Factbooks and Maps / Factbook of the Tetlahtōlcah Nahua

Tetlahtōlcah Nahua
 (Confederation of the Nahua/Nahuatl Confederation)

Basic Facts:
Political System: Constitutional Monarchy with federal structure0
Head of State: Huey Tlatoani (Emperor, lit. Great Ruler/Speaker) Huitztlincuīcatl
Head of Government: Cihuacoatl (Prime Minister, lit. Snake Woman) Mizquixochitl
Legislative Bodies: Tlahtoancalli (Parliament, lit. Speaking Place).
Population: ~128.7 Million
State Religion: Teotl Faith
Capital City: Tenochtitlan
Demonym: Nahuatl

Brief Recent History:
The Confederation was formed from a union of many Nahuatl city-states under the Mexican State in 1871, when they defeated their main rival Tlaxcala in a war for dominance of the region. Since then the Confederation began the slow march to modernisation, though it remains semi-feudal, with large amounts of the country held by large agricultural landowners, whilst industry and mechanisation is mostly limited to the urban and mining areas. They did not contribute in the Great War, and have stayed mostly insular and focused on internal development. In addition, some of the south of the country is under the unofficial control of the Nahuatl Land and Freedom Army, a communist group who have followed a path of protracted people's war against the state set by their late ideaological father and once chairman, Yolcēhuanehecatl.

IMPORTANT NOTE
The current factbook is barebones, and mainly exists due to me wishing to put my thoughts down until I have more time to add to it.

The Confederal Republic of Michaelia

Presidential Seal

Head of State & Government: President Henry Baker
Legislative Body: National Confederal Assembly & National Congress
Government Type: Presidential Confederation
Motto: "To be kept right or set right"
National Anthem: The Archangel's Justice/ The Legend of Saint Michael
Capital City: Free City of Capital
Population: 100.73 million (83 million: Core Michaelia; 17 million: Occupied Moravian States)
GDP per Capita: 43,600 USD

Government Structure:
The 35 States
Michaelia is divided into 35 states. Each state has its own governments that are responsible for managing and administrating the state, as long as they do not counteract national law or the constitution. Each state‘s government can organise itself as it pleases, and appoints two Assembly Members (AMs) to the National Confederal Assembly. Each state can levy taxes on its populace as it pleases, provided that the state can provide the required quota of taxes for the Confederal Government and balance its own budget.

The National Confederal Assembly
The National Confederal Assembly (NCA) is made up of 70 AMs, who are appointed by the 35 states. The NCA is the Upper House of the Confederal Government. The NCA can create bills, and if a majority of AMs vote in support of the bill, it will be sent to the National Congress (NC) where if passed it will become law. The same is true vice versa for the NC. However, the NC can bypass the NCA if it blocks a bill three times.

The National Congress
The National Congress is made up of 160 Congressmen, who are appointed by parties every national election (held every 6 years) who in turn receive a set amount of seats to fill depending on their electoral share. The electorate is made up of every able adult citizen (18+). The NC is the Lower House of the Confederal Government.

The President & Cabinet
The President is appointed by the NC every national election. They have veto power over any bill that makes its way through both the NCA and NC. They are head of state and government as well as commander in chief, and are responsible for the execution and enforcement of the laws of the state. They appoint a cabinet who leads departments in the day-to-day running of the country. The President must have held a government office for at least 15 years prior to their appointment (these 15 years need to be in total, not continuous), but may not hold any other government office whilst President.

The High Court
The High Court is made up of 12 High Judges, who hold the position for life or retirement with the current President appointing a new Judge if a vacancy is created. They are the final court of appeal for all civil and criminal cases in Michaelia, and are also tasked with making sure legislation passed by the Confederal Government conforms with the National Constitution. They have the power to overturn legislation which violates the Constitution, however this in turn can be overturned by a super majority vote in the NC with the consent of the President (the same requirement for changing the Constitution. In the event this happens, the NC will be tasked with amending the Constitution so that it and the new legislation do not conflict, with any changes requiring a supermajority from the NC. If a change is not confirmed within a month, the troublesome legislation is permanently struck down.

Ceremonial Monarchs
Whilst Michaelia is a republic, the state does recognise the existence of several ceremonial monarchs within its borders, who have a traditional claim to a domain within the borders of the Republic. These monarchs are subservient to the Republic rather than above it. They receive a small grant split between the Confederal Government and any state governments they own land in and in return the state controls any political activism and control (though not ownership) over any royal property deemed to be culturally significant to the Michaelian people.

Segregation
Michaelia is divided by a system of informal segregation, on both state level and Confederal level. Examples include the limiting of movement between states based off of citizenship, the limit of suffrage to those who can pass a civics test, exclusionary zoning laws, formalised state-level segregation in workplaces, etc. The system has only intensified after the invasion and conquest of Olympia, Oregon and Portland, with the occupied Moravians lacking basic rights and living under martial law, with their status as part of the Confederal Republic still hanging in limbo.

Diplomacy and Events / K-K Talks (Kaitaine & Kishon)
« on: June 27, 2023, 07:28:13 PM »
Minister of Foreign Policy, Joshua Barasha, stood with an honour guard outside the Presidential Palace. The lawn at the centre of the Palace's driveway hosted three flag poles, and though these would often display the blue, white, and black Presidential Standard; the 3-pointed star T'chiyah Party's Flag; and the blue menorah National Flag, today it flew the Theocracy's orange and black flag alongside the National Flag, divided by the red flag of brotherhood.

Barasha himself was, however, nervous. Attal had decided that he would not come to greet the foreign dignitaries, they would come to him. It was, he understood, supposed to be a power move, asserting the greatness of Kishon over that of its neighbour. Barasha would never tell Attal this, lest he finds himself arrested in his bed, but it just seemed petty. And most of all, it just seemed like Attal was dumping the responsibility of first impressions on Barasha, whilst simultaneously damaging them by refusing to leave his office to talk to them.

As the Bene Gesserit's car pulled into the Palace's driveway, lead and flanked by two KFP cars, the honour guard snapped a salute and the Palace Footmen rushed to open the doors of the esteemed dignitaries' car. Barasha tried to paste his best and friendliest smile on his face as he strode towards the car, giving them enough room and time to exit the car comfortably and get their bearings, but not enough room or time to make them feel abandoned.

He held his hand out, "Welcome to the Inland Empire. I trust you have had a good trip."

Vignettes / Dance, Dance, Revolution!
« on: June 17, 2023, 11:49:32 PM »

"THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!"
The sentiment was shared by the Parliament. Shouts of anger rained down from the seats of over half of the Parliament, insults were exchanged like machine gun fire, and calls for the head of Attal on a platter become greater.
Xavier Frenkel, leader of Progress!, supposedly had the floor, but it was clear very little speaking would be done today. The Prime Minister, the treacherous bastard, was supposed to maintain calm, but his attempts to order the Parliament into silence were backfiring profoundly. If Parliament had its way, the PM's head would join Attal's on its platter.
Frenkel tried to make himself heard above the ruckus of the Parliament, but it was clear such an attempt would be impossible. He shook his head at his deputy, sitting at the head of Progress! and then marched out. Progress! MPs trickled out after him, with some staying.

When the announcement had come that afternoon that Attal would not be using Parliament to legally extend his emergency powers, Frenkel had felt the anger swell as though the air pressure within the Parliament building had doubled. The announcement did explain why members of the armed forces had suddenly appeared around the Parliament building last evening, the anger had clearly been anticipated, and procedures put in place. As he marched out of Parliament, he saw a crowd begin to form. Clearly, the news had trickled out, so soon after it had been announced. Already he could see reporters filming and he marched towards one of them.

In the mountains in Kishon's furthest north, Dan Ali, a KLA freedom fighter, spat out his mouthful of water as he saw the headline of the latest edition of the Weekday Sun. The paper, whilst trash he wouldn't wipe his arse with and the man they were quoting almost a fascist, conveyed an important bit of news that the man, despite his seniority in his branch of the KLA, had yet to hear. He had been surprised at the news, but the spit was more for dramatic effect, something he liked to indulge in from time to time.

He handed it to his second, Benjamin, he glanced at it before double-taking. His eyes met with Ali's, and both men almost as one got up. Ali nodded at the woman who had "volunteered" to let them have access to her kitchen, larder, and cupboards before marching towards the one place in the small mountain village they knew had a television, the bar. Ali stepped over a drunk soldier and barked at the bartender to change the channel, before kicking off a bar stool a soldier who was nursing a drink and sobbing over a lost sweetheart.

President Attal leaned back in his chair, and put his boots up on the presidential desk.
"Ibrahim," he said, "talk to me. How did the fuckers in Parliament react? I suppose it is too much to hope they give in? Did they manage to arrest anyone for assault?"
He rattled on for another minute, cutting off his poor aide with every opportunity. He had won, and he knew it. With the backing of the army and the frankly unlimited powers he was entitled to under an emergency, it was merely a formality of what those liberals, communists, and other assorted idiots thought of him. His aide, he hoped, realised this. But poor Ibrahim, so slow on the uptake! All he needed to do was tell Attal that Parliament had submitted. The actual answer didn't matter.

He picked up a grapefruit and admired it: its simple structure and deep colour! It represented politics, Attal mused. It was difficult to enter, but once you penetrated it was just a sweet reward. He ignored his aide's ramblings and allowed his mind to wander. Ibrahim had to go, he realised. The man, whilst a good statistician, was far too bad at reading the room to ever be a good aide, or technically PA. Sometimes men already knew the answer, and so needed simple reassurance. Ibrahim, the poor lad, failed to provide this. He simply had to go.

He congratulated himself once again on thinking to announce this on a Friday. The Shabbat was almost upon them, meaning the protests would have to be put off for a whole day. And it would take at least 24 hours to organise a protest, meaning the earliest they'd be able to start would be a Monday, when their numbers would be capped due to it being the start of the working week. He poured himself another glass of brandy and tossed the grapefruit over his shoulder, his eye instead catching on an apple.

Factbooks and Maps / The Amonite Empire of Kishon

The Amonite Empire of Kishon

Head of State: Emperor Levi ben-Amon
Head of Government: President Aharon Attal
Legislative Body: Amonite Parliament
State Religion: Karaite Judaism
Capital City: Allir

Historical Background
In the year 586 BC, a group of Jewish soldiers, led by their general Amon, agreed to accompany a caravan of refugees from Vanora. After a dispute whose details have been lost to history, the band and caravan split ways, and the followers of Amon crossed the desert of Waddan and found lush valleys. The band settled in one such valley, naming it and the river that flowed through it after one of the rivers in their homeland, Kishon. Over the centuries, the band expanded their reach, subjugating local tribe after the local tribe, militarizing their tribe to such an extent that without their subjugated tribes to plunder resources from they would collapse.
They promptly collapsed when the subjugated tribes rebelled, and the Amonites were forced to reconcile with them. The Amonites adopted many tenants of the local's culture into their own, and high-ranking members of the Amonites inter-married into local nobility. Over the centuries and millennia, the Amonites adopted many elements of local tribal culture, so much so that their modern culture can be considered a hybrid. Their faith also diverged, with recognition of the written Tanakh alone as the supreme authority in religious law and theology, with the role of rabbis being not to reassess and adapt the rules of the covenant, but to interpret their literal meaning. Despite this, the people martial tradition remained unchanged, with most men expected to serve in the military.

It has come to my notice, that according to general Mundus history, the first successful state is established in the early 1700s, suggesting that socialism exists in the 17th century.
Assuming that the industrial revolution took place at the same time period as it did irl, socialism, an ideology that emerged as a result of factory-wage labour, appears before the causes that caused it to emerge irl.
If we want to make other comparisons, the first successful liberal state (a decidedly less radical ideology) only emerged in the mid 1700s.
Put simply, the timescale for socialism as an ideology makes very little sense and has complicated implications.
My suggestion is thus that the birth of socialism is pushed back to the 1820s, with the first socialist state emerging no time before the 1840s.
These numbers are below what I'd like, but I wish to avoid complicating any historical revisions that will undoubtedly need to take place.

Vignettes / Who dunnit attempt
« on: July 19, 2022, 10:10:37 PM »

Greetings and salutations.

I, Geo the first and last, am currently planning to attempt a whodunnit rp, in which characters will attempt to find out who killed the murder victim. If you are interested, and have an idea of what character you want to rp, please PM me either on the forum or on discord, so that we can discuss how you will slot into the mystery.

There is a very real chance that this will take quite a while to plan, so if you forget about it, I may suddenly remind you at some point in time.

Diplomacy and Events / One Hand Washes The Other (Nis and Chistopol)
« on: June 23, 2022, 11:18:07 PM »
To King Kārlis IV of Chistopol,

It has come to my attention that our nations, that of Nis and Chistopol, have, despite being geopolitical neighbours, had had only limited interactions in recent times. I wish to correct this issue. There is much our two nations have to discuss, from regional concerns to global concerns, with everything from Rodina to SUN. As such, I wish to cordially invite you to the White Palace in Nis, so that ties between us may be created. You can never have too many friends.

I will be delighted to receive you, and we are sure that your stay in Nis will be just as comfortable as your home in Chitopol.
Your Sincerely,
His Most Blessed Majesty Stefan Basil the Fourth, by the Grace of God, King of Niš, King of the Nišavians, the Blitkens, the Aleksijanci, the Tračani, the Iliri, the Visines and the Basnions, Guardian of the Church, Protector of His People.

14
Dear, King Jozef of Lechia

I am delighted to formally invite you to the White Palace of Nis to discuss the diplomatic brotherhood between our two nations. Our nations share a proud history together, from my father to his father, and now hopefully that history of cooperation and brotherhood between us will be carried on by me. We have many things that we can offer each other, and working together will benefit both of us.

I will be delighted to receive you, and we are sure your stay in Nis will be as comfortable as it is back home.

An open letter to all cheese makers and enthusiasts on Mundus from the HPDG of the Basnio region of Niš.

Dear all,

As many cheese makers and fans will know, the Mundus International Cheese Festival is held every six years since its inception in 1830, making it the 32nd Festival of its type. This year, the Board of the Festival has chosen the Basnio region of Niš to host this festival.

The Festival will be, like it's past iterations, a chance for cheese makers and enthusiasts all over the globe to bring their own cheeses to showcase, and to sample cheeses you may not have tried. It aims to also allow newcomers to the cheese world to get a better grasp of it, with giving everything from taste testing to tips and tricks from veteran cheese makers on how the amateur cheese maker can perfect their cheese. It gives professional cheese makers a chance to reach a wider audience with their cheeses as well, whilst also allowing consumers to scout the market for new delicacies.

This year's Festival will also have a special showcase of local cheeses from the Basnio region, featuring an exhibit put together by local Basnion cheese makers on the history of cheese in Basnio.

The Festival will also be featured on many TV networks for those unable to make the trip to Niš themselves, and cheese vloggers and other online video recorders will also be invited.

We welcome Festival goers and those who will watch on TV or online, and ask that you enjoy yourselves.

Faithfully yours,
Muhammad Adem Kopanja
Head of Produce and Dairy Goods, Basnio Region, Niš.

OOC:
Feel free for anyone to take part with this rp, for anyone from a cheese maker at the festival showcasing your nation's cheeses, a cheese company trying to peddle their wares, a reporter or vlogger reporting for the festival or even just a festival goer. No characters from Niš of a higher government position than a local official will feature, so don't feel anyone has to be a big cheese from your nation. This rp is also an excuse for me to flesh out Basnio a bit more, so feel free to prod that with a stick if you want to.

The rp is open to anyone, and hopefully anyone who does take part will enjoy it  :)  Cheese is near universally enjoyed by the peoples of the world, and the amount of real life cheese on offer is brie-lliant, and don't take my curd for it, look at this Wikipedia article. I can assure you, cheese is gouda fun. Sorry if all these cheese puns were kind of cheesy  ;)  .

OOC Socialisation / Calling on all UK residents

Calling all people living in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island

Recently, the fiendish corporation known as Greggs has poked its nose into Cornwall once again.

This is yet another attempt after it was chased out last time.

Map clearly shows where Greggs is not welcomed (Please not that the Greggs for Devon and the Isle of Wight is wildly inaccurate. I've sadly been to Devon several times, and I have seen several Greggs. I have it on good authority as well that the Isle of Wight has at least one. And since that map was made, that one Greggs in Cornwall has been removed.)

The people of Cornwall do not want a Greggs.

The first Greggs in Cornwall was opened in 2018
The move was met with indignation by the people of Cornwall, and the evil corporation was expelled two years ago.

However, only a bit later, they attempted to attack again.
The Greggs was only a small one, in service station, and since then it got "temporarily" closed down. But we all know who won here.

Now, it appears Greggs is once again attempting to invade Cornwall. Although hopes had risen that they'd pull out, these haven't come around.

So I ask you, People of the UK in TIO.

Boycott Greggs, write to your local MPs and complain.

Cornwall doesn't need a Greggs. Keep Greggs out of Cornwall.

Vignettes / Four monks and a dead body walk into a bar...
« on: March 14, 2022, 10:28:09 PM »
Waves crashed against the rocks as the storm roared on. The din of thunder and the howling of the wind sounded, to Brother Kanemoto's trained ears, as though the heavens were having a competition to see which could be the loudest, like twins fresh out the womb. They hadn't had such a big storm in ages, it had seemingly bounced off the coast of Jericho, hurtled through the Alola islands and then slapped the Central Monastery with everything it had.

His white robes clung to his body as the lashing rain drenched them, and he frowned in discontent. He was meant to undergo jala vakuṭu vima (trans. "Water Crouching") this afternoon, a full two days of meditating just off the island, perched on a wooden post pressed deep into the seabed below. His only nourishment would be a pouch of water that he could drink at sunrise and sunset. Usually, when done in early Autumn like it was supposed to be, the experience would be enlightening, the gentle lap of the waves and the cries of the gulls providing a backdrop for him to peer into himself. The main challenge was not falling unconscious due to lack of food, dehydration or sleep deprivation. If he drifted off, he'd fine himself sinking into the sea. Fortunately for the practise, the amount of actual casualties was low. Compared to the practise of maṭa udav karanna mama kampa venava (trans. "Sky Leap"), where participants jump off a cliff with only a rope they made themselves from grasses to stop them smashing open like a pumpkin, the amount that perished was basically nothing. Less than 30%. Maybe a bit over it on a bad year.

It was probably why so few people attempted it if they had the choice, he mused to himself. He had had high hopes that the experience would help open his mind, and enable him to be greater in tune with the world around him. Those hopes had been quite quickly dashed.

Kanemoto sighed. He was probably going to die.

Vignettes / A very merry Christmas
« on: December 25, 2021, 10:18:52 PM »
Main Dining Room, the White Palace, Kingdom of Niš, 7th January 2022

King Basil stood at the head of the table. Both sides of the table were filled with chatting, smiling faces. All 24 barons sat at the same table, for once united in Christmas Cheer, the disagreements that were often seen between them forgotten for the day. Basil's immediate family sat near him, his Queen-Mother Renja, his brother Dušan and his two younger sisters (Jana and Petra) laughing merrily amongst themselves. The various wives of the barons chattered to each other next to their husbands. Everyone had a glass of rakija, most of which were half empty, save the Serbian Patriarch, Porfirije, who sat at one end of the table with his two young attendants, who had only a large glass of water to wet his lips.
Small children played in a window alcove, their little table (cutlery and plates set out ready for them) covered in the various toys and puzzles they had been gifted by their powerful parents. From the hall, the guests could smell the rich scents of the palace's cooking staff preparing the upcoming christmas dinner, eagerly awaited by all at the table.

Basil clapped his hands three times and the sounds of merriment gradually faded away as people turned their attention to the young king.

"Здравица!" he said and the table responded with similar cries.
"За народ Ниша!" he proclaimed and the table raised their glasses and echoed his call.
"У цркву!", "У краљевство!", "За Бога!", "За наше пријатеље и породицу!". Each time the table raised their glasses and repeated after the King.

Basil cleared his throat and gave one final statement: "Са тим, пријатељи, хајде да вечерамо! Срећан Божић!"
Cheers went up at that and Basil sat down as servants carried in steaming dishes of Christmas dinner. In the corner of the room, a piano and violin opened up and began to play. Basil sat back down, and smiled to himself.
His first christmas as a powered king, and hopefully the first of many.
As he tucked into his meal, with the sounds of merriment and agreement from those around him, he wished the whole of Mundus a very merry christmas.

Merry Christmas TIO!

Falcons, grey birds

our hearts are set on fighting.

When your chests and hearts are bleeding,
do you feel sorry for your mothers?
Our mothers' blessings are always with us,
we will gladly give our lives.

Do you feel sorry for our native land,
for our enemies are ruling her?
Her we mourn and for her we struggle,
for her we shall all give our lives.

King Stefan, you dark wolf,
you Nišavian father, guard of mountains,
you're the leader of the nation's sword,
and defender of your people.

Ĉiela, chief adviser to the King on Royal International Affairs and cousin to his Highness, sat back in her chair. As always, like everyday before it, she had nothing to do. All matters of Foreign Affairs had been efficiently delegated by herself and now she could kick back all day and relax. But the relaxation of the first few initial days, those many years ago, had quickly worn off. As such, her mind was bored beyond comprehension. She's taught herself latin and had purchased several books from those merchants who arrived and left as the sun arrived and disappeared everyday. But she'd read all the ones she had a while ago and had been cast back into eternal boredom.

Something hit her window.

She sat up, quickly twisting her head round. A parrot, blue with red stripes along its wings was scratching and hitting itself against the window. She knew what it meant immediately. She let the bird in and, holding it on her arm, opened the capsule on its leg and pulled out its message. Scanning it quickly she gave the order to her subordinates. A message to the Five Men, and a telegraph to be sent.

To the Most Esteemed and Humble and Majestic Dragon Emperor of Lijiang
The Most Highest and Most Serene and Most Magnificent and Most Elevated King of Northern and Southern Hudsonia, Alexios I, sends his humble greetings. He wishes to humbly invite you to his capital of the Silent City, to discuss matters related to agreements mutually beneficial for our two nations. We would be honoured if you would visit his Most High for discussion.
Most Sincerely, Ĉielala Dio de Homo, Chief Adviser to the King on Royal International Affairs
