Its Tough To Be A God

In the beginning, there was the Earth. Barren and bare, it hovered in the deep darkness of nothingness. Not an animal stirred on its surface, nor a did a blade of grass flutter in the wind. It had been like this for generation, and would continue to be for millennium.

Till the dawn broke that was. With a ripping and tearing sound, the first ever sounds, a whole in the nothing opened. Beyond the hole, incomprehensible beings stared out, each with 16 faces and 109 hands. They were the Maljunuloj, beings of such power and might that existence was but a leaf to them. They peered out, and saw the universe before them, and dismayed. The world was not like their home, and it screamed at them.

The reality of the universe clashed with the reality of them, and they were driven out, in pain and in suffering. Behind them, their hole began to collapse in on itself, forming a brightprick of foreign light hanging in the darkness. The light shivered for a moment, before disappearing.

But the universe that had been granted brief light did not let it go. It pulled on it, forcing it to expand in every dimension. And everywhere the light touched, the universe cried and shrivelled, becoming unlike itself. Where once had been abyss became stars, where the rocky crags of Earth had stuck into the air, ferns and roots sprung up. Opening their eyes for the first time, man climbed out of the ground, forming from mud as the light spread. In the air, clouds condensed and formed into dioj, who opened their eyes to a realm of material fun and potential.
