New Education policy causes protests

Protests erupted throughout the country today in response to a new education financial policy passed within the state congress. The new policy primarily concerned with outlying a new financial plan for the country wide education policy, has been the Couse of newly arisen criticism by many of Tuetonic-Ibueri, due to the planned implementation of dropping Teutonic language courses as a core subject. This particular action in the poliucy has been the cause of the mass protests primarily in the southern regions of the country. The protestors have voiced their objections claiming the policy to be a further promotion of what they deem a “cultural genocide”, in a prolonged “ethnic agenda” targeting them in favor of the Oscani populace.

One protestor, Claudia Höffner a mother of two, was present at a protest. When asked about her reasons Mrs. Höffner explained “This is more than just about simple grievances about language, this is a concentrated effort to erase us [Teutons] from Ibueri as a whole. First it was the church taxation acts, then the removal of the flag of Teutonia from the capitol building. Now they target our very language. If we don’t act now, then when will it stop? We are just as much Ibuerian as any Oscani!”

The Taxation acts Mrs. Höffner mentioned is reference to another congressional bill passed in 2007 requiring religious institutions of all kinds to pay a property tax to the central government. Yet another bill was passed in 2011 requiring religious institutions to pay a further income tax on their earnings. It is estimated that the majority of Teutons in Ibueri are active practitioners of faith, whether it be Abrahamic varieties or pre-adrian, Teutonic folk faith.

The passing of the new education policy is not without reason however. According to Congressional spokespersons, the resoning for the removal of Tuetonic language courses is attributed to the status of its practitioners as a whole; the continuing decline of the Tutonic population, largely due to emigration west into Daito-administrated Andred, and other regions abroad, in addition to the decrease of native Tuetonic speakers though out the country due to interregional demographic changes, has caused the Tuetonic language to fall below the required threshold to maintain its status as a regional language.

Congresswomen Luisa Alonzia made the following comments regarding the situation. “In an ideal situation we could cater to all language groups and cultures within the country. Unfortunately, we do not have an ideal situation. Funding for the commission of Education, previously used to cater to Teutonic language courses and Teutonic centered programs, could be used for more pressing courses and programs catering to all students.”

It is unclear how long the demonstrations against the new policy will take place, however they have for the most part remained peaceful.

Shooting in Ansten
« Reply #1 on: September 03, 2021, 11:22:53 PM »
Breaking: Shooting in Ansten, south Ibueri, leaves three dead. Congressmen among the deceased.

A shooting occurred today within the southern city of Ansten leaving three people dead. The Act was carried out during the late morning in the central plaza of the city, specifically at a renowned bistro. It was here that congressmen Claudius Colombo of the Liberal Party was dining. According to witnesses Mr. Colombo and two others had chosen to dine outside in an elevated balcony. At around 11:21 a young man wearing a hooded sweater entered the Bistro. At 11:27 the individual was also seen atop the balcony seated and supposedly dining. At 11:56 witnesses report hearing gunshots, prompting a swift response by local law enforcement commencing a brief shoot out. By 12:04 the shooter and three others including Congressmen Colombo were declared deceased.

Premier Ferrante Aemilius made comments on the situation:
“My dearest condolence to the families of the victims of this horrific event. As Premier, I maintain that Ibueri is a country for all our citizens Tuetonic, Oscani & Vaegir. As such my office will be working diligently with the congress and law agencies to identify and address the issues that led to these actions.”

Other members of the congress also made comments on the situation.  Klara Abricht, current leader of the Unionist Party of Ibueri, had the following comments:

“We are entering an era within our country in which a good portion of our citizen’s very identity is called into question. This political agenda against the Teutonic members of our country has left many antagonized. It’s ultimate result coming to fruition in today’s attack. While violence of this matter should not be condoned, it should be acknowledged. Had our Congress listened to the people’s will instead of focus on political agendas of identity we could have ensured this event never happened. It is my hope that our fellow members of the congress, having their eyes opened, will now be ready to listen and cooperate with the UPI and our coalition partners to create a safe and inclusive Ibueri for all our citizens.”

Other political organizations also made statements on the situation, of them the most notable and controversial is that of Alban Schwab who seemingly praised the actions of the attacker as “patriotic” and one of “ultimate result of self-sacrifice, though unnecessary”. Alban Schwab is a prominent member of the Voice for Tuetonia, party one that has been often criticised as a concerningly nationalist organization promoting policies accused of being aligned with Teutonic supremacy.  Voice for Teutonia has often been accused of supporting or having links with the People’s Front for the Liberation of Tuetonia (PFLT), a paramilitary organization now deemed terrorist group by the central government, whose goals stem from establishing a Tueton sessionist state in the south of the country, to overthrowing the government in Vrusa and establishing an independent Teutonic nation. Mr. Schwab maintains that the VfT party has no ties to PFLT, though is on record for stating that “Their cause is deserving of sympathy, though their methods less so.”

Local Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident; however, it is believed that the act of violence was politically motivated and linked with the recent passing of a new education policy within the State Congress. Mr. Colombo, was a major supporter of the new education polices which included the dropping of Teutonic language programs from the core and financially state supported education budgets. The Policy, among others has been coitized as an increasingly aggressive political campaign to remove the identity of the Teutonic ethnic group within the country. Mr. Colombo, is also widly known as being one of three co-authors for a bill that would lead to the eventual privatization of the state owned copper company IbueRame itself a major source of employment through out the country.

The Liberal Party has maintained itself as the ruling party within the congress. Its main opposition being that of the Ibueri Sociale Party. The Liberal Party has maintained a steady policy of economic liberalistion resulting in a steady increase in economic growth. Despite this opposition to the party’s policies remains steady with the largest criticism, generalized, as a sense of over privatization at the expense of the average citizen’s welfare.  Congress members from the less developed southern regions of the country, including Ansten and the Irline Plateau, have accused the Liberal Party of centralizing wealth to the northern coasts, of which Vrusa lies. Other accusations also include a so-called political agenda against the Teutonic identity in favor of the Oscani.

Regardless of accusations, what is known is that today’s events will have unknown ramifications both political and societal.
