Songs of the Night

The Edelweiss Festival had undergone a great many changes in the program in recent years, most notably in the realms of Royal Family involvement from merely ceremonial functions the family had now got to the point where they were highly active participants they did three musicals per festival, a few special nights each year and of course this one, the big one, the penultimate night where one of their number did a concert, this had been something that the former Emperor had greatly enjoyed doing and it was a night that meant a lot to the family for a few reasons, it had been here on this night years earlier that Peter had proposed to Renee. Tonight the performance was Serenity's job, and she'd planned on a show very much her own style. She was wearing her black jeans with a red t-shirt and her leather jacket as she waited in the wings, she could hear the atmosphere of the packed house as they settled in ready for the show. Then the music (Small World) started and Serenity headed out onto the stage.

"I'm standing in the field, my feet lift off the ground, no one here will see me, no one will hurt me now" Serenity sang "I'm brushing off the rain, while climbing through the clouds nobody can see me no one can hurt me now." she took a breath "Goodbye, gravity" the words punctuated the silence "Goodbye, enemies I'm going up to a place where the world is small, where I can fly above it all if I don't make it, sing my song from here I'm weightless no stars are famous and the world is small... and the world is small"  Taking a breath Serenity smiled "Still rising towards the dark" she continued "Don't care what's down below, 'cause no one can see me and no one has to know." taking another breath before "The atmosphere is lonely, and beautiful I don't miss a thing I used to know...I used to know." Serenity took another breath before "Goodbye, gravity, goodbye, enemies I'm going up to a place where the world is small... where I can fly above it all if I don't make it, sing my song from here I'm weightless no stars are famous and the world is small...I feel so tall" as the music mellowed a little Serenity glanced towards the Royal Box where her family were sat a smile on her face "If there's nothing to break my fall it's okay, I've seen it all and maybe I was always small but I could fly before I crawled. If I don't make it, sing my song, from here I'm weightless no stars are famous, and the world is small...and the world is small" she smiled as the song finished followed swiftly by the cheer of the audience.

"All right all right." Serenity said "Good evening Valtheim... you all having a good time?" she paused for a moment "It's a good night for a little bit of music even though it's just the warm up for all the pomp and pageantry of the last night tomorrow. So next up... well it's something special to me On My Own" anyone who knew Serenity wasn't going to be that surprised to hear the introduction to On My Own from Les Miserables start.

"And now I'm all along again, nowhere to turn, no one to go to. Without a home, without a friend without a face to say hello to
and now the night is here, now I can make believe he's here." Serenity sang "Sometimes I walk alone at night when everybody else is sleeping I think of him and then I'm happy with the company I'm keeping, the city goes to bed and I can live inside my head." she took a deep breath as a familiar feeling ran through her body, there was more than one reason this song was special to her "On my own, pretending he's beside me all alone I walk with him 'til morning. Without him I feel his arms around me and when I lose my way I close my eyes, and he has found me" Serenity had a smile on her face as her mind as it had done before conjured up her deceased husband Isaac for her to see standing in the aisle "In the rain the pavement shines like silver, all the lights are misty in the river, in the darkness the trees are full of starlight and all I see is him and me forever and forever." she took another breath and then upped the power of her voice  "And I know it's only in my mind, that I'm talking to myself and not to him, and although I know that he is blind still I say, there's a way for us." Serenity half smiled as she took another breath "I love him, but when the night is over, he is gone
the river's just a river, without him, the world around me changes, the trees are bare and everywhere the streets are full of strangers. I love him, but every day I'm learning all my life, I've only been pretending. Without me his world will go on turning, a world that's full of happiness that I have never known." Serenity smiled again "I love him, I love him, I love him, but only on my own."

Serenity took a swig from her water bottle as the audience clapped, she was enjoying herself she always did when she did one of these. "I'm not in the habit of doing dedications but tonight I'm making a few exceptions to that rule." she half giggled "So this one's for my daughters" she glanced behind her at the orchestra and gave the nod and they started to play the next piece, Serenity glanced up at where her girls - Astrid and Lisa were watching and smiled

"Your little hands wrapped around my finger and it's so quiet in the world tonight. Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming, so I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light." Serenity sang softly looking around the audience as she did so "To you everything's funny, you've got nothing to regret, I'd give all I have honey if you could stay like that." she smiled "Oh darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up, just stay this little. Oh darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple. I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart, and no one will desert you. Just try to never grow up," she swayed a little as the music continued  "You're in the car on the way to the movies, and you're mortified your mom is dropping you off. At fourteen there is just so much you can't do and you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots. But don't make her drop you off around the block, remember that she's getting older too." she almost laughed as she went into the next line because she could remember actually doing it "Don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school. Oh darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up, just stay this little. Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple. And no one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred and even though you want to, just try to never grow up." Serenity raised her eyes looking directly at her girls now "Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room... Memorize what it sounded like, when your dad gets home" she let the line hang for a moment before continuing "Remember the footsteps, remember the words said and all of your little sister's favorite songs...I just realized everything I have is one day gonna be gone" she grinned "Oh darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up, just stay this little. Oh darling, don't you ever grow up don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple. I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart, and no one will desert you just try to never grow up, don't you ever grow up...don't you ever grow up."

As the audience applauded Serenity blew her daughters a kiss which was reciprocated, taking a breath and another few gulps of water the Empress took a moment to think, she was about halfway through her set list for the evening, which meant here came the real fun from her point of view "So I want to say this is a little known fact, but I'm told it's done the social media rounds, I have been known to do a little singing down at a science fiction themed club it's a bit of fun to mix in original songs on that theme with song parodies and have a good time. So here we go..." with a signal the next piece started and there were a few raised eyebrows and puzzled looks because it wasn't a recognised tune but it was easy going enough. Serenity was not hiding the giggly grin as she glanced up at where Euphy was sat as if to say don't look so shocked

"Don't tell me the rules;" Serenity sang  "Bowties are cool and I know it's my turn to die, now is the time for the clock to chime, and everything will be alright. A different face, a different voice, but even if I had the choice I'd make it gladly, so my dear, don't shed a tear, because you know I'll still be here." Serenity actually giggled as Euphy got there, yep this was a Doctor Who song, fortunately she stopped just in time to continue "Clara, I know this was not the way that you'd envisioned spending Christmas Day, please look into my eyes, I apologise for everything I've done, and that I'll keep on doing, until this endless battle's won." she took a breath before the chorus kicked in again "Don't tell me the rules; bowties are cool and I know it's my turn to die, now is the time for the clock to chime, and everything will be alright. a different face, a different voice, but even if I had the choice I'd make it gladly, so my dear, don't shed a tear, because you know I'll still be here." another breath and then "Obviously this hadn't been my plan, but here on Trenzelore I'll make a stand, there's no need to pretend, everything has an end, and this looks to be mine, so I will sit here waiting, slowly running out of time... Don't tell me the rules; bowties are cool and I know it's my turn to die, now is the time for the clock to chime, and everything will be alright. A different face, a different voice, but even if I had the choice I'd make it gladly, so my dear, don't shed a tear, because you know I'll still be here."

Now came a little instrumental as Serenity swayed a little, getting her breath back for the high notes to come and she was still smiling "It's time to break the science,
it's time to break the law," Serenity sang "Because now this rebel Time Lord is rebelling once more, from an old man in a tower saving Christmas, fixing toys, to a new-found youthful power, love from Gallifrey, boys!" She took a quick breath grinning widely "The clock's struck twelve so watch yourselves, you want me to die, but if you want my life, come and get it! come and get it but don't tell me the rules!... Don't tell me the rules; bowties are cool and I know it's my turn to die, now is the time for the clock to chime, and everything will be alright. A different face, a different voice, but even if I had the choice I'd make it gladly, so my dear, don't shed a tear, because you know I'll still be here."

Serenity took another drink from her water bottle, it wasn't like there had ever been a remote chance of her getting through this whole thing without delving into the science fiction stuff at some point smiling she looked around she was almost there two songs left to go taking a moment to stretch she looked up "If you liked that then you'll like this one." she said "A number of things." the music started up again.

“Long ago the clock struck one,” Serenity sang, “He stole his box and he started to run, from what? Where to? But no one knows wherever, whenever he goes. A little boy ran to the edge of the sky, adventure on his mind, and the stars in his eyes to everyone he met he smiled and said, ah, the universe is full of a number of things I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings.” she paused before continuing “Tick tock goes the clock.” that was the bridging line of the song “Long ago the clock struck nine,” Serenity continued, the spotlight now on her “Marking the last of the Lords over Time, lonely – or angry – but no one knows wherever, whenever he goes.” she held the note a little before. “A soldier man ran to the end of the sky, escape on his mind, with such heartsick old eyes, to everyone he met he sighed and said, ah, the universe is full of a number of things, why can’t we all be as happy as kings?” she paused again “Tick tock goes the clock.” she looked up at the Royal Box, she hadn't said it, but this was for the man lying in a hospital, this one was for her dad “Long ago the clock struck thirteen for the old man so tired after all that he’d seen, Doctor — well, who? — but no one knows wherever, whenever he goes.” she took a breath “The lonely god sits at the end of the sky, fate on his mind and whole worlds in his eyes, too many friends I have left behind, I am sure I have said too many goodbyes…” there were a few smaller spot lights that started to circle around where Serenity was standing “But a new voice breaks out from the edge of the sky” Serenity sang, her hands spreading wide “as the clock strikes again, anew, redefined, and the traveller now to herself gently chides,” she smiled “Ah, the universe is full of a number of things, time marches on and we run like thieves, stealing what happiness we can find, making memories for when we do say goodbye.” one final pause “The universe is full of a number of things, and no one need be as lonely as they think.”

As the crowd cheered that one Serenity held up her hand showing just her index finger indicating there was just one number left "You're all going to think you know it..." she teased "Do sing along when you've picked it up." she giggled as the very familiar introductory notes played to the final number of the night played, it was telling just off of Serenity's grin that something was up this wasn't going to be what was expected "The starship flies over Earth tonight, full of new technology." Serenity sang "There's talk of assimilation by a different kind of Queen, and now I'm here on board and we've been occupied, they adapt too fast staying's suicide."  she took a quick breath "But there's a chance, the crew agrees fix the timeline help him hit warp speed, the answer's clear, we have to go, but you say "No."" Serenity was grinning as she held up her hand as if to say wait for it "Make it so," yep this was a Star Trek parody of the Disney song "Make it so, say the words that you're famous for. Make it so, make it so you're not here to start a war, I don't care if your crew obeys... we both know you're wrong... and I will stand up to you any day." the amount of giggling, laughter and general enjoyment was telling as Serenity waited for the note and then "It's funny you're resistant when you claim you're logical... well Jean-Luc you could have fooled me I'm not seeing that at all. No one knows them as well as you, I don't know what they put you through, you say it's for humanity... I disagree." she danced back a little bit "Make it so, make it so say the words lose the Enterprise, make it so, make it so there's no place for compromise. It's your command it's the only way or the Borg rage on."

Serenity was really enjoying herself now taking another breath she giggled again "I saw your face when you shot on the holodeck." she sang "I did not mean to interrupt you on your little quest, just one thing comes to mind I understand at last... they hurt you once, Ahab you're going to hurt them back!" she hit the first of the high notes "Make it so, make it so realise your revenge is wrong, make it so, make it so or the world you know is gone. It's your command, but now you say "the line must be drawn"" she held the final high note and had her hand up again saying wait for it "You'll just get another ship anyway."

GENERAL STARLING TO SUCCEED PORTMAN AT ASF

By Penny Noble: Defence Correspondent

When General Neil Portman announced his intention to retire as head of the Achkaerin Special Forces a few months ago, the hunt for his successor was expected to be a difficult one especially considering Portman's experience in the role and throughout his career, having been involved in many crises throughout recent years, whomever was to replace him would undoubtedly have big shoes to fill. That unenviable task has been handed to General Lassie Starling, someone who has served in the ASF for most of her career, she will become the first woman to hold the position. Speaking following the formal announcement General Starling stated "I'm honoured and humbled to be appointed to this position and I'll do my very best to make sure that our special forces retain their reputation as being right up there as one of the best in the world." General Portman is reportedly to take over as commandant at Army Training College Ivyfield.

In other defence news the Ministry of Defence has provided an update on current projects announcing that the Thunderchild project is progressing to the initial trial stage, that the Quillbolt project is in the design phase and that the Marill project is to enter production in the coming weeks.

"I believe this is the proposed trade section as it currently stands including the Consul's proposed addition" Xiaoling said "Do correct me if I'm wrong"

Quote
In order to effect more prosperous trading oppurtunities the nations signed as members of the ADSN agree to the following measures.

1. Any export to a member nations shall be accompanied by a declaration that the export abides by all local laws. To ensure compliance the receiving nation may carry out any non-destructive test on any product arriving at their nation. Any product deemed to be not incompliance with local laws or not accompanied by a decleration shall see a fine of non more than 5 times the value of the consignment paid by the exporter.

2. On the anniversary of the signing of this document each member nation shall produce a list of tariffs to be paid by all member nations. Those tariffs may be set on any goods or items the nation wish. The tariffs set by each nation must be at a level lower than for any nation with which they do not have a current trade agreement with.

3. This agreement does not prevent member nations making their own trade agreements.

4. Any item with a value of less than $1million exported to a nation for temporary use shall be permitted to enter tariff free so long as it is for a period of less than 30 days.

5. ADSN nations agree to allow operations by businesses from other ADSN nations on condition that those businesses operate following local laws concerning taxation, employment, health and safety and environmental matters.

OOC - in the interests of keeping things moving might I suggest 48 hours before taking this as agreed unless there be objections to the article?

"There's an awful lot of dancing around things going on here" Xiaoling said slowly "To some extent this goes all the way back to Empress Serena's point about trust. The bread and butter to treaties across Mundus are generally trade, diplomacy and travel all are leaps of trust and some are more difficult, especially when you go multilateral as this organisation would. Something like easing travel restrictions is usually accomplished by agreeing to what the limitations on travel are, an exchange of embassies tends to be accompanied by responsibilities, all of which have in the grand scheme of things minimal impacts." she took a breath "Trade is a level or two higher than that. We're all in the world of politics and whatever we agree here ultimately will have to be ratified back home, and the Consul and Empress Serena are correct that becomes significantly harder to get through back home when we don't have the safeguards to protect our own industries, decreasing tariffs to a universal rate between us is a fair compromise especially given how it has been suggested, it creates the market and establishes a rate that is actually needed otherwise why even have the discussion? the actual mechanism proposed is somewhat of a variation on a provision found in the Network of Crowns. But let's be clear wide open trade is a significant number of steps down the track from where we are right now. The proposed science consortium is a great idea and is supported, however I share the concerns raised, I do think there has to be a buy in but we'd have to maybe fix the rate to either historic contributions of a member over a set time or just have a flat rate that must be put in."

Xiaoling took a breath "Now the big challenge of those mentioned is going to be in the defence area but we'll deal with that when we get there. The point is and this will ring true throughout these talks - some of us know each other better than we know others but what we agree must reflect the whole of the meeting, if this is to work then everyone must be able to sell this back home. The art of diplomacy in moments like this is not necessarily about finding the ideal, or the popular view but the compromise view that gets everyone something they can live with."

The Next Generation?

There was something of an unusual calm around the Marble Palace, that didn't mean that the regular briefings, meetings and so on weren't still happening after all this was still a cog in the machinery of state, but the personal time was being occupied with a lot of reading and decision making because the family had decided to bring back their family game night, so preparation for that was well underway. Serenity was sat on the sofa in the lounge area tablet propped up on the arm of the seat and writing on a piece of paper as she occasionally glanced at the screen to make sure what she was writing was accurate. "Busy?" it was Nettie Taylor, leaning against the door frame
"Reminding myself how to read these maps is so much fun" Serenity said looking up with a slight smile "What can I do for you?"
"Well Telsia just got here and I thought you might meet her?" Nettie said
"Of course." Serenity said
"Tels." Nettie said coaxing an eleven year old blonde haired girl into the room, this was her daughter Telsia, she practically clung to her mother "Telsia this is Serenity. Serenity this is Telsia."
"Hi." Telsia said very shyly
"Hi." Serenity said getting up and walking over to look at Telsia "Settling in ok?", Telsia nodded
"Stuff's in her room ready to unpack." Nettie said
"What were you doing?" Telsia asked
"Oh..." Serenity said "We're resuming family game night and someone had the bright idea to play something a little different."
"Blame Simon is it?" Nettie said
"Absolutely." Serenity grinned before looking back at Telsia "Want to join in? It's not difficult."
"Ok." Telsia said, she went and sat with Serenity who set about explaining things while Nettie just watched and smiled, well that was one hurdle navigated at least and more besides. She'd had a more distant relationship with Telsia over the years mainly because of her political career but now she could try and get that back. Smiling she headed upstairs to start to unpack her daughters things.

BiographyThe somewhat shy and self sufficient daughter, with both parents being political heavyweights in their respective nations she got used to the implications of that, that environment largely resulted in her being put in a boarding school for her junior school years. However her mothers new job away from Rokkenjiman politics has given them a chance at something more normal. She's picked up her mothers piano skills and enjoys a good book and fun.

INVESTIGATORS ARRIVE IN CLYSPERIS

By Olivia Moore: International News Correspondent

A team of investigators has arrived in Clysperis at the invitation of the Clysperi Government to examine the cases against four foreign tourists who have been sentenced to death for allegedly taking drugs into Clysperis. The team led by Detective Amber Duff comprises, police officers, forensic scientists and legal practitioners, upon their arrival the Detective gave a statement saying: "This isn't a rubber stamp, if everything is above board then we will of course report that as such. However our duty is to the truth whatever it may be, we will be examining every piece of evidence, interviewing each of the people concerned, reviewing the court documents and so on, our responsibility is to determine the safety of the convictions and to make a report on that, if they be safe then the report will show that, if they be unsafe then we will include not only the findings as to why but recommendations thereof. We're know we're on the clock so to speak but we believe we can get this done before the fifth of October."

LAWSON MAKES IT FIFTY MEDALS

By Nick Watson: Sports Correspondent

Sammy Lawson has won the fiftieth Mundus Games medal of her career. The cyclist who sits atop the list of most decorated athletes in the Games history started the day on forty eight medals, she won her forty ninth medal in the scratch race with a well timed final sprint to take the gold. Her fiftieth came in her victory in the elimination race, her favourite event of the velodrome program, the race sees a number of sprints with the final rider across the line each time being eliminated from the race, Sammy kept herself towards the front of the field for the whole race and took the victory out sprinting her team mate Niamh Fernley who took the silver. Speaking afterwards Sammy said "If you'd told me ten years ago when I won my first title out in Kazarovia that one day I'd win my fiftieth Mundus Games medal in front of a home crowd, I wouldn't have believed it and now its happened I still can't believe it, it's going to take a few days for what just happened to sink in but when it has, they'll be plenty of smiling before we get back on the road in a few weeks."

THE TRIVIA CORNER

The trivia corner is where we have one of our regions roleplay characters answer five questions, to introduce you to the various characters of Mundus and we throw in a fun fact as well to give you a little bit of lore trivia.

This month answering the questions is Empress Serenity Azurewind of the Holy Empire of Achkaerin

What is/was your favourite subject in school?

Like a fair few of the leaders of Mundus I'm a history geek, I think it's important to learn from our past experiences so we can better inform our present and future judgement and decision making. There's a nation out there where my hair colour essentially means I've done something really bad in a past life, it was interesting discovering that because in my nation my red hair is actually viewed as a blessing rather some sort of curse mark.

What is your favourite book and why?

Anything by Tolkien but if I had to pick I'm going with the Lord of the Rings because there's something about being able to lose yourself in an epic quest in such an established world with the lore of the legendarium backing it up.

What has been the hardest thing you've done to date?

The challenge in the run up to this years Mundus Games, I got talked into or more specifically I let myself get talked into trying out all the different sports that make up the Games program. Some of them I'm reasonably good at, I've competed in a few of them, but stuff like Medieval Mixed Martial Arts where you have someone with a sword running at you and hitting you with it? Going to need a lot more practice on that one.

What's your pet hate?

People doing half the speed limit in the outside lane on the motorway.

What do you do to relax?

Play the piano, watch a film with my daughters, go for a run.

This Months fun fact:

At one time the official Royal Residence of the Achkaerinese Royal Family, the Marble Palace in Valtheim, was the residence of royals from four different nations at the same time, these royals hailing from Achkaerin, Aquitaine, Daito and Rokkenjima.

SCRIVENS MEDICAL BEGIN SMART GLASSES TRIAL

By Kimberly Thorn: Science and Technology Correspondent

Scrivens Medical have begun a trial of what they term "smart glasses" the headline is that these glasses will allow deaf people to 'see' conversations in real time. The glasses use augmented reality to convert audio into captions that appear in front of the wearers eyes. The glasses are tethered to a smart phone, a similar technology use is already seen in the company's development of an artificial pancreas, essentially using an app alongside the device's audio receptors and bluetooth to accomplish the feat of turning sound to word. The initial trial is expected to last until the end of May 2024, during which time the company will continue to refine the app software before rolling it out more widely. One of the participants in the trial is Princess Astrid (pictured above wearing her new glasses) who got quite emotional during her first experience of the technology, the Princess lost her hearing almost three years ago due to side effects from Meningitis. Scrivens Medical is planning to trial the technology with around 80,000 people. It caps off a pretty good week for Scrivens Medical as the Achkaerin Medical and Pharmaceutical Executive (AMPE) has licensed the artificial pancreas developed by Scrivens Medical for use in general.

"Quite." Xiaoling said with a nod in Graziano's direction "The Consul is correct, we were invited here to explore the potential for a regional organisation based around various areas of cooperation. We have demonstrated our ability to cooperate already in agreeing in regards to Troyes, what we are now faced with is as put by the Consul the question of what are we wanting to build? Whether it be a communications conduit or something more established the likelihood is that both models are going to end up discussing the same things. My way of looking at this is to ask a different question - do we want this organisation to be a 'voice'? I would submit that through the matter raised by Empress Serena we have already seen the nations in this room, the nations that could form this organisation, speak with a single voice. I would suggest if that's the intent then a committee is perhaps the way to go, one ambassador each, one vote each. If we need to get experts in should we find ourselves dealing with particularly niche subject matter then that is easily accomplished, so I don't see the need in any case for Ad-Hoc Committees and Permanent Committees of specialists and officials on specific subjects. when ultimately it is mechanically the same meeting, this is a regional organisation it is not the CTO, it needs far less to make it function, in fact a standing committee needs only a home, appointed ambassadors and basic rules with regards voting to function. A communication conduit doesn't require the home but requires everything else, it's just the case that the committee would in effect be meeting in an online format, either way clarification around decision making is required."

All while she'd been speaking she'd been making a few notes which she now slid on the table.

STEWART ON CLYSPERI SENTENCES

By: Olivia Moore: International News Correspondent

Following the arrest, trial and sentencing of four foreign nationals in Clysperis on drug offences questions have been asked in the Senate about the matter, Minister for Home Affairs Lizbeth Stewart appearing on ABC Breakfast was asked about the situation to which she said: "It's always concerning when you only get the headlines and none of the detail, even more so when it concerns something like this. The law of the land is the law of the land that is a key principle of sovereignty, however there are other concerns not due to comments made in Daito but those actually contained within the Clysperi news item, these concerns raise questions as to what has transpired and whether or not it is appropriate, as a result we strongly suggest that the Clysperi authorities stay the execution until such concerns are satisfied. Let's have the sense to check everything before something rather permanent is done."

TEAM ACHKAERIN CLIMB THE MEDAL TABLE

By Nick Watson: Sports Correspondent

Eleven days of the Mundus Games have been contested and there has been plenty of drama across the various events, earlier in the Games Abertone took twenty one medals in a single day (a new Games record) but today saw something not seen previously - a three way tie for gold in a race type event. Joint gold medals are nothing new to the Games, they usually happen in the jumping or throwing events and occasionally in the combat sports when competitors cannot be separated. Today in the womens individual cross country Achkaerin's Lily Carter (pictured above) crossed the finished line neck and neck with fellow athletes from Clysperis and the Theocracy of Kaitaine, so close were they that the technology could not separate them so a joint gold was awarded. Ms Carter spoke afterwards saying "It's incredible to have a result like this, I just tried to stick with them, I kicked on the last hill, kicked in the home straight they were still there and then at the line, I'm sure there's a difference but you'd have to go down to ridiculous levels of time analysis to separate us at which point you're not really in the spirit of the sport."

Elsewhere at the Games Achkaerin swept the medals in the womens road time trial with Sammy Lawson taking her second gold of the Games and forty eighth overall, silver was taken by Zoe Carpenter with Aveline Lei taking the bronze.

The metaphorical sigh of relief that had swept through Lakhzovia had been palpable, relief that Kadassa was gone? No. Relief that Kadassa hadn't tried any shenanigans? Perhaps. Relief that Tsagarai hadn't won? Most definitely. It would have been a laughable joke were it not a serious political issue that in an electoral race between a dictator, a democrat and a terrorist somehow the terrorist had won, truth was indeed stranger than fiction. How had it happened? Well there were a fair few theories but it more than likely had its roots in Kadassa's actions over the previous years, actions that had seen him stack the deck in his favour and place the Democratic Alliance at a disadvantage, but with his eyes solely focused on them he'd ignored or discounted the possibility that consolidating his position was also helping others consolidate theirs, or at least that was what the Achkaerinese Electoral Commission and the QCPM were throwing around as a thought when asked about it. On the plus side, though it wasn't much of a silver lining, Cikniye winning was just about the only non Kadassa victory that would have seen a peaceful transfer of power, a victory for the Democratic Alliance would likely have seen a repeat of previous electoral situations, so peace was something to be grateful for but as with all elections there was a difference between respecting the election result and liking it.

Given the history that Achkaerin had with Argan Tsagarai and the Democratic Alliance, even to the point where a handful of Achkaerinese political parties had uttered the word 'sisterhood', it might have seemed strange that an Achkaerinese representative was even attending the inauguration - especially when the person being inaugurated was according to their predecessor an 'enemy of the state' but moments such as this were useful, they were opportunities to get the lay of the land, to get an inkling of what to expect now that the dust had settled. However there was no member of the Royal Family or Government Minister attending no this was a moment for the ambassador to Lakhzovia Samuel Braithwaite, dressed smartly, he went through the formalities of greeting the soon to be President, his game face on at maximum intensity for that moment, he suspected that Cikniye didn't particularly want to be in that moment any more than he did. Show for the camera's done he took a breath and circulated taking in the guests, it was somewhat as expected but the physical presence of the Rokkenjiman Empress was disturbing to say the least.

EMPRESS MEETS WITH PRESIDENT AND DUCHESS

By Roisin Shaughnessy: Chief Correspondent

Empress Serenity has hosted President Emile Sauzee of Marseilles and Duchess Danielle Aveline of Aquitaine, the meeting held during the Mundus Games saw the trio journey around several venues to take in some of the competition, including the judo, the open water swim and the womens football. As might be expected though this wasn't just a sports tour, there were diplomatic matters discussed as well. An agreement reached between the three nations will see members of the Sorority of Materna terrorist group, presently detained in Achkaerin following the Marseilles crisis, extradited to Marseilles and Aquitaine to face trial for their crimes. Speaking about the agreement Empress Serenity said "This is well overdue, we extradited Sebastian Cartier to Marseilles not that long ago after the Marseilles government gave the requested assurances, what we've agreed builds on that by extending that out to include the other members of the Sorority of Materna presently in Achkaerinese custody, we've also broadened out to include Aquitaine in this because when we consider the extradition of someone such as Alys Arsenault we find ourselves considering not only what she's accused of against the people of Marseilles but also what she's accused of against the people of Aquitaine." the Empress was then asked about the situation around Troyes to which she said "In the Marseilles crisis we sent people to die to free a nation from the grasp of a terrorist regime, we fought for the freedom of Marseilles and we're not backing off from that position, Marseilles is a sovereign state it has control over all its land and only it can choose to give any part of that land away, it never made that choice because it was never asked to make that choice and that critically is the absence of consent."

AADC WORKING ON SUPPORT DRONE

By Penny Noble: Defence Correspondent

AADC has announced it's developing a support drone named the Vingilot, the drone is intended to compliment the military's support capability from the perspective of aerial refueling thus making the Vingilot, should it enter service, the latest addition to the Air Force's tanker fleet, designed to launch and recover to a carrier the Vingilot would be able to support air force operations. Sir Darren Eagle, the CEO of AADC, commented at a press conference saying "We're optimistic based on developments so far, this is to some extent like many drones we've developed over the years but the Vingilot provides the additional challenge of being the tanker in an aerial refuelling scenario, in essence this works similar to the recovery system we devised for the Patronus drone however applied to refueling. Today we tried it out with three different aircraft models, we have plenty of work and testing to do before we offer it but at moment we're happy with the direction of travel."
