It had been several months since Natalya had been overseas and a chance to go visit East Moreland was an easy way to get back into the swing of international diplomacy. She had travelled relatively light for a Queen of Lodja going overseas. Just two Ladies in Waiting, Jasmina and Svetlana, her Special Envoy Besarian Ivanov, General Stanislav Pubilov and Queens Naval Yard director Kilian Ruzetnev. Natalya herself was rather clueless about weapons and military affairs but a few meetings with some of her key advisers and the guardsman around the Palace of the Goddess helped her gain at least a redumentary uderstanding of the matters they'd likely be talking about.

She was pleased to see David and waited for Jasmina to make the formal announcements that Lodjain protocol required, David no doubt would be used to such things and once done the group made their way inside to exchange embraces with Stasya.

Ghyslain Lyon stood from his seat and headed towards the front of the aircraft. There the Emperor Lucius had been on a video conference with his four year old son, Felix, and his mother Astrid. The boy had just been holding up a piece of paper to his father upon which on his own he'd successfully written his full name. Lucius smiled and applauded his youngest son and Glyslain waited for his half brother to finish the call. "Felix doing well?" He asked as Lucius turned to face him.

"Very well" Lucius beamed, "I think he'll end up being the most intelligent of the brood" He chuckled.

"I hope so" Ghyslain nodded, "We'll be landing in a few minutes."

"Thank you" The Emperor found his blazar, closed his laptop and joined Ghyslain who was not just his half brother but also his Imperial General, an equivalent of many nations Ministers of Defence. He had tried to get Lucius to also include his heir Henrik but after he failed to achieve everything his father had set for him in Lodja he wasn't trusting him with this. The two siblings would therefore be representing the Empire. After landing they waited for their transport to the venue and greeted the King. Lucius gave a firm handshake to the two Morelanders as he introduced himself. "I'm delighted to be here. I've heard of many technological marvels that have come out of this place so I look forward to seeing what we come up with." He moved on allowing the King to welcome the other guests. He moved between each of the other delegations and found himself a drink while they waited for the meeting to come to order.

"Honestly." Rion said as she aimed her own weapon, she was quicker on the draw than Rowe by virtue of already having been expecting him to pull a weapon so as soon as she'd seen him go for his she'd raised the pale blue pistol that was in her hand, it was the ARC-SP1, a salt gun or rather a pepper ball pistol to describe the ammunition. "It's whether or not Helus has a pet honeybadger." she squeezed the trigger twice in quick succession hitting Rowe centre mass, the man staggered as if expecting a bullet but then the spray took effect, the tell tale sign was when the hand came up and that was when Rion made her move closing the gap quickly she kicked Rowe's gun from his grasp and threw him to the floor. "Let me guess." she said "It's been a while since you did the training for such things." she put her knee on his back and cuffed him "Alex Rowe you're under arrest for conspiracy to commit criminal damage, conspiracy to commit an act of terror and conspiracy to murder." she looked up as Kayleigh opened the door "Wash out his eyes and lock him up."

"You got it." Kayleigh said taking Rowe out of the room.

Gemma sighed "It's not me who's going to have an issue with <0." she said walking over and putting her arms around Asuna from behind "That'll inevitably be Kayleigh and it'll last maybe thirty minutes because that's her job. And we will not discuss the amount of covering that gets done with the intelligence agencies in Rokkenjima about your satellite usage." she giggled "Now as for Thomas if you're patient and you let Kayleigh make the phone calls that will need to be made because of the situation we're in then we will absolutely have the United States ready to go after this is all over and done with. Meanwhile what are you wearing for the Youth Diet tomorrow night?"

"Excuse us for a moment." Serenity said looking at Andrew before taking Evanthe and leading her out of the room. This had just gone from bad to worst case scenario and beyond "Can we please try not to change the landscape of this before we get there? Right now we are dealing with a peaceful protest, there is no cause for alarm, there is nothing that would justify escalating this or presenting a front that is not united. He's not going to agree to the referendum, which I don't blame him for because rule number one of referenda is don't call one unless you know the result. Worse he's not minded to give the base back, which we know Sauzee's not going to budge on. This can only end with the removal of Seaforth's military presence. I don't like being in the position we're in, we've both got ties here and neither of us want an armed confrontation against each other." Serenity took a moment "How many times did Seaforth kick up a fuss about QAMB? Illumic self determination, removal of foreign military installations in the channel - is the Shaw deserving of any different? Why does Seaforth get to have a military presence in your backyard, when you don't get that in theirs? Is the Shaw any less secure than the Illumic? No it isn't, in fact it's historically safer. So before we get ourselves into a situation where our nations butt heads, where we create a chasm that you and Emerson can't fix and Euphy probably withholds sex..." she paused realising what she'd just said and who she'd said it to.

"Don't... Look before we get anywhere near that let's take a breath and remove emotion from the equation, we came here to explore the diplomatic avenues to resolving this situation in a manner that is peaceful. He's not swung at either pitch, the second of which is the best we could offer because his concessions are unreasonable, the return of the base and removal of Seaforth's military is non negotiable from the Marseilles side and Sauzee can't speak for all of Albion so tariff free access to the continent is a bit of a pipe dream, we're both experienced enough to know that. And we both know that Troyes is a Marseilles city and regardless of what Aosta and Abertone have done and said that fact remains true, as does the fact that Seaforth has overstayed in Troyes, we can stand here and go on about how much we don't like certain actions that have happened but from where I'm standing as the non Rhodes in the room they've not done anything that Seaforth hasn't done before. I may not like it, I do not like having to choose between the ASDN and Seaforth and I know you don't, but that choice isn't being forced on us by Marco and Serena, it's being forced on us by Andrew and his unwillingness to budge on the critical point here, remember if there was no occupation of Troyes would this even be a discussion? How many times have you and I and various governments across Mundus talked about self determination? About imperialism? How many times has Rokkenjima been accused of being imperialist? Granted most of them came from fallen regimes but what you've just said in there is aiding and abetting it."

Taking a breath Serenity pulled Evanthe into an embrace "Look I know it hurts being back here, all the memories of Joshua but, and I hope you'll forgive me, I need the Evanthe Anselmo who I watched study, who always did her homework at the first opportunity, the person I used to debate stuff with on the sofa years ago because I will not allow Achkaerin and Rokkenjima to get into a fight and I will not abandon Troyes and I most certainly will not tarnish the memory of Jocelyn of Rhodes. That is my word an Azurewind and you know the regard that is held in. So do we call Asuna and start preparing for a fight with each other neither of us want or do we call Sakura, Reid and start putting the pressure on. Let's do what we came here to do and let's do it together."

Empress Declares Her Intentions To Thomas

The Empress made clear of her intentions, no further commentary from our staff necessary..

"Let me begin with saying, the longest sentence I enjoy speaking is the name of my beloved, Thomas Waverly-Edwards, the Earl of Eastwood, hey you out there on your ship, I've been checking up on you logging hours on the mainframe at Imperial High Command, I can't help myself. You signed up for this when you agreed to date an Empress, so deal with it," she said with a grin. "As so often happens with accounts on the internet mine was hacked and, unfortunately, a message which caused not only myself and Thomas, but countless souls in Rokkenjima and Tytor, pain, was sent in my name but it was not in my name here. I love Thomas, I'm here waiting to train the engines of the [United States upon the position of his vessel at the very moment of his release from service because I miss his presence, I mean don't believe everything that's on the Internet people yes?  I love that boy and he loves me, and no matter his deployment I'll always wait for him so for all the haters and deniers, you lose."

Speaking to the RBC the Emrpess continued, "I sent my yacht in his direction, at over 40 knots, peeling paint from her bow, and I'll gladly pay the fees for that. I don't know what policy is aboard a Tytorian vessel, but when the Empress of Rokkenjima summons one, they typically answer, and I suspect my beloved will answer my call; I mean I'll be broadcasting it from miles away so, let his ship mates show some jealousy; Dear John letters are a known phrase, let us make "Dear Thomas" letters equally a phase that is well known, yes? Just," the Empress paused, "he is my hopes and desires, holding them in his eyes and I can't wait to surprise him, no doubt without your assembled help," she said as she shrugged.

"To all who believed my mother raised a girl that would break up over social media, f**k off, to those who believed it, likewise. I can't explain it but Thomas speaks to me on a spiritual level, and when we again meet it'll be like the first time, with all the same magic and spectacle I remember."

"I'm not able to speak for everyone" Lukas responded. "We'd be interested in the co-operation with this Cube idea however I'd want a reduced lease for as long as we allow you to attend our trade and industrial shows. If we're aiming at helping each other promote our businesses then for as long as we help you promote yours then you should help us promote ours?" He attempted to sweeten the deal. "Now as for co-operation over nuclear matters thats something we'd be extremely interested in. We ourselves have the wilderness to be able to set up test facilities, we have a decent supply of uranium but its customers we need. Now we can put you in touch with the various agencies, companies and institutes that we work with but the issue will be that by working with Rokkenjima you must have signed up to the MAEA? Meanwhile Altona will not sign up to the treaty as we do not wish foreign inspections of our prototypes and the like. Where are we going to sit in this regard?"

It was yet another event where Emperor Marco had turned up merely as window dressing. He'd got his cousin Graziano, his counsel, with him to do the heavy lifting. When Marco had announced his "Deputy Foreign Minister" Aurora Napoli was also joining them it became even more apparent that this was more just a "dirty weekend" for Marco. Graziano though was determined to ensure things went smoothly and figured Aurora would not be saying too much, something he could live with. Graziano was keen to speak with King David and headed over with his cousin in tow. "Good Morning your Majesty. I'm sure you know my cousin." He said allowing Marco to shake hands. Aurora meanwhile had gone inside and waited for them as she scanned the room trying her best to remember the names of various people.

"I realize this places Rokkenjima in a conundrum but," Evanthe sighed as she looked to Serenity, "Look, quite simply it was not Seaforth which placed Rokkenjima into this conundrum but certain parties to the ADSN which did. As such," she looked over to King Andrew, "the best developed air bases and facilities in the region you're speaking of exist on Hoshiko Island; it's home to Imperial High Command and the Imperial Rokkenjiman Home Fleet. We also have an air base upon Fukadomari, though as that one is rather close to Abertone I think we can both agree to exclude it from your operations. Meanwhile, facilities based on Hoshiko Island open to service members of the Imperial Rokkenjiman Armed Forces will be available for any Seaforthian service members and vessels in transit which may require resupply, either to or from Troyes, as your needs should determine. I know that we'll be taking some heat from the ADSN on this but we weren't the ones who asked for it, it was not the Seaforthians who forced it into an issue to be considered, and as Abertone and Altona acted unilaterally on this matter proclaiming ties which go beyond the ADSN, Rokkenjima will be using its right to such ties to support our security partner and ally which, in this case, is the Kingdom of Seaforth."

"When Rokkenjima signed the Joint Statement on Troyes it was a different time," she continued, "we in Pyrettania assumed a joint path forward. That path forward has been hijacked by the two Empires, and while Rokkenjima supports Troyes reintegration into Marseilles, it won't be at the expense of our values or our word to those who trust us," she motioned to King Andrew. "Actions have consequences, and while we have our duties to our ADSN partners so too do we have our responsibilities to our long-standing allies who, I would again remind Empress Serenity, did not place us in a position of choosing which of those to honour. You have the full cooperation of the Imperial Rokkenjiman Government and Imperial Armed Forces," she said again as she turned to King Andrew.

Rokkenjiman Empress Announces Breakup on Instagram

TSARGRAD - Fans of the budding romance between Rokkenjima's Empress Asuna and Tytor's Thomas Waverly-Edwards, the Earl of Eastwood, had their hopes dashed this weekend by a post the Empress made on Instagram on Friday.  In the post, which went live just after 6 PM in Tytor, the Empress announced, "I am single."  She continued, "I just realized maybe no, I'm not ready to tie myself down.  I'm only just an adult, let me make some mistakes."

This announcement comes as some surprise to watchers of the royal family, as the Empress and the Earl of Eastwood had been seen together less than a week ago, shortly before the earl departed Rokkenjima aboard HTMS Agility, the frigate on which he has been stationed as a midshipman, with no indication given of strain in their relationship.  Due to his deployment, the Earl of Eastwood could not be reached for comment, and the Admiralty declined to comment on what it called "the love life of a regular commissioned officer".  The office of the Prime Minister similarly declined to comment.

Reached for comment, the Rokkenjiman embassy in Tsargrad gave TBS a statement which it authorized for full publication: "It is not the policy of Her Imperial Majesty's Diplomatic Service to comment on the personal life of the Empress, nor on statements shared via social media. As per the operating policies and guidelines of HIMDS only those statements which are shared via Chrysanthemum Throne itself are regarded as legitimate for the purposes of this office. As Chrysanthemum Throne has not made a statement on this matter one way or the other it would thus be inappropriate to comment on the matter further. Once such a statement has been made we will consult with Chrysanthemum Throne.

"In official talks with the Imperial Palace the Embassy has been instructed to relay the continued importance of the Rokkenjiman-Tytorian special relationship despite what it views as a temporary passage through disturbed waters."

With the relationship between the Empress of Rokkenjima and the Earl of Eastwood now in the past, TBS asked Tsargrad Times pollster and foreign policy analyst Mark Ashland for comment.  "This smacks of damage control," Ashland says, when asked about the Rokkenjiman embassy's statement, "Obviously the diplomats can't comment publicly as long as the Imperial Palace is silent, but even a blind man could see how damaging this will be to popular perceptions of Rokkenjima here in Tytor.

"As of the most recent polls, published last month," he continues, "Empress Asuna had a favorability rating nearing eighty percent, with much of that resting on the popularity of her romance with the unfortunate Earl of Eastwood.  With the relationship terminated so abruptly, I can't imagine her popularity in Tytor ever reaching those heights again."

While the long-term impact of the breakup remains to be seen, there have been reports that Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher summoned the Rokkenjiman ambassador to her office on Saturday morning.  These reports, which TBS has not independently verified, suggest that the news caught the Prime Minister by surprise, and that the summoning was intended as a way for her to express her displeasure at being left out of the loop, as it were.

Ashland suggests that these reports make it clear that the special relationship between Tytor and Rokkenjima is in danger of imminent collapse.  "Here we have a personal relationship that symbolizes the international one between the two major cross-straits powers," he says, "And the Empress throws it away without any warning to the Tytorian government.  That doesn't make it look like Rokkenjima sees Tytor as its equal on the global stage, and that bodes ill for the long-term viability of our bilateral relations."

"It would be appreciated," she would reply simply, listening as Thatcher continued.

"Speaking off the record, I don't like that you were excluded from the first party chain of communications on this issue, as a CSTO ally and a trusted security partner of the First Empire I would have seen close coordination with the Kingdom and its assets from day one," she said as she passed to Thatcher secured means through which to engage with <0. "Perhaps the most skilled operatives within Rokkenjiman borders, she has access and insight that will bring you up to parity knowledge-wise, and I'll be lodging in my notes to Pyrettania that any future exclusions would be ill-advised and most harmful to Rokkenjiman national security. Damn it," she paused, "we've sat here near the brink of an abrupt rift between our governments, I won't allow that to happen again under my watch. From this moment forward you'll know what we know as the Royal Government has the trust of the Imperial Government to act responsibly with said knowledge, as it should have been from day one so to say. As to your question, on the record, that's a matter of internal affairs which are better left for Rokkenjima to tackle. Off the record, I was not instructed to ask for your help, and was informed that the matter was being dealt with and no further involvement was necessary from those not already involved."

"That being said," she paused again, "I'm sorry that Thomas has had what must have been a few difficult hours, please see that his mind is put to rest as soon as possible. We might not be able to address the public sensitivities of the matter yet, however, it would be nice to see both of them able to sigh a breath of relief in the mean time. I understand that, as soon as she's capable of doing so, she intends to put the United States to the test, with the permission of your Government of course, for a reunion with Thomas; I hear the Empress wishes to test her rumoured top speed of 45 knots to make this all up to him. She's like her mother in that regard," she smiled for the first time, "always a penchant for grand gestures; I imagine his ship mates will have some jealousy issues to deal with after such a display."
