The Young Pope:
History and other tidbits between Quintelia and the Ecclesiastical State

King Lapu of Quintelia (Left), Pope Peter II of ES (right)
The relationship between the Ecclesiastical State and Quintelia has historically been strong and has been described as a Special Relationship. Quintelia is one of the oldest Ardian partners of ES and a strategically major non-organisational ally. ES was consistently ranked as one of Quintelia's favorite nations in the world, with 90% of Quintelians viewing ES and 91% viewing Ecclesiasticals favorably in 2002, 90% of Quintelians viewing ES influence positively in 2011, 85% of Quintelians viewing the ES and Ecclesiasticals favorably in 2013, and 92% of Quintelians viewing ES favorably in 2015, and 94% having confidence in the Pope in 2017, Peter II, making Quintelia the most pro-Ecclesiastical country in the world.

This thread is aimed towards Quintelian–ES relations after Quintelian independence from the Ecclesiastical State in the 1880s, as well as the History of Quintelia (1620–1885) during ES colonial rule. It's however open to everyone located in close proximity to either nation as well as those having ideas they want to discuss regarding the two above-mentioned nations.

Achkaerin:
You may have to factor in the Ardian Empire a little here, given the extent of that Empire during the time period stated going all the way out to Rokkenjima so it's reach is definitely in the neighborhood, obviously Quintelia isn't an Ardian colony and presumably never was since the Ardian's don't take a hit till 1684 when Rokkenjima breaks from them. So you're going to probably have to consider a non aggression pact or some such between ES and the Ardians along the same lines as what to my knowledge Vaguzia had with Ardia given that Phuebra was a Vaguzian colony yet wasn't occupied by the Ardian's.

Also I'd suggest you think about other known events in the area that take place in the time period your talking about setting this in so

1) 1684 - Rokkenjima breaks from Ardia
2) 1707-1710 (approx) Toshikawan Samurai uprising against Ardia
3) 1750's - Rokkenjima Naval supremacy over Rokkenjiman sea established this sees the rise of the Rokkenjiman Navy in the area.
4) 1847 - 1870 ish - War of the Five Queens - note that this one does include things going on in the Strait of Shaw area which sees Ardia's trading capability take a hit and does some setting of the stage for the Great War.

There may be others but those are the four I definitely know of that would be of likely direct consequence, there's also the collapse of the Rus Empire on Aranye in 1760 but that's likely to have at best the most minimal of effects and even then only because the Rus Empire was the main opposition to Ardia.

The Young Pope:
Thanks for relaying that info; Definitely those events would surely not have passed without any reaction from ES and Quintelia at the time, the war of the five Queens sounds interesting, will see if ES might've been involved in these events.

Major Jaws:
There are a few things those events could make:
1. The Rokkenjiman declaration of independence could inspire the Quintelians to have freedom.
2. The Toshikawan Samurai uprising could also inspire violent revolts all over the colony. This could start the crack on the relationship of ES and Quintelia.
3. The Rokkenjiman naval supremacy could indicate that ES aft that time is starting to weaken, with more revolts by the year.
During the 1885, Quintelia will declare independence (check my factbook) and then ES will start repairing relations afterwards. I still don't know anything about the Five Queens but, yeah.

The Young Pope:
I would like to point out that the so-called Rokkenjiman Naval Supremacy wouldn't have indicated that ES was weakened at all considering its naval power was quite grand too. Otherwise the other points brought up are agreeable.
