RESPONSE TO THE SANCTIONS IMPOSED BY VAGUZIA

It is with a heavy heart that today we must announce that The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland has no choice other than to impose reciprical sanctions on Vaguzia. We have no ill will towards that nation and understand the need to stand by your convictions on moral grounds. We however will not be cancelled the annual whale hunt that sustains two remote coastal communities through the harsh Åland winter. As for the "Imprisonment" of whales we have only just discovered the situation of what the media are calling The Whale Farm. As the media has stated we are investigating the facility now it has been brought to our attention. Should it be found to be breaching international or local law we will be closing it down and looking how best to deal with the whales being kept there. This will be done consulting marine biologists to ensure the best possible outcomes. Until such a time as we have carried out our legal process we can not comment further.

We appreciate the concern of Vaguzia, and other nations in terms of trying to protect species. We therefore look forward to seeing Vaguzia stand by its actions and impose sanctions on other nations which hunt and consume wild animals. We would suggest that they begin with East Moreland, their national dish of Royal Game Pie contains Wild Boar, Roe Beer, Pheasant and Partridge. Each of these creatures shares the same classification on their status of endangerment as the Pilot Whales which are hunted by the two rural communities under a strict quota system. The Morelanders also eat a considerable amount of Bear which also is classed in the same category as the pilot whale, namely "Least Concern". We also suggest that Vaguzia place their sanctions against Rokkenjima and Achkaerin[1] as both these nations utilise the sea for a source of food including tuna, three of the four sub-species being listed as on the threatened section of the risk of endangerment continuum, therefore more at risk than Pilot Whales. We wish Vaguzia good luck in their efforts to preserve animal species of the most at risk species.

RESPONSE TO THE NEW POPE

Following the ascension of Pope John Francis we are keen to point out some misunderstandings.

1. The nation of The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland is not persecuting Christians.

As a nation we have strict codes and laws that regulate the manner in which religion is permitted. This is an a similar manner to how Abydos do not permit non-Muslims into their capital nor do East Moreland permit a person without having undergone their sword ceremony to carry such an item in public. As a result no nation has claimed these two and countless others persecute against religion. As The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland is the homeland of the Odnist faith and therefore every part of it is sacred. As you would expect a person visiting a Temple, Mosque or Church to respect that places traditions were ask people in this Sacred Land to respect it by not defiling it with symbols of other faiths.

Furthermore we believe what a person believes is their own business. We permit religious schools of minor faiths so long as that school does not outwardly display religious symbolism. For example Christian schools in Krokom will as we speak be performing Nativity plays to their parents and local community. This is perfectly acceptable as it takes place within the confines of their school buildings and is not broadcast onto the streets.

2. Tytor's actions will have no impact.

To date we have sat under Tytorian sanctions for a significant time. We have felt little impact as other nations are more than happy to trade with us. Furthermore we have determined to not let Tytor's perception of us influence our foreign policy. We have offered aid, which to date has not been accepted, following their terrorist attacks. Additionally we have co-operated with them on many JET operations. We are active members of the Council of Albion and would welcome co-operation with our continental neighbours. The Pope is merely trying to drive a wedge between our nations where we believe none in necessary.

3. Protecting the Innocent.

On two occasions the Gungnir terrorist group have attempted to carry out a campaign of terror against religious minorities in our nation. Both times members of the The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland's armed forces have put their lives on the line in order to ensure the safety of the innocent and people who do not share their faith. It was special forces of The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland who were instrumental in supporting freedom fighters in Marseille and Acquitane to ensure their freedom from persecution by their own faith. In neither case did our nation seek to impose our faith on those we aided. The choice to welcome Odin into your soul is one that must be made freely and willingly.

We wish the new Pope well in his new position and as always our doors are open.

STATEMENT FROM NEW HEAD OF LONG HOUSE MAGNUS ODINSSON
NOTICE OF 2024 IMMIGRATION ACT

With both Stein Ulfsson and Olivia Robertsson failing to partake in the Holmgång I declare under the ancient and unrepealed rights associated with this tradition that I am the rightful Head Gothi of Nya Åland and with the nation currently is a state of crisis and under Article 3.9 issue the following Decree

As of midnight tonight the 2024 Immigration Act will come into force. This Act nullifies the visas of anyone presently in Nya Åland unless they fulfil either of these two criteria.

1) Are registered as an Odinist with their local branch of the Odinic Order.
2) They can prove regular attendance at their local shrine or temple.

In the cases of foreign nationals not fulfilling either of these criteria their visas are now classed as expired and they will have 48 hours to leave the nation by their own power. After this 48 hours immigration inspections will be carried out and anyone found still within the borders of the Odinist Republic will be deported. We appreciate that for some with Visas they will be property owners. This property will not be seized and can be placed on the open market, rented or gifted to a person of their choosing. We will however give warning that in six months time we intend to pass the 2024 Odinist Property Act which will make being an Odinist a condition of owning any residential property with commercial property falling under similar restrictions in early 2025. The government will enter negotiations with any individual leaving to purchase their property at a fair price for both parties. Any personal items left will be placed in storage for six months and can be claimed and shipped, any items still in storage after six months will be auctioned off and the proceeds going to the state.

Should any immigration inspection find overstaying individuals that person will be permitted two hours to pack and then escorted to a deportation centre. At the point of a deportation order being served the persons home nation shall be informed of the schedule for deportation via embassy in most incidents. This will include the manner of deportation (airplane or boat), the intended destination (While we shall endeavour to send people directly to their homeland this may not always be possible and an off shore processing centre has been arranged.) and expected time of arrival.

Anyone not complying with these orders will be subject to prosecution with the maximum punishment being up to ten years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $500,000 which may be paid for by seizure of property. Anyone found to be aiding an individual to overstay their visa will be subject to the same punishment.

STATEMENT FROM MILITARY COMMANDERS

Following the arrest of an individual claiming to represent the Gungnir and thus claiming to now be the Head Gothi the leading judges of the nation have, as expected, indicated that Magnus Odinsson has no authority or power. The government of the Odinist Republic for the time being remains the three leaders of the armed forces and a state of martial law still exists within the nation. With the recent reports of an "Immigration Act" the military will be taking all precautions to ensure the safety of civilians, regardless of faith or home nation, and find those carrying out hostile acts. We urge the public to report any concerns they have and co-operate with military patrols. We are aware that despite a "warning period" the Gungnir have already begun their "inspections" and we are currently attempting to deal with one such incident.
