Just Another Blue Milk Run - A Star Wars Legends RP (IC Thread)
« on: November 26, 2020, 07:07:12 AM »
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Just Another Blue Milk Run
A Star Wars Legends RP

A shadow has fallen across the galaxy.  For sixteen years, the
GALACTIC EMPIRE has ruled trillions of beings with an iron fist.
Resistance movements have formed, fought, and failed, as the
Empire continues to consolidate its grasp on power.

Through the efforts of the INQUISITORIUS, the Empire's most
deadly enforcers, the Jedi Order, guardians of the old Republic,
have been driven to virtual extinction.  One by one, remaining
vestiges of the Republic are being swept away.

In this atmosphere of oppression, some scattered bright spots
of relative freedom remain, though even there the Empire's
spies are always present.  On one of these, NAR SHADDAA, a
small group of unlikely heroes congregates...

For a spaceport watering hole, the Cluster was very run down.  Granted, this being Nar Shaddaa, this was pretty much par for the course.  The main bar stank of alcohol and other intoxicants, and the noise level was a fairly typical dull roar.  The patrons weren't much better; sentients from almost every line of work, legitimate or otherwise, milled about, nursing drinks and generally looking as shady as they behaved.  It was into this den of thieves that Tien Thun walked, synthleather jacket gleaming, DL-18 blaster pistol displayed prominently on his hip.  The Nikto bouncer grunted at him as he entered the establishment, his droid, Threebie, following close behind.

«Cantina + patrons = potentially dangerous // Tien = sure cantina safe?» Threebie whistled at Tien.

"Yes, Threebie," Tien replied, amused, "I'm sure the cantina is safe."

«Threebie = worried // Tien = worried too?» Threebie whistled again, clearly not satisfied.

"No, I'm not," Tien said, "Stop worrying so much.  I've been here loads of times; you know that."

Threebie didn't respond, which Tien took to mean that she'd at least begrudgingly accepted his reassurances for the time being.  Of course, the almost neurotic little droid was bound to start worrying again real soon.  Smiling to himself at the eccentricities of his mechanical companion, Tien selected a recently vacated table, sat down, and waved over a battered old serving droid so as to order a Corellian ale.  As he nursed his drink, he watched the crowd, picking out a couple of Humans who looked somehow out of the ordinary.  Each appeared to be part of that hazily-defined underclass of hired guns, but at the same time there was something... different... about them.  Tien couldn't quite put his finger on it.

No matter.  Tien took another sip of ale and let his mind start to wander.

There were few things that Anja Jonew could enjoy these days, few things that made her happy, she certainly wouldn't have expected to find anything of the sort on the smugglers moon but on a moon full of smugglers, thieves and refugees - the very definition of a home of the desperate there were a lot of people who liked a good game of Dejarik and that was a game that Anja excelled at and it was one of the things that reminded her of happier times. She cupped her chin as she looked across the circular board  towards her opponent, an Iridonian regular of the Cluster, and smiled as he contemplated his move. After a few moments the Iridonian moved his Kintan Strider and took Anja's K'lor'slug, it was a wooden set not one of the fancy holo imager ones. Anja raised an eyebrow and moved her Ng'ok piece right next to her opponents strider.

"Got me again." The Iridonian said smiling.
"You're getting better." Anja said "You just need to see the whole board."
"Well I'll learn." The Iridonian said "Next time I'll beat you."
"We'll see." Anja said

The Iridonian left and Anja grinned as she relaxed in the seat she was sat in. It brought back memories of a happier time, back when she'd been a Jedi Padawan her master a man by the name Ruves Aljand, a good man if slightly eccentric at times, had spent a lot of Anja's studies on games like Dejarik, she'd only just been starting out on her Force studies when it had all changed a day that none who'd survived would ever forget, for years the Jedi been fighting a war on behalf of the Republic leading the clone armies into battle but while they'd been like the pieces on the Dejarik board what they'd never conceived was that the two players of the game were in fact one and the same. She sighed again and sipped on her drink, her mind drifted back a few years.

Sixteen Years Earlier, the day of Order 66

It was just another day in space the fleet of Republic vessels was heading on its way to the Mid Rim, the war was reportedly almost over. Count Dooku was defeated and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi had tracked General Grievous down, the war could be over in a matter of hours. Aboard the fleet's flagship Anja and her master were sparring with their lightsabre's her cyan blade clashed with her master's orange one. Like most Jedi Ruves wore the typical white under layer and the brown robe over the top, by comparison Anja wore the same underlayer but a red robe lined with black.

"You're rushing." Ruves said before sweeping Anja's feet from under her and landing her on her back. "Don't leave yourself open." he took a step back as Anja got back to her feet "Don't react." the man said as they began to spar again "Trust the Force, let it guide you, anticipate my next move." Anja could only try and gradually she started to feel something and was able to at least do some of what Ruves was saying but then both of them took a sudden step back.

"I felt it to." Anja said "A disturbance in the Force."
"That was no ordinary disturbance." Ruves said "It felt like the entire Galaxy cried out."
"But why?" Anja said as the doors to the room hissed open and in stepped some clone troopers, the two Jedi could feel the intentions coming their way and readied themselves, as the clones opened fire Ruves moved forwards deflecting the blaster fire and shielding his young apprentice, it was all Anja could do to watch her back and she wasn't that skilled yet, when the fight was over they looked at each other.

"What was that about?" Anja asked
"Questions later." Ruves said "For now we have to get out of here, we have to get off the ship and find out what's going on."

Anja sighed, the rest of that memory was of crawling her way through the vents of the ship to the hangar and escaping with an ARC-71 starfighter, astromech droid by the name of C-9 in tow, with her master in a separate fighter they'd made their way to Dantooine first and had seen the holo images of Palpatine's speech to the Senate brandishing the Jedi traitors, that had really sent the message home the Jedi, the most recognisible people in the galaxy now had to disappear, go into hiding to survive and not only that but to preserve their teachings. They'd moved around from planet to planet trying to hide but then the game had changed - the Inquisitorius, the Empire's hunters had entered the equation, pursuing Jedi who had survived the purge they'd chased Anja and her master from system to system eventually they'd managed to kill Ruves but Anja had escaped that encounter and that had been how she'd come to Nar Shadaa but even here in Hutt Space she couldn't walk around as a Jedi, she'd needed to reinvent herself and that was what she'd done turning herself into a bounty hunter, getting into the good graces of the local Hutt, making credits, living not in an apartment on Coruscant or her dorm room at the Jedi Temple, not even her childhood home of Onderon but here among people who would likely sell her out in a heartbeat if they knew who she was.

It wasn't all bad though, she'd made a few friends out here, a group of war orphans young kids from different races all fleeing the Empire as the grip tightened, she spent time each day with the kids when she was on the planet and not chasing someone around. She narrowed her eyes slightly, something suddenly felt different. The Inquisitorius? No they wouldn't have come this far, then if not them what was it?

Eliot Argo tapped his first against the ground. He was sitting at a table by himself, a cup of some sweet, pale green drink clenched in one hand. His helmet lay next to his elbow, revealing his short brown hair, and awkward eyes.

Around him, aliens of all descriptions drank together, making him feel sick to be counted among their presence. He had been waiting for a friend to arrive, a short man of limited intelligence, who apparently had a job he could offer him. He had been waiting for him for almost two hours now, and he had to accept that he was unlikely to turn up.

He took a sip of the drink, the sickly strength going down his throat as he swallowed it. He leaned back in his chair, suddenly feeling exhausted as the sedative nature of the drink came through and the exhaustiveness of this long trip he had taken for nothing hit him like a truck.

He got up, slightly shaky, and made to head out the bar, looking for a place to stay the night. His hand accidentally caught the glass, sending it flying off the table. He swore as it broke, sending bits of glass everywhere.

Tien tensed slightly at the sudden sound of smashing glass -- whatever he'd said to Threebie, this place made him a little jumpy -- but relaxed again when he determined where the sound had come from.  Just the male Human.  Or, well, the one he thought was male; Tien had a hard time telling the difference with Humans.  Anyway, the Human Tien chose to think of as male looked drunk.  He (she? they? it?) swore, evidently at the broken cup.  Tien thought that was a bit unnecessary; the Cluster's service droids would clean it up without much trouble.  Eh.

Tien decided to look for the other Human he'd noticed, the one he'd decided was female, whom he had lost track of.  He'd last seen her (it? ...whatever) in the company of a Zabrak, who was now over by the bar, chatting with a Selonian -- an unusual sight this far from the Corellian Sector, but not the Human he was looking for.  But where...?  No, wait, there she was, still in the same spot, which was odd, since he'd been sure he'd looked there already.  He couldn't tell for certain from this distance, but it looked like she was sitting with a dejarik set in front of her, and a solid one at that.  Hmph.  Child's play.  Sabacc was a far better game.

Speaking of which, there was a sabacc room back behind the bar.  Tien hadn't had a good game in ages.  He glanced again at each of the two Humans he'd decided were... special.  Yes, the male was definitely at least a little inebriated; easy credits there.  The female, though... she looked like she might actually give him a run for his money; if not, well, easy credits there too.  With that happy thought, Tien polished off his ale and stood up, gesturing at Threebie to follow him.

In that moment, several things happened at once.

Very loudly.

Anja was still relaxing when what looked to be a human rushed into the Cluster, breathless, judging from the looks of him he was a traveler of some sort maybe a merchant, possibly even worse than that, as he entered the club the man tripped and something spherical rolled its way seemingly unnoticed to most to where Anja stood as soon as it rolled against her boot she sucked in a breath, this was something she hadn't felt in a few years. Next group of four stormtroopers led by a man dressed in black walked in. It wasn't unheard of for the Empire to operate in Hutt space but it was rare however the Inquisitorious insignia on the leaders uniform was enough for Anja to read what was going on, she used her foot to roll the sphere under the seat she was sat on.

"This is Inquisition business." the leader of the group said picking up the merchant's satchel and looking through it before turning back to the man who was now on his feet having been hauled up by two of the stormtroopers "Where is it?" there was no response from the man "Where is the heretical relic?"

Argo looked curiously at the man, as the Stormtroopers shook him. The man had a strange series of tattoos along his temple and forehead, spiralling along his brow. He didn’t recognise any of them, each one being clearly non-human. Despite this, the man was clearly human, a strange looking one, but a human nonetheless.

He had seen something fall out of the man’s satchel, it appeared to be a ball, perhaps a thermal detonator. That by itself wasn’t unusual, after all, many people carried them, but what was unusual was the reaction of the woman whose feet it had rolled next to; she had rolled it under her chair. Could this be the heretical relic the chap in dark was now angrily demanding? Was she an accomplice?

He pulled his rifle closer, wanting to have it on hand in case a fight broke out. He glanced at the woman again, getting a strange vibe from her. It wasn’t in his nature to sell out someone to the Empire, especially not a fellow human.

Tien's eyes followed the round object the newcomer dropped as it spun across the floor.  He wasn't sure what it was, but he was certainly intrigued.  He watched the female Human shift in her seat and hide the ball from view.  But his attention didn't stay there.

Those were Imperial stormtroopers.  Here.  On Nar Shaddaa.  Tien thanked Triakk, Merciful Warren Mother of all Sullust, that he was obviously not the reason for their appearance.  Another Human, evidently the stormtroopers' leader, grabbed the newcomer's bag and rifled through it, looking for something.  Tien couldn't hear what they were saying to each other because of the chatter of the cantina patrons around him, which was steadily becoming louder, but that sphere...

Could it be what the Imps were looking for?

Then Tien realized something else.  He knew that newcomer from somewhere.  The tattoos (well, at least he thought they were tattoos; Humans didn't have designs on their skin like that naturally... did they?) were familiar.  But where had they met?

If there was one thing Anja was relieved about it was that the inquisitor was nothing more than rank and file, he wasn't a force sensitive if he were she'd have been forced into revealing who and more importantly what she was, still the relic being termed heretical was enough for her to take an interest in it. If the Inquisitorius wanted it then the odds were that it was some sort of Jedi artifact. The bad news however was also that the Inquisitorius wanted it and were actively looking for it, if they decided to establish a presence then it was going to get really tricky for her to stay hidden for long, all it took was an inquisitor who knew the Jedi faces to turn up and she was blown. And then there was the amount of tension she could feel, the room was on edge, hands were drifting closer to weapons. Even though the inquisitor wasn't aware of her force sensitivity the last Anja wanted to do was draw any attention to herself because if the inquisitor was familiar with the fugitive Jedi then he might well recognise her. What she really wanted at that point was to get out of the room and take a look at the artifact. But she knew one thing somehow she could not allow the Inquisition to get this artifact.

Her eyes scanned the room as the inquisitor continued to make demands of the human that the stormtroopers were holding, there was a Sullustan who was looking a little edgy, well the whole situation was edgy but he looked like he was having an epiphany of some sort. There was another man sat also on edge, who gave off a strange read and then her eyes narrowed, almost as if in shock as she felt another presence, maybe the initial feeling when she'd first made contact with the artifact had momentarily blinded this presence from her but it was a strange one nonetheless.

However that didn't resolve the situation at hand, she needed to get out of this club and back to where she lived, she needed to think about her next move, needed to see the whole board as her old master had put it. Her eyes darted all over the place as she looked for something, someway to get out of there. Her eyes settled on the fire suppression system and after taking a breath she tapped into the Force for the first time in a long time and a moment later the suppression system activated in the absence of a fire, but it would hopefully be enough to clear the club, Anja thought.

He winced as the fire suppression system suddenly powered on. He swore, pulling his helmet onto his head to avoid it filling with water. He grabbed his rifle and joined the stream of people leaving the sodden building. The storm troopers seemed to ignore the water coming down, but the Inquisitor had begun to angrily shoot at them. Argo didn’t want to be around them for long.

He exited, and as he stood shaking water off his shoulders, someone barged past him. The person, uttering no apology was the same woman who had picked up the item on the floor. And now she was running off in a hurry.

He narrowed his eyes. That was suspicious as hell. And, as he had been taught, people who are suspicious are worth checking out. He made after her.

Nasty Yovvo had been living on Nar Shaddaa for a while now, he worked for the hutts as an weapon dealer and ocassionaly as an muscle, however this was more of an cover as he originally was sent to assasinate General Grivious by the Nightsisters (he is a Nightbrother himself), he now as going to one of the most popular bar to not only to chill a bit and have some alcohol but also to potentially find some clients for some of the new weapons he had. In this bar he was quite notorious, not only because the owners didnt like him there hanging around and trying to sell weapons but also because he was known to have quite the short temper, he had started a few brawls in the bar and was actually blacklisted in this bar, nonetheless he tried to enter, but the Bouncer had other plans, "Oh come on Nasty, you damn well know that you are not allowed here anymore, you always bring trouble in here, and with the stuff you sell you only draw more bad people in here." These few sentences already managed to make Nasty upset "Okayy listen up now you little Gomorrean dwarve, you better step aside now, or else ill literally choke you to death without even touching you" Nasty said as he had an intimidating look towards, Nasty was not actually sure whether his sensitivity to the force was powerful enough to choke someone but he did love bluffing. "Okay, okay eas, easy, gosh why do you Zabrak always want to make a scene", Nasty again became upset "What are you talking about?!?! Do you think we are all like Darth Maul or something" It was ironic that Nasty said this because in reality he somewhat admired Darth Maul, mainly skill wisely though. "Okay, okay, okay, i guess you are right, just go in but please dont start a brawl like always." and as these words left the mouth of the Gomorrean, Nasty immediately went into the bar. He where the bartender immediately recognized him "Oh god its you, please dont start a brawl this time", Nasty laughed "Haha, come on i dont start brawls that often just give me some alcohol, dont even care what" Nasty now started doing shots and while he wanted to take his 4th shot of alcohol, behind him a lot of noise was heard, and just as he was about to turn around some lost missed laser shot obliterated his shot of Alcohol, and now Nasty was really pissed off, he jumped out of his chair, grabbed the gun he had hidden under his chair and turned around "OKAY, I DONT CARE ABOUT ANY OF YOU BUT TOUCH MY ALCOHOL OR DISTORT MY REST AND YOU CAN BLOODY GET IT!!!" and just as he yelled that he saw even more people fighting and shots flying through the air and absolutely didnt know what to do.

Tien was bewildered.  He was also soaked, which was part of why he was bewildered.  One moment he was contemplating a sudden stormtrooper presence in his favorite Nar Shaddaa spaceport bar, the next he was wetter than he'd been for a long time.  Probably since that time he'd gone snorkeling on Manaan, come to think of it.  Anyway, between the stormtroopers and the fire suppression system, he decided it was probably time to go.  'Course, the rest of the cantina crowd was flooding for the door anyway, so it was easy to just go with the flow.  Threebie complained at him, but he ignored her.  He just wanted to get back to his ship and get out of the system, because if there were Imps at the Cluster, there were probably Imps all over the moon.

Now, if he could just remember which shady landing zone he'd parked at, that would be absolutely wonderful.

Anja got through the door and just kept running, she just had to hope that in the chaos the inquisitor hadn't noticed her she didn't want to imagine what it would bring down on the moon if she had been spotted and recognised for what she truly was. She ran all the way back to where she'd lived since arriving on Nar Shadaa, the place where she'd turned herself into a bounty hunter, it was a simple enough one room living quarters - a bed against one wall with a window, a desk for her to work at, storage capacity, and all the necessities to cook when she didn't want to go out. It was also right next to the storage hanger where she paid to keep her ARC-71 Starfighter and it was to the fighter that she headed first, climbing into the cockpit she switched the systems on and looked at the sensors and her eyes set themselves upon the full scope of the mess she was now in. Imperial stormtroopers and the inquisition on the moon was bad enough but they were here in such numbers that they had to have something serious in orbit and sure enough there it was an Imperial class Star Destroyer. Damn it the thought ran through her mind as she looked at the 'board' as her master would call it and she knew this wasn't a good position to be in, did she go to ground and hope that the inquisition didn't find her or did she take her chances and run the Imperial orbital presence in a ship that would be significantly outmatched?

Her eyes closed as she felt the sphere through her jacket pocket as option number three, possibility number three went through her head - had the choice been made for her? She knew what she had in her possession now, she'd seen enough Jedi holocrons to know what one looked like and she knew the echo they sent through the Force. She powered down the fighter, climbed out of the cockpit and walked up to the room she lived in, stepping inside she took the sphere from her pocket and placed it on her desk while she threw the jacket onto her bed. For a moment her mind contemplated the fight or flight prospects of the situation at hand? Did she really want to get involved with this? Did she want to put the target squarely on her back, to give up that which had kept her alive her cover? For a moment she considered doing nothing but she knew that the Inquisition wanted this sphere and they wouldn't rest until they had it, then she smiled as she remembered the words of a wise old Jedi "Trust in the Force" without further hesitation she picked up the sphere and after a moments concentration injected it with the flow of the Force to activate it.

Anja had to take a step back as the sphere practically jumped out of her hand spinning it radiated light all around her and then like a data display it started to show things, things that Anja didn't understand it was a language she'd never seen before, a language she couldn't read or understand, symbols, pictographs, it belonged to the ancient past by the look of it. "Oh Ruves." Anja whispered her masters name as she put her hands on the back of her head as she while not understanding the content sensed something of its magnitude. Her master having been one of the chronicler's of the Order might have been able to tell her what she was looking at but there was something that even in that semi comforting moment told her that Ruves himself would have struggled with this. Cupping her hands over her nose and mouth she sighed as she continued to absorb as much of what she could see as she could, hoping for some breakthrough that was not forthcoming, still she had a piece of something she just needed to find out what it was.

It was as the light faded that she sensed a presence nearby, grabbing her blaster from its holster strapped to her leg she whirled around towards the door and pointed it at the figure standing there, or was there more than one?

Argo had followed this suspicious woman for a while now, nearly loosing sight of her twice. He had been glad when she had finally stopped and went inside a building.

He sighed and leaned against a wall a bit off, contemplating what to do next. He usually thought ahead alot more than he had this time, and this lack of options was unusual for him.

Someone tapped him on the shoulder.

He turned around, hand instinctively moving to his rifle as he stared into the face of a Snivvian. He felt a stab of disgust as he stared into its alien eyes.

"What ya hanging round here for?" it asked?

He looked at it, before pausing. Maybe it could be of some use.

"Who lives there?" he asked, gesturing to the building.

It blinked, and looked at him strangely. "A girl, rents my hangar, nice lady, human. Why?"

Argo nodded, and began to walk towards the hangar.

The alien tutted, making some remark he didn't care to hear, and watched disapprovingly.

He pushed upon the door, slowly and silently. It was well oiled. Unless she was watching, she would have no idea he had entered.

He blinked as he as looked up and saw a blaster aimed at him.

Putting he hands up, slowly, he shrugged off his rifle, letting it fall to the floor.

"There isn't any need to get violent, I'm curious as to what that ball thing you picked up was."

He pondered for a second before deciding against asking how much it would be worth.

Anja kept her blaster up for a few moments, keeping it on the intruder, while she made sure that there wasn't anyone with him. She recognised the man from the Cluster, had he followed her from there? He was certainly observant if he'd seen her hide the holocron not that he knew what it was. However the culmination of the Empire's presence and the Holocron's presence was that Anja had very few options available to her now. She lowered the blaster slowly and holstered it as she heard the sound of children outside and her heart sank again, this moon was no place for war orphans but it was where they all ended up.

"This thing." Anja said picking up the holocron as she weighed up whether she could trust this man or not, she wouldn't be able to manage this alone so she had to trust someone didn't she? "Is something best kept out of the Empire's hands. Something that can't stay on this moon, I have to get it away from here. If you've got more questions you can ask them on the way to the spaceport." she stepped past Argo "And pick that rifle up before it goes off." she grinned as she headed off in search of someone who could help them off the moon.

Yep, Tien was definitely lost.  Where in blue blazes had he parked his ship?  He'd been ignoring Threebie's increasingly persistent complaints, but she finally deliberately bumped into him in an apparent attempt to get his attention.

"What is it now, Threebie?" Tien demanded, exasperated.

«Tien = lost // Ship = in other direction» she whistled, clearly annoyed with him.

Tien sighed.  So that was it.  He'd gone and got himself turned around in all the ruckus.  No wonder this line of hangars and warehouses didn't even kind of look familiar.  "All right, Threebie, which way was I supposed to go?"

«Tien = follow Threebie // Threebie + Tien = find ship in no time» Threebie whistled happily, and she set off back the way they had come.

Tien followed her at first, but soon called after her to stop.  That being over there, talking to the Snivvian... it looked like the (male?) Human he'd figured would likely be easy credits in the sabacc room.  Threebie wasn't thrilled with the interruption, but this was too interesting to miss.  A moment later, the Human and the Snivvian parted ways, and the Human went into a nearby building.  Ah, well.  Tien wasn't about to follow him (her? it? ...whatever).  He turned to let Threebie know it was time to keep moving.

He'd barely taken four steps, however, when a new sound caught his attention.

"...I have to get it away from here.  If you've got more questions you can ask them on the way to the spaceport.  And pick that rifle up before it goes off."

Tien couldn't believe it.  There was the other (female?) Human he'd picked out of the crowd back at the cantina, coming out of the very building the first had just entered.  So were they traveling together, or was it just coincidence that they'd ended up in the same spot?  No matter; Tien sensed a potential business opportunity.  He waved at Threebie to come with him and strode purposely toward the two Humans.

"Excuse me," he called to them in Basic, "But it sounds like you may be in need of a ship."

For half a second Anja was surprised, the Sullustan from the Cluster here? First the human and now him? She smiled the Force really did work in mysterious ways sometimes and it was all she could do to trust it and have the faith that this was happening for a reason. Just as she had trusted the man who'd followed her home she had to trust the person in front of her now. She knew it was no longer safe to be on Nar Shadaa, the Empire was hunting for something maybe it was the Holocron, maybe ultimately it was what the Holocron contained, after all just because Anja didn't know the language didn't mean the Inquisitorius lacked the means to decipher it, far from it.

"Initially I need passage for myself, this gentleman, a group of ten war orphans and the man from the club that the Empire were shaking down to Telos." Anja said "After that I may require your further services and I'll explain why once we're underway."

Argo relaxed as the gun stopped pointing at him.

"Something the empire shouldn't have eh?" he wondered, "Interesting."

He wondered if this woman was from one of the various resistant groups dotted around the galaxy. Depending on the size of it, she could be in a good position to pay him. Of course, he would start to ask for more details, as well how and when he would get paid, but her manner gave him the idea that time was short.

As he picked up his rifle from the floor and followed her outside, an alien, a Sullustan, walked up to them. It offered them a ship.

Argo wasn't the type to make deals with aliens, unless it was his only choice, but he didn't tell the alien where he could stick it before his new companion/boss/whatever-arrangement-would-be-made accepted.

He sighed walking off ahead a bit as the services required where laid out behind.

Together, the three of them, no four, as a droid followed the new alien, and they walked towards the spaceport.

A scream of fear stung through the air, and Argo turned, glancing around for the screamer.

OOC note: This post takes place before the group leaves for the spaceport.

Tien hesitated.  Ten orphans?  His ship was only rated for five passengers.  This was going to be one heck of a crowded journey.  And obviously, if the Empire stopped them, as the owner of the ship he'd be in big trouble.  Still, this seemed like a lucrative business opportunity, and he wasn't one to turn down credits.

"Well, it'll be a bit of a tight fit," he said out loud, "But sure, I can take you to Telos.  In fact, I'm in a good mood; I'll waive the charge for the orphans."

Threebie took this moment to whistle concern about the legality of stuffing thirteen sentients into a ship rated for seven, but he ignored her.

"We'll call it... three thousand, all told," he said, making quick calculations in his head, "You won't find a better bargain.  What do you say?"  He realized he was seriously low-balling for such a long trip with so many people, but how could he say no to orphans?

Anja wasn't really in the mood to haggle or argue the point, the truth was she needed a ride off Nar Shadaa before the Inquisition started increasing their presence on the surface. She wasn't about to leave those orphans behind either, if she did she suspected they'd fall prey to the swoop gangs before too long and though Telos wasn't exactly the safest place in the galaxy it was one of only a handful of places Anja could try and unravel the mystery of the Holocron without putting herself firmly into the cross hairs of the Empire, no she had a promise to keep a promise to one of the greatest Jedi she'd ever known a man by the name of Obi-Wan Kenobi, a man who in part she owed her life to it had been a message sent out by Kenobi that had stopped her and Ruves returning to Coruscant what had he said? "This is Master Obi Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic, have fallen with a dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi. Trust in The Force. Do not return to the Temple…that time has past. And our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged. Our trust. Our faith. Our friendships. But we must persevere. And in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always." Anja had taken those words to mean one thing - survive, hide, stay true to the path of the light and pass on what you had learned so that you were not the last of the Jedi.

Anja smiled and shook the Sullustan's hand "Three thousand it is." she said, she was about to figure out a time for their departure when the scream rang out. It was close and in the direction of the spaceport which put it either in or close to their path. Anja glanced around and smiled as she spotted Tann'freetaa, one of the orphans nearby, she was a blue skinned Twi'Lek with black rings on her tails Anja waved her over "Get the others and get packed, my stuff as well if you've got time, Salanbacca should be able to handle that, meet us at the spaceport as soon as you can we're getting out of here."

As Tann, as she liked to go by, headed off to round up the other orphans and do as Anja had asked the four of them made their way towards the spaceport and as they approached they saw what the fuss was about - the Empire was rounding up people for questioning by the look of it, including the man who had originally possessed the holocron and a Dathomiri Zabrak. But it wasn't that which stopped Anja in her tracks it was the presence of three people in black robes - Inquisitors and judging by the look of them force sensitives, a male human who was masked, a male Cathar and a female Miraluka, easily discernable from the red scarf worn atop her head and over her eyes. Mentally Anja was kicking herself she should have anticipated or sensed the presence of a Miraluka, the specie's ability to see through the Force made them the ideal trackers and hunters for the Inquisition whether it be fugitive Jedi or artifacts they were after. The added complication, as if three likely highly skilled, lightsaber wielding inquisitors and numerous stormtroopers weren't enough was that there was an Imperial shuttle sat there that the people were being marched towards, no doubt for further 'questioning' on the Star Destroyer in orbit, and if that happened Anja knew she could kiss any chance of getting information from the original owner goodbye. She calmed herself and tried to conceal her Force presence but she knew it was an ultimately futile effort, it wasn't a case of if that Miraluka pinpointed her presence but when.

Tien froze.  He wasn't really sure why, but those three in the robes... they gave him the creeps.  He glanced around, taking in the exact positions of each stormtrooper; if they were going to get past the Imps, it was important that they knew where the Imps were.  He determined what the most effective way to get around the Imps would be, calculated the odds of avoiding capture without being shot at, and then realized he had a problem.  That Imperial shuttle - one of those new-fangled Sentinel-class transports, by the look of it - was parked on the exact same landing pad as the Ace of Staves.  The pad had been designed with larger heavy freighters in mind, so there was still plenty of room, but that still meant the Imp shuttle was between this ragtag group and the freedom of interplanetary space.

This evaluation of the situation in front of him took Tien all of three seconds.  He unlatched the strap holding his blaster in its holster, took a deep breath, and turned to face his Human companions.  "You see the freighter behind the Imperial shuttle over there?" he asked without preamble, nodding in that general direction, "That's my ship.  I promise the lumps and bulges are intentional.  If we want to get off this rock, we need a way past these Imps.  Any ideas that won't get us killed?"

Anja really didn't like this, her back now against a nearby cargo container so as to hide herself from view, her eyes closed as she tried to think up a way of getting to the Sullust's ship, if it had been just the stormtroopers she'd be able to, with a little assistance from the Force, talk their way past them maybe even throw a little noise distraction given how weak minded stormtroopers tended to be. But the presence of those three inquisitors changed everything they wouldn't be so easily fooled and they could easily recognize her if she went out there, not to mention that Miraluka could easily become aware of Anja's presence simply by observing the Force's balance in the vicinity. Either way this was building to a confrontation or encounter of some sort. See the whole board the words of her master went through her mind again, ok what were the pieces? On the opposition side there were plenty of stormtroopers and three likely lightsaber wielding inquisitors - a masked human, a Cathar and a Miraluka each with their own skills and abilities and judging from the body language the human was the boss. What about her side of the board? Well there was herself a fugitive Jedi, a human who seemed to be no stranger to a scrap a mercenary perhaps? The Sullustan pilot and a droid. Also in play ten war orphans close to them and a whole lot of civilians being held by the imperials. Their way off planet was close but getting past this obstacle wouldn't be easy, if it came to a fight she would have to be the one to try and occupy the three inquisitors, though she severely doubted her ability to do so for a prolonged period of time in fact she'd give her two companions better odds in a shootout with all those stormtroopers than she would herself in a close quarters duel.

Her eyes now fell on the droid and something occurred to her. Anja took the spherical holocron from her jacket and handed it to Tien "This is what they want." she whispered "But it would be dangerous for them to have it. Can your droid copy the data on here?"

"I'll do you one better," Tien said, thinking fast.  He took the spherical... thing... and beckoned Threebie over.  "She may not look it at first sight, but Threebie here is a top-of-the-line military droid.  I've upgraded her to help her blend in a bit better," he continued, gesturing at her opaque, R2-series aftermarket dome, "And she's got a few tricks that those Imps will never see coming."  At this, Tien knelt down and popped open a small compartment in the side of Threebie's chassis and slipped the sphere inside.  "I didn't install this upgrade," he admitted as he carefully closed it again, "But I'm fairly sure it's not standard for an R3 unit.  The compartment's shielded, and it will appear like solid metal to any scanner ever built.  She's nondescript enough that I'm confident she can sneak past those Imps and get to my ship without a problem.  Come to think of it, she's fully capable of piloting the thing herself, so we might be able to have her meet us at another landing pad away from all these troopers and their... friends."  He cast another wary glance at the robed figures and shivered.

At that moment, Threebie, who had been watching Anja carefully, whistled something that caused Tien to start from surprise.  «Human female = familiar // Threebie + Human female = served together in Clone Wars»

"What?" Tien demanded, somewhat shocked, "What do you mean, the Clone Wars?"

«Tien = unsubtle // Tien + Threebie = can discuss later» Threebie whistled obstinately.

Tien glanced back and forth between his droid and this Human whom he had never seen before today.  The Clone Wars?  Well, she didn't look like any clone trooper he'd ever seen, and she didn't look old enough to have served in the Judicial Forces, so did that mean...?  "Pardon the personal question," Tien said quietly at last, "But my droid seems to know you.  You wouldn't happen to be, well, a fugitive Jedi, would you?"

Anja looked at Threebie for a moment, properly for the first time and her eyes widened in realization, how could she forget a droid like this? The droid was so familiar to her now, in the Clone Wars this droid in front of her had been her masters droid, the astromech that had flown with him and the droid she'd assumed had been destroyed that fateful day when the Inquisition had caught up with them. Hearing Tien's question she turned to the Sullustan and nodded her head. "I am but we'll talk about that once we get off this moon." she said sighing for a moment before thinking, the Miraluka would sense her presence sooner or later so why not take advantage of that? She took off her jacket and handed it to Tien "Leave the three in robes to me." she said "I'll keep them occupied, you two get the orphans to the ship and see if you can grab the man who had the artifact. I need to talk to him."

Tien nodded once and turned to Threebie.  "All right, Threebie, I know you heard me," he said, reverting to Sullustese, "Get to the ship, check the systems, prime the engines, and prepare it for takeoff at a moment's notice.  Don't get caught; act like you belong here at the starport if anyone asks funny questions.  Think you can do that?"

«Threebie = confident // Tien + Human female = stay safe» the little droid whistled.

Tien nodded again as she trundled off, and turned to Argo and the orphans, who had by now caught up with them.  "Even with all these stormtroopers wandering around here, this is still Nar Shaddaa," he began, switching back to Basic, "You lot stay hidden - melt into the crowd if you need to - and get to the freighter behind the Imp shuttle as soon as you have a safe opportunity.  Argo, I want you to keep these kids safe.  As for me," he continued, summoning as much daring as he could muster, "I'll bust that guy out of Imp custody before you can say 'space slug'."

Tien hung back as Anja made her move, waiting for the perfect moment to dart at the group of prisoners being assembled in front of the shuttle.  Whatever it was the Jedi was planning, he was sure it would be plenty distracting to the guarding stormtroopers.

Anja slowly walked towards the Imperial Shuttle once again reassessing the situation as she did so, there were a large number of stormtroopers on what could be reasonably described as a perimeter around the shuttle and the area immediately in front of it where the prisoners were located, the three in robes would be the main problem that she knew, but still she wasn't there to beat them she was there to occupy them long enough for Tien, Argo and Threebie to do their part in this. She almost smiled as her presence got the attention of two stormtroopers.

"Who are you and what do you want?" one of the stormtroopers asked

"I would like to talk with your boss." Anja said she was initially taking the diplomatic tactic hoping to buy a little time, she had one of her hands behind her back, then as the stormtroopers glanced at each other through their helmets she moved her fingers slightly, tapping into the force to create the sound of an echo nearby, a fair number of the stormtroopers looked around at presumably their ranking officer and then with a nod from him headed off to investigate what was essentially a misdirect, it did lower the number of the stormtroopers around the shuttle which had been her hope. She now had a clear shot between herself and the shuttle where the three robed figures were standing, she wasn't the type to draw attention to herself, it wasn't really the Jedi way but here she had no real choice she took a deep breath "Hello." she said in a raised voice "I hear you're looking for a Holocron."

The three robed figures all looked at her, well that was certainly getting their attention, now Anja would see just how well informed these three were she was a known fugitive Jedi so this was likely only going one way and sure enough each of the three inquisitors ignited a red lightsabre, Anja took hers off her belt and ignited her own lightsabre the cyan coloured blade extending out from the cylindrical silver handle she took a few breaths, three wasn't going to be easy but that said if she could get in close enough maybe she could hold her own, she tapped into her knowledge of the Force and used it to propel herself forwards intending to cross the distance in a single leap as she did so the stormtroopers that were still around opened fire but she deflected their blasts harmlessly away and began locking blades with the three robed figures, she probably wouldn't be able to hold her own for that long she could only hope that it was long enough.

Tien grimaced sympathetically.  A three-on-one lightsaber duel was not high on his list of things to do in order to not get caught, but he couldn't deny it was an effective distraction.  The stormtroopers in the spaceport - all of them, from the look of things, even a few who had gone bustling off in the opposite direction right before the fight broke out - were focused on the still-escalating battle.  With a bit of a jolt, Tien realized the three in robes must be inquisitors, which meant they needed to get off Nar Shaddaa pronto.  Fortunately, he could see an opening; with their attention firmly fixed on the Jedi they'd somehow flushed out of hiding, the stormtroopers who were supposed to be guarding the Human Tien needed to rescue were drifting away from their post.  Pfft.  Amateurs.

Tien edged around the clustering Imps to the prisoners.  The Human was unconscious.  The Zabrak... might as well have been, based on how drunk he looked.  Tien had spotted him in the cantina; the Imps must have swept him up in the raid.  The Human was badly hurt, with a black eye, a split lip, and several fresh bruises; Tien still couldn't place him- no, wait... he was wearing a small pin under his upturned collar which, if Tien remembered correctly, identified him to those in the know as a member of a particular cell of the Corellian Resistance.  Combine that with the tattoos, and...

"Gav Morvannon, as I live and breath," Tien muttered in Basic, despite the fact that the latter was unconscious and couldn't understand a word, "Let's get you to safety, shall we?"

The stormtroopers were still distracted, so Tien undid the prisoners' restraints and began dragging Gav toward the Ace of Staves.  Already, he could hear the characteristic whine of the repulsorlifts, which meant Threebie had reached the ship safely.  He couldn't see Argo or the orphans, and he hoped that meant they had made it safely there too.  Just as he reached the other side of the Imp shuttle and was starting to think he might make it all the way to the ship without being noticed, however, there was a sudden shout as the stormtroopers realized their prisoners had escaped.

Tien swore in Sullustese.  Heaving Gav out of sight behind the shuttle's lowered ramp, he drew his blaster and prepared to have company.

Nasty in all of a sudden woke up with a massive headache, he stank to alcohol as well and he felt completely broken as well, as if someone had completely beaten him up, as he slowly woke up, he was immediately in shock when he realized he was being held in a cell. And then he realized what had happened, "oh heck im such a blood idiot"  he mumbled to himself as he started to realize that he made a giant mistake "You naive moron why did you have to be so cocky again " and as he said that he was trying to remember what happened, then he saw flashes of memories coming past, he remembered threatening to choke someone without actually using his hands, which probably hinted people around him that he could use some of the force, then shortly after he got involved in a fight and while he was fighting he was knocked out from the back, he also remembers people whispering something about some inquisition stuff, so he was guessing thats why he was now being held. As Nasty tried to stand up and have his vision cleared and straightened up he in all of a sudden saw a friendly looking Sullustan, and he thought he probably wouldnt be his enemy, "Yo fella, can you please help me get out, i think i got tangled up in some imps nonsense" Nasty said in a drunken way you could barely understand.

Somehow, and she wasn't sure how, Anja was still alive, facing down three inquisitors who were more highly skilled than her was at first glance a suicide mission but as she continued to parry each swing that came her way, she was getting a sense of just what she was up against, the Cathar was brutal with a lightsaber but his force technique somewhat unrefined, the Miraluka had a fearsome strength with the force but didn't seem that advanced with a lightsaber to all intents and purposes those two seemed like they were still in training, sort of like her she was still despite not having a master a Padawan. The one that really worried her was the masked human, the way he fought was so hard to read, so hard to counter, in fact she couldn't counter it, it was almost as if he knew her next move before she made it, that sort of thing should have been impossible she span around, deflecting another swing, her gaze registering that the ship they planned to escape on was still there on the landing pad, she could only hope her new friends were ok because she had to put her full concentration on holding off these three inquisitors. She ducked under a swing from the Cathar and using the force pushed him back, sending him hard into a nearby cargo container, one down for the moment.

Moving to a more advantageous position Anja felt something in the force cry out to her, where from? Not the Cathar, not the human, not from the direction of the ship...the Miraluka. Was there something there? Something not yet corrupted? Something to be redeemed? She took a defensive position, she'd have to worry about that later because this really wasn't the time for such things. The human charged her, the swing came up from below Anja slipped it and went for the counter strike only for the human to grab her wrist, Anja retaliated by grabbing his lightsaber hand, as she did so she got sight of his feet and it hit her, he was fighting the same style as she was, that was why she couldn't step in and fight effectively against him, it was like fighting herself. Out of nothing but slight desperation she kicked him hard and managed to push him away as the Miraluka came in again now it was parry, thrust, block. Spinning away she pushed the Miraluka around a container buying herself enough time to assess the situation as it now stood, was Tien pinned down? She couldn't hear blaster fire but it was likely judging by the amount of movement that the stormtroopers had noticed they were missing prisoners.

Taking another defensive stance Anja focused her mind again, the fight was starting to take its toll on her, she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep going but she'd try her best until they could get out of there.

(OOC: FYI, Yolo, it's not a cell.  Nasty's been out in the open ready to be loaded into an Imperial transport, which was supposed to take him to a cell onboard the orbiting Star Destroyer.  Tien loosed his bonds in my last post.)

Tien couldn't see the ongoing lightsaber battle, nor could he see the remaining prisoners he'd freed before dragging Gav to safety, but he sure could hear the stormtroopers - and their blasters.  Tien realized he didn't have a lot of time, so he decided to improvise.  Gav was starting to come round, which made this idea of his a little less impossible...

Tien pulled out his comlink, thumbed it on, and called Threebie aboard the Ace of Staves.  "Threebie, are Argo and the orphans all aboard yet?" Tien asked.  An affirmative warble came from the comlink.  "Good," he continued, "This is what I want you to do.  Get in the air, cause a distraction, don't die.  I'll let you know what else to do as the situation changes."

Threebie gave him a confirmation, and Tien saw the Ace of Staves's ramp raise.  The freighter groaned momentarily as it lifted off the platform, and then it was airborne.  More shouting came from the stormtroopers, and blaster bolts started pinging harmlessly off the ship's hull.  Tien guessed they assumed he'd made it aboard, which was just what he'd wanted.  He peeked around the Imp shuttle's ramp.  Sure enough, the troopers weren't looking his way anymore.

"All right, Gav," he murmured as he helped the half-conscious Human to his feet, "Time to move.  And quietly, please."

Gav grunted, which Tien took as an affirmative, and together the two moved around the ramp and up into the Imp shuttle without attracting attention.  Tien heard the roar of the Ace of Staves's laser cannon and knew Threebie was starting to contribute to the fight outside.  He wondered if the little droid had the sense to target the inquisitors, but that wasn't terribly important.  Now in the belly of the transport, Tien deposited Gav in one of the seats that ordinarily held stormtroopers and other Imperial Army personnel and pulled his blaster back out of its holster.  He headed forward to the cockpit, hoping against hope that the crew had offloaded with the vessel's complement.  Unfortunately, there was still one pilot on board, but he was slow to react to Tien's arrival in the cockpit.  Tien shot the man, then gazed out the front viewport onto the fighting below.  Hoping they still had the element of surprise, he activated the repulsorlifts and raised the ponderous Imp transport off the landing pad and into the air.

The radio crackled to life almost at once.  "Transport Marilite, what are you doing?" an unfamiliar voice demanded, "Transport Marilite, land this instant.  That's an order.  Do you copy?"

Tien reached over and shut the comm off.  That might buy him a bit of time.  He parked the transport about four meters up off the ground - high enough that no stormtrooper could clamber aboard, but not so high that Anja shouldn't be able to jump up with her Jedi skills.  He looked around for the weapons controls - these things did have weapons, right? - and wished he had another pair of hands.  It ultimately took him about fifteen more seconds to find a retractable laser cannon he could control from the pilot's seat, which was precious time wasted.  He activated it, swiveled it to point to the nearest inquisitor who wasn't presently engaged with fighting Anja, and fired.

Anja was slowly, ever so slowly, losing ground, she'd known it was likely to happen this had started as a three against one duel and her defeat was inevitable, her role had been to keep the three inquisitors occupied long enough to get people onto the ship and as he continued to keep the masked human and Miraluka at bay her perseverance and endurance were rewarded by the sound of engines firing and then blaster fire, pushing the Miraluka away again she glanced over and saw the Ace of Staves in the air, looking around she assessed the situation again it was now practically chaos - some of the stormtroopers were firing futilely at the Ace of Staves others were running after escaping prisoners, that meant Tein had done his job, one prisoner the male Dathomiri was, now free, standing around probably trying to get his bearings is Anja recalled correctly he had been somewhat intoxicated back at the bar, the Cathar inquisitor was slowly getting to his feet from where she'd flung him earlier. She turned again sensing the human inquisitor the pair started to duel again, sparks flying up from the metal plating as the tips of their blades scraped the surface, Anja was starting to get a very familiar feeling from this opponent, he knew what she was going to do before she did it, he knew her fighting style, knew her lightsaber forms that was a list of things no inquisitor could reasonably know. Then there came another engine sound from behind her - the imperial transport was lifting off, that seemed to catch the inquisitor by surprise distracting him for long enough for Anja to kick him away.

Then came the cannon fire straight at the Cathar inquisitor, finding its mark and leaving the inquisitor lifeless on the landing pad, Anja glanced at the imperial transport the ship from which the blast had originated, Oh you clever Sullust she thought a split second before the Miraluka came hurtling down from on high using the force, Anja met the attack with a block and though she was able to redirect the Miraluka's swing and momentum the attack did have a devastating effect it cut through the cylindrical hilt of Anja's lightsaber, it was only the Jedi's reflex's and swift movement that meant the only impact of this was her lightsaber being cut in two and falling with two loud clangs to the metal plating. Anja didn't have time to dwell on that though as she found herself having to dodge more swings from the Miraluka until she was able to backflip away and get some distance, tapping into the force she pulled the fallen Cathar's lightsaber to her and ignited its red blade. It was definitely time to go, but would she have enough time?

The Miraluka leapt forward at her Anja wasn't about to take the same hit twice, she leapt out of the way and found herself backpedaling quickly as the masked human engaged her again, the Miraluka was suddenly thrown backwards as another cannon shot impacted the ground, taking the opportunity Anja used all her might to conjure a force push against the human and throw him backwards. She didn't bother to wait and see what the distance was, she was turning and running using the force first to collect the pieces of her shattered weapon and sent them clattering onto the imperial transport and then as she got closer she used the force to throw the Dathomiri aboard, she could sense the human inquisitor giving chase, she jumped covering the distance between the ground and the imperial transport landing on the vessels still lowered boarding ramp. She stood there looking down at the human inquisitor the red lightsaber from the Cathar still ignited in her hand. How did this man know how to counter her so perfectly?

"See the whole board." the familiar maxim, the familiar teaching went through her head as she pondered the question then came another familiar lesson "Your eyes can deceive you don't trust them.", looking at the human still standing on the landing pad Anja threw the lightsaber as straight and true as an arrow catching the join on the mask and sending it down to the ground.

Anja's eyes widened as her worst fears were realised, as the mask hit the ground she found herself staring into the eyes of her old master Ruves Aljand it was only for a few seconds but it felt like an eternity for just the two of them. Anja stepped back and hit the button that raised the ramp turning her attention towards the cockpit she raised her voice and spoke "Let's get out of here!"
