Factbooks and Maps / Ibiau State

Captial: Jarkoni | Population: 16.3 Million | Government: Unitary Theocratic State | Language: Absini | GDP per-capita: 8'106

 Overview
Ibiau, officially the Ibiau State, is a country located in Eastern Cotf Arayne. It is bordered to the west by the Unified Tribes of Waddan, and to the south by the Manist Republic of Sludderland; while to the east lies the Republic of Centralia. Ibiau is a landlocked country with the great Irdja desert comprising nearly half of the country’s land territory causing much of the population to reside within the southern regions of the country; save for a few nomadic peoples who traverse the dessert. The eastern border of country is comprised of the Qihad mountain range forming a natural barrier between Ibiau and the east. It is from the Qijad mountains and its precipitation that the Sarqan and Kunmir rivers originate flowing south into Waddan and Sludderland; crossing much of the southern regions of Ibiau and subsequently contributing to the population centralization there.

It is a common folk saying that “Ibiau is as old as the sands of the Irdja”. Though this can be debated it is largely agreed upon by historians and archeologists that Ibiau, in particular the fertile southern regions, saw habitation by humans as early as 600 BCE. It has been speculated that the dominant group of Ibiaunese can trace their origins to migrating groups from Waddan and Kodima though to what capacity remains unknown. During the 9th  century CE it is believed the Ibiauense made contact with the “exotic foreigners” of the south today recognized as Jarl Thorstein and his fellow Nordics. It’s largely believed that relations between the Ibiaunese and new Jarldom remained erratic, with one recovered account, dated to be from the early 12th century CE, describing an armed clash with a group of “southern marauders” speculated to be in reference to Ragnar Vidarsson’s campaign of expansion; though the outcome of this battle remains unknown.  By the 15th century CE much of the southern regions would fall under the dominion of a city state today known as ‘Yarkeb’ and its ruler Seutiun IV. Through their conquest of the southern Regions the Seutiun dynasty would consolidate their lands forming the first State of Ibiau. In the 19th century CE an invasion by the Irdja nomads would be met with little resistance due to a political crisis culminated with the Kunmir drying. This would see the Irdja nomads rule the country into the early 20th century as the Irdja Emirate of Ibiau. In contrast to the traditional hereditary rulership of dynasties past the Irdja rulers would select the sovereign among themselves forming an elective monarchy. Though rule under the Irdja Emirs was relatively peaceful many within the southern regions were dissatisfied and opposed to their reign seeing the nomadic peoples as” exotic and alien in culture”. In 1923 an armed rebellion known as the Manra uprising would lead to the overthrow the Irdja rulers leading to the rise of the current Ibiau State.

Ibiau is a theocratic unitary state functioning within a, self-described, congressional framework. The country is divided among 5 administrative regions, while the capital district and city of Jarkoni forms the center of political and state authority.  The Azhirani faith holds significant influence in every aspect of Ibiauanese life and is the basis for much of the legislative process. The faith is also the sole legal faith within the country though it has been known that Irdja nomads keep to folk religions, while provisions are made for ‘foreign beliefs’ to be protected within the boundaries of foreign embassies and consulates. Ibiaunese society can be described as rigid and generally uniform with others across Midarayne. Gender roles are emphasized with political and financial society often dominated by men, while familial and social society is seen as the domain of women. In contrast religious society makes no notable segregation. Notable slavery is protected and legal institution within Ibiau often on the basis of debt bondage. The official language of Ibiau is Absini though regional languages persist such as Waddanite throughout the Irdja, and Sluddlandic Persian along the Sarqan.

A landlocked country Ibiau’s economy is heavily reliant on its neighbors with both Sludderland and Waddan being the country’s largest trading partners. Agriculture and natural gas function as Ibiau’s key industries with Natural Gas Exportation becoming a nationalized industry in 1973 and overseen by the Commision of Economic and Fiscal matters since. Ibiau has an estimated GDP per capita of 8,106, with an estimated national GDP of 130.6 billion.

The Parliament of Kopsje, the country’s legislative and executive authority, has enacted a divisive law recently. Known simply as the Religious Restrictions Law, this newly passed legislation will legally restrict citizens of the country aged twelve and younger from participating in Religious Activities outside of their respective homes. The law now also prohibits the displaying of any religious symbol in or around public areas that are not legally recognized as “Places of Worship”.  The bill was brought forth by the, New Kopsje Integration Movement, or NKIM a political faction within the Parliament and one to hold the majority of seats since the 2016 general election. According to Parliamentary spokespersons the bill was able to be passed by instance of an anonymous abstention granting the NKIM, and other supporters of the bill, the needed majority of votes to officially pass the bill into law. This action has been met with staunch criticism and vocal opposition by rival political factions and demonstrating citizens alike. The law is the second of its kind in regards to directly affecting religious institutions within the Country. In 2017 a law was passed officially requiring all places of worship to be privately funded as well as requiring said places of worship to pay land taxes revoking a previous exemption for religious buildings.

Opposition
Following the official announcement by Parliamentary Press Offices, demonstrations in opposition to the new law, have seemingly erupted throughout the country in the past week. In the Streets of Dzhunho, the capital city of Kopsje, large gatherings of individuals have taken to the streets forming large congregations across public areas and organizing marches to the Parliamentary building demanding a revoking of the new law. Reports from the northern regions indicate a more escalated situation as KSG forces have been deployed to carry out the law which includes the removal of spiritual symbols in public places. In the town of Biraktji the situation became escalated as a group of gathered demonstrators placed themselves in front of Effigies causing KSG agents to forcibly remove them, some being detained for interfering in law enforcement operations. According to local spiritual beliefs these effigies are meant to commemorate the Eternal Spirt, a deity, whom in turn would protect the inhabitants with their energies warding off ill omens and demons. As these effigies are placed near roads outside of said town, they are placed in public areas and thus are seen as a breach of this new law.

Rival parties within the parliament have also voiced their opposition to the passage of the new Law. Notably Orzubek Akirov of the Group for Independence and Liberty has been vocal about his parties opposition to the new law.

“ ‘God who gave us life, gave us liberty…’, a fine Centralian gentleman by the name of James Taylor said this.  His words still ring true to this day, Liberty is the single most sacred concept we as a species have achieved.  This, disgrace, of a law is an affront to the dream of Liberty everywhere. It strictly denies our citizens, our children, not only the ability to practice spirituality, but to decide for themselves whether to believe at all. It is not the place of our government, our parliament as it were, to dictate to our citizens what they can or cannot do. Such acts are a clear attack on the individual freedom of the Kopsjense people. What’s worse, this new law infringes on the personal property of various organizations and individuals, once again showing the true nature of the ‘Integration Movement’. That being, like the bunch of Neo-Soviets that they truly are, their desire in “Integrating” their oppressive & Authoritarian Kangzi polices in our Kopsje” - Orzubek Akirov, Leader of the Group for Independence & Liberty

The Group for Independence & Liberty (GIL) has become the dominant opposition political faction to the NKIM, and has maintained a platform of Libertarian ideals seeking to abolish various government agencies, drastically liberalise the economy of Kopsje, and seek to establish a more federalized state. The Group has also been a fierce opponent of the 2017 Religious Taxation law, as a part of their overall opposition to taxation. Mr. Akirov, quoted James Talyor a Centralian statesmen who served as the vice President of the Federal Republic from 1859 -1862. Mr. Taylor would later serve as the President of the country for five months from 1862-1863 and become a renowned member of Centralia’s congress.

The Law was also criticized by members of the National Rejuvenation Party (NRP) whom condemned the law as “A direct attack on the culture and ethnic identity of Kopsje and its people”.

The Response
“The reactions in which opposition to this law, justly passed in the Parliament, is being carried out is the precise reason as to why this law is now in place. The Personal beliefs of individuals should not interfere in the greater livelihood of the community. We now see in the streets how powerful these superstitious beliefs can be, warping the mind and inciting not only disruptions to the peace but, in the case of other examples, leading to violence in its name. We have seen this with the case of the warring period in Midarayane, known as the Crusades, when a clash of supposed peaceful ideas was used to carry out large scale destruction and death to a whole region. We see this reciprocated to this very day, with the so called Gungnir, who carry out violent and extreme acts of terror in the name of their so-called divine beings. It is precisely this for why the parliament has gathered and made the concise decision to put an end to such folly before it reaches our borders. The youth of our country and their wellbeing should be a paramount issue, and this law will ensure not only their safety from dogmatic and dangerous cultish beliefs, but preserving their development from falling down the path of Zelotry….” - Gjulberka Yusupov, Chairwoman of the New Kopsje Intergration Movement.

The New Kopsje Integration Movement (NKIM), currently led by Chairwomen Gjulberka Yusupov , has been the dominant political force within Kopsje since the general elections of 2015 in which the party narrowly won the majority of seats within the parliament over their main opponent the GIL. The NKIM has sought, in their words, to make Kopsje a “stronger, modern country”. In their proposed Policies the NKIM has seemingly sought to establish a more centralized government turning their attention to the various Captaincies in the north hoping to ‘re-establish government authority, and protection, in the northern regions”. The Party has also set out to establish various government funded programs to assist the general needs of Kopsje citizens, with some seeing the NKIM as a welfare-state party above all else.

Members of the Workers-Unions Coalition Party (WUCP) praised the passing of the law as a “just means of limiting divisive elements within our society”. Member of the WUCP were also staunch supporters of the Religious Taxation Law of 2017.

A posting on the official government website of the Parliament clarifies to the extent of the law’s definitions and areas of effect:

Continued violations may result in temporary detainment, upon where violators will be handed to their respective country of origins Embassy.

IV. Embassies of Foreign countries and their personal are exempt from this law while on the recognized property of said Embassy and its confines.

Internnational Response
The passing of the law has managed to garner the attention of the international world.

” No government has the right to dictate either the beliefs of its citizens or the peaceful practicing thereof, and we denounce this act by the Parliament of Kopsje… it is my expectation that sanctions will be put in place…“ - Madeline Thatcher, Press Office of the Prime Minister of Tytor

In a press statement made by the Prime Minister of Tytor, Madaline Thatcher, the Prime Minister denounced the actions taken by the Parliament stating it as a violation of liberty and “..a- direct and purposeful violation of the human rights of the Kopsjenese citizenry…”. The Prime Minister also stated the Tytorian governments current action to “…review an effective response to this abuse of power…”  stating that she expected  sanctions to be enacted on Kopsje in response to the passing of the Law.

” The Republic wishes to congratulate the great move made by the Parliament of Kopsje against the threat that religions… brings onto the people of Mundus…” - Public Declaration from the Directorate of Diplomatic and Commercial Affairs. (Déclaration Public, Directeur des Affaires Diplomatiques et Commerciales)

Praise for the passage of the Law came from the Republic of Fleur who commended the Parliament for “…Pioneering the fact that illusionary beliefs are of private matters, …”. The Republic of Fleur a country located in the southern Continent of Albion has become renowned for its implementation of state sponsored atheism and fierce support for Democratic Republican movements and countries. The current Fleuroix ambassador, Madame,  Rachelle Yvonnes Martha Tourin, has stated Fleur’s hopes to present the Parliament with the Ordre du Mérite Juste for “… great determination and bravery in this fight against obscurantism…”. The intention has been a highly divisive action within the Parliament, however the Parliament collectively agreed to accept the honor sending Chairwomen, Gjulberka Yusupov, of the NKIM to receive the honor on the Parliaments behalf.  It is widely believed that during the Transition of Kopsje from the Soviet Republic to the current Parliamentary System, many sought inspiration from Fleur Statesmen and Political Figures in designing the current political process.

“It’s alright to do religion in the privacy of your own home, but it’s not right to practice it right in front of someone’s children.” - Sekkura Mona, member of the Anarchist Party Platform (Izhitsa), Abakha Independent

The passing of the new law has also become an issue of controversy within the Federation of Izhitsa, according to Izhitsa news sources. Sekkura Mona member of the Anarchist Party Platform, and member of the Izhitsan Parliament, praised the passage of the law in Kopsje likening the concept of secularization to an Izhistan bill in 2018 regarding marriage. However other members of the Izhistans political community have denounced the passage of the law. Areksim Brabets, of the same party denounced the passage of the law as:

“fascistic, and the complete opposite of what we should try to achieve in Izhitsa.”

Defiancne
Hafsah, is a Clysperi national and student who entered the country through school exchange programs. She has become a celebrated symbol of defiance for those who oppose the new laws. Hafsah along with other demonstrators took to the streets of Dzunho protesting the new laws, part of this demonstration was carrying of various religious symbols. When KSG agents were sent to break up the protests, following complaints of blocking road traffic, Hafsah and others stood their ground causing them to be forcibly detained. During a the struggle between KSG agents and demonstrators Hafsah was able to break free grasping with her a symbol of her faith, the Ankh, it is reported that she then managed to climb atop a nearby building, hoisting the religious symbol so that it could be seen clearly by all around, and openly refusing to “give up her faith”. Ms. Hafsah was latter detained and is currently being held in custody on accounts of interfering in law enforcement operations and disrupting the peace. Since her detainment many have called for her to be released, while others are mirroring her actions in a show of defiance. If punishiment is deemed necessary Hafsah could face up to a year imprisonment or 3 months.

The new Law is something that has become widely divisive in Kopsje with demonstrations being held every day this week following the laws first introduction on Monday.

The Occident and Orient - Regionalism and Rivalry
Civil-war in Clysperis

“…We are a region of principles and beliefs, perhaps not your principles and beliefs, but they're just as valid and worthy of defense as those you and your leaders espouse...We are Midaranye, and we declare our irrevocable independence…”

These are the powerful words spoken by the Pharaoh of Clysperis, Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, the (relatively) young and outspoken leader of the Clysperis Kingdom a country located in a wider region today known as “Midarayne”.  It is just one of many strong statements in an impassioned speech given by the Monarch to her people during a time of civil-strife in which Clysperis was enduring a civil war between the supporters of the Pharaoh and a rebel faction known as the Clysperis Confederation, led by the Clysperi General and proclaimed President Nekhtou.  Throughout the conflict international attention was drawn to the Kingdom eventually leading to the foreign countries voicing their support for one of the two belligerents:

“Today The Domestic General Assembly voted 92-6 to support the Clypseri Confederacy….” DWBS News

“Illegitimate states can’t declare wars…”- President Ebston Feish in reply to Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re on supporting the Clysperi Confederation, Press office of New Derusmia,

“The Republic and its Citoyens acknowledge the existence of an entity known as the Clysperi Confederation which is under violent fightings with the Kingdom of Clysperis…”
- Alexandre Marc Michel Debeauson, Director of Diplomatic and Commercial Affairs Fleur, Press Releases of the Directorate

“…In relation to the so called Confederation the Achkaerinese Government makes clear that there is no such nation as the Confederation of Clysperis…” - Achkearinese Press Office

“… The Empire of Tamora continues to support stability around Mundus from the region of MidAranye where it is actively involved in combating terrorism in Clysperis…” -Foreign office of the Empire of Tamora

The war in Clysperis was officially ended with the surrender of General Nekhtou and Confederation forces at the battle of Heshiken. While the fighting may have died and a relative peace restored to the Kingdom of Clysperis, the effects of civil war can still be felt within Clysperis and perhaps the rest of the Mir itself. These effects manifest itself in the concept of regionalism and now play a part of Geopolitics of the Mir. Some have speculated that it was from the Clysperi Civil war that the concept of the ‘Orient’, a term first coined by the Pharaoh in an interview with the Clysperis State Media Corporation, was adopted as a response to international interference in what leaders within the Midaryane region have declared a “strictly regional affair”. Others believe the sentiment of the “Orient” has originated long ago under various names and movements. One thing is for sure, regardless of its origins, the Orient Identity has now solidified itself in international Politics.

The Orient

“…the orient, nations such as Tamora, Royal Seleucid, Clysperis, essentially our beloved Midaranye in addition to those who do not, shall we say, fit quite well within the construct of the occidental nations.” – Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, in an interview with CSMC

Midarayne has come to be a term used to describe a Geo-political region within the Continent of Cotf Arayne. As its name suggests this region is located in the middle of the continent and has come to encompass many countries with similarities in political and societal culture. Of note, the Empire of Tamora, Emirate of Royal Seleucid and the Kingdom of Clysperis, seem to make up the “core” countries of this Geo-political bloc. All three countries are members of the organization known as ‘OPEN’ or [the] Oil (and Gas) Producing Exporting Nations, as well as having a strong political ties together, sharing the same government system, and strong identification with their faith. The three countries have also been the target of international actions that could be seen as hostile or aggressive toward them by foreign countries. It is these factors, among others, that seem to bring the three countries together and cement a regional identity in the form of Midarayne, and now the Orient.

In the words of the Pharaoh:

“…the orient maintains a steadfast loyalty and defense of their cultures and traditions, resisting not only calls but overt pressure from the occidental nations to turn their backs upon traditions dating back centuries…” – Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-R, CSMC

Some have come to identify this concept of the “Orient countries” as those which reject international movements, and international binding treaties such as the Mundus Convention of Universal Rights (MCUR), which many countries have criticized as breaching National Sovereignty. The Orient has also come to be identified with what could be considered as more “conservative and traditionalist” polices, as all three of these countries maintain a strong system centralized rule of in which the sovereign holds the ultimate authority over all political and legislative issues. Also of note is the more Patriarchic nature of the region in which Men are granted more liberty in certain aspects then women. Economically these countries inhabit a difficult region of the Mir, many of them being host to harsh dry desert with little in the way of natural resources other than Oil, and minerals. This economic situation has seen the Orient come to be identified by some as a region of less wealth than the average of the Mir as well as dawning the Label of “developing nation”.

The Kingdom of Clysperis, of which Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re is leader of, is a country in northern Midarayne bordering Safrean. The Kingdom holds its origins to the Kingdom of Abydos. Following the rise of Islam within Abydos members of the Pharaonic line fled the country to the territory that is now Clysperis, and with assistance from the Tamora, established it as their own country and preserving the centuries old Kemetic faith. The country (much like Kopsje itself) would come under the Influence of the United Soviet Rodina later becoming a Soviet Republic. In 1977 the Empire of Tamora would assist in restoring the Pharaonic government, the Foruth Kingdom of Clysperis being officially established in 1982. The Kingdom of Clysperis is notably less wealthy than its fellow Midarayne countries of Tamora and the Emirate of Royal Seleucid, partially owing to its current recovery form a civil war. However, under the leadership of Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, the country has been seen as a champion of national sovereignty the young Pharaoh, being credited for coining the term “Orient”  to describe the Midaranye region. The country has also made strides to establish close relations with neighboring Tamora.

Of note is the current construction and establishment of Setri, “the City of Dreams”. A joint project began by the Pharaoh, and now being assisted with Tamora. The city is an example of the cooperation carried out by Orient states as both the native Kemetic faith and Tamoran Manist faith will have temples in the city, Manism being declared a “peer faith" by the Pharoah. The city of Setri is meant to be a  “modern smart city” one which is to become an economic center within Midarayne and Rival cities in foreign countries such as Rokkenjima, Ui Cennslaig, and East Morland, all regarded as economic powerhouses and being labeled by the Pharaoh as countries of the “Occident”.

“Firstly, the report shows a Mundus dominated by rich countries…Uppsala Convention, MCUR and a whole series of international organizations are the creation of those powers at the top and are tools to level all developing nations and turn them into cheap copies with little identity of their own…”  Professor and Ayatollah Azad Arak of Tamora, in regards to the 2018 Benjamin-Catherine Agency (L’Agence Benjamin-Catherine) Report of International Power

The Empire of Tamora is the largest country within the Midarayne region and often seen as the de’facto leader of the “Orient”. Tamora is a union of various kingdoms who fall under the leadership of the Safavid Dynasty, currently headed by Emperor Abbas Safavid. The country traces its origins to the founding of the Manist faith within the then Kingdom of Tamora. The Kingdom of Tamora would go on to conquer neighboring polities, with the latest acquisition being the Kingdom of Attica in 1958. The largest country by land size within the Orient Region, Tamora has often been the target of international sanctions a result of the country’s policies on debt slavery. Debt slavery is the punishment of enslavement on those who’s net assests reach zero or below. This method of economic punishment is widely practiced within Tamora and the subject of international Scrutinization.  Tamora is often seen as a relatively powerful country albeit lacking in development. Organizations within Tamora have made a notable presence on the international stage and considered by some to be a source of Tomoran soft power in international politics.

Of note, The Tamora Imperial Bank (TIB) has become a pwerful international financial institution having expanded into Safrean, Clysperis, Phuebra and Zimilia. Tamora and the Heyran Republic have also come to agreement establishing the port City of Elysium. A territory under the jurisdiction of Heyra located in Midarayne.

“While Seleucids and Tamorans are not brothers so to speak we are like the cousins that spend so often visiting they may as well be your brother… the Tamoran cousins of ours are under threat and should the worse happen I hope our people shall remember the hospitality they have shown us.” – Address made to the people of Royal Selecid, following Heydar Soter’s ascension as King

The Emirate of Royal Seleucid is the southernmost country within the Midrange region and the wealthiest. The country traces its origins the Anahitaism faith and was officially united under a single banner by King Nicator Soter. The Emirate would become a powerful force in the Sea of Kyne, establishing rule over the territory that is now the Commonwealth of The Unified Iwi until the 21st century. The Seleucid Rule of Maori lands has become a source of tension between the two countries. Equally so, in 2016 an attempted coup d’etat against the government of King Akakios Soter would lead to violence gripping the country resulting in the deaths of numerous religious minorities, most notably followers of the Cult of Helus a faith native to East Moreland. The events of this civil-unrest are considered a Genocide by some and has led to the establishment of the “Celtic Protectorate” a multinational zone established in southern Royal Seleucid. Under the leadership of King Hedyar Soter the Emirate has undergone many construction projects seeing the country continue to become a notable presence on the international Stage. The Emirate has also taken steps to normalize relations with Ui Cennslaig and East Morland and established close relations with the Empire of Tamora.

Of note, a Gigafactory along the Tamoran-Seleucid, a joint project among OPEN nations headed by Royal Seleucid and Tamora, has recently opened and meant to produce rechargeable vehicle batteries. This project is seen as a potential foreshadowing of Midarayne nations trying to diversify their economies to avoid dependence on the Oil industry. The Emirate of Royal Seleucid and Empire of Tamora are also hosting the first Jointly-Hosted Mundus Games.

The Occident

“…the occident, nations such as East Moreland (including its CNN allies and partners further afield), Rokkenjima, Tytor; essentially, the representatives of the liberal, internationalist rose-coloured glasses Mundus…” – Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, CSMC

The Occident, Internationalists, Imperialists, all labels given by leaders in Midarayne to describe a supposed coalition of foreign powers that they (Midarayne leaders) view as hostile to the Midarayne or Orient region. It is unclear where the “Occident” begins and where it ends, as countries from Alba Kayrina, Ardia and Albion have all fallen under this label. To this end some speculate whether the “Occident” truly exists as an identity or whether it is a mere catch all term to describe those countries viewed negatively within the Orient region. However, a clear pattern among those countries given this label, are a series of harsh political and economic actions taken against the Orient countries. There are certain countries that have taken a stance of stark opposition to one or more of the Midarayne countries:

“In an announcement from the Imperial Palace Emperor Benson II has announced that he intends to formally request all nations of Albion to begin a boycott of goods and services originating from Tamora…”The Island News, Paracambi

“…regardless of their culture or tradition the news from Royal Seleucid of the birth of a new Prince is something that urges me to write an appeal...We urge the nations of the world to shun this invitation and send the Soter family a direct message that their long history of evil is no longer to be tolerated on Mundus…” - Royal Press Office of Emperor Benson of Paracambi, in response to the birth of Prince Aali Akakios Soter of Royal Seleucid

“…We've seen it supported by the Tamoran Empire and, recently, other states of Midaranye. The spread of this vile institution, as well as the overreaching Tamoran foreign agenda, presents very real challenges to the world we've worked so hard to build… It is prudent that we do not allow the Tamoran Empire to rise to the capabilities we saw the USR able to field…”  – Empress Evanthe of Rokkenjima, Rokkenjima Broadcasting Corporation

“…Tamora routinely denounces internationalism, specifically as it affects Midaranye, which the government in Djerb appears to believe is its exclusive sphere of influence… I wish to emphasize that in this modern age all nations are interconnected.  That which affects one affects all, no matter what politicians and diplomats may say to the contrary… Blame for the instigation of the present crisis in the Sea of Kyne can and should be placed firmly upon the government of Royal Seleucid…” Prime Minister Madaline Thatcher, Press office of the Prime Minister of Tytor

“…all sanctions and travel advisories leveled at the Empire of Tamora will remain in place.  In addition, the following nations continue to practice slavery or indentured servitude: the Unified Tribes of Waddan; the Empire of Socram; the Kingdom of Clysperis; and the Emirate of Royal Seleucid.  Each of these will also have sanctions placed upon them…” - Prime Minister Madaline Thatcher, Press office of the Prime Minister of Tytor

Official statements such as these as well as harsh political and economic actions taken against the targeted countries, displays a clear connection, intentional or not, between these countries and their leadership’s opposition to the Midarayne states. Whether justified or not, the actions taken by these governments and others around the Mir in scrutinizing the Midarayne nations has come to be identified as the prime example of the Proclaimed “Occidental Nations”.  Recently the Kingdom of Tytor has announced an official boycott of the Mundus 2020 games, jointly hosted by the Countries of Tamora and the Royal Seleucid, as well as stricter political actions against the two nations, and many other countries within the region for grievances over the policies of Slavery and indentured Servitude within the mentioned countries. In the words of Tytorian Prime Minister, Madaline Thatcher, their government has taken these actions in response to what the Government of Tytor sees as, “…violate that most fundamental of all God-given rights: the right of a human being to choose his or her own destiny…”

This action was seemingly followed by the countries of Paracambi, and Rokkenjima, who have both announced their own  respective boycott of the 2020 Mundus Games.  Whether intentional or not these actions could be perceived as a coalition of countries targeting the Orient nations over political grievances potentially giving a more understandable reasoning behind the Orient country’s criticism of the international environment and actions.

A different path
Economic Sanctions against the Midarayne Region and in particular, Tamora, is seen by some as a potentially dangerous action to engage in. The Tamoran Economy being the second largest, below the Emirate of Royal Seleucid, in the region is heavily integrated with other countries around the region and to some extent the greater Mir as a whole. Caution has been raised by international commentators that continued sanctions against the Tamoran economy could have unintended consequences, most pressing a large economic collapse of the Midarayne Region. A reality that has already affected Tamora in the form of an economic recession. This situation has led some to question if harsh action by Foreign States against Midayrne countries is truly jusitifed and wise. The Sanctions have also managed to garner criticisms by some international observers as only furthering the very issues the Sanctions seek to address. In contrast others have praised the actions taken by these Governments as a necessary means to, “combat a vile inhumane systematic institution”.

“ …2019 has already seen the Rokkenjima [Empire], the second largest economy in Mundus,  break all economic relations with Tamora further hurting the Empire’s economy. They were followed by further sanctions from East Moreland, Seaforth, Xaeth, Krimeon and New Derusmia among others…Enslavement as a result of bankruptcy skyrocketed with 120 thousand people being enslaved last year as a result…Families with four or more children were most affected by debt enslavement as they often hard only one bead earner in the family. In the first two months of 2019, the courts have already sentenced to slavery 30 thousand individuals, with economic analysts expecting the number to reach 240 thousand by the end of the year if the current recession continues…” Tamoran Imperial News Service

Of note is the actions taken by the Kingdom of East Moreland.  Falling under the label of Occident by Pharaoh Aksaha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, East Moreland has been criticised for establishing a “Helusian Empire” through the wide spread of the countries faith, the Cult of Helus, seen by some Midarayne leaders as a proxy with means of exerting Morland control over world affairs especially in regards to Bakkermaya and the Celtic Protectorate. The actions carried out by the East Morland government have been considered more tame and effective in regards to addressing their grievances with Midarayne Policies, by some international observers.

“We live in an age when people buy products for a whole range of reasons…People need to realise they think global but act local.” – Melissa Lusk of East Morland, Northfort News

Melissa Lusk, Chairmen of the CTO Refugee Council (now the [https://independentorder.net/index.php?topic=1226.msg10370#msg10370] The International Refugee Support Agency (IRSA))   and Tim Carpenter of East Moreland, have jointly revitalized an organization known as the Freestone Abolitionist Society. Originally founded in the 18th century the, FAS as it is commonly referred to, has been an organization of East Morland known for addressing the Country’s grievances with the practice of slavery. In this newly revitalized state, Ms. Lusk and Mr. Carpenter, re-introduced the “Freestone Mark” a method of identification for goods and products that “told their customers they did their business without causing human suffering…. This more, calculated, and detailed, method of handling the country’s grievances has been seen by some international observers as a more effective method in avoiding more unintended consequences, while others have described it as being “too soft, and lenient” describing the Freestone Mark as unable “to make any real impact.”

The Merina Situation
The Commonwealth of Merina , is a country located in the southern continent of Albion and currently enduring its own civil strife involving armed conflict between government forces led by President Olumbe Nguessa, and various separatist and rebel factions. International Observers have come to see the conflict in Merina as the first situation which could lead to a potential Cold-War between Orient countries, in particular Tamora, and those opposed to them. The empire of Tamora had officially voice its support for the Government of Merina and with agreements made between the Empire and President Olumbe Nguessa, has deployed forces into Merina.

“The Tamoran Empire formally announces its full support for the government of Merina…has pledged to work closely with the Merinan government to see an end to the current loss of life taking place and restore tranquility in the country” -    Foreign office of the Empire of Tamora

This announcement was met with harsh criticisms from the Governments of Tytor and Rokkenjima:

“…the Kingdom of Tytor denounces the Empire of Tamora and its imperialistic actions. This deployment…is considerably more likely to bring about greater instability and further suffering…”- Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher, Press Office of the Prime Minister of Tytor

“…regarding the deployment of Tamoran troops to Merina, a development which will most certainly increase the instability within Merina…” - Office of the Imperial Media Liaison, Rokkenjima

Of note the Repblic of Fleur made an official statement in which the Republic states its intention to support, financially, the National Liberation Army, led by Diakame Bemba, a faction of the conflict that is feircly opposed to the Current Government and President Olumbe Nguessa. This development will put the Republic of Fleur at odds with Empire of Tamora.

“The Republic is glad to announce that the Commonwealth of Merina, as represented by the Armée de Libération de Merine, with as his head Monsieur Bemba… shall benefit from the funds we put at the disposal for the development of their country, and their defense…” – Alexandre Marc Michel Debeauson, Director of Diplomatic and Commercial Affairs of Fleur, Press Releases of the Directorate

The council of Albion has called for a temporary ceasefire between the various factions, where it is believed the Council will try to mediate the situation and come to a peaceful resolution through currently held peace talks. Present at these peace talks are Alya Safavid, the Head of Tamoran Foreign Affairs, Thomas Sandrock, the Tytorian representative to the Council of Albion, Roger Hastings , representing the Empire of  Paracambi, and Alexandre Marc Michel Debeauson, Director of Diplomatic and Commercial Affairs of Fleur, among others.  As the situation continues to unfold many speculate whether the new decade shall see the creation of an “Orient-Occident” Cold-war.

Your Majesty,

It is with pleasure that the Parliament of Kopsje receives your invitation. Though our country has been something of a minor note on the international stage, the new decade is an open path that may lead to many avenues. In this Kopsje would be delighted to establish relations with the Realm of Cassiopeia and, by the will of the Parliament, has appointed Kubatbek Otunbayev as our Ambassador. May this be start of new and everlasting mutual relationship.

Mundus Games 2020: Controversy in Athletic Spectacle

Tradition
The Mundus Games are an international spectacle of sportsmanship, symbolic in its show of international unity through athleticism and cooperation of different countries and cultures. It is widely understood that the first concept of the Mundus Games holds their origins in the history of Achkaerin. Originating as a festival by the ancient peoples of Achkaerin to honor of the tri-deities of the Achkaerinese faith Namis, Kisara, and Xiaoyu, the first athletic aspects of this festival are believed to have involved foot races, throwing competitions, and wrestling matches. During these festivals, a flame would be alight and kept burning throughout the entirety of the games. This tradition continues to this day with the “Mundus Flame” being housed on Luna Isle within Achkaerin when the games are not in session. Though the games may have their origins in Achkaerin, since their modern inception first beginning in 2013, the games have come to be inclusive of all countries on Mundus; paraded as an avenue of peaceful interaction between different peoples and cultures. Indeed, it may be wrong to say that any country can truly hold the Mundus Games as their own conception as new aspects and categories are seemingly added every few years, the contribution of different participating countries

Opening Ceremonies
This year’s Games have been heralded as one which brings a historical shift to the nature of the event. The Games of the year 2020 are historical in the sense that they are the first to be hosted by two countries at the same time in a jointly coordinated manner. The Countries of the Tamoran Empire and the Emirate of Royal Seleucid managed to achieve the necessary votes to be awarded the honor of hosting the games surpassing their contender, the Kingdom of Tytor. This will mark the first time the Midarayne region will host the prestigious event; something that is hoped to bring about potential interest in the region and alleviate the seemingly negative view held by the international community. In the opening ceremony of the 2020 Games the hosting countries captivated audiences with two separate ceremonies, one in each of the respective hosts chosen cities of Ipsus (Royal Seleucid) and Alaverdi (Tamora), in an entrancing performance illustrating the religious origins of the two country’s respective faiths.

Within the Arena of Ipsus, a performance carried out by the talented youth of Royal Seleucid regaled the story of the deity Anahita and how through her divinity she was able to purify the poisoned waters allowing for life to finally grow in the harsh desert giving birth to the Seleucid civilization. In an equally mesmerizing performance carried out by the Tamoran venue, told the story of the religious figure the Prophet Mani and the birth of the Tamoran state. from a fledgling polity to the mighty Empire it is today. Another ceremony the relaying of the Mundus Flame was also carried out in a creative and unique manner; one that allowed both nations to distinctly, yet equally, engage in the Flame ceremony. The Bonfire from which the Mundus Flame is traditionally ignited with, was held at a Jointly constructed Gigafactory symbolizing the unity of the two countries and in the words of King Hedyar of the Royal Seleucid Emirate “…to help do exactly what the games are intended to do, build a better Mundus.". From the Gigafactory two individuals, each clad in the national colors of their respective nations, lit a lantern meant to hold their respective piece of the Mundus flame. The two were then transported via harness by air to each of the countries chosen venue cities. In the Tamoran city of Alaverdi the lantern was passed on to Tamoran gold medalists:  Yalda Karimi & Mirhashem Tajik where to two brought the lantern to ignite one cauldron. In Ipsus, Burtrus Karimi of the Seleucid Equsitrian team, was handed the other lantern and in a spectacle of incredible synchronization lit another cauldron officially opening the 2020 Mundus Games, in two separate cities in two separate countries.

Following the ceremony King Hedyer Soter, current sovereign of the Royal Seleucid Emirate, and Lady Alya Safavid, Mother of the Nation of Tamora and First Wife of Emperor Abbas Safavid, gave inviting thankful and hopeful remakes at the opening the 2020 Games:

King Hedyar -
“…During the next 18 days of sport we shall see nations who do not always perhaps see eye to eye embrace each other as friends on the sports field. We shall see them console each other in disappointment and congratulate each other in success. It is my sincere hope that once these athletes leave here they will take with them the same spirit and same compassion into all they do. I wish every athlete the best for the next 18 days and I welcome every fan to our nation…”

Lady Alya Safavid -
“…I would like to begin by adding our thanks to the nations of Mundus for choosing us and our great Seleucid friends to host the most important sporting event. It marks not only a first because two nations host the Games but it is also the first time the games come to Midaranye, a region of most importance to Mundus. I would also want to welcome the athletes to the games, they are not only the best athletes Mundus has to offer but also ambassadors of their countries. Lastly, I would like to thank all those watching the games, we are overwhelmed by your interest and enthusiasm.”

Controversy and Backlash
Despite the hopeful outlooks of the two hosting countries and their representatives, the 2020 Mundus games have come to be mired in controversy and backlash, possibly brining into question the very validity of the event as an athletic gesture of unity and, according to some, merely a façade for political prestige. These criticisms come as the 2020 Games are the first in the known history of the international event in which participating countries have refused to allow their respective athletes to be housed in the Athletic village of Alaverdi Attica, Tamora. A statement made by the East Morlander Minister of culture, Katy Garret, explains the phenomenon which is a stance now adopted by other participating countries:

East Morland Minister of Culture, Katy Garret
"The games are the pinnacle of each athletes career. We have made it policy that we do not involve politics in sport…. We as a nation are responsible for making sure our athletes are safe while overseas and as such we have instructed Team East Moreland to base all athletes in Royal Seleucid accommodation and will provide executive jets to fly them into Tamora for the day of their competition, returning them to Ipsus immediately after."

Princess Esme of The Holy Empire of Achkaerin -
"The first thing to say is that we never politicize the Games themselves, we've never done that and we never will. The second thing to say is that every nation on Mundus has known for months that the Games going to Midaranye was a possibility it was without question the most public of bids we've ever seen in Mundus Games history… Therefore knowing that the Games could end up in Midaranye we at Team Achkaerin have had ample time to plan out what we would do in this situation… Team Achkaerin will compete in the Games this year… We will however opt to base our entire team out of Royal Seleucid during the games and transport the athletes competing in events based in Tamora across the border as necessary…”

While some countries have preserved their place to participate in the 2020 Mundus Games, other countries have taken a hard stance against this years games. In an unprecedented move, various countries have decided to fully refuse participation in the 2020 Mundus Games barring their respective athletes from participating in the event. Notably the Countries of the Kingdom of Tytor, First Empire of Rokkennjima and, Empire of Paracambi, have all taken the stance in what is now being called a Boycott. The first in the event’s history. Of note many of these countries are known to have a highly negative view of either one or both of the hosting countries leading some to suspect this boycott is politically motivated above anything else. Each country has issued their statements explaining their stances and actions:

Statement by Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher of Tytor -
”…In these troubled times, it is essential to remember what is most important in life.  Tytor chooses to boycott the Mundus Games, not because we were not chosen to host, but because those who will host have elected to violate that most fundamental of all God-given rights: the right of a human being to choose his or her own destiny…

Office of the Imperial Media Liaison, Rokkenjima  -
“….While the First Empire recognizes the significance of the Mundus Games we cannot, in good conscience, compete in two lands which stand in blatant opposition to the basic rights all Peoples are born with. The present year has presented many tests to the international community on the challenges presented by the Tamoran institution of slavery, and this decision to host the Mundus Games in the cradle of oppression serve to show just how broken the moral compass of Mundus has become…”

“Imperial Edict” The Island News, Paracambi -
The government have today confirmed that no Paracambian athlete will compete in this years Mundus Games. The Emperor explained the decision stating “…our nations heritage is proudly built upon our anti-slavery action and not a single Paracambian is untouched in their ancestry by the institution of slavery… We can never turn our back on this heritage." It was explained that the Emperor has the agreement of all national governing bodies that they will not be sending competitors to the games and even went further that he has their agreement that any Paracambian who competes under the Mundus Games banner will never compete for the National Team again.

All boycotting states hold a similar grievance in common this being the institution of Slavery within the Tamoran Empire, and its historical practice in the Royal Seleucid Emirate. A practice still legal and largely utilized within the Empire, slavery has long been a contentious subject for the Empire and the focus of many criticism against the Empire and the Safavid dynasty. Despite this the Empire defiantly defends this practice, which is argued by some to not only be beneficial to the Tamoran economy but a necessity. This show of steadfastness in the face of overwhelming opposition has, to some, become an inspiration across circles in Mundus and will most likely be a situation that shall not disappear anytime soon. Regardless, both the Empire of Tamora and the Royal Seleucid Emirate have made a public response towards these actions, seemingly calling for an alternative for athletes whos’ countries forbid them from participating under their national banner:

Ipsus Daily, Royal Seleucid-
”… By boycotting the games these nations are merely damaging their own athletes. I wish to extend an invite to those from boycotting nations who had qualified to still come and compete under the banner of the Mundus Games Committee…”

Foreign office of the Empire of Tamora-
” …We would like to note that the Mundus Games are a celebration of sports and helps to foster international understanding and friendship and consider the intention of several governments to boycott the games as going against the sprint of the games. … The boycott robs the athletes from the boycotting countries of the chance to compete against the very best athletes in Mundus. … It is for this reason that we second the proposal of His Majesty King Heydar for these athletes to compete under the banner of the Mundus Games Committee.

As of yet it appears no boycotting country has accepted this offer. The Empire of Paracambi in a show of solidity with their actions and perhaps defiance against the Hosting Countries has opted to Host their own games called the “EMPIRE GAMES” or “Aluhampton Games” after the country’s capitol city. It is not just countries that have voiced their concerns and stances on the current situation surrounding the 2020 Mundus Games. The Mundus Games Committee and Mundus Sporting Committee also made open statements addressing the situation:

Press office of the Mundus Sporting Committee -
” We do employ for the Mundus Games what has until now always been considered a robust and fair bidding process… We have strict criteria that hosting bids must meet, these are assessed by an analyst group and a risk assessment is produced and whether a bid is permitted to advance … We will as is our custom look into this process before the next games and make any adjustments we believe necessary…”

MGC President Isabel Sullivan, Global New Network -
” I said when the joint bid was initially mentioned that the MGC's role is not based on politics….”

Whether the current situation and controversy surrounding the 2020 Mundus Games will become a precedent for future Mundus Games, or differences can be settled and the spirit of Athletic unity beyond national borders will be preserved is something that will be determined in the next Mundus Games.

Current Standings
The Current Standings of the 2020 Mundus Games are one of great interest and excitement as previously lesser known countries within the Mundus Games begin to rack up an impressive number of gold medals. At the time of this article the top three competing nations, in order from first to third, are as follows:

1. The Queendom of Lodja with - 8 Gold medals, 9 Silver medals, 4 Bronze medals, with a current total of 21 Medals.
2. The Republic of Heyra with – 7 Gold medals, 8 Silver medals, 5 Bronze medals, with a current total of 20 Medals.
3. Authorised Griss Athletes with – 7 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals, 6 Bronze medals, with a current total of 20 Medals.

Perhaps surprising and exciting of all participants in the Performance of the Griss. The 2020 Mundus Games is the first time members of the Griss athletic community have participated in the event also marking the first time the isolated country of the Griss Confederacy has, indirectly, participated in such an global event to the scale of this size. The outstanding performance of the Griss athletes is bound to awe MGS enthusiasts and casual followers alike as the whole of Mundus eagerly awaits to see how far these mysterious and isolated peoples can maintain their strong performance. Of note the athletes from the Griss Confederacy are not permitted to participate in Games under their national banner, instead being relegated to the status of “Authorised Griss Athletes” as independent participants.

The Queendom of Lodja Currently leads above all other countries by 1 medal making the coming day’s events to be one full of anticipation as to whether the Lodjian Athletes can maintain their lead. The Republic of Heyra comes in second place tying with the Griss Athletes, just two medals is all that separates these two from coming on top surpassing one another and Lodja. Interestingly the Kingdom of East Moreland, seen to be a strong contender and regular participant in the Mundas Games has lagged behind this year managing to earn eleven medals of which only three are Gold. Tied for fourth are  are the Holy Empire of Achkaerin and newcomer, The Federation of Izhitsa, both with 18 medals. Achkaerin leading with six gold medals to Izhitsa’s four. Though with Izhitsa’s strong performance at their first Games, many wait in anticipation to see how this may change.

The Commonwealth of Kopsje was unable to qualify for this year’s Games. Though a disappointment to many who hoped 2020 might be the chance for the country to showcase its Athletic ability, many have continued to tune into TINS and RSTV as the spirit of the Games continues to be lively within the Commonwealth, a common sight being to support regional neighbor Achkaerin. However, the Griss athletes have caught the eye and support of many.

Kopsje
Unknown location
There were two things that first started running in Ainurja’s mind as her consciousness gradually returned to her. Cold and cuffed. As she finally regained control of her slumped head, she took her time to observe her surroundings. She was leaned against a wall her hands cuffed together, one of the first things she took note of, the area was not that large, hell it was cramped with barley enough room for movement if she were free. To her right piled neatly and compacted was an assortment of boxes and crates. Supplies, but for what? She squinted trying to make out any sort of label, a possible indication of where she was. Eventually she gave up, it being too dark to make out anything of detail. She observed her surroundings to the best of her abilities coming to the realization that this was some sort of shipping container. An ever-present though low hum resonated throughout area, which could only mean…Shit, was all she could think of now. Ainurja wasn’t even sure how she got into this situation. Her memoires still hazy but it was clear that someone somehow managed to overcome her, cuff her, and then toss her in the back of a truck going to a destination unknown. Ainuja contemplated this realization considering the worst possible outcomes which was death, and the best possible outcome. “Probably” death. Suddenly a soft but prickly object pushed itself against her left arm causing her to instantly pull her arm away snapping her attention to whatever it was that touched her.

Hair. A mop of it, unkempt too. Ainurja studied this new anomaly having somhow missed it before. She could just barely make out the silhouette of a small figure settled next to her sharing the same bondage at their wrists as Ainurja, though they were limp. A child, boy, probably between nine and twelve, and sleeping. Having been slightly disrupted the child mumbled something incomprehensible shifting his bobbing head one way before idly finding his way back to Ainurja’s arm, resting his small head for comfort. Ainurja didn’t resist this time letting the boy lean into her, blissfully oblivious to the situation, he deserved that at least. A new word now resonated in her mind: Trafficker. It was one she knew all too well making this situation take an uncomfortable yet familiar atmosphere. Looking down at the boy again she tried to study him, his features, any potential hint of his origins. Was he Kopsjenese or foreign? Despite her attempts, between the near total darkness and the boy’s hair hiding his face, she could come to no conclusions. One thing was for sure, he was heavily drugged allowing him to be less trouble for their “chauffeurs”. Ainurja let out sigh at the thought though she could not deny its tactfulness.

It was then that a harsh and near ear-piercing screech of tire on tarmac heralded the coming of a chaotic scene. The sudden stop jolted the two captives awake, Ainurja attempting to brace herself before crashing hard into the piled boxes, while the boy had a much softer landing with Ainurja acting as his cushion. Ainurja let out a frustrated snarl, whether at the boy, the crash with the boxes (which she just found out were in fact entirely metal) or a combination of the two was unclear but her frustration was easily recognizable. In a sudden move Ainurja lightly shoved the boy away, an audible thud followed by the rattling of chains sounding through out the new stopped Vehicle. Why had they stopped? Ainurja thought to herself. If they’d reached their destination, then the last thing to do was make such a fashionable maneuver. More probability of damaging the goods that way. So then why? Her thoughts were interpreted by the intrusiveness of a soft but frantic voice bombarding her with questions. The accent of the boy was odd, familiar yet foreign. Ainurja could clearly understand what he was saying but the way his words left his mouth, the combination of sounds flowing into one another it was melodic Almost as if he were softly singing to her rather than speaking. Focusing on the boy’s voice Ainurja had ignored whatever questions he’d been asking trying to pinpoint his origin yet couldn’t quite place it. The boy was growing visibly frustrated and tried to raise his voice but before he could continue a new sound pierced the otherwise quiet scene.

A sound everyone was familiar with but never imagined hearing in person, reminiscent of thunder yet distinctly manmade. Even though muffled and seemingly distant the two Instinctively dropped down as low as they could, stomachs flat to the floor. There was another pause and then that horrifying sound came again, followed by another and soon enough the thunder morphed into a full-on storm. Gunfire chaotic sporadic gunfire it rang all around them from the left, the right, even in front of them. An ambush, which meant they were somewhere in the north. The land where law and order had decayed away into warlordism.  “Snowbaggers!” Ainurja suddenly yelled out in a mixture of anger and realization, her voice resonating throughout the container allowing it to overcome the sporadic gunfire and occasional whizzing of stray bullets that made their way through the container. As she looked up to where one freshly made hole was, she noticed very little light made its way through the opening revealing the world outside to be shrouded in the ever-looming darkness of the night. Ainurja took a moment to think about her situation and how to get out of it.

The Truck was being ambushed probably on both sides and considering the firefight had yet to die down it meant this truck was apart of a small convoy. Her hands were currently cuffed together restricting her movement, fortunately the idiots haphazardly cuffed from the front granting her some leeway. They’d also been kind enough to leave her here alone, well with the exception of her fellow captive. Still their over reliance on the drugs allowed her time to think plan. The only problem was the doors of the cargo container could only be opened from the outside. Ainurja cautiously inched her way towards the side of the container pressing her ear against the wall. Though barely able to make anything out beyond the gunfire, If she focused enough she could just make out … there! Footsteps approaching from the side, they were rushed too. Okay maybe she could get through this. Now confident in her plan she swiftly turned to the boy who was, shaking? She let out an annoyed sigh. Unfortunately for her his presence here made things more complicated, the last thing she needed was some shaken scared little pup getting in the way of things. Observing him for a moment more, she grabbed his arm and haphazardly hoisted him up, meeting his eye level.

"Look, kid. You want to get out of this alive? Follow my lead, keep your ass down, and keep up. You stray behind too far or decide to run off, then you’re on your own. Got it?... Got it?!” Her tone was stern a demanding. The boy hesitated for a bit his head darting around with each new sound of gunfire. Realizing his fear was distracting him Ainuraja repeated herself raising her voice and shaking him to get him to focus. His head snapped to Ainurja and then he nervously nodded. It was all Ainurja needed, whether it was true or not she was going to find out. By now the footsteps had stopped and the sound of locking mechanism being released echoed throughout the container overcoming even the fighting. Ainurja took a deep breath and prepared herself. This was a stupid plan but all she had and she sure hoped it wouldn’t get her killed.  Time almost crawled to stop as the final lock was released and a surge of bright light flooded the once dark container. Ainurja squinted her eyes just barley able to make out the silhouette of a person and not hesitating even for a second lounged at the figure, yelling “Get their sidearm!” as she did so.

The figure was clearly taken by aback unprepared for such a wild display. Their hesitance cost them as Ainurja was already on top bearing all her weight down before they could even respond. Though her hands were bound, the negligence of cuffing them in her front allowed her just enough liberty to use them as a makeshift club. Brining her hands together positioning the round edges of the cuffs downward she viciously brought them down on the unsuspecting figure’s face , his low grunts reveling him to be a man. Ainurja didn’t let up for a single moment continuing to use her cuffs to bash in the man’s head, each impact of metal to face producing an excruciating painfilled scream from the poor bastard. The chaos around them drowned out his cries for help even as he began to scream for someone, anyone to help. Eventually those too died down and the only sound left was the gurgling of his own life leaving him. Red crimson now flooding around his head.

The gruesome business done Ainurja took a moment to pry the rifle from the dead man’s hands and then began to take in her surroundings. Everywhere she looked where figures engaged in vicious combat some wielding knives and other melee weapons trying to overpower their opponents and deliver the final blow. Others had taken cover behind an array of vehicles that dotted the area their firearms in a near constant barrage of fire as everyone tried their damnedest to land a fatal shot. All in all, it wasn’t the worst scenario and luckily for her no one seemed to notice the two escapees. Ainurja then looked back to the boy, fixating her gaze on the young figure. What she saw conjured a new source of fury inside her. Instead of following her clear and simply instructions the lad had opted to simply observe the whole scene and now, as was apparent by the mortified look on his face, was passing judgment on his fellow escapee.

“What the hell did I say about keeping up!? GET. HIS. GUN!” the command was practically barked at the kid with a seething tone that surprised even Ainurja.  Still it worked and he instantly he snapped out of his daze scurrying to the now deceased man and trying his hardest not to stare at the gruesome pulp that used to resemble a face, fumbled with the side holster before freeing the pistol and then hurried to follow Ainurja. Yeah, yeah, it was probably beyond stupid having a nervous kid carry a fully loaded weapon amidst a practical blood bath but the only thing Ainurja was concerned with was  getting out of here and kid with a pistol was bound to cause someone to hesitate, and that’s all Ainurja really needed. The two quickly made their way across the makeshift battlefield, itself an open road with various vehicles, including another large truck, acting as objects of potential cover for their captors. Lining the road on either side were collection of various smaller vehicles, some two passenger trucks, other snowmobiles, all outfitted for the purpose of ambushing bearing the telltale signs and aesthetics of Snowbaggers.

“Hurry up!” Ainurja called back to her young companion who was starting to lag. She could have just left him behind. Honestly, part of her wanted to as her purpose for him was already done and he was beginning to look like a potential liability than someone of use. Yet there was something inside of her that just couldn’t bring herself to abandon him. A gut feeling perhaps? It only grew stronger the more she considered it, ultimately leading her to leave it out of the question for better or worse. Finally, the boy was nearly at her spot and fortunately for them the chaos that engulfed the entire area seemingly masked their movements. Suddenly the boy stopped a look of horror sprawled across his face. What now!? Ainurja angrily thought to herself, before she could make an motions she could feel her body yanked back with a force that almost winded her as her body was slammed against the car she’d chosen for cover. A sharp throbbing erupted in her head as she realized it had hit the side of car causing her to fall to the ground.

“Oi! The cargo’s escaping!” came the thunderous grizzly voice of man now standing over her and kicking her weapon away. As he reached down towards her, Ainurja brought her foot to the side of the man’s leg with as much force as she could causing him to fall to the ground letting out a pained cry. It earned her only a moment of respite in which she pulled herself up. There was not time to find her gun as the man was already up himself and now charging at her. Ainurja was able to sidestep out of the way causing the man to fumble, but even now everything felt blurry and she wasn’t sure she could keep up in a proper fight. Of course, that didn’t matter as her attacker now made his way back towards her this time more cautiously yet still aggressive. He went in for a lousy punch with his right hand which Ainurja was easily able to block allowing her to bring her knee sharply up to the mans stomach. He was just barely able to get out of the way at the time. Causing Ainurja to stumble. As she tried to rebalance herself a hard blow crashed into her side causing her to retch and instinctually reach down. A big mistake and before she could react her attacker charged at her and with all his mass pinned her to the side of a car. There was but a second for Ainurja to comprehend all this before the man brought his hands to her throat and began to strangle her.

She tried to resist, using ever muscle in her body as leverage to push the beast of man off of her. Even using her fingers to try and claw at the mans face everything and anything to get him off but it was useless. She knew it and so did he a sick grin creeping across his face at the satisfaction of his victory. Ainurja could only look back with a seething rage as the air slowly escaped her the realization of this being the final moments of her life something she couldn’t accept. The grip tightened and she could feel herself slowly begin to lose consciousness, her futile attempts at resisting growing weaker and weaker. It was then she felt a warm liquid splash across her face, and the grip gradually loosen until being removed completely. A mixture of relief and confusion surged through out her body as she looked up to see what had caused her attacker to stop. A slow stream of red liquid poured down the man’s neck then there was a loud clap of gunfire and then another, her attacker now full of bloodied holes that rapidly expanded before unable to bear it anymore the man crumpled to the ground the flame of his life extinguished. Ainujra looked to the boy, both of his hands on the pistol shaking in a struggle to keep the weapon up. He just stood there his gaze not leaving the corpse of man he just killed. Ainurja couldn’t read his expression but she recognized that this must have been quite the moment for the lad.

Slowly she pulled herself up and walked towards the lad gently clasping her hands over his and retrieving the pistol from him. His gaze still fixated on the body, Ainurja placed another hand on his cheek and once again slowly and gently drew his eyes away from the body until they met hers. Time seemed to freeze and the two locked their eyes together planting the seeds of trust and mutual understanding. It was here in this moment Ainurja realized she couldn’t just discard the boy. For better or worse the two were now comrades united in their struggles and, through bloodshed, inseparable.  The boy slowly nodded in his own way acknowledging this new bond between the two.

Without a word more the two made their way towards the body. The man’s previous cries for help apparently drowned out by the fighting all around had thankfully allowed the two to be undetected by the others. The boy began searching the corpse while Ainurja kept a watch out, now thankful she had a weapon again unsure if she could endure another brawl.  After while the boy produced what they both were hoping for a set of keys with a small remote. Their method of escape. Pushing down on the lock door button, the two were able to make their way towards a small pick-up truck being sure to avoid any others and possible engagements. At last the two made it, the boy handing Ainurja the keys as he entered the passenger side door of the vehicle. Ainurja practically yanked the driver door opened and fumbled with the ignition. It was at this point that with the sound of an engine sputtering to life that others seemed to realize what was going on. By the time a couple of the thugs had managed to position themselves beginning to aim their rifles at the two escapes the engine of the old truck sputtered to life much to the relief of Ainurja. “Get down!” she ordered to the boy and without a single moment more hesitation she slammed her foot on the gas pedal. On of the Attackers realizing what was happening just barley manage to jump out the way, his fellow not so lucky the thud loud and audible. Ainurja didn’t bother to see what happened refusing to stop for anything. This was it. As she speed off the sound of the fighting grew steadily quitter until eventually they couldn’t hear it anymore. Eventually the fighting would die down and someone would come after them. Where the two were headed she didn’t know. She hadn’t really planned this far. All she did know was that they needed to put as much distance between themselves and the fighting as the could.

Pamak Detention Center
Second District, Dzunho
Days Past

The distant sounds of demonstrators shouting whatever chant they conjured could be heard in the distance. Their voices and subsequent response of KSG vehicle alarms and orders barked into megaphones seemingly reverberating through the streets of Dzunho and between the great edifices that nearly scraped the sky. The Second District, for the most part, had been sparred the utter turmoil of the Fifth district, yet as time had moved on that chaos had begun to spread out like a viral infection. The Second District seemingly, just recently, managed to attract the infection. Chugat wondered at how long it would take for the whole of Dzunho to mirror the situation of the Fifth District. He shuddered at the thought, such an idea was something he hoped to avoid. For now, at least, such a concept was not foreseeable in the immediate future. With this reassurance Chugat made his down the streets of the Second District.

Nearing his destination Chugat paused at a moment to observe a place many sought to avoid. A simple grey barren building, its height dwarfed by the surrounding buildings and thus being hidden away like an unwelcome blemish on the prized gem that was the Second District. It lacked any concept of identity that others in the city would hold. Not sign of deviation from the oppressive solid grey that made up its construction, even the reinforced fence that surrounded it did not deviate from this pattern of solid mundanity. Beyond this fence, was a seemingly alternative plane of reality the premises uncaring to events that surrounded; created with the sole concern of keeping those that inhabited in the edifice isolated from the rest of the city, ignorant of the world they were deprived of. Yet even Dzunho, it seemed, could not hide its marks of indignity from the world. The phenomenon of the young Kangzi had made certain of it, and seemingly invited the chaos which now flooded the Capitol city.

The process of entrance did not take long, such was the perks of someone of Chugat’s standing, and soon enough he was granted an audience with the individual of interest. He was led to a small rectangular windowless room, any concept of color seemingly unknown to this building or its inhabitants as the walls and floor shared the same dull grey as the outside. The only break of this repressive uniformity was the central set piece, comprised of a metal table and two chairs, one occupied one ready for Chugat. A fluorescent ceiling light was all that illuminated the room, leaving the corners to be filled with shadow while drawing all attention to the unfortunate soul confined to this Detention Center.

As Chugat made his way to greet the figure he couldn’t help but notice her wrists had the faintest of red rings, her hair had been cut short to the point of nearly having none at all save for the stark contrast of color that enveloped her head. It wasn’t until Cugat sat down and now face to face  was able to see the young woman’s face. What he saw caused him to wrinkle his nose in abject disgust. The barbaric carelessness of the so-called Wardens of this facility, to allow such neglect to befall the Knagzi or even worse be the cause of it, was something that conjured feelings Chugat could not rightly describe, but clearly were not pleasant. Such incompetence, neglect, perhaps it was only to be expected. Chugat studied the young woman for a moment, a feeling of pity for her and the situation she was in subtly given. With a simply wave of his hand, the Warden who had accompanied him left the two alone.

You are lucky, you know. Despite the current circumstances you find yourself in.” Chugat began in doing so producing a folder and a tablet on the table between them. Expectedly she said nothing, lost in her own thoughts perhaps? Or still showing a display of defiance?

“Many in the parliament are dissatisfied with the outcome of your ruling. Some would like to see you never leave this place, others have thrown around the idea of an…accident. We can be, finnicky about such things especially when they inspire wayward elements in our country. There are of course others. Those who disagree with the handling of your situation, some even admiring it.” As he said this, he tapped around on the tablet bringing appearing to open a saved video before placing it back down and then opening the folder.

“Ultimately, you are no criminal. Your actions, though rash and provocative, are only natural for someone as young as you. In this regard you reflect your so-called Pharaoh your Akasha…” he trailed off as he said this almost as if to reflect for a moment on all that had transpired, on all that had led the two to this situation. With a sigh he tapped on the tablet, starting the video and  lightly pushing it to young woman, ensuring that she could.

The video started off with a woman much like the one in front of Chugat, though notably the women in the video was Kopsjense. She was sitting in the corner of what appeared to be a holding cell hunched down so that her knees were to her chest. She appeared frantic almost hysterical her eyes darting everywhere unable to stay fixated for more than a moment. Her arms appeared to be all bruised up and down though weather from a blunt object or other means was unclear. It continued like this for some time, until the sound of a door unlocking and the heavy motion of the metal frame being propelled open caused the women to dart up and try to retreat further into her cell, only to back up into a wall. Two Wardens entered though cautiously, hesitating for a moment before one of them spoke the woman’s name.

“Nertok…” was all one of the wardens was able to get out. A high-pitched emotional scream blared from the women, Nertok, causing the tablet to ever vibrate so slightly. The two wardens recoiled at the sudden outburst but quickly regained themselves. The women just continued to scream trying desperately to retreat into the concrete wall behind her. As the Wardens approached closer and closer, thought hesitantly, the women’s shrill fear ridden cries turned to outbursts of vulgarities. Eventually the wardens made their move avoiding wild swipes by the women as they struggled to restrain her. One of them nearly had her constrained before she suddenly broke free a sporadic burst of energy giving her new resolve to resist taking wild swipes at one the wardens.  Rapidly of the other warden pulled out a taser pointing it at the women yelling for her to stop, yet she didn’t instead she only seemed to grow more furious at being threatened charging the warden with wide eyes and a loud otherworldly scream… the video ended there. Now the only sound being the faint buzzing of the ceiling light.

Chugat had seen the video many times, each viewing causing him even more and more unease. With a sigh, he retrieved the tablet, setting it aside while glancing at the young Clysperi that sat in front of him the video clearly had caught her attention though if she felt the same unease as himself, he couldn’t tell. Was it resolve that kept her from expressing herself clearly? If so, it was admirable. Perhaps, though, it was simply that she had no resolve left; no energy to express herself. He dared not think about what could possibly have happened to her in this soulless prison.

“This is the face of a true criminal. One who was sentenced to death for crimes far more heinous than your own. I show you this because I want you to see what could happen should you stay here. This woman, Nertok, was just as young as you just as defiant to authority.  That one of our people could ever fall to such depravity is both unsettling yet telling. The cause of her behavior was use of a narcotic; from Kodumaa I think. Even in this desolate edifice, the poison of the Kangzi world worms its way inside.” As he said this Chugat now brought the folder in front of her, she may not have been able to understand all the writing, but Chugat was confident she could understand the gist of the document.

“There are various individuals, such as myself, who seek to provoke a great change in our beloved country. To free this homeland of ours from the poison and rot of Kangzi influence. Their ideas, beliefs, hoisted upon us first by Rus, and now reinforced by the international world. Much like your own country my associates seek to retake the destiny of Kospje away from the international world and seek to forge our own destiny…” As he said this Chugat seemingly grew with enthusiasm at the prospect of his “free Kopsje” a small smile of satisfaction growing across his face. He let his words trail off again.

“Of course I suppose, you are not particularly interested in any of this. The reason I am here is simple, you are an unfortunate consequence of the things we seek to change, and so we now offer you a chance to make history, and more importantly for you to be free. This document will secure you release, it is the only thing really. As a member of parliament, I and others, are willing to sign this document to guarantee your release. All we ask is that you play a small part in our goal.” With this  Chugat waited, pen in hand, ultimately though it would be up to the young Clysperi to make the decision.

First Minister Absent

Masood al-Nour, the First Minister of Abuqiya and the country’s de facto leader has seemingly vanished from the public scene. The first Minister was last seen in an official address to the Qiyadi public regarding the developments of the Clysperi civil conflict, a conflict which has become a major concern for the Midaryane nation who shares a border with the war-torn nation. It is unclear why the First Minister has yet to make a public appearance since then, even to the people of Abuqiya who seem equally perplexed by the vanishing.

Prior to the disappearance the First Minister and officials aligned with the Monarch of the nation did appear to have disagreements regarding the unfolding situation in Clysperis. The ruler and his supporters sought to establish a humanitarian effort via “Refugee Centers” which would accommodate incoming Clysperi Refugees. The First Minister and his own supporters were opposed to the idea. Citing financial problems caused by the effort.

Government spokespersons have remained quiet on the topic. Though seeming to silently acknowledge the absence of the First Minister. The sudden vanishing of a prominent official has led to a plethora of speculations. From a discreet resignation on the Minister’s part to rumor of a political purge. Many are seeking answers to the alarming development within Abuqiya. Regardless of what may be the truth, the Government of Abuqiya appears to be continuing with business as usual. Discourse is underway regarding the possible appointment of a new First Minister in the country’s legislative assembly; the Supreme State Congress of Representation and National Interests (SSCRNI) .

For now all many can do is wait and speculate.

First Minister denounces foreign Intervention
First Minister Masood has decried New Derusmian lawmakers following a resolution by the government's legislature to support rogue general and warlord Nekhtou in his warpath across Clysperis. The motion announced by Derusmian President Ebston Feish calls for military aid  by the Derusmian Military to be sent to the Nekhtuo's forces which would bolster the Warlords numbers and strength.  First Minister Masood has criticized the motion as “jingoistic in nature”, citing the Administration of President Feish's seemingly military oriented policy. The First Minister has also voiced the need for concern of Derusmian support, calling it a possible faux-front to spread its own socialist ideals into Clysperis. Socialism was enforced upon Midarayne in Clysperis and Abuqiya during the Soviet domination of the two countries.

Terrorist Forces led by Nekhtuo currently control four major regions within Clysperis, with the most notable being along the northern border of Abuqiya, which incorporate the Clysperi cities of Torfu & Hesiken. In response First Minister Masood has called for the deployment of military forces to reinforce the border and contain the possible spread of violence into Abuqiya. Although no motions have been made to intervene in the conflict, the Government has labeled the so called “Clysperi Confederation” as a false state, recognizing Pharaoh Akasha Di-nh-mi-Re and her government as the sole legal political entity in Clysperis. Despite this opinions remain mixed within the fatherland with a survey's showing a majority of Qiyadi seeing the conflict as one which does not concern Abuqiya.

Refugee centers established in Khasut
Tzanjuk (governor) Sekhemre Djehuti and the people of the Khasut Federal Administrative Region praised the benevolence and mercy of Hakim Mujahid following a royal decree which would  establish the creation of Refugee Centers in Khasut and a temporary ease of access for refugees fleeing from Clysperis to enter into Abuqiya, specifically the FAR. Three refugee centers are planned to be established near the city of  Tjensyris and meant to take in an initial flow of refugees who have gathered near the northern border  hoping to escape the violence that plagues their homeland. The refugee centers are equipped to provide housing and basic medical care, while talks of implementing education opportunities are underway. Some among the State Congress have voiced disapproval of the action, citing a great deal of problems accepting refugees would cause. Most predominant being concerns of over burdening the national healthcare system. Others are opposed to incorporating foreign nationals into the Qiyadi education system, lastly there are major concerns of  rebel fighters utilizing the refugee situation for their own aims. First Minister Masood has been among critics calling the motion “Noble but naive, and certainly problematic”

King Heydar proclaimed “Eagle of Midarayne”
Hakim Mujahid and the State Congress have praised King Heydar Soter of the Seleucid Emirate proclaiming him an “Eagle of Midarayne” and defender of Midarayne. The motion was made following the King's announcement that foreign military vessels and aircraft would not be permitted to pass through Seleucid Airspace. The Hakim likened King Heydar's actions to an “Eagle standing against Vultures”, while the State Congress has proclaimed open support for the King's actions as an example for all of Midarayne to follow, in resisting foreign incursions in the region. Although the move comes unexpected as Pharaoh Akasha and King Hedyar have been seen to openly disagree with one another on various matters. It is a sure sign that Midaranye is indeed capable of cooperation something the Hakim has stated is “Paramount for the welfare of Midarayne”.

Progress on Refugee Centers Stalled
Two of the three planned refugee centers established in  the Khasut Federal Administrative Region have been completed with final necessities such as water and proper furnishings continuing to be installed. Together these Refugee Centers are predicted to accommodate around 1,500. Despite this progress on the final of the three planed Refugee centers has been drastically stalled causing alarm among some that the influx of refugees will overcrowd the two finished centers before the third can be completed, a goal that does not seem to be in the near future.

The Primary cause of this issue stems from a lack of funding, something that has now been openly stated to be “underestimated” by  officials of the State Commitee of Finance. The decree originating with the Hakim had passed the Supreme State Congress in a vote of 70-68 with six abstentions and was  outlined to be a joint effort by the Federal Government, Khasut Federal Administrative Region, and private entities. However when factors not taken into account surfaced, the Supreme State Congress announced its intention to draw support from the other Federal Administrated Regions.

Upon the announcement each Federal Administrative Region, was to address the motion in their respective governments. However contrasting to expectations the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region has been the only of the three to approve of the motion. In a narrow vote the Jericho Federal Administrative Region has ultimately opposed the motion with Governor Plenipotentiary Yocheved Kafni (of Jericho FAR) addressing the results:

“While a grave situation, one the people of Jericho can  understand, the people have made their decision. Know however, that the Clysperi people have our  condolences as they endure in these trying times”. The Governor's remarks make it clear that Jericho will not be supporting the Refugee Project, while also referring to the situation of 2014 in which the Kaiju virus caused a similar refugee situation within Abuqiya.

The Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region, similarly, has rejected the motion in a landslide vote. However the message from Krušezevac is starkly more frank. Governor Plenipotentiary Veljko Grgurović made a statement following the results:

“The people have spoken in a clear message. One that comes with no surprise. What we have here is quite simply an issue that does not concern Abuqiya. Is it a sad state of affairs? Yes. However  it is also one that could have been avoided. Why must Krušezevac be burdened with a solution forged by the failure of foreign powers?  Why should Abuqiya have to pay for the incompetence of the Clysperi government? Would we in Abuqiya stand for the intervention of foreign powers in our affairs? Then why should it be any different with Clysperis? This issue is one for the people of Clysperis to address and, so far, it seems they have made their concern's quite clear.”

Though frankly spoken words by the Governor, his message seems to resonate across Abuqiya with many openly demonstrating against the expected entrance of refugees. Concerns range from the bloating of the national healthcare system, to the negative impact an influx of  non-citizens will have on the economy. Representative Munisa al-Zadeh has made the concerns of her Qadaa heard within the Supreme State Congress:

“Say'ufal is not a large town, indeed it could hardly be considered a town at all, perhaps the term village is more suitable. Despite this, Say 'ufal has its purpose, it like many villages, Qiyadi villages,  comprise a fundamental component of our beloved country.  The people of Say 'ufal live simple lives. They wake up, attend the day's chores, come home for prayer and meal, and then retire to the night's activities. They do this with confidence that their children will be provided with stable education. That they can readily seek medical attention when needed. That Food will always be on their table. They live in confidence and content because Abuqiya serves Abuqiya.

How must I tell these families that this will no longer be the case? That the comfortable, albeit, simple and most importantly stable life afforded to them by our Abuqiya will simply...vanish? That the government they have trusted their hopes and lives too has now abandoned them, to serve others. Foreigners. People who are not even Qiyadi nor will contribute to our country, will be granted all of the luxuries of a stable life at their expense?....”

Just one of similar statements it paints a clear picture: The Refugee issue is a divisive one in Abuqiya. With both Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region and Jericho Federal Administrative Region refusing to assist in development in the Refugee Centers it is clear that the final of the planned Centers will not be completed anytime soon. Despite this the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region has voted nearly unanimously in support of the Refugee Centers. Kamyarmuj is comprised of Qiyadi-Tamorans and holds the largest Manist population within Abuqiya.

No statement has been made by the Hakim or Shura Council.

The Clysperis conflict continues to wage on with no clear end in sight. While progress has been made by forces loyal to the Pharaoh, the number of Refugees flocking to Abuqiya's northern border continues to grow.

***

Border is Further Armed
The Conflict in Clysperis continues with steady fighting, between forces loyal to Pharaoh Akasha and rebel groups collectively known as the Clysperi Confederation. With the Rebels holding firm ground in what is known as the Southern Regions of Clysperis, while the northern reaches of the country are firmly under the hold of Loyalist Clysperi forces. The conflict has largely been contained thus far, with Safrean, Vanora, and our own homeland continuing to bolster defenses along the Clysperi border. Despite this the Conflict has managed to garner the attention of outside forces. Something which the First Minister has stated as “becoming an increasingly troublesome and concerning development. A development which threatens the security of Abuqiya and Midarayne.”

The Socialist State of New Derusmia was the first of said foreign powers to openly announce their involvement in support of rebel forces. This was a move Decried by the government as a forign power seeking to re-implement socialist rule in Midaryane through proxy of a victorious Confederation.   However a new development in the conflict has seen a coalition of foreign powers involve themselves in Clysperis. The arrival of foreign military assets in Midaryane originates from an unexpected move by Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re. While a seemingly desperate plea to garner support the move has not been seen kindly in Abuqiya.  First Minister al-Nour has made a harsh statement criticising this development:

“Through out its history Midarayne has sought fervently to break free from the chains of foreign powers. We have done so with the aggression against Abydos, we have done so in the Great War, we have done so against the Soviet domination. Even in the modern age we have endured the hostile temperament of foreign powers against our region, be it the economic sanctions against Tamora, armed occupation in the Seleucid Emirate, or dictating domestic policy in Slava Lavosk.

Midarayne has endured, for it is the Midarayne Spirit to be free of the dictates of outside powers. We are a people who strive to forge our own destiny.  For this is the fundamental foundation of the Tajdid Idea, of the Qiyadi Idea. Yet, once again our beloved Midarayne is under-siege by the imperialist mandate of foreign powers seeking to make opportunity of the Clysperi Conflict.

The Pharaoh of Clysperis has been one to champion the sovereignty of liberation of Midaryane. To voice disapproval of foreign imperialism, to criticise the unwelcome intervention of foreign military assets. Indeed it had appeared as if Pharaoh Akasha equallly sought the liberation of Clysperis from the boot of foreign dictates. It is with this knowledge that now, with great regret, it must be admitted we are further from this goal than one could have imagined.

Pharaoh Akasha has done what many in Midarayne have opposed for years. She has gone against the very spirit of the Midarayne, taking action which challenges the very ideals of Tajdid, and the sovereignty of Midarayne. We now have foreign powers establishing military holds in Clysperi lands, and war navies parked in gulf of Safrean. All this at the discretion of the Pharaoh. It is an unfortunate reality that blind desperation has caused the Pharaoh to invite armed foreigners to our very doorstep. But it is one that Abuqiya and Midarayne must face.

The question must be asked however is this something Abuqiya can truly support? Can we tolerate the violation of the Tajdid idea, and the Midarayane dream? The answer is no. This Pharaoh has betrayed the trust of Midarayne, but the Qiyadi State shall not comprise our values for a false sense of security, we shall continue to sucure the sovereignty of Abuqiya and promote the greater liberation of Midarayne. Even if the north has abandoned this dream.”

Despite progress made by Self-defense Leagues in Clysperis southern region's, in combating and retaking once Confederacy held territories. The Government has issued an new order to bolster defenses along Abuqiya's northern border as a means “to ensure the containment of violence and protect the homeland from possible extremist actions”. The mention of extremist actions is in reference to an increasing number of detentions in Clysperi Refugees and citizens in the Khasut Federal Administrative Region found to be smuggling weapons from Abuqiya to Clysperis. Some have claimed the further deployment of military assets to the northern border to be excessive, noting the deployment of mobile missile systems and heavy armour.

Abuqiya to “temporarily superintend” the Clysperi Free Trade Zone Corridor
The statement comes following a vote in the Supreme State Congress over the issue which would see Abuqiya officials temporarily take over operations of the Clysperi Free Trade Zone corridor located in the Khasut Federal Administrated Region.  The Corridor was established in agreements made between Abuqiya and Royalist Clysperis officials during the onset of the Clysperi Conflict. Established in Khasut the Corridor is meant to continue the flow of goods from Clysperis to the rest of Midarayne.

Further Government statement has clarified that the measure is a temporary one which will continue until “the stability of Clysperis can be ensured”. Seen as one of the largest financial assets to Northern Midarayne, the government takeover has been stated to ensure the continuation of CFTZ's intended purpose while removing possible factors as dubious loyalties to affect the Corridors operations.

Some critics describe the move as a “desperate attempt, to preserve Abuqiya's economic situation” warning that the Government statement is vauge in what is considered a “Stable Clysperis”. Their criticism are not without warrant as the conflict in Clysperis has led to unintended consequences for Abuiqya. With tensions in the southern shores of the Kyne promulgated by aggressive action from the Empire of Paricambi and the Maori Terrorist State, the deployment of foreign military assets in the Safrean Gulf, and sanctions against Tamora, most of Abuqiya's avenues to international trade have effectively been severed. An increasing reliance on land trade has seen the government to take action in renegotiating trade policies with Vanora, Safrean, and Slava Lavosk. In addition a motion has been made to engaging in mining trade with Slava Lavosk which would include the development of, Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region's uranium industry.

Financial Assistance from Tamora sees Refugee Centers a Reality
Financial Assistance and cooperation with the Empire of Tamora has allowed progress on the Refugee project to progress seeing the completion of the third and final center for a swath of incoming refugees.

Imam Kamran Qanbari, Governor Plenipotentiary of the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region, has praised Tamora for its willingness to support. Equal praise comes from Sekhemre Djehuti, Governor Plenipotentiary of the Khasut Federal Administrative Region, who has stated the cooperation between the Empire, Kamyarmuj, and the predominately Clysperi shows “once again the inseparable camaraderie of Manists, the Clysperi People, and Midarayane”. Its been reported a similar written statement was sent to Emperor Abbas of Tamora by the young Hakim thanking both the Emperor and his countryman's efforts in support for the Refugee project and the Tjadid idea.

With all three Centers now open and operating as intended the process of admitting those seeking to flee the violence in their home country can now be carried out more effectively. However while the Project is fulfilling its intended purpose, accounts by those admitted paint a different picture to the Clysperi Conflict.  Yasmin Khouri is one such individual. Having arrived into the project three weeks ago with her two children aged four and seven, she says her reason for fleeing is not the violence of rebel forces nor the alleged tyranny of rebel leader Nekhtou. Instead Yasmin describes the rebels occupation of her small village as a “breath of fresh air, [a] feeling of true safety and liberty”. Something she says where absent under the banner of  Pharaoh Akasha:

“Under her [Pharaoh Akasha's] rules, my feeling of safety and especially of my children's were lessening. I'm a member of the Kemetic faith, and so are my children. We were targeted though because my husband voiced his disagreement with growing Manist influence. But that was it. He simply said he didn't agree with the the Manists, we never expected that would lead our family to become labeled as  racists or Manistphobic...”

Yasmin  continues to describe her experience explaining that armed men came to her families home setting it ablaze forcing her family to flee outside. Once outside the men brutally beat her husband and Yasmin as well. It was this and the subsequent brutal execution of Chaths Sarkis & Abasi Bahar, two Clysperi citizens accused of beating a Manist Practitioner, that led to Yasmin and her husband to flee to the south.

Other stories like this accompany the numerous refugees  each describing similar occurrences of Clysper Royalist's targeting themselves and their families. Umayma Malouf, another mother from the southern Regions of Clysperis tells her reason for fleeing being what she describes as the “Pharaoh's insane policies”:

“My husband's father served in civil-war. He [the father] worked with the soviets as a liaison to prevent unnecessary violence against civilians during the war. Civilians! He worked to protect the people who call that deranged woman Pharaoh! And despite his father now being dead my husband was accused of treason.” Umayma explains that local police without warning stormed their apartment complex on the orders of the pharaoh herself. Umayama's Husband was one of 527 people who were arrested on charges of collusion with soviet forces and sentenced to slavery. It wasn't until rebel forces took over Umayama's village that she was reunited with her husband. To Umayama the actions of the Pharaoh have struck wounds she can never forgive.

There are numerous stories like this from the incoming refugees once again calling into question how Abuqiya should address the conflict.

The Clysperi conflict
Rebel General Captured
A new dawn shines over the nation of Clysperis. A once war-torn nation split between Ideological differences, and instability of leadership, now sees a new era of potential peace in the land of the pyramids.  The rebel leader of the so-called Confederation of Clysperis, General and President Nekhtou, waged a bloody path across the nation calling into question the legitimacy of Pharaoh Akasha (Di-`nh-mi-Re) and the very foundation of the Clysperi political system. The conflict has raged across Clysperis of which the effects have been felt throughout the region. Through the efforts of a coalition led by the Pharaoh & the Royal Clysperi Army, with the support of the Tamoran military, and assistance of the by the Empire of Achkaerinese, Clysperi State Media now reports that the renegade general  and leader of the Confederation of Clysperis has been officially captured by coalition forces, effectively putting an end to the conflict.

The Future of Clysperis?
Though the prospect of peace is a comforting one the question remains. What will become of Clysperis, and what awaits the future of the nation? The long path of reconstruction is expected to begin with many new projects to recover lost infostructure expected to be among the top of priorities in the post war Clysperis. This news is to the relief of many displaced Clysperi who currently reside within Abuqiya, some of whom are more than ever eager to return to their now safe home a begin their life anew. However, others are less inclined to seek a path back to their home-nation.  While the end of conflict was met with festive enthusiasm across Abuqiya (particularly among Abydoni-Clysperi-Ibiaun communities), many among the Kemetic population are still divided on their views of the Pharaoh and the return to the status-quo. Some among the influx of Clysperi refugees, though fleeing the violence, welcomed the prospect of a new Clypseri political system and the ideals championed by rebel leader Nekhtuo, enshrined in the proposed Confederation of Clysperis state.

A new Pharaoh
Two months ago a new piece of the increasingly puzzling Clysperi situation was brought to light. An open address to the Clysperi people heralding the arrival of a new Pharaoh.  A young man around late 20 to 30 years of age known only by the name Ramose has proclaimed himself as the rightful Pharaoh of Clysperis in a public broadcast on social media.  Claiming to reside somewhere in Clysperis Ramose criticized current Pharaoh Akasha’s actions citing them as polarizing Clysperis into a negative light on the world stage.  Should he come to power Ramose also promises to enact political reforms which would see the transition of power from the autocratic Pharaoh to a division of equal authority between the monarch and an elected legislature. A similar system that utilized in Abuqiya.

It is this proposal and more ‘tame’ approach to the international stage that has garnered Ramose, support within the Supreme State Congress (SSCRNI)[1]. Heralding the possibility of a more “grounded leader” and “less antagonizing of the world community” factions in the SSCRNI have formed in support of the new Pharaoh, disillusioned with current Pharaoh Akasha’s “mishandling” of the current situation in Clysperis. To what avail these factions will prove remains yet to be seen. What is certain is that Ramose has support within Abuqiya for his claim.

SSCRNI: Potential recognition of Seleucid Cultist Enclave
The Supreme State Congress has been rife with debate and discourse over the past few weeks. The topic: Recognition of a Cultist State within the Royal Seleucid. For years Abuqiya has been staunchly opposed to the recognition of a legitimate cultist polity within the Royal Seleucid. The question of  Cultist legitimacy within Abuqiya (and to an extent the whole of Midarayne, from a Qiyadi viewpoint)  can attribute its origins to Ankub[2] scholar Khemsaibesheh. In his work “The Qiyadi Identity and Abuqiya Nation”, a socio-political and commentary piece which attempts to explain a common culture that cements the diverse populations of Abuqiya into a singular ethnic group.

One of the groups that was failed to be mentioned as apart of this common Identity was the Namist and Helusian Cultist population. Described as having an overwhelmingly xeno culture, unable to be reconciled with the rest of the cultural groups yet compatible with each other, Khemsaibesheh proposed the concept of focusing the Cultists populations into a self-contained region. The first concept of a FAR.

Though Cultists have a place within Abuqiya and Qiyaid history the community has often been viewed as the pariah of Qiyadi culture. However with the increasingly mutual relationship between Emir Heydar and prominent cultist officials both within the Royal Seleucid and abroad, the question has been brought up if it is time for Abuqiya to follow suit. With the consideration of future Seleucid-Qiyadi relations the SSCRNI has engaged in lengthy debate regarding the “Cultist Situation” cementing clear factions for and against recognizing the Cultist region of Royal Seleucid.

Split Views
Of note are an anti-recognition action lead by Ankub delegate Qibepet. Citing that recognition of the “Cultist occupation” gives legitimacy to the free will of foreign intervention within Midarayne, Qibepet and his faction have attempted to block any motion in favor of supporting recognition.  In contrast a coalition of delegates in favor of recognition, jointly lead by Helusian Marissa Rolande (delegate of the Cultist FAR) and Namist cleric Brother Caleb, cites the ability of Cultists to maintain their culture and achieve mutual coexistence in Abuqiya. Something the proclaim can be emulated within Royal Seleucid. They pro-recognition faction also cities increasing willingness of Emir Heydar, himself, to promote cooperation with Cultist nations.
Weather or not the recognition will be reality remains to be seen.

Memorial erected in Northern Abuqiya
A memorial in the town of  Sasi-Mesu in northern Abuqiya has been erected to commemorate the Clysperis refugee situation that has affected much of Midarayne. Utilizing minerals imported from Waddan, the piece features three figures meant to represent Clysperis, Abuqiya, and Tamora. Together these three personifications raise up a flagpole with the de facto Pan-Midarayne flag displayed. Below these figures, on the base of the monument, is written in the three languages of Arabic, Parthian, & Clysperi,  “Three Horizons one Dawn”.

Attending the reveal of the Monument was His Majesty King (Hakim, Effendi, Ḥaty-a, Şehzade) Mujahid accompanied by members of the esteemed court.  The monument is meant to honor the three nations efforts with the refugee crisis. In particular the cooperation between Clysperi and Qiyadi officials for ensuring the security of the border and preventing unnecessary violence or deaths against fleeing civilians. The monument also commemorates the efforts of Tamora and the assistance of the Tamoran and Manist communities in funding and establishing the Refugee centers. Something which has been described as paramount to the success of the Centers.

Spokespersons of the esteemed court also conveyed His Majesty’s personal message of gratitude to Shah Abbas, Mother of Tamora Lady Alya Safavid and Ayatollah Azad Arak for their efforts in seeing the Refugee Centers become a reality.

Abuqiya to boycott the Rugby World Cup

The State Congress of Provisional Representation and Interests, the state legislature of Abuqiya, has passed a motion to officially boycott the upcoming Rugby World Cup. The action comes after the announcement by the Mundus Sporting Committee that this year's games will be jointly hosted by the Kingdom's of Ui Cenneslaig and Cantabria. This action will be a continuation of criticisms by Abuqiya against what it claims is an “Armed Occupation” by Ui Cennslaig in what is the Celtic Protectorate of Royal Seleucid. First Minister Masood el-Nour made the following statement in regards to the motion and subsequent action:

“ While others may be willing to look past and perhaps even support the aggression of Ui Cennslaig against Midarayne, the Qiyadi will not be swayed by international fanfare to shirk our duty to Midarayne. To attend these games is to condone the imperialist agenda of Claith and dignify the armed occupation of the Seleucid Emirate by Ui Cennslaig...”

This action is one of  a continuing trend of Abuqiya forign policy which has been officially stated to be one of “hostility to imperialist action or agendas against Midarayne and Abuqiya”. Recent escalation in tensions between the Royal Seleucid and the Commonwealth of the Iwi have been met with an equally negative reaction by Abuqiya causing the Midarayne nation to denounce, suspend all diplomatic & economic activity with, and label, the Commonwalth of the Iwi as a rouge state. Abuqiya has also voiced disapproval of attempts by Ui Cennslaig to reach a diplomatic resolutions between the Royal Seleucid and the Commonwealth of the Iwi, citing the close relationship between the Celtic and Iwi nation with “no confidence” claiming to view such action with “suspicion”.

Abuqiya's continuing negative and critical views of Ui Cennslaig, have been dismissed by some political observers as unwarranted paranoia and saber rattling in an attempt to “flex its political muscle”. Others have cited the country's narrow view of the situations in particular regarding the the Celtic Protectorate as “dangerous rallying”. The Celtic Protectorate is currently housing Ui Cennslaig military personal following agreements with the Royal Seleucid and the approval of Seleucid King Heydar Soter.

Primear of Abuqiya criticizes "Aggressive Forign Policy"

In a recent statement during her monthly address to the State Assembly Premier Nahsrin Zarqan voiced open criticism of recent actions taken by the Bakkermaya Navy in response to ongoing tensions between the country and the Water Nomads of the Alucard sea.

"The Humsoo people, or as they are more commonly known the Water Nomads, are humble people. The lifestyles they lead is of llittle consequence to thier neighbours. One could even say their life is desirable. A simple one free of the stress and complexities which fester in the societies of many so called developed nations. One focused more towards the simple family values that have slowly withered away in many other societies. A hefty price to pay for the trait often labeled as 'Progress'

The question then asked, is why? What crimes have these humble drifters committed that warrent such fierce response as war and destruction that Bakkermaya has unleashed upon them? The simple action of living by their customs and traditions? Is mearly living a different lifestyle and embracing one's own culture now considered a crime?

Unfortunately this is not a new occurrence. Perhaps it is without surprise the true agressor in this unamed conflict, Bakkermaya, is devoted to the supposed virtues of the Cult of Helus. Abuqiya of course is no stranger to the aggression carried out in the name of this deity.
Least we forget our own trouble with this Cult in the previous decades. Nor should we forget the violation of the Seleucid Emirate, as invaders planted the flag of Helus on Seleucid shores. Now these invaders occupy a notable portion of the Emirate exerting the will of their true masters East Moreland and Bakkermaya, upon not just the Emirate but the whole of Midrayane.

To our Humsoo friends, know that while the world may fall silent on this issue, Abuqiya has watched and observed..."

The Premier later attributed the situation to an "increasingly aggressive forign policy", likening the situation in the Alucard to "another piece in the agenda of the Helusian Empire". Premier Zarqan and her administration have been known to hold a negative views of supposed imperialist actions. Her administration has also been known to deny that the Seleucid situation of 2016 was a genocide, instead holding firm to the view that it was indeed a hostile Coup d'etat.   Despite these seemingly hostile words and actions against forign powers the Premier insisted "Abuqiya seeks not to act hostile, only to ensure national sovereignty is respected. However this is an issue we will not remain silent on...".

While her statements have received positive reception in Abuqiya, primarily from members of her own political faction and citizens associated with said faction, not all are pleased with her statements. Siavash Boromand, a prominent member of the opposition in the Assembly, dismissed the Premiers statements as: "[a] strategy to distract focus from the domestic problems that ail Abuqiya. Problems her administration has been slow to address!"

Controversial image banned in Abuqiya

The picture above was posted on social media a couple days ago. It depicts a young boy sticking his tounge out at the viewer. He holds in his hands a paint brush and bucket filled with black paint. The attire he wears is the iconic regal attire of the late Qarhjii, or king, Khomeshahr of Abuqiya. On social media the picture is captioned and tagged with: "Stop the lies! Stop the oppression! #neverforget1987"

As of today the social media post has thousands of likes and shares nearing the millionth mark. It has also been censored and banned in Abuqiya. Persons in possession of a copy of the picture facing imprisonment for two years and a fine of 1,000 Dinars, the local currency of Abuqiya.

Why?

The picture is depicts the son of Komeshahr. The current ruling Qarhjii, Qazvimsahr who attained the position following the assassination of his father and other prominent members of the ruling family in 2016. The bucket of black paint, aswell as the tag "#neverforget1987" is a hommege to the Uhl-Buqyir decree of 1987 and subsequent years.  A controversial topic within the country.

During this period, a decree was called by Komeshahr for the expulsion or conversion of religious and ethnic minorities within the country. This prompted resistance from said minorities, most notably Cultists whom been awarded land grants in the country following the end of the Great War.

Black paint was used to identify the residences of those "deemed undesirable", according to the accounts of exiled Abuqiyans.

The aftermath saw the displacement or death of nearly 1.5 million  between the years of 1987-1992. Many international observers especially Human Rights groups have labeled the affair a Genocide. This something the Abuqiyan continues to deny and challenge this accusation, citing the death toll as a result of legal engagement against terrorist activity.

Regardless of which story is more agreeable the posted image sends a suggestive image; that the current boy king of Abuqiya will follow in his father's footsteps.  Local authorities are searching for the origin of the post. It is belived the image originated outside the country. The ruling family and their representatives have yet to make any  official statement on this incedint.

East Abuqiya, 1987

Relived to once again breathe in the fresh air of the open sky Yrahsa, allowed herself a few moments of relaxation taking in the warmth of the sun. Her work day was over, finally. She mouthed the word to herself careful not to make any actual sound. Melanor knew her employees would be less than thrilled of her actual thoughts about her career. Yes she may have beseech her father to reach out to her family friends to award her  with the position, but what else was she to do? 'Be honest and genuine during the interview, Frossaj will be with you my child!'. Yrahsa could still hear the encouraging, soft yet pleasant tone only a mother could conjure. Maybe she was right though. At least with Frossaj being with her that day. The Gods knew times were more complex now. Honesty was simply not something one could rely on anymore.

“Sorry mum, if only everyone had a gentle soul like you...” Yrahsa sighed herself. Minutes passed by soon feeling like hours, though only about twenty-five minutes had actually passed as she discovered glancing down at her watch. Odd. The trolley by no means was renowned for its punctuality, but twenty-five minutes? That had to be a new record. With another sigh, this time of annoyance rather than nostalgia, Yrahsa decided to take a step back opting for relaxation on one of the stone steps leading up to the building behind her. No point standing around forever. 'Marissa would approve? Stand my love, don't let your beauty be wasted on laziness'. Now the nagging voice of her father intruded on her mind. Why did they have to be so caring? She wondered to herself. Her parents were perhaps typical of those who bore only one daughter. She was after all their little 'dove'. Still, she couldn't help wondering if they'd be this nagging of Ali. Speaking of which when was the last time she spoke to her dear brother? Maybe a month ago, what was he up to? Yrahsa once again glanced at her watch, it was now thirty-two minutes. What was going on? She could hear the groans and quiet complaints of her co-workers sharing the same question.

“Well Ali it is then!” She thought aloud may as well visit her brother while there was still daylight out. Settled on this she hastily got up and walked along further down the street raising her hand to hail a Taxi. She could afford it, and it'd be good to get some peace and quiet anyway. For that she did envy her older brother, to be able to just have a calm morning once would be a blessing at this point. Instead she must endure the symphony of chaotic noise that permeated every corner of the city. If not for this job...

At last a taxi had managed to finally answer her hails, seemingly combating other money hungry drivers who now flocked towards the roadside to meet potential costumers. Another glance at her watch it was about four-fortyfive. If all went well she should make it to Ali's by five, give or take. Opening the taxi door, a plume of odor greeted her causing her to hesitate for a minute. It wasn't a bad odor so to say. Just noticeable and strong. It was hard to describe but typical of Taxi's a sort of mixture between smoke, old leather, perfume and BO all rolled up into one strange concoction.

“Salam, my dear!” the voice of a jovial driver snapped Yrahsa out of thoughts, ushering her into his humble vehicle with a half genuine-half  fake smile. Returning the smile Yrahsa entered the Taxi resting her bag on the far side of the seat, while reclining in the closest, satisfied to have the comfort of soft leather.

“Salam, can take me to Kumasil?” Yrahsa inquired fastening her seat belt. She was greeted with another smile, revealing the elderly drivers less than attractive teeth and an O-K hand signal. They were off Yrahsa noting the on goings of the city before it eventually faded into the background.  Readying her purse she fumbled around for the fee. Figuring the trip would be about twenty-three Dinars, she internally cringed as she pulled out the notes wondering if this was really worth it. No, no. For Ali any price was worth it she reassured herself. She re-assured herself, by now the two were well into the outskirts of the city, the ever familiar sea of brown making that clear. With nothing to really see Yrahsa decided to rest her eyes a little, asking the driver to awake her once they arrived. Another smile of confirmation and she allowed herself to descend into darkness staring off into the river.

                     ***

Yrahsa slowly opened her eyes stretching her arms out, or at least as much as the small interior of the taxi permitted. Finally fully conscious she glanced outside to see the sun was... gone? Surly they hadn't been driving for that long. Kumasil was not too far so why had the sun descend already? Hoping to garner and explanation she turned to the front only to notice the driver was also missing. Which means, they weren't moving. A sigh of annoyance left her mouth, then instinctively she searched around the backseat. Good nothing was missing. So then by Helus what was going on? In order to search for answers, or at least the driver she exited the vehicle the nip of the cold night engulfing her. For a moment she wondered if  she should go back to the comfort of the warmth. No. She needed to find out what was going on. Circling the car she expected to find the driver working on the car maybe a tire had gone flat. Once she made it to the other side she noticed an uncomfortable familiar sight. The driver was gone! What was going on. Was all she could think, before she noticed something off in the distance. People by the river. Should she approach? She wondered. Its not like there was any other option still this was too strange. Just as a precaution she searched into her purse before producing a small spray bottle of Mace.

As she got closer she could make out a group of four to six individuals and two vehicles one a sedan another a pickup truck. This was getting suspicious, maybe she should turn back. She would have to if it wasn't for the familiar figure of the driver. The sound of laughing and voices incoherent from this distance caused her much annoyance. Was this old man partying with friends? Did he really just forget about Kumasil?! Rejuvenated with a sense of frustration Yrahsa began marching towards the group, if anything she would at least get the keys so she could make the journey herself.

“Hey!” She said the tone of frustration clear in her voice. To this the group now turned to her. Good she wanted to give them all a piece of her mind. The level of unprofessional conduct was simply astounding to her. Now they were all within clear sight of each-other and that's when Yrahsa froze, terror now engulfing her body and cementing her in place. The group now moved closer to her. One who didn't was the driver. She realized the driver was mouthing something to her but what? Not that it mattered once the group was only a brief pace away form her, Yrahsa could do nothing but stare with wide eyes at the objects in their hands. Rifles, guns. The drivers message was clear, RUN.

“Salam, sister!” One of the men in the group spoke his tone friendly in demeanor but betrayed by the weapon grasped in his hand. Yrahsa didn't take long to react swiftly raising her arm and pushing down hard on the spray bottle releasing the painful toxins of Chemical in the mans face. The others were taken aback by this and hesitated as one of the men rushed to ail his friend. This gave Yrahsa enough time to flee. She didn't know where or how far all she could think to do was run. Her legs stopping for  nothing, even as she heard the voices of the men behind her yell vulgarities and commanding her to stop with false promises of no harm.
In the end try as she might, the human body could not outrun decades of craft and thought that went into the development of a bullet. Like the most terrible of thunder strikes the sound of a rifle ripped through the quiet night air. The impact of bullet to flesh made an excruciating squishing sound as it pierced her right leg. She stumbled to the ground letting out a wail from the pain. Now on the sandy ground of the unforgiving and uncaring desert all Yrahsa could do was stare with uncontrolled anxiety at her leg as red liquid oozed out of it freely. Blood, her blood. The sound of footsteps approaching no longer concerned her as now all she wanted was for the blood to stop.

“Search her!” One of the men commanded all sense of familiarity or mercy, weather fake or real, now vacant in his voice. As commanded she could feel the rough hands of others  carelessly turning her over patting her down for anything they cared for. One of them produced her Mace handing to the leader before having subsequently slapped of his hand.

“Get that shit out of here!”

The other continued to search her though he did so gently almost as if to make it as painless as possible. Curious why he choose to be so sensitive now, Yrahsa conjured enough strength glance at her captor. She was met with sad almost sympathetic eyes. Young eyes. The eyes of a boy, maybe no older than thirteen. Their eyes met for a short while causing the boy to hesitate for a moment before breaking eye contact. He produced a small carved wooden figurine which prompted a response form Yrahsa who  violently shoved the boy away from her causing him to drop the figurine.

“Oh come now lad! Can't even do a damn search right!” The leader said, before noticing the small wooden figurine. Curious he grabbed it and studied it noticing an unfamiliar figure wrapped in red cloth. His eyes widened with sadistic familiarity.

“Well I'll be damned. This, friends is exactly why we are here! This little wooden block, now reveals it all. We have here Gents, a bloody Cultist!” He announced motioning with his hands  towards Yrasha. She attempted to reach for the wooden piece mumbling something along the lines of give it back. The leader simply smirked at her titling a finger side to side. It was then that two of the group grabbed her by the shoulders and started to drag her towards the river. The pain in her leg was no longer a concern now numb. Instead her attention was to the old driver who appeared to be tied, and now blindfolded. Hearing the sound of dragging he began demanding the group to let Yrasha go.

“Patience, old man! Your time will come soon enough.” The leader said as Yrasha noticed the boy now  gagging the driver to silence him. Once again the boy and Yrasha locked eyes, only this time it was she who looked upon the child with sadness and a disappointment. He quickly looked down and headed towards the truck. By now She was near the river and the two men released her causing her to fall into the water engulfing her before she promptly regained herself holding herself up with her hands. A firm hand however held her head just above the water.

“Sister no we do this not out of hate, but out of necessity! You have been corrupted, sworn allegiance to false idols. Know that these so called 'gods', that this Helus is nothing but myth. An illusion to drive you from the path of righteousness, to lead you to the path of wickedness! I am here to save you sister, to bring you back to the light! Be cleansed let the water wash over you and wash your sin! Let Azhiran Guide you to the light!”

With that Yrahsa could feel the hand push her forcibly down. Water soon engulfing her, the world nothing but a canvas of blue.

“...behold the light of the new beginning. Let all those who are righteous be welcomed. Let all those who are consumed by wickedness, forever fester in the oblivion of their own corruption”

The realm of Achkaerin was a land most within Abuqiya had never truly thought of. The so called winter empire laying so far to the north many within Abuqiya would probably not even now it existed. Truly it was a what could be called a winter wonderland, the imagination of those who dared wonder hardly doing justice to the nation. The crystalline glistening white snow and forign yet exhilarating chill of cool air was an all too familiar sight and feeling to Parvaneh. Yet it all still seemed so exotic failing to loose its entrancing properties each time she was graced with arriving in these lands. The Annual pilgrimage to Valthiem was perhaps one of Parvaneh's most treasured excursions, each year imposing an increasingly flourishing appreciation for the arts, masterful creations of the young artists, and the awe at such talent that was present each.

In truth her first invitation to the event had hardly piqued her interest. While it was true she was what could be considered a patron of the arts she was not exactly artistic herself. It was a talent she admired but could never seem to engage in herself. Something that had internally torment her to great lengths. Still on a whim perhaps conjured by obligation or boredom she had allowed herself to read the contents of the first invitation, subsequently enduring the grueling process foreign travel and planning and braved the discomfort of a climate and country so foreign to her it had caused her illness on her first journey. Yet she would have done it all again in a heartbeat. So she did.

This would be her fifth year partaking in the event, and despite setting aside nearly a week of her time to enjoy the metropolis of Valthiem she had yet to truly familiarise herself with the city. Each trip had opened up new avenues of exploration, new surprises around each corner, and certainly new acquaintances and friends to be had. Certainly Azhiran had guided her to a treasure trove of adventure and excitement in the Holy Empire. Prior to making her way towards the Royal Art Gallery, Parvaneh had allowed herself an hour to prepare and groom herself. To her own disappoint it seemed to be the only true artistic ability she possessed. She had decided to dawn the typical attire of her homeland, perhaps from a feeling of homesickness or maybe as a means of representing the fabric based artistry Abuqiya was known for. Either way she carefully fitted the large semi loose fitting dress, a culmination of meticulous movements wrapping the fabric around herself to emulate the shape of a dress. Finished at last she observed her work in the mirror hoping the green satin dress accented by silver colored embroidery would complement her appearance. in addition shw wrapped a head scarves around her hair ensuring to conceal all of it. There was really no mistaking her for anything but a foreigner, her caramel brown skin, and dark brown eyes a clear contrast to the more common features of this land.

Now Parvaneh had found herself at the entrance to the Royal Art Gallery, once again admiring the architectural beauty that comprised the exterior of the edifice. She allowed a smile to stretch across her face illustrating her excitement for this years exhibitions, and a sense of familiarity as if she had reached her home away from home. Soaking in the architectural design of the building for a few moments more, Parvaneh allowed herself to approach the entrance. It was here the sixty year old waited for a few moments hoping to meet the familiar face of either Amelia Whitaker or Robert Howcroft. Two individuals she had come to see as friends, fellow enthusiasts.

Escaped Slaves Returned to Tamora[/center]
Marhluk, Abuqiya

Protests have erupted in towns through out western regions of Abuqiya along the Tamora border in response to the deportation of thirty-seven individuals believed to be runaway slaves from Tamora and the detainment of seven nationals of Abuqiya and Foreign origin . The thirty-seven, as reported by local law enforcement, were smuggled from Tamora into Abuqiya presumably to be absolved from their servitude in Tamora. Occurring within the early hours of the morning the thirty-seven, including families and children, were transported via costumised cargo trucks across the border. Stopping in the border town of Marhluk the operation was discovered by local law enforcement whom engaged with the smugglers after citing fraudulent licensee plates. Upon their discovery the thirty-seven where detained by law enforcement the following day before being subsequently deported to Tamora following identification.

Following this incident many locals within Marhluk took to the towns streets gathering in front of the law enforcement building in protest to the action. Protests have involved civil disobedience and vocal attacks or criticisms against the authorities and in particular the Tzanjuk (a regional executive)  Qamsaroud, who is believed to have authorized the deportation. The Tzanjuk made the following statement in regards to the situation;

“The situation is this, several individuals have illegally trespassed into the territory of Abuqiya with out the approved authorization of either authority in Abuqiya or Tamora. Thus it is my duty and the duty of our brave law enforcement, in accordance to our sacred oath to the Qarjiyat, Supreme State Assembly, and Abuqiya itself, to enforce the laws of our country. The question of whether slavery is or is not morally right or wrong has no basis in that regard. Azhiran guide us.”

Despite mass protests in Marhluk and neighboring border towns voicing outcry against law authority and the Tzanjuk, Qamsaroud was granted a  Faqib (a decree of sorts) by the Qarjiyat, and Supreme State Assembly in “commendation for upholding of the laws and ensuring the security of the state”.  Seven of the accused smugglers have been detained by law enforcement. It is belived that these smugglers are apart of an abolitionist group known as the Faraj.

The Faraj, takes its name after an individual of Abuqiya folklore. According to the tale Faraj was born into slavery after his nomadic tribe was subjugated by the city state of Uyareg. Faraj would lead his people in a rebellion against the leaders of the city-state and become the new leaders. Now the symbol and namesake of the abolitionists group, the Faraj have been noted for engaging in abolitionist activity including smuggling of runaway slaves. The groups motto “Azhiran guide us! Faraj free us!” has become a popular saying among supporters of the group. Despite their renown the Faraj have been labeled a terrorist group due to violent clashes with law enforcement some resulting in fatalities. The Government of Abuqiya has thus far tolerated open support of the group requiring investigation before detainment of suspected Faraj affiliates, however there have been motions to clamp down on all forms of Faraj support.

Statement on the Slava Lovask Situation

The powers which seek to address the Slava Lovask situation with hasteful action, actions which are misguided, aggressive, and hostile not just to the nation of Slava Lovask but to the entirety of the region, are inadvertently only furthering the damage and decay of Mid-Aranye. It is without question that any nation which perceives itself threatened from a hostile power will take drastic measures to ensure the security and sovereignty of their own nation. The actions taken by Slava Lovask are evident of this. It is curious that the powers which clamor for a nuclear free Mundus are the very nations who posses or have possessed such nuclear weapons in the past with a similar reasoning; and while it may be perceived as extreme to those ignorant of the state of  affairs within Mid-Aranye, in truth it highlights as to how decayed and fragile the status of Mid-Arayne truly is.

As such it is once again with great regret that the region of  Mid-Aranye must find itself at the mercy of intrusion by foreign powers. Blockades, threats of military action, and deployment of military assets are not the answer to the situation only further tension to an already strained station. While it is true the utilization of nuclear based weapons is an  alarming action capable of dire consequences, the interference of foreign powers and their threats to the sovereignty of a nation acting within the interests of its own security is equally alarming capable of its own consequences. However it is not just Slava Lovask who must now endure hostile action of foreign powers but the entirety of Mid-Arayne whether directly or inadvertently. The economic security of Mid-Arayne is now at risk of its own intrusion. Not all nations are blessed with access ease of access to maritime trade. A fact many seemingly overlook in their approach to foreign policy. The Lavosk situation once again reaffirms this presumption.

The situation of Slava Lavosk has only added to the culmination of the chaos that  is sweeping the region of Mid Arayne. Chaos that cannot be solved by aggressive action, rather must be addressed by open and true diplomatic discussion. It is thus that Abuqiya supports the motion for an open forum to further discuss the situation at large while urging all hostile action economical or military halted until said diplomatic discussions are to be had.
