In the last few days the Kingdom of Vaguzia has placed sanctions against Nya Åland because Vaguzia are "against the killing and imprisonment of whales by Nya Åland" The "imprisonment" of whales comes following the discovery of what the media are calling a "Whale Farm" within our nation. Due to the remoteness of this region it was brought to our government's attention at the same time as the media. The Vaguzian sanctions coming less than 48 hours since its discovery. The "WHale Farm" is run by a private company and as legal due process is yet to be carried out no government response to the issue has yet been forthcoming. We believe it unreasonable to expect within 48 hours our nation to have investigated, heard legal cases and imposed penalties on any wrong doing. Furthermore the "killing of whales" is reference to our annual whale hunt carried out by two villages. These hunts are done in such a way as to ensure only the targetted species is killed. That species is the Pilot Whale which is classed as an animal of Least Concern by international conservation groups such as the Wild Mundus Organisation. It is worth noting that other nations, such as East Moreland, also hunt animals classed as "Least concern" and consume them, while nations such as Rokkenjima and Achkaerin regularly have on their menu tuna, a fish of which there are four species, three of which are classed on the "Threatened" spectrum, yet no sanctions are put in place on them. Vaguzia in its own words stated the motivation for the sanctions was "For hunting on whales, which is an endangered species of animals" yet we have proven in our case this is a  lie and that other non-sanctioned nations hunt animals much more endangered. With this in mind we request the Council of Albion to support us in this unjust time by applying the following.

1. Release a statement recognising these sanctions as unjust.

2. Impose upon Vaguzia the same sanctions as they are imposing on us.

3. Demand Vaguzia lift their sanctions against our nation, a fellow member of the Council.

We look forward to your support.

Lodja believes that the reasoning behind these sanctions are flawed, inaccurate and therefore illegal. We would urge Vaguzia to reconsider them. While we believe that it is important to conserve endangered species we also believe that due process in legal terms should be permitted to take place. Nya Aland should be given time to investigate, ajudicate and if neccessary legislate against "Whale Farming", this is a practice Lodja has no laws legislating as it is a practice we would not have thought possible. Therefore to only give the Alanders 48 hours to do such a thing is unrealistic. I would urge the Kingdom of Vaguzia to lift these sanctions with immediate effect only if an undertaking is given by Nya Aland that they will lift their own sanctions against Vaguzia and additionally put legislation in place to ensure such practices that have been discovered in Nya Aland are no longer permitted. We furthermore urge other nations to explore whether their own nations legislation would ensure this practice can not happen.

Signed

King Leopold on behalf of Queen Klara.

We inform the Council that Vaguzia have lifted the sanctions in place against our nation. In the coming days and weeks we will be investigating this alleged "whale farm" and taking appropriate action. Our fear however is that we have our nations annual whale hunt on the horizon and that ill informed members of the international community may attempt to take actions against us.

We are therefore at this time asking people to ignore our original request to the Council and instead give their support to the statement we wish to release in regards to our whale hunt.

Quote from: Statement

In the coming month the annual Nya  Åland whale hunt will take place. This annual hunt is regulated by the government of  Åland and only Pilot Whales, which are not listed as an endangered or threatened species, are killed. Each year a strict quota is set, this is based on scientifically approved data as well as the nutritional needs of two remote villages. In 2017 because of the Krokom Crisis we saw a record high number of whales killed, in total 183 were hunted. It is estimated that the Ministery of Farming and Fisheries will this year set the number at around 80. During the time of the whale hunt security of our home waters shall be tightened as in previous years we have seen attempts to interfere from outside nations. We therefore call on the world to recognise the following.

1. No endangered species are purposely hunted as part of this process.
2. Every nation has the right to determine its own fisheries policy within its recognised EEZ.
3. Interference with another nations EEZ is an aggressive act.
4. All nations have the right to food security for their citizens.

We hope that our fellow Council members will lend their support to these four principles.
