"You're not Soji dear." Peter said quietly "But no you don't need anything except a few changes of clothes." he gave her a nudge back towards the Palace "Don't miss your own party."

A few minutes later Peter found himself standing, well leaning, against the door watching the scene in front of him. He'd never planned on being the patriarchal figure like this, but here he was a son, multiple daughters, grandchildren, two great grandchildren on the way and then there were the nieces and nephews. As he looked at the scene Sasuke and Sophia on the dancefloor, Serenity and Euphy right there just behind them with only eyes for each other, Sasuke's sister Juhani had managed to get a dance with Prince Lucius, which Peter suspected Sophie had had a hand in. Then there was Beatrice sat in a corner and Kyoko having fun and of course Evanthe smiling. It was a strange thing for Peter to be able to stand there and see his children whether they be his biologically or the ones he'd raised all in the same place at the same time. He'd understood the need to keep his parentage of Beatrice and Kyoko a secret but it had never stopped him from watching over them, he'd taken Euphy in when her parents weren't there and that had been weeks after birth, something Peter had never understood or forgiven. Then there was Evanthe, the child of the woman who had things been different he may have married.
"Quite the scene." Renee said coming up to stand next to her husband
"Yes it is." Peter said smiling "Don't tell Serenity but I always wondered about her and Euphy when they were kids."
"I can only wonder what was going through her parents minds, why'd they disappear?" Renee asked
"Officially they were the diplomatic pair, or at least they inherited that role. In the months before Cecelia made her play for the throne in 1997 they were gathering what international support they could. Cecelia lost and then they got hunted by the Federal Republic, bear in mind at that point Usagi was effectively Empress in exile because Beatrice wasn't of age. I was always surprised they didn't come back to Gowu until the back end of 2001 when they turned up with another child." Peter said
"Sophia." Renee said
"And I will never tell Euphy but I believe they were pawns in the same game that Mieko descended into." Peter said "Wish me luck."
"Good luck." Renee said

Peter smiled and made his way over to where Evanthe had just finished dancing with Josiah, who was thankfully not on this occasion wearing a Pikachu costume, "Can I have a word in private?" he asked

On the dancefloor Serenity and Euphy were giggling as they finished dancing, they were exhausted, "I've not danced this much since we did that pantomime in school." Serenity whispered
"I try to block out I ever did that." Euphy said
"Aww, but you were such a cute Tinkerbell." Serenity said she glanced at her watch which spontaneously brought Val over.
"I'll get the girls to bed." Val said "Go on and we'll see you in the morning."

"Be careful with just how you phrase things when you start name dropping treaties." Serenity said "Right now the preamble says 'Reaffirming their faith in the purposes and principles of the Uppsala Convention, Declaration of Universal Rights and the Fair Seas Concordat, and their desire to live in peace with all peoples and governments,'  that is absolutely fine as somewhere to add such things because one can subscribe to the principles of a treaty without being signatory to it. We all know there are reasons why many nations who believe in the principles in the MCUR haven't signed it for example." she paused "The only treaty needing a signature that should be a prerequisite for membership is the Uppsala Convention, for two reasons first because of how the treaty specifically works and secondly as we're including a mutual defence clause we cannot afford to have members operating off of different playbooks.

So what do you think a basic trade provision should look like?"

AADC ANNOUNCE VALKYRIE

AADC have announced that they are in the process of finishing development of what they've termed their "most ambitious idea for this type of aircraft." The aircraft named Valkyrie looks much like any other wide body aircraft but it's not the aesthetics that make this ambitious it's the intended purpose, as explained by Sir Alan Eagle "The Valkyrie looks like a tanker type of aircraft in terms of the airframe but it's the inside that makes the Valkyrie special, we're looking at being able to make the Valkyrie what might be called a 'flying hospital' that can be used as a hospital rather than just a simple medevac, though it will of course be capable of serving that purpose. We hope to be able to design a layout with enough room for a number of patients, with a small ICU and a small operating theatre. I'd like to thank the wonderful people at McKinlay Naval Solutions for giving us the benefit of their experience when designing the Nebula class hospital ship, that's really gone a long way into getting this project to this stage."

Minister of Defence Adam Sheppard was asked for comment in the Senate about the Valkyrie to which he said "The Ministry of Defence has placed a provisional order for ten Valkyrie's and will continue to monitor the final stages of the projects development closely. With Achkaerin's admission into the International Humanitarian Corps the Valkyrie is something we will look to include in our planning in relation to that body." In related news the Minister was also asked about Rokkenjima's intent to deploy IRN assets to Suisenjima to which he said "If Rokkenjima's answer to criminality is to violate one of their international obligations then I wonder what the point of orders given twenty years ago was. It's all well and good saying 'the IRN will be visiting under the terms of our agreement with the Ardian Assembly.' but the terms under which Rokkenjiman or Fusanese naval assets can stop at those islands are very clear either for repairs or for resupply and the window for such events is forty eight hours, clearly neither reason applies in this context, I would suggest Rokkenjima use the right tool for the job rather than create an unnecessary international incident, because they're not the only nation with obligations in respect of those islands."

EMPRESS TAKES GOLD

Basketball 2014, modern pentathlon 2021 and heptathlon 2022, whatever happened after today Empress Serenity's Mundus Games record would be considered successful and impressive especially given the variety of sports in which she has competed over the years. Today she added a triathlon title to the list making it a career sweep of the summer games multi event athletic events in which she can compete. In a remarkably tight race Empress Serenity fell behind on the swim, was pulled back into contention on the bike and had just enough road to edge ahead on the run in a sprint for the line. Speaking after the race, a clearly exhausted Empress said "That was the hardest race I think I've ever had I can't believe I did it, I got swamped in the water, it felt like moving through treacle in the choppy water and then on the bike I'm that far back and then Molly rolls in front of me and puts her foot down, a lot of this is down to her, she pulled me back and then on the run I'm just pleading that there's enough time and road to catch up and then that last eight hundred metres I was flat out..."

The Empress's gold medal followed a silver for Sam Carter in the mens triathlon and the pair will be involved in the mixed team triathlon tomorrow.

International Organisations / Re: International Humanitarian Corps

On behalf of her Majesty Empress Serenity, and following an affirmative vote of the Achkaerinese Senate, I submit the application of the Holy Empire of Achkaerin to join the International Humanitarian Corps. Our intention, if successful in joining, is to assign initial assets from the 5th Naval Group led by the INS Discovery and including the INS Apothecary as well as other vessels and aircraft that have seen action in humanitarian efforts across Mundus in recent years. Colonel Steven Ayanami will be appointed as our representative to the organisation, all told we estimate a contribution of around four to five thousand personnel.

Having received, due to our JET membership, information suggesting the deployment of IHC assets to Kritamala I also inform the organisation that we are prepared to accommodate IHC personnel, assets, supplies and patients on our soil for the duration of operations should it be deemed helpful to do so. This offer is made regardless of the outcome of Achkaerin's membership application.

Some might have expected an arrival more accustomed to royalty - pomp, ceremony and everything that went with it. But the circumstances in Kalasin mandated different measures. So it wasn't the Imperial aircraft Fox One that descended down on Anju, but a Raven aircraft, the nimble transport aircraft employed by the Achkaerinese military. It carried four passengers who shared a variety of agenda's between them for the meeting that they were about to have. Serenity had spent much of the flight discussing upcoming Senate business with the head of the Achkaerinese Government Michael Williams, third was Rhyth Icerider, dressed in what was best considered her off duty uniform, which was to say something a little more casual but with all the same trappings of her more formal stuff such as rank insignia. Waiting on the tarmac for them was another Achkaerinese General Kakashi Fuji, the man was an Achkaerinese military legend and with Rhyth formed two thirds of a trio that was held in the same regard. It was therefore no surprise that Kakashi and Rhyth greeted each other not with the formality of the salute that was afforded to Serenity and Michael but with a hug.

"Anything I need to know about General?" Serenity asked
"Mostly quiet in our areas of responsibility." Kakashi said
"And the hunt?" Michael asked
"Still hunting but we'll find her." Kakashi said

Serenity nodded and turned her attention towards where the local welcoming committee was waiting "All right then let's go." she said

Desiring to strengthen the bonds of peace and friendship traditionally existing between them, and to uphold the principles commonly shared between them,

Desiring further to encourage closer diplomatic, cultural and defensive cooperation between them and to promote conditions of tranquillity and prosperity in their countries,

Reaffirming their faith in the purposes and principles of the Uppsala Convention, Declaration of Universal Rights and the Fair Seas Concordat, and their desire to live in peace with all peoples and governments,

Recognizing that they have the inherent right of individual or collective self defense,

Considering that they have a common concern in the maintenance of international peace and security in their own regional spheres.

Having resolved to conclude a treaty of mutual cooperation and security;

Therefore agree as follows:

ARTICLE I

The Parties undertake to settle any international disputes in which they may be involved by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace, security and justice are not endangered and to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any manner inconsistent with international law and norms.

ARTICLE II

The Parties will contribute toward the further development of peaceful and friendly international relations by strengthening their free institutions, by bringing about a better understanding of the principles upon which these institutions are founded, and by promoting conditions of stability and well-being.

ARTICLE III

The Parties, individually and in cooperation with each other, by means of continuous and effective self-help and mutual aid will maintain and develop their capacities to resist armed attack and assist in times of crisis

ARTICLE IV

The Parties will consult together from time to time regarding the implementation of this Treaty and, at the request of either Party, whenever the security of the Parties or international peace and security is threatened.

ARTICLE V

Each Party recognizes that an armed attack against either Party in the territories under the administration of East Moreland, Dartfordia or Rokkenjima would be dangerous to its own peace and security and declares that they would consider action to meet the common danger in accordance with their existing domestic and international commitments.

The Parties hereby proclaim that an armed attack against any signatory to this Accord shall be considered as an attack upon them all and, should such an attack should take place, each signatory shall pursue the rights of individual and collective self-defence to aid the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, in concert with those of the Accord, such actions as deemed necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the territorial integrity, peace, security and harmony threatened in such a manner.

The terms of this Treaty shall not supersede the already existing commitments to the Cross-Straits Treaty Organisation.

The Parties hereby commit themselves to mutual aid amongst each other; the Accord shall see that resources are collectively ready to alleviate conditions brought upon major disasters, whether they be man-made or natural in cause. Mutual aid may come in the form of humanitarian relief, rebuilding infrastructure, and the establishment of an Action Plan to establish the resources and actions which will be made ready for scenarios such as a natural disaster, terrorist attack, or other forms of upheaval which may place unforeseen strains on our governments and societies. Each Party is expected only to provide that assistance which is within their capabilities to provide.

ARTICLE VI

For the purpose of contributing to the security of the Parties and the maintenance of international peace and security all nations shall share intelligence of known or suspected threats to the security of the others.

ARTICLE VII

This Treaty does not affect and shall not be interpreted as affecting in any way the rights and obligations of the Parties under the Charters of the CSTO.

Parties will allow citizens of the other member nations to apply for a fast track visa for purposes of trade, recreation, business or education.

This Treaty shall be ratified by the First Empire of Rokkenjima, the Kingdom of East Moreland, and the Kingdom of Dartfordia in accordance with their respective constitutional processes and will enter into force on the date on which the instruments of ratification thereof have been exchanged by them in Portworth.

ARTICLE IX

The Treaty shall create a Cultural Association. This Association will organise an annual festival to be held in each member nation in turn annually.

This festival must be focused on the sharing of the unique cultures of each nation and promote friendship between people. The host nation will provide opportunities for a minimum of 100 young students from each of the other nations to attend.

ARTICLE X

Membership Provision?

ARTICLE XI

This Treaty shall be ratified by the First Empire of Rokkenjima, the Holy Empire of Achkaerin, and the Empire of Fusan in accordance with their respective constitutional processes and will enter into force on the date on which the instruments of ratification thereof have been concluded.

This Treaty shall remain in force until the opinion of the Governments of Rokkenjima, East Moreland and Dartfordia it no longer serves the best interests of the Parties.

However, after the Treaty has been in force for ten years, either Party may give notice to the other Party of its intention to terminate the Treaty, in which case the Treaty shall terminate one year after such notice has been given.

IN WHITNESS WHEREOF the undersigned Plenipotentiaries have signed this Treaty.

Statement on Attempted Assassination of Princess Rhiannon

The Achkaerinese Government, in the strongest possible terms, condemns the attempted assassination of Princess Rhiannon of East Moreland. The Government is also pleased to hear that the Princess is safe and sound and sends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured security force member. Ceremonies around weddings were always an interesting environment, especially Royal Weddings, because they served multiple functions it wasn't just a ceremony for two people it was for a whole nation and potentially more than that, they also provided a more than suitable front for diplomacy. As far as Kayleigh Pryde, the head of security at the Imperial Palace, was concerned it was a case of so far so good they had gotten through the riskier element of the event. The Achkaerinese Justicar assigned to the Imperial Palace had all donned specially made uniforms for the occasion, the exception being Megumi who was on the list as Prince Lucius's guest, the uniforms were midnight blue with a silver flowing pattern around the shoulders, there were two exceptions to this the first being James Black whose uniform had a red pattern and Gemma whose uniform had a gold pattern. It was also safe to say that Gemma presently likely won the contest for the most slightly annoyed person present but as it was a wedding she wasn't taking it personally.

A few of the Azurewinds had hit the dance floor, Serenity among them as she danced with Euphy her mind running through the guest list as it reminded her of a diplomatic to do list that sat in her study back home, there were a lot of nations she hoped to have talks with in the future and a few were at the reception. Simon predictably was loitering close to Eijiro, the four young girls were having fun dancing around as well which as far as Serenity was concerned was better than them pranking people which she distinctly remembered the twins doing to Isaac on the morning of their wedding.

"You've waited months you can wait a few more moments." Lori Downing said, it was down to her robotics knowledge that this underwater search had been able to get this far, which was to say deeper than would be reasonably likely. "Lovely sea life."
"Very funny." Leon, Lori's brother, said
"Well there's definitely something down there." Lori said, "The drone's sonar is going crazy."
"Hit the lights." Melanie said
"And let there be illumination." Lori said inputting the command as the drone's lights came on brightening up the monitor feed
"Anything?" Leon asked
"Right there." Lori said putting the lights firmly on something and dimming them a little, so they could all see what they were looking at the remains of a galleon
"She's a beauty." Melanie said
"Reinforced hull, but not overly bulky, probably would have survived against anything other than the Dauntless." Rosalie said
"Yeah an older galleon gets chased down by an ironclad, not going to end well." Melanie said "Lori get in closer."
"What are you looking for?" Lori asked
"If the rumours about this ship are true then there's a whole load of treasure potentially not all legitimately Ardian Empire aboard this thing." Melanie said
"So that safe would be something we'd be interested in I suppose?" Leon asked
"Holy..." Rosalie said "We could be looking at more than just remains."
"She's been down there more than two hundred years." Melanie said "Lori lay the lines and let's get the safe out of there, we can have someone salvage the ship another day. Let's get what we came for."

OOC Notes

Very quickly to make everyone aware of some of the features of this years games that have changed from previous years, some are down to having watched elements of the Paris Olympics others on account of things specific to Mundus or factors specific to these Games the main ones are as follows:
  • As of this year the Mundus Games is reflecting RL in that those who are identified as 3rd and 4th in boxing both receive bronze medals
  • I have in some of the team events had to include repechages for the first time (in an attempt to keep the NPC numbers to a minimum) these work on the basis of a mini round robin tournament with groups of three, the team that wins two games advances.
  • The near month time difference in generating the results is something I do apologise for, I have taken steps to ensure it doesn't take as long in the future.
  • A reminder that the results only display the top 4,6 or 8 depending on event. That doesn't mean that only 8 were in the event, every athlete is deemed to have competed in their event, there are no disqualifications unless you wish to disqualify your own.

Finally a big big thank you to everyone who signed up for this it has been a fun one to score this year.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE MUNDUS GAMES

My favourite time of year is the Mundus Games, and maybe the months leading up to it, the qualifying events, the national trials, seeing where the athletes are on the journey. That's always the great part, the hard part comes about a month or so before the games when myself and all the various coaches from the different domestic sports authorities get in a room and make the decisions about who gets a spot at the Games and who doesn't. This year that meeting was longer than we've previously experienced. So what can be expected from this years Games?

I think we're going to see arguably the most competitive Mundus Games we've seen for many years. The fields across the various disciplines are stacked with talent and experience, everything from proven winners to hopefuls with more than enough ability to win. So much so that viewers trying to follow all the events across Mundus are likely not going to be disappointed no matter which event they choose to watch. I think we'll see the bar raised on past performances, I think we'll see records we never thought possible. The expansion of the cycling to include artistic cycling makes for a more complete experience we're going to see for the first time all the different styles of rider. But perhaps the biggest wild card in this years Games are the number of nations competing for the first time, there are many unknowns and that brings with it the potential for major upsets and surprises. Achkaerinese hopes will naturally rest at least initially on the household names, the stalwarts, Sammy Lawson is of course back in the saddle though on a reduced event schedule she now competes solely on the road and not in the velodrome. Charlotte Brittaine's back in the pool and is joined by Games debutant Sabine Bauer who lit up the swimming qualifying events and carries a fair bit of expectation on her young shoulders. Empress Serenity has made the triathlon team and will by the end of the Games have, assuming she remains injury free, competed in events throughout her various Games outings that include disciplines from seventeen different event types.

I think the other thing that's really captured the interest this year is that some of the team events have included repechages in their schedules, it's something we've never seen before at the Mundus Games. It will be an interesting experiment to watch. As a former amateur boxer of many years ago I will have an eye on what goes on in the ring, I don't think we'll see a repeat of a few years ago where a single nation swept all the gold medals, firstly the Iwi aren't there and secondly I think the competition level is too close for one nation to achieve that feat. We're probably not going to see things like that and we're less likely I think to see anything along the lines of the single day medal haul record get broken, I seriously doubt that will ever be broken. I think the other places to watch will be the fencing and the archery, the last time the Games were in Fusan horseback archery made its Games debut and it always throws something up, the unpredictability of it makes for quite the spectacle, this year we have crossbows included for the first time so again we'll see what happens in an event where no one is entirely sure what to expect. We've set a  medal target of seventy for the Achkaerinese team, that may prove to be highly ambitious or conservative depending on what happens and that unknown is what makes this years Games so exciting the intrigue that is generated from the competition is huge, there are so many stories that can be written, moments of glory, fairy tale finales, triumph against the odds. We'll see it all over the course of eighteen days of competition.

"Didn't you get to see it when you were snuck in through the tunnels a couple of months ago?" Megumi asked raising an eyebrow at Kikyo before she went to go and get the bikes ready. This was going to be a regular thing in terms of getting Kikyo around Pyrettania until the time came to say 'arise your Highness', blending into the crowd, using mountain bikes and so on was going to be the order of day. It took Megumi a couple of hours to get the bikes ready which was certainly more than enough time for Kikyo to do some unpacking. "Catch." Megumi said handing Kikyo a cycling helmet when the Princess came out ready to go "Yours is the yellow one." she indicated the mountain bike "There's a public cycle path that runs along the southern edge of Pyrena's hill, that's where we're going."

There weren't many events that saw the entire Azurewind family descend anywhere and those that did exist were usually on Achkaerinese soil and tended to be annual things such as the last night of the Edelweiss Festival or Memorial Day. This marked the first time that the whole family had moved en masse to an event on foreign soil and this was both members, significant others and plus ones. This was after all not purely a Royal wedding but a family wedding, it was also a time when quite a few people were happy to take up the offer of accommodation at the Imperial Palace, the fewer moving parts the better and with four young children all attending that was easily understood. For much of the afternoon the grounds of the Imperial Palace had echoed to the sound of what was best described as play battle as the four granddaughters from the Azurewind side of the family - Astrid, Lisa and the identical twins Aeolia and Lamia ran around the gardens with wooden swords and shields, they also had appropriate attire in the form of what looked like chainmail and tunics. The shields and swords were the handiwork of the former Emperor who was a half decent carpenter, the rest had been done by Peter's cousin Amelia Whitaker.

"So is this Minas Tirith, Helms Deep or the Black Gate?" Peter asked as he came and stood next to Serenity as she supervised the girls chasing Val and Euphy around who were playing the part of the forces of darkness.
"Well you've got mine from Gondor and Simon's from Rohan looking at the outfits so it'll be something like Minas Tirith." Serenity said
"So in a few years Asuna's two become the elves and they can do the last alliance?" Peter asked, Serenity laughed
"Speaking of." Serenity said "How are you feeling about being a great grandfather?"
"I haven't fully processed that one yet." Peter said "I never thought we'd get to the point where that secret would be forced out."
"The one good thing of Charles." Serenity said
"Yeah." Peter said "It's almost fitting isn't it. Twenty years ago Beatrice's wedding was very much a behind closed doors affair, huge security considerations but this one  this one has all the pomp all the pageantry, it really feels like the beginning of something."
"Well provided it doesn't end with me having to slap Asuna or hose her down in the shower because she was a little tipsy..." Serenity said
"Well yes let's hope not." Peter said "It'll be nice to have Simon around for something rather than on deployment."
"You know at some point him and Eijiro are just going to go off into a corner and geek out over aircraft, that's what they do." Serenity said
"In which case I'm fairly sure Mayumi and Lydia can go off into another corner and geek out over something else." Peter said

The person in the Palace who was probably most on edge about the following day was the head of security Kayleigh Pryde, it had been her responsibility to plan the logistics out for the processional routes and securing of the location for the ceremony as well as the Imperial Palace. It had been a challenge to balance the security element with the theatrical but she believed she had managed it.

As far as Asuna's personal bodyguard, Gemma Sanders, was concerned it had been a run of surprises lately not necessarily the wedding that had been long planned for, the pregnancy however was far sooner than had been expected but things were in place to deal with that. She was in her room directly across the landing from Asuna's when Amelia stepped in holding a dress carrier "And this is the bridal dress." Amelia said hanging the carrier up and making sure it was hanging correctly, before putting a pair of wooden boxes on the table "And this is the jewellery."
"I thought that was only going to be one box." Gemma said
"Well it was and then we had a better idea for the good luck charm so to speak." Amelia said "The smaller box is stuff that goes with the dress, the bigger one is on loan from her aunt, well more specifically her grandfather, the Mariner's Circlet."
"Well that's a big deal." Gemma said
"But very typically Peter." Amelia said before leaving the room.

Serenity sighed "That's all well and good but let me ask the question why do we need to duplicate already existing provisions?" she asked "If we're going to talk mutual defence then Achkaerin has through bilateral relations with both Rokkenjima and Fusan that provision in place. In terms of what Eijiro has said those provisions also already exist Achkaerin is a signatory to the Joint Emergency Team as is Rokkenjima, and I know that when the Senate returns from its summer recess one of the first things on the agenda is going to be the International Humanitarian Corps, so the question becomes what are you trying to accomplish? Because that." she indicated what Asuna had produced "Reads more like an attempt to resurrect the CSTO yet again and I didn't come here to see us repeat history. This can't be CSTO 3.0 and it can't be Cross Straits 2.0. I have nothing against a mutual defence clause or crisis relief, but if this be an attempt at an organisation then I refer to my previous point, however if we're trying to craft something that we're designing in light of the relationship we share as nations and as family, I'll repeat what I said in Commonwealth House one of you is my niece and the other is practically a brother, then I would suggest that the Cross Straits Treaty is not the document to draw inspiration from, that is a one trick pony and we didn't come here for that. It strikes me we need to consider what we're trying to accomplish here."
