The Imperial Fusanese Naval Landing Corps
大扶桑帝國海軍上陸部隊
Dai-Fusō Teikoku Kaigun Jōriku Butai

Headquarters: Ministry of Defense Building, Shinkyō
Commanding Officer: Marshal Hideyuki Azumaya
Active Members: 130,200
Reserves: 32,000

The Imperial Fusanese Naval Landing Corps, often referred to as merely the Marine Corps or by its abbreviation, NLC, is the maritime land force service branch of the Imperial Fusanese Armed Forces responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations through combined arms, implementing its own infantry, artillery, aerial, and special operations forces. The Naval Landing Corps is one of eight unformed services of the Empire of Fusan. Formerly a direct part of the Imperial Fusanese Navy during the Great War known as the Special Naval Landing Forces, or SNLF, it was reorganized by act of the Diet in 1954, although it would not see action until the 1960s during the Kalasinese War. The IDNLC operates installations on land and aboard sea-going amphibious warfare ships around the world. Additionally, several of the NLC's aviation squadrons, primarily Marine Fighter Attack squadrons, are also embedded in Navy carrier air wings and operate from the country's aircraft carriers. As of 2023, the NLC has approximately 130,200 personnel in active service and 32,000 in reserves.

The Imperial Fusanese Coast Guard

Headquarters: Shinkyō, Fusan
Commandant: Natsuki Tsukada
Personnel:
   Active Duty: 37,000
   Reservists: 9,000
   Auxiliarists: 26,000
   Civilians: 5,722

The Imperial Fusanese Coast Guard was established on the 18th of August, 1950, as an independent organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice. Prior to its establishment, coast guard operations were mandated for the Imperial Fusanese Navy, but with the change in role for the Navy in the aftermath of the Great War, this duty was made the core of the IDCG. It received its first ships that same year, and over time it has continued to grow.

Ranks and Insignia of the Imperial Fusanese Armed Forces

The Armed Forces of the Empire of Fusan has used a wide variety of different ranks since its inception in 1868 (as did its predecessor). Each branch, other than the Space Force, makes use of different rank insignia, however they share many features across most variants of these insignia. Common elements include cherry blossoms, which are prominently used to distinguish the ranks held by commissioned officers, as well as stripes on enlisted uniforms for similar purposes. It is worth noting that the Air and Space force make use of virtually identical insignia when used in their service dress and shoulder slips, however they are distinguished by the background color, which is a shade of the uniforms used by those branches. Furthermore, the ranks of Dai-Gensui (Grand Marshal) and the five-blossom ranks across the service are virtually identical.
The insignia used can be found here and here.

Project Suirō, also known by its alphanumeric designation, P-18943.1, is the term used to describe the Imperial Fusanese Navy's program (developed by Negishi Aerospace) to develop a ground-effect vehicle for the purposes of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare. Compared to other GEVs, it is designed to have VTOL capabilities and inflatable pontoons, allowing it, in theory, to operate from even the harshest environments on the planet. Its wingspan, larger than the standard for a vehicle of its type, are intended to allow it to be capable of flying like a normal aircraft as well, thus leading to some viewing it more as a hybrid of an Ekranoplan and a normal aircraft. The vessel will be capable of aerial refueling like a standard aircraft.

Special Operations Command
特殊作戦司令部
Tokushu Sakusen Shirei-bu

Headquarters: Mugi AFB, Tsuruga Prefecture
Commanding Officer: Gen. Isamu Akikawa
Deputy Commanding Officer: Adm. Daisaku Hasekura
Vice Commanding Officer: Lt. Gen. Yoshiharu Kamibayashi
Active Members: Classified

The Imperial Fusanese Special Operations Command (特殊作戦司令部, Tokushu Sakusen Shirei-bu), alternatively IDSOCOM or simply SOCOM, is the unified combatant command charged with overseeing the various special operations component commands of the Army, Navy, and Air Force of the Imperial Fusanese Armed Forces. The command is a part of the Ministry of War and is, at present, the only unified combatant command established by act of the Imperial Diet. SOCOM is headquartered at Mugi Air Force Base in Mugi, Tsuruga Prefecture. As a concept, the Tokushu Sakusen Shirei-bu has existed in the minds of planners for decades, being proposed as early as 1954, however, it was only in 1986 that the Imperial Diet formally approved a motion to establish it.

IDSOCOM, since its establishment, has been involved in clandestine activity, such as direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, unconventional warfare, psychological warfare, civil affairs, and counter-narcotics operations. Each branch has a distinct Special Operations Command that is capable of running its own operations, but when the different special operations forces need to work together for an operation, IDSOCOM becomes the joint component command of the operation, instead of a SOC of a specific branch.
Organization

Soldiers of the Teishin Shudan (挺進集団, Raiding Group), c. 2019

IDSOCOM is divided into a number of subordinate commands, one for each branch of the Imperial Fusanese Armed Forces, with the exception of the Imperial Fusanese Space Force. These organizations are in command of each branch's special forces groups, and typically operate independently of each other, except for cases where deemed necessary to complete a given mission's objectives. Furthermore, two additional commands exist that are under the direct jurisdiction of IDSOCOM rather than being subordinate to the various branches of the Imperial Fusanese Armed Forces. These commands are as follows:
    Joint Special Operations Command:
Joint Special Operations Command (合同特殊作戦司令部, Gōdō Tokushu Sakusen Shirei-bu), often abbreviated as JSOC, is a component command of IDSOCOM charged with the study of special operations requirements and techniques to ensure interoperability and equipment standardization, planning and conduction of special operations exercises and training, and the development of Joint Special Operations Tactics. JSOC is responsible for numerous units, with the most notable being the Central Readiness Force (中央即応集団, Chūō Sokuō Shūdan).
    Army Special Operations Command:
TBA
    Navy Special Operations Command:
TBA
    Air Force Special Operations Command:
TBA

Branch: Imperial Fusanese Army
Type: Infantry Division
Size: 19,000
Garrison/HQ: Camp Shikabe, Shikabe, Shinkyō
Nickname: "Vanguard"
March: "Be Prepared"

The Imperial Guard, formally the 1st Imperial Guard Division (近衛第一師団, Konoe dai ichi shidan), is a division within the Imperial Fusanese Army. Formed in 1867, it became the foundation of the Imperial Fusanese Army after Emperor Keiō assumed all powers of state during the Keiō Restoration. The Imperial Guard, which numbered 12,000 men and was trained along Achkaerinese military lines, first saw action during the Tottori Rebellion in 1877. It was, at that time, organized into the 1st Guards Infantry Brigade, which had 1st and 2nd Regiments. The 3rd and 4th Regiments belonged to the 2nd Guards Infantry Brigade. By 1885, the Imperial Fusanese Army consisted of seven divisions, one of which was the Imperial Guard. At that time, a division consisted of four regiments containing an HQ and two battalions each. The Imperial Guard division was based in Shinkyō and was recruited on national lines; officers, likewise, were drawn nationally. Following the annexation of Tsukishima in 1908, the decision was made to recruit a second division from among the indigenous peoples on the island; the Dalseomin were, however, initially excluded from this policy. In 1920 the Guards Cavalry Regiment, Guards Field Artillery Regiment, Guards Engineer Battalion, and Guards Transport Battalion, plus other Guards service units were raised, adding to the overall ORBAT of the force. From 1937 to 1939 the Guards Engineer Battalion was expanded into a regiment as was the Guards Transport Battalion.

In July of 1939, the division was split into the 1st and 2nd Guards Brigades. The 1st Guards Brigade, which contained the 1st and 2nd Guards Infantry Regiments, the cavalry regiment, and half of the support units, was transferred to the Ardian Peninsula. Here, it became known as the Mixed Guards Brigade. In October 1940, it joined other Fusanese and Allied forces in the Rio Blanco Offensive. The Mixed Guards Brigade returned to Shinkyō in early 1941, however, it did not rejoin the Imperial Guards Division. The 2nd Guards Brigade, which contained 3rd and 4th Guards Regiments, also went to the Peninsula. In 1940, it was stationed in the north of Toshikawa, where it helped provide security as well as briefly engaged in fighting in the latter half of the year. In June of 1941, the 5th Guards Infantry Regiment joined the 2nd Guards Brigade, with it becoming the Imperial Guard Division again. Later in the year, it was transferred to Kalasin, where it served under Haruichi Matsukawa's 17th Army. In June of 1943, all designated Imperial Guard units were renamed again. The Mixed Guards Brigade in Shinkyō became the 1st Guards Division (which now consisted of the 1st, 2nd, 6th Guard Regiments) and the Imperial Guard Division became the 2nd Guards Division. The 3rd Guards Division, which never left Fusan, was formed in 1944. It consisted of the 8th, 9th and 10th Guards Regiments. The 1st Guards Division was deployed to the Satsunan Islands as part of Operation Ni-gō in August of 1945, where it played an instrumental role in liberating the islands.

Following the Great War, in part due to measures to cut expenses, the Imperial Guards Divisions were downsized, with the 2nd and 3rd Guards Divisions being inactivated on the 18th of April, 1946 and the 3rd of March, 1947, respectively. At the same time, the 1st Guards Division was renamed the 1st Imperial Guards Division and its recruitment expanded to include Tsukishima and Paechon. It would largely be relegated to guarding the various residences of the Imperial Family as well as members of the Imperial Family themselves, a role which was supplemented by members of the newly-established 301st Military Police Company starting in 1955. The 1st Imperial Guard Division was called to serve during the 1st Kalasinese War starting in 1967. During the war, the Guard's role in protecting the Imperial Family was temporarily entirely relegated to the 301st, while the Guard became known as the first full division to arrive in the country. It would see fighting throughout the war, where it served with distinction, and it would be the last division to withdraw from the country on the 15th of November, 1976. The 1st Imperial Guard Division would resume normal duties starting in 1977, with this remaining the case until the modern day, with the exception of 2017, when it would once again be deployed to the Mathilda Channels. It was reorganized once again in 2011 as part of the Division Modernization Program (DMP), where it became classified as a Light Division. To this day, the Guard has served Fusan and its Emperors with distinction, earning its place in history.
Organization

The 1st Imperial Guard Division consists of the following elements: a Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHB), two Light Brigade Combat Teams, one Mobile Brigade Combat Team, a Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF; armored) Battalion, a Division Artillery (DIVARTY), a Combat Aviation Brigade, an Engineer Battalion, a Protection Brigade, a Division Sustainment Brigade (DSB), and Division Sustainment Support Battalion (DSSB).
Equipment
Generally speaking, the 1st Imperial Guard Division uses the same equipment as any other unit in the Imperial Fusanese Army, however, there are some pieces which are worth noting. The 1st Imperial Guard was the first unit to receive the Type 81 Assault Rifle in 2021, which replaced the older Type 49 which entered service in 1989. It also maintains a stockpile of Type 96 Semi-Automatic Rifles for ceremonial duties. Due to its nature as a "Light" Division, the Imperial Guard is equipped with the Matsui Light Tank, typically numbering around 42 units of it at any given time, alongside a number of other vehicles of the type. Infantry Battalions are furthermore provided with the Type 76 Victor and Type 72 Unmanned Ground Vehicles, as well as a variety of unmanned aerial vehicles to provide ISR and light strike capabilities. As a result of past efforts to modernize the military, the Division, like all in the Army and Naval Landing Corps, is capable of deploying unattended ground sensors which can link with existing ground and air assets to provide a comprehensive "view" of the battlefield, although with the Guard, such capabilities are rarely used outside of training.

GFCON - The Ground Forces Communications and Operations Network
The Ground Forces Communications and Operations Network (GFCON) is the Imperial Fusanese Army's contribution to the Ministry of War's Sentinel information transmission and processing network. It consists of all globally interconnected, end-to-end set of Army information capabilities, associated processes, and personnel for collecting, processing, storing, disseminating, and managing information on demand supporting warfighters, policy makers, and support personnel. It includes all Army and Ministry of War (MoW)/Joint communications and computing systems and services, software (including applications), data security services, and other associated services. GFCON exists to enable the warfighter through Mission Command. Other Fusanese service equivalent efforts to GFCON include the Imperial Navy's "NAVCON" (Navy Communications and Operations Network) and the Air Force's "AFCON" (Air Force Communications and Operations Network).

GFCON is essentially the combination of the set of functional applications (for mission command, Intelligence, Logistics, etc.), transmitted over integrated network transport (space, airborne, terrestrial, infrastructure, network terminal), utilizing a common set of network services (voice, data, collaboration, mediation, storage, discovery, messaging, speed of service, quality of service, hosting, IA/Security, NetOps - information assurance, information dissemination management, and network management). GFCON also represents the Army’s unified, coherent network capabilities development effort to bring the pieces together. GFCON, in its current form, came into existence around 2018, however it was officially established in the early 2000s.
BCTNet - The Brigade Combat Team Network

An important part of GFCON is the Brigade Combat Team Network, commonly abbreviated to BCTNet, which consists of five layers that deliver data to forward-deployed Army units. BCTNet possesses the adaptability and management functionality required to maintain pertinent services. The BCTNet is capable of dispatching targeting and other coordinating data to Navy and Air Force components for total force integration in the battlespace. Provided below is an overview of BCTNet's five layers, organized from the "top" down:
Sensors and platforms layer
Sensors are the hardware and software that provide the Army with the ability to "see first" and achieve situational awareness and understanding of the battlefield. The sensor layer soldiers to detect, identify, and track both enemy and friendly systems and to survey the terrain around them. The intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors are integrated on most manned and all unmanned ground vehicles and are capable of accomplishing a variety of missions. Unmanned Aerial Systems such as the RI-11 are able to maneuver to an area of attack, with the onboard sensors providing surveillance of targets and terrain, among other functions. In addition, two types of unattended ground sensor systems, the Tactical Ground Sensor (TGS) and the Urban Ground Sensor (UGS), can be linked to BCTNet. TGS provides intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance awareness to Brigade Combat Teams and other units, while UGS supports clearing operations in confined spaces and urban chokepoints. All sensors on the BCTNet are connected to a Common Operational Picture. This "COP" provides a soldier with a good overview and understanding of their battlespace.
Applications layer
The applications layer is responsible for providing the integrated ability to assess, plan, and execute network-centric mission operations using a common interface. It consists of ten software packages known as Battle Command applications. The combined capabilities of the Battle Command software packages enable full interaction among BCTs and provide the ability to understand the battle situation first. Understanding first is the ability to see patterns, understand the enemy's concept of operations, his scheme of maneuver, and then exploit his decisive points and vulnerabilities. The applications layer provides the ability for cross Battlefield Functional Area (BFA) problem solving and decision aiding capability for all brigades and below echelons.
Services layer
Infamously referred to as the "System of Systems" in the mid-2000s, the Services Layer, officially termed the System-of-Systems Common Operating Environment (SoSCOE) provides interoperability with existing systems, intra and inter platform networking (including e-mail and web services), data services and information assurance, and search capabilities. The Services Layer also contains administrative applications which provide capabilities including login service, startup, logoff, erase, alert/emergency restart and monitoring control. It enables straightforward integration of separate software packages, independent of their location, connectivity mechanism and the technology used to develop them. SoSCOE has three different variants: Micro Edition, Realtime Edition, Standard Edition. Multiple editions allow SoSCOE to meet performance, scalability, portability, and interoperability requirements of future platforms.
Transport layer
The transport layer is the telecommunications layer. It provides the radios and computers to process information. It improves force communication limitations because it is primarily embedded in the mobile platforms and moves with the combat formations. The transport layer provides ground, aerial, and space communications across the battlefield. It allows information to move seamlessly between BCTNet-enabled equipment and soldiers. The BCTNet communications network consists of a three tiered transport layer: terrestrial, airborne, and space. Inter-Service Tactical Radio System (ISTRS) Ground Mobile Radio (GMR) and Handheld, Manpackable, Small Form Factor (HMS) radios running two transformational waveforms, the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW), and the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW). Both radios are also capable of select legacy waveforms to provide current force and Joint interoperability.
Standards Layer
The standards layer is the foundation of BCTNet and provides governance for the network's implementation. It also describes how sensor data from other sources can be used by BCTNet. This ensures that BCTNet-enabled components will work together properly. Conformance to these standards permits seamless interoperability with combined and coalition forces for all National Security Systems (NSS) and Information Technology (IT) systems.
