Grand Seal of the State of Halych

Flag of the State of Halych

СЛАВА ГАЛИЧУ! ГЕРОЯМ СЛАВА!

The State of Halych is the governing body of the lands of the Halychian or Kalieshi Rus'. Officially a Parliamentary Republic (although in practice a military dictatorship), it was established following the Halychian Civil War of 2019 - 2022. Historically a weak state since the 90s, it was dominated by warring factions for three years following the collapse of the Republic. The republic was founded in 1997 following the deposition of the People's Republic of Halych, which came after its own failure to reclaim Volhynia, often blamed on Daitōjin interference. As of the present, Halych has found itself recovering from civil war.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

The geography of Halych is dominated by forests and plains, with the River Vysa running the length of the country into Volhynia. The south of the country is known for its rocky terrain, with a small mountain range, the Kamin', making up part of the southern border with Christopol. On that note, Halych is bordered to the south and west by Christopol, as well as by Tuva and Ellista to the east. Volhynia borders the nation to the north-east, and due north is the Rodinian Sea.

Climate-wise, winters in Halych are known to become quite harsh, with the lowest temperature recorded in the country being at -27 degrees celsius; this was recorded in the city's Capital, Zhytomyr, on January 13th, 1971. On average, the lowest it gets is -13 degrees celsius nationwide, save for the southern-most region, where it rarely gets below freezing.

Demographics of Halych

Religions of Halych

The majority of the Halychian population belongs to the Orthodox branch of Christianity, with about 86.3% practicing the faith. Another 4.8% belongs to other branches of Christianity, mostly of the Eastern Catholic (i.e. in communion with the Pope in the Ecclesiastical State) sect. 4.2% identifies as Rodnovery, or Rus Neopaganism, as it is occasionally known. The remaining 4.7% identifies mostly as atheist or agnostic, with a small scattering of other faiths also being present within the nation, with a small minority of Helusians existing along the coast. Some practitioners of the Teidō faith also exist, mostly along the border with Volhynia due to the latter's rule by the Empire of Daitō in the 20th century.

Landmarks of Halych
Structures
Saint Januarius Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saint Januarius is a cathedral and monastery complex in Zhytomyr built in the 12th century. Narrowly avoiding destruction in the 1970s during the revolution, it underwent significant repairs in 1998 during the administration of President Savaryn. The church is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks, often being seen as symbolic of the nation. Historically, the Grand Prince and later King of Halych was crowned within the cathedral, and it has become a symbol of the Monarchist movement within the nation. The structure is located on the shore of the Rodinian sea.

The Cathedral of Saint Januarius is the seat of the Halychian Orthodox Church, a junior patriarchate to the Patriarchate in Novyy Rim.

The Verkhovna Rada building

The Verkhovna Rada building in Zhytomyr is the de-jure seat of the Rada of Halych. Built in the 1920s to hold the Rada of the Kingdom of Halych, it was converted into the seat of the Supreme Soviet of the People's Republic of Halych in 1972. It remained in this role until the 1997 revolution, after which it became the seat of the Rada of Halych. Following the end of the civil war, it has fallen into disuse, although the government has pledged to restore its use when the present crisis ends. Despite this, many suspect that said crisis will not truly end and the days of democratic rule are at their end.

The Blue Palace

The "Blue Palace" was, prior to the civil war, the official residence of the President of Halych. Originally built in the early 19th century, it formerly served as a residence of the King of Halych, who primarily stayed at the more famous Red Palace. Located across from the Verkhovna Rada building, it is presently the residence of the Vozhd of Halych and seems likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.

The Red Palace

Known for its reddish faηade and tight passage inwards, the Red Palace is located 20 km outside of Zhytomyr, along the coast of the Rodinian Sea TBA
