OOC- Apologies if this is confusing but regard the first part of this post as having happened the day that the airport was taken by the EM/UC op.

Kakashi had stepped outside while Serenity and Nettie continued to hash out the details of the peacekeeping forces access to Somerset airspace and the like, as he stood thinking his phone rang.
"Fuji." he said answering it "Have they really?" he was being informed of the Morelander and Cenneg capture of Kinere airport Thank the Heaven's for small mercies he thought at least someone was being proactive, not that Achkaerin weren't it was just a bit more of a logistical issue to get troops and assets into position though not by much "Issue deployment orders to wave one forces within the Achkaerinese contingent and let's get Citadel built. Patch me through to the Seònaid Ayanami" there was to be no more waiting around.

The INS Seònaid Ayanami was where it had sat ever since this crisis had become a matter of great concern, in the Peniche Bay, standing on the bridge of the carrier was the skipper Captain Jade Watson they'd been sat waiting for the go sign for a while then the radio sounded.

"Captain Watson." Jade said answering it
"This is General Fuji." Kakashi's voice came over the radio "Sentinel is go I repeat Sentinel is go, get the jets up."
"Yes sir." Jade said, she put the radio down "Inform Squadron Commander Frost to deploy his jets, get the Snow Owl up."
"Yes ma'am." the nearest officer said

Over the intervening week things from an Achkaerinese perspective were swinging into action, without much in the way of ability to land heavier transports Achkaerin had resorted to the use of EMAC Heavy Lifters to do much of the heavy lifting but everything was still waiting for Somerset to say "Yes" or for East Moreland to say "Runway's ready" Kakashi had been getting gradually more and more irritated with each passing day as nothing happened on the Somerset end Looks like East Moreland again. he thought, still at least they were doing something with their jets, he tapped his foot he was really beginning to miss dealing with Su Mai right about now.

BiographyAn old hand in the Navy, he dodged promotion from line officer to flag officer for so long and so obviously that it almost became a running tradition within the service, in the end he only accepted on condition that he was permitted to retain as much field command as possible, given his skill and record as a ship captain this wasn't contested by the Navy brass. Though if Joseph had his way he'd want to avoid the additional administrative duties he now has to carry out.

SENATOR WARD ANNOUNCES MAJOR REFORMS

Senator Ward at the start of today's debate

By: David Woods, Political Correspondent

The first day of the new Senate Semester began with the Government's announcement of what has been described as "the biggest shake up of the education system for decades." the long rumored reforms would see landmark changes to the current system as it will see so coined 'Apprentice Levels' introduced parallel to the Astute Levels Achkaerinese pupils take at eighteen years of age. At the beginning of the debate the Minister of Education David Ward outlined the reforms saying:

"Mr Speaker, for a long time now there has been an almost silently accepted truth in the education system, you attend Primary School, you attend High School, you sit your High School Finals, if you do well enough you can continue to sit your Astute Levels and based on those results you can attend university. The point Mr Speaker is that this is an approach that reduces the students to cash cows and our education institutions into a sort of sausage factory, where only the brightest are apparently accounted for, as for those who do not sit their Astute Levels there are employment opportunities, some are successful in this, others enlist in the armed forces and of course some fall through the cracks and end up in trouble. Mr Speaker the House will be aware that as part of the implementation of the Foreign and Defence Policy Review that the Age of enlistment in the Armed Forces is being raised to eighteen years of age something that brings up comparable to our allies and friends across Mundus, that means that the enlistment option in the military is no longer on the table for sixteen year olds when they choose not to proceed to their Astute Levels.

However Mr Speaker, this government does not intend to lose the benefits that sixteen year olds have gained by being able to enlist in the military in this way, it has by the accounts of several of my constituents who enlisted at that age taught them valuable life skills and principles. It is now the time Mr Speaker that these sort of skills were available to everyone at that age. The Bill before the Senate today is an educational reform that does exactly this, it introduces what we are terming Apprentice Levels, these being courses that run for students between the ages of sixteen and eighteen who do not wish to take Astute Levels allowing them to learn the skills of trades such as carpentry, hairdressing, engineering, plumbing and others, in coordination with local businesses. Mr Speaker it is time that we stopped knowingly cutting the kids loose at age sixteen, it is time that they were offered the opportunity to develop to their full potential, High School's have a duty to all their students to prepare them all for their lives in what we call the real world not just to those who have the best chance. It is time this was recognized and it is time something was done about it. So I urge the Senate to vote for this Bill and continue to show how important the future is."

Following a short recess after the debate the vote was held with the Bill passing the Senate stage by tally of 380 in favor and 119 against, as is convention the Speaker abstains. But that was not the end of the story as the Bill was signed into law by the Emperor an hour later, making it a record piece of legislation in terms of time taken.

It's getting to the business end of the group stage and now is the time to either play it safe and solidify your spot or consider a make-it-or-break-it risk to push through to the finals. So, the question is: how much will you risk? Pick 1, 2 or 3 boost points and on the 12th January (Approx 16:00 UK time) each participating nation will have a coin toss (service provided by Random.com). If the outcome is heads you will gain the number of boost points you risked; however, if it lands on tails you will lose those boost points. All nations will be automatically entered in this boost round at one (1) point unless you PM Achkaerin to specify otherwise.

Championship Equations

Going into the final round Riviere Corporation Racing hold a twenty three point advantage over Rytol-EMAC Racing assuming a Rytol one two in Silverhills, which would give the Morelander team a total of 437 points, Riviere Corporation Racing require 21 points from the final race to be constructors champions, or they simply have to outscore Rytol-EMAC.

In the drivers championship, Quintus Varusi goes into the final round on 287 points six points ahead of nearest challenger Sam Halliday who is on 281 points. If Halliday wins in Silverhills then he is World Champion regardless of where Varusi finishes, if Halliday outscores Varusi by six points he will be World Champion - though they will be tied on points Halliday will have won five races while Varusi has won four, by virtue of more victories Halliday becomes World Champion in such circumstances.

Assuming Halliday finishes second in Silverhills then he will have 299 points, Varusi will therefore have to be third to be World Champion, if Halliday is third Varusi would have to be fifth or higher to be champion, if Halliday is fifth, Varusi must be seventh or higher to be champion. If Halliday is sixth then Varusi must be eighth or higher to be champion, if Halliday is seventh then Varusi must be tenth or higher to be champion.

If Varusi fails to finish then Halliday will require a seventh place finish or higher to be champion.

OOC- Just so there's no confusion I'm operating on the assumption that this meeting occurs before the death of Vafleon's King.

Catrain sighed this wasn't going well, if she was honest herself she hated the entrance exam aspect of Vafleon universities but it was what it was and at present the Royal Court, the law making body in Vafleon weren't minded to change it - which in short meant that her father wasn't minded to change it. How humorous that was - the King who was dying and wanted to leave his children with a strong foundation for the future was actually in this instance, through his insistence on tradition, working against that. It also wasn't lost on her that she was having to defend something she didn't like."

"In that case." Catrain said "Given the incompatibility of the Vafleon educational system with others of nations represented here, I would propose that for now we remove that section from the treaty, this removes the issue and allows us to revisit it at a later date if we are so inclined."

Vignettes

Useful Contacts Achkaerin, Libby, DaveIronside

"What is a Vignette?" I hear you ask. Well in simple terms a Vignette, which we post in this forum, is a short story or series of short stories that add to the RP, usually this is by portraying events behind the scenes as it were, I generally think of them as opportunities for character development and laying the foundations of future story lines, in this way they allow you to RP an event that would if put in Diplomacy and Events otherwise be a one hander (i.e. you're the only person posting). So this would be for example the death of a King or Queen, the assassination of a President etc, in short anything that would not normally require another nation or player. Also if I may refer back to the concept of a Villian a Vignette is a useful tool to introduce and develop such a character.

There are many ways of writing Vignettes, you could have a specific story line in mind and use the thread simply for that story line, alternatively you could focus a thread around a specific group of your characters. My approach to Vignettes is the latter because it suits the way my mind works I compartmentalize so I have a thread for stories about the Achkaerin Royal Family, another for the politicians, one for the space agency etc. Importantly this is my personal preference there is nothing wrong with either approach, what matters is that however you write a vignette works for you.

So what should I write about?

Ah yes the million pound question. The answer is actually quite simple - whatever you like, provided it falls within the RP rules so for example writing a story about a detective in your nation would be fine, something out of the Famous Five would be fine but obviously something out of the Chronicles of Narnia in terms of the wardrobe effect is a big no no.

Are there rules as to content?

Yes there are - some of these may not be as hard and fast since the switch of forums but these should still be decent guidelines.

1) Be fair and respectful to the audience - this is more a guideline than an actual rule. It's common sense that not everyone is going to have the same stomach for violence, torture etc as others. So I encourage people to get into the practice of putting "SPOILER ALERT - POTENTIAL UPSETTING CONTENT" at the top of posts (put in a different color and bold it if necessary) if you're writing something that is quite graphic, this allows the reader to know that there may be something in the post that may upset them, now before you think 'Nanny state' let me explain why I encourage this - many years ago I did character based RP in a different genre, part of the story line we were running at the time involved plenty of 'darker' elements, I 'd been having my evening meal, I came back to the computer and played catch up ten minutes later I read a specific post and felt quite ill because of some of the details contained within. Don't get me wrong it was a quality post but the content was such that it would not agree with everyone hence why I have since advised such things as Spoiler Alerts, this is no way means you can't write such things (provided they fall within the terms of service) it just gives the reader the awareness that the content may be a bit too much for them personally.

2) Sex Scenes - Ok let's get one thing straight right from the start, romances between characters have no issues, there's nothing wrong with characters going on dates, no problem with them kissing, no problem with them touching (within reason), this point is not about the romance element it's about how far you can take things when they get intimate. Now in this regard I want to make something clear this is not I repeat NOT Fifty Shades of Grey, from a story point of view there's nothing wrong with that sort of dynamic existing however as with all sexual elements when you put characters in the bedroom I advise people to be very general about it and avoid being overly graphic.

So what is overly graphic? That's a matter of judgement, what I will say is that I've written erotica style stuff for ten years and I've written in my time a lot of detailed posts is this sort of setting and I have never put anything like that in any vignette here, firstly because it was when we were on Zetaboards a breach of their terms of service, secondly if I could do that here would I? In all honesty I probably would, but I wouldn't do it every story because that degrades the characters involved. Ultimately with this kind of scene focus on the characters thoughts and not necessarily their actions too much. And remember use a Spoiler Alert if you're worried about things.

3) Language - Do characters swear? Yes of course they do. But not to Malcolm Tucker levels, general advice would be one maybe two major swear words per post but swearing rants? No, please don't while it's not against the rules it's a major readers turn off.

Now a point for readers of Vignettes

This is quite important to bear in mind - don't take things personally. It's entirely possible that in another players vignette you may see your characters or nation referenced in some way, now depending on how that persons characters view your nation or characters which means it's possible for such views to be negative, so please remember that. I cannot count the amount of times I've had people messaging me to flag up something they've viewed as unfair when it is simply understandable from an IC context. All characters will have IC opinions of various things and they won't all be positive, so to be blunt this is not a harmonious utopia of a world.

Knock...knock...knock. Three raps on Emalet's door, the young Achkaerinese ambassador had spent the night trying to dream that the previous evening hadn't happened. Some posting this was turning out to be, though she'd known this could happen and likely would she hadn't anticipated it happening so soon. Knock...knock...knock. another three knocks, Emalet hopped out of bed and slowly made her way to the door, she opened it and was greeted by two people she hadn't expected to see Scotia Conway and Chihaya Ousaka.

"Morning." Scotia said she thrust something at Emalet before the ambassador had a chance to utter a word, it was a hot chocolate in a paper cup "Get that down you."
"What are you doing here?" Emalet asked taking the hot chocolate and placing it on her desk.
"Believe it or not me and Scarlet Cox were on holiday having a chat with Scotia about some youth ideas." Chihaya said "Part of the old hands helping the current Youth President out."
"Foreign Office called my mother explained last nights events, mentioned you were probably in need of a check up so here we are." Scotia said, while they'd been talking Emalet had got dressed
"I figured I'd tag along." Chihaya said
"So how are you?" Scotia asked
"I don't know." Emalet said "I didn't expect this to happen so soon."
"It's life girl." Scotia said "Stuff like this happens, though not usually something quite on this scale."
"So what happens now?" Emalet asked
"Well according to the nice herald we spoke to outside, the four candidates spend the morning praying and then come to the throne room where you, the other ambassadors, the High Priestess and the Conclave get to question them." Chihaya said "You still a Trekkie?"
"For my sins." Emalet half smiled

"Think of this like how the Trill become joined to a symbiont, there's a rigorous process where all aspects of the perspective host are rigorously tested, their achievements, their record, their personality." Chihaya said, sipping her own coffee as she spoke "The results determine success, you're essentially determining that for one of the four."
"So advice?" Emalet asked
"Forget anything you know about any of them." Scotia said "Challenge their personalities with questions, make them reveal their true selves, you know they will look to cast themselves in the best possible light and you do that by showing your strengths not your weaknesses. They will have their shields up, you need to get through that and see each candidate for who they truly are. So forget you know them and trust your instincts."

Mind boggling Serenity thought, typical wasn't it? There was no need for an assurance in truth because the assurances already existed as far as Achkaerin was concerned Somerset was the successor to Seaforth and Seaforth had been an Achkaerinese ally, Serenity knew if she went off for a drive towards the Lakhzovian border she'd come to cities where during the Eugenics War there had been fighting, where Achkaerinese soldiers had died, if she went north she'd come to Halstead Village where the Seaforth Catholic Church had strung up and hung civilians for no apparent reason, with Achkaerinese soldiers having already fought and died on this soil there was no way that memory was going to be disgraced. But if it was assurances McKenna wanted it was assurances he'd get.

"I doubt Kadassa is stupid enough to let this escalate to an extent where threats would extend beyond borders nor do I think that any militia involved are going to instigate things beyond the Lakhzovian borders to do so in the manner you are concerned about would be for them to lose their position in this, if they take things out on the international community they seal their own fate, likewise so would pro Lakhzovia factions. You know as well as I do that this country of yours is the remains of Seaforth a lot of Achkaerinese soldiers fought and died here not that long ago." Serenity said slowly "We don't forget that sort of thing so the assurances you want already exist and even if it didn't one would presume an action against Somerset would at the moment concern Pyrena which in turn through treaties and organisations could involve plenty of other nations that is surely assurance enough."

"Now then Mr McKenna" Kakashi said "While I appreciate you trying to accommodate my requests your suggestion of the Joint Forces Base is I'm afraid  impractical for our purposes, we need airfields and facilities around the Lakhzovian border area, we cannot afford to have jets having to burn a third to half of their tanks just to get into position, no we need them closer to the area we need them to be able to be in position with as little flight time as possible."

GRACE ALLEINE BRINGS IN NEW YEAR AT VALTHEIM PARTY IN THE PARK

By Lucy Sullivan, Special News Correspondent

Grace Alleine led the celebrations in Valtheim's traditional party in the park as Achkaerin welcomed in the new year. The singer who claimed Christmas Number One this year with Smoke and Fire played the new year in with a collection of some of her best songs while fireworks lit up the sky above Liberty Garden Park. Speaking afterwards Lady Alleine said "I never thought I'd be playing this festival, it's one of the biggest on the domestic calendar and to have this combined with Christmas Number One makes this feel like a dream, so I'd like to wish all my fans a happy new year and let's hope 2018 is as good if not better than 2017 has been."

NEW YEARS HONOURS RELEASED - SCIENTISTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AND INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS HONORED

By James Robson, Home Affairs Correspondent

The Achkaerin New Years Honors List has been officially released and there appears to be a scientific focus this year. Topping the bill as has been expected over the last week is the formal declaration of the Emperor's wife the now Princess Renee Azurewind as Duchess of the hold of Rosemoor. Other major honors have been granted as stated to mainly scientific fields as Nicola Fernley (pictured above), the director of flight operations at the Achkaerin Space Agency, receives a knighthood making her a Dame and member of the Djana Azurewind Order, other knighthoods have gone to the CEO of AADC Darren Eagle who is now Sir Darren Eagle while Satella Watts the team Principal of Riviere Corporation Racing is also made a Dame. Phoebe Scott and her team of research students from the University of Artaxia receive membership of the Fawn Azurewind Order for their work with Graphene and development of a car using water as fuel. There is also special recognition for the Achkaerinese military personnel deployed to Uppsala in recent times as they are awarded Emperor's Commendation medals while the Andean Genocide Forensics Team that continue to identify the dead bodies of the victims of that atrocity are awarded membership of the Morgana Azurwind Order.

The international awards - these being the Ayanami Orders have also got some big names this year as the Emperor has awarded honorary knighthoods and admission into the Anezaki Ayanami Order to Timothy Carpenter of East Moreland for contributions to youth and international work, as well as posthumous awards of the same type, otherwise known as the Edelweiss List, to the former Head Gothi of Nya Aland Daniel Stenberg for contributions in the world of politics, the former Head of Longhouse of the Union of Nordic Peoples Willa Sunbrek for her work in international politics in the cause of peace, recognizing specifically the Uppsala Convention, and finally the late ruler of Lodja Queen Viktoriya Tar for her contributions in furthering the ground work of the Uppsala Convention and for her many excellent contributions on the international stage during her reign.

There are also junior honorary awards - membership of the Seònaid Ayanami Order has been awarded to Princess Georgia of Dartfordia, something most believe is an honor delayed from previous years, in total combining all the numbers together there are 138 civilian honors bestowed this year.

FOX'S CHARGING TOWARDS KNOCKOUT ROUND

Midfielder Cesc Santiago scored a rare hat trick as the Fox's brushed Rodina aside

By Nick Watson, Sports Correspondent

Achkaerin have won their third straight group game in the World Cup leaving them top of Group C and within touching distance of the knockout rounds,
the team's latest game saw them brush aside Rodina by a score of 4-0 with midfielder Cesc Santiago the star of the show as he scored three times in the second half to secure victory. The first goal of the game came twenty minutes in as striker James Cairns slotted home from a well judged through ball from midfielder Anders Asamoah. The second half goals belonged to Santiago, the first a free kick from twenty five yards out, the second a chipped finish from the edge of the area and the third a first time finish from the same range. Speaking afterwards the national team coach Dame Julia McCabe was full of praise saying "We're getting more and more on song with each passing game, tonight our pass and move was sharp, our tempo was right,
we created plenty of chances and we took them. I'm proud of the players they've done really well so far."

TRUST PREMIERE'S IN VALTHEIM

By Gabriella Tate, Entertainment Correspondent

Fiona North's debut feature film has premiered in Valtheim, the picture named Trust uses publicly released documents and information concerning the Andean Genocide to tell the story of the events of the tragedy through a dramatization of the Court Case and other associated events including flashbacks based on witness statements and accounts of survivors. The film stars the now Duchess Renee Azurewind, for the last time under her maiden name Sandiego, as the former Empress of Rokkenjima Beatrice Anselmo and noted singer and actress Alchemy Naismith opposite the Duchess as Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind, which makes for an excellent soundtrack to the film, the two women lead a high quality cast. The film has been well received by critics across the board with special praise for its approach to addressing the greatest tragedy of recent times in a very real way, speaking at the premier director Fiona North said "I'm unbelievably happy with the result. When we set out on this journey together we set out to make sure that this terrible event was remembered for the same reasons that every Memorial Day we remember the Great War fallen, so that it never happens again. I never imagined I'd get a cast like this for my first film in the chair either but it seems that the message I wanted to convey has resonated and for two leading ladies I could not have asked for better Renee's grace and elegance combined with Alchemy's power made a strong foundation for this. It was a delicate balancing act at times because we didn't want to sugarcoat or gloss over events that happened but at the same time this wasn't about making a horror film or glorifying what the Toshikawan's did, this was about giving the victims story and reminding the world that this happened and that justice was delivered."

Also at the premier her Majesty Renee Azurewind said "This was probably the most demanding role of my career. To play someone who, prior to these events, was so highly regarded was never going to be easy and when you've got scenes where you've got to be nasty almost horrible beyond belief about people who are family is just so weird. But this is a picture I'm proud to have been a part of." while co-star Alchemy Naismith said "I had to pinch myself several times when I was asked to play the Crown Princess on the big screen let alone in a film this significant because it's such a humbling thing to have been a part of."

The film opens world wide tomorrow and all the profits will be donated to the Andean Genocide Victim Relief Fund.
