Zayasu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
« on: February 01, 2023, 04:30:43 AM »

Zayasu Shipbuilding (座安造船株式会社, Zayasu Zōsen Kabushikigaisha), often referred to as just Zayasu in the media, is the largest shipbuilding company in the Empire of Daitō, both in terms of tonnage and sales revenue. The company, which is a subsidiary of Zayasu Heavy Industries (座安重工-業株式会社, Zayasu Jūkōgyō Kabushikigaisha), has been the primary supplier of naval vessels for the Imperial Daitōjin Navy and Coast Guard for decades, with a long, storied history going back to before the Great War. It was Zayasu which built the mighty IDN Fusō, at the time the largest naval vessel ever put to sea, and it was Zayasu which likewise put Daitō's first nuclear-powered vessels to sea. However, until 2019, the company was but one of two (previously three) companies which provided vessels to the navy, when it merged with Higaki Engineering & Shipbuilding following regulatory approval. Since then, the company has held a de-facto monopoly on the naval defense sector in the country, one which is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Named for the IDN Taihō, a highly-decorated Great War-era aircraft carrier which played a key role in the Second Battle of Yakushima, the class is equipped
with a number of technologies from the KBG(X) program, such as EMALS, and a number of other design features intended to improve efficiency and reduce
operating costs. It is currently intended for the class to see five ships enter service, starting with Taihō in 2023.

Background
An early attempt at a nuclear-powered carrier, the Mitake-class is among the oldest ship classes still in service with the navy. However, as of 2023, only one vessel, the Utsugi,
remains in service out of a class of five. The vessels were intended to be pulled from service by the early 2000s, however, following the recession and the ensuing lost decade,
Daitō found itself unable to fully replace the class, with it now being expected that the Taihō-class will partially replace it alongside the Tairyū-class.

The Zuikaku-class is a class of landing helicopter assault (LHA) type amphibious assault ships of the Imperial Daitōjin Navy (IDN). Succeeding the Yakushima-class,
the class is designed to put ashore a "Landing Expeditionary Unit" (LEU) using helicopters and L-18 Ikuchi V/STOL Transport Aircraft, supported by G-9I Hikari or
J-21I Umikotsu V/STOL aircraft and various attack helicopters. Although it is only designed to carry helicopters and V/STOL aircraft, the Zuikaku-class, with a
displacement of about 46,000 t, is similar in size to the Achkaerinese Discovery-class fixed-wing aircraft carrier.

Often referred to as Battlecruisers in the media, owing in no small part to their length being between a standard cruiser and a battleship, the ships entered service starting in 1986, where they were tasked with serving as independent combatants.

The Akimoto-class is a class of nuclear-powered cruise missile fast attack submarines in service with the Imperial Fusanese Navy. As of 2023, it is Fusan's latest submarine model, incorporating the latest in stealth, intelligence gathering, and weapons systems technology. Akimoto-class submarines are designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral missions, including anti-submarine warfare and intelligence-gathering operations. They are expected to remain in service until at least 2060, with the latter submarines planned to retire in the 2070s.

Background
Shrouded in secrecy, the Kita-class Ballistic Missile Submarine has long made up an important part of Daitō's strategic deterrence. Initially designed to carry nuclear weapons, with the program's cancellation, it became rumored that the vessels were, for many decades, home to numerous other payloads, including chemical and biological weapons. To this day, questions remain about their payload, although many of them have now been converted to carry cruise missiles instead. As a matter of protocol, the locations of these vessels when out of port is classified.

Background
The Kyūseishu-class of hospital ships are converted supertankers used by the Imperial Daitōjin Navy. Originally built in the 1970s, they were acquired by the navy and converted
into hospital ships in the 1980s. Officially, the Kyūseishu-class ships are classified as "Flexible Deterrent Options", as during times of war, the act of sending a ship with the
capacity for as many patients as the class is likely to send the message that Daitō is prepared to accept an immense amount of casualties. In actuality, however, the ships have
rarely been deployed in support of combat operations, instead primarily being tasked with humanitarian missions around the globe.

Background
The Miyakejima-class "strike cruiser" is designed to replace the Kirishima-class for the Imperial Daitōjin Navy. At a length of nearly 250 meters, it has often been referred to as a battlecruiser, a designation which, though not officially adopted by the navy, has been commonly applied to the ships. Due to the investment which each of these ships makes up, it is not anticipated that a great many will be built, with resources being used for smaller vessels which will work alongside the ships and the rest of the navy. The ships are to be equipped with the experimental N3Z modular molten salt reactor, which is capable of generating up to 500 MWe of electricity and which will be rolled out to the navy's next generation of carriers, save for the Taihō, in the coming years.

Part of the Imperial Daitōjin Navy's Fleet Modernization Program, the Minekaze-class strongly resembles the
Miyakejima-class Strike Cruiser in appearance, though its function is somewhat different. Though capable of
some missions the Miyakejima is designed for, it is designed to perform fleet air defense missions and
occasionally operate as the centerpiece for other military formations instead of as an independent surface
combatant. It is the second class of ships to be equipped with the Advanced Gun System (AGS).

Background
When one thinks of a "battleship", they think of the old ships who either became outdated during the Great War or who, over the last few decades, sailed off into retirement, waiting the call of their homelands. An obsolete platform vulnerable to enemy fire. But despite these opinions, there is a ship which defies these beliefs—and at the time logic too—by being more than capable of defending herself and surrounding vessels during a fleet action. Her name? The Fusō-class AEGIS-equipped Guided Missile Battleship. Built at a time when the type of ship was seemingly going out of fashion in response to a threat which ultimately didn't pan out, the Fusō-class was designed as the anchor for surface action groups, providing overwhelming firepower in the form of a pair of 64-cell and one 32-cell VLS units, for a total of 160 missiles, alongside a pair of triple 18.1 inch gun mounts and four 5”/62 guns, the former capable of firing sabot rounds  and now new munitions for extended range. It comes equipped with some of the best armor that money can buy, sometimes to its own detriment as this resulted in a hit to its top speed.

Yet there are now questions with regards to their purpose; the threats it was built to counter no longer exist, but political pressure has resulted in these ships remaining in service to this day, officially to counter the Rokkenjiman fleet. But when they are no longer a foe to Fusan, what now? Will the Fusō-class meet the same fate as similar ships have, remain a relic of a bygone age, or perhaps find a new lease on life as new technologies come online? Only the future may tell.

$2.4 billion

Background
The Barakuda-class is a predator. Designed solely to hunt and kill high-performance submarines (though more than capable of targeting other vessels), she is the spawn of the cancelled Itachizame-class and a Third Offset submersible vessel with a speed comparable to the Normandy-class while producing noise to a lesser degree than either Itachizame or Rokkenjima's Rorqual-class. Unlike most modern submarines, the Barakuda-class forgoes vertical launch tubes, instead utilizing sixteen 711 mm (28-inch) torpedo tubes with a triple-deck automated torpedo room. These massive tubes are capable of launching any weapon rated for underwater service, while her primary weapon is planned to be the Type 75 ULTRA, a 711 mm torpedo specifically designed for the new class. It is also capable of firing sleeved Type 69 HATEs (Heavyweight Attack Torpedo, Enhanced) and older Type 48 ADCAPs. The vessel's S8Z PWR reactor has unparalleled energy density and, paired with the ship’s hydrogen fuel cells, allows the class to be practically undetectable by passive sonar.
