Convention Centre / Re: Krokom initiative for Scientific Support

Stein took great delight in welcoming each and every delegate, he was thrilled to see so many people had taken up their hospitality and ensured that the staff ensured everyone had food and drink before beginning to get them settled. He waited until it had seemed like everyone had mingled some and then made his way onto a small platform at the front of the hall. "May I have you attention" the Head Gothi said loudly the room gradually falling silent. "Thank you" he took a moment. "First allow me to officially welcome you to our nation. For some of you this will be the first time you have been here and I hope it will not be the last. I sadly lack the ability to understand many of the things your going to speak about today so will not be present during your discussions. Instead our nations Allsherjargoði Jin Odinsson will be handling negotiations. That leaves me only to wish you the best of luck in creating an organisation that will do more to advance mankind than any other organisation on Mundus. May Odin give you knowledge on your path, May Thor grant you strength and courage on your way, And may Loki give you laughter as you go." With that he stepped down and left the hall as Jin Odinsson replaced him on the platform.

"Ladies and Gentleman, if you can proceed to the elevator in an orderly fashion we'll be going down to the LHC Conference room." Over to one side the staff of the LHC, which was used to hosting scientific conferences within the nation, had two large elevators ready. In batches of around 20 in each elevator the delegates were taken down a good distance below the Åland surface. The feint buzz and hiss of the LHC itself could be heard as they passed by the "Start/Finish" point of the colliders loop. Teams of scientists were busy moving around the equipment clipboards in hand. Once passed they entered a room which had been prepared into a space for a conference. The main delegate for each nation would sit at a large long central table while their other representatives sat on tables to either side of the room. Jin took his place at the head of the table. "Now, if I may begin we have called you all here as it is the belief of our nations scientific community that by improving c-operation between nations we can achieve a great deal, with that in mind we have several aims we hope to achieve here."

1. To enable the sharing of new ideas, theories and data by way of creating a globally respected multi-discipline scientific journal.

2. To establish a agency to allow co-ordination of space exploration. This is not intended to control it, but for example should a JNSP mission be scheduled the same time as a Cenneg mission there is the possibility of disruption to each mission.

3. The creation of a system to deal with space debris.

4. The creation of an internationally recognised organisation designed to promote STEM subjects at all educational levels.

5. The creation of a system of programmes designed to enhance the work experience of young STEM students.

6. The creation of an NGO fund to help support researchers carrying out smaller scale projects.

"So with that in mind do any of you have any other aims you wish to see this project bring about or any suggestions as to ways towards these aims. Once we have a few ideas on the table we shall begin to form the charter of this initiative."

"We'll be happy to offer advice about experiments and if needed building appropriate modules." Seamus began. "The sooner you tell us what you want the sooner we can consider a launch." It seemed the meting was coming to an end. "Is there anything more we need to discuss or should we just await your decisoon."

Here was a nation with no space programme of their own and talking of colonising other planets, it just didn't sit well with Seamus. "With respect your talking about something several decades away with hundreds more missions needed before that becomes anything other than a theoretical problem. You're talking of like step 100 in a programme and we're only on like step 30. You can't realistically consider beyond something like Step 60 as what we discover in those 30 steps changes massively what happens in Step 61. Now clearly your experiments may fit in to help shape that knowledge we'd need but that obviously depends on who is making them and what they are. So do you have anything in mind?"

The observatory building at the LHC was already in full swing for the welcoming reception, everyone involved with the LHC project was already there enjoying a lovely buffet and drinks. Many had gone outside to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather but then had been ushered towards the rear of the building to leave the entrance clear for when guests arrived. The interior of the building had a projection of the various images of the Joint Nordic Space Programmes missions playing on a massive loop, everything from the close ups of the sun Icarus took all the way up to the video of the last moments of Longboat 3's life as it was sent to its death on a distant moon. Many of the team that had managed that project over its almost 20 year life were present and felt justly proud of the images they were seeing.

Stein Ulfsson, the nations Head of State was mingling with the various people already in attendance and admiring the images. He was already feeling a little out of his depth with all the scientific stuff being talked but he was here only for the greetings and then to sign off on anything his experts advised. It would be his colleague Jin Odinsson who would lead the talks being the Head of Government, he at least had some scientific understanding as his wife Wiktoria was a lead researcher at a medical company in Krokom and she was here too as one of the selected representatives of the Nordic scientific community. The other being Sven Karlbard of the JNSP and then Gunther Waldsson who managed the LHC.

For Jin this was the third attempt at trying to get some kind of organisation going, one dying out because of the Uppsala Crisis and the other two when it seemed all nations believed science was about was weapons. This would be different and he was confident that they'd come away something agreeable. The first group through the door where the Cenneg's lead by their Science Minister Julia O'Leary and Seamus O'Lachlan the leader of the Cenneg Space Agency. Stein approached and greeted them both by offering them drinking horns of mead and introducing them to the rest of the local delegation. "We've already meet" Sven smiled as he shook Seamus hand, the two had attended various conferences globally and had become reasonably good friends.

"Excellent, then we already have one ally here"  Stein joked as he wished them well for the conference.

"I can rule out Cenneg involvement in any permanent multi-national paramilitary organisation"  Deputy Taoiseach Neasa Quirke stated, "Now if Phuebra needs some kind of force to help keep the peace then I am sure we would look a how we can help. We've undertaken a similar role in Royal Seleucid until 2020 at the earliest so we have some experience on these matters. I think though we are putting the cart before the horse, we don't have an organisation yet still we're beginning to discuss specific issues."

WHALE HUNT GOES UNDER THE RADAR

This years annual whale hunt for the villages of Mikberg, Spitwald and Grundwald has taken place without interference from animal rights protestors or foreign governments. It was kept rather low key this year as part of a media strategy suggested by former CTO Secretary General Birgit Strand. "In the past we have seen much international interest as we have announced guest Grand Marshalls and the like, however this year we asked all three settlements to keep the event more low key and local while the government even kept the quotas for the year from the media as a way of making it a non-story. With nations such as Rokkenjima having strict views of the life of animals, particularly things like Whales we hoped to avoid a repeat of when the CTO attempted to invade our sovreignty by allowing liberal snowflakes to protest our customs in our own lands."

The hunt has proven controversial internationally in the past with many nations including Rokkenjima whom have a " 'Declaration of Rights' for Cetaceans and Elephants" which states
Quote
1.Every individual cetacean has the right to life.
2. No cetacean or elephant should be held in captivity or servitude; be subject to cruel treatment; or be removed from their natural environment.
3. All cetaceans and elephants have the right to freedom of movement and residence within their natural environment.
4. No cetacean or elephant is the property of any State, corporation, human group or individual.
5. Cetaceans and elephants have the right to the protection of their natural environment.
6. Cetaceans and elephants have the right not to be subject to the disruption of their cultures.
7. The rights, freedoms and norms set forth in this Declaration should be protected under international and domestic law.

The hunt has also been targetted by supporters of Matilda Osman, Patron of the Wild Mundus Organisation who helped encourage one vessel full of Morelanders to protest the hunt four years ago. These were arrested and served 60 days in prison for disruption of the hunt and various unsafe environmental and safe shipping laws. This year around 320 pilot whales were taken between the three settlements. The meat is distributed between the residents of the three settlements and is aimed at supporting the community through the winters to come in regard to food supplies. One of the whalers in Mikberg explained, "Traditionally our diets are whatever we grown before the harvest and then what we gain from the sea. We've recently celebrated  Freyfaxi and laid up for the winter our crops, what is needed though is Protein and that would normally come from fish however the seas often freeze or are too rough for us to go out and catch enough fish. Whale meat is a healthy alternative that preserves brilliantly and so is the perfect solution."

To:- V.P.F.O. Therz

Our nation has a long heritage of being boat builders, when one thinks of the history of naval military history the ancient Viking Longboat stands out as one of the most iconic naval vessels. Those vessels where built largely in the settlement that is today Krokom. Today the Dockyards of Krokom Enterprises Shipmakers Division is one of the prime developers of the UNP and now Ålander navy. In addition in the last few years we were even considered as one of the last two designs for the new East Moreland Destroyer narrowly missing out on the contract only because of the Morelanders desire to keep their production in house. We are therefore confident that should we be able to fulfil the criteria desired by the East Moreland Navy, a nation famed for technical military innovation that we can fulfil the contract you are requiring regarding a surface fleet.

We are more than happy to discuss the design requirements with you however we also have a number of designs already in service with the Åland Navy.

We look forward to hearing from you

Signed

Leopold Bakke

CHRISTIANS ARRESTED FOR "DISHNOURING FREYFAXI"

On the annual Freyfaxi celebration to honour the Goddess Freya and celebrate a successful harvest a group of six Christians have been arrested in Krokom. The group where distributing "Lammas Bread" in the shape of a cross. The Christian celebration of Lammas shares many of the aspects of Freyfaxi in terms of it is a festival to mark the annual wheat harvest, and is the first harvest festival of the year. On this day it is customary for Christians to bring to church a loaf made from the new crop in much the same way that Odinists will leave bread and fruit offerings at their shrines. The nations constitution states "8.2 - The only religion recognised by the state is Odinism. Other religions may practice but must do so in private at a private residence. No religious symbols other than those associated with Odinism may be visible in public. " and by handing out these crosses the group where in violation. The group where arrested and appeared in front of a judge where they were issued with the standard 2,000Kr fine. One of the group said they refused to pay and yelled out "This nation is denying the most basic of human rights to us and we must stand in this tyranny even if it means we become martyrs for Christ."

The judge therefore ordered the man to be remanded in custody and a hearing put in place for 48 hours time where he will face trial for "Crimes against the Constitution" and could face up to 12 months in prison and a fine of up to 100,000Kr. So far there are 11 Christians serving time in prison on these charges. A member of the National Prosecution Service stated, "We don't generally put people in prison for these crimes unless their are exceptional circumstances. For example one inmate is in for setting up a religious school dedicated to Judaism, the students were listed officially as being home schooled which is perfectly within a parents right, but this gentleman was charging the parents for teaching their children and his curriculum was not inline with national standards but instead was faith based. Another inmate is in for their third offence which included cutting mistletoe at a sacred grove. Christians are free to believe their faith, they just however must keep it private. Our nation has witnessed others around the world losing their traditions, culture and way of life by becoming multi-cultural, we shall preserve ours by maintaining the strength of our faith."

The Head Gothi also confirmed today that he will not be signing the Mundus Convention of Universal Rights. Stein Ulfsson stated, "By signing we turn our back on our constitution. We've seen how Christianity has tried to encroach on our faith throughout history. Our homeland is the last bastion in keeping the Odinist faith pure we shall fight that battle with all our might." The Head Gothi spent Freyfaxi at the Shrine of Freya in Krokom before attending an Odinic Rite Centre to help distribute gifts of food to those gathered. As usual the square outside the Gothi's residence turned into a party as revellers sang songs and shared picnics.

DWARF PLANET MISSION TO LAUNCH THIS WEEKEND

The Madainn Probe is set to be launched this coming weekend. The probe is designed to fly to investigate a protoplanet called Ceres which is situated between Nergal and Marduk and forms part of the asteroid belt that sits between the two planets. It is likely that the Mandainn probe is likely to claim several “firsts” in space exploration. According to the Dr. Lee McRae the project co-ordinator,  it’s the first “purely scientific” probe powered by ion thrusters. It’s the first probe to visit Ceres, and thus the first probe to visit a protoplanet. If it is successful in observing Ceres it is likely to move onto a second nearby protoplanet called Vesta  and if it achieves orbit with that dwarf planet, will be the first probe to orbit two bodies in a single mission.

Dr.McRae spoke of excitement about the programme saying "By studying these two bodies we can learn much about the processes by which our own planets have formed. Hopefully we can see how celestial dust merged into clusters, which merged into rocks, which merged into planets. Vesta and Ceres should have been right there alongside Earth, Venus, Mars, etc., in our sixth-grade light bulb diorama, but they couldn’t quite make the jump to planet-hood. . These proto-planets—one rocky and the other icy—are more or less windows into the past, and by studying them, we can fill in the blanks on the history and makeup of the Solar System. Madainn will arrive at Ceres in April. The probe also features many elements manufactured by SmartWar who Dr.McRae said, "They have a proven track record in making successful remote systems and we'd be fools not to use their expertise in a project where our probe is likely to be in and out of flying debris. There is a good chance some giant rock will slam into Madainn as it transition making it important to give it some ability to act autonomously."

KING CÓEMGEIN FINALLY LEAVES HOSPITAL

King Cóemgein of Cantabria was today released from hospital. The 44 year old had been involved in a major car accident and was in a medically induced coma for close to two months and has then been slowly regaining his cognitive ability over the last six months. While hospitalised he also suffered from MRSA which further set back his recovery. While he has been hospitaliised the Kingdom of Cantabria has been run by his wife Queen Cait, sister of King Finley of Ui Cenneslaig. The Queen has juggled representing the royal family with bringing up the pairs two year daughter Niamh. The Queen, who turned 30 last week, has acted as regent and is likely to continue to do so until the King is passed as medically fit enough to return to his duties.

The Queen spoke briefly with the media before going into the Claith Royal Hospital to take her husband home and said, "I'm thrilled to get him home finally, as will Niamh. She's spent a good few months not really having her father around and I'm sure being with her well only help my husband recover." King Finley also sent his regards saying, "Cóemgein is effectively a brother to me and I'm delighted to hear he's on the road to recovery. I look forward to catching up with him soon."

It is expected to be at least another six months before Cóemgein can resume even the most basic royal duties.

Neasa Quirke began to speak "We'll support the proposal of a form of assembly, council or whatever you wish to call it. I also feel Bakkermaya is an appropriate place to locate it following the previous issues we've had on the continent, the Bakkermayans (??) have their hands clean so to speak and therefore would seem an impartial host. As for the sharing of criminal intelligence we would also support this, however I suggest a further proposal in this regard. The Iwi have suffered terribly because of the crimes of those from the Seleucid regime. I suggest we set up an organisation with two aims, first to research and investigate the perpetrators of those actions thus helping to bring all those responsible to justice, secondly to help use the genocide of the Iwi as a catalyst for ensuring racism and discrimination do not take place again. Our continent has faced repeated genocides, the Iwi, the one carried out by Toshikawa for which leading members of the Rokkenjiman and Dartfordian government have been put on trial yet nothing is being done on a continental wide basis to stop any further."

Diplomacy and Events / Re: An offer to Seaforth
« on: August 06, 2018, 04:14:34 PM »
OOC- Sorry not sure how this slipped by.

Finley didn't lead Andrew directly to the waiting car but instead to the pipers who had been dismissed, the group seemed excited by suddenly being in the company of the royals and a few rummaged in uniform pockets to bring out their activity log bogs, small plastic coated documents that recorded their cadet qualifications and experiences. "Your Majesty will you sign my Parade Duty" they asked as they handed Finley the books open to the page that showed which parades they'd attended, most had already written in Honour Guard for King Andrew of Seaforth Finley obliged, and then handed a few to Andrew, "The cadet youth groups are dear to my heart" Finley said as he even posed for a few photographs, "Kept me from being too much of a pain and made me want to be a soldier, teaches a youngster discipline" he addressed Andrew, "The cadets like to get momento's of their activities and what better than a signauture of a visiting celtic royal on a day our nations take steps closer together." The commanding officer of the Cadets, a balding man in his fifties who wore the uniform of the 3rd Highlanders, a Regiment that had ceased to exist ten years ago asked for a group photograph and Finley and Cait agreed so the man expertly marshalled his cadets into a group with Andrew in the centre.

"Everyone smile and after three shout Celts. 3-2-1" a loud roar of the word "Celt" came from all around the group with Finley probably the loudest. His regional photo oppurtunity done for the day the King and his sister bid the cadets farewell and headed to the waiting car.

"Its important our young people remember where they came from" Finley said as the car began to move towards the capital. "In the day and age of this internet their bombarded with all manner of nonsense from around the globe. Take soccer for instance, our youngsters are taking it up in larger and larger numbers, now I'm a fan of any young person playing some sport but what the hell's wrong with a good spot of Gaelic Football, or Shinty?" he asked rhetorically. It didn't take the car long to reach the venue , the Palace of Claith, and two soldiers saluted as they drove in through the metallic gates. Once inside they sat around a low walnut table while Finley poured a slug of good whiskey for each of them. "Now I want to present you with this in the hopes of a successful talk." He stood and went behind the sofa on which he was sat with Cait and Andrew opposite. He seemed to lift something rather hefty and carried it round and placed it on the table carefully avoiding the glasses on. "This is a bolt of the tartan me and Cait are wearing, it combines the tartan of Seaforth with our families own colours, I've had it registered as an official tartan here in our nation. It's name is the Alliance Tartan. Now the name maybe a little misleading, we're cousins by ethnicity but beyond that we've very few connections in the modern age, so while this document I sent you is maybe called an Alliance I want you to see it more as a foundation. I hope that is ok?" Finley added

Diplomacy and Events / Re: Tsunami in Barnacle
« on: August 06, 2018, 03:58:35 PM »
The first of the two Cenneg Carriers that were scheduled to have taken part in the CNN exercise arrived at the zone allocated to them in the south. The Copre had been kept briefed of the various military and political shifts as they'd journeyed from homewaters and it had become quiet a pickle. The Cennegs were until recently members of the Western Ardian Forum with Himeyama and this placed them in an awkward but beneficial position, they had friends on both sides of the argument, the Himeyamans were continental buddies while East Moreland and Lodja had responded to the Heyran call for help. This though did leave an awkward situation.

"Launch the Bruthel's" Captain McCulloch ordered having briefed his men en-route.

"Aye sir" came the reply and within minutes the sound of four jets moving away from the ship at speed could be heard, they were tasked with carrying out aerial and photographic reconnaissance of the area as well as almost announcing their arrival. The scheduled radio call was made to home and with that being sent it was confirmed that the second Cenneg carrier which had also been heading to the area on military exercises would arrive in 24 hours. The statement King Finley had written was then released to the press

Quote from: Official Press Statement

Upon hearing of the disaster on the island of  Nurashima/Barnacle Island we immediately switched our two exercise groups heading to the Mhorish for manoeuvres with the CNN onto an aid operation. In the short time it has taken for our first task force to reach the disputed islands the situation on the ground has clearly changed. We now face a situation where the island is being militarised amid a humanitarian crisis. As a former member of the WAF we still feel a measure of responsibility towards the Himeyaman citizens who are on the islands and will therefore be undertaking operations to aid and support these. Furthermore we reject claims by Heyra to sovereignty over the whole of the island network and believe that the only true solution to this long standing dispute is one that involves the decision of those living on the island. We therefore intend to use our two task groups to help those in the damaged areas in whatever way we can. We will contacting the Himeyaman authorities to look a how we can support those remaining on the islands and will make both equipment, manpower and funding avaliable to support them. As of yet it appears most funding and support has gone to the Heyran portions of the operation and we feel therefore we can become a link between the two sides in this operation.

Our forces will be attempting to make contact with the Himeyaman forces on the ground within the hour to assess the situation.

Regards

King Finley of Ui Cenneslaig.

While the aircraft where taking their images it became clear that several small groups of Himeyamans were still on the island. The Corpi was already a hive of activity with groups of soldiers visible on deck loading helicopters while down closer to water level the 800 or so Cenneg soldiers were preparing to go ashore. The vehicle deck of the vessel still had a compliment of armour but this was being ignored as the various mobility vehicles were being loaded onto landing craft completely rammed full of medical supplies. Just two hours after landing on the island the Cenneg commander on the ground, Lt.Col Strachan, began looking to make contact with the Himeyamans. It didn't take long as they found them setting up makeshift tents in a village that seemed to have been swept largely away by the Tsunami. The two officers exchanged salutes and then Strachan spoke, "We're aiming on supporting whatever operations you've got in place regarding the humanitarian effort but just a heads up our aircraft have seen a significant Heyran military force on the island, we don't want you boys shooting at each other so might I suggest my men take the more Northern end of proceedings, I think a Heyran soldier is less likely to take pot shots a a Cenneg." The Himeyaman agreed and Strachan sent 400 of his men and the vehicles that were empty North on a reconnessance of what was going on. It was then that Strachan brought up the subject of the Lodjains. "They're in an effective limbo, I understand that you don't wish them to pass on sensitive data to any of the Heyran forces but they are here to help, what I therefore suggest is that you place those Lodjains on the island under my command. You have my word they will not leave the island for the next week unless you give permission and I'll replace them in that zone with my forces. We've another task force arriving soon which should have been part of that exercise so we've a lot of manpower inbound so I'll not miss a few."

The Task Force took up positions in the waters to the South of Nurashima clearly keeping a corridor to the island open for the arrival of the second task force in the next few hours.

404
Finley placed the file to one side, "I'll have our police check things out and if there is a chance of something standing up in a court of law they'll make an arrest. It may not lead to full charges but if your mostly interested in damaging reputations then I'm sure we can ensure that happens." He would leave it up to the Chief Constable to sort things out but was pretty sure that with a few well placed phone calls he could get the charges of something bit levelled against her.

"As for cocoa beans you must be kidding" Finley smiled broadly. They need a lovely warm climate and this is the Highlands, you're likely to find nothing but fog, rain and the odd bit of snow here. Sadly our climate doesn't see fit to bless us with that, I suggest Paracambi or some of the islands of Bakkermaya, they seem a little more suited to growing those than the Cenneg climate."

Next up to sign was the Cenneslaig representative who replaced the pen and took their seat.

The Alander representative meanwhile stood, "My apologise but the fact that so many nations wish to see a kind of international court for this means in the future this is something likely to be pushed for and added to this charter. We have no wish to change our laws to be compatible with the MCUR only to one day give oversight to a foreign body. As such we will not be signing this charter."

AIR FORCE ARRIVE IN ZIMALIA

20 of the nations NA-X multi-role fighters have arrived in Zimalia. The deployment comes amid fears of nations violating the sovereignty of the Alba Karinyan nation over fears it is harbouring terrorists. The announcement was made by Minister of Defence Martja Larsson who said, "Our nation has first hand seen on two occasions the international community threaten our sovereignty. On one occasion we saw the CTO pushing to install their own boats in our EEZ during one of our whale hunts on the pretext of protecting protesters. Next we had the whole Marseille debacle where we were "ordered" by Admiral Cole of Rokkenjima to halt our action after being hit by missiles, yet Rokkenjima just days after launched their own retaliatory strike when hit themselves. It is for these two reasons we do not believe the safety of Zimalia can be left to the hands of more militant nations."

The aircraft have begun patrols alongside an AEWACS aircraft that also joined the squadron. These patrols will be conducted alongside the Zimalian Air Force and the Air Forces of Paracambi and Tamora.  Group Captain Caj Nørup who is commanding the deployment said, "We have been made to feel extremely welcome already. The climate is much different to home and we've managed to get out and see some of the unique wildlife in Zimalia. We firmly believe that nations have a right to defend their homeland and we have seen several threats against Zimalia, a nation that have suffered enough in the past. We're proud to be here."

THIRD TIME THE CHARM FOR YOUNG DOCTOR

Olivia Robertsson is a 21 year old medical student from Krokom University Hospital, yet in the time since she was 17 she has seen as much medical action as many doctors will in their career. The youngster was a survivor from a Gungnir coup attempt during the great crisis that hit Uppsala and was discovered by East Moreland forces caring for four injured people. At that time Robertsson had just enrolled as a voulenteer medical orderly with the Joint Emergency Team and having been rescued from the  fire fight with the religious extremists she spent the rest of that summer helping at the refugee camps. A year on she was once more spending her break from study working with JET in the refugee camps of the city when the chemical leak hit. Robertsson herself was on the front line and found herself at the camp that was in the direct line of the leak which caused skin damage which has left the palms of her hand criss crossed with scars. "We were working on patients when we realised the gloves were getting damaged, we didn't really have many options other than just protect ourselves the best we could. I spent the next two weeks with constantly itchy palms, like they were burning." Robertsson explains of her time there. The young woman was awarded the Merit of the Valkriyes for her dedication during those difficult days.

Now the summer has arrived again and while most of her colleagues would be enjoying some time relaxing Robertsson has once again voulenteered her time. This time the trainee doctor is one of a team of University students who are in the Principality of Northern Zimalia as part of a educational team. "We're here on a health education mission. Zimalia has a major issue with AIDS/HIV but so does the Principality. No one is doing anything about the issue and so when he heard there was a chance to do something and visit a new country I was excited to do this. Our role as medical professionals is to protect people's health, mostly by treating what is in front of us but if we can stop something before it begins that is even better. We can make a real difference to hundreds of lives here."

The 21 year old will return to University in October to continue her medical training and is already being hailed as a role model by Dr. Joachim Thorn, head of our nations JET mission. "Olivia turns up to help every time something happens. She works tirelessly and even when our medical staff were asked to withdraw from Krokom in the chemical leak she refused as long as doctors were working. I am not surprised to hear she is going to Zimalia. One day she will probably have my job and JET couldn't be in safer hands."

A total of 75 Alanders have gone to the Principality as teachers, doctors, nurses and as part of the AIDS/HIV project.

Queen Cait looked around as Lascelles asked the question, "I'm going to be honest." she took a breath, "We've two nations in Ardia who have clashed, metaphorically speaking, in the past Rokkenjima and Ui Cenneslaig. There is a total lack of trust there and being as influential as they are it takes Ardia with it." It was quiet ironic she was saying this with her being a Cenneg by birth, "Take the formation of the Western Ardian Forum, done mainly because of the cultural splits between the continent, but a slap in the face of Rokkenjima. Then to return the favour Rokkenjima look to build a transcontinental railway and we, I mean Ui Cenneslaig, had to literally force their way into those talks where they along with others had established a solid groundwork before it was pulled out from the beneath their feet by Rokkenjima. The list goes upon and on. This now lends us a chance to end such things." Cait looked at Deputy Taoiseach Neasa Quirke.

"I tend to agree" Neasa continued, "So the fact neither of us are controlling this meeting is probably a good thing. It gives a chance for a neutral view on the future of the continent as a building block. It also means we start at a point Bakkermaya, who have managed to avoid the messes of the past, feel is useful rather than fitting an agenda Rokkenjima or Ui Cenneslaig want to address. My one concern though is the size of Ardia, it will be hard to form an organisation uniting such a geographically large slab of rock as well as one containing so many cultures."

410
It wasn't the place the King expected to negotiate a treaty but he could think of worse places than the tasting room of a distillery. He took the draft treaty and began to read.

"It reads fine to me, however I believe we need a slight change to the defence section. "With the exception of other existing mandates." makes it read like we are permitted to ignore this clause if it gets in the way of say something the CMA mandates. Surely if say yourself and Lodja came to blows we would be stuck in the middle working for peace, where as that sentence means we wouldn't have to and would just automatically take action with Lodja. While the CNN puts us in the need to undertake to support Lodja if attacked it does not require us to support their military action in other circumstances. I believe a true treaty of friendship would see us work towards peace even if a situation like that occurred."

411
"Well the Cennegs have a reputation for woollen clothing and fabrics, and if your looking for organics clothing doesn't come much more organic than simply giving a sheep a haircut and using natural dyes. We've also got salmon farms, but can't beat the taste of natural stream caught ones which we could also export. My understanding however is that you have rather unique shipping methods though so the freshness could be an issue. Added to that we have lots of wild game such as venison wandering the hills, not sure how that would go down with your people if their worried about the environment but meat doesn't get anymore organic" Finly said as he considered what other products they could ship abroad.

"As for this Wilhelmina, sounds like she could be a problem. We have no desire for chaos in your nation so if you have anything you need us to do in terms of the investigation then just let me know and we can see what can be done."

Diplomacy and Events / Re: Ardian Futures Summit

King Finley had little confidence with the Ardian nations, his Taoiseach had come so close to closing the deal on the Ardian Railway only for it to be sidelined at the last minute. There had then been the issue that his nation had to muscle their way in on talks anyway as there seemed to be a split between the East and West of the continent. He had tried to form a smaller organisation, the West Ardian Forum but that had collapsed in short order and the nations in the East seemed determined to not really mix. The King's lack of trust in the prospect was well shown by the fact that he'd sent the Deputy Taoiseach Neasa Quirke on her first solo overseas mission. As to help her along she was accompanied by Queen Cait, Finley's sister who was the monarch of Cantabria. The pair had arrived on the same plane and Neasa was rather excited when she saw the palace, it was very very different to the grey stone palace back in Claith. The Deputy Taoiseach spotted they had arrived after Empress Beatrice and the Chief Councillor of Gowu and took their place in the line to greet their host.

"Grand Duke" Queen Cait approached first stepping in front of Neasa at the last minute. "Thank you for your hospitality" she shook the mans hand. "My brother Finley is kept with other matters, so may I introduce Deputy Taoiseach Quirke." The older woman exhcanged hand shakes with Hugo Lascelles before making the rounds of the others.

"We can handle minor launches with relative short notice, three weeks and we can launch pretty much standard size payloads. Anything more specific and obviously we need a schedule far in advance" Finley explained as best he could based on what he remembered from his trips to visit the space centre. Our next big mission is a technology demonstrator, the Deep Space Atomic Clock. That should be launched at the end of August." He had very little idea what the hell the DSAC did but it sounded damn impressive and so he was excited.

MINISTER OF DEFENCE URGES NO ATTACKS AGAINST THE "PRINCIPALITY"

The nations Minister of Defence Martja Larsson is the only government representative in the world to have visited the so called "Principality of Northern Borland" today she has issued caution in dealing with the entity and urged that it should not be attacked. The former Air Force helicopter pilot visited the "Principality" a self proclaimed but not recognised sovereign state completely land locked within Zimalia two years ago to oversee a measure of disarmament by the Borlander terrorist group. As such she has a unique insight into the settlement.

"I visited the Principality unannounced, our observation teams where scheduled to arrive and I just tagged along, the people there had no idea a representative of our government was coming. What I saw there was odd to say the least. There were very few white people, people I'd assume where Borlanders and those people were mainly families. They were involved heavily with helping the settlement grow. For example one was a doctor providing health care to the people. I saw others helping construct new homes, they were using old metal shipping containers and they had the most basic sanitary and electrical connections. The majority of people where Zimalians and when I spoke with them it was clear that many had moved there to simply take advantage of a free home and the chances provided. I mean in Zimalia they have to pay for education, yet here was someone running schooling for free, yes that schooling was primitive, classes were overcrowded and lacked resources but education of any sort is better than none. I even tried to teach some maths, it was tough and the utmost respect goes to those teachers there trying to make a better life for people. I've visited Zimalia a time or two, what you always see is society split along tribal lines but here that had gone. We had people of all tribes who wished to escape that chaos of Zimalian society living side by side in peace. It was a great example of what a society could be. I heard no mention of terror, I saw no outward hatred of Morelanders and I saw no high ranking Borlander living there. I did see Kyle Barren on the day that the weapons where destroyed by our teams but as soon as the job was done he disappeared. Speaking to the people there they knew he was making many of the laws that existed there, laws that essentially mimic those you'd expect in any civilised society but beyond that he had little daily input into the settlement. I was devastated to hear that weeks later the Morelanders had destroyed the settlement with an air strike. I understand they'd given 24 hours notice of the attack and so loss of life was kept to a minimum, yet still I felt grief that a small piece of Zimalia that was trying to raise itself above the day to day mayhem that exists there was knocked down. I actually rejoice in the fact the "Principality" has regrown, and from what I have seen and read about it has mirrored the first incarnation. We as a world should be encouraging that little settlement and I fully intend to revisit, take with me school resources to support the education there. For example do you know that only 15% of Zimalian girls access education beyond the age of 10? While in the Principality that figure is 100%. These are efforts worthy of commendation, were this any other place on Mundus we would be hailing it a great success, a moral victory and nations would be standing applauding, yet we now have Rokkenjima making statements that "Zimalia shall have before it two choices: dismantle the so-called "Principality" of its own volition or dismantle it with the assistance of the international community" Well I will be recommending to the Riksdag later today a series of proposals to ensure that the place is not dismantled, that it is not faced by the " military tools of the international community". The "Principality" may bare the name of shame in having the word Borland associated with it, a name associated with hate and destruction, yet all I found there was love and a hope to build something great. I urge the world to not cut down once more this sapling of hope in the wilderness of chaos"  (OOC-Speech heavily edited by Libby)

Late that day the Minister of Defence presented a bill to the Riksdag that called on the following.

1. The Air Force to dispatch a squadron of aircraft to support the Zimalian Air Force against "Incursions outlawed under international law"

2. The Ministry of Education to send 25 teachers to the "Principality" for two months to help establish an educational programme.

3. The Ministry of Health to send 10 doctors and 20 nurses to help establish a health care programme.

4. Education and awareness about the spread of HIV/AIDS to be set up to try and combat the higher than average levels there.

5. The establishment of an Odinic Rite "Outpost" there to support cultural programmes within the Principality.

6. $5million in vouchers to be given to the settlement to allow them to buy resources from companies based within Nya Åland.

Short name: Atheroje

Population: 519 million
GDP per capita: 235,000 Varnas (~2,093 USD)
Literacy rate (%): 100
Unemployment (%): 0
Part of the Government in the GDP (%): 100
GDP allowed to the military (%): 25
Population density (x/km2): 104.97
Name of your national currency: Varnas
Symbol of your national currency: V°
Value of your national currency when converted to USD: 100 V° = 0.89 USD
Three main exports of your nation: Books, granite and medical equipment
Three main imports of your nation: Steel, fruits, machinery

As an educator I can tell you no nation has a literacy rate of 100. While North Korea may claim they have that is BS. For example someone with very severe learning difficulties like extreme autism will never be able to read and write, therefore that's why you see many developed nations with 99.9%. Finland always tops league tables for education in Europe and has a literacy rate (according to 2012 data) of 98%.

The Formation of the Krokom Iinitiative for Scientific Support (KISS)
[/b]

To all Nations

Several years ago Krokom was selected by the then Union of Nordic People's to build the worlds first and to date biggest Large Haddron Collider. In the years that followed we have uncovered many new secrets of the universe. We have always prided ourselves on our LHC being open to people of all nations who share our interest in science and have long had visitors from East Moreland, Achkaerin and Ui Cenneslaig based here. The LHC project was designed to unite scientists around Mundus like never before. In a similar fashion we have seen the Joint Nordic Space Programme carry out wonderous launches that have made all their data available to the world, including our Longboat 3 project[1]. We ourselves watched on in wonder at the Lunar Three, Solo, Blinkly and Bob, the SwarmBots left behind that after 12 months on the moon came back as media stars. It is projects such as this and the Ui Cennesliag network of telescopes that will help us understand Mundus and our universe so much better.

It is therefore my hope that nations will join with us Nords in Krokom to establish a formal network designed to help science at all levels flourish.

I therefore look forward to people visiting Krokom in the next few weeks and us changing the world of science for the better.

International Organisations / CMA Debate - The Borlander Situation
« on: July 16, 2018, 11:59:53 AM »
Concerned about the recent wave of attacks carried out by the Borlanders

Worried about the potential for further attacks

Aware of the need for a global unified response.

Mindful of the sovereignty of other nations.

The Odinist Republic of Nya Åland  therefore proposes that the CMA, and in this case the wider international community do the following.

1. Publically reaffirm our stances that terrorism will not be tolerated.

2. Share intelligence of these attacks with all nations.

3. Permit the Ålanders to make visits to the "Principality of Northern Borland" to inspect for weapons of mass destruction. Some time ago our nation was the only one to witness the decommissioning of weapons in the Principality and therefore we believe we have a unique connection there that may enable us to do this.

4. Ask President Elwes of Zimalia to implement strict boarder controls on the "Principality"

5. Ask the people of the Principality to sign up to Uppsala Passports, run by the CTO's refugee council. This will give them travel ID documents making their travel around Mundus easier and more monitorable.

6. Allow the Principality of Borland to become a recognised member of the Uppsala Convention thus making weapons inspections and the like easier to access.

This resolution is now open for debate.

Diplomacy and Events / Re: An offer to Seaforth
« on: July 09, 2018, 11:50:35 AM »
This visit was going to be unlike others in Finley's mind. While he was keen to show people the hospitality he believed the Celts excelled at he knew that in Seaforth he was welcoming a people he saw not as foreigners but as family. It may have been hundreds, maybe thousands, he wasn't much of a scholar, but he knew in the past his people and them from Seaforth shared a common ancestor.

Cait had arrived the evening before. As usual she had travelled alone, her husband King Comegan of Cantabria was still recovering from his car accident and was unlikely to be fit to rule anytime soon and that left Cait as the Regent and major power in her brothers neighbouring nation. Finley had determined that the pair of them should greet the King of Seaforth in person at the airfield, the pair where dressed in identical tartan that Finley had made for the occasion. It combined the dark blue and bold yellow of the O'Shea tartan with white and red of the Rhodes family. Finley wore it as a kilt, and despite the formality of the occasion still insisted on wearing bulky boots rather than formal shoes. Cait meanwhile wore a plane white blouse with the tartan wrapped around her shoulders and around her waist.

Behind them, clad in the same tartan was a large group of pipers and drummers, all taken from local Army and Air Cadet units. Every now and again they'd give a little tune as to keep themselves warmed up and in tune for the arrival. Finley couldn't help but clap after each song and when a more uptempo one began found himself merrily jigging along much to his sisters annoyance.

As the Seaforthian aircraft touched down the pipers began the much practiced anthem as Finley and his sister greeted the new King of Seaforth.
