An educational visit Cassiopeia and East Moreland
« on: January 02, 2022, 09:04:57 PM »

To:- His Majesty King David of East Moreland

Following my response to you regarding the honour of being a Sword Mother to Prince Llewellyn I would be thankful if you could dispatch someone, possibly your ambassador, to the Complex of the Queen to help educate me on the requirements and more importantly responsibilities of this position. In addition to this I would like to speak with your ambassador regarding another matter. To my understanding you have stated that at some point early this year you have a proposal that would seek to ensure no one responsible for historical crimes against humanity find it easy to escape justice. We ourselves find many members of our once controlling Junta have fled across Mundus and would therefore believe some of heir crimes may fall under the umbrella of what you propose. I would therefore appreciate an insight into what you propose.

With Thanks

Queen Atalanta II

With issues in the Kyne and Matilda's brewing Atalanta considered cancelling the meeting with the East Moreland ambassador however that wouldn't do. In the coming days having some friendly connections could be useful, especially with the Morelanders having a vested interest in the neighbouring Commonwealth. The Complex was not as pleasant in winter as it had been a few months earlier. The place was largely made of stone and so was a nightmare to keep warm. Large faux fur throws covered many of the floors and log burning fires could be found in many of the working spaces. The more residential parts of the complex had been more modernised by the people seemed to love the Complex as it was, and as many parts of it were open to the public on organised tours it was unlikely to change much anytime soon.

The Queen had arranged for lunch to be served in the small suite that gave a view across the valley to the Complex Of Olympus. She had picked the location for two reasons. The first was because she thought the view was awe inspiring and she hoped to impress the ambassador. The second was as a reminder to herself. She was surprised to be offered this honour by the King of East Moreland and she understood it perhaps contained some religious element. While she was a firm believer you could follow whichever faith you wanted she herself was believed, according to her nations Priesthood, to be a "Celestial" , touched by the Gods and naturally if she was expected to give allegiance to Helus or some other foreign God that would be a deal breaker. She also saw this as an oppurtunity. If she understood things correctly the Morelanders offered this position as a means of a political gesture and so Atalanta believed she may be able to secure help for something she wanted much more than a relationship as a kind of "aunt" or something to a foreign Prince. The fire place had a small pot bubbling away with the aroma of a light vegetable stew while on the table sat some bread, cheese and salad. A newly opened bottle of red wine sat waiting for the ambassador to arrive.

Downstairs the Palace's security handled checking the ambassador in and escorted them into the Queen's prescence with a bow and announcement of their name.

King David had of course informed Lady Rochelle of the intention to name Queen Atalanta as one of Sword parents and Rochelle had considered it a wise move. She'd settled into her role in Cassiopeia now and rather liked the country but thankfully she'd had little need to visit the Queen often. Instead her days were largely made up of dealing with interest from tourists with problems, the odd enquiry from businesses in either country and on one occasion dealing with a drunken rugby fan who had got himself arrested. She presented her credentials at the complex's gate and waited to be shown to the Queen's room.

As she entered she was hit by the smell of something cooking and was thankful she'd not had breakfast. She had grown to like the local cuisine with the exception of olives and now she hoped she wouldn't be offered any as surely that might cause offence. "Hello Your Majesty" Rochelle gave a bow as she entered. "My King asks that I offer you his thanks for your message of well wishing about the birth of Prince Llewellyn and has asked that I do my best to answer any of your questions regarding the role of Sword Mother." She waited to be permitted to take a seat and then continued. "If perhaps I may begin by outlining the history of the role. According to our faith the God of War, an individual called Jekar, witnessed that during the battle with the Underlords a man would fight harder to protect his family than to protect just a fellow soldier. To us this is common sense but this realisation saw Jekar set about trying to forge bonds so close between humans that it were as though blood connections existed. With this in mind the idea of Sword of Shield Siblings were created to give people larger extended families. When humanity and the Gods emerged victorious it was at a time when many children had no parents according to scripture and so Jekar and Helus ordered all children to be allocated role models to show them how to live a virtuous life. These people became Sword and Shield Parents. Over time the concept developed and the individuals were allocated for all children. Those accepting the role are tasked with helping guide the child in how to be a virtuous person. Since King David came to the throne the idea has been to connect back to Jekars original idea of using the idea to forge close friendships with other nations through key members of their society. Now this brings me to the position of Sword Mother. It is thought that a Sword Mother is someone who has demonstrated the virtues of Strength, both physical and mental, Honour, Bravery, Dedication, Self Sacrifice, Respect, Mercy and Logic." Rochelle ticked them off on her fingers as she listed them. "King David believes the leadership you showed in helping remove your military Junta and the service you've given your nation over your life would be an excellent example to Prince Llewellyn."

She took a pause for a second. "I understand that being so connected to something seen as being part of another faith may be complex and so if you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them Your Majesty."

The faith made very little sense to Atalanta, why would Gods need humans in battle? We were merely play things for them, a form of entertainment but the idea of the Gods actually needing us to defeat an enemy was laughable. Still the idea that the acceptance could grant greater international connections with a nation that had as many as East Moreland was something not to turn down lightly. "Please tell His Majesty that I will accept however on the condition that I not be expected to undertake any ceremony that would be counter to our own faith. I'll not pay lip service to another God even if it cements a friendship with another nation. I won't diminish my faith even one ounce. If you would make that clear to King David and he is still happy then I'll happily accept the kind gesture. If he can not or will not make that accommodation then sadly I must refuse but I do hope that you will make it clear to him that I wish him no ill will and all the best for Prince Llewellyn. I look forward to his response."
