Today the election campaign has officially started with parties and candidates now being able to campaign freely for the 300 seats of the Parliament as well as the office of President of the Federal Republic. For the first time the party leading the polls is the Monarchist Party, with the Conservative Coalition trailing behind just 2 points. For the office of president Mr. Karim Najafi of the Monarchist Party is favored with the current president Mr.  Rustam Marikanov of the Conservative Coalition polling behind just 2 points. The Monarchist Party has seen a steady increase in support as immigration in the Republic has increased in the last decades.
These elections could be the most important ones for the Federal Republic as both Mr. Karim Najafi and the Monarchist Party have pledged to end the republican system of government should they get elected and turn the Slavic Federation into a monarchy like many of the countries in Midaranye. Other issues are expected to also play major role in the campaign like: the high unemployment now at over 15%, immigration, the status of the 2 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the Federal Republic, crime and the reforming the justice system, racial and religious tensions, the role of religion in the public space, the current recession, the high public debt which is now over 100% of GDP and foreign relations, especially the relations the Federal Republic has with the countries of Midaranye.

Major outcry after person accused of murder and rape is set free

Igor Nabriski which has been accused of the murder and rape of three women is to be set be freed after prosecutors apparently mishandled critical evidence and thus cannot be used in court. Furthermore, his lawyer has provided evidence that prosecutors did not respect his rights during the investigation causing him both stress and emotional harm. Mr. Nabriski is set to be released tomorrow and his lawyer has already issued a statement saying that they will sue the prosecutors for damages.

The case has further divided society on ethnic lines. Slavic MPs have stated that the trial was in accordance the constitution which provides defendants with rights which have to be respected and that the defendant remains innocent until proven guilty.

On the other hand, one Parthian MP called the trial and judicial proceedings "the perfect example of everything that is wrong in this country: criminals are protected while victims and their families are made to pay because I have no doubt this monster will win in court and force all of us, including the victims' families, to pay him millions. Anywhere else in Midaranye such a case would see the man either enslaved or get the death sentence.  One only needs to look at how Clysperis handles these things. This Republic however prefers to go out of its way to protect criminals. "

Many in the Parthian community are asking people to protest against the court's s decision with police expecting crowds of at least 40.000 to show up during the weekend.

Motto:- One nation, one country

BACKGROUND

History: The Slavic Federation is a democratic federal republic located in Southern Midaranye. It has managed to avoid communism and unlike its Eastern neighbor, Slava Lavasok, has remained a democratic country though the 20th century and beyond.

From the early 1940 the Slavic Federation has opened the country to foreign immigration and has accepted millions over the decades mainly from the poorer countries of Midaranye: Tamora, Clysperis and Pramoria.

Today: The country is heavily divided along ethnic and religious lines. A large proportion of the electorate, mainly from an immigrant background, wants to see an end to the Republic and install a monarchy because they consider the current Republican system as a relic that is out of touch with Midaranye values. While the country is plagued by high unemployment and social unrest it remains more prosperous than the average Midaranye country and guarantees under its federal constitution extensive rights for its citizens and a secular government. The Slavic Federation continues to be a magnet for immigration from around the Midaranye region.
