The Guardians of the Mountains

The adventures of the brave men and women fighting the WMRA and Borlanders in West-Moreland and other Border areas.

Vaguzia was a strange country when you thought about it, most of the country was relatively safe, with lots of tourists, parties etc. Of course these places have also been the target of big terror attacks, but which city hasnt in this part of Mundus. But when you would go to the more rural areas of Vaguzia, like West-Moreland and southern Irogana, the situation was completely different, these parts of Vaguzia had become a dangerous area, full of Borlander and West-Morelander separatist movements, for a tourist or even a Vaguzian it was hard to come into these areas, you first have to pass around 3 checkpoint and the chance they will stop you at one of them is large. To control this situation, the Vaguzian King had send the Army and Marines to these areas, and they also got support from Achkaerinese Troops, who share the Maelstrom base in Irogana close to West-Moreland in the middle of Borlander area.

One of these men and women were Captain Zefiro Bellisario, Staff Sergeant Giancarlo Galletti, Sergeant Emilia Moceri Corporal Filippo D'Antonio and Private Gondulfo La Scola . The 5 were marines and send out to West-Moreland to mostly do a lot of patrolling and to help the police, they now sat in their OrnatiAr-2 they drove through the Vaguzian Alps to Hudilodjul, a town close to Doqadis with around 40,000 people, mostly hardcore separatist, and known to be very violent towards military. As they drove into the town, you could see people who where giving them the middle finger or spat on the car, someone eventually even threw a stone at the car, Galletti reacted to this with warning shots. They had given intel by the VIA that there was a HQ disguised as a house in Hudlodjul. When the car arrived at the house, about 3 men started shooting out of the house towards the Marines, the Marinese now jumped out of the car so they could properly shoot at their attackers, Cpt. Bellisario now came out of his cover and was able to eliminate one of the shooters. While the shooting was still going on, another group of WMRA's came around the corner and now the Marines were getting shot at from 2 sides by 12 men.

 "Shit, we are in a ambush now, okay, Giancarlo and Gondulfo take out the WMRA's in the house, me, Emilia and Filippo shall take out the WMRA's at the left of us! " right after Zefiro said that, Emilia managed to shoot down 2 WMRA's at the left of them. Which gave Giancarlo and Gondulfo just about enough time to run to the house while Zefiro gave them cover. Giancarlo kicked in the door, and immediately, Gondulfo shot down the WMRA guy that stood at the top of the stair ready to shoot, Giancarlo checked the ground floor for enemies, but luckily there weren't any, they now first threw a flashblang upstairs, waited for it to explode and ran upstairs where they shot down 3 stunned man.

Meanwhile Zefiro, Emilia and Filippo were still in a heavy firefight, they had managed to kill another 2 men but now there were still 5 men left. Zefiro now threw a grenade which putted 3 another men down, soon after this Giancarlo shot the other 2 men down from out of the house. Just when they were checking the bodies, about 50 people were now around the scene, some very angry, some very sad, there were also some people who started throwing bricks, glass etc. on the Marines "Erm sir, i think we might need a little support here." Giancarlo said.

Warning Signs

The late morning sun beat down on Maelstrom as the senior Achkaerinese officer assigned to the base Brigadier Indigo Scott made her way from her prefab to the command centre. Every morning that she did walk she always found that she was extremely proud of the people under her command, she could still remember when the base had been in poor condition, moving in and rebuilding had taken a fair amount of effort but they were getting results now. Walking into the command centre she found the duty officer for the night shift Lt Colonel Sebastian Brandt standing keen eyed looking at a large monitor screen. Indigo grabbed a cup of coffee before going and standing next to him.

"Anything?" Indigo asked looking at the image being displayed, it showed what looked like a building in a forest clearing it was in truth a small Izraite temple, perhaps in centuries past it had been a resting point for travellers crossing the mountains, the image itself was being broadcast courtesy of an Owl type UAV that they'd had watching the area, the reason was fairly simple when the Vaguzian's had done their last round of raids in West Moreland they'd picked up some intel naming this time and place as where something was going to go down, some sort of arms deal.
"Not yet." Sebastian said
"Ground teams?" Indigo asked
"ASF Veridian Troop have the high ground, scout troop support is seconds out on foot." Sebastian said "Air support close at hand as well if it's needed."
"Trap's set then let's see what we end up with." Indigo said

On site Captain Wes Fletcher was musing over the situation as he looked through the scope of his sniper rifle, the situation in West Moreland had been getting increasingly dangerous as the WMRA had gotten bolder and bolder, kidnapping the Lord of West Moreland was evidence enough of that.
"Veridian Alpha to all callsigns we have movement." he said when the sound of a truck engine disturbed the more serene backdrop.
"What is it?" Indigo asked over the com
"Looks like a pickup truck and a some trucks. Coming to a stop outside the temple." Wes said "Four individuals getting out."
"Any confirmable ID's?" Indigo asked
"WMRA." Wes said "Nothing in the vehicles."

At Maelstrom Indigo and Sebastian glanced at each other.
"So the WMRA are the buyers." Sebastian said "Who's selling?"
"That's the sixty four thousand iso question." Indigo said "But I'm more concerned about what they're being sold."
"Got another group of vehicles approaching." Wes's voice returned to the radio frequency "Three large trucks and a couple of cars."
"Looks like the sellers are here."  Sebastian said
"People getting out, they're going through the formalities." Wes said "They're heading over to the seller's trucks."
"Merchandise inspection." Indigo said "I want to know what they're buying." she glanced at Sebastian again wondering just how bad this was going to be, then came the news and it struck like a hammer.
"Those are bloody cruise missiles." Wes said
"Who the hell are these guys?" Sebastian asked
"They're loading the missiles onto the buyer trucks." Wes said
"Wes what do you think of your odds if you went in?" Indigo asked
"Dicey at best." Wes said "There's a lot of heavily armed people, I'd rather take my chances after this has gone down."
"Is there anything else being sold?" Sebastian asked
"Small arms, looks like machine guns and shoulder mounted rocket launchers as well as the cruise missiles."  Wes said "The deal's done the WMRA are leaving."
"Ok then." Indigo said "Wes bring those sellers in for questioning, air support will take out the WMRA."

While Veridian Troop and the rest of the ground team engaged in a firefight around the temple, the WMRA convoy was making its way down the hillside not that it was going to get too far because up in the skies above were two newly bought Dragonbane II aircraft, the lead aircraft was flown by Captain Larissa Bond callsign Lightning her wingman was Pilot Officer Clay Stanley callsign Magician.
"Four large trucks and one pickup." Clay said over the radio "What's the action?"
"Take them out as fast as we can." Larissa said "Last thing we need is them scattering and slipping the net."
"Copy that." Clay said

The two jets swooped down, Larissa took the first pass letting loose her missiles and guns she did most of the damage and then it was Clay's turn to drop down and finish the job.
"Glad we managed to deal with that quickly." Larissa said "Quite the bonfire though."
"Let's just be thankful that's another WMRA scheme foiled." Clay said
"True enough" Larissa said "Lightning calling base, targets destroyed."

"Copy that good job." Indigo said, she turned to look at Sebastian who nodded
"Captain Fletcher calling base." Wes's voice came over the radio "Negative on captures got into a firefight, all opposing force down. Did get one message from one of them before he died."
"What was it?" Indigo asked
"The reckoning is coming." Wes said "Vaguzia shall atone for its crimes."
"Thanks." Indigo said "Why do I not like the sound of that?"
"For the same reason I don't." Sebastian said "If that was just the feeling out jab..."
"Then what's the wind up punch going to be like?" Indigo asked
