The Hunter And The Pike

(1/1)

Beatrice:

IRN Hunting Girl
Hunting Girl had put to sea as she often did, silently, from Naval Station Hoshiko bound first for the Kyne and, later, the Sea of Alucard. Along the way she was to rendezvous with HTMS James Pike as the threat of Gungnir against foreign satellites continued to be a serious concern of Pyrettania and Tsargrad. Prior to her departure from Hosiko Hunting Girl had taken on a few new Gremlin-equipped missiles, in addition to her usual compliment, which would be utilized should Gungnir target any assets of the First Empire or her allies. With any luck these measures would not prove to be necessary, however, maintaining a capacity to act should Nya Åland prove incapable of preventing such a scenario remained the primary objective. Imperial High Command would relay to its Tytorian counterparts that permission had been secured to utilize Dartfordian waters to shorten the voyage, at least somewhat.

Tytor:
HTMS James Pike, Captain Sir Eli Graves commanding, departed Williamshaven on a course for Floodwater without advance knowledge of its mission.  Three hours into the cruise, as instructed, Captain Graves opened the envelope containing his orders.  They came as no surprise.

"Captain Eli Graves," the letter read, "You are hereby tasked to represent Tytorian interests in the Sea of Alucard in relation to the Gungnir crisis.  For this purpose, you will accompany the attack submarine Hunting Girl of the Imperial Rokkenjiman Navy on its course to the same location.  Once rendezvous has occurred, it will become your mission to prevent and respond to attacks on CSTO assets in and above Nya Åland.  As the level of Gungnir capabilities is unknown at present, you will avoid the use of satellite-based technologies to the extent possible, navigation excluded.  Use of force is authorized only under extreme circumstances, and you are advised to follow Hunting Girl's lead as you deem prudent."  A list of mission-critical coordinates followed.

Having now received his instructions, Captain Graves gave the orders necessary to get the James Pike to its rendezvous.  He smiled grimly as they were carried out.

Beatrice:
IRN Hunting Girl, Sea of Kyne.

Sophia Forrester had read her orders thrice now, knowing that the secret duty of Hunting Girl was required yet again to ensure the interests of the First Empire. "Have we reached the rendezvous coordinates yet?" she asked aloud as she stepped onto the bridge. "Indeed we have," came the reply, to which she nodded. "Excellent, and the Pike?"

"As we expected," came another response. "In that case, please verify our range, one ping please."

This would signify to Captain Graves for the next portion of their joint mission, a voyage to the Sea of Alucard where they would remain on position should Gungnir strike their allied interests, was set to begin upon their confirmation of receipt.

Tytor:
HTMS James Pike
Sea of Kyne

"Captain, Hunting Girl has established contact."

The voice of the communications officer on duty interrupted Graves' attempts to commit his orders to memory.  Memorization was a skill he'd never had naturally; what better time to practice than on an extended mission?  "Very good," he said, "Confirm range, one ping."  So it begins, he thought.

"Aye, Captain."

The mission of the Hunting Girl and the James Pike would take the two submarines on a path around Albion, out of the Kyne, and into the Alucard.  Graves had a second envelope with instructions of what to do when they got there, depending on the situation on the ground; he'd deal with that one later.  In the meantime, he waited patiently for Captain Forrester to make the first move.

Hunting Girl would be taking point, after all.
