Vignettes / Rowe's Last Stand
« on: March 13, 2024, 09:19:02 PM »
Location: Admiral Rowe's Office
Time: 10:24 AST

"Here you are, in my office whilst she," he pointed to a screen, "is out there living her best life, the adoring heart of millions. You'd of been better off if you'd let me kill her as I originally proposed because," Rowe sighed, "your harlot will only cause us trouble moving forward. Look," he placed his hand on Stanley's shoulder, "my first wife heard details she would of been better off not knowing, I had her smothered in her sleep and I haven't lost a wink over it. Yet here we have," he said as he pulled up a video of Rowe's wife "out there singing songs about you and your failed marriage. Are you that afraid of her that your manhood died somewhere along the way?" Rowe asked as he folded his hands underneath his chin.

"Good gods man, I don't want her death," Stanley said in repulsion, to which Rowe sighed, "This bitch," he said as the video played, "will be your undoing, she might not have her intelligence apparatus anymore, she might lack the sanction of the Imperial Government, but she'll undo you. Give me the word and I'll see her voice never sings again, she'll be but a page in your history, and your humiliation will end. Do you agree to let me help you?" Rowe said as he extended his hand to which Stanley extended his. "Then I can assure you, her performance at the Association Fest will be her last, and there will be no blood on your hands as a result. We're eliminating a common enemy," he paused as he laid his hand on Stanley's shoulder, "she ceased to be your wife long before this point. "And when we take out this common enemy, I trust you'll play your part?" Rowe continued.

"I'll be a sad husband, I'll cry, and I'll play my role in the affair," Stanlley would reply. "Good boy," Rowe said as he again placed his hand on Stanley's shoulder, "you learn quickly. We'll silence this bitch once and for all, I promise you. You're on the right side, you know?"

War and Conflict / Eavesdropping
« on: March 13, 2024, 08:30:43 PM »

IRN Excalibur, somewhere in the Great Northern Sea.

"The flowers are in bloom on the trees your father planted so many years ago and the birds, how they sit upon the branches and sing their songs proudly, I've included an attachment of that with this message. I hope you face fair seas and following winds, I'll see you when you get home, love." Sophia touched the screen before her as a bush warbler sang out from the speakers. She didn't have time to pen a response in the moment, however, as some manner of communication would be required with the Achkaerinese given her presence in their back yard. As an added benefit, however, she would be capable of speaking with friendly forces far outside the earshot of Rowe. Knowing that most means of communication would be monitored back home she sat down at the backup communications station, placed her finger upon the telegraph key, and began to tap out a message at 25% of the power of the radio equipment. This would ensure the message was within range of the Achkaerinese, but not within any Rokkenjiman stations which would otherwise be listening in.

Translation: Vice Admiral Sophia Forrester to Achkaerinese. Please dispatch an officer to my vessel at your earliest convenience. We need to talk.

Meanwhile, IRN Edward Truden, an Obeisance Class battleship and IRN Hinagiku, a Kashiwa Class destroyer, proceeded to their berths in Setri, whilst IRN Hunting Girl took position beneath the waves of the Gulf of Safraen, maintaining her position above an underseas cable due to her stabilizers which enabled her to maintain such a position against the forces of underseas currents. Siphoning the data of a foreign nation was always be a risky proposition, however, the silence of Hunting Girl aligned with her suite of weapons and defenses offered a capability most nations could not afford. Indeed, the presence of three decoy submarines, should their victims be looking for anything underneath the waves that is, would give Hunting Girl the breathing room she needs to complete her mission. Still, even with that, the presence of the Excalibur Strike Group in the midst of the Unitary State and Achkaerin, combined with the port of call in Clysperis, Sophia was confident she had given Hunting Girl the cover she needed to complete the mission.

Diplomacy and Events / An Inquiry To King Aldwin VI of Weißenwald
« on: March 03, 2024, 10:27:58 PM »

Your Majesty,

I would wish to offer my congratulations, albeit late, on the success of the Council of Small Nations. I have followed the developments surrounding the Council and, while the Kingdom of Clysperis is just over twice the size mandated for membership, I feel that the experiences of small nations and the Kingdom are similar; like those of the Council the Kingdom has shared experiences with those nations larger, and more entrenched so to say, that those outside of that coterie have not, at least not within recent memory, experienced themselves. It is for these reasons that I wish to speak with you to explore a few options which, if such desires are shared within the Council, for a relationship of cooperation and partnership with the Kingdom. It is indeed with a sense of hesitation that I broach this topic, mindful that the Council did not have a nation such as the Kingdom in mind in its formation. Thus it is with respect and understanding I will respond if this inquiry is not appropriate.

While the Kingdom may be a "larger" nation, we share the concerns as espoused by the Council, we too desire a more fair, equitable and multi-polar Mundus, and one which sees that nations are not respected because they are great in size of population, economy or military capacity, but that the nations of Mundus are respected through a mutual respect of sovereignty, a respect which sees the differences between peoples and nations not as something which should be a source for conflict, but as something which should instead be celebrated.

I hope that we may be able to meet to discuss the ideas I am proposing however, as I stated earlier, if they are inappropriate to the vision you have I shall take no offense if you decline them at this stage and would be open to exploring options of a more bilateral manner directly between Clysperis and Weißenwald if that's something you would be more comfortable with. Whatever path you set forth from here, I will be looking forward to your reply and the opportunity to explore a path of coordination between our nations and people, regardless of the final shape that path should take.

Yours;

Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, Sovereign of Sovereigns, Divine of Appearance, Beloved of Amun, Chosen of Ra, Lord of the Three Lands, Ruler of Justice like Ra, High Priest of Every Temple, the Eye of Horus, Voice of Ma'at, Satisfied is the heart of Ra.

"We Stand On Guard For Thee"
Stories From Vice Admiral Sophia Forrester

Location: Imperial High Command
Time: 7:45 AST

She knew that a reckoning would be coming, and today was the day. Less than forty eight hours following the operation against Camp Taryō Rowe was looking for answers. "How did this occur without my knowledge?" he asked as he slammed his fist against the desk before pausing. "Did the years we served together mean nothing, the loyalty, the trust? Not even speaking of the disrespect of the Empress declining to meet with me, instead having me speak with the fucking Seaforthian," he struck the desk again. "I've been humiliated publicly, twice, not to mention the usurping of my authority over the Imperial Rokkenjiman Armed Forces. That's three humiliations," he trailed off, looking toward the sea, "at least two of which you've had a hand in."

"Grand Marshall," she began, "even you must realize that the SIS overstepped its boundaries in this case. What other action could Pyrettania do but see that the law of the land was enforced? At the end of the day the operation was legally sanctioned, done by the book, though if it makes you feel better I only played my role, as expected, when orders come from the Throne itself. I don't need to remind you that the Empress, not Grand Marshall, is the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Rokkenjiman Armed Forces. Would you have had me commit insubordination?" she let the last word hang in the air for a moment.

"No," Alex replied after a moment and a swirl of the whiskey in his glass, "I suppose I couldn't demand that of you. You did what you had to do to retain your commission, and in doing so saw that I have at least one friend in the Imperial Rokkenjiman Navy. I can't trust Admiral Fujioka, but you," he said as he placed a hand on her shoulder, "we've spilled blood together, shed blood together, I should be commending you instead of berating you for this. You play the game of being on a short leash rather well, and I thank you for that. Soon we won't have to play such games," he said with a grin, "you're relieved."

After she left his office she took the short trip back to mainland Azukishima where Kado was waiting. "So?" he asked as she approached him, "So," she sighed, "he's not the man I served with if that's what you wanted to know. He's there physically, his voice is the same, but he's holding back just enough from me that I can tell something is not quite right inside. That's all I can help you with at this stage, Director." "Maintain control of Camp Taryō for the rest of the week," would come his reply, "my people have been pouring over many reports that need to be reviewed, documented and duly investigated. I recognize this must be difficult for you..." he continued before being interrupted, "no, in fact, it's not. I swore my oath to the Empress, I'll remind you that she held her blade to my neck just as she did yours. If Sutāraito believes me to be her enemy then let her command me," she said as she placed her hand on the hilt of her sword, "and I'll take my life here and now."

"That will not be necessary," Kado said calmly, "you proved your loyalty to the Crown in Taryō. However I fear there will come a time when Rowe may issue orders that are in opposition to the desires of the Empress. Are you capable of seeing that the IRN does not dirty its hands in such a case?" he asked, to which she nodded. "I'll need Cole though," she said, "Rowe may be Grand Marshall but Cole's done so much for our forces even after his retirement, we had a sailor lose his grandmother and grandfather within the same week and he flew out to offer his condolences and comfort to them, he gets letters from the various branches and takes the time to answer each one personally; to many he's not viewed as their former commanding officer, he's Grandpa Henry. I know he was there for me when I left my husband after he had an affair when I was on a long deployment during the Themata-Warsaw conflict. He didn't know me from Adam but here he was, then Grand Marshall in the mess hall, his hand over mine as he assured me it wasn't my fault and that I deserved better, and that better was waiting for me when I got back home. If you want me to succeed in what you're hinting at, Cole is irreplaceable."

"Noted," Kado said, "and I'm sorry to hear that." "You shouldn't be," Sophia smiled as she revealed a locket from her necklace which had a photo of her current husband and herself displayed. "He writes me each day, gives me a look into life back home when I'm on deployment, and won't go to sleep if we have some silly argument, he makes it his mission to solve it before we both go to sleep. Henry was right," she said with a smile, "I deserved better and I found better." "I stand corrected, happily in this case," he said as he stood to leave. "If you have any relevant information for me in the future..." "I already know to provide it," Sophia finished his sentence. "Thank you, it makes my job easier," Kado would simply reply as he departed.

Diplomacy and Events / Intent To Appeal Perjury Conviction
« on: February 09, 2024, 10:38:02 PM »

It is my duty to inform the relevant authorities that Beatrice Anselmo, aka Empress Saisei, has indicated her intention to appeal the perjury verdict issued against her. An attorney will be provided by the Attorney for the Crown to represent her during these proceedings. It is the request of the appellant that the case is tried in a jurisdiction of the courts aside from the Holy Empire of Achkaerin, and it is their full belief that the verdict ignored extreme emotional disturbance displayed by the appellant at the time of the events in question.

A Message To the Empire

Greetings,

While I have been invited to the People's Democratic Republic of Kusan for talks I do not feel that the hosting of such talks between Rokkenjima and the Kusanese are appropriate for a Rokkenjiman representative to touch foot upon Kusanese soil. Given that many options for mediators in our disagreements with Kusan are likely viewed as compromised by the opposing party I wish to issue a request of your assistance in mediating talks between Rokkenjima and Kusan. Following the talks I hope we may have a moment to discuss ties between our nations, as there was a reason beyond being an impartial voice I sent this request to you. I look forward to your response and hope you may aid us in the facilitation of peace.

Respectfully yours;

Sophia Anselmo
Grand Duchess of Josai
Princess of Estvua

Tales From The Hermit Kingdom: Stories From Kusan

Having maintained near total isolation with the world around it since the fall of the Warsaw Pact much is not known to the outside world about the People's Democratic Republic of Kusan. Myths and rumours are common, thus it will be the scope of this collection of stories to offer an inside look into the hermit kingdom that is Kusan.

Considering Intentions

I must ask, ultimately, what are your intentions towards the nation of Kusan? Do you wish to obliterate us as the Rokkenjimans did in the war? Do you seek peace instead of the path they followed? What are the intentions of General Fuji toward the PDRK? Are you willing to educate the young Empress on the historic wrongs of Rokkenjima against the PDRK and advise her why memes are a poor response to Kussn in light of that history?

I am not an unreasonable woman; extend a branch upon which I may sit comfortably and I will consider it. Extend a branch that will lead me to sitting upon it only to fall into the waters below to drown and I shall recognize where your loyalties ultimately are. I look forward to your response.

Respected Comrade General Secretary Ri Sang-Hee

For Immediate Release

On The Matter Of Kalasin

The People's Democratic Republic of Kusan is disappointed by the remarks of General Okuda of the Empire of Daitō which have found false reason for a continued presence in Kalasin, citing "recent provocations by the Democratic Republic of Kusan have only strenghened our resolve in this dark hour. At this time, we cannot withdraw from the region lest it collapse into further ethnic and political violence, which would only serve to weaken the Union Government's authority." Truly to anyone with a set of eyes and ears the PDRK has not engaged in any provocations against the Daitōjin nor those of the Coalition. What the PDRK has done, however, is state in clear language that their operations in Kalasin should be wrapped up swiftly in a manner which sees their forces depart the region sooner rather than later. Furthermore, the PDRK called for international observers to oversee the upcoming elections recognizing that observers from the coalition, which involves three states attacked from various forces within Kalasin, we cannot rule out that coalition observers may not be able to resist the temptations of bias or "guidance" in the process. These elections must be a fair and open reflection only of the desires of the People of Kalasin, not a process through which to implement the designs of the coalition.

If it is provocation to call for an end to foreign military involvement in Kalasin, if it is a provocation to call for free, fair and open elections which are under international, not coalition observation and if it is a provocation for the PDRK to take steps to fortify its borders to prevent the sort of chaos we've seen in Lampang province, chaos which took place under the ever-watchful eye of the coalition, then the PDRK stands proudly against an international paradigm which would see such measures as provocative. The PDRK will maintain its policy of offering hospitality and refuge to those in Kalasin who seek shelter from instability and chaos, as well as those who may feel disenfranchised or otherwise disregarded. Clear instructions have been given to the Kusanese People's Army to welcome individuals presenting themselves as refugees or asylum seekers warmly.

Ideally we would see a concert of observers from Cotf Aranye nations be involved in the monitoring of elections in Kalasin who are unbiased and have nothing to gain from injecting their own ideas and objectives into the electoral process. Any election which is conducted under the sole supervision of the coalition will, rightly, be received with suspicion and any government resulting from such a process will not be recognized by the PDRK.

Diplomacy and Events / Kusan Celebrates Victory Day; An Invitation

An Invitation To Kaesong
The People's Democratic Republic of Kusan

In the coming days I, and the People of Kusan, will join together in Ri-Sŏng-jin Square to mark Victory Day, a date which is important to the Kusanese People and State as it represents our victory in preserving our nation, culture and traditions from the imperialist gaze of the Federal Republic of Rokkenjima. While we have celebrated this victory alone in years past it is my pleasure to invite honoured guests from across Mundus to join us for this years celebration in an event I feel is a most fitting occasion to reintroduce Kusan to the broader world. Following a parade in Ri-Sŏng-jin Square our honoured guests will have the chance to view the Arirang Mass Games and, of course, an opportunity to speak with me as Kusan seeks to forge new friendships and partnerships with our international neighbours.

This invitation is open to all nations except for the First Empire of Rokkenjima and the Empire of Daitō.

Chairwoman: Ri Sang-Hee

Kusanese Isolation Must End, Says Chairwoman Ri Sang-Hee

"Since the fall of the Warsaw Pact Kusan has stood alone; today we take a first big step in returning to the community of nations."

Respected Comrade Ri Sang-Hee aroused the applause of the Supreme People's Assembly as she laid out her ambitions for the People's Democratic Republic in emerging from "our long years in the wilderness of isolation" which followed the collapse of the Warsaw Pact. "We first saw our greatest challenge when the Federal Republic of Rokkenjima sought to burn our lands and lead our People astray in their effort to "reclaim" Kusan despite the fact they never held any power nor sway over our lands nor the People who inhabit them. They wished to bring "democracy and freedom" to our shores drunk on their own propaganda that we lack for both, and as is often the case, words used by powers who so often instead seek subjugation and enslavement in their wake. Neither were to be delivered, yet what we saw behind the facade is the destruction and tyranny the Anselmos so dearly love. Despite the array of forces brought down upon Kusan we stood and, against many odds, we prevailed in preserving Kusan and the Kusanese way of life. When the Federal Republic was defeated by the Anselmo Restoration of 2003 many here in Kusan celebrated the end of nearly a century of cultural genocide and abuses of the Rokkenjiman People at Republican hands; there was hope that we could, perhaps, find reconciliation between us and a Rokkenjima restored to its roots and, as is often the case, we were left disappointed as Anselmoist Rokkenjima viewed the People's Democratic Republic as a threat due to the support and friendship which were forged between Kusan and the Warsaw Powers in the post-war era forced upon us by the Federal Republic."

"Warsaw provided us a model to follow, a model which preserved and has sustained the Kusanese State following the misguided intervention of the Republicans into our lands and, one which continues to preserve Kusan against the many challenges which bore down upon us over the decades to follow that misadventure. The deep hatred held by Rokkenjima for the Warsaw Pact robbed it of an opportunity for reconciliation with the Kusanese People and State; to this day Kusan acts in a defensive posture to the First Empire due to their efforts to undermine the People's Democratic Republic as, in their view, it represents the last functional power of the Warsaw Pact and denies, in their view, their ultimate victory over it. We did not choose this path in our relations to the First Empire, no, it was foisted upon us and we were forced to adapt to those conditions imposed upon us, developing an army of over one million Kusanese to ensure that the day Rokkenjima gives into the darkest aspects of their hearts they will find not victory in Kusan, but a graveyard for those they send as they unwittingly repeat the worst impulses of the Federal Republic: cultural genocide, subjugation, and denying over 29 million people the right of self-determination they so righteously uphold as a paramount right of all Peoples."

"We've seen peoples emerge from periods of isolation far longer than ours; one only needs to look across the Krimeon for such an example in Lijiang. They also share an unfortunate experience with the People of Kusan in their maltreatment by the First Empire in an episode of diplomatic embarrassment for Rokkenjima in the form of the events surrounding the formation of the MAEA. Despite our differing systems, like us, Lijiang is a nation which is proud of its traditions and is unapologetic in its approach to foreign powers; it did not blink nor bow when the vitriol of Pyrettania was brought down upon it. Though Empress Evanthe walked into those meetings fully dressed with the pompous smug of her predecessors, by that point, Lijiang showed her to be, in fact, naked; while the Empress spoke and acted as if it were 2014 she in fact traded all of her hard-earned gains post-Saisei for what is in effect a building in Rokkenjima and an inert Agency to inhabit it. We feared them for so long, we endured isolation as those who even dared to speak with us could face sanctions, yet even we were guilty of still living in that 2014 world. That changes here, and today, as Kusan welcomes 2024 as a new horizon between us and the world around us."

"To those ends I propose that we follow in the footsteps laid before us by Lijiang, and also to consult them on the path they took toward ending isolation and rejoining the world around them. I feel there is much to learn from them, and while some have raised eyebrows due to the differences I laid out before, I feel there are more similarities than differences in the stories of our histories. I also look to Mktvartvelo with hope, as the platform of National Renovation (MKTERAG) seems to align with many of the beliefs and principles we see in everyday Kusanese life and governance. If we may be an ally to them, perhaps we may see in Mktvartvelo a natural ally to the People's Democratic Republic emerge in the near future, a prospect which is both inspiring and encouraging as we re-introduce Kusan to the broader world. I would be delighted to invite General Secretary Levan Mikaberidze to Kusan to discuss possible paths for the future ahead of us."

"We approach the broader world once again seeking two things," the Respected Comrade paused, "peace and friendship. To those who would welcome us we promise camaraderie and tranquility; to those who would oppose us on blind ideological lines or other illogical grounds, we promise a robust defense of our State and our People; never again will we allow Kusan to be a ground for foreign nations and armies to determine the future of our people. In the coming days Kusan will celebrate our victory over the Federal Republic with a military parade in Ri-Sŏng-jin Square in our capitol, Kaesong. I look forward to inviting many of you to join me and to building the links of friendship which I hope will stand the tests of time. Let us meet, without the biases of others, and work toward a better future for our Peoples and nations. Thank you."

Announcing The Concert of Democracies
A Message To the democracies of Mundus

Greetings and best wishes to my friends and counterparts abroad, I hope this message finds you well.

While we have seen the promise of a union of nations based upon representative government in the Network of Republics I feel that this concept, at least as represented by the Network, is flawed and neglects to represent the many forms of democracy that exist upon Mundus. It is for those reasons that I propose the "Concert of Democracies", an institution I feel shall address the shortcomings of the Network and provide for an association of democratic states which reflects the many interpretations of representative government which exist upon Mundus. Together we shall address the many challenges which exist to maintaining our democracies and, I hope, in providing a network of support for democratic governance across Mundus in a manner which is, to date, presently lacking, I offer what is, my admittedly, bare-bones concept for the Charter of the COD, so that we may fill in the blanks together in strengthening the democratic institutions of Mundus:

Quote
1. The Parties pledge never to use military force, and never to plan to use military force, against one other except in the event of a coup or revolution within a specified member nation.
2. The Parties commit to hold multiparty, free, and fair elections at regular intervals.
3. The Parties commit to uphold internationally recognized civil and political rights for all their citizens and to make these rights enforceable by an independent judiciary, including rights recognized by the MCUR and Abrahamic Declaration.
4. The Parties recognize that sovereign states have a responsibility to protect their own citizens from avoidable catastrophe - mass murder and rape, ethnic cleansing by forcible expulsion and terror, and deliberative starvation and exposure to disease - but that when they are unwilling or unable to do so, that responsibility must be borne by the international community.
5. The Parties undertake to contribute to the further development of peaceful and friendly international relations by promoting liberal democracy as a model of government and by bringing about a better understanding throughout the world of the principles upon which democratic institutions are founded.
6. The Treaty does not affect, and shall not be interpreted as affecting in any way, the rights and obligations under any pre-existing obligations to the same pursuits.
7. Action pursuant to article four and consistent with the purposes of presently existing international law, including the use of military force, may be approved by a two-thirds majority of the parties.
8. Action to enforce the purposes stated henceforth in the wake of a threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression, may be approved by a two-third majority of the parties.

Democracy itself is a delicate force, but one which is most powerful, harnessing the collective voices of a People is no easy task, equally so, no institution which seeks to aid and support democratic governments may form itself without a diverse cast of voices and rationales behind it. It is the hope of this First Empire that we may join together to protect democracy, to support it beyond our boarders, and to be wise stewards of the present to present to those who follow in our steps a roadmap something better. I hope we can join together, in Pytettania, to discuss the terms necessary to establish such an organization. And I hope, together, we can defend democracy, whether it is strong or in its nascent steps.

I look forward to your reply. Yours, in friendship;

The Obscured Anselmo
Stories From Jenka-Jenkinson

Meet Kikyo Hase, born and raised in Jenka-Jenkinson, Kingdom of Dartfordia to Imperial Loyalist parents. While they knew they were serving the interests of the Empire in providing a fail-safe should Rokkenjima suffer any number of complications which could see the annihilation of the Anselmo line (nuclear war at the time, Republican loyalist operations, terrorism) she has lead a mostly normal life outside her guidance by Rokkenjiman intelligence which ensured she was on an educational path to be a stand-in for then Crown Princess Asuna should the Imperial Bloodline be erradicated.

Our story starts as Kikyo battles a rival, one Masanori Shiroma to be Student Body President at a prestigious educational facility in Jenka-Jenkinson. At 16 years of age, and with politics baked into both sides of her parental lineage unbeknownst to her, she begins what she thinks of at this time as the largest challenge of her life. While preparations were made in the case of Beatrice Anselmo being rendered incapable of serving her duties upon Chrysanthemum Throne Rokkenjiman intelligence saw that Asuna, too, would have a back-up in place, safely away from any domestic threats to her life in the predominantly Rokkenjiman inhabited Dartfordian city of Jenka-Jenkinson. Guided toward educational exellence by Rokkenjiman Intelligence Kikyo Hase-Anselmo has quite the story ahead of her.

Diplomacy and Events / The Plot To Destroy Rokkenjiman Democracy
« on: December 09, 2023, 09:21:08 PM »

Pyrena Castle, Pyrettania, as viewed from the helicopter of Beatrice Anselmo.

It was a sight she wasn't expecting to ever see again and yet, here it was, right before her. Pyrena Castle in all of its glory, even if the absence of leaves would paint a depressing picture for some to her, it spoke of home. Each revolution of the helicopter blades above her head brought her several feet closer to touching down and, by the Seven Divine, when her foot touched that familiar stone her foot has always touched when her pilots landed, she instantly felt that much more like herself again. While there had not been much pomp and circumstance at the airport, indeed, her time there had been purposely limited as she transitioned from the Imperial Transport to the awaiting helicopter, here at home she was greeted with lines of familiar faces on each side of the walkway to the Castle itself from the heliport. She couldn't help but tear up as she grasped their hands as she passed them and, to be fair, their eyes were also quite watery. Before entering the Castle she turned her back to the door, bowed to them, and said "It's good to see you all again, I've missed you all so very much, thank you, thank you for these tears," she concluded with a smile before opening the door, feeling and smelling the still familiar aura of Pyrena Castle.

Almost as habit she made her way for her office, it had been her routine for so many years it acted almost upon muscle memory. She placed her coat on the rack, took precisely seventeen steps to her personal stairway, another 14 steps to the second story, and a further seven to the office itself. She smiled, noticing Asuna had taken great care in preserving it in her absence; it was almost as if nothing had been untouched yet the absence of dust indicated that was not the case. Her eyes were drawn, however, to her chair facing the window which sat directly behind her desk, gently rocking even. "Now then," she said with her characteristically playful voice, "who sits behind door number one as I enter what should be an empty room?" After a second or two the chair would turn around, revealing Tamaki Kado who smiled at the Empress before joining his hands together in front of him upon the surface of the desk. "Hello, Beatrice, it's been too long, yes?"

"Ah yes, Kado," she said as she walked to her chair despite his presence in it, "I do believe you're sitting in my seat." Without a word he rose and walked to the seat on the right side of her desk, sitting only after Beatrice herself had. Beatrice had heard much of him from Lucinda. While was a most loyal asset to the First Empire the fact that he was willing to cross lines even Lucinda had questioned made him someone Lucinda had gone lengths to insulate Beatrice from. Still, she knew she could trust that he was an ally, someone whose interests were in the service of his Empire, not in personal gain. "Your Majesty, I thought it would be fitting for me to welcome you home," he continued, "in precisely one minute and thirty seconds we will be joined by Kayleigh Pryde, Hazel Narin and Rion Ayanami. While you are in no position to act or to make any decisions I insisted upon them that the information I am to convey is of relevance to you and, for your own personal safety and that of the Anselmo Family and the First Empire itself, I would not share it with them without your presence."

"Still timing things to the second, I see," she said with a smirk, "very well. If I may ask, why is the Empress not in attendance?" Kado let out an uncharacteristic sigh; in another timeline, at least in Beatrice's mind, Kado and Lucinda were certainly a couple. Borderline sociopaths with a sense of loyalty and duty that could in some cases pave the paths to their very undoing. "You read the news of the developments in Kalasin, the revelations of the atrocities?" Beatrice would nod in response. "Well, the Empress had raw access beyond what was let out in the media," he paused, "I couldn't saddle her with more triggers for the PTSD she's suffering from that. She even surfaced three of our SSGNs to send a message to them; you know as well as I do those boats operate in secrecy, and she even made a triangle with Kalasin in the middle. Naturally the reports weren't made officially, but it was enough that they knew Rokkenjima wouldn't tolerate anything further."

"Very well then," Beatrice said as she hit the button on her smartwatch. "Your timer is up," she said with a smile as a knock came to the door, "So it has," Kado said in response before adding, "Please, do show yourselves in." He had arranged for an additional three chairs, two to the right and one to the left, for the purposes of this meeting.

"Allow me to get straight to business," he said after they had been seated, standing himself. "In the closing days of the reign of the Shizukesa Empress I was approached to start an investigation as to the activities of Grand Marshall Rowe, an investigation which certainly remains in the preliminary stages. Yet, as I looked upon past patterns compared to current patterns in his behaviour, I've been noticing irregularities. Usually, on Tuesdays, he has lunch at a cafe in Pyrettania which specializes in Dartfordian cuisine yet lately he's been declining those opportunities; instead traveling from Imperial High Command to an address in Ashinxaio. Rowe is a man of habbit, almost the very definiton of a creature of habbit; at this stage I merely find it odd that he has made such an abrubt change but know, full well, I will find out why those patterns have changed as they have. In addition and, perhaps more concerning, a supposedly dead man is making purchases and using his cell phone again which, as I'm sure we can all appreciate, are some fairly large red flags even a novice would pick up upon. Empress Beatrice, you have to be careful, these grounds must remain free of an IRAF presence until I conclude my investigation. I would ask that my friends here," he said motioning to the Achkaerinese, "reference the intelligence I am precluded from viewing under Rokkenjiman anti-surveillance laws upon our own people, to see if they notice what I am noticing, and to inform me accordingly."

He paused, sat, and with a chuckle added, "In short, welcome home."

A Message To Achkaerin

As I'm sure you're aware I've ordered the Ministry for Justice to seek avenues to overturn the plea entered by my mother, the Saisei Empress, an order which has been executed at my behest. I am also practical, and would be open to talks regarding the transfer of the Saisei Empress to Pyrena Castle. It's no longer an "official" building utilized by the Imperial Government beyond a residence for the Imperial Family with all institutions housed there being transferred to the Imperial Palace earlier this year. Both Rokkenjiman and Achkaerinese officials know its layout, it's weak points as well as all other security concerns. Whatever transpired in the Andean Tragedy, my mother was not truly responsible for given that her state at the moment was drug induced, as a woman who fought for the restoration of Rokkenjima she deserves to live her days out and eventually die upon the soil she so valiantly fought for. While I am prepared to continue the legal challenge I initiated if you can present an amicable counterproposal my ears are open.

My mother comes home, and even if it's not through the Courts I will see her name cleared as I do not believe she was responsible for the crimes alleged against her, looking at the medical records, the prescriptions, which placed her in that mental state of being of not being capable of reacting as she normally would. If I have to go to a higher court to clear her name I will do so too, because the Beatrice I know has a heart only filled with bettering those around her, anyone who truly knows her can see her actions during the Nueva Andean Genocide were truly uncharacteristic of her. If she were doing these drugs of her own volition it would be one thing, but this was something thrust on her that she never asked for. In my mind, the truly guilty party here will remain Charles Ofdensen; he organized it, he persecuted it, he saw his results, and my mother's name will no longer be soiled by his actions. First we see that she comes home, then we figure out the rest though.

Yours respectfully;

Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima

She had just issued a legal challenge to Achkarerin yet the Empress remained steadfast, "Let them challenge us," she responded. "We are an unarmored ship", she continued, "and if I am up to my snuff on their radar, we're not a threat. Send out a general hail."

It had not been her idea to host an AMA, however, there were some who seemed to think presenting an "open demeanor" would be of benefit to her. She'd go along with this for now, play the role expected of her, though she would hope it would come to an end as she'd made plans to meet with the Empress and have a heart-to-heart. In the mean time she sighed; "Okay then," at least she was doing this in the privacy of her own home, "let's begin," she said as she hit the "post" button.

Diplomacy and Events / Tour of Good-Will: Daitō
« on: November 10, 2023, 01:34:01 AM »

With the assistance of a tug HMY United States manouvers to dock at Shinkyō.

With quite an eventful series of, at times, unexpected events before the Tour had even officially kicked off the Empress was pleased as the United States settled into her berth for the next few days, Shinkyō. Both the capital and largest city of the Empire, and one which had faced horrors inflicted upon it at the hands of the Ardian Empire, Sutāraito couldn't help but think of some of the shared historical experiences they had and how, despite their similarities and experiences, one man could find the right wedge to attempt to drive them irrevocably apart. Her initial meeting with the Emperor had been a stroke of fortune; certainly she had sought ambitions beyond what even her closest advisors said was possible and yet somehow they had found a way to come to fruition. As she often did during their traverse of local waters and dockings she found herself on the port bridge wing, curious onlookers abound would receive a wave from the Empress as the transit and docking were completed without issue.

It would not be since the Dunwich Summit the two had last spoke in person and she hoped that she would prove to be a welcoming and attentive host for an honoured guest of the First Empire. For their first day she had arranged some light activities, opportunities that would allow them to get to know each other on both a professional and personal basis; if her reports were accurate the Emperor didn't have much time to partake in fly fishing these days so she had arranged for Olympic's former and now future tender, Traveller to depart from Rokkenjima as to arrive roughly at the same time as the United States. While not ideal for the task at hand she would serve their purposes greatly beyond the practicality of any attempt from the United States.

She hoped that the Emperor would then take an invitation to helm Traveller and show her some of his treasured sights in the area, a further opportunity to learn from each other on a more personal basis. Following their fishing and sight seeing the Empress would welcome the Emperor to the State Dining Room for a spread of Rokkenjiman-Daitōjin dishes, and they would retire before the next day which would see the addressing of some matters of state. For her part Sutāraito had been working on a proposal for a project which would be jointly completed and worked upon; while the bid had failed to host the World Cup she felt they could still take an action which would symbolize and accomplish the spirit of their joint bid. She was truly excited to share that with Eijirō and hoped that he would be supportive of her proposal. The third day of the visit had been allotted an open schedule for the Emperor to determine events on Daitōjin soil, something the Empress looked most forward to.

When the time came for the Emperor to board the United States the Empress said with a smile "Your Majesty, welcome aboard the United States. I am honoured that the first stop in my Tour of Good-will is with you; I feel as if it's been a bit of a long voyage to this point, what with my stops abroad even prior to its official start. I think I've prepared a day of leisure for us both to relax, better get to know each other, which are important if we're going to be working together for a great part of the future yes? I hope you don't mind, and I apologize that the vessel isn't quite ideal, but I've made arrangements for us to start off with some fly fishing aboard Traveller; aside from the Olympic she is one of two vessels of the original incarnation of the Blue Star Line left in existence. Now I've never been great at fishing in just about any capacity so I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two from you. When you're ready, we shall proceed," she concluded with a warm smile.

SEPTEMBER 2023 UPDATE

A WORD FROM THE GRAND CHANCELLOR

Hello to one and all!

In the coming days the Independent Order will celebrate ten years as a region, and I could not be more confident in our future than I am right now. We’ve overcome so much together, shown the best qualities of our community over this decade, and I believe fully that the next ten years ahead of us will be our best! Over the next few days I’ve heard rumblings of Orderians planning special things to mark our decade of existence, and I’ll leave it up to them to reveal!

We’re more than welcoming for others to join in the fun too! We’ll likely have an event or two on our Discord (invite: https://discord.gg/3xEYKbT2) so if you’re free September 29th to the 30th feel free to join in on the festivities!

ROLE PLAY NEWS (if it's green you can join in)

ASDN SUMMIT - the nations of the Dauntel Sea and Strait of Shaw regions come together in an attempt to form a regional organisation based on cooperation and collaboration, the level of success is yet to be determined however the nations at the table have shown willingness to cooperate over a matter of concern within the region.

COSNAT TALKS - the small (and we mean small) nations of Mundus have come together to try and establish broad relations, talks remain ongoing however if successful the organisation could become something the likes of which the world hasn't seen in a few years.

INAUGURATION OF TESAN CIKNIYE - The newly elected President of Lakhzovia is to be sworn into office, however he cuts a divisive figure with the international community - President, political operator and suspected terrorist Tesan Cikniye is some or all of these things depending on who you talk to. Mundus waits with baited breath to see what the new President intends for the nation he now leads.

CRISIS IN MERSCH - The terrorist group "the Uncrowned" has launched a campaign of terror against the list of candidates to rule the nation of Mersch, several are dead or injured, some are under the protection of East Moreland who are attempting to get a handle on the situation.

STORM IN THE CHANNELS - A separatist regional government in the nation of Kalasin has declared independence from the national government, worse the separatists, aided by terrorists have carried out a missile attack against Daito, a dirty bomb attack in Rokkenjima and struck a Preorian hospital ship. With fears of the separatists long term designs becoming justified as intelligence gathering yields results an international coalition prepares to take action to end this threat before it can spread.

ART OF DIPLOMACY - A painting done by Emperor Orion has gone missing in the nation of Lodja, just what kind of game is afoot? Who took it and why? You'll have to stay tuned to find out just what the heck is going on here.

BACK TO YOUR ROOTS - A straightforward Police flight from Neu Uburzi's to the Iwi brings personal baggage along with it and maybe a helping of redemption, who knows? That may come to depend on King Piripi of the Iwi.

FESTIVAL OF SAIL 2023 - The biggest international event of the year, the celebration of all things maritime is taking place in East Moreland, notable vessels in this years parade included several Royal Yachts from across Mundus, a couple of new military vessels on their first long distance voyages, what may forever be known as "the disco ship" from the nation of Cassiopeia (on account of the lights) and the Viking Longship the Drakken from the nation Nya Aland, favourite of Princess Rhiannon of East Moreland. So far the King of East Moreland, family members and government officials are busy dealing with a number of high profile international guests as the diplomatic side of the event gets into full swing.

GLASTOMUNDUS 2023 - One of the most high profile Mundus Music Festivals is back, once a year music fans, whether they like the rock and roll scene, the pop genre or maybe the easy going showtunes, classic style and quirky acts (that Achkaerin sends to not aggravate hangovers on the morning after the big night) turn up to a field in East Moreland and celebrate music, this years list of applicants is very high quality.

THE DRAGONS HORSEMAN - the nations of Jargalant and Lijiang revive a tradition of bi annual meetings with each other, what will come of this first in a century meeting? Cordiality, prosperity, suspicion? No one is entirely sure but it will have consequences for both nations however it goes.

CLYSPERIS COURTS SENTENCE FOUR FOREIGN TOURISTS TO DEATH ON DRUG OFFENCES - a court in the nation of Clysperis has sentenced four foreign tourists to death for "bringing drugs into the nation" this has prompted international questions and will now see an independent investigation carried out to ascertain the safety of the convictions.

THE TRIVIA CORNER

The trivia corner is where we have one of our regions roleplay characters answer five questions, to introduce you to the various characters of Mundus and we throw in a fun fact as well to give you a little bit of lore trivia.

This month answering the questions is Empress Serenity Azurewind of the Holy Empire of Achkaerin

What is/was your favourite subject in school?

Like a fair few of the leaders of Mundus I'm a history geek, I think it's important to learn from our past experiences so we can better inform our present and future judgement and decision making. There's a nation out there where my hair colour essentially means I've done something really bad in a past life, it was interesting discovering that because in my nation my red hair is actually viewed as a blessing rather some sort of curse mark.

What is your favourite book and why?

Anything by Tolkien but if I had to pick I'm going with the Lord of the Rings because there's something about being able to lose yourself in an epic quest in such an established world with the lore of the legendarium backing it up.

What has been the hardest thing you've done to date?

The challenge in the run up to this years Mundus Games, I got talked into or more specifically I let myself get talked into trying out all the different sports that make up the Games program. Some of them I'm reasonably good at, I've competed in a few of them, but stuff like Medieval Mixed Martial Arts where you have someone with a sword running at you and hitting you with it? Going to need a lot more practice on that one.

What's your pet hate?

People doing half the speed limit in the outside lane on the motorway.

What do you do to relax?

Play the piano, watch a film with my daughters, go for a run.

This Months fun fact:

At one time the official Royal Residence of the Achkaerinese Royal Family, the Marble Palace in Valtheim, was the residence of royals from four different nations at the same time, these royals hailing from Achkaerin, Aquitaine, Daito and Rokkenjima.

Thank you for reading this months update from The Independent Order

Office of the Chancellory / An Apology
« on: September 19, 2023, 11:04:34 PM »

Fellow Orderians,

If you think this post is about you, it probably is. There are many amongst us who I owe an apology to, and it kills me that there's those of you with us that my battles with demons precluded us from writing wonderful stories together, or even just simply getting to know each other and having fun together. My words shared with members of our community, even if spoken in times I had been drinking, had no place being spoken and while I can offer my apologies I'll never force anyone to interact with me if they don't wish to. I get it, I do, I said horrible things to people who didn't deserve it regardless of the circumstances and, perhaps, my only hope is that they may one day forgive me for that and we can write something beautiful together. I'll hope for that day to come, I'll look forward to welcoming it, but I won't ever force it.

It's been an amazing journey for me over the past month, I feel so much better than I have in ages and I see the colours in the world around me again and, maybe, I'm better at forgiving myself and recognizing that every bad thing that happens in life is not my fault. I tried the route of self medicating from a bottle, which led to a vicious cycle that saw me attacking people here and, looking back, I am ashamed at the things I said and did. It is our collective responsibility, as members of this community, to see that everyone feels welcome, that all feel safe, and that everyone here has a good time. I recognize where I failed so many times, and while the words exchanged can never be taken back, I hope that my actions as we move into the future together can, maybe, one day drown out the past.

I hope that the opportunities I've lost out on to write together with some truly talented and capable writers are, one day, restored because damn, you guys (and gals) put out some amazing stuff! I read all the RP that goes on here and I'm honestly happy and proud with some of the bangers y'all put out; you all write quality content and you should be proud of it! So even if you're not ready to engage with me directly know that I am one of your biggest fans and will hype you up with every opportunity presented to me to do so, and thank you for engaging with our community and crafting such wonderful works. The labour of your time, efforts and energies truly are appreciated.

That's all I wanted to say right now. There's many who deserve recognition that I haven't been able to do so due to my battles, but I want to highlight them and they know who they are. I know our first impressions weren't the best and I'm sorry you met my fatally flawed and self-destructive self, between us I hate her too. I hope, one day, you and I can truly meet and my shortcomings can be properly rectified.

And to one and all, stay awesome. Your stories are so wonderful to read and I'm thankful you contribute your creative energies to this region we all share. ❤️

Diplomacy and Events / An Imperial Housewarming: Talks in the Garden
« on: August 30, 2023, 01:39:26 PM »
As her guests got their fill of entertainment and leisure the Empress concluded her dances and invited her guests outside to one of the gardens of the Palace. A temporary pavilion had been erected to provide shade with an area set off to the side for private talks with her guests, should they be desired. In the mean time the Empress sat outside of the pavilion, taking in the warmth of the sun whilst enjoying the songs of birds which were accompanied by a gentle breeze. While there was an entire city around them one could barely notice it from behind the walls of the Imperial Palace, an oasis of nature, though she couldn't help to be somewhat sad that her timing precluded her guests from seeing the beautiful colours which the trees of the Palace would begin to adorn in the near future.

OOC:

Social activities may continue in the other thread if they're desired, however, I figured I wouldn't keep things held up. Those who wish to talk with the Empress and McKenna in a more private setting have the opportunity to do so. :)

Office of the Chancellory / Remembering The Great Crisis
« on: August 26, 2023, 01:24:06 AM »

Fellow Orderians,

Six years ago our region faced a crisis none of us could have predicted and, I believe, in those moments we saw the very best of our community be highlighted. As access to administrative features and the forums themselves became walled off to us action was taken, those regions we share ties with sprung into action on our behalf, and while today we have new forums we thankfully can look back to our former home which contains a collective trove of the contributions of members of the Independent Order. I remember discovering that something was amiss and those moments were both confusing and overwhelming. Things certainly could have gone worse yet we came together, we persevered together and now, six years later, the Independent Order is still here. Sure we may not be in our original region, we’ve migrated to new forums (which, looking at Tapatalk, we likely would have at some point anyway) but there has been one constant: our community and each and every person who makes it what it is; regions can be replaced, forums too, but it’s the community that makes the Order what it is regardless of the bits of code which made it possible for us to come together.

As Achkaerin, CGJ, DaveIronside, hobbes, the Orderian community and myself worked through those difficult moments, making decisions as the situation developed, we were assisted by Guy, Fratt, Lak and many more from regions beyond our own in the search for answers and solutions. It was utterly gut-wrenching when the prospect of so much of our history, the many contributions from those past and present, possibly being lost to us forever. I am thankful that proved not to be the case and, today, we have greater access to our former forums than ever before, a move I do thank Avakael for implementing.

There are few things I did so long ago that I still do to this day but, to be honest, I don’t think I could imagine where I would be without this community. Who would think that a text-based game with relatively limited features would bring people from around the world together in the way NationStates has? I know I didn’t think my participation on NationStates nor the Order itself would have as lasting of an impact as it has; I wouldn’t have had the chance to know the many good people I’ve had the chance to by being here if I didn’t, nor the opportunities to craft stories and share compelling tales, some which have been told on a scale nearing a decade now. The events which occurred six years ago proved that what makes this all work is the community we’ve all had a hand in building, and it reminds me that care and attention are required to safeguard what we have built together.

In some ways my words echo what I said six years ago:

Quote
I also wish to assure you that the Order does not stand alone as it faces this situation, nor does this action signify the 'end' of the Independent Order. So long as we remain united in spirit and cause the Independent Order cannot be extinguished. As I have said on our regional Discord this is a challenge which we are meeting head-on, and one which will result in an Order which is stronger, wiser, and more capable as it moves forward. We are all concerned for the countless contributions Orderians, past and present, have made, however, such concern must be met responsibly; let us not jump to conclusion and engage in speculation as we approach this great challenge.

We didn’t quite know what to expect that day, nor in the days which followed if I'm to be honest. To be sure there was uncertainty, but I don’t remember an atmosphere of defeat ever setting in upon us. We met the situation with determination and grace and now, six years later, in just over a month’s time we stand ready to celebrate our tenth anniversary together. I’ve seen regions fall apart before over much less than what we faced on that day and I’m proud of the many efforts which saw that the Crisis of 2017 was not the end of the Independent Order, but a moment which brought us all together and made us even more determined to protect our region and community, to see that it would have the strength to continue for many more years to come.

I’m a bit sentimental about the Order, I still remember my first major RP which found the Empress herself catch the eye of a certain Dartfordian Prince which launched not only a franchise in Mundus which even the Borlanders sought copies of, but a friendship which extends across transmissions lines, an ocean, and time-zones. It’s not just the stories which bring us together but the connections we make beyond them, none of which would have been possible without the Independent Order. We’ve all a responsibility to take care of the Order, to weigh the words we say and share, as well as the environment we create, as I feel so long as we take good care of the Order it will continue to take good care of us. Whether it’s to write for fun, to relieve stress from elsewhere, or to enjoy time with the community (even I am guilty of not considering the big picture at times) we've all got to pitch in and invest in the vibrancy and success of this community we share. Complacency, at times, is to be expected, we’re creatures of comfort and habit after all, but at the same time once in a while we need to refocus and take the time and care to protect that which we value.

Even approaching the ten year mark, one decade (it certainly makes me feel somewhat old!) I’m confident that our best years are still ahead of us. Just as everyone else here I’m committed to seeing that anything I can do for the Order, I’ve got a few ideas I’m pursuing currently but their success will depend on us all, we all would. To those who have been with us for years thank you, to those who are newer, thank you as well. I look forward to the next ten years alongside you all, and to making each tomorrow just a bit brighter; whether that’s for the Order itself, sharing a laugh on the Discord especially when it’s most needed, or simply enjoying well-written stories (which is what we’re all here for) I wouldn’t share it with any other group. Thank you all for the memories, and to those that will most certainly follow.

Six years ago we faced our greatest challenge, one which posed enough of a threat to bring the Order to a premature end, and in those moments we didn't panic; we stood together. We didn't balk at the challenge before us, we didn't lash out, and we never gave up to ensure that the Order survived those most threatening of days. We approached that challenge and contributed our capabilities and efforts to our recovery, and we stood through each moment in defiance of the circumstances.

I am confident we shall stand for many more years to come.

Thank you all for your time and all that you contribute. You’re all appreciated, and our region wouldn't be the same without you.

Vignettes / Soulmates
« on: August 23, 2023, 01:38:57 AM »
Location: Ivyfield Priory, Holy Empire of Achkaerin
Time: 4:00 AST

Though she had resided in Achkaerin for as long as recent memory could recall the Saisei Empress still woke at precisely 4 AM, Azukishiman Standard Time. Lucinda had found the transition to not having to wake so early to be an easier affair to tackle, she still laid there slumbering, only with her arms wrapped around Saisei and her legs half-way entangled with hers. 'I fell asleep in her arms again,' she thought, though she couldn't help but to smile at the thought. Here she was, in her own prison of sorts and Alex in his own as well. She had behaved herself, however, to this day she didn't believe she had betrayed her vows to Alex yet it had been years since she had spent so much time with Lucinda. In many ways it had reopened channels she thought were previously closed, and each day reminded her just how Lucinda seemed to hold all the right keys to her heart.

Each moment from their childhood she could recall as if it were yesterday, remembering each detail with near-photographic accuracy, and if she saw something remotely emotional she was seemingly flooded with emotion. "Most think that love is some chemical reaction in the brain," she whispered to a still-sleeping Lucinda, "but I still feel the same way about you, all these years later, as when you first claimed my heart. It's a warmth that starts here," she almost uselessly pointed to the center of her chest, "and it grows and radiates until it wholly encompasses every facet of my being. I still feel the butterflies in my stomach, the near-nauseous feeling, all of it. So no, chemicals have nothing to do with it. Your soul resonates with mine," she continued as she swept away a tear, "and I can only tell you in these not-quite midnight confessions. However, know that my heart is yours, I just simply can't help that, always has been and always wil..."

In a moment Lucinda jumped from her bed, reached for her pistol, and swept the room before recognizing that the situation was, indeed, safe. "My apologies," she said as she put the gun down again, "I'm sorry I wake like this, I didn't wake you too did I?" she continued. "Of course not," she said as she made a "shhhh" noise and guided Lucinda back to bed. "We've an expanse of territory between us and anything, or anyone, that could hurt us, and I pray for anyone who would try to take you down; they'd stand no chance. I'm used to waking up at this hour, it's almost as if it's programmed within my DNA, you've no need to be up if I'm not. Come on," she said as she lifted the sheet, "let's go back to dreaming of endless possibilities and all the beauty in the world together, yes?"

Despite the darkness of the room Beatrice could almost see a smile crack upon Lucinda's face before she answered, not quite so monotone, "that sounds nice. Maybe we'll run into each other," she continued as she covered herself. "I can only hope," Beatrice would whisper to a now-awake Lucinda, draping her arm around her. "As do I," Lucinda replied quietly.

A quick note but I think I’ll be transitioning this to an alternate timeline. It’s an aspect I certainly wish to explore, but Beaxander still have stories to be told too. 🙂

Office of the Chancellory / Monthly Address - Introductory
« on: August 23, 2023, 12:51:57 AM »

Fellow Orderians,

Communication has been an issue at times within our region. This is something that I'm not happy with, I look back upon the old forums and I see where communication was more present and consistent; we were on the same page. As I settle back into things I intend to give a briefing of the actions which I, and others, are taking in the service of the region. These will naturally be open to commentary from everyone and there will always be at least a week-long period (longer as necessary) for everyone to ask questions, comment, and list concerns we've missed. I am already engaging with Dave on things to be addressed and am currently working on sorting issues with Discord to ensure that newer members aren't faced with a confusing situation given the state of the mainline RP channel.

I have a plan for that though and wish to share it with you all. Please take a moment to read it, provide any insights you might have, or anything that I may have overlooked. There is an upcoming rollout of features, called Onboarding, which will complement the measures I have drafted. I recognize where I've taken a light-handed approach and allowed things to become confusing for newer people, however, I believe this is a first step in sorting the "vibe" of our Discord. We'll have a channel which is fully cannon, where all messages must reflect content on the forums. We'll also have a consultation channel, as we do at present, where things can get somewhat more hypothetical. Finally, the current #roleplay channel, as it's used mostly for banter already, will become the banter channel. I'd rather have such banter confined to one place than to allow it to slip into channels that should be kept canon-based. When Onboarding is rolled out we'll be able to ensure new members are first introduced to the "canon" RP channels, after which they'll have the decision to engage with other channels at their discretion. It's my hope that this will lessen confusion, frustration and increase retention.

The proposal can be viewed in full below. I look forward to hearing your comments, concerns and any ideas that may have escaped my attention. Once this issue is addressed it is my intent that we will move onto a pruning of Discord channels as it has been noted that they've grown somewhat out of control. We'll take a look at things and determine, through consensus, what we should keep and what might be better served merging with other existing channels.

Quote
As there have been issues where new members viewing Discord get confused as discussions here don't often reflect the actual state of the RP. At a time where we should all be encouraging new members to find their footing and hit the ground running an environment exists which makes it hard for people to get involved. Some, unfortunately, give up.

To address these issues there will be a few changes to our RP discussions on Discord. These changes are intended to facilitate helpful RP discussion while allowing for people to have fun with what-ifs and hypotheticals. The changes are as follows:

#roleplay: Discussions here should reflect information precisely as it is on the forum. It should support the content there while being reflective of it. We shouldn't have discussions about "superpowers" or content which does not reflect events which have yet to (or ever) happened on the forums. In short, if there is not a topic associated with it on the forum it doesn't exist and should not be discussed here. It will be clearly marked as "canon" so please keep that in mind when posting in #roleplay.

#roleplay-consultation: For consulting on roleplay matters. Hypotheticals are allowed here, questions related to potential RPs can be exchanged, etc. Think of it as somewhat of a help desk of sorts.

#roleplay-banter: This replaces the Twilight Zone. Content here does not have to be fully reflective of the forums, what-if scenarios and alternative timelines may be discussed, basically 90% of what happens in #roleplay will be contained here. It will be clearly marked as "non-canon".

Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation. Let's ensure that everyone can not only enjoy our Discord, but also that we're all on the same page when it comes to the facts and realities reflected on the forums.

Thank you all, stay awesome. ❤️

Office of the Chancellory / Resumption Of Bi-Weekly Updates
« on: August 22, 2023, 03:35:21 PM »

Fellow Orderians,

With more access being opened on our historic forums (accessible by clicking the "Old Forum" link in the navigational bar) I have modernized the format we used to use to compile updates. These updates were sent to regions we work with on a bi-weekly basis. You've likely noticed updates from the Rejected Realms and 10000 Islands and, when we had ambassadors, we'd return the favour and let them know what we're up to in our corner of NationStates. With the format modernized (I replaced former ZetaBoards bbcode with SMF code) we're one step closer to resuming these updates.

This is something we can all work together on composition, after which I will head over to the Rejected Realms and 10000 Islands and post them on their forums. I would also like to look for a few volunteers who would serve as ambassadors, posting these updates. I'll be here to do it in the mean time and, if someone should forget to post (and hey, life does get busy I know!) I'll be happy to have your back there and post it.

What is your role in all this?

Your role, should you wish, will be to write summaries of ongoing RPs. I would suggest doing it either as your RP is concluding or just before the deadline. Please provide details of what is happening in a few sentences; if it's left vague it's not really going to benefit those reading it. Please post such updates using the templates below:

OPEN RP - Stuff you want others to join in on.

Code: [Select]
[color=#090][URL=www.roleplaylink.com]WHITTY TITLE OF OPEN ROLE PLAY GOES HERE IN ALL CAPS[/URL][/color]

Summary of what's happened in the RP either since it started or last update. Remember this is for people who don't know our region so its usually best to use charector titles not names so e.g. King David Ironside = King of East Moreland. This should be no more than a few lines as remember we don't want this to become a text wall.

CLOSED RP - Between people who are invite only.

Code: [Select]
[URL=www.roleplaylink.com]WHITTY TITLE OF CLOSED RP GOES HERE IN ALL CAPS[/URL]

Summary of what's happened in the RP either since it started or last update. Remember this is for people who don't know our region so its usually best to use charector titles not names so e.g. King David Ironside = King of East Moreland. This should be no more than a few lines as remember we don't want this to become a text wall.

What happens next?

If we see interest and participation I'll prepare a date, stitch a post together using Dave's format, complete the media round-up section and tidy up on anything else that may not have been done. Then it'll be posted and dispatched to other regions, either by myself or ambassadors. I won't give this a firm date yet, but let's aim for Monday, August 28th and set up a bi-weekly schedule from there. Of course, as soon as the current edition is out we can begin working on the next edition!

Introductions / Greetings to one and all! An Open Introduction
« on: August 22, 2023, 01:11:09 PM »
It's been a while since we've seen a post here so I figured I would get the ball rolling again. I know we've had new people join since March and, as we've yet to be introduced I'd like to extend my hand to y'all!

I'm Beatrice, I've been with the Order since September of 2013 (I do believe the 30th of next month marks 10 years!) and in that time I've had the pleasure of getting to know many people from around the world, as well as reading many good stories. It's honestly impressive, some people only look to books (which there's nothing wrong with that) but I believe I've seen some great talents move through here, and I know that we've many great writers amongst us as I write this. Anyway, I live in the US, adore cats and other animals, and like doing many things outdoors.

Enough about me though, if I haven't had the chance to welcome you let's correct that and get to know each other better. As always, I look forward to seeing what you'll contribute and if there's ever anything you may need help with (or if you've got a question about RP or regional history) always feel free to ask. I've seen it all, so I can definitely help out!

Proposing the Association of Dauntel and Shaw Nations
An Invitation To Our Regional Neighbours

The Dauntel Sea and the Strait of Shaw represent a rich area of trade and commerce, comprising the economies of Abertone, Daito, Tytor, Rokkenjima, Gowu, Toshikawa, Nueva Ardia, Phuebra, Rhand, Skalvia, Marsielles, Aquitaine and Aosta. Rokkenjima has long seen and believed in the promise of our region, as well as our faith that nations that further their mutual economic and security prospects ensure a region that is not only free from conflict and strife, but one which enriches the Peoples they represent. Whilst I originally intended to present my ideas to a future Summit of the Cross-Straits Community, I felt that a new direction might serve our nations best; one which sees something new created in the place of past organisations, yet bringing forward the best aspects of previous organisations to best serve our interests moving forward. While we will not incorporate past structures in our path forward, we shall carry forward the lessons learned in those past endeavours and, together, build something which serves the interests of our nations here, now and in the present. In those interests I invite representatives from the above listed nations to join me at my home in Dunwich to discuss a mutual path forward toward the Association of Dauntel and Shaw Nations, ADSN.

I have prepared a framework from which I hope we can work from, and am happy to share it with you here:

Quote
The ADSN Declaration (Dunwich Declaration) Dunwich, [DATE OF SIGNATURE]
[/b]

The First Empire of Rokkenjima, [ADDITIONAL NATIONS];

MINDFUL of the existence of mutual interests and common problems among countries of the Dauntel and the Straight of Shaw and convinced of the need to strengthen further the existing bonds of regional solidarity and cooperation;

DESIRING to establish a firm foundation for common action to promote regional cooperation in the Dauntel and Straight of Shaw in the spirit of equality and partnership and thereby contribute towards peace, progress and prosperity in the region;

CONSCIOUS that in an increasingly interdependent world, the cherished ideals of peace, freedom, social justice and economic well-being are best attained by fostering good understanding, good neighbourliness and meaningful cooperation among the countries of the region already bound together by ties of history and culture;

CONSIDERING that the countries bordering the Dauntel and Strait of Shaw share a primary responsibility for strengthening the economic and social stability of the region and ensuring their peaceful and progressive national development, and that they are determined to ensure their stability and security from external interference in any form or manifestation in order to preserve their national identities in accordance with the ideals and aspirations of their peoples;

AFFIRMING that all foreign bases are temporary and remain only with the expressed concurrence of the countries concerned and are not intended to be used directly or indirectly to subvert the national independence and freedom of States in the area or prejudice the orderly processes of their national development;

DO HEREBY DECLARE:

FIRST, the establishment of an Association for Regional Cooperation among the countries bordering the waters of the Dauntel and the Strait of Shaw to be known as the Association of Dauntel and Shaw Nations (ADSN).

SECOND, that the aims and purposes of the Association shall be:

1. To accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavours in the spirit of equality and partnership in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of Dauntel and Shaw Nations;
2. To promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries of the region and adherence to the principles of international norms;
3. To promote active collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative fields;
4. To provide assistance to each other in the form of training and research facilities in the educational, professional, technical and administrative spheres;
5. To collaborate more effectively for the greater utilization of their agriculture and industries, the expansion of their trade, including the study of the problems of international commodity trade, the improvement of their transportation and communications facilities and the raising of the living standards of their peoples;
6. To promote shared Dauntel-Shaw studies;
7. To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing international and regional organizations with similar aims and purposes, and explore all avenues for even closer cooperation among themselves.

THIRD, that to carry out these aims and purposes, the following machinery shall be established:

(a) Annual Meeting of Foreign Ministers, which shall be by rotation and referred to as ADSN Ministerial Meeting. Special Meetings of Foreign Ministers may be convened as required.
(b) A Standing committee, under the chairmanship of the Foreign Minister of the host country or his representative and having as its members the accredited Ambassadors of the other member countries, to carry on the work of the Association in between Meetings of Foreign Ministers.
(c) Ad-Hoc Committees and Permanent Committees of specialists and officials on specific subjects.
(d) A National Secretariat in each member country to carry out the work of the Association on behalf of that country and to service the Annual or Special Meetings of Foreign Ministers, the Standing Committee and such other committees as may hereafter be established.

FOURTH, that the Association is open for participation to all States which border the Dauntel Sea or Strait of Shaw who subscribe to the aforementioned aims, principles and purposes.

FIFTH, that the Association represents the collective will of the nations which border the Dauntel Sea and Strait of Shaw, to bind themselves together in friendship and cooperation and, through joint efforts and sacrifices, secure for their peoples and for posterity the blessings of peace, freedom and prosperity.

DONE in Dunwich on this
  • day of [MONTH], [YEAR].
In this vision we seek the establishment of a common free trade zone and, during the discourse of our talks, further defensive coordination to preserve the peace and tranquility of our region from forces that would threaten our economic stability and security. In addition to the framework provided, Rokkenjima will work with our prospective partners to see more in the manner of cultural exchange, cross-border educational opportunities for our Peoples and decreased VISA requirements between members of the Association; remember this is a most basic framework, and where we take it from here is fully within our hands to determine. I look forward to meeting with you all, and to making decisions which will see the Dauntel and Strait of Shaw prosper for generations to come.

Yours in friendship;

Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima

[BEGINNING OF MESSAGE]

@Starlight to @Serenity

As I'm sure you've seen the news out of Pyrettania isn't good, hundreds dead and the fear of the "nuclear" part of a dirty bomb has the people frightened. Ships have been dispatched to the Matildas, however our surface fleet will likely stop short of them as I've authorized two Pods to take positions placing 308 Tomahawks at my disposal in the region as per the advice of Grand Marshal Rowe. I have declined advice to vacate Pyrettania and take to the seas aboard the Imperial Yacht,  I will not be driven from the Capitol, I think it's important that my People see me here, among them, not hiding in times like this. I wasn't expecting to make these decisions so early in my reign so I'll be counting on some solid advice as well as any intelligence you may be privy to to make the right calls in the coming hours and days.

Please advise and keep me posted.

An Invitation To Our Global Neighbours

Nearly nineteen years ago my mother, the Saisei Empress, came before the community of nations to announce the success of the Anselmo Restoration and the banishment of the Federal Republic. In her times Rokkenjima had been "a nation in decay, a naval power in severe decline which could barely defend herself, a state of affairs which allowed pirates to lay waste to domestic and foreign shipping." She declared an end to that era and the dawn of an era anew, bringing into fruition the First Empire of Rokkenjima. At that time the Second Great Patriotic War was the greatest challenge Rokkenjima had faced and today, I find myself in a similar yet much different position she once held.

Following a series of circumstances which could have plunged Eastern Ardia into a most devastating war, one with the potential to have consequences far beyond our borders, it falls upon me to declare the end of an era and the birth of one anew; indeed, the reigns of my aunts represent an interregnum between the Saisei and Sutāraito Eras and the two share many things in common. When my mother approached the world the First Empire held few connections abroad, it was a fledgling nation upon the international stage and many things were in a state of disrepair. Today, while the First Empire may claim strength in her Navy and economy, an accumulation of diplomatic miscalculations and a reliance upon past glories resulted in an arrogance which has left Rokkenjima diplomatically deficient. While our sword may be strong, while we may be capable of raining down upon adversaries with firepower, a lone sword can always be broken against a multitude of blades; without something to defend, all while lacking those which that blade would seek to defend, such a sword may as well lay upon the ground broken and discarded. Whereas we once spoke to the world around us and forged cooperation and collaboration my predecessors have relied upon economic coercion, military might and hammers in the place of pens. The goodwill which was built up over several years of engaging with Mundus was squandered with the mentality that our way was the only right way, that we lived in a world which demanded we seek the next adversary, and that we could do absolutely no wrong, regardless of the issue before us.

My mother sought to restore the Imperial Rokkenjiman Navy, a worthy endeavour in its time and one which proved correct, yet I feel as though that path she embarked us upon, one which prioritized military might, has left us in the state we exist in today. Any nation fully reliant upon itself is doomed to a self-imposed isolation, for if we do not venture beyond our borders for new ideas, shared knowledge and a joint pursuit to forge a better Mundus for one and all, if we're left believing that our way is the only one which is true and just, any such nation cannot evolve and will find itself looking at a world that transcends beyond anything it could ever envision. Such a cycle, as we've seen in recent history, is not one which I will seek to emulate or perpetuate.

With this being stated I invite diplomats and ambassadors from across Mundus to establish, and re-establish, ties between the First Empire and our neighbours near and afar. I look forward to casting off the isolation which the arrogance of my predecessors allowed to manifest, to show that Rokkenjima is not a nation which is incapable of learning from past shortcomings, and to once again be a voice amongst a choir which seeks a better, more equitable and inclusive Mundus for all Peoples and Nations. I have planned a formal state dinner to be held within one weeks time and I invite all foreign diplomats and dignitaries to join me at my home, the Imperial Palace, and assure you that it will be well worth your energies and efforts. I am sure many of you are far more experienced than I am and I fully recognize that, I look forward to meeting you not only as a humble host but with the recognition of where to show deference and to know when to listen, instead of speaking. It is not lost upon me that I represent in myself a new generation of Rokkenjimans, those who wish to see Rokkenjima extend again the hand of friendship to the world, and to end this self-imposed isolation and work with those across the globe who wish for a better Mundus as we once truly did.

I look forward to welcoming both our friends and allies, and those who are presently on difficult terms with the First Empire, to this gathering to further our diplomatic engagement with the community of nations. Travel arrangements should be made through Pyrettania International Airport, after which ground transport will be provided to the Imperial Palace. Even those with whom we've had the most serious of disagreements with, perhaps especially so, I hope to welcome you to my home so that I may learn from you, hear your concerns, and work with you to establish a path forward which benefits our Nations and Peoples mutually.

I do not pretend I know what to expect of this message, in a way it is most certainly a message in a bottle, but I do hope I'm pleasantly surprised. With that I invite all of you to welcome this new Era with me, and to make each and every tomorrow which follows better than that which proceeded it.

Yours sincerely;

Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima

OOC: I've been in a rut with Rokkenjima lately, so this will serve as a "soft reset" so to say for Rokkenjiman interactions with the broader community of nations. I do hope we can craft some amazing stories through this, and look forward to carrying on with this recaptured spark. :)
