Diplomacy and Events / Re: Invitation to a New Empress' Enthronement
« on: December 05, 2018, 05:05:57 AM »

Andrew couldn't help but smile at Leopold. The man was approachable and had an easy way about him.

"I accept your kind invitation. I have always wanted to visit Lodja, and what better time than a wedding? Allow me to introduce Dr. Camryn Hopkins of East Moreland."

Andrew chuckled at the mention of a "wee distillery"

"I will to be sure to bring a case or two of Somerset Special Reserve, and between us we shall endeavor to thoroughly explore the finer points of each other's native spirits."

Alys flashed Beatrice a huge smile and shot her a sly wink. The clumsy insult of calling her Ms. Arsenault thrilled Alys, proof in her mind that the rumours of First Empire's decline and eventual fall were well on the way. As Beatrice walked off, Brassicus turned to her and asked his question.

Quote
"Alys, was the Empress... referring to anything while she said stuff about accidents?"

"She threatens you my love. People around me have accidents, and you are certainly around me. I think she means to have you killed. Peterhoff is a lovely boy, but still a boy. With you gone, and likely me as well, Rokkenjima will assert it's influence on poor Cabbagelandiet and rule in all but name. Even if I survive her attack, I will still be marginalised by that Imperial Harpy...unable to avenge you, unable to save Cabbagelandiet and unable to help young Peterhoff. If you doubt me, just look at the so called 'runaway Anusa'. I doubt it's as unguided as they would have us believe."

Harper Rhodes found herself to be in an unusual position...the first to arrive to a diplomatic event. As agreed between the members of House Rhodes, Harper would take the lead for this event. The official party was actually quite large this time around. Joshua, Harper, Evanthe, Josiah, Andrew and Camryn all made the trip to Avalon. As Harper looked over the itinerary, Andrew sat next to her.

"This is quite the honour for the Old Man." Said Andrew.

"Yes. I only wish he could have been here to see it for himself."

"Well, we definitely can refine the bauxite and it is only prudent to have language in our contract to account for evolving economies. As your economy evolves from raw materials into more refined and finished products, Seaforth would be keen to aid you in that."

Andrew paused as Emperor Benson explained the Vodou situation

"Ah. I'm sorry I misunderstood. Religion is a private affair here, now. There are no barriers to Vodou, it's practitioners or religious sites so long as they meet the requirements for immigration, VISAS, building codes, real estate laws or any other applicable convention. I can see that it would be a major victory for you politically and I wish you the best of luck in that regard."

" I understand your concerns King Pirirpi. These are truly detainment camps, just as law enforcement detains suspects we simply find ourselves with the need to detain agreat many people with the Tamorans rattling their sabers. Religious and otherwise. We did have a riot at our camp in the recent days. It was a terrible tragedy, I admit, but one that could  not be helped. I would truly hate your first visit here to consist of inspecting that camp. The optics are horrible on that. However, if you insist. A tour can be arranged and you can see it with your own eyes. It is a detainment camp to be sure, but if the detainees behave, there is no danger to their health or welfare. It is surely NOT in the same realm as those run by the Seleucids."

Minister Ward,

My sister Harper and I are both humbled that the university would choose to honour our late father in such a manner. It gives me great pleasure on behalf of House Rhodes to accept this invitation. My father was a firm believer in life-long education and of all the acknowledgements and honours he could have or did recieve, I know in my heart that this would have been his most cherished.

Fair Winds,

Andrew Rhodes was feeling pretty good. A coronation was always a happy affair and this one would be extra special. Camryn Hopkins had managed to swap shifts at the hospital and was making the trip with him, along with young Josiah Rhodes. The lad was making his second international appearance, after the dedication of the temple in Bakkermaya went so well. As they deplaned he held hands with Camryn and Josiah and scanned the other parties. The usual suspects were present of course. Achkaerin, East Moreland and Seaforth were beginning to turn the corner and bringing true stability to their region. To balance that the relatively new Cabbagelandiet was making some interesting waves on the other side of Mundus. Andrew wondered idly if Alys would make an appearance.

Alys was of course, awake, and had been for some time. Merely feigning continued sleep to gather her thoughts and enhance her calm. This would mark a key moment for her. Batting her eyes and stretching Alys took the opportunity to prepare herself for the occasion. As she fixed herself in the planes bedroom she gave an approving nod in the mirror.

"Your're still a 10, girl."

With sparkling eyes and a wide smile, she joined Brassicus and arm in arm they headed to the welcoming committee.

Dear Head of EMIS,

1) I am a worshiper of Materna. I am not nor have I ever been a member of the Sorority.

2) The Spice Harvest was hosted in a nation allied to East Moreland and a member of the CNN.

3) As I have not relinquished my titles, I am still Grand Duchess of Marseille albeit in exile.

4) With the poor showing of a so called intelligence branch, I request that you release the entire, unedited video so we confirm your assertations. Including the part where Mr. Redfern was manhandled off the estate.

5) For any other inquiries, please see my previous response. I believe it was recieved by your embassy in  Ui Cenneslaig.

Kind Regards,

Alys Arsenault
Grand Duchess of Marseille

99

Alys allowed Brassicus II to help her shrug into the coat.

"It's lovely to have met you both." Said Alys, tossing a playful wink at Peter.

Allowing herself to be led to the coast, Alys was slightly confused. Marseille did in fact have beautiful warm beaches. She didn't have much time to react however as Brassicus blasted her with the ultra forward question.

"Checking up on me dear? Looking for the skeletons in my closet? Fear not Lahana, my husband is quite dead. Murdered I'm sure. My country highjacked, my husband murdered I did what I had to. I disappeared. I had my son. I kept him safe."

Here Alys paused for a moment, gathering herself.

"Part of the reason Marseille was highjacked was I allowed it to be. I had...personal problems. I was...I am...an addict. So part of what I did was to get clean. Two years now, in fact. I'm not proud of who I was, but I am proud of who I am now, and I owe it to my son that I make a future for him. The best I can. He is the true King of Seaforth, the Dauphin of Marseille...he is more than an addicts son and deserves more as well. King Andrew acknowledged that and made my son a Baron. It's a small start, but a start nonetheless."

Alys stopped and tugged on Lahana's hand pulling him into her. Reaching up with her other hand she held his cheek and looked deep into his eyes.

"If that's too much...if I'm not the one for you...I beg you to tell me now. I will understand. I will get back on that plane and leave as your friend and remember our dance at the Spice Harvest and perhaps join you for tea one day...but I won't be what I was...I won't be just one more coat lying about the palace."

" I believe an embassy in your capital will be sufficient for now, with independent offices for each principality under our ambassador. I will also instruct each representative of Seaforth to make weekly visits to each of their assigned principalities. I think this will be an excellent start and I am of course open to individual consulates at a later time, when our relationship has grown some."

"While our own aluminum industry is not as strong as yours, it is present. If it's just raw ore you are talking about..that I could do, but not processed aluminum. The fruits, vegetables, rubber, electronics, automobiles can also be accomidated. I believe we will be able to help you most of all with the refined chemicals. The major Seaforthian shipping corporations have recently partnered with PAL shipping from Quintellia to increase the security of shipped goods. I daresay joining that alliance would smooth over your relationship with customs to a very high degree."

"With our troubles with the Seaforth Catholic Church and the uncovered horrors it caused, we, as a people are very finicky these days about religion. We are a secular nation with freedom of religion, but a separation of church and state. What a person believes and practices at home is their own business as long as it does not violate any of our basic laws or human rights. There is no barrier to purchasing land or a building and making it a religious site of Vodou. Religious workers would need to apply for a work VISA the same as any other person, though in your case, since there are unlikely to be any Seaforthian Vodou instructors to compete with, I see that as a very small barrier to overcome."

Maritime Security Alliance

The Maritime Security Alliance was initially formed by the three largest shipping companies of the Kingdom of Seaforth in the wake of a significant upswing in global terrorism and heavily using existing shipping practices. Seeing the need for secure shipping and their customers desire to transport good with a significantly smaller chance of contamination by terrorist and criminal groups these shipping companies took it upon themselves to increase security at their port facilities throughout Mundus.

These security measure include bonded warehouses, the hiring of veterans and former law enforcement, the employment of chemical, bomb and drug sniffers and scanners, both of the technological and dog variety. These measures result in the most safe and secure means of shipping on Mundus.

During the formation, the three companies were contacted by the CEO of PAL Shipping. After a series of meetings, the four companies founded the Alliance. Charging higher rates for it's services, responsible nations and corporations have flooded the alliance with orders. The Maritime Security Alliance is allowing membership to reputable shipping corporations willing to accept the stringent security regulations of the alliance.

Kravec listened to the young girl speak so succinctly, mentally gauging her points. He gave Sakura a sly smile when she hit on the attention the crucifixtion  garnered, acknowledging the astute observation...though she wasn't quite there all the way.

When Sakura had finished, Kravec hit a button on his desk and a female close protection agent came to escort her to a private washroom. This gave Kravec, Bathory and Radvak a chance to discuss the opportunity among themselves...another veteran move Kravec was mildly impressed with.

When Sakura had returned refreshed, Kravec offered her refreshments. That taken care of he casually leaned back on the edge of the large Presidential Desk and crossed his arms.  Slowly he began.

"Dilara Highaghi was tried, convicted and sentenced in a Slavan court. I merely confirmed the sentence. Slavery is an ancient practice, barbaric in it's existence. Crucifixtion is also an ancient and barbaric practice. The punishment must suit the crime. If Tamora insists on keeping alive this practice so will we. You see, the crucifixtion is much more of a statement than an execution. A sign that we will meet fire with fire, a sign we will not bow before the Manist disease that lives on the souls of those chained. This execution is our Oriflamme, our war banner. It is a our pledge to a new crusade, this one against the Manist slavers."

"I hope this DOES shout louder than the Tamorans. I hope it serves as a rally cry for all of Mundus! 40 Million slaves in Tamora and you come HERE to talk about one guilty slaver? Deus Vult! God sent you here for a reason! To witness the first day of a GREAT CRUSADE!"

Here Kravec scooped up her hands in his, his voice dropping to barely over a whisper.

"I know God sent your here to join us. The Holy Empire of Achkaerin will join us on this crusade of liberation...and I will give you this gift to seal our commitment. Dilara will die by crucifixtion, but I will give you the power of choice. We can raise her up and death will take days upon the cross, or...once raised we can break her femurs with sledges and she perishes within hours,"

Once again, Yosef Orloff found himself waiting to escort a foreign dignitary to meet the President. This time, however, it was anticipated to be a much warmer reception. For one thing, Vedran Marek was not there, for another, the Maori had suffered at the hands of the Seleucid just as much as the Slavans against the Tamorans. With the border dispute raising tensions in the area, Slava Lavosk needed all the friends it could find.

King Pirirpi and his cousin were ushered into the offices of the president.

"King Pirirpi, thank you for accepting my invitation. I welcome the chance to speak with the leader of a nation walking a similar path as ours. I fear for the future of the Midaranye and would welcome your friendship in moving towards a peaceful stability in the region."

The security guard nodded curtly at Cairan and waved him into the room. 599 was actually a security checkpoint where Cairan and his guest were searched and made to step through a scanner, extremely similar to the security checkpoints at major airports.

When they had passed, they were sent to the door to the adjoining room. It was not a room however, but a long hallway where rooms should have been. The hallway extended all the way to the corner of the hotel and then turned the corner and went down at least on more room-length before ending at a door.

Entering the door Cairan found more security and a staircase up to the next floor. From that "Room" Cairan was shown back the way he came to the corner suite once again. More security ushered him inside. There, Cairan was FINALLY introduced to Leary.

"Mr. Duggan. Sorry to have inflicted my security measurements on you, but a man in my position cannot be too careful. As one businessman to another I hope you can appreciate that. These are my private offices and only those special partners, or those I think could be are invited here. Now, can I offer you and you lovely guest a refreshment?"

Joshua nodded sagely.

"I will refrain from commenting on Alex. Frankly, the little shit has grown on me and I wouldn't want to cause harm where there is harm enough. I have also taken the liberty of inviting Andrew here as well. I feel there are some things we need to iron out between Rokkenjima and Seaforth...but in the meantime...."

Joshua leans over and kisses Evanthe. Camera fades to black. Giggling can still be heard.

So here Alys found herself, in the ass end of Albion. With the snowfall actually making it feel warm, the flakes fell fluffy and light upon her cheeks. As she exchanged pecks with Brassicus II, he then ran off to fetch her a coat, fur she hoped. Alys wondered idly if the man had some form of ADHD. It was no matter though, the man was charming and polite, something she had not seen much of in the last few years.

As Peter introduced himself, Alys smiled slyly to herself, clearly catching the false introduction.

"Why you must be Peter! Lahana has been telling me about his family. My name is Alys and I am a dear friend of your father's."

Seaforth Fish And Wildlife Issues Warning

The Seaforth Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a Wildlife Warning. The Seaforth Golden Bear is the largest of its kind and, with the recent upswing in population is coming into contact with people much more frequently. It is very important to stress bear safety when walking in the wilderness. Hikers campers and explorers are encouraged to wear small bells and to carry peoper spray when out in the Seaforth wildlands. Fish and Wildlife also encourages people to know the differences between the types of bears in Cofy Aranye and Alba Karinya. Black bears are small and subsist mainly on berries, fish and what they can scavenge. Black bear scat tends to be smaller elongated pellets. Grizzly Bear scat is not pelleted, but is found in larger piles of dung consistent with a diet that includes larger prey. Golden Bear scat is found in the largest deposits and often contains bells amd smells like pepper spray.

Pryde listened stoically as Ryoko made her statement. Ryoko had most of it. except the fact Seaforth DID agree to the international trial...as they knew it would be their only shot at Brook. Now several years after the death of he father, most spent at the sides of Andrew Rhodes and Thorin Crow, he could easily pick out the differences between Saki Ryoko and the Achkaerin official narrative. When the real Ryoko drifted out to the forefront, Pryde found her words rang much more true. When she finished, Pryde held her gaze for a few seconds before almost visibly making up his mind. Nodding once sharply, almost to himself, Pryde turned back to Carpenter.

"I like this one." Said Pryde.

Leaning back against the wall, he shot a wink at Ryoko.

"I'm in."

Slava Lavosk Mines Gulf Of Aaraxis

With the further military escalation in the Midaranye Slavan military units are finally mobilized. The Slavan navy has put to sea in the Gulf of Aaraxis with the SLS Lavosk, the flagship of the Slava Lavosk Navy conducting a live fire missile exercise. That completed, the rest of the fleet has reportedly begun to mine the Gulf Of Aaraxis. Confirmed reports indicate the fleet is mining the edges of its territorial waters with unconfirmed reports that Slavan vessels are also dropping mines further out into the gulf, in international waters.

According to President Vaclav Kravec, the increased readiness comes directly as a result of the IRN Excelsior's announced deployment to the Gulf of Aaraxis and the subsequent response from Royal Seleucid. President Kravec also acknowledged the suspension of the SmartWar license, reflecting that the patrol buggies were "invaluable to the security of our border". The President thanked SmartWar for it's assistance and vowed to renew the business relationship when feasible. To Protect SmartWar property, President Kravec has ordered the withdrawal of the buggies from the border until such a time as they can be returned to SmartWar or the license is renewed by King David. With the resulting loss of detection and interdiction ability in the removal of the SmartWar buggies, the Slavan military has moved several artillery and air defense batteries in to cover "near-border" engagements.

Sadly, the highly effective patrol buggies are already missed. An incursion occured shortly after the withdrawal of the buggies. In the early morning hours, Tamoran citizens, who would have been detected and interdicted by the buggies were found deep within Slavan territory. These Tamoran civilians, beleived to be active in the slave trade, engaged with slavan troops and retreated to the Tamoran border. There, Tamoran Border Guards, believeing their people to be under attack, took the Slavs under fire. In the ensuing skirmish, The Tamoran Border Guards  crossed over into Slava Lavosk. The entire incident resulted in 3 Tamoran Border Guards dead in Slava Lavosk and once captured. The captured Tamoran soldier was returned, along with the bodies of the other Tamorans soldiers. The bodies of 2 dead Tamoran citizens were retained for identification and 7 Tamoran citizens were sent to the detainment camps for identification and questioning. Slavan authorities report 4 of thier own border guards were killed and another two injured.

King Piripi,

My deepest sympathies for the hurt your nation has suffered at the hands of the Seleucid. It is truly a time in Mundus where right thinking nations must band together for mutual survival in the face of aggression such as we see from the Seleucid's and Tamoran's. Unfortunately, with the escalating situation on my border and now coast, I cannot leave Slava Lavosk at this time. I would, however, be delighted establish a dialogue here in Slava Lavosk. In light of the situation, I will authorize increased security arrangements regarding Maori elements in Slavan territory as your personal protection is important to me. I look forward to meeting you in person.

Riot Suppressed At Detention Camps.

Detainees at the Tamoran internment cap in Slava Lavosk descended into animal like behavior, throwing garbage, food and feces around thier camps, into guard shacks and at guards. The scene of anarchy caused several thousand dollars in damages and injured 3 guardsmen. In response, the Slavan guards were forced to protect themselves and the other detainees as well by actively suppressing the riot. The susequent violence caused by the detainees resulted in the deaths of 63 detainees and the further injury of two more guards.

President Kravec decried the violence accusing the Tamorans of showing thier true colours as a “pack of wild animals, with subhuman intelligence and no moral or higher purpose.” Kravec further commented “Is it no wonder they see no problem with slavery. They should all be in chains, no better then a manged dog.”

Raymond Leary puffed on his fine cigar as he contemplated the letter. Swirling the dregs of ice in his 25 year old Seaforth whisky, he idly tapped a large gold ring on the crystal glass. After another minute he set down the cigar and whisky and called in his son, David.

"Yeah, dad?"

"This Duggan sounds interesting. Have your boys make contact and arrange a meeting. Use someone you trust, with all the appropriate cut outs...and nothing to tie into our legit businesses."

"Ok dad, I'll handle it."

Aidan Pryde looked thoughtfully at Carpenter and kicked at some splinters of wood on the floor.

"You know I respect your commitment to your ideals, Tim, but that's enough ambition to choke a badger. How do you expect us to influence our countrymen when basic morals can't even stand up in many of our countries. Helus damn it! Just look at Tamora...look at what an empty promise the MCUR is...and you were Secretary General of the CTO for Helus' sake.

Pryde then turned on Ryoko

"And don't think I've forgotten about your fucking Emperor and the fucking arrogance it took to deny my father's murderer the justice he deserved. It took years for us to get Brook because apparently 28 Achkaerinese are worth more than 6000-odd Seaforthians."

Pryde set his gaze on Carpenter once again.

"If this 'Shadow CTO' is going to work it truly does have to be for the greater good, and that means sometimes going against the leadership of your own country. It's not an easy thing to do, but it's something I have actually done...twice in fact. Operation Red Crown and the Eugenics War. It requires taking a risk on moral grounds, to put everything on the table. I need to know that the rest of you will do that...and I need to hear this one..."

Pryde points a finger at Ryoko.

"...say that she would have done everything in her power to have Pytor Brook turned over to Seaforth when he was requested."

President Kravec accepted the gift and idly placed on his desk, nodded a greeting at Viola.

"This is Admiral Konrad Radvak, my chief military advisor and Markus Bathory, Foreign Secretary." Said Kravec waving a hand in their general directions.

"What mutual concerns could we have? Slava Lavosk is a pariah. The Kingdom of Lavosk was thriving, the careful steward of Slava Major and Slava Minor. The Great War changed all that. Your friends in Sesforth destroyed us, eliminated most of the nobility. Broken and bereft, we had little choice but to become a USR puppet." Said Radvak.

"Now, now Konrad." Said Kravec. "Konrad and Markus here are remnants of that nobility...but he does have a point. Does it really take a crucifixion to gain the attention of the Holy Empire? You want talking points, very well then. Tamora must not be allowed to continue profiting off of slave labour. They walk among the nations of Mundus, unaffected by the stigma of slavery. They are sanctioned only by damned Seaforth of all nations. The nations of Mundus, yours included have sanctioned, blockaded and attacked many other countries for much, much poorer reasons. Why now are the Slav's relegated to nothingness and Tamora held up in respect? Why do your precious treaties mean nothing? Answer me that."

Vignettes / Re: Seaforth Vignettes

Following the Spice Harvest, Alys Arsenault had flown back to Seaforth. She missed her little Raymond terribly, but the danger to his life meant hiding him from those that would hurt him. The long flight did give her something precious however, time to think. Andrew was more clever than she had imagined and had boxed her out of Troyes fairly quickly, though she wasn't done there...and one or two moves could pay off at a latter date.

Speaking of dates, she though to herself, Brassicus II was a totally unexpected development...the potential...the power. He was an interesting little man...and the possibilites there were endless. Idly she mulled over the idea of the Trans-Albion Empire. One to rival any entity on Mundus....but that was the long game. She read Brassicus' invitation again, and sent off a quick acceptance. She had things to do in Seaforth first.

Undisclosed Location In Seaforth

The small country cemetery was quaint. Tall trees in red and gold walled in the residents, their leaves blanketing the ground and obscuring the stones. It was, in a word, rustic...and a far cry from where the person she came to see grew up. There was no need to read the stones as she walked, she knew exactly where she was going. She had visited many times over the past couple of years, spending many hours talking to the silent stone marking the grave of the person she both knew intimately and not at all, searching for...answers? No. Something else. Something she didn't know yet.  Reaching the gravesite, she kneeled down and brushed the leaves away from the headstone.

"Well, it's me again." Said Alys. "I can't stay and talk to today, but I wanted to see you. Things are moving fast, now. So much to do."

Standing back up she brushed the debris off her legs and contemplated the stone for another minute or two, gazing at the Seaforthian spelling. So troubled, the young woman had finally succumbed to her demons. Alys hoped in death, she found the peace she never could in life...but she could offer a small peice of that now.

"Don't worry, love. I will look after Raymond for you."

Dropping the roses she carried onto the stone, "Alys" turned and headed back.

Arc-Royal Bene Gesserit Gaelscoil

His mother had taken him to start a new school deep in the Seaforth country. She held his hand as they were shown the grounds and the classrooms and dorms. It was scary and exciting all at the same time. He knew momma would leave him there. It was ok, she often left...but she always came back when she said she would. Well, except for that one time. She was gone for a very long time then. But when she did finally come back things were so much better. They would read together, they would play together. Momma didn't sleep all day anymore.

The people at the school showed him all around. The playgrounds, the classrooms, the bunk houses. It was going to be like a camping school, all year round! Raymond was very excited to start school and make all the friends...just like the cartoons on TV. Momma hugged him tight before she left and promised to write. He knew she would, and he vowed to learn as fast as he could so he could write back. This was gong to be an awesome year!
