind that you will require multiple stadia for events such as football and cricket.

As usual competing nations will have the opportunity to choose disciplines to specialize in that is those headings in YELLOW, you are permitted three specialisms. You may also suggest the addition of an event if you wish but please remember these are the summer games (so no snowboarding). Also this is just the event list I have not yet worked out the schedule.

Finally I am not simply assuming everyone competes in everything but I am instead letting you determine which events you enter however please note that some events have a set number of people involved and some have a minimum number, these are generally team events and are indicated. Also please remember when determining your team size what the size of your nation is and how sporty they are.

Sign Up Information

Again this year we're using google sheets to create the Database as far as I understand it I believe you should be able to add in your athlete information without needing to sign into a google account, if for whatever reason you can't add yours in post it below and I'll get it added. I have already put Achkaerin's information in there to give people an idea of when numbers are entered and when yes/no isn't. If you aren't entering an event please enter either a zero or no into the cell or leave the cell blank.

Also remember to include your nations three specialist disciplines in the sign up post you do.

A Letter to MICA and the AKO

To the members of MICA and the AKO,

As you will be aware the island of Awhaele which sits within the geographic locality of both your organisations is following a referendum sovereign Achkaerinese soil, one of the key aspects following that referendum was how to ensure Awhaele wasn't left isolated in its locality while also making sure that any method of doing so was respectful of the situation at hand, this led to a schedule of friendship between East Moreland and the island of Awhaele being signed. This is a good first step and now I hope to take the next step with you. I would like to invite you to Farthing Castle close to the city of Leonaise in the hope of negotiating an agreement between Achkaerin and your organisations that falls along the lines of the agreement presently in existence between East Moreland and the Cross Straits Union.

Signed

Emperor Peter Azurewind

An Invitation to the Kingdom of East Moreland and the Kingdom of Seaforth

To King David and King Andrew

As you will both be aware I have extended invitations to the members of MICA and the AKO to come to Achkaerin and negotiate an agreement between my country and those organisations that develops Awhaele's relationship with the Illumic and Alba Karinya communities while also ensuring that decisions regarding matters such as Illumic security are made by Illumic nations. The latter half of this point is why I would in addition to the invitations you've already received in respect of MICA and the AKO add a third invitation for representatives of East Moreland and Seaforth to meet with my representatives to negotiate an agreement between our three nations that not only addresses this matter but also reflects the strong history of cooperation that has existed between our nations.

In friendship

The Aquarius Cup 2021

The Aquarius Cup the biggest sailing competition outside of the Mundus Games. Teams from across Mundus compete for this prestigious title, who will emerge as national champions? Who will become champions of their continent? Who will earn the right to compete for the title at East Moreland's Festival of Sail? There are sixteen teams drawn from eight nations, only one can win.

Race Day One Results

Alba Karinya Regatta

East Moreland - Seabrooke Naval College defeat Portworth Naval College

Zimalia - Presidents Sailing Club defeat Mogebbe Sailing Club

Albion Regatta

FOA - The Red Rockets defeat The Lachtens College Boating Team

Tytor - RNA Midshipmen defeat WSC International

Ardia Regatta

Arashkai - The Ikhan Dragons defeat The Ishkot Ghosts

Toshikawa - Rennyo Clan Sailing defeat Shogun's Sailors

Cotf Aranye Regatta

Jugland - Sjovegen Klubb defeat Juglandensk Sjoroveri

Achkaerin - Queen's College Sailing Racing Team defeat Naval Cadets Sailing Team

OOC - for the audience of doubt I've deliberately paired teams from the same nation up against each other for the first round, this amounts to a 'national title' so to speak, next the winners of nationals will face off against each other to win their continent and then we whittle the four down to two for the final.

They'd thought these days were long behind them, but if it wasn't one thing it was another especially when it came to Rokkenjima. Where Beatrice had been unpredictable, questionable, stubborn, foolish and paranoid Evanthe was stable, solid and to use a common phrase a safe pair of hands and with Emerson at her back and her Seaforthian experience there were no real worries there, the unknown variable was what happened when Adriana got on the throne. Would she be closer to her mother or would she be the trusting ally the stalwart rock that people needed her to be. In truth helping prepare Adriana for that task had been part of the reasoning agreed to by the current rulers of Achkaerin and Rokkenjima, Peter and Evanthe to give Adriana the benefit of experience, of learning from someone who had the experience but who would also occupy the throne of Achkaerin while Adriana sat on the Rokkenjiman throne. Naturally that person was Crown Princess Serenity, it was a bit of a weird moment however as Serenity flew into Josai, she'd hoped to have a year to prepare for Adriana but it seemed that despite all the progress that had been made that somehow things still happened and the result was what might be termed an intervention, she'd have been down in Tytor like a shot weeks ago if she hadn't been busy holding the fort while her father had surgery, on that occasion Adriana's comments by tweet had been of concern, now though she was heading off the apparent silliness out of Pyrena.

Finding the Austrana wasn't difficult, the yacht did stick out like a sore thumb, stepping onboard the yacht she sighed as she quickly conversed with Gemma Sanders, the bodyguard assigned to Adriana from the Justicars. Getting a quick update on everything from her end.

"Where is she?" Serenity asked knowing this was a surprise visit, when she was told Serenity walked the distance below decks, this wasn't an announced visit this was a head start with Adriana. She pushed the door of the room open and found a rather surprised Adriana "What on Mundus are you playing at?"

The Aquarius Cup 2021

The Aquarius Cup is an international sailing competition where teams from the nations of Mundus compete against each other in a knockout style tournament by region across the waters of Mundus until only the final two teams remain for the final contested as part of the Festival of Sail in East Moreland.

OOC - First a big thanks to Dave for letting me put the final race as part of the Festival of Sail. This is a fairly self explanatory sports thing, imagine it along the lines of Formula Mundus but applied to sailing teams, this is basically a slightly more elaborate America's Cup. Ideally (and dependent on numbers) the initial rounds of the tournament will be consisted within regions which will be figured out when the entries are in. I'm initially saying two teams per nation. For those interested please provide the following information:

Team Name
Nation of Origin

Diplomacy and Events / An Invitation to Tytor
« on: April 11, 2021, 11:21:32 PM »

To Prime Minister Thatcher,

It seems slightly unbelievable that considering the steadfast commitments and nature of our respective nations that outside of our contributions within international organisations and attendances at international occasions Achkaerin and Tytor have not at any point engaged solely with each other, a state of affairs I would very much like to see righted. As such I'd like to invite you and/or other representatives of your nation to visit Achkaerin so we may remedy this, I am quite happy to visit Tytor should you prefer to meet on your soil. Should you choose to visit Achkaerin I would request you fly into St James's airport outside Santiago.

I look forward to your response

Economics and Industry / The Spirit of Mundus Floating Museum
« on: April 09, 2021, 12:46:53 AM »

The Spirit of Mundus is a floating museum that is intended to give greater accessibility to different cultures from across Mundus for a variety of purposes. The ship is open to galleries, museums, traditional craftsmen, performers, historians, students etc from across Mundus and has room for:
  • Approximately 200-300 exhibition spaces (depending on size)
  • Space for 50 restaurants
  • Approximately 150 virtual reality suites
  • There is a performance stage aboard where music/dancing/cultural tradition may occur

The ship is due to set sail on the 7th of May 2021 and we encourage all interested parties to contact us with the following information:

Code: [Select]
Name: Who/what are you?
Type: Exhibition/Virtual Reality/Craft/Restaurant (delete as appropriate)
Nation of Origin: Where do you come from?
Description: Give a basic idea of what you're going to be doing
Designated Contact: Who does the operator call if there's an emergency?
Number of people staying aboard: How many staff do you need?
Any special considerations: For example access to the deck, secure rooms, specific temperature etc

OOC - As some of the above may not be entirely clear an exhibition would for example be a collection of paintings from Tytor, a craft activity could be traditional sword forging from East Moreland or sword dancers from Achkaerin (also I include musical performers in that). On virtual reality is stuff like interactive virtual tours of somewhere like the pyramids or an interactive (slightly computer game VR experience) of something historical such as a famous battle, wedding, event etc.

Great Northern Ocean 23rd March 2021

Fleet Captain Mark Sullivan sighed as he stood looking down at the touchscreen table that the Achkaerinese military and intelligence communities called the 'chessboard' he commanded the INS Firebreather, a Riviere class destroyer in the Achkaerinese navy his current orders were to hunt down and deal with the rogue Clysperi submarine that was somewhere in the Northern Ocean, they hadn't had a lot of success yet but that was perhaps to be expected, the ocean was rather vast and the Clysperi submarine by comparison very very small. Mark was the senior officer in the group of ships that were assigned to this task and was in the process of reworking the search pattern again when the bridge chatter increased for a moment.

"Sir." the coms officer said "You need to hear this."
"On speaker." Mark said

"IMS Poseidon, repeat this is the IMS Poseidon declaring an emergency ship has been hijacked by the Sorority of Materna...."

The distress call was cut off and Mark's eyes widened, what the heck were the Sorority doing this far north? "All right set a course for the Poseidon tell the Normandy they'll have to search alone for now. Contact Command let them know what's occurring."

INS Valiant, Strait of Shaw, 13th July 1998

The INS Valiant cruised slowly through the Strait of Shaw heading down to the mid region of the strait, specifically the Marseilles area. Standing in command on the bridge was Captain Peter Azurewind, Crown Prince of Achkaerin and somewhat lucky to have his rank, in truth he felt like he'd been accelerated up the ranks because of who he was rather than his ability, something he was keen on seeing stopped when the time came for him to occupy the throne. He was reading over the orders that had been sent to him for this mission, they were very weird when compared to what he was used to most of his orders were patrol routes this was a special forces operation and he was the chauffeur. A few weeks earlier at the beginning of May the ruling family of Aquitaine had been killed, assassinated by the Marseilles military, it read very much like the feud over Aquitaine sovereignty had come to a head but then out of nothing a message had landed at the Achkaerinese embassy in Montaulon, the capital of Marseilles, and it was the contents of that message that had brought the Valiant to the Strait. It was a dark cloudy night, no moon, no stars were visible, the rain was falling lightly

"Approaching position sir." the helm officer Ensign Hermione Bennett said
"Thank you Hermione go to all stop." Peter said
"All stop aye sir." Hermione said
"Aoife?" Peter asked
"No sign of any Marseilles reaction to our presence, no shadows, no aircraft." Lieutenant Aoife Thorn the senior weapons officer aboard the ship said
"And now we find out if this is for real or some sort of elaborate trap." Commander Celine Tyler, the ships XO said

"Yep" Peter said he looked at his watch, their contact from inside Marseilles, their source on this had stated in communication that one of the Aquitaine noble family, the newborn daughter had survived the massacre of the family. This was an extraction of that child from the country. "Celine."
"Captain?" Celine asked
"Launch it." Peter said
"Aye sir." Celine said she picked up the radio "This is the XO commence Spectrum"

No sooner had Celine given the order than a Finch was taking off from the Valiant and flying into Marseilles, the hope was that the stealth features on the helicopter would get the onboard Achkaerin Special Forces Team in and out without being detected. The ASF team was Silver Troop under the command of First Lieutenant William Yates the helicopter journeyed not more than a couple of miles inland, settling on the Marseilles coast in the countryside close to the cliffs, the ASF team disembarked and fanned out securing a small perimeter, William looked at his watch they were right on time now where was their contact? His orders were clear, he was to wait up to two  hours and then get back to the ship if the contact was a no show. Fortunately it didn't take long before a lone off road vehicle pulled up, out got a man carrying a baby seat in one hand a sports over his shoulder, he moved quickly forwards to where the Achkaerinese soldiers were waiting.

"Captain Cartier Aquitaine Yeomanry." the man said
"Lieutenant Yates." William said "That her?" he indicated the child in the seat.
"Yes this is Danièle Aveline." Cartier said "Technically she's the Duchess of Aquitaine."
"What's in the bag?" William asked, unzipping it to inspect
"Baby clothes, nappies, wipes, bottles, her favourite stuffed toy and some documents that are for her when she's older." Cartier said
"Ok." William said he took the bag and the seat containing Danièle and headed back to the finch "Silver Troop move it out."

Shortly thereafter back aboard the Valiant Peter was crouched in his quarters changing Danièle's nappy, it was something he was well practiced at having done plenty of his son's, his newborn daughters, his nieces and nephew as well. He smiled as he finished changing the nappy and got a smile from Danièle who was cuddling her stuffed toy rabbit. "Ok then." Peter said lifting Danièle up "Let's put you to bed." he put her in the cot that had been set up in his quarters and watched as she went to sleep, he let out a deep breath, two years earlier he'd promised Cecelia Anselmo that he'd look after Beatrice and now here he was with another exiled royal under his protection. Would that be his legacy he wondered? The father coming through all the time?

Marble Palace, Valtheim, 23rd March 2021

Peter stood looking out of the window of his study, he was enjoying a little bit of personal time reading one of his favourite stories - Watership Down, he glanced at where the book sat open on his desk just in front of Danièle's stuffed rabbit, she'd given it to him on the father's day just before she returned to Aquitaine. He could still remember seeing Danièle grow up watching her run around with Simon, Serenity and Beatrice plus occasionally Celine's daughter Yuki, Peter actually chuckled a little as he remembered that Lucinda Hadley had come along later.

"Peter." Celine said stepping into the study "We've got a problem."
"Please tell me Adriana's not been on social media again." Peter said
"She hasn't." Celine said "The IMS Poseidon's been hijacked by the Sorority of Materna."
"First I wish you had said that Adriana had been on social media again." Peter said "Second what are the Sorority doing hijacking a Rokkenjiman ship?"
"No idea yet." Celine said "The distress call received by our ships got cut off. They're on their way to the location now."
"Ok." Peter said he sighed "I want at least a ten kilometre perimeter around the Poseidon no ship or aircraft within it, isolate it and make sure Rokkenjima know what's going on please."

OOC - Anyone who wants to play hostages or ships picking up the distress call, offers of support etc is welcome to jump in. Anyone needing info on the Sorority give me a yell.

Rugby World Cup 2021

Back for the sixth time is the Mundus Rugby World Cup (which is most likely the most hotly contested trophy on Mundus). Last tournament saw Achkaerin win their first World Cup defeating defending champions the Iwi in the final, will the plucky underdogs triumph again? Will the Iwi regain their crown? Will the Honeybadgers win their third world crown?

Ok serious stuff, as per the usual sports sign ups state in this thread if you want to enter your nation into this - all hosting bids to be posted by the 19th of February please, following which there'll be a vote for hosting which I'll explain if one is needed. The full explanation of the bidding process is below. If no one bids we're going to an NPC nation.

Bidding Process

The bidding process requires nations wishing to host to submit requested information, what information is dependent on the event in question. There will be a deadline set for bid submissions. any bids entered after that date will not be considered unless the vote has not opened. As you can probably guess from that sentence once bidding closes there will be a vote conducted by vote this will not be in the form of a poll but in the form of a post in this topic (this is to ensure fairness of the vote). Importantly I want to make clear that as I for the purposes of sport effectively play the governing bodies (in this instance Mundus International Rugby Confederation or MIRC) and I generally everyone to be a member, nations can protest bids, but please if doing so make it about something not just 'my nation does not like the bidding nation'. Also I reserve the right to invalidate a hosting bid if it would place competitors at risk  which I generally take to mean nowhere where there is a civil war or large scale civil unrest.

So with that in mind the following is the criteria for the Rugby World Cup bids
  • A minimum list of eight stadia- you are expected to include the capacity of these venues at least one stadium must have a minimum capacity of 80,000 (for the final) and at least two must have capacity's of 70,000
  • Name of the Main TV Rights Holder (For example Tytorian News Service or EMTV)
  • Information relating to accommodation for teams and supporters.
  • Importantly a written letter signed by a ranking member of your government stating that they will provide safe venues and protective services for all athletes and staff no matter which nation they hail from. (No refusing entry to a nation or holding people prisoner because you don't get along in RP with their nation).

Also a word of advice to those wishing to host. It has been brought to my attention that we've had an awful lot of "Image Parade Bids" of late i.e. bids which amount to venue pictures and a fairly generic letter. Therefore I strongly encourage all those who wish to host this competition to "Sell" their nations in terms of why they are the best host for it and to think about the legacy factor i.e. what will the lasting impact of your nation hosting the tournament be?

Final note I am (particularly after the last one of these) limiting the number of tournaments to 32 nations if we get more than 32 nations then a qualification round will need to be held which I will explain if we get far. The participants shall be listed here, I have got Ben's OOC permission to enter the Iwi into sporting events in his absence.

Participants
  • Achkaerin
  • Iwi
