Alba Karinya City
« on: February 06, 2018, 12:01:00 AM »
OOC - About a year ago I was left with the task of disolving a nation a user who may or may not come back called Academica had. Me, Yolotan, and to some extent Nova and KasierAdolf did so, the users request was that one province be left and called Alba Karinya City, this was a project the nation had built intending it to become like a hub for the continent. Essentially a four way civil war broke out with the "Good guys" being AK City, another faction of an ethnic group standing by AK City in the face of extremist religious types (some fictonal Academica hippy style religion) was granted independence, while the two "Evil Provinces" got bitch slapped. As a result all that is left is AK City, its sat there doing nothing as so in an attempt to bring it into significance I present you this.

It had been almost a year, the 15th April 2017, the day the war was lost their Empress captured and the political types had handed their Empire over to foreigners who were moulding their nation into something they had no desire for. Richard Barton stood outside the cities gaol looking up at the barred windows, he knew behind one would languish Clarissa Martindale, their inspiration, the 25 year old had gathered them into a small army, which had grown and taken over two provinces, she was a beacon of sense and had a dream of uniting all people of Alba Karinya into a mighty Empire, but then the Morelanders and Vaguzians had come. Now she was serving life in prison for executing POW's. Richard came here often and watched those bars hoping for a glimpse of her. It was unfair, that Shrine Maiden of her nutjob religious cult had killed just as many people as Clarissa as she had lead her religious extremists against the weak Academican government, but that 13 year old witch now sat in some private school somewhere given a new identity having gone through drug rehab after the torment her parents had put her through force feeding her a cocktail of drugs to induce her religious visions. It wasn't fair.

An East Moreland landrover approached the prison gates, probably carrying one more of Barton's comrades they'd tried to disrupt the process of forming AK City into its own nation, they'd been banned from the process because of their past, and now they saw it likely a weak state built upon liberal ideals would be born. It was something he wouldn't accept lying down and he was determined to do whatever he could to halt the process. He stood once more watching the windows hoping to see his Empress, but as always nothing appeared. He pulled his coat up about his neck and trudged back towards the train station, it would be a short hop into the main train station in the city centre and that was where he'd make his point. He sat quietly watching the city scape pass outside the window as the train flicked in and out of tunnels, the only person he spoke to was a ticket inspector. Like always the train station was a hive of activity, all part of the provisional governments push to make AK City a central transport hub for the continent, he saw Morelanders, Zimalians, Balticumites all mingling happily heading for the offices that dominated the skyline. He spotted the person he'd been looking for, it was every Monday at this time without fail, the smart blue uniform of the Royal East Moreland Air Force a beacon for him. He put his hands in his pocket and strode purposely towards the man taking a deep breath. He swung his backpack off his shoulder and took out the tupperware container, it had taken various contacts and months of planning to get this from Albanus Aries but the man had done well. Richard feigned tripping and landed at the feet of the Royal East Moreland Group Captain James Micklewhite, the contents of the box spraying everywhere, jam, bright red strawberry jam. The officer jumped back shocked as Richard apologised and got to his feet, Micklewhite, somewhat flustered tried to brush the jam off his uniform but it only made it worse especially as the feeling of the tiny insects within the sticky substance shocked him, their almost invisible teeth biting his flesh, something he wouldn't feel for days. Richard gave him a business card and offered to pay for dry cleaning and the two men parted ways, the Group Captain now covered in fleas stuck to the jam heading to his top level meeting with the Provisional government while Richard Barton went to dose himself up with antibiotics just in case.

Paora Arahanga had been enjoying a gap year travelling around Mundus before starting University, so far it had been a real adventure and now he was heading home. He'd spent the last two weeks in Zimalia on a safari and was now heading back towards East Moreland and his flight home. He was actually looking forward to getting home and catching up with his cousins and friends, no doubt they'd have a big party and of course his Mum would cook far too much food. He was sat waiting for his train to Northfort Airport when he spotted the unfortunate man spill something all over the guy in uniform. Paora had just finished his bacon sandwich from one of the food court stalls and had a pile of napkins. "Hi, these any use?" he asked as he approached handing the pile towards the man covered in what appeared to be jam. He found it odd the man who had bumped into the officer hurried away, it didn't seem very polite. Paora spotted a splash of the stuff on the man's sleeve and had a go at helping him get it off before wishing the man good luck getting clean and catching his train.

It took him 24 hours to arrive back home at Hunter's Bay and he was greeted by his parents, his younger sister and brother. The family embraced and his Mum cried with happiness having her beloved son home. The family headed back to the homestead where the extended family where all waiting. The party that night was epic and he ended up with his old school friends drinking around a camp fire on the beach. This morning though he ached as he tried to get up, he put it down to a mixture of jet lag and a hangover. The back of his knee ached, perhaps he'd twisted it on the beach. He pulled back the curtains, the bright light flooding his bedroom but he felt cold, like he had back in the Moreland Alps. He shivered his way to the shower hoping the warm water would defrost his bones but it didn't work. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, his eyes bloodshot, he couldn't remember drinking that much the night before. He felt his legs buckle slightly and had to grab hold of the sink to prevent himself falling down. He chuckled to himself as he walked back into his bedroom, but then collapsed, the sound of the 19 year old hitting the floor echoing downstairs.

Three hours later doctors in Hunter's Bay Hospital had him hooked up to various drips and monitors as he began struggling to breath. "Any ideas" a junior doctor asked his senior as they looked at the various test results. Dr. Tipoki looked at them puzzled, everything seemed off but none pointed towards anything he was familiar with.

"I'd say it looks like some kind of infection, but I'm not sure which, he's not been anywhere exotic, I'm pretty sure the Moreland Alps aren't going to be housing some super virus or anything" he shrugged, "We better get the boss down here." he made a phone call and the departments leading doctor, Rui Hoeata arrived.

He looked at the results and cast his mind back through his extensive medical background, he'd become a doctor during the wars for independence and had seen more than his fair share of horrors. He sat thinking, tapping his pen on his chin, his way of focusing his mind. "Tipoki, get the emergency teams in." He suddenly realised where he'd seen the symptoms before. "I've seen this, Waikata Prison Camp" he said the words and instantly every medic looked at him, that facility was part of every Maori's psyche, it was where the Seleucid had used inmates as test subjects for a range of biological experiments ranging from anthrax, to sarin to what he saw now. He'd spent six weeks trying to stem the spread of this disease among the community there. "It's the Bubonic Plague" he said quietly. "We'll go into lock down, have the police alerted, we need to find everyone he's come into contact with in the last five days." he began tapping away on a keyboard.

It had been 24 hours since Paora Arahanga had been rushed into hospital and the bubonic plague had been identified. The local hospital had swung into lockdown and staff and other patients had all had blood samples taken. Paora now sat in a kind of plastic tent in an isolated room, every doctor or nurse who dealt with him was wearing heavy duty gloves and masks, their every action so steady to ensure they didn't stab themselves with a used needle or something.

Over in the National Health Office building an emergency meeting was taking place, they'd identified the illness and had found that Paora's family were all infected and receiving treatment before the symptoms began. The problem was the people Paora had come into contact with before he got home, hundreds of people on the plane, those in the airport, his neighbours who came to say "welcome home", and then of course there would be their neighbours, their colleagues, the list would be endless and the staff at the NHO where working hard trying to trace them all. The reassuring thing was a simple course of anti-biotics would be effective in around 80% of cases, but only if caught early, the long ther disease went on the more difficult it would be to treat. The 24 hour incubation period also meant that it would be impossible to know who had and had not been infected immediately. Several doctors in the country had treated the illness when the War for Independence had raged. They'd been the ones liberating the prison camps where those poor souls inside had been used as guinea pigs for the disease, something the Seleucid's believed could be weaponised.

As the NHO began discussing measures to be taken to try and safeguard the population while at the same time avoiding panic a phone went. A member of the NHO took their mobile from their pocket and disappeared into a side room. Five minutes later they returned ashen faced. "I'm afraid I have potentially bad news, the strain of the illness had been confirmed as a 95% match with that used by the Seleucid's during their occupation. There is very little if any chance that this strain did not originate in RS." there was a murmur around the table. "I'm afraid we need to hand this over to the National Intelligence Agency" there was a nod of agreement. It seemed that even after all these years the Seleucids were still targeting them, still intent on their destruction. The only question remained, why target Paora?

Vicente Panganiban was among the few overseas workers that were allowed to come back home for good. The government promised him and about a thousand others higher wages for better jobs. It is a win-win situation, the workers get to stay back home and the government will have more helping hands. He was employed in Alba Karinya City to be a construction worker and back home, the government is offering ten times his former pay for being a supervisor of construction of multiple roads. Walking towards the train station, he smiled from ear-to-ear; nothing can compare to looking forward to seeing your family, your children, and most especially, your dog! However, his day was almost robbed when a man tripped near him, almost hitting him and spilling jelly all over him. Luckily, the man spilled it on a police or soldier. Vicente wanted to offer help but backed away a few inches, as he doesn't want to get involved in any trouble. Unbeknownst to him and countless other passengers, small fleas have started to bite him. The bites were hardly felt, but Vicente dismissed it as just numbness from the feeling of excitement and adrenaline. He then boarded the train to the Alba Karinyan airport, to which he rode first class to reward himself.

After a 10 hour rode with a connecting flight to Pardclinia before finally arriving to a small Quintelian International Airport in the rural province of Romblique, known for wide plains and farms, where he was met by hugs and kisses from his children and wife. With money to spare, they went to the only shopping mall in the city, to which is always busy. Completing their mini-shopping spree, the family of seven went home to their small and simple bungalow. There, Vicente's parents were preparing for a mini-fiesta as celebration that their family will be influential in the locale. From roasted pig to homemade coconut ice cream to rice wine and even invited the local priest. The long celebration, coupled with loud music and drinking, lasted for almost two days, before the whole family feel hungover. The next day, Vicente forced himself to go to work, meeting with his boss and those insert him for the first time. He noticed himself suddenly getting warmer but everything felt cold, so he took a tablet of Paracetamol and continued on with talking to his boss. An hour later, he fell unconscious, with his skin turning red then to black due to gangrene. Vicente was slowly rushed to the nearest hospital, which was an hour away, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Two doctors, one local and another from Lungsod, were assigned to perform an autopsy on the body. "His hands turned black, so can we confirm he died because of gangrene?" The local doctor asked, while holding Vicente's arms, blackened like charcoal, he started to cut through, with thick puss flowing out.

"Yup, that's gangrene ok." The city doctor remarked, before continuing. "But why did he easily die. The gangrene would take weeks to develop, and even then, there should be prior infection that hasn't been treated. So far, there's no other possible point of entry." He said to the local, who seemed keen on examining the arms.

He looked carefully at the skin and then exclaimed. "I've found it! There's insect bites here. Where did he come from again?" He put down the scalpel, placing it on a tray.

"Well, he came from Alba Karinya City. Why do ask..." He thought for a minute before continuing. "Are those flea bites?" He looked at the piece of skin that was allowed out. "Don't tell me it's bubonic plague."

His colleague sighed and slightly nodded before continuing. "Then how did it infect someone? He's just taken antibiotics." The local doctor, asked, continuing to extract puss and blood.

"Probably some terrorist made a supervirus that is resistant to antibiotics and even strengthened antibodies." The city doctor answered, examining the pores made by the bites. "I theorize that they developed it the same way we immunize someone. Expose the pathogen to weak lymphocytes until they develop a more complex antigen and organelles, rinse and repeat with stronger lymphocytes, add in antibiotics and boom, we've got this corpse on our hands; but we can't do anything about it now. We need to inform the Department of Health about this."

"Yeah, but I suggest to not let the media get their hands on it." The local doctor said, covering the corpse with a blanket. "Also, have the police to assemble a task force of finding those who made contact with him. From family and friends to his co-workers, and even those in the airplane with him." The two doctors sterilized their Protective Equipment before properly deposing it and going to their respective self-assignment.

OOC- Agreed with Dave

Over the 48 hours since they had discovered the source of the outbreak there had been several other patients present themselves with symptoms of the disease, they had been sent to Hunter's Bay hospital, it had essentially been shut down to accommodate the outbreak. The doctors had become rushed off their feet and had struggled to keep pace with what was happening. The bigger talks had gone on at government level, the cabinet, the tribal council and the King all meeting to discuss the information they had, around 200 patients, so far 18 dead and a shortage of anti-biotics. The King had contacted his counter-part in East Moreland, after all the OsmanTech company was one of the biggest drug manufacturers on the planet and as such where a useful contact to have.

It was during these discussions that the mention of the Seleucid contact had first come up, and of course the fact that East Moreland was now working on their own outbreak, some 120 people had presented with symptoms, so far 19 dead and a further 30 in AK City. It looked like they'd now got a global outbreak and all traced back to the camps that had plagued the creation of the Iwi. This was something that King Piripi couldn't ignore, he would be expected to take steps and he was determined to get justice for his men.

OOC - Don't mind me, just foundation laying.

The skies above Vaguzia were alive with the sound of horsepower, two Bat type fighters were running a scouting run through the Alps that were on the Vaguzian side of the border, they were flown by Lieutenant Kai Ward and Pilot Officer Reese Lott they were call signs Paradox and Scavenger respectively, their job for the day was part of ongoing counter terrorist operations that Achkaerin and Vaguzia were jointly carrying out in the area they were taking a look around to see what they could find on likely terrorist hideouts and supply points in their operational area. They pulled round over a flat area and spotted something.

"Control this is Paradox." Kai said getting on the radio "I've got movement in sector Hotel Nine down by the stream. Coming off route five."
"Control to Paradox any specifics?" came the response
"Convoy of trucks and pickups laden with crates proceeding in a northerly direction. Suspect weapons smuggling convoy." Kai said
"Received will notify ground troops, continue on patrol." the control officer said

As luck would have it there were two Achkaerin Special Forces Troops in the area these were Bronze Troop commanded by Major Xavier Crow and Midnight Troop commanded by First Lieutenant Charlotte I'Joula, Midnight Troop were up on the high ground and Bronze Troop were lower down.
"Midnight to Bronze." Charlotte said over her radio as she observed the convoy approaching through her sniper rifle scope "Have acquired target, we'll stop the vehicles and then support your assault."
"Have that." Xavier said, Charlotte took aim it was a simple enough theory wasn't it? Hit the driver of the lead truck and stop that truck and thereby association stop the convoy? She checked her aim and fired. The aim was true, the windscreen of the truck was shattered, the driver slammed on the brakes and then came the second shot taking out the driver. The sound of screaching brakes echoed up and down the valley
"Midnight weapons free." Charlotte said

Over the next few minutes the ASF troops went to work taking down the enemy until eventually Xavier issued the ceasefire order.
"Search and clear." Xavier said, they now started moving through the various vehicles opening up containers and trailers, it was as they'd suspected a shipment of weapons and judging from the dead bodies it was a WMRA convoy. But there was one nasty surprise waiting for them in the last trailer, three survivors all displaying signs of something oddly similar to something that had been in their morning briefing.
"Quarantine in effect." Xavier said almost instantly backing away, he didn't know what it was for certain but he knew the warning signs of biological warfare when he saw it "We need a decon team out here now."

A few hours later the bad news reached the ears of Brigadier Indigo Scott, from the lips of Sergeant Major Alya Simmons
"Bubonic Plague?" Indigo asked
"Yeah looks like it." Alya said "Possibly the same thing that's hit others."
"Risk factor?" Indigo asked
"The survivors are in quarantine, our troops are in quarantine and have been since a CMT team aware of the situation was on scene." Alya said
"Thanks." Indigo said, she glanced around looking for her aide eventually spotting him "Corporal get me the sat surveillance going back the last few hours of the ambush site and surrounding area."
"Yes ma'am." her aide said
"Please Namis let me be wrong." Indigo said almost prayerfully.

CLASSIFIED

OFFICIAL LETTER FROM THE QUINTELIAN DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

To King David of East Moreland, King Piripi of The Iwi and President Blackwind:

Greetings, your Majesties. It may seem to ba a surprise to you, but Quintelia has been affected by the plague as well. This hasn't been reported by the media as to reduce any widespread panic and resentment. Although already contained and quarantined in one town, it is still a major concern especially since 54 deaths have been reported with 386 cases reported in the town of Tubig, where nearly 34,000 people reside. I therefore call a meeting with either you or your Health Ministers to discuss about this deadly plague

Truly Yours,

Minister of Health, Doctor Francisco del Mundo

Peter Azurewind, the Achkaerinese Emperor, sat at the table in the Round Table Chamber in the Marble Palace. It wasn't the sort of meeting he'd really wanted to be having that day but circumstances were always going to dictate such things. Around the table sat members of the Cabinet and intelligence agencies with one of their number speaking via satellite from CMA HQ, that was Cheryl Holmes, the minister for Cross Mundus Affairs.

"Let's have it Cheryl." Peter said
"Your Majesty King Piripi has submitted a three point request to the CMA concerning the bubonic plague outbreak." Cheryl said "He wants independent verification to show whether or not it's the same strain that Royal Seleucid used against the Iwi, he wants a CMA resolution demanding an inspection of Seleucid facilities looking for the weapons and any precursors and he wants a restriction on Seleucid imports."
"Well we can't demand the inspection without proof." Peter said
"That's what I said Your Majesty." Cheryl said "I also offered Achkaerin as a nation able to verify the strain. Solonia and Bretonnia have also offered."

Peter nodded and looked around the table
"Ok Trini how do we do it?" Peter asked, he was looking at the Minister of Health Trini Malone
"We take a team approach." Trini said "There are confirmed cases in Alba Karinya City, the Iwi, East Moreland, Quintelia and Heyra as well as three suspected WMRA members our troops intercepted in Vaguzia. The Iwi will have a sample of the strain that Seleucid did use during the occupation. We send a team down to the Iwi to obtain that sample and samples from those affected by this outbreak plus any paperwork they have, we send similar teams to East Moreland, Heyra, Alba Karinya City and Quintelia they take samples and we then run all those samples against the strain used by Royal Seleucid against the Iwi thirty years ago. That will tell us if there's a match or not."

"And if there is?" Peter asked
"Your Majesty if there is a match then we have to question a few things." Mark Sharpe the national security advisor said "Identity of the strain gives a list of potential suspects, which means anyone on that list has questions to answer."
"Put it in motion." Peter said
"Your Majesty." Trini said "I'd like to consult with the MHO and ask them to gather their own samples and store them independently of any nation verifying."
"A fail safe?" Peter asked
"Yes." Trini said
"Do it." Peter said

Generals Demonia and Ellery watched their plane land at the city airport while their aides started to get their things ready and their guards started to check their weapons, ensuring that they were on safety and that they had no rounds in the chamber yet. As the pilots made their announcements and the rest of their companions were excited to see to the matter, the two Generals of the army of Sirinisi kept to themselves, speaking with Ellery taking the lead,

"So there's something up with Mundus, huh? That and the bubonic plague? I wonder what's going to happen next. With such events taking place, this must concern Sirinisi. We are emerging after all."

"Indeed. We should not waste this opportunity, Ellery. Anyway, do you have your documents ready?"

"They're with my aide. I have my own copies in my personal case. Yours?"

"Everything is on my person. No worry. Anyway, Ellery, I hope we have enough medicine, don't we?"

"We do. No worry. Now, all we have to wait is for our plane to land and stop moving. Then we move on."
Whatever you say, Walker. No matter what happens next, don't be too hard on yourself. After all you've done, you can still go home...

"Confirming Your Prejudices!"

"Spinning The Latest News"

Chaos Erupts in Empire Bay D.C and Shēnchéng as Buponic Plague claims Victims

Scene of Devastation in Time's Square, Empire Bay D.C as citizens panic

What was thought to be an ordinary day in the Bretonnian Republic, has turned into what is seemingly a 'Apocalyptic Nightmare' as described by a citizen who wished to be anonymous. In the past weeks, several nations of Mundus are experiencing a disease that was thought as an old relic from the Medieval Ages and now claims its victims like a swatter smashing flies, one after the other. Now it has reached Bretonnia, striking Alba Karinya's and Cotf Aranye's most important and significant banking and financial centres, with the stock markets fluctuating like rabids dogs, overcrowed hospitals as well as riots turned into sheer violence.

President Lavaud has therefore raised the threat level normally reserved to terrorism to its highest, taking as many precautions as possible, including the deployment of the National Guard assisting local law enforcement as well as the FBI in maintaining public order on the streets, distributing face coverings and masks, performing health checks in residences which is paramount due to the extreme density in these cities. Despite this, Lavaud emphasized the importance to continue the days as if nothing has changed , citing that the economy must continue to roll. It is currently unknown how many are carriers of the disease as well as the number of dead, though hospital directories cited announcing that 'It is currently on a controllable level, the riots and violence ongoing have been taken into an extreme and absurd level of nonsense..."

Please await further updates as the plague unfolds...

Sirinisi Wants To Help!

Listen to this while reading the article - OOC note

By: David Rein

The Triarchy of Sirinisi has emerged recently from a period of isolation. In this current era, the country is holding meetings with neighbors and other nations that sent their delegates to establish relations with the isolated nation.

Now, the Sirinisians are offering their assistance against the Black Plague. The government stated that they have readied their HAZMAT team and two teams from their military to protect them and to help them. The government said that they would be leaving their country to help out any nation that has been infected with the plague, in hopes to prevent the plague from coming to their own land as well.

The First Triarch said "We believe that, as gratitude for those who came to our shores as we emerged, this should be done. We know that this is only the first step. It isn't enough. So in the future, I promise that my country will take care of itself, it will be putting forth its best scientists and workers to solve the problem.
Whatever you say, Walker. No matter what happens next, don't be too hard on yourself. After all you've done, you can still go home...

Kara Thornton had had better days and been in better moods. The MDI that she headed up day to day had responsibilities involving Achkaerin's most powerful weapons so when this whole thing had come up, the bright sparks had of course decided to refer the matter to the MDI to do the comparison. Kara stepped into the lab and found waiting for her one of Achkaerin's foremost experts on weapons like this Elodie Gliss.

"I've got to get into this lab more often." Elodie said "You have all the cool toys."
"What have you got?" Kara asked
"We took ten samples from each of the affected nations, where the total infected was less than ten we took samples from all the infected." Elodie said, she indicated a large image being projected onto the wall "That's a close up of the sample used by Royal Seleucid during their occupation of the Iwi."
"So what happens when you compare that to the sample we obtained from the current outbreak?" someone else asked, Kara's second in command Matthew Kirby had walked into the lab.

"This." Elodie said she pressed a button and the samples taken were one by one graphically overlaid on the historical sample "There are some differences but this outbreak matches the historic sample to the tune of 98.8%."
"What differences?" Matthew said
"Environment." Elodie said "When compared to the sample from the 1980's there's a clear indication that the strain relating to the current outbreak originated in a different environment than the one grown in the Iwi during the occupation."
"Well that's expected." Kara said "If this is Royal Seleucid then they're not going to be able to develop it in the Iwi anymore are they?"
"The evidence is that there's a common source of this thing, balance of probability says that source is Royal Seleucid but that's not absolute." Elodie said
"Enough to ask the question though." Matthew said
"I'll write it up." Elodie said

Generals Demonia and Ellery waited for their plane until it stopped moving, the engines died and the doors were down. Their guards went out first, checking the area out and securing it for their VIPs to get out into without worrying about anything else. Both officers put on masks as their guards had. Once that was done, they went together, their guards forming a circle around them, keeping their guns down, their fingers off the triggers and their magazines ready.
