President Seiko waiting at the HQ office alone. She was going through her folders and news feed on her phone. Politely waiting for Lìosa Càidh.

Lìosa Càidh stepped out of the lift and strode across the lobby the indication from the receptionist on duty pointed her in the direction of President Seiko. She approached the Josai leader and extended her hand.

"President Seiko a pleasure to meet you I'm Lìosa Càidh, Secretary General of the Cross-Straits Union." Lìosa said smiling "I'm looking forward to our discussions, as it's such a nice day would you like to have the meeting outside in our garden or would you prefer my office as a venue?"

President Seiko replied. "Ah Ms Càidh. It is a nice day, the garden would be nice. So I take it that admission into the Cross Straits Union would be on a case by case basis?" She replied as she got up and started walking with the Secretary General.

"You are correct." Lìosa said "We admit using an interview based vetting process, basically the purpose of today is that on behalf of the Union I talk to you, I ask you some questions about Josai in order to allow the membership of the Union to make an informed decision as to Josai's application for membership it's basically a very flowery of saying it's sort of like a job interview. If Josai's membership is approved the Union then sets an accesion date. Most of the time this is a very straight forward procedure other times it is not. As far as I'm aware Josai isn't controversial as a state so I believe this is a more harmonious interview today. Do you have any questions before we begin?"

President Seiko smiled "I don't have any questions thus far Ms Càidh. Anything you want to know about Josai whether it be how its government is ran or economic agenda or anything about the nation really that you feel is relevent I am happy to answer. So Secretary General Càidh, I am ready when you are."

"Well let's start with the more general stuff." Lìosa said "Perhaps you could tell me about Josai, what it's like to live there, what goes on there, paint me a picture of the feel of the nation so to speak."

Seiko politely smiled and responded. "Well Josai is a city state, with 12 million or so people, thus it can be said that Josai is a mega city. Josai by its very nature is a 24 hour city. It never truly stops, there are places always open. The average person probably works 8-15 hours a day depending on what industry they work in. But no need to worry, there are always late night Yatai noodle stands around. The average citizen probably lives in a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment or block of units which are under construction all over the city. There are always new apartments, units and complexes always under construction somewhere. I can tell you back when I was a student at Kensai University late night noodle stands and specialised student lodging was where you found me, that or Ishijima Square which is filled with all sorts of food stalls at which you mostly see, hungry university students eating there. The average office worker probably spends most of the day in the office and when he finishes his over time hours towards the end of the financial year they will probably be found on the JMT (Josain Metro Transit) trains which is a subway network of high speed rail that extends throughout every city district and also many rail networks that go to Rokkenjima due to many Josains and Rokkenjimans that have family in both nations. So in summation Josai is a busy, ever flowing city that never truly sleeps." She replied in her usual polite and maternal soft spoken manner.

Lìosa started making notes as Seiko answered, it was a good answer to the question and gave a lot more than was perhaps first apparent.

"So what attracted you to the Cross-Straits Union?" Lìosa asked "Why do you want Josai to join?"

Seiko replied "Josai is a small country, and even though we are a commercial and financial hub, our economy is still dependent on international trade and finance. Considering Josai's size and population we don't have much of a manufacturing base outside of industries that are already automated. In order to survive Josai has little choice but to reach out to the outside world. The CSU thus far has proven to be the most effective way of acheiving that as well as gaining access to the worlds most prominent economies in order to gain more of a presence in the global market place, to put it simply Ms Càidh, its economic pragmatism and it just makes good business sense." She replied with her warm smile and soft almost maternal soft spoken voice.

Lìosa smiled as she made more notes it was another good answer.

"And what do you believe Josai brings to the CSU?" she asked

President Kumoya smiled "Well Josai as I said before is a small nation, but we are a thriving one. We don't have any primary industry but our exports include high quality manufactured goods which include consumer electronics, fast moving consumer goods, medicine and pharmaceuticals as well as transportation equipment and components.  However what Josai excels in is high financial services and education, IT and engineering. Our banking sector and education produces one of the highest and most well educated workers and people in the world. Therefore the greatest natural resource...As sappy and corny as it might seem are it's people. I believe that Josai has a lot to offer in that regard."

Lìosa smiled again and made more notes, this was going well the answers were detailed and the lack of flags raised by Union members beforehand made this process a lot more simple. "So where do you see Josai in say five years time?" she asked

President Kumoya paused for a few seconds "Pretty much what we are now, except more economically thriving, Josai will hopefully have more partners on the international stage as we are in the process of also formulating trade agreements with SANE and be an example of a nation which developed without natural resources and a strong and thriving democratic system. GDP will hopefully continue to rise on average of 2-3%, hopefully I will still be in office so I can facilitate this vision, but that is a matter for the coming election next year."

Lìosa double checked her notes, making sure she had everything down before proceeding. "I have one more question. If Josai were an animal which animal would it be and why?" she asked
