Biography | Born in Kotachi, Ishinomaki Prefecture, in 1964, Kunihiro Marutaka spent much of his childhood growing up in and around the city of Genzan, a part of what was then Mandatory Paechon, as a result of his father's service in the Air Force during the opening years of the War in Kalasin. Though Paechon was, at the time, a part of Fusan thanks to the treaties which ended the First Great War (1914 - 1918), the radically different culture which permeated the territory's very social fabric granted the young boy a somewhat unique perspective compared to his peers on the continent; after all, Paechon was (and still is) home to a mix of many different peoples, owing to the region being at the crossroads of two hemispheres. Yet as he grew older, this different climate forged in him a drive to surpass his his peers and, perhaps, played a key role in his going through business school. It was, admittedly, something which his parents disagreed with, as his father had hoped he might join the military like he and his father had, but it would be in this climate that he would thrive. He began working for Zayasu in 1988 at the age of 24, having freshly graduated from Keiō University, and over the years, he would rise in the ranks until eventually being elected by the company's board of directors and shareholders to serve as President and CEO of Zayasu Heavy Industries in 2013. |
