"Each and everyone one of us represents a nation; each unique, with diverse cultures and traditions. Division and disagreement threatened to tear us asunder. Yet, we have persevered. Through understanding and toil the international community has united, come to a consensus for the betterment of Mundus. Honor and glory." The Arda Tuluvan First Minister, Cormarë Vercatauronámë, said before she signed the document. "Let is be known, that I shall personally present an official copy of the Treaty of the Mundus Convention on Human Rights to Her Most Sublime and August Majesty, the Empress - might she live forever! - for Arda Tuluva's final consideration and ratification of this treaty."

Diplomacy and Events / Re: Queens Invitational Polo Weekend
« on: June 29, 2018, 07:07:24 PM »
Princess Nessanië waited at the Airport in Gaia for the Virtuous Consort, whose time of reflection and contemplation had come to an end. Aranince had taken residence at the villa gifted to the Empress by the late Queen Viktoriya on Isle of Tar until his period of exile was deemed sufficient; he decided to take the opportunity to present himself to newly crowned Queen before his official return to the Arcalcassë.

Nessanië waited patiently, yet she was annoyed that she would have by now missed the first Polo match, at the Celestial Court in Imladris it was well known that the Princess was an avid participant of the sport.

She bowed respectfully to the Empress’ consort; tradition and station dictated that he must speak first. The two did not get on and would avoid another at official Court functions. But as Arda Tuluva’s ambassador to Lodja it was her obligation to meet the Virtuous Consort and present him to the Queen. He simply eyed her briefly before continuing on much to the annoyance of Nessanië who gave a look to Ayane. Had he learnt nothing during his time of solitude? Clearly he had not.

It was an awkward and silent ride from the airport to Polo Fields. Aranince and his ilar’nalda signed to each other, she could only understand small tidbits as she was uncertain what their unique gestures might mean. But, mainly he was being brought up to date about gossip and machinations of the Celestial Court.

The Virtous Consort, followed by Nessanië, then their two ilar’naldar made their way towards the Queen once they arrived.

“Your Divine Majesty,” Nessanië said bowing, “Twelve thousand apologies for my tardiness.” She bowed thrice more before gesturing to the Arda Tuluvan dynast, “If it pleases Her Divine Majesty may I present His Imperial Highness, Aranince, the Virtuous Consort.”

He bowed his head, “Honor and glory, Majesty. Congratulations on your ascension as Queen of Lodja, may your reign last ten thousand years.”

“Ten thousand years.” Nessanië repeated.

She glanced at Ayane before speaking again, “The Sovereign Prince of Némérie, Louis III.” Ayane was signing the names of the others; it was – after all – her duty to know these things. “Princess Adelheid of Neu Uburzis. And His Lordship, Besarian Ivanov, Lord of the Conclave.”

Aranince bowed his head politely to each as he was introduced. He took an open seat near the Queen, “I must compliment Your Majesty on the natural beauty of Lodja and her people, truly a jewel among nations. I had recently spent some time on Isle of Tar, the tranquility is substance for the soul.”

6
The entire evening Nessanië had remained mostly with Dragan dancing and chatting as the Ball went on. She had explained to him that it was unusual for a member of the Imperial Clan to be unmarried at her age. She had explained to Dragan that by now a marriage would have been arranged for her, but Nessanië told him she submitted a special supplication to the Throne requesting to be arbiter of her own martial decisions, which had been granted.

The Arda Tuluvan princess told Dragan throughout the course of the evening that she actually sat for the triennial Metropolitan Imperial Examinations, the first of Imperial Clan to do so, and passed with high marks. She did, after all, have some of the best tutors the Empire had to offer, as well as formal Mindarucinist education since she was a small girl; giving her extreme advantage on various subjects the Imperial Examinations require. Nessanië told him she worked under a pseudonym of “Lindalë Haryanicarë” working as a Senior Secretary in the First Ministry before being summoned by the Throne to represent Arda Tuluva in Lodja.

The evening had been drawing near its end; the Princess indicated her desire to retire to which Dragan, ever a gentleman, offered to see the Princess to her lodgings. Upon arrival Ayane, ever the bold one, suggested that he come in for a night cap saying, “Lord Minister, tradition requires we offer you a drink for the kindness you have shown. You have ensured our return and thus we must compliment your gallantry.”

Dragan agreed and took a seat near Nessanië as Ayane disappeared to prepare the drinks. He complimented the Princess on her fine taste in the décor of her room and he had off handily made a comment about the Empress.

“Burden of Empire, that. Her station requires a great deal of stoicism.” She said answering his question about her sternness. “As Highest Daughter she was quite the socialite at Court. When we were younger, she was known simply as the Fourth Calmarë and was quite the prankster, truth be told.” He looked at her with surprise, “I will deny this if asked again, dear Minsiter.” She said with a smile. It was then that her servant returned.

“This tea is called Alásëa Alma, Minister.” Ayane said presenting the proclaim pot and cups to him and her mistress, she received a stern look from Nessanië. It was commonly used among the higher castes in Arda Tuluvan society as an aphrodisiac. The Princess hoped Dragan did not know this and made a mental note to admonish Ayane later about this brazen lack of tact.

“Jubilant Passion?” He said taking in the tea’s aroma.

She giggled softly, “Jubilant Flower is a better translation, I think. Yet, I applaud your Quenya, minister.”

The two spoke on the subject of Quenya for a time. He had learnt some and found all the Arda Tuluvan words for “honor” too numerous and was asking what the precise meaning of some were.

From the doorway a muttering of formalities and apologies could be heard. Before Dragan’s attention went from speaking the Arda Tuluvan princess to the conversation between the Lodjan corporal and Ayane, who was speaking, “It can be attested that Her Serene Highness has not seen the Princess Mary since the former’s departure from the Ball. Apologies, Corporal, but Her Serene Highness can offer no further assistance on the matter.”

“Thank You, Ma’am.” She bid the Lodjan solider a fond farewell before closing the door and returning to her post near Nessanië.

“What was that about?” Dragan asked Ayane, she looked towards Nessanië who gestured for her to answer.

“Honorable Dragan, it appears that the Princess Mary has not returned to her rooms and a slight concern was raised.”

Dragan stood, bowed formally – and most politely – to Nessanië before excusing himself saying he better take a further look into the situation. Before he left he turned and bowed again, with a smile he made his goodbyes, “Thank you, Princess, for the lovely evening. I look forward to another encounter. Farewell.”

This place is cursed. CURSED! Ayane signed vigorously to Nessanië who made warding gesture. We should get a priest to exorcise your rooms. I have already gotten the sage.

The Princess stopped in the middle of the hall, “An exorcism? A bit drastic, Ayane.”

“Best to appease the omens, Highness.” They simultaneously made the same warding gesture. It had  been two days since the Princess Mary had disappeared and news of her passing had just reached the Isle.

Nessanië arched a brow, but knew better than to debate the topic any further. She was stubborn when she thought she was right, on this subject perhaps she was. “Very well, Ayane, I shall leave this in your capable hands.”

“Your Highness’ wisdom is boundless.” Nessanië waved her hand before counting her way down the corridor, Ayane a few steps behind with a smug looking expression.

Unto the Right Honorable, Darren Bone, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of East Moreland.

Let it be known that the Imperial Government of the Arda Tuluvan Empire condemns the practice of compulsory conscription of minors into the Armed Forces.

The Arda Tuluvan Imperial Government has never recognized the authority or legitimacy of this so-called Soviet Republic in Kaitaine; the McPherson Regime - and his predecessors - are usurpers illegally governing Kaitaine.

The Bene Gesserit, like any religious order, has multiple sects within its ranks. Men and women join many religious orders throughout Mundus at a young age. The Truthsayers are but one aspect of the greater whole that encompasses the Bene Gesserit. Arda Tuluva has found no proof that the Bene Gesserit leaders are conscripting minors into their ranks as fighters for freedom against their will, it a choice a woman makes upon maturity.

If the allegations brought by the honorable Kingdom of East Moreland against the Bene Gesserit are verified Mundus should question why have these girls taken up arms at such a young age, before condemning the Bene Gesserit?

Their ancestral lands have been taken from them, their people scattered and forced from their homes, many of their kin are oppressed and killed and they - like their mothers before them and their mothers before them - fight for liberty, for justice, for freedom.

It is the opinion of Her Most Sublime and August Majesty’s Imperial Government that a summit for peace between the McPherson Usurpation Regime and the legitimate Bene Gesserit leadership to speak on peace and commit to sessions made to return the Holy Cities back into the hands of the Bene Gesserit. The road to peace is achievable if the world works in conjunction with one another.

Diplomacy and Events / Re: The Lodjain Court - IC
« on: March 10, 2018, 07:44:07 PM »
In one graceful motion the servants to the Empress’ sides removed the sheer veil from their sovereign, stepping back and falling to their hands and knees, as did all the other Arda Tuluvans; save for the Ingaran who went to his knees. Like so many things in Arda Tuluva, they moved in perfect cohesion, as one in unity. Queen Klara had shown great reverence and respect to the Arda Tuluvan Throne by wearing the Jade Dragon in her coronation ceremony – and above that the small gesture of touching the pendant moved mountains in the mind of the Empress. A small detail, a minute gesture that many might have simply over looked, taken no notice; but the Empress saw. She sees all. Klara had gained  hén’póna before the Daughter of Heaven and in turn the Autárimë Empress would speak to Sessifet’s Chosen in the full radiance of her splendor, of her most high station as Empress of Arda Tuluva, as the Daughter of Heaven.

“Honor and glory unto the anointed Queen of Lodja, the Guardian of Sessifet.” The Empress intoned, “The blessings of Heaven and Earth. May your reign be showered in fortune and tranquility.” The Arda Tuluvan monarch kissed her palms and made a sweeping gesture with her arms, an Arda Tuluvan blessing and praise. Her principal servant, Ehtelë, then approached the Queen holding an ornate sandalwood case gilded in gold with a yellow scroll inside, an Imperial Edict. “Soon the Year of the Dog comes to an end and the Year of the Golden Pig commences, a most fortuitous changing of the years. We invite Our most esteemed Queen to attend the New Year’s Festivities at the Arcalcassë as Our most honored guest.”

The Empress sat observing the festivities, her myriad of servants standing patiently behind her waiting to serve or be called upon. Many among the host of the Empress’ ilar’naldar looked upon the Queen’s Ladies-in-Waiting with a tinge of envy seeing them laughing and dancing with – what seemed to them - wild abandon.

The Ingaran had been meandering about, with consent from his sovereign. He had stopped at the Buffet sampling much of what was offered, he had decided that he found Lodjan cuisine most palatable. He had met Pope Peter II once while he visited the Empire and was going to speak with him but he was occupied in conversation with an elected president. Eruenvinyanto had been advised to keep his conversations with those heads-of-state who governed republics to a bare minimum. He wasn't entirely sure why, it had something to do with rituals and tradition. He noticed the Morelander king re-enter the Ballroom, another man he had met once.

“Your Majesty,” He said, a bit louder than what Arda Tuluvan Imperial etiquette would deem appropriate, towards King David who made his way over to the Ingaran. “Honor and glory, Majesty, the Blessings of Heaven and Earth." He said with a bow of the head. "It has been an age since last we spoke, there is an aura of great joy radiating from His Majesty. One that was not there the last His Majesty graced the sacred halls of the Arcalcassë. I trust, then, all is well."

It was then two of his ilar'naldar appeared, one holding a tray with two glasses of whiskey. "I recall His Majesty has a predilection towards whiskey." He didn't, but his ilar'nalda did and had signed to him what the drink was and that David enjoyed it. "Would His Majesty care to have a drink with me in honor of Lodja's new Queen?"

“A brilliant move, Minister.” Princess Nessanië said to Dragan Knežević, catching him alone. “You have secured the new Queen’s affection before the Daughter of Heaven. If the Conclave had any fears on how relations between Lodja and Arda Tuluva might be affected during this period of transition; then rest assured, dear minister, you have cunningly silenced any doubt from the Phoenix Throne.” She gave a small smile as she raised her champagne flute to him in toast. She handed her glass to Ayane freeing her hands before offering it to Dragan, “Would the fine minister care to dance?”

Ehtelë and Ayane – the principal servants to the Empress and Princess Nessanië respectively - were talking about the latest Court gossip. Well, not talking, per se, they were signing to each other in the Arda Tuluvan style. The Empress is with child. Two months.

After all these years the Ingaran is finally fulfilling his sacred obligations. Ayane signed back.

With the slightest shake of the head Ehtelë continued, The Noble Consort is the father. If the Empress has a daughter he will be elevated to ‘King in Arda Tuluva’. And here? How is the Lodjan Court?

About the same as the Celestial Court... Ayane signed.

Everyone is sleeping together. Ehtelë quickly gestured, she nodded as the two shared a small chuckle hoping no one saw them. It would be considered most improper for the two to be laughing in public.

It appears that every foreign noble is bedding one of the Queen’s Ladies. Ayane continued, Stasya with David. The Íverin[1] Prince with whom he is dancing.

Every? You named two. Ehtelë signed.

Ignoring his comment, she continued. Besarian with Jasmina. The Uburzi with a young gentleman named Cedrik. Apparently, it would be quite the scandal in New Uburzis.

And your mistress?

She has her gaze fixed on Dragan.

Kissed by fire. Fortuitous. Ehtelë responded, And intelligent, a true erudite.

“The pendant.” Ayane said.

“The pendant.” Ehtelë agreed. For barbarians the Lodjans are extremely astute.

First Minister Cormarë Vercatauronámë was the next to speak. She stood and turned to face Lodja’s Queen, “Your Divine Majesty,” she said bowing low to Queen Klara “Your Royal Majesty.” She bowed again, albeit not as low, to King David. “Your Holinesses,” bowing first in order of Precedence in Arda Tuluva to the Head Gothi and then the Pope, “Your Imperial and Royal Highness.” She said to Serenity with another bow. “Your Regal Highness.” She stated to Rokkenjima’s Princess Euphemia. “Honorable representatives, national delegates.” She finished bowing twice more, pivoting slightly to the right then to the left.

“The Arda Tuluvan Empire applauds the efforts and convictions of Her Divine Majesty to amend the Treaty of the Mundus Convention on Universal Rights.” She bowed again to the Lodjan Queen. “For many years Arda Tuluva had shied away from ratifying this treaty do to its language and certain articles that run contrary to the harmony of the rituals and regulations that guide the Empire ever forward.

“It may not be known by some, but Arda Tuluvan state philosophy highly promulgates the notions and the importance of names, definitions, and meaning. Before laws are enacted in the Empire a lengthy process is carried out to formulate the correct and prescribed language in accordance to the harmony of State philosophy and doctrine. It is, therefore, extremely important to the Empire that the words used within this treaty be correct, else the Empire cannot be beholden to a treaty that is in ere.

“Therefore, we propsse the following changes the Mundus Convention on Universal Rights:

“Article 5.1 should be written as ‘No one shall be held in forced slavery or servitude.’”

“Article 7.1 'in a democratic society' should be removed.

“Article 7.2, is a rather interesting case. In Arda Tuluva accused are seen as neither guilty nor innocent. We call this cámimbë, ‘they who stand in between’, would be the best translation. It has been decided by the Presidium that – if – the Empire were to ratify this treaty we would only be beholden to the official Quenya translation of this charter. Therefore, we kindly request that Article 7.2 be officially translated as:

Illi oquotë i ongwëa trosennen nauvar eperúcië cámimbë tenna todistë cáma mácernócatië nórëa sanyërnen ar axaninen.

"The word for innocent, which in the divine tongue is vatomano, has been replaced with cámimbë. Let it be known, that there is no cultural taboo or legal restriction for those who are cámimbë. It is held in balance, it a more philosophical ideal than anything. But, we cannot allow the accused to be presumed completely innocent, it would disrupt the harmony of our entire justice system.”

The Arda Tuluvans had no qualms with the other articles, they were vague enough to allow the State its control. The Empire also was extremely obsessed with defining and the naming of all things; as the state philosophy of Mindarucinism prescribes. Arda Tuluva defines religion as the practice and worship of the faith that aligns with and is in accordance to the harmony of State philosophy and doctrine.

Belief in Arda Tuluva is defined in two ways: (1) an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof, that aligns with and is in accordance to the harmony of State philiopshy and doctrine; and (2) trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something that aligns with and is in accordance to the harmony of State philiopshy and doctrine. Otherwise the belief is untrue and, therefore, not considered belief but a false notion.

“Article 12.1, should state ‘persons of marriageable age’. It is therefore allowed to regulation of how one defined marriage. Persons can be defined as two or more with restriction to whom one can and cannot marry.”

“As in regard to Her Imperial and Royal Majesty’s proposed amendments to Article 12. The wording of the proposed Article 12.2: 'Parties to same sex unions are entitled to equal rights as those parties to heterosexual marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.'. This cannot stand in its current formula. By imposing the words ‘equal rights as’, implies that same-sex unions are considered to be beneath those of opposite-sex couples and thus, only through, this charter does it become elevated. Arda Tuluva has never held taboo against same-sex relations nor imposed laws prohibiting their unions. Though, we understand that many a nation still have strange thoughts on the subject and prohibit the practice.

“Also, each nation defined marriage in different ways. Therefore, instead of adding another section simply amended the first to: Persons of marriageable age, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation, have the right to marry, enter into a union, and to found a family, according to the national laws governing the exercise of this right.

“We certainly agree with Her Imperial and Royal Highness that Article 13 should be reinstated. The Empire finds no reason why this Article has been removed.”

“On Article 14.2, let it be known that the Empire is in favor of maintaining its present wording from the original Charter, however we have no qualms for or against its removal. We have already regulated Equal Pay Laws within the Empire.”

“Let it be known we are in agreement with the amendments made to Article 15. The Empire shall not allow any charter or treaty to impose a teaching curriculum upon Her Sublime Majesty’s subjects that run contrary to the harmony of Arda Tuluva’s state philosophy and doctrine.”

It was a well-known fact that Arda Tuluvans were extremely superstitious people. Almost everyone had a personal astrologer, fortune teller, osteopath, and herbalist. However, the government prescribed that modern medicine must also be taken into account when concerning a person’s wellbeing. “The Arda Tuluvan Presidium would like greater clarification exactly what Article 16.4 means by ‘culturally appropriate care’ and ‘different ways of life.’ If there is an epidemic it shall be treated and will not be encumbered because some think a crystal or prayer will save them.”

The Oath

With my mind I find ways to better my country
With my hands I help build the future.
With my feet I march forward towards glory.
With my eyes I see truth.
With my ears I hear wisdom.
And with my words I speak the rituals.
With my heart I am a filial (son/daughter/child)
With my soul I fight for the Empress
With my strength I topple our enemies
With my body I give gladly to my nation.
And with my being I serve faithfully the Empire.
Obedience is my life. I submit to the Phoenix Throne.
This, my oath, I swear willingly to the Empress – might she live forever.

Only through the Empire do I know happiness.
Only through the Daughter of Heaven will I have salvation.
Without the Marduuk I am lost.
Without Arda Tuluva’s love I am nothing.

We are enduring, We are mighty, We are perfection, we are Arda Tuluvans!

Quote from: Imperial Edict Issued from the Phoenix Throne to the Chrysanthemum Throne

Imperial Edict Issued from the Phoenix Throne to the Chrysanthemum Throne

Unto Her Imperial Majesty, Evanthe of the Most Noble and Royal Dynasty of Rhodes, Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of Somerset; greetings and salutations,

It has long been since last Our two nations treated with one another with friendship and mirth. Much has changed, yet much is maintained; thus is the Will of Heaven. It is agreed that Rokkenjima and Arda Tuluva should come together once again in harmony for the prosperity and tranquility of all.

The omens are favorable, the auspices are clear, the wards are set and the portents appeased. It is thus that We extend Our imperial rite unto Her Majesty, the Empress, and unto the Crown Princess, She Who Is Ordained of Islyna, with an invitation to the Celestial Court for an Official State Visit.

Honor and glory. The Blessings of Heaven and Earth.

So let it be written.

Autárimë Tararan i Yéndë o Menel : Erëa ar Eressë Tararan ar Arata Tureryan ilya nu-Menelo

The Rokkenjimans landed at the Eönwë Airfield, a private airport used exclusively for governmental purposes, to meet with the Rokkenjiman delegation. It was about noon when the Rokkenjiman aircraft landed at the Eönwë. A red carpet inlaid with subtle designs and outlined in intricate golden patterns led the way from the base of the stairs leading from the airplane to the entourage of black vehicles, sky-lanterns floated majestically along the way, fastened to the ground with golden rope.

Legionaries of the Dragon Martial Guard and Imperial Azure Army's Honor Guard snapped to attention as the Empress descended from the stairs; flower petals in the colors of the Rokkenhijam flag – red and white – fell gracefully in abundance from the lanterns in the calm air. Empress Evanthe and Crown Princess Adriana were met by the Consul of State, Inglor Lord Anordradil, and other leading members of the Arda Tuluvan Imperial government, who all bowed low at the waist in the Arda Tuluvan fashion; hands before them left fist in the right palm. The many other lower ranking officials and servants fell to a full kowtow.

“Atta eleni sílar lúmenna omentielvo, Meletyalda, Ortári o Tolenquelar. Aya ar alcarë." Which is translated as, "Two stars shine at the hour of our meeting, Your Imperial Majesty, Empress of Rokkenjima. Honor and glory." The Consul said in the traditional greeting. Lifting his head he continued, opening his arms in a friendly gesture, his head slightly down “It was with great esteem that we welcome Her Majesty to Arda Tuluva. On behalf of Her Most Sublime and August Majesty we wish Rokkenjima honor and glory. May friendship and trust grow eternal between our two empires.” He, and the others, bowed again in respect.

The Rokkenjimans were lead to a caravan of black cars with both the Rokkenjiman and Arda Tuluvan flags at the front. They left the airfield and drove upon the path known as the Meridian Way, which eventually merged with the Pathway of Great Unity that would lead them to the Arcalcassë Palace.

On each side of the Pathway of Great Unity stood six rows of soldiers that lined the way from the Airfield to the Meridian Plaza. They stood stoically, saluting as the caravan passed. The Meridan Plaza, a massive square that was completely filled with thousands upon thousands of Chrysanthemums in homage to Arda Tuluva's most honored guests, save for a narrow passage to allow the cars to the Gateway of Perpetual Balance. The two monolithic stone doors were decorated with an azure dragon on the eastern door and a red-golden phoenix on the western. To the left of the gate hung the Rokkenjman Imperial Standard: a golden chrysanthemum on a field of red, to the right the Arda Tuluvan Imperial Standard: a golden phoenix on a field of red with two white bars bellow and above. The Gateway lead to a tunnel, that was engraved from base to top with prayers and icons to ward against evil spirits.

In the distance the slow beat of drums could be heard. Once the caravan emerged from the tunnel and passed through the second gate, the Gate of Supreme Tranquility, the two thousand drummers began to play faster. The rhythm was hypnotic, precise, inspiring and beautiful. Soldiers still lined the way, though unlike those outside of the Arcalacseë Palace these wore the traditional silver armor of the Tercenë Dynasty; holding the serpentine standard of the Dragon Martial Guard.

Each Gate might have become smaller as they progressed, but each was more beautiful and more adorned then the last. The Gate of Heavenly Brilliance seemed to have been cut from a dream. The artistry and craftsmanship was perfectly done. Like all things in Arda Tuluva, great care was taken to achieve a vision of beauty, of greatness, of sublimity.

The caravan reached the Hall of Central Harmony, another large square sat before the massive building. Hundreds of civil officials, attendants, and servants waited patiently. More flower petals of white and red fell from the sky as Evanthe and the Crown Princess left the limousine. The Arda Tuluvans assembled fell to a full kowtow chanting in unison, "Ortári quainyén, quainyén, quinquainyéni."[1] The Rokkenjiman Empress was guided to a palanquin adorned with Kingfisher feathers that would take her across the square over the Bridge of Virtuous Rule to the Hall of Central Harmony.

The Autárimë Empress sat upon the Phoenix Throne, which was elevated on the third dais, behind a curtain of beads and gold thread in the Hall of Brilliance, one of three central Throne rooms within the Arcalcassë Palace. The Arda Tuluvan sovereign used an obscure precedence issued by the Tar-Amatyultarë in 1710 to forgo the traditional waiting period after a guest had arrived at the Arcalcassë. It had been the subject of much debate in yesterday's Morning Assembly, but the Autárimë Empress' arguments and wisdom eventually won on the basis that the Rokkenjiman sovereigns are also descendants of The Divine, thus, it could provoke Heaven's ill-favor if she was forced to wait for an audience. The Empress had argued that Lodja's Queen, as Guardian of Sessifet, would be allowed an audience with the Daughter of Heaven immediately. Though, it was countered that Lodja was Arda Tuluva's primary ally, thus their Queen should be given the right. In the end, it was decided that above all Lodja's Queen would be given the greatest amount of precedence over all other foreign Heads of State, however. Since she was not present allowing Rokkenjima's monarch an audience immediately did not upset that precedence and Heaven will be pleased. The Autárimë Empress was satisfied with the outcome, truth be told she wanted to meet with Evanthe before giving her ministers the go ahead to forge a treaty.

Those assembled were on their hands and knees prostrated before the Empress and in unison they chanted the Devotion, "The Empress IS Arda Tuluva. The Empress MUST be obeyed. The Empress WILL live forever. Holy Mother guide us. Holy Mother teach us. Holy Mother protect us. In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve you. Our lives are yours." The remained on their hands and knees chanting the Devotion three times.

A gong rang and the doors to the Hall of Brilliance opened, the High Chamberlain yelled, "Who comes before the Daughter of Heaven?"

"Her Majesty; Evanthe, the First of Her Name, Empress of Rokkenjima.” The major-domo replied.

"Who comes before the Divine Above?" The Chamberlain asked again.

"Evanthe; daughter of Beatrice, Blessed of Islyna; of the Imperial House of Rhodes, Sovereign of Rokkenjima.”

"Who comes before Her Most Sublime and August Majesty?”

"I, Evanthe of Rokkenjima, do come before the Empress.” Evanthe was instructed to speak the last answer herself.

The gong rang again and all who were assembled bowed at their waist as the Empress and the Crown Princess entered the Throne room. The Rokkenjimans had been instructed on the proper procedures of Court Etiquette: they were to bow before taking twelve steps, then bow again low at the waist. Then take nine steps and repeat their bows, and did the same thing after six steps, then after three, then after three more the they were to bow again, besides the Rokkenjiman empress, the other Rokkenjimans were expected to fall to a full kowtow.

It was the Arda Tuluvan empress who spoke, "It is with great pleasure that We welcome Rokkenjima's Empress to the Celestial Court. Honor and glory."

"Honor and glory." The Arda Tulvuans intoned in unison.

"With wisdom and might has Rokkenjima secured her place upon Mundus." The Daughter of Heaven continued, "The Empress honors the Great Tercenë with her presence. It is Our desire that Our empires shall forge a friendship that shall span the ages. With Peace and tranquility. With Harmony and stability."

 1.  Literally as "Empress ten-thousand years, ten-thousand years, ten of ten-thousand years," used exclusively for Arda Tuluvan royalty and used to a foreign monarch.

The Lodjan ambassador entered the Throne Room in the Hall of Brilliance once she was announced, thrice. She had followed the protocol having done this before. After entering the Lodjan Noble bowed low at the waist, she took twelve steps, bowed again in the same fashion. Then nine steps, bowed; six steps, again another low bow. The final three steps ended with the Lodjan ambassador falling to a full kowtow. Ambassadors were instructed to follow Court Procedure to the letter when presenting themselves before the Daughter of Heaven, else their credentials would be revoked and they would be deported from the country.

A gong rang resonating through the Hall, the Lodjan ambassador lifted her head from the ground and remained kneeling, eyes down. “Honorable and genial, the Divine Queendom.” Ehtelë spoke loudly on behalf of his mistress, “Lodja shines bright upon Mundus, blessed by Heaven and Earth. Fortune and glory.”

“The Great Tercenë govern with integrity and fortitude,” The Lodjan noble said, answering a compliment with another as things were done in here. “Arda Tuluva is the beacon the lights the way. Honor and glory.”

“Honor and glory.” The Empress’ ómari bowed his head, “The Ambassador from the Divine Queendom of Lodja had a petition to present before the Daughter of Heaven, She Who Commands Harmony.”

The Lodjan Noble had a thin wooden box that she held out, another servant came to claim it as she spoke, “Oh Sublime and August Majesty, tidings of fortune come from the Isle of the Goddess! Sessifet has chosen her vessel, who has taken the name Klara II.”

The Empress received the opened box with the official invitation from Varlaam Kohut, the Father of the Queen. Of course, the Autárimë Empress knew of these events from her ambassador in Gaia. However, tradition dictated that she receive it in an official capacity. “Glory unto the highest!” Ehtelë intoned, “May Sessifet’s Guardian guide Lodja to prosperity and fortune!”

“We shall attend this Ourselves.” The Empress spoke.

It was then that the Minister of Rites, Vorondil Ohtarmenelicarë, stood from his kneeling position and moved to the carpet, bowing into a full kowtow before he spoke, “Your Sublime Imperial Majesty, radiant and inspiring. I beg before the Phoenix Throne! It is not proper for the Daughter of Heaven to attend a foreign coronation. Please reconsider!”

Many of the hardline conservatives at court also kowtowed from where they were kneeling speaking in unison, “Majesty! Please reconsider!”

High Overseer Ellālie Spānturo calmly moved to the center and bowed, “She Who Sits Above All Thrones, Oh Majesty, Great and Wise. The stars and omens are in favor of the decision of the Daughter of Heaven.” Before any further protest the Imperial State Astrologer continued her argument, “The Phoenix Throne declared the Crown of Lodja a friend by the infallible Will and Wisdom of Her Most Sublime and August Majesty.”

“Your dissent, Minister, was in the interest of the State and for Our wellbeing, however misguided. Your loyalty and concern are noted. This transgression shall be forgiven. Yet remember Minister, the Phoenix Throne has a long memory that does not forget.”

“The Daughter of Heaven is benevolent. Your servant bows in respect and thanks the Throne for such generosity and absolution.” The Minister of Rites said slinking back to his position in Court.

The Empress stood as to servants opened the beaded curtain, “Ambassador. It is with great pleasure that We accept this invitation to attend the Coronation of Lodja’s new Queen and the last rites of Our dear departed friend.” Looking out at her ministers, “We leave the governance of Our empire into the capable hands of Our most trusted ministers. Let it be known that We shall go under the veil while We are in Lodja. So let it be written.”

“So let it be done.” Everyone in the Hall said bowing as the Empress departed.

The Empress and the Ingaran listened to Princess Nessanië's account of the selection process as they were driven from the airport to the Isle of the Goddess. Although the Empress read the full report, the Princess felt obligated to give the Daughter of Heaven her own personal opinions. Nessanië was, after all, a civil servant and official reports to the Grand Secretariat were suppose to be written without bias and only with facts; little to no personal opinions.

"She is more independent thinking that the others, Majesty." The Princess said, speaking of Tatiana, "Assertive and direct. She understands Lodja and what needs to be done. A respect for tradition, but also of adaptation. She might be willful, but I think the burden of rule will temper her. She is too clever to become Besarian's puppet, I suspect much to his vexation."

"The Conclave, Nessanë, will there be major changes to its membership?"

"I apologies to the Daughter of Heaven for I remain ignorant on the workings of Conclave appointments."

The Empress waved dismissively, "In time you shall learn the finer workings of Lodja's court and politics."

"Majesty, if I may speak freely?" She asked, the Empress gestured her approval, "The interim High Priestess is slightly... unorthodox in her demeanor."

"Whatever actions or words taken before Her Majesty are sure to be understood as simple cultural misunderstandings." The Ingaran said, "Not all are as enlightened as us, Nessanië."

The Empress set her hand on his lap, "We concur. This is why We have decided to go under the veil."

Going 'under the veil' is an Arda Tuluvan tradition used by the Imperial Dynasty and members of the Blood that is used for two reasons: to atone for a transgression or to bridge the gap between the castes. It was first used when Empresses would lead their troop into battle, so that she could command easily and so that her soldiers could speak freely to her in the heat of battle.

The Arda Tuluvans arrived at the Isle of the Goddess. The Empress and the Ingaran wore matching white silken arlapili with red accents embroidered with ornate designs in red and orange; phoenixes adorned the Empress’ garments while dragons decorated the Ingaran’s. However, the Empress wore a veil that covered her headdress and face, it was so sheer it appeared almost invisible. On the Empress' left index finger she wore the Polished Ring that had been given to the her on behalf of the Lodjan Plebeians on her first visit and a silver bracelet with a single charm of a Kingfisher that Vikotirya had gifted. The Empress knew that only Lodja's queen was allowed to wear blue, so she made sure that no blue adorned either of their robes for this auspicious and significant ceremony.

Ehtelë, who had memorized the roster and pictures of all the guests and Lodjan officials, introduced the Empress and the Ingaran to the parents of the future queen. She did not extend her hand, nor bowed, but simply stated, "Blessings and fortune upon your House. Honor and glory." The Ingaran bowed his head in respect. Even though she was under the veil, being introduced to Ladies in Waiting was still far to undignified for her station as she continued.

The Empress noticed the King of East Moreland speaking with the Achkaerinese emperor. King David III had noticed the Arda Tuluvans enter; as it wasn't the most subtle of entrances, their ostentatious dress and the host of servants the followed the Empress holding various banners and sigils. He bowed in respect as she nodded making her way over towards her fellow monarchs.

i Tië

Tiëlesë or Tiëism is a religious or philosophical tradition of Arda Tuluvan origin which emphasizes living in harmony with the Tië (literally "Way"). The Tië is a fundamental idea in most Arda Tulvan philosophical schools; in Tiëism, however, it denotes the principle that is the source, pattern and substance of everything that exists. Tiëism differs from Mindarúcinism by not emphasizing rigid rituals and social order. Tiëist ethics vary depending on the particular school, but in general tend to emphasize láricamë (effortless action), "naturalness", simplicity, spontaneity, and the Three Treasures: ófelmë "compassion", vartelmë "frugality", and firyamë "humility".

The roots of Tiëism go back at least to the 4th century BCE. Early Tiëism drew its cosmological notions from the School of Ëangólë (Naturalists), and was deeply influenced by one of the oldest texts of Arda Tuluvan culture, the I Wirnë, (the Book of Changes) which expounds a philosophical system about how to keep human behavior in accordance with the alternating cycles of nature. The Tië Marwa Parma, a compact book containing teachings attributed to Yáringolmo, is widely considered the keystone work of the Tiëist tradition, together with the later writings of Anwavë dynasty philosopher and naturalist; Elentárecanë.

By the Noldorë dynasty (207 BCE–44 CE), the various sources of Tiëism had coalesced into a coherent tradition of religious organizations and orders of ritualists in the state of Emerinór (modern Ondolinórë, Erúmëanór, and Emerië). In earlier ancient Arda Tuluva, Tiëists were thought of as hermits or recluses who did not participate in political life. Elentárecanë was the best known of these, and it is significant that he lived in the east, where he was part of local Arda Tuluvan shamanic traditions.

Women shamans played an important role in this tradition, which was particularly strong in the southern state of Tasarinór (modern Tirios Endelómë, Númen Endelómë, Valdanórë, and Tasarinan). Early Tiëist movements developed their own institution in contrast to shamanism, but absorbed basic shamanic elements. Shamans revealed basic texts of Tiëism from early times down to at least the 20th century. Institutional orders of Tiëissm evolved in various strains that in more recent times are conventionally grouped into two main branches: Yáringo Tiëism and Elentár Tiëism. After Yáringolmo and Elentárecanë, the literature of Tiëism grew steadily and was compiled in form of a canon—the Tië Axángólmë — which was published at the behest of the emperor. Throughout Arda Tuluvan history, Tiëism was nominated several times as a state religion. After the 17th century, however, it fell from favor.

Tiëism has had a profound influence on Arda Tuluvan culture in the course of the centuries, and Tiëists (Quenya: Heren Tiëo, "masters of the Tië"), a title traditionally attributed only to the clergy and not to their lay followers, usually take care to note distinction between their ritual tradition and the practices of Arda Tuluvan folk religion and non-Tiëist vernacular ritual orders, which are often mistakenly identified as pertaining to Tiëism. Arda Tuluvan alchemy (especially yullaurëa), Arda Tuluvan astrology, several martial arts, traditional Arda Tuluvan medicine, súrinén[1], and many styles of sûri (life energies) have been intertwined with Tiëism throughout history. Beyond Arda Tuluva, Tiëism also had influence on surrounding societies in Albion.

Doctrines

Ethics

Tiëism tends to emphasize various themes of the I Wirnë, the Tië Marwa Parma and Elentárecanë, such as naturalness, spontaneity, simplicity, detachment from desires, and most important of all, láricamë (effortless action). However, the concepts of those keystone texts cannot be equated with Tiëism as a whole.

Tië and Marwa

Tië literally means "way", but can also be interpreted as road, channel, path, doctrine, or line. In Tiëism, it is "the One, which is natural, spontaneous, eternal, nameless, and indescribable. It is at once the beginning of all things and the way in which all things pursue their course." It has variously been denoted as the "flow of the universe", a "conceptually necessary ontological ground", or a demonstration of nature. The Tië also is something that individuals can find immanent in themselves.

The active expression of Tië is called Marwa (often translated as Virtue or Power) in a sense that Marwa results from an individual living and cultivating the Tië.

Láricamë

The ambiguous term láricamë constitutes the leading ethical concept in Tiëism, Ricamë refers to any intentional or deliberated action, while carries the meaning of "there is no ..." or "lacking, without". Common translations are "nonaction", "effortless action" or "action without intent". The meaning is sometimes emphasized by using the paradoxical expression "Ricamë láricamë": "action without action".

In ancient Tiëist texts, láricamë is associated with water through its yielding nature. Tiëist philosophy, in accordance with the I Wirnë, proposes that the universe works harmoniously according to its own ways. When someone exerts their will against the world in a manner that is out of rhythm with the cycles of change, they may disrupt that harmony and unintended consequences may more likely result rather than the willed outcome. Tiëism does not identify one's will as the root problem. Rather, it asserts that one must place their will in harmony with the natural universe. Thus, a potentially harmful interference may be avoided, and in this way, goals can be achieved effortlessly. "By láricamë, the sage seeks to come into harmony with the great Tië, which itself accomplishes by nonaction."

Naturalness

Naturalness (Taitimya literally "self-such","self organisation") is regarded as a central value in Tiëism. It describes the "primordial state" of all things as well as a basic character of the Tië, and is usually associated with spontaneity and creativity. To attain naturalness, one has to identify with the Tië; this involves freeing oneself from selfishness and desire, and appreciating simplicity.[65]

An often cited metaphor for naturalness is turu (lit. "uncut wood"), the "uncarved block", which represents the "original nature... prior to the imprint of culture" of an individual. It is usually referred to as a state one returns to.

Three Treasures

The Tiëist Three Treasures or Three Jewels (Quenya: Neldë Harmar) comprise the basic virtues of ófelmë (usually translated as compassion), vartelmë (usually translated as moderation), and firyamë (usually translated as humility).

As the "practical, political side" of Tiëist philosophy, Arthur Waley translated them as "abstention from aggressive war and capital punishment", "absolute simplicity of living", and "refusal to assert active authority".

The Three Treasures can also refer to vilissë, and fëa (vilissë is usually translated with "essence" and fëa with "spirit"). These terms are elements of the traditional Arda Tuluvan concept of the human body, which shares its cosmological foundation — Ëangólë or the Naturalists — with Tiëism. Within this framework, they play an important role in yullaurëa ("Tiëist Inner Alchemy").

Cosmology

Tiëist cosmology is cyclic; relativity, evolution and 'extremes meet' are main characters. It shares similar views with the School of Naturalists. The school's tenets harmonized the concepts of the Five Phases and the narsil (yin and yang). In this spirit, the universe is seen as being in a constant process of re-creating itself, as everything that exists is a mere aspect of , which, "condensed, becomes life; diluted, it is indefinite potential". is in a perpetual transformation between its condensed and diluted state. These two different states of , on the other hand, are embodiments of the abstract entities of the narsil (yin and yang), two complementary extremes that constantly play against and with each other and cannot exist without the other.

Theology

Tiëist can be defined as pantheistic, given its philosophical emphasis on the formlessness of the Tië and the primacy of the "Way" rather than anthropomorphic concepts of God. This is one of the core beliefs that nearly all the sects share.

Tiëist orders usually present the Three Pure Ones at the top of the pantheon of deities, visualizing the hierarchy emanating from the Tië. Yáringolmo, is considered the incarnation of one of the Three Purities and worshiped as the ancestor of the philosophical doctrine.

Different branches of Tiëism often have differing pantheons of lesser deities, where these deities reflect different notions of cosmology. Lesser deities also may be promoted or demoted for their activity. Some varieties of popular Arda Tuluvan religion incorporate the Jade Emperor, derived from the main of the Three Purities, as a representation of the most high God.

Persons from the history of Tiëism, and people who are considered to have become immortals (ainur), are venerated as well by both clergy and laypeople.

Despite these hierarchies of deities, traditional conceptions of Tië should not be confused with the Western theism. Being one with the Tië does not necessarily indicate a union with an eternal spirit in, for example, the Hindu sense.

 1. Súrinén, lit "wind-water" is the Arda Tuluvan philosophical system of harmonizing everything with the surrounding environment. The súrinén practice discusses architecture in metaphoric terms of "invisible forces" that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as .

New Bullet Trains To Put Arda Tuluva Out Front On High-Speed Rail

A new 658km high-speed rail service will be up and running in Arda Tuluva on Isilya (Wednesday), linking Armenelos, home of Arda Tuluva’s famed terracotta warriors, to Vinyamar, Arda Tuluva’s largest port.

With a top speed up to 250km/h, the new line took five years to build, winds through one of Arda Tuluva’s most mountainous areas and will cut the rail journey between the two cities from about 11 hours to 3½ hours, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

The new line will not be the fastest in Arda Tuluva but it will form a key part of the country’s national high-speed railway system, linking the upstream areas of the Anduin and Sirion rivers via 127 bridges and 34 tunnels.

Ticket sales started on Valarya (Sunday), with a second-class ticket for the full journey costing 30Ᵽ ($33.72), the report said.

(Arda Tuluva’s bullet train near Armenelos)

In about a decade, Arda Tuluva’s high-speed railway network went from zero to 22,000km at the end of last year, becoming the biggest of its kind in the world.

Arda Tuluva plans to have 30,000km of high-speed rail in operation by 2020, linking 80 per cent of its major cities.

Arda Tuluva’s extensive investments in railways have been a priority in its six-year development plans, and a major export under its “Belt and Road Initiative”.

Structuring of universe detected via quasars for first time

IMLADRIS, 56 Hrívë/ Jan. 15 (Imatyva) -- Researchers have recently managed to detect the structuring of the universe via quasars for the first time, according to the Imperial Astronomical Observations (EOVAT) of the Arda Tuluvan Academy of Sciences today.

The work was conducted by the international group of eBOSS, the biggest ongoing spectroscopic survey in the world, founded by scientists from Arda Tuluva, Nya Aland, East Moreland - among others - through CETO, which discovered redshift distortions signals when observing the spatial distribution of quasars that are 6.8 to 10.5 billion light years from earth.

Redshift distortion refers to a special three-dimensional cluster mode formed by stars under the effect of gravitational potential, and is considered one of the most important probes in researching gravitation on the cosmological level due to its direct correlation with gravitation.

The signals discovered this time were generated during the time when the universe was only one third or half the size of today, according to a report published by the eBOSS group on the finding.

The discovery is significant for future research in cutting-edge cosmological subjects such as dark energy and the essence of gravitation.

Launched in 2016, eBOSS has attracted research institutes from a number of countries, including the EOVAT.

Diplomacy and Events / Re: A Papal Visit to the Celestial Court
« on: January 15, 2018, 12:36:51 PM »
The Pavilion of Abundant Grace was a large hexagonal pagoda-like structure with multiple floors and rooms. The main banquet hall was two stories up taking up the entire floor. The three Church Princes; Cardinals Giancola, Houdin, and Cieslewicz, had been shown to a room on story above where the Pope had disappeared into. The Cardinals were presented with a small tea ceremony; three beautiful young women prepared and served the clergymen tea; while four others preformed a series of dances. The dance was conservative for Arda Tuluvan standards, though it was extremely graceful, beautiful, and elegant like all things in Arda Tuluva, it still showcased a subtle sensual subtext bordering on the exotic at times, and it could still be considered somewhat scandalous for the celibate catholic leadership.

The Holy Father was escorted from the room where he had met the Empress to another room where he was presented to three Arda Tuluvans. From the look of them and their robes it was clear these three were of great importance.

“May I present His Imperial and Gracious Majesty, Eruenvinyanto, the Ingaran, primary consort to the Autárimë Empress.” A servant said

“Might she live forever.” The Arda Tuluvans intoned in unison.

“Your Holiness.” The Ingaran nodded his head

The servant bowed to each as he introduced them, “His Imperial Highness, Alcarinqualo, the Noble Consort. and Her Serene Highness, Sémarë, Grand Princess of Arda Tuluva.” The Noble Consort and the Grand Princess bowed their heads to the Pope in respect.

The Pope greeted them and was offered a seat where tea was prepared and presented by a beautiful woman. Soft music filled the room as the tea for the Pope was prepared. It had taken a long time as there was an incredible amount of rituals to observe, prayers to say, and specific motions to preform, such as: on how to pour the water and set the porcelain cup before the Pope. During the entire ordeal none of the Arda Tuluvans talked. For silence was observed in the brewing and preparation, less you upset the spirits or misaligned the harmonies in the room. Arda Tuluvans never found awkwardness in silence, the Higher Castes had to follow such rigid regulations that most of their official interactions with one another seemed to be mostly silent.

Finally the tea was presented to the Pope, to save face and not wishing to insult the Pope it was the Ingaran who broke the silence and lifting his teat cup with both hands, slowly so that His Holiness might observe the proper procedure. "Honor and glory, Your Holiness. Heath and longevity." He raised his porcelain cup, followed by the other two before he took a small sip. "I trust His Holiness is enjoying his stay at the Arcalcassë?"

"It is quite the labyrinth." Interjected Grand Princess Sémarë, "Full of history, secrets, and beauty."

"Perhaps His Holiness would care for a selected tour." The Noble Consort said, eyeing the princess, then back to the Pope. "I am sure that the Grand Princess would be only to willing to oblige."

"The Noble Consort speaks ever with poise and truth. It would be an honor to show His Holiness the beauty of the Arcalcassë." Sémarë said her eyes maintaining a gaze towards the Pope.

"Very well." The Ingaran said with small smile, "Her Serene Highness shall give a guided tour once the Banquet is concluded. If this satisfies His Holiness?"

Princess Nessanië stood quietly listening to the candidates answer the questions presented to them. Her eyes often drifted to the dashing Finance Minister. In typical Arda Tuluvan style she observed them all and contemplated her question before approaching the four ladies. The princess wore all white with her headdress made of silver. Nessanië had informed her sovereign immediately once the news broke. The Empress – might she live forever – had declared that the Empire, too, would be in period of mourning for the late Queen. Viktoriya had been declared a friend of the Throne, thus intoning the Celestial Court to observe the 144 days of mourning.

She had met Ariana the previous day, a nice young girl. She seemed determined and knowledable enough. Nessanië thought Natalia was the oddest choice. She was a little naïve, having spent her formable years in a foreign nation, she even admitted she had little sense of what and who Lodja is. Not an answer Nessanië would have said. The Princess found that Katyusha has no sense of humility, unchecked her arrogance could be a ruin for the Lodjan Crown. Popular? Popularity was useless to consecrated sovereign. Charisma, fortitude. These are the qualities of a Queen, not the need for people’s validation to deem you ‘popular’. With good rule, humility, and intelligence then came respect from the people, with respect comes approval, with approval comes loyalty. Popularity. This is not some pageant, this is the institution of ruling the Queendom. Tatiana; a force for change and yet she had a great desire to maintain Lodja’s long and beautiful traditions. She was most similar to the Autárimë Empress. Nessanië thought that of the four, Tatiana was the best candidate who would help to build greater relations with Arda Tuluva, to expand the foundations laid by Queen Viktoriya.

She bowed politely to the interim High Priestess, then to the four candidates individually: to show no favoritism Nessanië bowed to them in alphabetical order according to the Lodjan language. She opted for a question that was highly common on the Arda Tuluvan Imperial Examinations, their answers would elucidate what they valued most, “Schools are built for three reasons: to educate the masses, to train talented persons, and to revitalize the industries. Please explain which of these three is most important.”

“Greetings, My Lord. I am called Naimandë.” He bowed politely, although accented his Latin was fluent. “This is Helcilo Únessendil.” He gestured to the other man, who stood with excellent posture, determined to remain proud despite his circumstances. “We are the leaders of our people.”

“We are exiles, banished from our homes for our faith in Christ.” Naimandë continued, explaining their story. “The tyrannical empress commanded a great purge and many of our brothers and sisters were martyred.” He made the sign of the cross for the fallen faithful.  “We have no home, My Lord. Many of us can no longer have children; our names – such as they are – will die with us. We have only our faith in Christ and our determination to answer God’s calling to see the Holy Land saved from the infidels.”

“And the Edict?” Helcilo said in Quenya. Naimandë rolled his eyes at the Noldori’s request, ”You must hand it to them! It is an Edict from the Empress – might she live forever.

Naimandë swatted Helcilo’s hand before he could make the gesture to bless the empress, ”You still honor that abhorrent woman? After everything?”

The former Noldori High Blood looked sternly at Naimandë holding his hand out waiting, haughtily, to be handed the Edict. With a deep sigh and no further protest Naimandë gave it over to Helcilo. Taking the scroll in both hands he fell to his knees presenting it to Richard Lascelles, in very broken Latin he said, "Edict from Emperor.  Take."

The Edict was written in both Quenya and Latin:

Quote
Unto the Christians of the North, the Order of Mountjoy;

By the Divine Will of Her Most Holy and August Majesty, the Axantarimë Emperor, The Daughter of Heaven, Sovereign of the Great Cúldarë, She Who Sits Above All Thrones, The Authority of All, The Resolute, The Consolidator, Blessed and Sacred bequeaths upon the Grand Christian Enterprise a generous gift.

The gift of these men, your brothers in Christ; who have forsaken the Great Cúldarë and turned asunder the rituals and regulations that govern our world and protect the Empire from calamity, for they have no place in the order and tranquility of the Middle Kingdom. Take them into the Fold so that they may die in the endeavor to reclaim lands lost to infidels.

The men will fight valiantly knowing they shall meet their families once more in the Hereafter. For Our Imperial generosity knows no bounds! Know that We have given their families the greatest honor that the Christian cherishes: martyrdom.

May your Enterprise know success. Remember always the great generosity of the blessed Phoenix Throne.

So let it be written.

He heard it; they all did, as he climbed the stairs to rafters of the city walls. He saw his fellow countrymen forlornly looking out as the low hypnotic hymn of the enemy solders' dirge washed over them as it harmonized to the melodies of the highest timbre of the ethereal Emulators. With the rising sun he saw them, hundreds of thousands of soldiers emerging from the east. Their song coalesced into a symphony of dread and awe. He found it terrifying, yet beautiful; such was the power of their music, of their presence.

It was them, the Arda Tuluvans and their Armies of the Consolidation that marched ever onward by the Will of their Holy Sovereign, the Axantarimë Emperor. The rumors of the new Empress were true; she had declared the Second Grand Consolidation; to unite all the lands Under Heaven. He remembered his father and others talking that they need not fear the Consolidation; they weren’t Noldori, nor even Arda Tuluvan. He was Nadoan. Like his father and the people of Ebou Dar. But it seemed that the Noldori dominated Great Cúldarë Empire – as they called it. Had their sights further afield. He knew them as the Arda Tuluvan Empire; but that seemed so trivial now. Why had his thoughts gone to such nuances? They wanted Ebou Dar, the city of his birth, which was nestled between the Oron Eluin Mountains to the north and the Oron Aracarin Mountain range to the south. Ebou Dar was the threshold to the rich farm lands of the Nandorin basin.

He wanted to ask a soldier why they had not seen this coming. But, he knew the answer: the forward scouts must have encountered the Arda Tuluvans and were slaughtered before they had yet to return to the city. He remembered the panic from his father when hearing the scouts had not returned at dawn, precautions were made and many of the farmers and villagers had taken what they could retreating behind the protection of the Ebou Dar’s giant, sturdy walls.

From the rafters atop the city’s high walls he saw the Golden Banners of the Great Cúldarë, the formation of the Empire’s elite Mahtari soldiers. He had heard the stories from refugees and travelers about the Mahtari. An entire caste in Arda Tuluva dedicated solely to war, to their masters’ dreams of unifying all Under Heaven. It was said that from birth they were taught nothing but duty, obedience, and war.

He was in terrible awe at the sight of the thousands of soldiers, their siege weapons; which were a design he’d never seen, nor read about before. The Emulators’ song washed over him as his knees began to buckle. Then silence. The Ever-Victorious Army – as they called it, never having lost a war - stood unflinching below just beyond the rage of even the most trained Ebou Dari archer.

The Army did not approach. Instead they remained giving needed time to get the rest of the villagers into the city. The soldier to his right muttered something about honor and respect. But he couldn’t quite tell if the man was genuine or not. It was then he saw a tent being erected between the city gate and the Army, as the rear soldiers moved fanning out to surround the city.

An hour went by, maybe two or more. The Sun hung high in the sky now. He gulped as a hand pressed against his shoulder, “It is time.” He turned to see his father, the King. He nodded to him, his father showed no fear, only determination it renewed his own spirits. His hope.

Descending the stairs they were met in the courtyard by the Archbishop, and by the General, leader of their armies. How could they stand against that? He wondered.

“My King.” The withered soldier said.

“Majesty.” The old priest bowed his head.

The King mounted his horse, followed by the General, the Archbishop, a plump man in fine purple robes, had to be hoisted atop his horse. “No, son.” The King said before the boy could mount his own horse, “Remain here.” He nodded, not wanting to protest in front of his father’s subject.

They rode out soon as the gates were opened. He watched as they approached the tent cautiously. He couldn’t see much from this distance, but the Arda Tuluvans had given the King a seat and drink. They talked for some time before the Nadoans returned. The King’s face was ashen and he didn’t need to ask how the negotiations went.

The King of Ebou Dar jumped from his horse handing his ministers a yellow scroll. They gasped reading it, then handing it to the next. Finally the King’s son was able to see what was inscribed:

“Unto the King and the People of Ebou Dar.

By Will of Heaven these lands rightfully belong to the Great Cúldarë; sovereigns of All Under Heaven. The City of Ebou Dar shall submit to the Phoenix Throne. The King shall present himself in Armenelos to bow before the Throne.

The People of Ebou Dar shall renounce the vile blasphemy as followers of the false god and heretic known as the Christ. To this end, the people shall show dedication and penance to the Axantarimë Empress, the King is commanded to hang the Christian priests from the walls of the City.

Failure to obey shall result in the razing of Ebou Dar, it shall be struck from history. The Nadoan people shall cleansed from this land.

So let it be written.”

The gates were shut and barricaded, soldiers prepared for the siege and the battle. It was high past noon now. No song came from the Arda Tuluvans. No-one spoke in Ebou Dar. Only the soft shrill of a hawk could be heard. The boy stood atop the wall, again, looking out at the Ever-Victorious Army.

Those massive siege weapons were moved before the Mahtari soldiers, three dozen massive wooden weapons: they had a large arm that was pulled down which was attached to a massive counterweight on the opposite side. It was released; a flaming ball was thrown out lobbed high into the air as it arched towards the city. It hit the ground with a fiery explosion a hundred or so paces from the walls. The Ebou Dari soldiers began to laugh at their enemies’ failure. A jest they’d soon regret.

The Arda Tuluvans began shouting at each other as more weights were added to the buckets. The arm was slowly pulled down. Another fiery ball was thrown into the air, this time much higher as it arched. He knew it would go beyond the wall as he watched it sore, almost majestically, above him before crashing, exploding into a building, crumbling ablaze. Then the others. All of them. The arms were pulled down. One. Two. Eight. Twenty. He lost count as the fiery balls hurled into the city, onto and against walls. He ran from the rafters back to the safety – oh he prayed to God the castle would be safe.

He was with his mother and sisters now; praying to God, the Virgin, and all the Saints for salvation, for deliverance. It had gone on for hours, a continuing barrage of fire. Even from within the castle he heard the screams of people dying, burning. The sounds of explosions, of a raging fire. He knew then that the Arda Tuluvans had no intention of conquering the city, but of obliterating it.

Then it stopped. He left the safety of the sanctuary, much to the protest of his mother, and found his father on a balcony. Fear, sadness, filled his eyes now. His face was no longer full of determination, but of regret as he watched his beloved city burn mumbling futile prayers with his rosary. He made no intention to speak with his father, the King. He, too, stood there watching the horrors before him.

The fires raged all night, the people tried to contain it, snuff it out. But to no avail, it was everywhere. By dawn most of the city was cinder and ashes. It was then a new song could be heard from the Arda Tuluvans. He trembled at the sound. This wasn’t a song of war, nor of inspiration. It was a Song of Death. And it began anew. He saw the hurling fire reigning down on them. Falling to his knees, tears in his eyes he begged God to slaughter the enemies of Christ! To bring a plague on them!

For three days this continued. The entire city was in ashes and rubble. Parts of the walls had collapsed, the gate had fallen. Yet, the Armies of the Consolidation did not advance. They did not storm the city. It was on the fourth day everything changed. The day the Arda Tuluvans did not barrage the city at dawn. “My King! My King!” A soldier came running into the sanctuary of the Castle.

“What is it, solider?”

He saluted quickly, “A message from High General Fanyáremótar. She wishes to discuss terms! Praise be to God!”

He nodded, “Good. Good.” He looked at his son. “Our people are saved.” Turning to his wife, son, and daughters, “We must be strong in Christ, this will be our greatest test from God.”

The Archbishop raised his hands in the sign of the cross as those assembled genuflected, reciting the Lord’s prayer.

“My King.” The solider said again, “There are stipulations….”

Most of the citizens of the city had taken refuge in the catacombs, or were offered sanctuary in the castle’s underground. Of the 300,000 or so people who inhabited Ebou Dar only about 10,000 survived the onslaught. The entirety of the city was ash and ruble. Only the castle and cathedral still stood, almost defiantly so.

The priests, monks, and nuns were taken away as the men, women, and children under twelve were separated into three groups. The Arda Tuluvan soldiers surrounded each section.

“The Mercy of the Axantarimë Emperor is infinite.” An Arda Tuluvan official who had, not five days ago, read the terms of their surrender. “Yet, the King of Ebou Dar defied Her infallible will. Thus these blasphemers, spreaders of lies, orators of deceit and guile shall be put to death. For their crimes of spreading and teaching the heresy of Christianity, they shall be executed in the same manner as your false Messiah. Crucifixion.”

It has taken most of the afternoon to crucify the priests, monks, and nuns. Men and women wept as they saw their friends and family dying on crosses powerless to do anything. Fatigue, hunger, and most of all fear gripped the people of Ebou Dar.

It was then that High General Vánamírë Fanyáremótar a top her white horse in her ornate red armor approached the Ebou Dari women, “For I am a merciful woman and I shall give you much needed respite.” She paused smiling down at them as food and water was placed in front of them. Gesturing the women approached to quench their much needed thrust and satiate their hunger, a tinge of hope washed over their faces.

“Yet a greater boon I have for you all, oh Christian women. The greatest of them all: I shall make martyrs of you all.” She gestured to the soldiers who began stabbing the women with their spears, some tried to flee. There was panic. But the Mahtari soldiers were more than efficient at quelling them.

She galloped towards the group of men, who eyed her with furry and anger. She smiled at them, unfazed by their hatred. She looked to her soldiers, speaking clearly, “I am merciful and as gift to your heretic pope you shall be sent to your vile holy land to die for your heathen god against the other infidels.”

Before she galloped away, she turned back to them with a wicked smile. Speaking her soldiers, “The men shall all be castrated so that they can no longer produce and spread the abomination that is Christianity.”

The last group, the children. She said, “The children shall be sent to Vinyamar through the Orcerumë Desert and over the Oronruan Mountains. Those that survive shall be indoctrinated into the Mahtari caste. For this is the Will of the Great and Holy Axantarimë Emperor – might she live forever. So let it done.”

“You’ve had a fever.” An old man said. His face still hurt from the Chi-Roh scar the Arda Tuluvans had branded on his face. It seemed castration wasn’t enough for those bastards. “You’ve been in and out for weeks. I was afraid the Prince would not survive.”

“Prince. Puh.” He felt nauseous, was he on a ship? “A prince of what? Of ruin and ash?”

The man laughed, “I was told by many of your people to keep you alive. They told me: ‘the Prince must not die.’ Hah.” He laughed again, “Must not die, or what? They tried to threaten me! Ridiculous.” He handed him a bowl, “Drink this Young Princling. It will calm your fever.”

“Don’t call me that.”

“Then by what title?”

“Title!? I lost that when I lost…” He gestured downwards.

The old man burst out laughing, “I have met many eunuchs, but none so humorous. Then what shall you be called?”

“Naimandë.” The boy said after a long pause.

Ill-fated.” The man gave him a quizzical look, “Hah, humorous indeed. By the way, they call me Ehtelë.”

Naimandë took the bowl and drank the disgusting tonic. “How many of us are there?”

“When we were…. requested… to ferry you across the seas of Alucard and Kyne we had about 4,000 of you lot. Well 4,102 to be precise. We lost two ships in a storm within two days. You took a beam to the head. Almost killed you. Your wound opened again when you fell out of your bed in a fever dream. Ill-fated, indeed.”

“The question. Answer it.”

“I tend to babble.” The old man chuckled to himself, “Some died of fever, which spread. Others refused to eat, so they were thrown overboard. A mutiny caused us to scuttle a ship with some 800 aboard.” He tapped his chin thinking, “Maybe 1500 left. The Throne better compensate us for this. Three ships, of five! This excursion. Ill-fated, indeed. You are a determined bunch, I will I give you that. But, do you not wish to see the land your god is from?”

Another boy, around his own age of sixteen, groaned from another bed. “Give him no mind.” Ehtelë said, who seemed to be attending not only Naimandë, but several others as well, “He is just complaining. He is not even wounded. His brand healed well enough.”

“Who is he?” Naimandë inquired, he was sitting up now finally gauging his surroundings as the ship rocked back and forth.

“Another Christian the Throne has kindly gifted to this grand enterprise of yours.” The old man eyed the other boy, “It seems he once was of the High Blood.” He scoffed, “Such high ranking and now he is even lower than me. An Únótimari now, as you all are, when the Empire gave you that brand.”

He looked at Ehtelë inquisitively, “There was a great purge in the Empire.” The old man responded to unasked question. “It appeared that the Empress – might she live forever – does not have a liking to the people of your faith and has rid the Empire of your kind.”

Naimandë said a silent prayer to the martyrs who died for their faith across the whole of Arda Tuluva. He cursed the Empress – might she die! – he thought.

“Get some rest, my boy.” Ehtelë said patting him on the shoulder, “You will need it for the days to come.” For a Noldori this man was kind, Naimandë thought, but then he noticed the faded tattoos on the old man’s hands, a Hildari – the priestly caste, he would be obliged to see to their health and needs, even though he was now an ‘undesirable.’ He knew he shouldn’t judge an entire people just for the actions of a few. But he couldn’t help but hate them all. He closed his eyes with the thought that God is just, and their retribution will come.

In the next few days Naimandë walked around the large rectangular ship with its trademarked red ribbed sails. He recognized some of the men as soldiers and merchants from Ebou Dar. He had been approached by one who said that he had been talking to the men, and they had selected Naimandë as their leader. He did not want it, but he remembered one of the last things his father had said to him: “We must be strong in Christ, this will be our greatest test from God.”

The pompous former High Blood, who apparently was forced to take the name Helcilo Únessendil “the Forsaken Unfilial Son,” had assumed command – without protest - of the remaining Noldori. Naimandë and Helcilo eyed each other with suspicion, rarely talking. The now downtrodden Noble thought himself too high to speak with someone so low, it seems the Noldori had a hard time accepting his new position.

It was the following day that the three Arda Tuluvan ships arrived at the port of St. John. The captain and leader of the Noldori ships descended with a squirrely looking clerk who explained – in Latin – to the Harbor Master that the Phoenix Throne has a gift for the Christians in their crusade against the infidels. The 1,484 men from ages of about fourteen to sixty each with the Chi-Roh branded on their right cheeks were lined up. As crates were unloaded containing weapons and armor looted from Ebou Dar before the city was razed to the ground.

The Noldori ships sold other supplies and bought some more and would leave in the coming days. Naimandë, along with many of the Nadoans, spoke Latin proficiently enough. While very few of the Noldori did. Helcilo’s Latin was awful; besides the prayers he memorized, he couldn’t say much.

Naimandë and Helcilo took the lead in their march towards the Citadel, where they were told to go, just behind the squirrelly Noldori clerk – who was being carried in a sedan chair – and accompanied by a few guards. Once they all reached the Citadel he turned to the former High Blood and Pricne, “My duty is complete. I have brought the heretics to the Citadel of Saint John on this the twenty-sixth day of Hrívë in the Eight Year of the Most Holy Axantarimë.”

He handed three large scrolls to Naimandë before he departed. Looking at the scrolls it was a list of every man’s name and an inventory of their equipment. The two leaders told their men to remain here and go through their supplies as they entered the Citadel to inscribe their names into the Order of Mountjoy.

"Disharmony in the home, disharmony in the nation."
Calamity strikes at the heart of the Tercenë Dynasty!

Problems have arisen within the Arcalcassë Palace! Is Arda Tuluva's empress losing her grip on the Mandate? Many think so. As the old Arda Tuluvan saying about the Empress goes "Disharmony in the home, disharmony in the nation." Gossip Daily has the exclusive of the troubles gripping Arda Tuluva's ruling Dynasty.

Rumors have circulated among Arda Tuluva's ruling elite that the Virtuous Consort has not been seen in the Arcalcassë Palace from weeks as a picture of Aranince, the Virtuous Consort, has been seen of him in Lodja!

Computer facial recognition software confirm that that is in fact the Virtuous Consort strolling around the Isle of Tar, Lodja. He isn't wearing the traditional robes that Arda Tuluvans are so fond of, he's in modern clothes! This comes just days before the the Arcalcassë Palace released an official statement, saying:

"His Imperial Highness, the Virtuous Consort - ever pious and mindful, a filial son and loyal servant - has entered into solitude for a period of reflection and contemplation. Blessings answer fortune. May his ancestors watch over him."

Zhou Jielun, an expert on Arda Tuluvan culture and professor of history at Heimai University, corresponded with Gossip Daily, "Reflection and contemplation is a well known Arda Tuluvan locution that generally has but two meanings." He wrote in an email to Gossip daily, "One: an Arda Tuluvan is politely declining an invitation. Two: said person has made a grave transgression." Mr. Zhou explained that by the Arcalcassë publicly issuing the statement it must be the ladder reason.

Jacqueline Fine, Gossip Daily's astrologer and numerologist, speaks of the importance of timing in relation to certain Celestial bodies. As Arda Tuluvans are extremely superstitious the Virtuous Consort had gone into isolation during the Celestial month of Hlorëapimpe. "[The Consort's] sign falls under Nénelindo which is exalted by Hlorëapimpe." Ms. Fine told Gossip Daily that the extremely superstitious Arda Tuluvans find importance in the smallest of events, times, and places. By the Virtuous Consort taking his "period of reflection and contemplation" during this month it goes to show the seriousness of his error.

Mr. Zhou also wrote, "Now, to a foreigner these small nuances might seem insignificant, trivial beyond belief. But, to the Arda Tuluvans this is, in fact, monumental. Dynasties have been brought to the brink of collapse from sovereigns' inability to maintain ritual and regulations. Among [the Arda Tuluvans] it is commonly thought that if the Empress cannot keep her own household in line, how is she to keep the nation in line? It will be interesting to see how this develops in the future."

Our own expert on Arda Tuluva at Gossip Daily said that while the Mandate of Heaven (Arda Tuluvan ideology giving their sovereign the right to rule absolute) seems to be firmly in the Tercene Dynasty's hands it could just as easily slip away. Gossip Daily also finds it very interesting that Imatyva, Arda Tuluva's State Media, has remained suspiciously quiet about this event.

The Throne Issues rare Edict:
Axan i Sórino Hantyastanë - “Examinations By Imperial Decree

(The Edict posted at the Artaquë)

The Edict came as a surprise to many people throughout the Empire. It is thought by political experts that the Presidium is considering major policy change, especially pertaining to the economy, environmental technologies, and agriculture; as 50 of the 90 prepared essays candidates must submit involve topics on economic policy.

The last Examination by Decree was held in 5656 (2012) were most of the essay questions contained topics on isolationism and international politics. It was then proceeded by the Empire’s official end to isolationism two years later with an official visit from East Moreland’s Monarch, the honorable King David III, who was bequeathed with the Order of the Double Dragon by Her Most Sublime and August Majesty. Earlier this year Arda Tuluva signed the historic treaty with the Divine Queendom of Lodja solidifying the Empire to alliance with our southern neighbor.

The Edict was posted at government centers throughout the Empire with the Secretariat Bureau of the Press issuing a statement:

"By Will of the Phoenix Throne, the Celestial Court has issued an Imperial Edict in search of persons with expertise in economics, agrarian knowledge, and green technologies to help lead the Empire into a brighter tomorrow."

Hundreds of potential candidates must now submit 25 prepared essays on economic topics, 25 prepared essays on historic economic topics, 15 prepared essays on agricultural practices - from historic content to modern innovations, and 25 prepared essays on topics of renewable energies. Candidates that are selected from this pool will be invited to the Arcalcassë Palace to be interviewed before taking the final examination before the radiance and majesty of the Daughter of Heaven.

World's First Hydraulic-Driven Vertical Farm Produces 1 Ton of Vegetables Every Other Day

Year-round vegetables, minimal resources, climate-resistant—we've sung praises about vertical farms many times before. But Nindelos' Vilyalassë is something very special.

(Encaitar Hyaricánimarë at Vilyalassë)

Vilyalassë's four-story rotating greenhouse produces 1 ton of leafy greens every other day using a hydraulic-driven system that rotates and provides sunlight for the growing troughs. Designed by engineer and entrepreneur Encaitar Hyaricánimarë, Vilyalassë runs on a so-called Sky Urban Vertical Farming System and is also heralded as "the world’s first low-carbon hydraulic driven urban vertical farm."

What does that mean? Well, for such a modern and innovative idea, Vilyalassë actually uses rainwater and gravity. Using a water-pulley system, 38 growing troughs rotate around an A-shaped aluminum tower that's about 9 meters tall. The rotating troughs ensure even distribution of natural sunlight for each plant.

Not only that, the same water used to turn the troughs also nourishes the plants. According to the company, "With the plants irrigated and fertilized using a flooding method, there is no need for a sprinkler system thereby eliminating electricity wastage, as well as water wastage due to run-offs."

"Only 0.5 liters of water is required to rotate the 1.7 ton vertical structure," the company boasts. "The water is contained in a enclosed underground reservoir system and is recycled and reused." Additionally, only 40W electricity, or the equivalent of one light bulb, is needed to power a single 9 meter tower.

The farm consists of 1,000 vertical towers and produces 800 kilograms of cabbage, spinach, kale and other greens everyday for the bustling metropolis, according to the Nindelos Statistical Office. The farm has been producing vegetables commercially since 2015.

Vilyalassë's vegetables do cost slightly more than fare from traditional farms. "A 200g packet of Vilyalassë cabbage costs 1.25Ᵽ, while a 250g bag of Nórë Olvamilnar brand cabbage from a traditional farm costs 90 reli," The Statistical Office reported.

However, the publication also pointed out the freshness factor: it only takes four hours for Vilyalassë's produce to hit the shelves versus the three days to three weeks that imported vegetables require.

Vertical farming is ideal for densely packed cities such as Nindelos, which only produces about 7 percent of the vegetables it consumes. Its 20 and a half million inhabitants occupy a total land area of only 16,808 km². With this lack of nearby farmland, nearly 93 percent of Nindelos' "fresh" produce is imported. The Vilyalassë solution not only cuts the distance that food has to travel to get to plates, it helps ensure Nindelos' food security and helps the local economy.

This month, the Vilyalassë took home the Secretariat Award for Innovation and Sustainability in the "work" category. The prize, one of the most prestigious in Arda Tuluva's design world, recognizes innovations that help improve the world. Vilyalassë has also received government grant to expand its production.

The Sky Urban Vertical Farming System was given the award for representing "the next generation of sustainable urban agriculture" and for proving that "vertical farming can compete with, and produce better results than traditional farming," the Grand Secretariat said in a statement.

"Moreover," the Secretariat jury added, "it is a scalable design that can be implemented almost anywhere in the Empire, and has the capacity to ensure more food supply resilience across Arda Tuluva and the globe, as well as preserve the world’s natural resources."

Diplomacy and Events / Re: The Lodjain Court - IC
« on: December 04, 2017, 01:34:04 PM »
The Arda Tuluvan Princess wore a traditional Arda Tuluvan silken dress known as a arlapil noldorwa, or simply arlapil: it was lightly colored mainly white with blue and purple accents designed with flowers. Like many nobles of Arda Tuluva her hair was up and she wore many golden hairpins, the headdress style was called harcási.

Lord Minister Knežević bowed respectfully observing proper Arda Tuluvan protocol. It was then that the Princess noticed the jade pendant the Lodjan minister was wearing: a five clawed dragon with a ruby for the eye. She shot her servant a glance. This man has the Throne's gratitude. Nessanië was intrigued for this detail was not in any official reports. It was a known fact that Arda Tuluvans recorded and archived everything, no detail was to left out. It was curious why the Empress would have left this out of any report. Interesting. There must be a reason.

Ayane took the gift from Dragan Knežević showing the corsage to Nessanië, the two Arda Tuluvans started at each other for a moment; the Princess' face showed the minutest amount of surprise. She was impressed by this Lodjan's attention to detail. The corsage was made of Bleeding Heart Vine, which was her lucky flower of her birthyear as a Dragon sign. Ayane delicately placed the flower on her mistress' wrist. Nessanië had selected this particular design purposefully as the long, billowy sleeves so common to Arda Tuluvan arlapil fashion usually went to the wrists, this dress did not.

"Dragan Lord Knežević is given leave to rise." The Princess said, "It is with gratitude and joy that I accept this kind gift, My Lord." The Lodjan minister rose upright with a small smile. Such a handsome man, indeed. The Lady Arina had mentioned that he had not yet taken a consort, nor was he courting any noble woman. On top of all that, he has been kissed by fire; a good omen. To the Noldori those with red hair are considered to have good luck, after all, red was the color of fortune and prosperity. He has been blessed by Heaven.

Dragan must have done his research on Arda Tuluvan etiquette as he bowed slightly again before he turned holding his arm towards her, his palm facing the floor and head straight forward. The Princess gracefully set her hand softly on his wrist as he escorted her into the dinning hall, his head never turning to face her.

At the banquet table the Princess spoke and greeted her neighbors according to precedence; first Prince Fiodor of Rhand then Rudolph of Niameck, before they could speak, thus she has absolved them of any faux pas according to Arda Tuluvan social conventions. She was, after all, an ambassador and was in a foreign state, she would need to grow used to the great ignorance of many who did not understand the nature of things. However, most of the Princess' conversation during the dinner had been with the handsome Lord Dragan who had kept the dialogue light and upbeat. He had almost made her laugh, even. Laugh! And three times at that.

After the Dinner was over, Nessanië had excused herself temporarily into an adjourning room so that Ayane could amend her dress. The Princess' long train was bunched up and attached to the back, the other flowing fabrics were shortened, so that none would accidentally step on it during the ball.

"He is a Rat sign, Highness." Ayane said with a smile while she worked. "Most compatible."

"Who?" The Princess said, feigning ignorance. "What are you talking about, Ayane?"

"You know of whom I speak." Her servant teased, "I have also learned that his Celestial month is Wendë."

Nessanië made a quick gesture with her hand. Ayane stopped what she was doing and stood, Arda Tuluvans were obsessed with astrology with many following and observing it most strictly. "Interesting. Compatible on both the month and the year?"

"He is an attractive, intelligent man who has been kissed by fire, Highness. I think he has charmed you, has he not." Ayane said gaining an inquisitive look from the Princess, "Nessanië. I am not blind."

She signed a commanding gesture to her servant who bowed quickly before returning to her duty in silence. Unfurling her fan in a swift motion Nessanië stared off lost in thought.

Once Ayane had completed her task, the two reentered the Ballroom where the Princess gracefully made her way back to her escort for the evening who had been speaking with some gentlemen. Lord Dragan introduced the Princess who nodded in respect to the young lords as they bowed.

She handed her drink and fan to Ayane, ever near at hand, before turning to Dragan, "My Lord, would you honor me with a dance?"

Etiquette

Eating
Within traditional Arda Tuluvan thought, eating has far more functions than just filling the stomach or bringing gastronomic pleasure, eating is invested with many social functions.

The foremost function of eating was physical and mental cultivation. They categorized diners into three groups: Greedy eaters taking in as much food as possible without discrimination; gourmets meticulous about taste, preparation, cooking and ingredients; and those eating for reasons of health who emphasized purity, freshness and balance in everyday meals rather than exotic. The latter was the accepted approach to dining.

The second perceived function was strengthening kinship and friendship. At meal times, family members sat in an order distinguished by status and seniority. As now, friends also sat together around a dinner table as eating together enhanced communication, understanding and friendship as a whole.

In the Imperial society with its strict hierarchy, eating also functioned as a way of "reporting back to the superior and pepping up the subordinates." An invitation to an imperial banquet or bestowal of food by the emperor was a great honor for officials.

Attending an imperial banquet was, however, an exercise in protocol rather than pleasure. Diners had to be very careful not to breach the contemporary hierarchical etiquette. Diners had to be well dressed and properly behaved; they were seated in order of prominence and could neither walk around nor speak in an arbitrary fashion. Etiquette inspectors stood in banquet halls. Though strict, the real difficulty of these rules was remembering and following correctly the detailed eating formalities.

According to Imperial formalities, the host of a banquet issued invitations to his/her guests well in advance. On the banquet day the host or person in charge of protocol would greet the guests, who were then ushered into the sitting room for tea. When the banquet was about to begin, the guests would be led to their seats in the banquet hall.

In the traditional seating arrangement, the left or eastward side is considered most honorable, the seat facing the door most venerable of all. The second most prestigious seat is opposite the first, the third is adjacent to the first seat. And the fourth seat is next to the second.

When all were seated, the host would make a toast and invite guests to help themselves to the dishes, and the guests would express their thanks. After the banquet, the guests were again ushered into the sitting room to have tea until it was time to leave.

During a banquet, there were serving and eating etiquettes. Serving etiquette was mainly about where and how to place a dish. Rice and other staple foods were placed on the left hand side of a guest, soup to the right, meat farther away, and drinks, sauce and dressing within easy reach.

Also, clearly stipulated were matters things such as the direction in which a dish pointed, how a steward should hold a dish and where a main course was placed. When serving, the steward balanced a dish on his left palm with the right hand assisting. When answering a question, he would turn his face sideway to avoid speaking into the dish. The direction of a dish was considered particularly important when serving a whole fish. Usually the tail was placed toward the most honored guest because of its being easier to pick meat off the bone from the lower part. In winter, however, the fish fresh at the stomach is tender and rich, so this side was placed toward the honored guest. In summer the best part was its back.

A major aspect of eating etiquette was respect for seniority and superiority -- children for their parents, subordinates for their superiors, younger for older, and host for guest. It was reflected not only in order of seating, but also in eating. The basic principle was to start eating after the elders or superiors and stop when they did.

There were also many detailed norms of conduct to observe during a banquet or big family meal. For example, the younger or subordinates would sit farther away from the table than their elders and superiors to show respect before eating started and move closer to the table only when starting to eat. When honored guests arrived, other guests would stand up to show their respect. When the host invited a guest to help himself to a particular dish, the guest would always gratefully take some, and never dream of declining. There were also many prescribed eating taboos regarding gulping, pouring, slurping, and picking teeth during a meal.

Eating food with the wooden or metal sticks known as olwematsar in Quenya, has been the Arda Tuluvan practice for 4,000 years. Over the millennia, rules and taboos regarding their use have been formed and incorporated into ancient behavioral etiquette.

In ancient Arda Tuluva, olwematsar, or chopsticks, signified far more than tools that take food to the mouth; they also signified status and rules, "can" and "can't."

During the Manë Dynasty (910-1132) an official named Sóron Ilyanë once had dinner with the emperor. He was not well informed in noble table etiquette and so laid down his chopsticks horizontally on the table before the emperor did. As a result, he was expatriated to a frontier area for penal servitude.

Chopsticks placed in different ways had different meanings. Laying them horizontally mean that the diner had finished eating, but a subject could not declare himself full before his lord. The official's action was, therefore considered an encroachment upon imperial supremacy.

In eating etiquette, there are over a dozen taboos concerning chopsticks. For example, they cannot be used upside down, nor placed vertically into a dish, as this is the way of making sacrifices to the dead. Diners cannot tap or push a dish with chopsticks, nor use a chopstick as a fork by poking it into a piece of food. When taking food, they cannot go from one dish to another or let their chopsticks cross over those of others. When diners wanted to put down their chopsticks during a meal, they would place them lengthways on a chopstick holder, or on the plate, or spoon on their right hand side.

Drinking
Drinking together is an essential part of socializing and camaraderie. Thus, as any code of social conduct, it adheres to strict rules. For example:
  1 .One should never refuse to participate in a toast, as that could be interpreted as being Impolite. All people sitting at the same table must stand up, upon the initiative of one of the guests, and toast in succession;
  2. Elderly people and superiors should be served first. One should pay attention not to raise his/her glass higher than those of the respected elders; and
  3. If almien'yambë is called, the drinkers must slam the contents of the glass, and then show the other guests their glasses are empty.
4. There should always be a toast before each new round of drink.
5. Do not toast before the boss or host.
6. It is allowed for several people to propose a toast to one person. But it is not polite for one person to propose a toast to several people, unless one is the host or boss.
7. One who proposes a toast must drink more than the person toasted.
8. When proposing a toast, one should raise the glass below the glass of the person toasted, unless one is the host or boss.

The Able Consort took Queen-Crown Princess Serenity to the tracks soon after they had left the Banquet, along with Yuki and Lisa. Servants had brought Serentiy a number of racing gear in various sizes, she picked one out that suited her before meeting with the Able Consort, who had also changed. They all taken an underground rail that was utilized by the palace to move various furniture around the complex. It also lead to where Vanyon had build his race track. "It is called the Errívë Normémen, it is 6.5 kilometers in length, Your Highness."

Once they arrived at the Raceway Vanyon showed the Crown Princess to the garage where a large collection of various cars models were held, from modern to classic. Throughout the proceeding hours Serenity and Vanyon took various cars to race them around the track; the Princess soundly beat Vanyon in many of the challenges, after all, he was more of an enthusiast than a professional like the Achkaerinese Crown Princess. The two chatted and laughed between their bouts. The Able Consort had lowered the mask of Imperial serenity, he felt relaxed around this woman.

The following morning the Achkaerinese were awoken to the sound of a gong as a host of servants walked the corridors of the Palace of Tranquil Longevity announcing:

"Law of the nation.
Precept of the home.
Ancient, yet unchanged.
It is the Hour of the Dragon."

It was seven in the morning, the meeting between the Achkaerinese and Arda Tuluvans was scheduled to take place in two hours in the capital proper. Once the Achkaerinese Emperor and the others were ready, they were met by the Arda Tuluvan Proconsul, Eruvaryar Mehtarecárinë, outside of their residence at the Hall of Tranquil Longevity who bowed low and greeted the Empire’s guests.

“Good Morning, Your Imperial Majesty. Your Highness.” He bowed to each in Arda Tuluvan fashion – low at the waist right fist in his left palm - again as he recited their honorifics, “I am Eruvaryar Mehtarecárinë, Proconsul of State. It is a pleasure and honor to meet Her Most Sublime and August Majesty’s esteemed guests. The omens have been read and the portents sealed. Good fortunes are on the horizon, Majesty.”

The Proconsul gestured to a cortege of LFV sl300 limousines[1] that will take them all to the governmental megaplex known as the Artaquë. The limousines were adorned with Achkaerin’s flags and they had an honor guard of the elite Varnor Hlócë Condorië – the Dragon Martial Guard, a corps of the specially trained soldiers of the Imperial Garrison charged with protecting the Palace and honored guests of the Dynasty.

Procnsul Mehtarecárinë explained to the Emperor that they were driving upon the Promenade of Great Unity, a central pathway used exclusively for state functions connected the Palace in the west to the center of the capital where the bureaucracy was stationed. The Promenade seemed to be one continuous mosaic of design and color; it had taken decades and a thousand artisans to complete. The maintenance was excruciating and expensive, but art and beauty must be showcased. It was lined with colorful trees and marble statues depicting heroes of legends and famous Arda Tuluvans throughout history.

The Promenade of Great Unity ran through the Historic Quarters of Imladris, the newer; more modern, parts of the city could be seen further to the east. People lined the Promenade waving Arda Tuluvan and Achkaerinese flags alike. Many people wore traditional robes and hairstyles, while others had a complete modern look and some a mix. Eruvaryar explained that most Arda Tuluvans now fall into two social ideologies: yalwanúvë, traditionalists who maintain the old social order and the vinyanúvë, modernists who embrace the coming change and wish for social reform. Like all things in Arda Tuluva, it is far more complicated and intricate then the “traditionalists” versus “modernists”, as he explained that he would count himself as a vinyanúvist, though he values Arda Tuluva’s ancient customs, traditions, and styles. Though, he does wish to see greater reform.

“I trust His Majesty had an enjoyable dinner at the Pavilion of Delightful Fragrance? Reports indicate that it was a most enlightening evening for all assembled, a special presentation was even preformed for His Majesty the Liltamacili. Must have been a sight to behold.”

Eventually they arrived at their destination. Unlike the palaces of the Arcalcassë, the Artaquë was designed to awe in a more intimidating stately fashion than a celestial one. Whereas the other palaces were lively, full of color. The Artaquë was strung with hues of gold and black, of silver and white. It was clear that statues of judgment and mediation lined these halls.

The Emperor and his entourage eventually arrived at the Hall of Earthly Order where the Consul and the Presidium awaited. They all stood facing the door and bowed low at the waist, in a fashion the Achkaerinese have come accustomed to since their arrival, as they entered.

“Honor and glory, Your Majesty.” They said in unison.

The Consul gestured to the seat directly across from him at the end of the grey and black marble table designed with silver and white accents. After Emperor Peter and the other Achkaerinese took their seats did the Consul follow suit. The rest of the members of the Arda Tuluvan Presidium first bowed to Peter again then to the Consul before they, too, took their seats.

Servants brought a small glass with rice wine in it to each member at the table. Standing the Consul lifted his glass, "To a fruitful meeting."

"May it yield plentiful." The other members of the presidium said in toast.

The Adûnaim

A brief history

The Adûnaim are natives to the western Orcerumë sandseas of Arda Tuluva, which they call the Zâyan, the Waste. Born to a harsh desert climate the Adûnaim are hard, warlike people who were never unified under a single leader. Though, prophesy often spoke of a khôr'Bârîm, Lord of Lords. However, the old tribes - or Zadâni, were ruled by a Warlord, Zagakhôr, chiefs who conquered and ruled more than one tribe often added an honorific "Ar" before their title signifying "high" or "royal".

Among the Adûnaim there are societies, hê'Kurai. It does not matter which Zadâni, tribe, one belongs to he/she could join any hê'Kurai. The hê'Kurai often fight among themselves for glory and honor. But, when Tribes would declare war on another tribe the men/women of the hê'Kurai would leave their respected society to fight for the honor of their Zadâni

Men and women were considered equal in Adûnaim society and fought among their own ranks. Never did men and women fight in the same society. But would fight with each other during a Zadângar, a Tribe war.

The Adûnaim were eventually semi-unified under the reign of High Warlord Ar-Pharazôn, the self proclaimed khôr'Bârîm. He had come to take command and unify many of the scattered tribes against the invading hordes of the Arda Tuluvan Consolidation that wished to end the constant raiding on their western border.

After a long and costly war, the Warlord Ar-Gimilzôr, the great-grandson of the famed khôr'Bârîm Ar-Pharazôn, bent his knee to the Noldori empress and swore a "water oath" to the Throne of eternal toh. The Adûnaim pride themselves of never breaking an oath and since then have remained loyal to the Throne. To this day the Empress is protected by the elite Abrazânai, the Faithful.

(Soldiers of the Abrazânai)

The Adûnaim are largely left to their own devices as long as they do not raid outside of the Special Administrative Region.

ji’e’toh

Ji’e’toh is the complex system of honor that the Adûnaim follow. Ji’e’toh determines all interactions in Adûnaim life; fighting, housing, even intimate relationships and marriage. The term is, literally, honor and obligation.

Ji is honor, and toh is obligation. The greatest ji comes from touching an armed enemy in battle without harming him. This incurs a great deal of toh, and the person who is touched usually becomes gai’tan’Azgai, which in Adûnaic means "pledged to peace in battle." A gai’tan’Azgai serves his or her captor for a year and a day, touching no weapon, doing no battle, and wearing only white. A Wise One, blacksmith, woman with a child under the age of ten or a youth (under the age of 16) may not be made gai’tan’Azgai.

The least amount of ji comes from killing an enemy, as the Adûnaim believe that killing is easier than leaving an enemy alive.

Under ji’e’toh, any shaming act incurs toh towards someone or even oneself. However if the act is not either seen or acknowledged by others, it might as well have never taken place. Only the one doing such an act can know the worth of one's pride and can claim toh.

As such, meeting toh, through being gai’tan’Azgai, being beaten, enduring a shamefully trivial punishment, or otherwise paying back the debt of honor, is always somehow self-inflicted as any Adûnaim can stop it by just saying anytime outright that their toh has been met. It is possible for the one wronged under ji’e’toh to say publicly that the wrongdoer doesn't have any toh toward him, freeing the wrongdoer from any toh.

Once met, the act that generated that toh is supposed to have never happened.

Among the shaming acts, there are:

  • Reminding or asking gai’tan’Azgai of their life before. Being gai’tan’Azgai is a kind of parenthesis in Adûnaim life, so reminding gai’tan’Azgai of their earlier life is like reminding them of the shame that brought them to their station. As gai’tan’Azgai are considered defenseless as babies, mistreating them in any way (even by recalling their previous life) is shameful, and thus incurs toh. This is one of the rare ways to incur toh toward a gai’tan’Azgai.

  • Asking publicly if you have toh. Asking means that you don't know and as such further means that you were not taught properly. The shame is on the teacher, who has toh towards themselves and whoever told them to teach you in the first place.

  • Reminding someone of toh they have already met. After being met, toh is supposed to never have been. Reminding someone of it (by talking of their time as gai’tan’Azgai for instance) is shameful and incurs toh toward them.
ji’e’toh is not a monolithic set of rules to be followed blindly. Sometimes, what needs to be done would be against the rules. The wrongdoer would still be following ji’e’toh as long as he's willing to meet the toh later.
Encompassing duty and custom, law and life, all Adûnaim live by this honor system. Following ji’e’toh is in fact what defines an Adûnaim.

Apart from those, the ways and workings of the system are convoluted and twisted. Non-Adûnaim attempting to understand it almost invariably come out little more knowledgeable than before.

gai’tan’Azgai

One of the most bizarre convolutions of ji'e'toh concerns the taking of gai’tan’Azgai, "those sworn to peace in battle". Adûnaim earn honor and prestige for deeds in battle--or accumulate shame by misdeeds--but killing an opponent earns the least honor; "any child can kill". What earns the most honor is touching the opponent while they are holding a weapon, but without harming them. An Adûnai so shamed is considered to have toh -- obligation -- to the person who touched them, and will march straight to that person and demand to be made gai’tan’Azgai, at which point they don white robes, become that person's peaceful servant in all but name for a year and a day, and swear not to touch a weapon, or even defend themselves, during that time.
Becoming gai’tan’Azgai is a way to answer for toh; it is totally voluntary and can be used to atone for non-battle-related shaming as well. Gai’tan’Azgai are not slaves, and any foreigner who suggests it is soon straightened out. Conversely, Adûnaim are horrified and confused by the concept of "servants", people who work throughout their life in the service of others.

Wise Ones, children, pregnant women, women with a child under the age of ten, and blacksmiths cannot be taken gai’tan’Azgai. Exact "ownership" of the gai’tan’Azgai is a variable matter; though each gai’tan’Azgai swears only to one person, they can be and are often instructed to obey commands from other people as well. On occasion a man will allow himself to be taken gai’tan’Azgai by a Maiden (Kali) he wishes to marry in an attempt to get her to fall in love with him during his time of servitude. The Maiden never does because they would never look at a gai’tan’Azgai as a potential mate, and usually "teach them to sing", something Adûnaim men do not do unless a battle hymn or dirge for the slain.

Water Oath

A water oath is an agreement traditionally between members of the Adûnaim that is sworn over water. It is considered an extremely serious oath and is rarely broken.

The Fifth

When a group of Adûnaim take one of the holds of an enemy clan in the Waste, by custom they carry away one fifth of all it contains, excepting only food.

Culture

The Adûnaim are organized on several different levels. There are twelve Adûnaim clans, each of which has a Zagakhôr, warlord/clan chief; clans are further divided into septs, and septs subdivide into holdings (which are individual settlements; each clan and sept also has a central hold). Adûnaim warriors also affiliate themselves with various warrior societies, hê'Kurai, of which there are twelve. The only society to accept women is the Kali Zagarai, the Maidens of the Spear; their members 'marry' their spears and are forbidden to take men into their lives on a permanent basis without forfeiting membership.

The lines of loyalty amongst clan, sept and society are tangled; but, roughly, allegiance to one's warrior society trumps clan allegiance. This appears counter-intuitive until one remembers that the clans are in a state of almost perpetual multidirectional warfare; since Adûnaim from any clan can join any society, and will not raise spear against fellow society members, this allows open lines of diplomacy between all clans at all times. Some Adûnaim even sojourn with their societies to avoid participating in clan feuds.
