The execution of one of the two recently convicted "heretics" has today taken place. Early in March Avitus Seneca and Ulysses Tatius were convicted of attempting to desecrate the Shrine of the Emperor. The two men had both been convicted of treason and sentenced to death by garrote. The sentence of death for Avitus Seneca has however been commuted to life imprisonment on the orders of the regent. The regent released a statement saying "While Avitus is guilty by a jury of his peers of a crime against the very Empire he has in the past served in the Armed Forces with a record of outstanding service and has been a member of our nations volunteer search and rescue lifeboat service. Having seen the evidence of the case I firmly believe that Avitus is a follower in this escapade and not a leader therefore he will have the oppurtunity to spend the rest of his life in prison."

The Regent, while not showing total clemency, did also intervene in the sentence of Ulysses Tatius. Originally Ulysses would have been executed by the garrotte however the Regent ordered a firing squad instead and the execution was carried out at 8am today. A spokesman for the Imperial Prison Service said, "At just before 8am members of the Inquisition Guard removed Tatius from his cell and after allowing him time for reflection and spiritual support was escorted to the execution room. There he was strapped into a specially designed chair and four members of the Guard, selected by lot, carried out the execution. Doctors pronounced him dead immediately following the gunfire and the body will be buried with the guidance of the criminals family."

The Regent said "Some may say this is a harsh way of dealing with someone but lets remember they did not accidently wander into the garden where the Emperors Shrine is, they did not accidently take filming equipment with them and they did not accidently try and avoid detection by members of our military who guard the Emperor. They knew full well what they were doing and they knew, as do all people in the Empire, the punishment for doing so. The grounds of the Shrine even include signs forbidding people getting onto the terrace the Shrine sits on. These men intended to try and damage the very foundations of the Empire and that is unacceptable."

The two individuals who had been caught breaking into the Shrine of the Emperor have been found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. Avitus Seneca and Ulysses Tatius were found guilty after just three hours of the jury deliberation. The Shrine of the Emperor is the most sacred site in the Empire and any non-Inquisition sanctioned individual entering, or attempting to, is committing the crime of "Disturbing the Emperors slumber" which is is considered treason. The two men stated in court that they had both served in the nations military as volunteers and now run a website dedicated to "non-mainstream news". As part of this website they have been accused of "Borderline heresey" by the Inquisition in the past for their attempts to show that the Divinatus faith is not real. The two men now have seven days to appeal their sentence with execution by garrote scheduled to take place on the 6th April should the appeal be unsuccessful. Legal experts believe that the men's best hopes now lie with the Regent who has the power to commute the sentence either to that of death by firing squad or life imprisonment.

Regent Maximus Astralix has today confirmed that he will, in the coming days, be making formal enquiries about the Empire becoming some part of the Southern Ocean Initiative. The move comes after a meeting of the Imperial Maritime Association, an industrial body established to support businesses making a profit from the oceans. Among the members include small fisherman's collectives all the way up to the nations largest construction dockyards. The membership stated that they believe that "the SOI is a body that has a wonderful vision for co-operation in the oceans that many of us work in everyday. By looking at working alongside neighbours there we ensure that we improve the safety of our own operations and furthermore we can boost our economic activity. We're hopeful that His Imperial Highness can make things work and look forward to how he handles this." The Regent has confirmed that he will be looking for talks with the membership in the coming days

The Adeptus Administratum has today begun the work of preparing for the annual review of taxes and conscriptions that take place every late spring. The process involves the Adeptus Administratum painstakingly reviewing data from each of the nations within the Empire to allow a fair and just negotiation to take place between the Empire and its constitute parts. Some of the figures released by the Adeptus Administratum however have raised concerns which have already begun to be addressed by the Regent Prince Maximus Astralix.

The first, and perhaps most worrying, piece of data is that the birth rate is falling. In 2014 the birth rate across the Empire was 8.7 births per 1000 people. This however has now dropped to around 7.2 per 1000. This slowing down in birth rates means that in the long term the nation may face shortages in labour, conscription and have difficultly covering the old age pensions of those retiring. The Regent however has stated that this is to be addressed swiftly. "I believe that family is important and that it forms the very cornerstone of the Empire. The Emperor fought to create this Empire not for personal glory but to ensure his family and those of his supporters were safe. It is our primary duty therefore to create, support and care for families. With immediate effect I have asked the Adeptus Administratum to begin preparing documents that would make it easier for families wishing to have children but findiing it difficult to do so. Our current health care provision will be extended to make accessing things such as IVF easier. Currently IVF is only permitted via our health care system if the mother is under the age of 30 and has a strong chance of it working. We will increase that age to 40 and allow doctors to take more of a gamble in terms of the likely success. In addition anyone wishing the process done privately and who has served five years in the military will be given financial support to do so. We have also begun a plan to lessen incidents of abortion but women need not fear a ban. Currently around 43 abortions per 10000 women take place annually. That figure is far too high for each human life is sacred. I would like to see a scenario where the only time abortion is used is for cases where the mothers life is in danger. To try and effect this we will make it part of the abortion process that a health care professional must offer the chance to speak with a representative of adoption agencies to offer this is a viable alternative. Mothers choosing to accept this meeting and subsequently go ahead with their pregnancy we shall support financially through their pregnancy and offer counselling after. It is our hope that this support will see more women carry to term and then have their child adopted into loving homes."

The second piece of data was the average family size. This had decreased from 2.1 children per family in 2014 to 1.8 in 2024. The Regent restated the importance of family. "Families are not just vital for increasing our population steadily. Mothers and Fathers are the first teachers in a childs life, they are their first doctors and nurses. Without the family we do not learn the vital social skills that we have in life nor do we learn to value the qualities of friendship, love, loyalty and respect. These are vital if we are to have a strong community. It is my dream that all families can flourish. We will therefore do our best to find extra funding for support for new families. I would like to see the figure of average family size closer to 3 than it currently is." The Regent has three children and four grandchildren.

Another downward trend was in terms of life expectancy. In 2014 this stood at 80.4 while in 2024 this has fallen to 79.8. The Regent said, "While this number is not a catastrophe it is a worrying trend. I can only think of various virus outbreaks in the last decade which will have made this fall. We must though do more to support people in their campaign for health."

Finally the report stated that obesity levels in adults had increased from 17% in 20214 to 19% by 2024. "This is an unacceptable trend. Every subject of the Emperor needs to be fit and healthy for when the time comes to face evil. We see people now reporting for military duty unable to do even the most basic of cardiovascular exercises. This obviously will also impact or life expectancy, fertility rates and several other key pieces of data. We therefore will begin addressing this as a priority. One concern we have is that many people are now eating processed foods which contain high amounts of fats and sugars on a daily basis. This needs to be addressed. We will be looking at longer term methods in the near future however a twin pilot project will take place in Catachan. Here students in schools will be given lessons on cooking from fresh ingredients hopefully meaning we equip them with the skills to have a better diet. We must though also address the means to have a better diet. We will therefore be giving each pupil a pre-paid debit card which can only be used in certain stores for unprocessed fruit and vegetables. This will amount to $10 per pupil per week. It is our hope this will begin to encourage more healthy eating habits. If the scheme is successful we shall examine other ways this can be rolled out across the whole Empire."

The Adeptus Administratum and the Regent will open negotiations with Catachan next week to discuss their annual payments and conscriptions.

Maximus had to admit that he thought the words of King David could perhaps be utilised to get a signature on the document, "This is not going to be needed for us as we shall deal with matters ourselves but it shall hold our enemies to task" he said the words to himself confident that perhaps they would be sufficient to reassure the people back home. "I'm grateful you're willing to give us an opportunity to sort this out when I return home." He took out a list from his pocket, it had been made with the various military consultations. "The aim of this unit, that we call the Rogues, is to mimic the way another nation fights in reasonably small scale situations. What we would like is to put together an inventory for around 500 men and an air element to operate. What we will need will be around around 50 armoured vehicles of various types ranging from IFV's, APC's to Tanks. We'd need around 10 Self propelled howitzers and anti air capabilities. For the air arm we'd like four or five helicopters and maybe an assortment of 10 or 12 combat aircraft. Now we're not looking for shiny and new, so for example if you've anything on the slate to be retired we'd consider giving it a home. Of course we'd also need small arms. While it may also be a push we'd like to look at some members of our forces coming and doing some hand over training with your equipment too."

Since the late 1970's the Empire of Tanith have maintained a military unit named the Rogue Detachment. This unit plays a vital role within the training of our forces. It operates not as a combat unit but purely as a training one with the significant role of preparing our fighting men and women for all kinds of operations. This forces does not conform to the usual tactical or military doctrines of the rest of our forces and aims to ensure our people are ready for anything. In addition to wearing non-Tanith uniform they also operate foreign equipment not available to the forces of our Empire. We have in the past maintained a stock of former Warsaw equipment fearing their Communism may take an anti-monarchy route. This equipment however is now outdated and we lack the ability to maintain it at a level we desire. As a result we are looking for a nation we believe we can work with to acquire a range of new equipment and work with to send members of the Detachment to acquire new tactical ideas. It is therefore my belief that your nations military have shown themselves to be very capable and therefore we would like to discuss the upgrades Rogue Detachment being based on equipment from East Moreland. I also wish to assure you that while in the past this decision was made to combat what was perhaps the biggest possible threat we have picked East Moreland as the nation we most desire to partner with because of some perceived cultural similiarities, quality of equipment and the fact that much of it is battle tested.

I would therefore like to meet with you, if possible in East Moreland, in order to work out whether this concept is of interest and if so to look at how we can acquire the much needed equipment.

Maximus Astralix was born in the Grand Citadel of Tanith Magna on the 16th July 1956. He was the second child of Octavia Astralix and his wife Mirabel. Maximus' older sister Galla was born in 1954 and unlike her birth Maximus saw three days of feasting as it was securing the bloodline of the Emperor. Maximus was therefore treated with great care by the family until in 1960 he got a little brother called Albinus. With the birth of what is affectionately known as "a spare" the Imperial Family became less cautious with Maximus. As a child he revelled in the freedom of being from such an influential family and was rather adventurous.

In 1966 he was enrolled at the Castellan, a specialist school connected to the Imperial Guard. This has been a family tradition going back centuries since the school was established in the early 1700's. There he was subject to strict discipline and alongside normal scholastic subjects learned basic military skills and leadership. He was a keen member of the schools Boxing club and considered a rather decent rugby player. His school records show that he was subject to "administrative discipline" on only two occasions, once for failing to follow his housemasters instructions regarding tidying a communal area and the second for being on parade without a whitened cross belt. In 1972 he sat the "Small Castellan" which is an exam designed to find the best and brightest students for progression to the real Officer Training College. Rather than there be a passing grade the score required is determined by the Officer Training College taking only the top 2% who take the exam. Maximus finished at roughly 5% and therefore, much to his fathers disappointment, failed to gain entry. He spent the remaining two years of his education with the pressure of not just the Castellan but also with his father insisting on extra tuition to ensure he didn't fall behind despite being relatively smart. In 1974 he graduated and as his father insisted joined the military

In 1974 Maximus reported for basic training and after passing the 16 week "Basic Soldering Course" was assigned to the 1st Tanith Regiment of Foot as an officer. He was quick to adapt to military life and as well as being a well respected officer he was also part of a close knit group of officers who used to regularly go partying when on leave. The group began getting a reputation for burning the candle at both ends and their commanding officer became concerned that this could lead to problems. In 1977 the commanding officer of the 1st Tanith made the decision that Maximus would be moved to a different regiment, on the surface so as to gain more experience and thus get fast track promotions however this was more to split the drinking club up. He was sent to join the Vostroyan Firstborn Regiment, which caused some controversey as the regiment usually did not accept those not born in Vostroyan. Due to being the Regents son and heir to the title he was though given a chance to prove himself. The strict discipline of the Vostroyan culture and their military ethos appealed to him and while still keeping in touch with his drinking buddies his military career went from strength to strength.

In 1985 having reached the rank of Captain he undertook an attempt to join the Tempestus Scions and lasted 20 weeks in the 22 week selection process before failing on one of the test required by those who wish to join. He returned to the Firstborn and became a Major in the units much respected Delta Battalion which acts as the units effective strom troopers. In the period between 1987 and 1990 there was periodic terrorist activities in Catachan and Maximus and his regiment were part of actions against guerrilla forces. Following the ending of this conflict he was for a brief time put in charge of the Firstborns inductions and then having reached the rank of Lt-Col in 1994 was ordered to leave the military by his father.

Maximus' father had insisted that he leave the military following the death of the leader of the Adeptus Mechanicus. With this key position needing to be filled quickly Maximus was appointed as the Workmaster General. This role put him in charge of key nationalised industries such as railway and electricity production. During his time in this role he encouraged the Empire to focus on being independent for energy supply and instituted a system of nuclear power stations. In addition he attempted to establish a railway network that better integrated local, regional, national and intercontinental connectivity. Having done a reasonably good job in this field he was next moved to the Adeptus Administratum where he was made Administrator General. This meant he negotiated directly with the different regions of the Empire to ensure a fair amount of taxation and military conscription took place. He earned a reputation for being a difficult negotiator and on several occasions his father was concerned about the prospect of potential military action taking place however under his control the Empire remained stable and the Imperial coffers were kept full.

In 2002 however his father died and he became Regent

Following the death of his father it was a mere formality that Maximus became Regent. In short order he remembered his old drinking buddies and began appointing them to key positions within the Imperial machine. During his time as Regent he has had the following focuses.

1. Move the Empire away from its traditional base of heavy industry where such things as heavy machinary, mining equipment, military hardware and other relatively low tech but significant equipment was made to an economy based on more high tech manufacture.

2. First he aimed to ensure the stability of the Empire internally. While the Empire was relatively peaceful there were various parts where guerilla wars were being fought. Maximus has now dealt with these rather effectively and has now stated that his focus will shift to be more continental in outlook.

3. Maintenance of what could be considered Conservative family values and traditions.

4. A strict regime within schools to promote Imperial values.

5. Being hard on criminals to ensure law and order.

In 1977 Maximus meet Lady Valeriana Aquila. She is the daughter of the former Prince of Vostroya which has effectively become Maximus' adopted homeland after his military service. The two were introduced at the Firstborn Regiments annual banquet and became close in the months that followed. In 1978 the pair married. They have since had three children.

Avitus Vibius - The Regents eldest child was born in 1980. He is considered to be more of a follower than a leader. He currently serves as a staff officer in the Aeronautica Imperialis. He has two sons, one born in 2014 and the other in 2018.

Tatiana Porcius - She was born in 1984 and is currently a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus and widely expected to be the next Workmaster General. She has a son born in 2009.

Tacitus Liber - The Regents youngest child was born in 1988 and is widely considered the more likely of the two sons to become the next Regent. He is a graduate of the Officer Training College having scored in the top 1% of candidates on his year of entry. He has a degree in physics and is currently serving in the Imperial Guard as part of the Imperial Light Rangers. He has a son born in 2017.

The Imperial Guard is the ground forces of the Empire. They began as the personal military of Emperor Auerlius Drakonius and as military doctrine and technology changed so did the size and make up of the Guard. The Imperial Guard may sound like the name of a Regiment but is in fact the name of the whole Army. The Guard is structured into various Regiments. The infantry Regiments tend to have its members drawn from the same region of the Empire for example the 32nd Harakoni Regiment are all drawn from the small Duchy of Harakon. Units such as Engineers, Armour or Artillery are drawn from across the Empire.

The military practice a system where each year every part of the Empire has to contribute a number of soldiers. This is done by first of all asking for voulenteers, if this fails to put a region above their quota then conscription takes place on a lottery basis on everyone aged between 18 and 21. If selected you must serve three years in the military, if however you are at University you can defer your service if selected until after graduation.

The nation has a number of elite regiments that other nations may consider Special Forces.

Tempestus Scions - These are voulenteers who undergo a strict 22 week selection process which is a combination of physical training and teaching military skills. Only around 15% of those who start the selection finish with those failing along the way being given the option of joining a regular unit or leaving the armed forces. Once they have passed selection the individuals start a 19 week training programme designed to teach more specialist skills. Tempestus Scions are often called upon to covertly insert into combat zones and strike targets behind enemy lines.

Kasrkin - These are considered to be the elite of the elite. These are members of the Tempestus Scions or Adeptus Pugnae who have served a minimum of five years. Those wishing to become a Kasrkin must complete a gruelling 26 week selection process. At the end of which those who complete the training earn a black beret and are assigned to a Patrol Squad of four members. While given a high level of training in all skills required by special forces each patrol squad member specilaises in one key skill of the four avaliable (medic, airborne, amphibious, demolitions).

Current Strength - Approx 125,000 men (Not including conscripts)



The Aeronautica Imperialis is the Empire's Air Force. It was formed in 1944 after the merger of the air wings of the Army and Navy. Unlike the Army and Navy the Air Force does not accept conscripts and all units are mixed from across the Empire. They are tasked with providing air support for other parts of the military however the Navy does maintain a small air wing of its own. There is an elite group within the Aeronautica Imperialis known as Obscuri Nuntii which are responsible for providing support to covert operations in terms of inserting teams and utilising reconessance aircraft for gathering information.

Current Strength - Approx 61,000 men.


The Navis Imperialis is the Empires Navy. It is responsible for defending the Empire from seaborne invasions and projecting the Empires status across the world. It maintains a fleet of ships for use on the oceans as well as a small number for patrolling the waterways of the Empire. It is also is responsible for the nations coastguard duties in terms of things such as search and rescue and stopping smuggling.

While the Navies primary duties are done by a range of vessels the Navis Imperialis maintains a small aviation element to conduct operations from off vessels. While most of this is from helicopters there are a few fighter pilots for carrier type aircraft.

Current Strength - Approx 51,000 Sailors


The Adeptus Pugnae are also often called the Marines and are technically part of the Navy. Their role was originally to act as sharpshooters in ships rigging in the 18th Centuries however today there are two parts of the force. The first part is the Amphibious Task Force, these are the rank and file of the unit and provide a combination of security onboard ships as well as undertaking amphibious operations. The second part is the Pathfinders who are essentially amphibious commandos and often insert covertly and undertake operations such as scouting, directing strike operations and destroying logistics.

Current Strength - Approx 4,500 Marines.

In the 1st Century B.C in the region of what is today known as Tanith a prophecy was established by the Divinatus religion that at some point in the future a great saviour or Messiah type figure would emerge and would be God in human form. The region was divided by several warring tribes who constantly bickered and argued leading to great devastation. This continued throughout the first few centuries of AD chronology until in the 11th Century when the region had become inhabited by several Kingdoms. At that time invaders from another continent invaded the region and began enslaving people and destroying settlements. The Divinatus faith began preaching that this was the end of days and there are even recorded examples of mass suicides in the face of the approaching invaders. At this point a warlord by the name of Aurelius Drakonius began recruiting soldiers from across the region who were committed to saving their faith, culture and homelands. He was successful and having driven the invaders out of the region formed the Empire of Tanith with Aurelius as the Emperor. On the day of his coronation on the 4th March 1004 AD the Ecclesiarch, who is the highest ranking religious figure in the Divinatus faith, declared that not only was Aurelius the Emperor he was the prophesised Messiah, and therefore God in human form. The Empire was established with the constant fear of a return invasion and as such each summer each of the Kingdoms was expected to pay a levy to the Emperor in two forms, the first in the form of money or goods, the second in the form of a military levy. Some regions began to offer soldiers with "pre-training" in order to be of more value and as such negotiated for a lesser payment of the first form of taxation. Other Kingdoms meanwhile had large supplies of raw materials such as tin or iron and would use this as negotiation. Every spring therefore a Grand Assembly took place where a body known as the "Adeptus Administratum", like a civil service, worked out each Kingdoms requirements. In 1044AD the invaders returned and found a well organised and disciplined resistance lead by an aging Aurelius and his son Octavian. The two drove the invaders out again and carried out a successful counter-attack adding more territory to the Empire. During this however Aurelius was wounded and nursed by the Adeptus Ministorum (Priesthood). While his physical form was dying the Ecclesiarch made a new prophecy that the Emperor was immortal in spiritual form and that his still living body would be placed in a special chamber where it would allow him to live on forever in isolation. As such today technically Aurelius Drakonius is still the Emperor of Tanith and is considered God. Today this descendants rule as Regent with the title passing down from son to son. If no male heir is avaliable then the heads of the various orders such as the Adeptus Administratum and Adeptus Ministorum select a new Regent from the wider family.
