CNN Security Meeting Jan 2023
« on: January 27, 2023, 09:38:33 AM »

As the designated Chair of the CNN until 31st of March I am informing the membership of the need for a meeting of importance relating to the changing situation within Rokkenjima and intelligence we have to share. The meeting will be open to all those cleared for Classified briefings and shall be hosted by  East Moreland Special Military Envoy Duke Richard Kelly, former commander of Red Legion. We would ask for you all to attend at 8am prompt.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Nation Know Peace

King David III

It had been a rather unexpected phone call when Richard Kelly had received the phone call from the King. He'd been "retired" just a few months but never a man to be idle he'd busied himself with his new business, Red-e Security Consultancy, it had so far been active in Heyra and also handled a few close protection jobs and a lot of training roles. Now though the King had asked him to return to the fold in a sense and so the former Brigadier had, like a good soldier, packed his gear and headed to Ui Cenneslaig.

He entered the conference room having expected not to be in such a place again but wasted no time in setting himself up, folders of information, various maps and of course his mug which he now filled with tea. He had brought with him a few members of staff. Following King David's call he had made a few of his own and assembled a team to help him in his new position. First there was Dom Evanson, he had been a quartermaster up at Aldcliffe for the past decade. He'd been a Red Legionnaire who had lost a leg in the Alps fighting the Borlanders and rather than being discharged he had, as many injured Red Legionnaires seemed to, found a role in the Legions day to day staff. Now he was Kelly's aide de camp charged with getting him to where he needs to be and keeping his mug topped up. Next there was Cara Fairchild, she had been one of the many Naval liason officers Richard had dealt with in his career and their mutual support of Northfort Royals rugby team had made them friends. She now helped at his consultancy company and would be serving as his liaison officer. Finally Joel May, a youngster who had been kicked out of the Cyber Legion for punching his commanding officer after he had discovered the officer had been too hands on with some of the new female recruits. After he'd finished serving time in Northfort Military Barracks Richard had offered him a job and now he handled all the tasks modern technology required that Richard couldn't be bothered with. The four of them waited for the others to file in and then Richard stood to signal the meeting was beginning.

"Ladies and Gentleman thank you for your attendance. I never expected to back in this kind of saddle at this level but time waits for no man so lets get this show on the road." He casually flung some documents around the table like dealing cards. "That" he flung open his own copy and held up a photo "Is Arisa Mizuno, at one time a member of Rokkenjima's Intelligence community, now dead. She was found to have had dealings with some rather unpleasant characters in Zimalia. Those included suspected links with the Borlanders based there. Now this sounds rather bad that we have a member of the Rokk intel family working with terrorists, but its going to get worse before it gets better. In that folder you'll find evidence connecting her with a certain Mr.Charles Ofdensen, the same snake who just may have pulled off some kind of election win back home. Now it does get better because in 2018 Miss Mizuno was found dead." He picked up another photo "Misako Anno, another Rok agent, more evidence of connections to Ofdensen. We have several more examples I could give but we get the picture." He closed his own folders. "I've been asked to call this meeting because my King wants us to, with immediate effect, drop all intelligence sharing with Rokkenjima. The exception being if you're sat on information that would save civilian lives. We do not want to risk information getting to Ofdensen and through him to the Borlanders or Helus knows who else. As far as East Moreland is concerned Rokkenjima is now a security risk. I believe none of you have any actual diplomatic, economic or security links to Rokkenjima so in that regards we have nothing to concern ourselves about. King David is going to examine the impact on those in the coming days. So in effect our meeting is simple. Are we having a CNN Cut Rok off party?"

Martin Voronin had served four Queens now and seen both the old sorry state of the Lodjian military and now the still not perfect but steadily improving military of today. He had been happy to be appointed to the CNN as the Voronin family were first generation Patricians, his own military service triggering the families promotion in the ranks so to speak. He took the time to read the documents and examine the folders. "I am concerned that it's taken this long to bring such a thing to our attention. It would obviously have influenced our dealings with Rokkenjima, however I would note that our treaty with them is a trade based one. Not something that ties us to any intelligence sharing so we do not have the need to extricate ourselves from anything. With their limited connections via the Cross Straits we have little to concern ourselves about even being connected in a round about way. I am sure when she sees my recommendation to support this Her Majesty will give her support."

Assumpta MacDhuibhshíthe was more of a career politician than the others but her whole family had served in the Cenneg Armed Forces and she had spent nearly 20 years sat on various military connected committees so was not a stranger to classified briefings. She'd even served as King Finley's Minister of Defence for three years at one point. "Ui Cenneslaig have a bit more of a complex problem. We are members of the Assembly of Ardia. This means we have some connections to Rokkenjima however only in certain spheres, we have to share criminal intelligence, but nothing more. As such we can I believe comply with your request." She placed the folder down. "I would though like to ask why this matter of a compromised Rokkenjiman intelligence network wasn't brought to the CNN before this?"

The Cenneg seemed slightly annoyed and Kelly couldn't blame them. "I've no say in decisions that high up, I would have personally cut the Rok's off at that point however that was not the case. To the best of my estimation we've had no issue arising from this beyond internal Rokkenjiman stuff and the Achkaerin forces effectively trying to manage them. Frankly I'm disappointed in the Achkaerin security forces, had Ofdensen been in East Moreland he'd have likely slipped and fell on the old 19th Century metal stairs in our prisons and sadly broke his neck, or meet with a guy called Bubba and his shank in the shower. This way we'd never be facing a situation of having a war criminal in one of the positions of government in Rokkenjima." He took stock for a moment. It seems though that we are all on the same page so far."

It was true that Piripi had no love for he Rokkenjimans and was not someone to easily trust people who choose to enter politics as a career choice. As such he had no problems sending word to his envoy to the CNN, Te Taka Tūhono to agree to King David's request.

With immediate effect the Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi is considering all Rokkenjiman military assets as potentially hostile. Having heard of their attack on Daito aircraft over the islands in the Rokkenjiman Sea and the hostile foreign rhetoric of Charles Ofdensen who, in terms of politics, has 49.7% of Rokkenjima's public support at the last elections. We must therefore not rule out the possibility of this being the first shots in a potential civil war and escalation in the region. We are therefore formally asking CNN forces to go onto alert and we would naturally welcome our nation as a home for CNN forces for the time being.

Following discussions in Northfort the Kingdom of East Moreland shares the opinion of the Iwi. We are also going to consider all Rokkenjiman military assets as hostile. Furthermore accepting King Piripi's invitation we shall move a squadron of Dragonbreath fighters, a mixed squadron of Dragon-Bane and Spotter aircraft. In addition expect a Squadron of around 80 Red Legionnaires and their equipment. We are moving REMNS Chamwick to the region along with its escort to help monitor Commonwealth waters. We hope this is acceptable.

The fact that it is clear parts of the Rokkenjiman military have betrayed their oaths is worrying. We saw the confusion of trying to ascertain which side renegade forces were on during the recent Lodjain conflict and we should learn those lessons. As such we agree to declare all Rokkenjiman assets as hostile and having seen King David's decleration in the press will issue identical orders.

For the support and reassurance of our Maori friends we shall dispatch a carrier and escort immediately. It is our hope that this will reach in a a few days from stops in Ruaslaiblh.

With the scenario in the Rokkenjiman Sea now seemingly in hand by the Ardian Assembly the immediate matter at hand is our future stance towards the Rokkenjiman military. We ourselves saw similar crisis in 2021 where elements of our military showed betrayal and we took a significant time to be confident of rooting out all such elements of our military. My concern is that the recent Rokkenjiman statement claims that their own military have already completed a review and stated in regards to their military that the disloyal parts "have either been taken into custody or otherwise rendered inert" It is our belief that this is too quick to be sure, we found deep rooted elements plotting some months after the situation, many deliberately not showing signs of disloyalty until much later. With this in mind I would suggest to the Iwi that those CNN assets that have made their way to Ardia remain for the time being. We suggest caution should still be taken regarding Rokkenjiman forces as despite this incident their appears to still be sabre rattling among the former (???) Cross Straits membership.

As a nation that has been requested to examine the situation in Rokkenjima there are areas of concern. Our investigation into the forces which undertook the initial attack were undertaken quickly as a part of attempts to de-escalate the situation. We found messages linking to the vessels involved that went back four weeks, however the true extent to the ships involved and time frame this had been planned is still not known to us and as our report says regarding how long this disloyalty had been ongoing " given more time this time frame could be much longer.". In addition we found evidence of involvement of people outside the military manipulating the situation. We therefore support the position of the Lodja government and will, if required, maintain our naval forces in The Iwi if King Piripi wishes.
