Gjengfasthet Albrektberg wins basketball KLB Cup

Gjengfasthet Albrektberg defeated Damer Amvkhar in the final to win the 2021 KLB Cup, the second most important trophy in women's basketball in Jugland.

Although Damer Amvkhar had defeated Gjengfasthet Albrektberg by 77-73 in a balanced match on March, this time the team from Albrektberg did not give any option to their rivals, particularly after the second quarter, in which the team from Emrta ended nineteen points behind. The final result was 92-65 for the Albrektberg club. Judda Rutsen, who scored 29 points for Gjengfasthet Albrektberg, was elected MVP of the final.

Thhe KLB Cup is played between the top four teams of the KLB (the top division in women's basketball) at the half of the season in a one-match tournament. This season the KLB Cup was held in Midtenstadt for first time.

Princess Mildgyd addresses Emrta state assembly

Princess Mildgyd attended and addressed a special session of the state of assembly of the State of Emrta, in which she asked directly questions from the members of the assembly. This time, she had to face harder questions that she did in her previous address to Emrta's constitutional convention, particularly by National Democratic Party and other left-leaning representatives.

Notwithstanding, many representatives seemed satisfied with her intervention, in particular those from the Autonomous Movement for Emrta parliamentary majority, and between the most supportives, the representatives from the Solidarity and Convergence group.

Governor Oppegard has declared that, following the deliberations of the members of the state assembly, is his intention to promulgate the Basic Law of the State of Emrta, which in accordance with the state constitution, will develop the clauses inspired by the Charter of Amvkhar, and enforce it as soon as it is possible.

As a cosnequence, Princess Mildgyd is posed to be first member of the House of Welhaven-Goltzam to become a constitutional monarch without formal executive powers.

Federalists to lead state government in Nordansk

Othmarr Storstein, the candidate of the Federal Democratic Party, became the first governor of the State of Nordansk, after he received the support of the National Democratic Party. He also received the support of three representatives from the Reform Movement and one representative from the Liberal Party.

Although the conservative candidates were the most voted, obtaining 21 of 51 seats, they failed to obtain the required 26 seats. Sigeweard Faeravaag, leader of the Social Initiative, has declared to be disappointed with the attitude of the Reform Movement, and expressed the concern about the weakness of the new state government, as Storstein will have to rely in either the support of the National Democratic Party or the conservative opposition to pass any legislation.

Storstein has confirmed that he will lead a minority government, but declared that they will work hard to safisty the needs of the citizens of the northwestern state. The composition of the state government has not been announced yet, although Storstein has been open to join his government other political forces, such as the Reform Movement and the Liberal Party.

FDP-NDP state agreements in two more states

A new agreement between the National Democratic Party and the Federal Democratic Party has arisen suspiction and criticism by both the opposition and even others parties of the ruling coalition. The Federal Democratic Party representatives decided to abstain in the Vannesdal state assembly, despite being the second larges political party in the state assembly.

The move will allow Bertha Gundersen, the candidate of the National Democratic Party, to become the Governor of Vannesdal, leading a minority government, and it was seen as a payback for NDP support of the Federalist candidate in Nordansk. However, the leadership of the Federal Democratic Party has justified the decision a move to assure the stability in the state, declaring that the Federal Democratic Party will remain as main opposition party to Gundersen's government. Despite the criticism, the leadership of the Federal Democratic Party has denied that a similar agreement could be in the making in the neighbor state of Midstendal.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Party will consolidate their influence and power at the state level, as NDP candidate Wighardt Bergersen became Governor of Austland, with the support of the left-wing Workers Democratic Party and an independent representative in the state assembly.

Nordheim club wins basketball SuperCup

In a surprising and unprecedented final, Nordansk Nordheim defeated Stalskap Anlebaek to win the 2021 Basketball SuperCup.

Neither of the clubs were exactly favourites, as they are currently 8th and 7th in the regular league season, respectively.

Nordansk Nordheim had defeated the clubs from Midtenstadt -who leads the league classification with six wins more than Nordheim's club- in the quarterfinals, and Albrektberg, another of the favourites, in the first semifinal. Meanwhile, the club from Anlebaek had defeated Amvkhar Basketball in the other semifinal.

The match was balanced until the final quarter, in which Nordheim reached an advantage of twelve points. Anlebaek tried to react in the final minutes, reducing the final score to 77-75, with a triple in the final seconds, although it was too late and Nordansk Nordeim could celebrate their third title in their history.

Reform Movement join state governments in Midstemsdal and Vestmark

Despite their disappointing results in the state elections, the Reform Movement consolidated as the third largest political party nationwide.

The Reform Movement was started as political movement under the administration of Eadwald Engelsaas, the second and last President of the Provisional Government. The ambitious aims of the Reform Movement were never matched, as many believe that although many voters remain a positive view on Engelsaas and his government, including current Foreign Minister Burkhardt Kvalheim, the military and technocratic background of their main representatives have failed to gain the trust of the average voter.

This has led to many in the movement to question their participation in the federal government, and even the leadership of Secretary Kvalheim. In the last days, however, the agreements signed following the state election, in which the Reform Movement will enter in the state governments of Vestmark (in a coalition government with the Federal Democratic Party) and Midstemdal (in which a governemnt with the Federal Democratic Party, the Reform Movement, and the Liberal Party was established), will likely -at least eventually- fade away that internal divisions.

However, despite this, the future for the movement will likely remain unclear as -unlike the conservative Social Initiative, which remained the largest political party in the state of Nordansk, even if failed to obtain enough support to form a government- the Reform Movement has been reduced to a minor political party through the country, failed so far to be an alternative to the the two main political parties.

In any case, it is not likely that Reform Movement will leave the federal government or change it course until next Autumn, when it is expected that they will held their second party congress.

Princess Mildgyd is proclaimed Grand-Duchess of Emrta

Princess Mildgyd was proclaimed Grand-Duchess of Emrta in a ceremony held in the state assembly of the State of Emrta - which, according to a law passed earlier this week, has been officially renamed as "Grand-Duchy of Emrta". Despite this unusual decision and the change of name, the legal status of the region has not changed constitutionally, and the islander region will remain under the authority of the Juglander constitution of the Federal Union of Jugland.

Mildgyd, 33, is the daughter of late King Engelhardt III and his second wife, therefore being also the stepsister of King Khrym, who abdicated in 2020, only six years after being crowned as King of Jugland. The choice of Princess Mildgyd, as a member of the House of Welhaven-Goltzam -as the state constitution of Emrta established an elective monarchy under Jugland's constitution- was contested by some, particularly republican activists, the National Democratic Party and other left-leaning organizations, as King Engelhardt -several months after three ministers from the pro-republican Juglander People's Party joined the government- dissolved the parliament and forced a constitutional amend which enlarged his powers as monarch, which many believe to be one of the main contributing factors that led to an armed conflict in the country five years later. Despite this, however, the election of a regional monarch from another family did not seem to find much support neither between the public opinion nor the main promoters of the reestablishment of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta, which had been abolished after the establishment of the short-lived Republic of Jugland in 1901 but it was restored following the restauration of the Kingdom of Jugland in 1906.

The Grand-Duchess, unlike previous Juglander monarchs, was the first member of the House of Welhaven-Goltzam, to pledge loyalty to the constitution -as part of the ceremony in the state assembly-, and she will be also the first constitutional monarch without executive powers, as the executive powers of the state government are consentrated in the state government led by the Governor.

The current Governor is Amalberaht Oppegard, from the Autonomous Movement for Emrta, who obtained a clear majority in the recent state election in Emrta.

Emrta, although it has only 2,360,000 inhabitants (compared to Jugland's 59 million), is the state with the highest GDP per capita of the six states that comprises the Federal Union of Jugland, and with its capital, Amvkhar, has a high importance as economic center as well as culturally and historically in Jugland's modern history.

Freedom Party elected new leader

Faramund Stubberud surpringly defeated Wigburg Aarseth, acting leader since the resignation of Hubert Ibsen, to become new leader of the Freedom Party in the party congress, held in Albrektberg.

Stubberud, who unlike Aarseth and his other rivals for the party leadership, is not a member of the National Assembly, managed to win the second round of vote by 57% of the Freedom Party delegates.

He was recently elected to the Emrta state assembly, being the only Freedom Party member elected in the recent state election.

Stubberud promised to give voice to all Freedom Party members "in every state institutions we're currently present", in order to defend Jugland's "national sovereignty" from both the federal government and separatist forces. While Stubberud had a more pragmatic attitude on some issues -such as calling to work through the federal framework and more centrist platform in some social issues compared to the other candidates- it is not likely that the increasingly controversial attitude of the Freedom Party in the National Assembly, in which they have opposed to cooperate with other parliamentary groups, will change. Stubberud ended his final intervention promising to become "the only real opposition to the current coalition" and calling to "fight against the liberal elites...and for the common man". He also promised to defend the "honour of our organization...against defamers, liars, and traitors".

As well as electing a new leader of the party, the delegates also proposed and voted amends to the party platform. At the end of the party congress, the delegates also held a ceremony in honour to Ragnbjorg Herbjornsrud, founder and leader of the Freedom Party, who unexpectedly died in late 2020.

The Senate, in its first bill passed since the recent state election, approved and ratified a treaty signed between the Federal Union of Jugland and the Kingdom of East Moreland.

Although the treaty had already entered into force and it was law in Jugland, the bill is aimed to strengthen its implementation.

49 of 55 members of the Senate voted for the agreement.

Grand-Duchess Mildgyd signs agreement with federal government

Grand-Duchess Mildgyd, in her official decision after being proclaimed as the head of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta, has signed an agreement in which the House of Welhaven-Goltzam, Jugland's royal family, will be officially abolished as well as number of properties officially owned or exclusively used by members of the royal family in the past, would be granted to the state and federal government, as part of an agreement between Grand-Duchy of Emrta and the federal government. This agreement will not apply, however, to the properties that members of the royal family had bought during the years with their annual assignation. It is expected that those propierties transferred to the state and federal government will become museums or historical buildings protected for their cultural value. The agreement will not be valid for those residences or buildings or properties that the Emrta government may grant as official residence for the Grand-Duchess and her family.

The same decree will also establish the Office of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta, new institution whose primary function will be to provide aid and support to the Grand-Duchess of Emrta in the exercise of his official duties and prerogatives, to function as the grand-duchess's executive office. The Office of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta will completely funded by the annual budget of the state government. Heimarr Gustav Skram, who previously served as Deputy Secretary of the Office of the House of Welhaven-Goltzam, was appointed as Secretary of the Office of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta.

This newspaper was not able to obtain a formal answer about other members of the House of Welhaven-Goltzam, including former King Khrym I and other direct and indirect members of the royal family.

Surprises continue in the 2021 Football Cup

Elite League leaders Nordansk FK suffered to qualify in Hamarrland.

With other top clubs such as FK Albrektberg and Amvkhar FK knocked up in the Juglander football cup in the previous round, Nordansk FK -which is currently leading the Elite Football League with four points ahead of the main rivals FK Albrektberg- hoped to keep their options to win the "double championship", that is, winning both league and cup the same seasons.

However, they had not it easy in their visit to Hamarrland, as the local team, SK Hamarrland was winning 2-0 before the end of the first half, until Strasberg scored a penalty kick barely a few minutes before the 45'. Despite this, SK Hamarrland -currently 11th in the Elite league classification- did not put it easy until Morgensen equalized in the minute 76 and Strasberg again scored again six minutes later. This ardous recovery will allow Nordansk FK to advance to the semifinals.

In the other match of the day, Ngeninta FK defeated SK Nordheim in the penalty knockout.

Yesterday, IK Grimborg easily defeated FK Sandberg 4-1, confirming its status as surprise star in this football cup, after having defeated SK Midtenstadt and the favourites FK Albrektberg in the previous rounds. Two teams from the second division advanced to the semifinals (IK Grimborg and Ngeinta FK), a feat that wasn't witnessed in nineteen years. Meanwhile, SK Albrektberg would be the other Elite Football League team in the semifinals, after they easily defeated SK Gronenheim in the other cup match yesterday. Despite their good season in the Elite League, SK Gronenheim offered a poor resistance and lost 1-3 against the Albrektberg club.

National Assembly confirms date of coming by-elections

Bernhardt Krohg, Speaker of the National Assembly, has given green light so that the four pending by-elections to replace four members of the parliament can be held the same day. Krohg argued that this would allow to save resources and time to the election authorities.

Between those seats to be replaced is the one who belonged to former President of the Provisional Government Eadwald Engelsaas, who resigned last month, in a northern Albrektberg district. The other two seats belonged to representatives from the conservative Social Initiative coalition, one in Nordansk and a second in Vannesdal, while the fourth is another seat in Midstemsdal, from a representative from the Freedom Party who resigned after announcing disagreements on how his group was dealing with criticism regarding legal investigations to members of the organization suspected of ties with radical groups.

The four by-elections are scheduled on June 20th.

Military service to be abolished

The National Assembly passed the National Defense Reform Act, which will abolish the compulsory military service and military conscription. The law was passed by a 312-19 vote. The law will also eliminate limitations on gender in the armed forces, and reform the internal code of conduct of the armed forces, as well as restricting military courts to judge civilian offenses.

Secretary Osgard Rimfeldt, despite having expressed their doubts about the complete abolition of the military conscription earlier, declared that the law will strengthen the armed forces and be a "resolute step toward the modernization and professionalization" of the Armed Forces.

The National Defense Reform Act will not immediately abolish the military service, however, as the ongoing military training will continue, but the Ministry of Defense will stop authorizing new enrollment communications, and those who are expected to join the military service after October 27th will be exempt to do military training if they decide so.

Authorities worried about mysterious disappearance of bees

Large parts of the country, particularly in the eastern regions, have been surprised by an unexpected and unprecedented event: the disappearance of bees.

Local authorities and conservationists have observed that around 70% of wild bees, as well as other similar especies, have disappeared in several provinces in the state of Austland. According to a study, in a particular rural area nearby Konndal, the number of wild bees which perished in the last months could be as high as 90%, compared to a estimation for the same period in the previous year.

Experts seem to be alarmed about the potential extinction of these small but important beings in the area, a situation that hasn't being witnessed in other states and regions of the country. The causes are still unknown, with the introduction of new pesticides and recenty warmer temperatures than average considered as possible hypothesis, although it is difficult that such causes would explain such big regional differences in this phenomenon.

It is not the ecological dimension that concerns both authorities and local communities, as this situation could become in an economic disaster for the region as well. Bees are the most important pollinators of many of the fruits and vegetables that are consumed by the public. It is considered that of the most of the crop species that provide 90% of the food supply, the majority of them are bee-pollinated. Although the impact could be reduced given the fact that, particularly in the northern provinces, there is a larger proportion of legumes in the local agriculture in Austland compared to other Juglander states, the impact could be still considerable.

Although wild bees are not the only animal species that seem to be affected by this sudden and mysterious environmental crisis, agriculture workers and companies in Austland are concerned about which effects could be had in the coming harvest season, which is due to start from July to November for the main vegetables produced locally.

The Department of Agriculture has announced that several measures have already been considered and planned, such as the introduction of bees in those affected areas, as well as sending scientific researchers to the regions affected. However, it is unclear if such measures will be possible at such large scale, and if it could have positive enough results in the short-term.

Austland state government has promised the creation of a fund and state subsidies to agriculture workers and companies that may be affected for this situation.

Austland and federal governments divided on water shortages

Local organizations have protested against the water shortage in more that fifty towns in the state of Austland.

The water shortage was caused by technicall problems, according to the Department of National Resources and Environment.

The management and control of the water resources is a competence of the federal government, while state governments have exclusively competences on the distribution of water and control of the sewage systems, which the decision to cut the distribution of water -announced on Friday- has created tensions and division between the federal government and the Austland government.

Unlike the federal government, the Austland state government is composed exclusively by members of the National Democratic Party.

However, Governor Wighardt Bergersen had a more conciliatory tone in his speech this morning, declaring that they are offering all means at their disposal to the federal government, in order to solve this problem as soon as possible. He also offered to visit Midtenstadt in the coming days, in case that was necessary for a quickly improvement of the situation regarding the management of the water resources.

Austland facing water shortage in supermarkets

Following the decision by the federal government to continue with the water stoppage in six provinces in Austland, along the official recommendation by the Austland government to not use tap water for neither drinking or cooking, supermarkets in the region have failed to guarantee their supply of drinking water, causing shortage of water as the consumption demand increased.

Local media and national television have showed many images of long queue of consumers to buy the last supplying of drinking water, as well as empty shelves of water and other drinking products in many supermarkets and local shops. In some cases, the inality of suppliers to met the demand of drinking water resulted -in a few cases- with chaotic scenes and verbal disputes.

Meanwhile, in other nine provinces in central government the Austland government authorized the reestart of the supply of water supplying to houses through the municipal system. However, the recommendation that they could use said water for taking a shower or washing dishes but keeping provisionally the recommendation that not to use for drinking, has not calmed down most consumers.

Secretary Edda Stordalen has announced that the such measures are likely to continue for the rest of the week, and apologize for any inconvenience. She, however, insisted that both the federal and Austland governments are working as hard as possible to solve this situation.

"Other regions, as such as [Austland's] provinces and towns unaffected by those measures, should not worry about the service of water supplying", she declared, calling citizens to avoid "unjustified panic", and continue with their lives as usual, and following the authorities' recommendations.

She also announced that, following a meeting with the Austland state governmetn scheduled this afternoon, the federal government will address the nation in order to clarify any doubts the public may have about the current situation.

Trial on failed coup d'etat starts in Albrektberg

Although Jugland has been making headlines worldwide as consequence of the recent water shortage in Austland, the national media has been busy this morning with a rather different event. That is, the start of the trial against the failed military insurrection in Albrektberg and Midtenstadt aimed to depose the constitutional government of the Federal Union of Jugland.

Because of the dimension of the case and the large number of suspects (more than 200) is expected that the trial will be a long one, however, which may last weeks and even months. Germund Garborg, Federal Attourney General, has declared that, despite this circumstances, he is confident that the trial will be successful and that truth will be discovered and those responsible behind "this vile attack against our democracy" will be punished with "the fair weight of the law".

The trial will be held in the High Court of Albrektberg, by a team of three judges. It is expected that the first witnesses and suspects will not testity until next week.

National Council announces national commission on Austland environmental disaster

Secretary Grimwaldyna Nygaard, during a debate in the National Assembly, announced that the National Council will appoint an independent commission of experts to investigate the recent environmental crisis in Austland. She declared that the members of the commission will be soon confirmed and that, in any case, they would do their job without the interference of the National Council. She confirmed that, although the nominations are likely to be selected by the National Council, they will be open to cooperate with the National Assembly, the Senate, and particularly with Austland government so they can nominate any member to the commission, with the only prerequisite of their experience and qualification for the task assigned.

The commission of experts proposed by the National Council will work independently from the already established parliamentary committee appointed in the National Assembly, which will consist in a group of members of the parliament, selected by their own parliamentary groups, with the assistance of technical experts. The commission of experts will produce a final report which be addressed in the National Assembly but, unlike the parliamentary committee on the same issue, their work until that final report will remain confidential, in order to protect the work and integrity of their members.

It is expected that, Secretary Nygaard declared, that the commission will be formed by highly qualified Juglander professionals.

A noble Exodus

The establishment of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta has caused an increase amount of emigration of people from families that held nobility titles in the Kingdom of Jugland to move to the islander region from other Juglander states or even coming back from abroad.

The National Assembly abolished all nobility titles in recent months, and as consequence Juglander nobility loses all their privilegese (mostly associated to an exemption in inheritance taxation) and their higher status. Although the abolition of the titles did not affect their wealth (with the exception of the state of Austland, in which the federal and state government paid an economic compensation of the seizure of lands during the war, with most of those lands destined to infraestructure projects or sold for the development of agriculture in the region).

However, the Grand-Duchy of Emrta, which state constitution grants the Grand-Duchess -with the approval of the state government- the power to assign new nobility titles, has given hope to many former nobility families to have restored -at least at a symbolical level- their lost status, with their titles either restored or given new ones.

The Office of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta, has confirmed that the Grand-Duchess will use that power with resposability and in "accordance to Juglander and Emrta legislation", although they have not released any plan of which could be the first people benefited and how they process will work in practice.

However, many nobility families have already established in Emrta, as well as hiring law firms so they can lobby in their behalf with the Emrta government, so having their nobility status restored.

Kvinne Cup held in Emrta

The Kvinne Cup, which aims to become one the most important women's tennis championship in the continent, started last weekend, with participation of both Juglander and foreign players. Between the players invited, there were several with considerable experience as top contenders in the Mundus Games in the past. The Kvinne Cup is held in Amvkhar, capital city of the Grand-Duchy of Emrta.

This afternoon, Iduuna Juul defeated Bertha Petersen, to become the only Juglander player who will be in the quarterfinals. Both players had faced each other in the Juglander Open final, which resulted in a win by Petersen in three sets. Today, however, Juul was able to take her vengeance and defeat Petersen by 5-7, 6-3, and 6-4. Juul's aggressive baseliner style was more effective today, remembering when the young player surprisingly defeated veteran Walhafryda Henie, main favourite to win the Juglander Open, in the quarterfinals back on February. Earlier this week, Henie lost against Centralian Delilah Wainscott, leaving Juul as the only Juglander representative in the next round.

"I know that I will have the support of the fans again and I'll do the best I can", Juul declared. "I won't be easy but I'll give the best performance I can offer".

Federal government announces aid package to Austland

Secretary Johannes Skouen announced a $500 million federal aid to the State of Austland, to assist immediately the most affected areas by the recent water shortages and environmental crisis.

He explained that the aid will be the first one of a package of assistance. More than half of the aid will be directly managed by the state government in Austland, while the rest would be given to a joint fund, in which the federal and state government will cooperate for a long-term recovery of the region, particularly in relation to the discovered contamination in several provinces in the state.

It is expected that in the coming weeks and months, the federal government will destinate more money to said fund, as well as other complementary measures for the recovery of Austland.

Green Party obtains seat in the National Assembly

The number of political parties in the National Assembly will increase to 12, after Emmeline Kolseth, the candidate of the Green Party, won the by-election in the Albrektberg district that had previously belonged to Eadwald Engelsaas, former President of the Provisional Government.

Kolseth was a previously a member of the Federal Democratic Party, serving in their federal leadership until last April. However, she resigned as she disagreed with some of the policies adopted by the current ruling coalition, which was joined by the Federal Democratic Party, particularly in the areas of energy and environmental policy.

In the last state election, Kolseth was elected to the state assembly of Midstemdal, running as a candidate of the Green Party, which was founded only in late April. Two weeks ago, Kolseth was elected as General Secretary of the Green Party and, following internal consultation, decided to run in today election. She has declared that she is sad of not being able to finish her tenure in the state assembly, although she promised that she will be the spokesperson in the National Assembly for those who want "a more plural and clean voice in the federal parliament". Militants and sympathizers of the Green Party have been particularly active protesting in the last weeks against recent environmental and water shortage in the state of Austland.

Meanwhile, in the state of Vestmark, Asbjorn Soyland, former MP from the conservative Social Initiative, was elected in the second of the four by-elections held today. Soyland run as an independent candidate, in one seat replacing a Freedom Party candidate who resigned for disagreements with the new leadership of the party. Soyland himself also resigned two months ago, as he disagreed with the leadership of the conservative coalition, which he deemed "too uncertain and moderate" on certain issues. Soyland, although running as an independent, was endorsed by the Freedom Party, as their candidate withdrew from the race ten days ago, considering that their candidate had not real option to keep the seat, as he was fourth in most polls, considerably behind Hraban Tolsend, candidate of the Federal Democratic Party, and Soyland, in order to avoid that the seat ended going to the ruling coalition government.

Soyland did not mention directly the Freedom Party in his victory speech, although he declared that he will willing to work with all political forces that are willing to offer a true alternative to the current federal government. It has been speculated that Soyland may join the Freedom Party parliamentary group, even if keeping his label as independent, mostly to assure for himself more participation and visibility in the National Assembly sessions.

The other two districts that held a by-election today, which were held in the states of Nordansk -to replace another Social Initiative who resigned- and Austland -to replace a deceased independent MP-, will require a second round, as federal electoral law requires that if the leading candidate fails to win at least a 40% of the vote on an individual constituency, a second round between the two most voted candidates will be required. The second round of both districts will be held in ten days. In both by-elections, the leading candidates were from the Federal Democratic Party, who will face a candidate from Social Initiative and National Democratic Party, respectively. In case of winning both seats, the number of MPs for the FDP could increase to 103, only four behind the largest political party in the National Assembly, the National Democratic Party.

However, neither of the by-election result will have a likely result on legislation passed in the National Assembly, as the current ruling coalition in the National Council has a more than comfortable majority in the National Assembly.

Agriculture employers opposed to "unnatural products"

Hraban Solberg, chairman of the Confederation of Industrial Organizations, has called the federal government to not allow the recently announced innovative products from Abstergo to be sold in the future in Jugland.

"Not only those products would pose an obvious risk to health", Solberg justified, "but a serious threat for the survival of local economies in Jugland and other countries...This new technology, if it ever becomes a reality, it is likely to be expensive, driving small agriculture producers easily out of business, easily giving a few big corporations control of a market that today gives employment to million of workers and families".

Solberg gave these opinions while participating in an economic conference held in Albrektberg, which gathered representatives from Juglander companies as well as local politicians.

In his intervention, Solberg also called the federal government to increase spending and subsidies for employers and producers in Austland, which are facing a complicate financial situation, he argued, as consequence of the recent environmental disaster in that state.

Supreme Priestess commented on food controversy

Gottwyna Waldys Astrup-Wassmo, Supreme Priestess of the Order of Werden, who visited Midtenstadt for a second time to join a religious conference as part of the Gjenfodelsatten festivities, briefly weighted on the recent world controversy regarding the aimed commercialization and expansion of synthetic dairy products by a Rokkenjima corporation.

While the Supreme Priestess declared that she has nothing to comment on health safety questions, she declared that she viewed the controversy more as a sympton than a problem.

"Modern life has become so sanitized that we are detached from nature", she declared. "This self-importance of the individual, this cult to the self, has turn on life on its head. When we forgot our vain existence for a second and we look at it again, we feel disgusted about life itself. The truth is that we were merely born from the rotten fruits of the Tree of Life. We are only a faction of the whole, and it is not our task to demand the circle of life to obey our abstract notions. All things are connected and we can not escape this natural flow, even the most powerful men of Mundus will decompose as well, joining that circle, sooner than later".

Asked if she would herself eventually try such products, if they were eventually commercialized in Jugland, the Supreme Priestess joked that "I don't think that tissue can be purified...So I'd say that's very unlikely", in a clear reference to centuries-old tradition in the Order of Werden, Jugland's largest religion, that explictly bans clergy to eat any animal product from animals which were not ritually slaughtered as part of a religious ceremony.

Kimmo Peltonen wins 2021 National Road Race

Kimmo Peltonen won the 2021 Jugland National Championship after an unexpected finish.

The young Juglander rider was not between the favourites but surprised his main rivals in the main group with a surprise attack in the last kilometres.

When some of the riders from the main group tried to react, it was already too late, and although they would be able to reduce his lead considerably, Peltonen's pursuers arrived eight seconds after he crossed the finish.

Peltonen, aged 25, had joined the Bargen Group Team this season, his third as a professional cyclist.

Adalwynda Naess-Schjelderup elected as Workers Democratic Party leader

Adalwynda Naess-Schjelderup was elected General Secretary of the Workers Democratic Party, a left-wing socialist party with currently two members in the National Assembly.

Naess-Schjelderup, 36, obtained 69% of the vote defeating Hubert Peura and Ortwyna Laine. The result was not exactly a surprise, as she -unlike her two rivals- was the only candidate with a seat in the National Assembly and she had been endorsed by Gerlach Knudson, the other Workers Democratic Party MP in the National Assembly.

The Workers Democratic Party was established in late 2020, as the merger of mostly three left-wing organizations: the center-left Progressive Radical Party, the Workers Communist Party (a Marxist-Leninist political party), and the Revolutionary Labour Party, a far-left political party based in eastern Jugland. Naess-Schjelderup, who had been elected to the Constituent Assembly as a candidate of the Progressive Radical Party, may be for some a stranger choice, as she comes from an aristocratic background.

Along the election of a new General Secretary, the Workers Democratic Party, in their Extraordinary Congress held in Konndal, also voted to amend their national platform, with a large majority supporting the proposal to declare "Democratic Socialism" as the official ideology of the party, with the aim of "establish socialism through peaceful and democratic means". The Workers Democratic Party also agreed to hold a congress at least once every three years.

Although, with only two MPs in the National Assembly and only elected in two of the six Juglander state assemblies, the Workers Democratic Party is not expected to have a huge impact, in her speech, Naess-Schjelderup promised to keep fighting for the people of Jugland, and consolidate and expand to become a left-wing alternative to the current federal government.

Causes of environmental disaster under investigation

Gaufryd Wygene, Chief of the General Staff of the United Juglander Armed Forces, while denying any knowledge of the reports about the Armed Forces involvement in the water and environmental contamination in Austland, has offered to testify in the parliamentary commission established to investigate the disaster, after several political spokespeople asked for either an immediate explanation or even his resignation.

General Wygene also declared that he has ordered an internal investigation on this issue in the armed forces, offering all his cooperation to both the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, Germund Garborg, Federal Attourney General, has announced that a criminal investigation has been opened, after police found what it seemed to be parts of a military airplane nearby the site of the likely source of the contamination, according to a team of investigators that has been investigating the disaster for a few weeks. He declared, however, that analysis and checks are being done, and until those are finished there will not be more public annoucements about the course of the investigation.

Secretary Osgard Rimfeldt also confirmed that the Department of Defense already opened their own investigations, shortly after leaked reports on the investigation was published in the media.

Agreement on judiciary appointments

After weeks of negotiations, the main Juglander political parties have reached an agreement for the remaining judiciary appointments, which will enlarge the number of judges in the Supreme Court from 11 to 15, and the Constitutional Council from 5 to 9.

The Juglander Supreme Court is the highest court in the Federal Union of Jugland, having the power of judiciary review in all cases except those regarding constitutionality. The Constitutional Council, in the other hand, has the only competence to determine the constitutionality of acts and statutes made by any public body, federal, state, or local.

However, the appointments will barely change the balance of the two judiciary bodies, although consolidating what experts have declared a "centrist core", and a much more liberal-leaning judges, at least compared to the high courts during the Kingdom of Jugland.
