Gvelikali is represented as a naked woman, with snakes ascending from her legs -sometimes covering her waist and breasts-, holding in one hand a bottle or a jar, and in the other hand a sword - symbols of both healing and death. Abortion | Historically, abortion was relatively common in cases of pregnancy before or outside the marriage, while it was highly restricted and sanctioned by religious law in married couples, particularly when the head of the family or the husband's family were not informed or expressesly authorized it. However, following the last review of religious legislation in the 1970s, religious courts do not address the issue of abortion since then. Nowadays, abortion in Mktvartvelo is technically legal at all stages of pregnancy, independently of the reason, with absolutely no legal restrictions nationwide to access abortion services. However, access to services and resources varies by province, with some non-legal barriers, as few healthcare providers offer abortion care beyond 22-24 weeks without a medical reason due to the guidelines established by State Association of Professional Medicine. |
