The large transport aircraft touched down at the airport and inside had Prince Lennox, who frankly would have prefered to still be in Lodja, along with him was his sister Princess Una. The hold of the transport had fifty members of the 1st Kings Own Gallowglass Regiment preparing themselves, the aircraft was a hive of activity as the men checked bearskins, tied socks up with string and but final polishes on their brass buckles.

Lennox was wearing his black Royal Kerns Commando jacket and beret, a royal family kilt had a giant claymore hanging at the hip. He was standing laughing and joking with the Gallowglasses, a regiment he well respected. Meanwhile Una was wearing a simple tartan dress with a white blouse underneath.

"SQUAD...SHUN!" A loud voice bellowed from the rear ramp of the aircraft as the units Colour Sergeant bellowed. He formed the unit up with Lennox in front, the regiments colours and then the pipers, drummers and a small group of the infantry. Normally there would have been the flag of Ui Cenneslaig but Finley had insisted that their flag would not fly on this special day for Somerset. "Right boys, lets put on a show" even before the ramp had fallen at the airport the unit marked time as the pipers began playing a traditional Cenneg march Lennox had drawn his sword which now was held vertically in his right hand as he lead his countryman through the streets towards the venue.

Meanwhile Una watched the sight and then made her way there by car and waited for the Gallowglasses to arrive. As she stood waiting the sound of the pipes could be heard long before the unit came into sight. She waited for her brother to reach her and then the two made their way over to the welcoming commitee. Lennox made his may to Evanthe and sheething his sword reached into his sporoon. "We couldn't think of a fitting large gift, so after consulting some of the Druids we came up with this." he handed over a single silver Punt, a coin worth less than $1. It was however specially minted with King Finley's head on one side and the map of Somerset on the other. "Those coins are being minted for the next six months back home. As it is tradition to cross a new born babies palm with silver I hope you'll accept the first to be minted.....sadly it won't buy you a whiskey" Lennox smiled, "We also hear you have a few border concerns so the fifty bandsman we've got down there just happen to have packed their camo gear and a rifle or two. If it pleases you they'd be staying on for a month, in the meantime I believe you may be meeting my big brother, so who knows perhaps they won't be too lonely."

The Head Gothi has announced that he will be paying a "Low key and informal" visit to Marseilles. During the Materna Crisis members of the nations military undertook a range of special operations alongside a resistance cell called Real Marseilles. In the final stages of the conflict members of the Houscarl Commando unit helped the members of Real Marseille take the capital under their control and install a provisional government. It is thought some 20 members of the Houscarls died in the fighting along with three air force pilots. The numbers have never been confirmed due to the nature of Houscarl operations, however Ulfsson did say, "The families of those who died freeing Marseilles while protecting our nation will always know the truth. It is important we remember those brave men who are in Valhalla."

It was announced that while he is in Marseille he will visit the graves of all the fallen and leave Mjölnir pendants as a mark of respect. Additionally he will meet with members of Real Marseille, including their commander and the nations first President, Jacques Papin. Accompanying the Head Gothi will be Major Noah Heikke, a former member of he Houscarls who served in Marseille, the Major was one of the first soldiers into the capital and fought alongside Papin's men. The Major says, "Revisiting that city is a moment of great importance to me. A chance to pay respect to my men who didn't make it home." Furthermore it was confirmed that Heikke will make Papin and several of his men honourary Houscarls. "It is important we recognise fellow Warriors. These men fought side by side with us and will always be part of our unit."

Following this trip it is thought the Head Gothi will attempt to form other meetings across Mundus.

NEW KROKOM TEMPLE TO BE BUILT

The new Head Gothi has announced that a new large temple, the first in twenty years, is to be built in Krokom. The Temple which shall be dedicated to all the Gods, shall be the largest Odinist Temple in the nation and quiet possibly the world. The temple will cover an area about the size of a football pitch and have two levels above ground and four below. Additionally a compound will surround it containing gardens and shrines. Head Gothi Stein Ulfsson announced the decision saying, "We are a nation dedicated to the glory of Odin and his fellow Gods, yet for twenty years no new temples have been built, I know many of us prefer to worship in the outdoors, and this design still allows that, but I also want to show the world our pride in our faith."

The temple will be totally carbon neutral with wood forming the primary building material, additionally the temples heat and electricity will be provided by geothermal energy and likely include use of one of Krokom's many heated springs. The exact location has yet to be confirmed with chief Engineer of the project saying, "Not only do we want to give the Gods the perfect building it needs to be in the perfect spot. We shall examine the omens in the coming days and work out a perfect spot to enable the faithful to enjoy this new marvel."

Within hours of the announcement around 30,000 voulenteers had signed up to be part of the construction team with several large building companies pledging their craftsman if needed. One carpentry business which employs some 3,000 workers said, "This is a great idea and many of our workers wish to use their skills to help bring it into existance, we shall permit them as much time off as they need to complete the work if they wish to be involved. I would be proud to say our workers had even the smallest contribution to an epic project." Furthermore local schools are being asked to design carvings of the Gods for inside a move the Head Gothi described as "a lovely way to get the next generation to love the idea of celebrating our faith."

The Head Gothi also indicated that Operation Hringhorni will resume, however with some differences from Daniel Stenberg's original plan. Head Gothi Ulfsson explained saying, "Daniel had the idea of bringing all Odinists home. While that would be the dream, to have us all united in one nation under one banner, what we will settle for though is support Odinists across the globe and so the voyages of Hringhorni will begin again, this time as an education centre inviting people to learn about our faith, our culture and our way of life." It is expected the vessel will set sail in the coming days but no destination is known.

Following an announcement from the Lakhzov State News Company that they are deploying missiles to Saheristan capable of "striking land targets in the Iwi peninsular" the Ui Cenneslaig navy would be willing to deploy a fleet to sit in the Sea of Kyne in order to support our Maori allies. If accepted we shall send the following contingent.

The three candidates aiming to become the next Head Gothi yesterday visited the Longhouse, they were given a tour of the building, meet the various representatives working there and meet with civil servants who gave them each a briefing on the way the office works. They were joined for part of the tour by Home Affairs Minister Birgit Strand, possible the nations most experienced politician. Miss Strand said, "It should be remembered that unlike other nations our leader is not a career politician, they are a spiritual person who is an expert on the faith therefore guiding us in the way the Gods would be proud of. Furthermore they are often not from a background where intricate knowledge of government procedures is important. This briefing is kind of a way of them seeing if this is really what they want to dedicate the next five years of their life to."

Each where then given thirty minutes to address the Longhouse and a further thirty minutes to answer questions. This was screened live on 24 hour news and around 40% of the nation tuned in at times. Here at our publication we have summarised each candidates stances.

UPDATED MEMBERSHIP

Following a lengthy mission in space the nations Longboat 3 probe is due to dive into the atmosphere of  Nintura before burning up in a fireball that may be observable from Mundus. Teams of scientists from what is now the Joint Nordic Space Programme will gather in mission control to bid farewell to a probe that has given us more data on Nintura than ever before. The probe has spent time manouvering around the planets various moons as well as completing a number of dangerous manouvers taking it between the planets famous rings. Within the next six hours it is predicted that  radio communications will be lost with the two-ton, bus-size spacecraft as it plunges into the giant planet’s turbulent atmosphere at more than 122,000 kilometers per hour. Within seconds the gas streaming around the plummeting probe will reach temperatures hot enough to melt its aluminium chassis, followed by the iridium cladding that shields its plutonium power source. With its radio link to Mundus severed, Longboat’s last “transmission” will be the light from this fireball, a modest blaze that astronomers might glimpse from telescopes across Mundus. A minute after its final signal, the sophisticated spacecraft will be reduced to a rapidly dissipating spray of vaporized metal some 200 kilometers beneath it's graves swirling cloud tops.

The mission has  sent back about 635 gigabytes of data, much of it consisting of gorgeous images. That may seem underwhelming by today’s terabyte-saturated technologies however for a mission planned over twenty years ago with so much ambition the results have been highly impressive. Around 8million people have been following the probes official twitter account where mission control has been posting images and updates from a probe which is significantly older than the social network. One of the highlights of the mission was spotting for the first time plumes of water vapour being shot high into the planets skies, plumes that in the final years of the mission Longboat first photographed and then flew through collecting unique data. The probe is now running out of fuel, and keen to avoid the spacecraft spinning out of control—striking and potentially contaminating Enceladus or Titan with any lingering Mundus-born microbes—mission planners are deliberately crashing Longboat into the planet, turning it into a makeshift atmospheric probe. As it plunges into Nintura’s clouds it will operate eight of its instruments and use its thrusters to keep its high-gain antenna pointed toward Mundus as long as possible, transmitting as much information as it can about the atmosphere’s composition until it is overwhelmed and tumbles into oblivion. Some think that data could help scientists refine their understanding of Nintura’s origins and early evolution.

The team who have run the Longboat Mission have spoke of their sadness and joy at the completion with Dr. Momssen, one of the projects longest serving members and a member of the team who witnessed the launch long ago, said. "This is the final hours of a life of work. Many of the team have dedicated their whole adult lives so far to learning about Nintura and in a few moments that will be over. It will take years to sift through the data and images we have collected, but many of us as engineers, technicians and mission controllers will not be part of that. For me this will be my final mission, at 61 I will be retiring, it seems fitting to go when Longboat does. It's been an adventure and I am proud that a mission that was intended to simply overfly and photograph the moons has achieved so much more. Many of the scientists who started Longboat died in the UNP Disaster, I hope they too will today be looking down and smiling as our baby completes its epic voyage." It was left to Dr.Momssen to transmit the order for the final dive and as he did so he recited a prayer normally used at funerals.

Following of the passing of the deadline to submit candidacy for the successor to the late Daniel Stenberg there have been three candidates put forward. To be eligable to stand for the position the person must have been born within Åland, celebrated their 35th birthday, served a minimum of five years as a Gothi at a shrine and have no criminal record. The three candidates will now have until the 1st October to run their campaign before the nations voters take to the ballots. The successor to Daniel Stenberg will be only the 2nd Head Gothi in the nations history and will assume responsibility for guiding the nation both spiritually and in terms of the nations foreign policy direction.

The three candidates are profiled below.


Konrad Gulbrandsen

Konrad is the youngest of the three candidates at the age of 38. He currently is the Custodian of the Shrine of Thor in Grunwald, a position he has held for the last eight years after finishing military service in the Marines of the former Union of Nordic People, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He is a keen fisherman and has been an invigilator in the last two whale hunts held at Spotswald. His current manner of employment is as a shipwright, is married and has two daughters aged 5 and 2. He has very little political experience beyond the work carried out as a Custodian. He was rumoured to have been present when Daniel Stenberg died, but has so far refused to comment on this. He is known to believe that the path set forth by Daniel Stenberg was a good one for the nation and believes that more could be done to make the nation more self reliant. He has also spoke of the nation expanding militarily in order to be able to fulfil obligations to Uppsala without relying on East Moreland, Achkaerin and Lodjain troops, a group he described as "gifts from Odin"


Stein Ulfsson

The 49 year old Hjalmby native is the current Gothi at his local shrine to Tyr and currently works as a Literature teacher at a local secondary school. He is known to be a keen supporter of the arts and at one time was part of the Union of Nordic People's National Theatre Company. He is known for his outspoken views that education needs massive investment and has made this one of his priorities. He has worked in Uppsala during school holidays and helped establish educational centres there with support from East Moreland's Melissa Lusk. He is married and has three children (Two daughters aged 19 and 16, One son aged 10). He has spoken that if elected he will seek to push Nordic culture as a means of establishing better relations with nations beyond those who supported Uppsala. He has also been highly critical of the CTO calling it "a weak talking shop"


Tessan Victorsson

The only woman to nominate herself the 70 year old served briefly as a Junior Foreign Minister in the Union of Nordic People before resigning in order to follow a path studying theology.  She currently is the Gothi for Heimdall in Krokom as well as an archivist for the Odinic Order. She was a part time seamstress while raising her three children, (1 son aged 42, two daughters aged 38 and 35) as well as caring for her various grandchildren. She has voiced concerns about the nation needing to stand strong in the face of foreign pressure regarding what she has described as "Unjust international laws" as well as being a believer that foreign influence will weaken the nation. She has called for the creation of an Odinist Foreign Legion as a peacekeeping force in Uppsala stating, "The Morelanders, The Achkaerin and Lodjains, even the Maori, have done a tremendous job, but we should be self-reliant and Odinists across Mundus will be given a chance to serve the Gods".

Each of the candidates will be invited to address the Odinic Council in a televised session, the running order for these being determined by lots with one candidate speaking each day. Furthermore it is likely that each will run substantial campaigns travelling around the nation.

The site had had been specially decorated for the occasion, mistletoe branches tied to make an archway and timber poles arranged in a circle each with a different rune carved into them. It had taken Daniel Stenberg, Head Gothi of Nya Åland weeks to preapre in secret, his hand was not as steady as it had been in his youth but he had enjoyed the work. He sat on a rock overlooking the Sea of Alucard, a light dusting of early morning snow had turned the shallow stone beach a smooth white blanket. The crunch of several sets of feet alerted him to the approaching group. "Good Morning" he said without turning around, his eyes enjoying the sight of the grey mist rolling off the Sea as the sun crept into the sky. Soon he was joined by ten men, all dressed in furs, they sat on the rocks and logs around him as though expecting some words of wisdom.

"Good morning Your Holiness" the taller of the men said as he puck a rucksack down on the snow.

"Henrik, how long have we known each other, twenty, twenty five years?" Daniel asked as he finally removed his gaze from the ocean giving the man a friendly hug. "Have you brought what we require?" he asked as he began looking into the rucksack.

"Yes, everything you put on the list" Henrik replied as he handed Daniel a metal box the size of a cigrarette carton. Daniel flipped the lid open and a flint and striker was visible, he took it out and crossed to the pile of wood nearby that he'd collected first thing that morning. His hand trembled as he tried to strike the two together, it was difficult and took several attempts, the men around him light heartedly teasing him as he tried one last time, thankfully it took and twenty minutes later a roaring fire was raging. Then men had all taken seat on logs around it and passed amongst them horns of mead and pieces of salt fish. For a good hour until the sun was fully up they sat, drank, sang and ate.

Daniel finished his horn of mead and stood putting a couple of new logs onto the fire, "You can't let this go out" he instructed two of the men, younger than the others these were Henrik's sons and they nodded obediently. "Now once this is done there is a letter for each of you" Daniel walked around the group handing each of them a white envelope sealed with the Head Gothi's seal. "It means what you do today you are doing on my orders and that I accept fully the consequences, keep them safe." he watched as each of them placed their letter in a pocket of their rucksacks. "Now, Osvald, its not too late for you to change your mind?" he asked as he continued

"I was about to ask you the same question" Osvald, a tall muscular man with a long greybeard chuckled as he slipped off his fur jacket and white shirt leaving just a heavy steel torque around his neck bearing the marks of a Gothi.

"Unlike you I have no choice" Daniel said grimly as he removed the axe from its protective covering.

"That's just a lump of heavy weight" Osvald unsheathed a sword, "Sword beats axe, just let the other man swing himself out and then gut him." Osvald was a great swordsman and as such knew he could stay away from an axe easily.

"Well that's reassuring" Daniel managed a smile and pulled his long greying hair into a pony tail through a leather thong. "Lets do this" he urged and the two men began circling each other as the others watched. Daniel grunted and swung the axe in a powerful arc aimed at Osvald's stomach, it was a mighty blow but the taller man just stepped back as it whistled into thin air, Daniel wasn't done though he now swung downward hoping to split his opponent in half. Osvald raised his sword letting the axe bounce harmlessly away. The swordsman came forward now and lunged for the Head Gothi who narrowly twisted away, next the sword lunged at the arm and nearly found its mark. The two traded parries and blows for a few minutes, but it was clear Daniel was tiring, the weight of the axe, the snow and his health all slowing him down. "Do it! Do it now!" a heavily breathing Daniel screamed as he hefted his axe, he never swung it as Osvald came forward burying the sword in Daniels stomach, the Head Gothi slumped forward, his warm red blood pouring onto the virgin white snow turning it pink in places. He collapsed onto his knees before slumping onto his side. "The axe....I dropped the axe" he stammered as he fumbled with his right hand.

One of the men in the circle stepped forward scooping up the weapon and wrapping Daniel's hand around it tightly. As one the men, along with Daniel, began praying.

"Lo, There do I see my Father
Lo, There do I see my Mother and
My Brothers and my Sisters
Lo, There do I see the line of my people back to the beginning
Lo, They do call to me
They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla
Where thine enemies have been vanquished
Where the brave shall live Forever
Nor shall we mourn but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death."

As Daniel reached the final words Osvald slit his throat ending his life. The group stood around for a few moments contemplating what they had just done, it was a middle aged bald bearded man who broke the silence. "Right, get him in the boat, Tobias" he turned to one of the two boys tasked with looking after the fire, "Film this" the youngster obediently did as ordered and his phone captured them scooping up his body which they'd washed using sea water so that no blood was visible, dressing him in a long white Gothi's robe, mistletoe tied in his hair and beard. They lowered him onto a boat, filled with bracken, twigs and soaked in oil.

Osvaled placed the Head Gothi's axe into the boat followed by the others who all placed an object alongside him, horns of mead, game pieces, silver plates, all the things a warrior would need in the afterlife. Once prepared he spoke, "We send to Valhalla a brave man who died in battle, a weapon in his hand, a true heroes death. He will go ahead and keep a place by the fire for us all and a horn of mead ready for when we arrive. May Odin accept him" With that the group ignited the boat and pushed it out into the Sea of Alucard, the First Head Gothi of Nya Åland going to Valhalla in the quiet unassuming way he had lived his life.

Tomorrow afternoon the King and his sister Princess Una will turn on the Extremely Large Telescope, possibly the largest telescope on Mundus with a diameter of  39.3 m. It is expected that from this site, built in the Highlands, that an unprescidented view of the solar system will be possible. The project was pushed for by Princess Una who has a keen interest in astronomy herself having been the President of her universities Astronomy Society. In the coming weeks three other telescopes using a variety of techniques will also be activated forming the Southern Skies Observatory. It is also expected that a further telescope being built in Lodja and one in East Moreland will also feed into the network making it the most extensive star gazing network on Mundus. The Princess has already spoken of her excitement saying. "I'm proud that our nation has invested so heavily in scientific advancement, while others are building weapons we're building things to learn about the galaxy. Its exciting to think what we could discover."

It is also expected that scientists from all the CNN nations will be present at the turn on, something King Finley was keen to emphasis, "The CNN is not a military alliance, it covers a whole range of co-operation and science is just one facet, possibly the most important. The more that we learn the better we can take care of our world and ourselves, I hope that having the brightest minds from four nations working together to learn all we can from this will show great results soon."

Queen Ríona has today announced that she is expecting her third child. The Queen, who is 41 years of age has been married to King Finley since 2005 and the pair already have two children, Prince Keane (Aged 11) and Princess Isobel (age 7). There has been several misreported pregnancies over the past few years however this time it is believed the royal couple choose to wait until the Queen was three months pregnant before making the announcement which was read at the Palace gates by King Finley's chief of staff Miss Adeen O'Lone before leaving the notice on the gates. Later in the day the King was seen watching his son Keane during his Gaelic Football practice where he also enjoyed a drink with other parents. As he left he spoke briefly with the press saying he was "Excited and nervous about becoming a father again."

Queen Cait of Cantabria, the King's youngest sister took to Twitter to share her joy saying, "Looking forward to meeting new nephew/niece and seeing UC soon". Queen Cait is due to visit the nation for the turn on of the ELT and is likely to spend a few days catching up with her family.

The Assembly of the Clans is the nations elected parliament. The nation is divided into 200 geographical areas known as seats. Every five years the nation elects representatives known as Assemblymen (or women) to represent their area. NA Socialist Party (UNPSP)

The NASP stand for the removal of social inequality and the introduction of social reforms to make a fairer and more equal community. The party promote a brand of what they call Social Odinism.

Conservative Future (CF)

The CF stands for traditional family values and supports a Pro-traditionalist agenda. The Party also takes a hard stance on crime and punishment.


Liberal Nord Alliance (LNA)

The party promotes freedoms in all parts of society and believes it is the only purpose of government to protect people's rights. They have a commitment to use referendum more than is currently the case.

Nya Åland became an independent nation in 2015 after splitting away from the Union of Nordic People citing a belief that the religious nature of their country and the more secular UNP were no longer compatible. The nation had been part of the UNP since 1787 and left on good terms. Since becoming independent the Ålanders have been rather big critics of several international decisions, namely an attempt by the CTO to impose on their EEZ, the mismangement of the Marseille campaign and then more recently the Uppsala Crisis.

In mid 2016 a major tragedy befell the UNP seeing tens of millions die, it was Åland and her partners (mainly East Moreland and Achkaerin) that stepped in and this lead to Nya Åland legally "annexing" what remained of the UNP in order to restore law and order. Since then the Ålander government supported by East Moreland, Achkaerin, Himeyama, Lodja and The Iwi have sought to rebuild Uppsala where around 5 million refugees live.
