Losa smiled once the last representative had signed the charter, it would soon make its way down to the press area that had been set up. Turning her attention back to her copy of the agenda she looked around the table.

"We now come to item five on the agenda military reports from the CSTO members present." she said

Statement on the Awhaele Transition

As previously stated by the Achkaerinese Government work was being undertaken to, following the free democratic choice of the people living on the island of Awhaele, transition the island from its previous governing settlement under the joint concordat to part of Achkaerinese sovereign territory. The transition is now finalised with the following being enacted:

1) Effective as of Midnight Valtheim Meridian Time on the 22nd of January 2021 the island of Awhaele will formally finish the period of transition to an Achkaerinese province, it shall keep its name and for jurisdictional purposes all laws and treaties pertaining to Achkaerinese territory shall be applicable to the island.

2) Her Majesty Queen Siora Qivalur of the Faejeon people shall be bestowed with the noble title of Marquesa of Cyalona and Awhaele, thus granting her status equal to that of other Achkaerinese nobles such as Lady Kristina Ayanami and Lord Antonio Gliss. She will be granted a seat in the Noble Moot.

3) The island of Awhaele shall for National electoral purposes be divided into thirty constituencies each electing a Senator to the Achkaerinese Senate this will increase the total number of Achkaerinese Senators (including the Speaker) to 530. Under the provisions of the Elections and Referendum Act elections to fill these new thirty seats will be held on the 4th of March 2021 and shall be subsequently contested in the 2025 General Election. The Provincial governing of Awhaele shall operate as a devolved Government operating on the same terms as Gowu.

4) Provincial elections for the Awhaele Assembly shall occur as per their existing custom with the next such elections in 2022.

"Achkaerin has no objections to either proposal as it stands." Isabella Watson said "However Achkaerin would as we're talking about a fail safe scenario here, as a further back up or asset should it become necessary offer to station at both our main headquarters and the future SAC in Tytor a Night Owl aircraft which can provide a mobile base if we do need to evacuate or relocate this body. We'd also station an appropriate escort if it is agreeable."

OOC - I'm going to suggest that this be considered 'final' document in so far as we're going to move to sign it, however it would be fair to say that if Lahkzovia, Dartfordia, Novinicia  or Kodumaa wish to add their names and/or articles to this they can so that we've all had the opportunity.

Losa looked around the table again and nodded "I'm not going to suggest further amendments of the text in terms of content." she said "What I would like to suggest is that we reorder the articles a little to group similar articles together."

Quote from: Dunwich Charter, as presently constituted
The Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima; Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher, representing His Majesty's Government in the Kingdom of Tytor; Emperor Peter Azurewind representing the Holy Empire of Achkaerin; the Emperor of the Second Empire of Ikhan and her territories; Doyen Christian Alea of the Monarchy of Novincia;[ETC, ETC] being met together on [DATE], deem it right to make known certain common principles in the national policies of the respective Governments of the Cross-Straits Community on which they base their hopes for a better future for Mundus.

First, they declare their commitment to the basic freedoms of humankind, which every human being on Mundus ought to enjoy by right, namely Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.  They define Freedom of Speech as the right to the free expression of opinion, of conscience, and of choice, whether in word, in deed, or in writing.  They define Freedom of Religion as the right to the free exercise of any, all, or no faiths, as dictated by conscience alone.  They define Freedom from Want as the right to such necessities of life as food, water, shelter, and clothing.  They define Freedom from Fear as the right to safety both at home and abroad, for one's self and one's family.  Every state should guarantee each of these freedoms, and no excuse can be invented to truly justify the violation of any of them, anywhere in the world, no matter how tempting it may be.

Second, their countries seek a day when no man, woman or child is held in servitude. Whether this servitude be found in the chains of slavery, the scourge of forced sexual labour, or the practice of indentured servitude, the quest for equality, and ensuring the rights of all Mundusians, must continue to be fought just as strongly as it was in the grand Progressive Era which gave us several cornerstone international accords advancing the rights and freedoms of all Peoples.

Third, they desire to ensure the internal and territorial integrity of all nations and the prevention of a new era of imperialism. Countering the interventionist policies of certain nations while supporting legitimate governments in moments of vulnerability ensures that no state may take advantage of another to forward their own goals and objectives at the expense of another sovereign state.

Fourth, they reaffirm their loyalty to the ideals of democracy and self-determination, holding the will of the people to be sacrosanct.  History has shown the path of the tyrant and of the autocrat to be an easy one, but it is the path of the democrat and of the people's representative which is the more fulfilling.  Recognizing the ease with which democracy can be subverted, they pledge greater effort on behalf of both its maintenance and its spread.

Fifth, they will endeavour to protect international accords and norms, so as to prevent them from being subverted by certain states in the advancement of their interests. The utilization of international accords as weapons by states in the pursuit of their foreign and military policies dilutes the effectiveness of said accords, as well as the faith of the community of nations in those accords.

Sixth, they affirm that the use of military force must only be pursued when there exists no other option, in a proportionate not disproportionate manner and in keeping with international laws and conventions. The lands of Mundus bear many scars inflicted by the convenient use of military force by those who have sought to impose their oppressive mindsets on others, who believe that "might makes right," who believe because they have power that they can do whatever they please. Not so: just because something can be done does not mean it should be done. There is no justification in the killing of others simply because they do not share your point of view, your faith, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, or similar, and the legacy of several genocides across Mundus makes it clear that "Never again" must mean "Never again."

Seventh, they declare that the days of nuclear weapons are over and must remain so. It is owed to all the peoples of Mundus to ensure that the universal disarmament of nuclear weapons as carried out by the Holy Empire of Achkaerin, the Kingdom of East Moreland and the First Empire of Rokkenjima and verified by members of the international community stands the test of time. No nation should be allowed to visit weapons of this ilk upon Mundus; the parties shall undertake greater vigilance and do everything in their power to ensure these weapons, once consigned to history, do not return.

Eighth, they commit to prohibit the manufacture of chemical agents designed to do permanent harm to a person, and to prohibit the manufacture of biological weapons. In keeping with this provision, the signatories of this charter shall make it their duty to be ever-vigilant and do everything in their power to prevent the unleashing of such weapons for the rest of human history.

Ninth, they make known their belief that one cannot simply walk by on the other side of the road when disaster strikes, whether it be earthquake, volcanic eruption, tsunami, pandemic, or other such occurrence. There is no price that can be put on a life, and irrespective of political disagreement - sanctions of any sort, legal proceedings, etc - the Community shall not turn its back in the face of such disaster. If help can be offered, then it must be offered.

Tenth, they commit to the ideal that the planet of Mundus must be left in a better condition than it was found. Research into cleaner, renewable sources of energy is needed; developments must account for environmental damage; and more care for the environment in general is essential. We have only one planet, and it should be cared for.

As the world moves further into the 21st century, with united purpose and a trust in the basic goodness of the human race, the undersigned representatives of the member states of the Cross-Straits Community pledge themselves and their nations to the continued maintenance of the values laid out in this Charter.  Signed at Dunwich this day, the [DAY] of [MONTH], [YEAR]:

Losa looked around again and then standing up placed a pen bearing the Cross-Straits seal on top of the draft charter and then looked at Peter who was first in her eyeling "Your Majesty?" she asked

Peter nodded and took the pen and the charter

"There are many moments in history where pivotal decisions have been made, orders given, moments where hours later an Empire has been delivered a fatal blow, another military intervention has taken place and we seem to confine ourselves to the same old dance, the same playbook." he said "Very rarely have we dared to dream of the future, very rarely do we open our mouths and say what we truly think. This document is an idea born from the collective will of everyone in this room, it speaks not to any reality but to our ideals, it speaks to that which we desire not that which we have, such ideas can change the course of history, such ideas are dreams of a future and they're more precious than the near constant repetition of history we've found ourselves in of late. Let this be the Community's Legacy to dare to dream and to strive to bring those dreams into fruition." he signed the charter on the line marked for his name and put the pen and charter back in the centre of the table.

CROWN PRINCESS TO HOLD THE FORT

By: Niamh Roberts Royal Family Correspondent

The Marble Palace has confirmed that for the next few weeks Crown Princess Serenity is to 'hold the fort'. The announcement comes as the Emperor travels to East Moreland for surgery related to the injury he suffered in a terrorist attack some years ago now. In making the announcement Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright said: "Given the need for the Emperor to both have the surgery and then have time to recover afterwards the majority of the Emperor's duties and responsibilities will be undertaken by the Crown Princess. This isn't the first time we've seen this arrangement happen and is fairly routine under the circumstances." The Emperor's last act before departure was to sign into law the amended Trading Regulations (Freestone Mark) Act (2018). The Marble Palace has also refused to comment on rumours that the Emperor is considering meeting the King of East Moreland during the time that he is in East Moreland. The Crown Princess spent the morning meeting with students at the Freshwater College of Performing Arts and the afternoon in a series of meetings believed to concern upcoming things to be aware of including the finalizing of the Awhaele transition and the hosting of ceremonial functions. It is believed that once the Emperor returns from recovery that the Crown Princess will undergo the same surgery as her father but related to her leg.

Women's 800m Individual Medley, Mundus Games 2020 (Becky Brittaine)

The Saroyan Dynasty Arena, might well have been in the running for the largest swimming arena the Mundus Games swimmers had ever competed in but that didn't really change the mood in the call room as the eight swimmers - one from Aschlon, one Cenneg, one Ecclesiastical, a Centralian, a Heyran, an Aostan, a Morelander and Achkaerin's Becky Brittaine waited to be called into the arena for the final of the women's 800m individual medley event. As per tradition of the Games they'd be called in in reverse order of qualifying time for the final with the slowest first and the fastest last, Becky was used to being called in next to last, usually qualifying second fastest and usually because of the same reason - Daisy Greechan she was so used to seeing East Moreland's great swimmer lining up next to her in truth Becky had lost track of how many times they'd squared of and yes Daisy had won more than she'd lost against Becky but this race was Becky's specialism, this was the one she tended to edge Daisy in though not by much. Still it was a weird situation, and had been all the way through the Games she was so used to seeing Daisy in the call room before a race, warming up beforehand, cooling down afterwards, sharing the medal podium and above all seeing her Morelander cap slicing through the water like a torpedo. It was odd not seeing that, she took out her headphones as the call started, the athletes called out in order, she was the last the fastest qualifier, when her name was called she stepped out into the pool arena and walked to the starting blocks the roar of the crowd deafening, she had lane four, she placed her top and towel into the box marked for her lane and put on her goggles as she looked around, she knew all of the seven swimmers around her were strong opposition, the lack of one big name didn't make this an easier race she would still have a hard challenge ahead of her if she wanted to win.

"Take your marks." the starter said, Becky and the others got into position a quick glance left and right told Becky that everyone was up on the blocks so no one was opting to start with the backstroke and any medley swimmer who didn't finish with freestyle was either foolish or a genius so the questions were first were any of the others going to mix it up and go out with the fastest stroke? And second if not freestyle would it be the usual butterfly or would it be breaststroke? There wasn't really a hard and fast set in stone order, there was a conventional order - butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and then freestyle but there was nothing that said swimmers had to follow that order.

The sound of the starting buzzer came and the eight swimmers dived forwards, the rule off the start was simple enough, hit the water like an arrow, kick hard, stay underwater for as long as you were allowed and then come up and go. When she came up Becky found herself along with all the others doing butterfly she wasn't leading, but there was a long way to go, turn one...turn two...turn three...the field still somewhat together, the central lanes vying for the lead as they came up on the two hundred metre mark and the first change of strokes, and actually the change that Becky hated the most - backstroke was her weakest stroke. She hit the turn and kicked round getting onto her back and beginning the process of stroke counting so she knew when the wall was coming, she knew she'd lose a little ground in the next two hundred metres but she wasn't likely to lose touch with the leaders, she just had to imagine a musical instrument playing in a certain time notation to guide her through this stage of the race, she wasn't looking left or right she didn't want to know the race situation lest it put her off her game. When they hit the four hundred metre mark though that did change as she kicked around to begin the breaststroke leg she was able to get a sense of where the race was at, she was on the coat tails of the Aostan, Heyran and Centralian and about level with the Morelander, the others were a little behind, now for the third stroke, the third leg of the race. Becky knew her breaststroke was good but now as they raced down another length of the pool she had to start making decisions about when to make her move or moves to try and win this gold, when they hit five hundred metres she kicked hard off the turn and made her first move she needed to stretch this out, lower the number of people she had to think about, it was a gamble to wind up the race three hundred metres from home but this was what she put the hard training hours in for, at five hundred and fifty metres on the turn she saw that she was edging the Morelander and the Centralian out so it was looking like it was down to her, the Aostan and the Heyran.

At six hundred metres came the final change this time to freestyle, it was the equivalent of getting the bell in athletics this was practically the last lap and this was Becky's strongest stroke, it would have been easy to throw a blanket over the top three as they swam down the length of the pool such was the closeness of the race, she could see the caps either side of her and as they headed toward seven hundred metres she gritted her teeth this was now a three way game of chicken, who was going to kick first? Who had the best kick? Who had the most left in the tank? All of the variables were running around inside Becky's head and then she made up her mind and went for it, as they hit seven hundred metres she kicked hard on the turn and accelerated, what had the other two got left? She didn't know, she didn't look she only wanted to go as fast as she could and hoped to get to the line before she ran out of energy, as she hit the final turn she took a deep breath and in the turn saw the slight advantage she had, now she was betting on her lungs, the distance stroke by stroke decreased the wall came up, looming larger and larger with each passing second, and then she felt the palm of her hand hit it, eight hundred metres, she turned and looked up at the screen and smiled broadly when she saw she'd won. When everyone else had finished she climbed out of the pool, shook hands with her competitors and grabbed her towel and top before heading off to cool down.

Anja wasn't really in the mood to haggle or argue the point, the truth was she needed a ride off Nar Shadaa before the Inquisition started increasing their presence on the surface. She wasn't about to leave those orphans behind either, if she did she suspected they'd fall prey to the swoop gangs before too long and though Telos wasn't exactly the safest place in the galaxy it was one of only a handful of places Anja could try and unravel the mystery of the Holocron without putting herself firmly into the cross hairs of the Empire, no she had a promise to keep a promise to one of the greatest Jedi she'd ever known a man by the name of Obi-Wan Kenobi, a man who in part she owed her life to it had been a message sent out by Kenobi that had stopped her and Ruves returning to Coruscant what had he said? "This is Master Obi Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic, have fallen with a dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi. Trust in The Force. Do not return to the Templethat time has past. And our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged. Our trust. Our faith. Our friendships. But we must persevere. And in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always." Anja had taken those words to mean one thing - survive, hide, stay true to the path of the light and pass on what you had learned so that you were not the last of the Jedi.

Anja smiled and shook the Sullustan's hand "Three thousand it is." she said, she was about to figure out a time for their departure when the scream rang out. It was close and in the direction of the spaceport which put it either in or close to their path. Anja glanced around and smiled as she spotted Tann'freetaa, one of the orphans nearby, she was a blue skinned Twi'Lek with black rings on her tails Anja waved her over "Get the others and get packed, my stuff as well if you've got time, Salanbacca should be able to handle that, meet us at the spaceport as soon as you can we're getting out of here."

As Tann, as she liked to go by, headed off to round up the other orphans and do as Anja had asked the four of them made their way towards the spaceport and as they approached they saw what the fuss was about - the Empire was rounding up people for questioning by the look of it, including the man who had originally possessed the holocron and a Dathomiri Zabrak. But it wasn't that which stopped Anja in her tracks it was the presence of three people in black robes - Inquisitors and judging by the look of them force sensitives, a male human who was masked, a male Cathar and a female Miraluka, easily discernable from the red scarf worn atop her head and over her eyes. Mentally Anja was kicking herself she should have anticipated or sensed the presence of a Miraluka, the specie's ability to see through the Force made them the ideal trackers and hunters for the Inquisition whether it be fugitive Jedi or artifacts they were after. The added complication, as if three likely highly skilled, lightsaber wielding inquisitors and numerous stormtroopers weren't enough was that there was an Imperial shuttle sat there that the people were being marched towards, no doubt for further 'questioning' on the Star Destroyer in orbit, and if that happened Anja knew she could kiss any chance of getting information from the original owner goodbye. She calmed herself and tried to conceal her Force presence but she knew it was an ultimately futile effort, it wasn't a case of if that Miraluka pinpointed her presence but when.

OOC - anyone who hasn't added yet can still do so, I'm just moving it on slightly so we don't get bogged down time wise and I think we've done enough stuff like this in RP to be able to add and amend at the same time.

Losa Cidh had spent most of the last few minutes sat observing the distinguished figures around her took their turns to add to the Dunwich Charter, this was one of the things that they did very well and none of the people around the table were going to shirk away from backing these words and principles up. After a few moments of silence after the latest article was added she smiled "We have a solid foundation of principles before us." she said "I now invite us to begin the review of the articles before us, if any wish to amend articles now is the time to present such proposals and the floor remains open to any who wish to add further articles."

The Outlander's Name

The Hall of the Samurai sat on a hilltop about a ten minute walk from the outskirts of Gowu, it was where following the exodus of Samurai onto Achkaerinese soil during and after the last Toshikawan Civil War that the heritage of the Samurai, their culture, their artifacts and their records were stored to preserve the history of a culture that the rising tide of most in Toshikawa wanted to forget, the War had been Su Mai's second and hopefully final power grab attempt and while she had been stopped it had been at the cost of the then existing Samurai hold over Toshikawa, the clans had been devastated, their numbers decimated and relatively few Samurai had survived and not all of them were embracing the inevitable change though some were. It was to the Hall that Melanie Bell and Rosalie McLean walked, not that they had a choice in the matter the hall was deliberately positioned away from a road to give the sense of being back in time.
"It's impressive." Rosalie said looking at the building
"It certainly is." Melanie said
"What are we looking for?" Rosalie asked
"Hopefully a name." Melanie said

The pair stepped inside the hall and made their way through the various artifacts to the central chamber of the Hall, the walls to each side held various katana from various noted Samurai, there were suits of armour from each of the clans and then at the far end of the hall were the records, one plinth for each clan, the banner of that clan hanging behind the plinth and atop the plinth a simple book - the records of who the Samurai had been. Melanie and Rosalie made their way to the plinths.
"And I thought the outside was impressive." Rosalie said
"Yeah." Melanie said, she carefully opened the Miroma clan's book - there was a digitizing effort underway but they hadn't got as far as the actual records yet. "So Fushiri war years and just before."
"Yeah." Rosalie said "Time for me to do my thing?"
"Sure is." Melanie said she stood aside and let Rosalie step up and examine the book, she had better language understanding anyway, Rosalie spent a few minutes looking through the book and then smiled.
"Got him." Rosalie said
"Go on." Melanie said peering over Rosalie's shoulder and training her eyes on the name, written in Toshhikawan script, that Rosalie had her finger next to.
"This word here." Rosalie said "Translates as Outlander."
"Meaning that he's not a native Samurai." Melanie said "And the name?"
"Janile Riafsette." Rosalie said
"Certainly sounds Paracambian." Melanie said "A Paracambian Samurai, who'd have thought it?"
"You clearly or we wouldn't be here." Rosalie said
"They might have more information about him around here somewhere." Melanie said
"Worth a go." Rosalie said

The Marble Palace sat relatively close to the centre of Valtheim, though not in the exact centre it occupied part of what was referred to as the 'Valtheim Plateau' this being despite the fact that there was no high terrain it was simply a reference to an area of the city where the Palace, Senate, Hall of Nobles, Government buildings, Supreme Court, some embassies, the Royal Theatre, the large Memorial Garden, the Temple of the Brave and the Temple of Namis were located. Cheryl got out of the car and waited for the Altromine Chancellor and Vice Chancellor to step out then they made their way across half of the almost circular nexus of the various paths waiting there at the gate was the Emperor himself Peter Azurewind, dressed in a suit (minus the tie) he smiled at his two guests.

"Welcome to my home." he said stepping to the side to let them pass through the open gate "You made quite a few waves, not to mention caused a few shocks when your nation signed certain international treaties. It's not often I've seen some of the people around here that surprised."

Stardust Cup 2020

The Stardust Cup is a 24hr motorsport endurance race, the track runs through the countryside and forests surrounding the central part of the city of Artaxia in Aelmoor province, it is an open event meaning that various different cars can be entered. The winner is decided by which car completes the furthest distance in the allotted twenty four hours.

OOC explanation - This is basically modeled on the Le Mans 24 hr race, there may be an associated event based RP to go with this, you are permitted to enter up to five teams for this for each team I need a team name, nation of origin and the car they're driving (with a wikipedia link to the car if possible), the car info is required because I may be required to sort cars (and therefore teams) into different classifications - if someone enters a VW Golf for example it wouldn't be competing against a Ferrari.

Peter smiled slightly as he stood up "When I took the Achkaerinese throne, I like every Achkaerinese Emperor or Empress before me and every one that will come after me gave what we call the Covenant Address, in which I spoke not as a man who had about an hour earlier been crowned Emperor but more as a father, a father who looked at Mundus and still looks at Mundus and strives as best I can to leave Mundus in a better place than I found it for the generations that come after." he ran a hand through Serenity's hair ruffling it up a bit and getting a giggle from his daughter "That is my guiding thought for my additions to this charter."

Quote from: Dunwich Charter, as presently constituted
The Empress of the First Empire of Rokkenjima, Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher, representing His Majesty's Government in the Kingdom of Tytor, Emperor Peter Azurewind representing the Holy Empire of Achkaerin [ETC, ETC] being met together on [DATE], deem it right to make known certain common principles in the national policies of the respective Governments of the Cross-Straits Community on which they base their hopes for a better future for Mundus.

First, their countries seek a day where no man, woman or child is held in servitude. Whether this servitude be in the chains of slavery, the scourge of forced sexual labour, or the practice of indentured servitude the quest for equality, and ensuring the rights of all Mundusians, must continue to be fought just as strongly as it was in the grand Progressive Era which gave us several cornerstone international accords advancing the rights and freedoms of all Peoples.

Second, they desire to ensure the internal and territorial integrity of all nations and the prevention of a new era of imperialism. Countering the interventionist policies of certain nations while supporting legitimate governments in moments of vulnerability ensures that no state may take advantage of another to forward their own goals and objectives at the expense of another sovereign state.

Third, they will endeavour to protect international accords and norms as to prevent them from being subverted by certain states in the advancement of their interests. The utilization of international accords as weapons by states in the pursuit of their foreign and military policies dilutes the effectiveness of said Accords, as well as the faith of the community of nations in those Accords.

Fourth, they declare their commitment to the basic freedoms of humankind, which every human being on Mundus ought to enjoy by right, namely Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.

Fifth, they reaffirm their loyalty to the ideals of democracy and self-determination, holding the will of the people to be sacrosanct.  History has shown the path of the tyrant and of the autocrat to be an easy one, but it is the path of the democrat and of the people's representative which is the more fulfilling.  Recognizing the ease with which democracy can be subverted, they pledge greater effort on behalf of both its maintenance and its spread.

Sixth, they affirm that the use of military force must only be pursued when there exists no other option, in a proportionate not disproportionate manner and in keeping with International laws and conventions. The lands of Mundus bear many scars inflicted by the convenient use of military force by those who have sought to impose their oppressive mindsets on others, who believe that "might makes right" who believe because they have power that they can do whatever they please, not so just because something can be done does not mean it should be done. There is no justification in the killing of others simply because they do not share your point of view, your faith, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation or similar, and the legacy of several genocides across Mundus makes it clear that "Never again." must mean "Never again."

Seventh, they declare that the days of nuclear weapons are over and must remain so. It is owed to all the peoples of Mundus to ensure that the universal disarmament of nuclear weapons as carried out by the Holy Empire of Achkaerin, Kingdom of East Moreland and First Empire of Rokkenjima and verified by members of the international community stands the test of time. No nation should be allowed to visit weapons of this ilk upon Mundus, the parties shall undertake greater vigilance and do everything in their power to ensure these weapons, once consigned to history, do not return.

Eighth, they make known their belief that one cannot simply walk by on the other side when disaster strikes, whether it be earthquake, volcanic eruption, tsunami, pandemic or other such occurrence. There is no price that can be put on a life and irrespective of political disagreement, sanctions of any sort, legal proceedings etc, the Community shall not turn its back in the face of such disaster, if help can be offered then it must be offered.

Ninth, they commit to the ideal that the planet of Mundus must be left in a better condition than it was found. Work into cleaner, renewable sources of energy is needed, developments must account for environmental damage, more care for the environment in general is needed, we have only one planet and it should be cared for.

As Serenity sorted out her ruffled hair, still with a grin on her face, Peter looked at the Ikan Emperor "I believe Your Majesty that passes the baton to you."

Losa smiled again and made more notes, this was going well the answers were detailed and the lack of flags raised by Union members beforehand made this process a lot more simple. "So where do you see Josai in say five years time?" she asked

Hazel mentally pinched herself, she had to be careful, she had to remember that as much as she was growing fond of Ade that she still had a cover to maintain - a cover that had been her whole life but such was the way of the Bene Gesserit in hiding across Mundus Live the lie until the lie becomes your life. She took a breath and smiled her eyes brightening for a moment "I grew up in Achkaerin but my home...like yours is gone, taken away by something, by someone...every night when I close my eyes I can pretend even if only for a moment that it never happened, that we were never forced to flee to escape the devastation and destruction." she sighed "But I guess nothing is really gone not while those that remember it are still around."

GOVERNMENT TABLES NEW BUSINESS SECURITY LEGISLATION

Minister of Trade Viola Summers introducing the legislation

By David Woods: Political Correspondent

The Government has introduced new legislation in the Senate today, the proposed legislation an amendment to the Trading Regulations (Freestone Mark) Act (2018) will see an extra layer added to the trading licenses of businesses operating on Achkaerinese soil. Under the existing legislation all businesses operating on Achkaerinese soil must meet from the day of their incorporation the criteria for a bronze grade Freestone Mark and then twelve months later a silver grade Freestone Mark and then in accordance with the provisions of how the Mark operates a Gold Mark obtained by October 2021, the existing Act does make provision for companies incorporated more recently than the passage of the Act in that they are afforded three years from date of incorporation to acquire all the Mark grades. The existing legislation also makes clear that a businesses license to trade on Achkaerinese soil is dependent on having the Freestone Mark. The amendment tabled today adds that a businesses licence to trade on Achkaerinese soil is also dependent on not aiding and abetting in any form slavery. The proposal is expected to pass through the Senate when a vote is called and depending on how long the debate takes could be law by the end of the week. When asked, during the debate, what prompted the Government to bring forward the legislation, Minister of Trade Viola Summers (pictured above) said: "There is a disturbing trend that has emerged in recent times in some nations on Mundus who have begun to trade on the principles of that which they have signed, this amendment ensures that on Achkaerinese soil businesses not only comply with the letter of the law but the spirit and principle of it as well."

AADC DEVELOPING NEW HARPY

By Penny Noble: Defence Correspondent

AADC have released their first concept for a replacement of the Raven (the Raven was decommissioned in 2016), the proposed successor (concept image above) is called the Harpy, a name that carries weight within the history of both AADC and the Achkaerin Air Force. The Harpy was one of the most iconic fighter aircraft of the Great War years and many model replicas sit outside Achkaerinese airbases. The Airforce has not disclosed the specifications it asked for or the role it hopes this new Harpy to fill, though many analysts believe that this is not a conventional fighter aircraft rather that this is likely to be classified as a specialist aircraft by the Air Force should it enter service. In related news the Achkaerinese Airforce has announced that the Kestrel is to be retired from service later in the year after over half a century in use, it is believed that AADC will be working on a replacement aircraft.

EMPEROR AND CROWN PRINCESS OPT FOR SURGERY

By Niamh Roberts: Royal News Correspondent

Emperor Peter and Crown Princess Serenity have decided to undergo the new surgical procedure being trialed in East Moreland. The procedure which has already seen the King of East Moreland go under the knife will hopefully give the Emperor and Crown Princess back at least some of what they've lost in the way of their limb injuries. The announcement of the decision was made by Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright who said: "As we've said in prior releases the Emperor and Crown Princess were considering this. With the Life Day celebrations now over and having a few weeks before the transition to the new Celestial year they've decided to take the opportunity to go under the knife themselves, due to the Crown Princess's current workload in her capacity as a Lieutenant in the navy the Emperor will most likely undergo surgery first with the Crown Princess at a later date. Due to the surgical procedure still being very much a new thing this will of course occur in East Moreland, as will initial days of recovery after the operation."

Map / MAP PURGE NOTICE (Delayed 2020 purge)
« on: January 10, 2021, 05:45:30 PM »
Attention everyone

As Cartographer I'm giving notice that at the next update it is my intention to conduct what I refer to as a map purge (happens once a year in this case delayed from 2020 due to rl so there will be a 2021 version later in the year), inactive nations will be removed, I'm sorry but there comes a point when we have to remove inactive nations that have just sat there and no communication has been received from the players.

The map purge will occur with the next update which will hopefully (again subject to rl) be at the end of January to give people time to let either myself or Dave (as RP Mod) know that they want to stay on the map. This does not apply to the active players.

If anyone has a query grab me on Discord.

STARDUST CUP MAKES COMEBACK

By Felicity Stewart: Sports Correspondent

The Stardust Cup is to make a comeback ninety years since the last time the competition was held. But in a few weeks for the first time since then the corners and straights of Artaxia's forest circuit will echo to the sound of horsepower as cars of all shapes, sizes and powers race around the circuit for twenty four hours. The event's resurrection began at the local level and a petition submitted online garnered support, including in high profile places, and with donations flooding in things have taken shape over the last few weeks and today the Achkaerin Motoring Association announced the race was returning to the calendar. The race, an open event, has already captured the imagination with several teams entering and there are all manner of ideas being entered with the only restriction being the safety test.

For half a second Anja was surprised, the Sullustan from the Cluster here? First the human and now him? She smiled the Force really did work in mysterious ways sometimes and it was all she could do to trust it and have the faith that this was happening for a reason. Just as she had trusted the man who'd followed her home she had to trust the person in front of her now. She knew it was no longer safe to be on Nar Shadaa, the Empire was hunting for something maybe it was the Holocron, maybe ultimately it was what the Holocron contained, after all just because Anja didn't know the language didn't mean the Inquisitorius lacked the means to decipher it, far from it.

"Initially I need passage for myself, this gentleman, a group of ten war orphans and the man from the club that the Empire were shaking down to Telos." Anja said "After that I may require your further services and I'll explain why once we're underway."

Covering Bases

Gemma Sanders had never been to Tytor before, which was most likely a shame considering the landscape of the country, that would all be changing rather soon though, why? She was the assigned bodyguard to Crown Princess Adriana of Rokkenjima, probably the most high profile job she'd ever had in her time as a Justicar, not to mention probably also the most challenging as it included everything from chaperoning the Crown Princess around to clearing her schedule to essentially being the big sister in all but name. It also meant that when Adriana went to attend school in Tytor Gemma wouldn't be far away. The school in question was Anson Preparatory Academy, otherwise known as Anson Prep. It was going off the prospectus a fine school and from the looking around she was doing at that very moment she was even more impressed. Plus from all the communication she'd had with the school, once she'd known where Adriana was going, she knew that they were more than happy to accommodate the security side of things. Gemma closed her eyes as she stood in the open space outside one of the school buildings and mentally ran through the internal layout of the school, memorising every exit, every path to each door. She smiled as the gentle breeze went through her short hair and tickled her. It was at this point that her phone rang.

"Hello?" Gemma asked answering it.
"How's the school?" it was the voice of the Viceregent of Rokkenjima Emerson Ravenswood
"Certainly lives up to expectations." Gemma said
"Place to live?" Emerson said
"Sorted." Gemma said, there was an Achkaerinese Intelligence safe house about fifteen minutes away on foot.
"And you've got the list of things Adriana's going to need?" Emerson said
"Yes." Gemma said.
"Just remember your job is to protect and look after her but remember to take care of yourself as well." Emerson said
"I'm planning on it." Gemma said

Diplomacy and Events / Re: Tensions in Yrket
« on: January 04, 2021, 02:37:00 AM »
Kaitlyn breathed a sigh of relief half an hour later when she arrived back at the newly instituted Convent in Yrket, the place was slowly filling up with boys and girls from families, some Namist, some not. It seemed that in the darkest moments people were clinging tooth and nail to hope, the rooms of the complex now resembled closer to a boarding school, the boys and girls lived in rooms, they worshiped in the temple sanctuary, they honed their skills in the courtyards and soon they'd be able to formally begin training this new generation of Maiden Sisters and their male counterparts. The big surprise had been the monks who'd lived at the mission for years now, they weren't accustomed to having this many people inside the walls but they were stepping up to the challenge before them. However it wasn't this that bothered Kaitlyn, they were now in what by the standard calendar was the new year but the Celestial Calendar, the calendar that the Cult of Namis ran to wasn't at the turning of the year quite yet, nor would it be for another few weeks however when that day came it was usually a prominent celebration with a strong amount of religious observance. If things continued as they were here then Kaitlyn wondered what things would become like if they got worse and a day like that loomed larger on the horizon.

It was perhaps not surprising that the Achkaerinese ambassador didn't personally attend the appointment rather an agent had been sent in his place and as befit the occasion it was one of Achkaerin's highly secret intelligence operatives, one of their Justicars, that actually turned up. In this case it was Liam Calvin dressed in a business suit, he looked every bit the diplomatic aide and managed to hide how much he loathed wearing a necktie. Sitting down at the table opposite Anijuk he paused for a moment before extending his hand in greeting "I'm here on behalf of Ambassador Thwaites." he said "Call me Calvin."

People v Nekthou Pt 3

There hadn't been a case this high profile in this court since the days of the Andean Genocide trial, but here it was the trial of the man who had harmed Clysperis. Nekthou sat resolutely in a seat next to his court appointed attorney Commander Patrick Sterling, normally he'd have had someone to sit second chair but not on this one. Stepping into the courtroom with their papers were the prosecution team Lieutenant Serenity Azurewind and Ensign Charlene Brightwall, they made their way to the wooden table across the aisle from where Patrick sat. There was the added edge that the sentence on the table, the sentence Serenity was instructed to seek was the death penalty - she didn't like it, she didn't believe in the death penalty but it was her job this time and she knew that there were cases where she wouldn't have complete latitude and this was one of those. She wasn't unaccustomed to the media presence in the courtroom either, it had been this way for the Andean Genocide trial, everyone stood as the three judges made their way in and took their seats, the seasoned figures of Lt Colonel McCleod of Seaforth and Major Aquilla of Aquitaine sandwiched the equally experienced Commander Melanie Armitage.

"Ladies and gentlemen." Melanie said as she shuffled her papers "We come to the trial of the People v Nekthou. The defendant is charged with the following offences: Breach of article 2.4 of the Uppsalla Convention by route of article 3.1 in relation to the Apne mosque attack and other atrocities of civilian deaths during the Clysperi Civil War. Breach of article 8.8 and by association 8.2 as well as breaches of articles 8.7 and 8.6 of the Uppsalla Convention in relation to the conduct of forces under your command in the Clysperi Civil War. Breach of article 2.9 of the Uppsalla Convention by route of article 3.1 and breach of article 3.4 in relation to the actions of forces under his command during the Clysperi Civil War. Mr Nekhtou how do you plead to the charges?" All eyes snapped to Nekhtou who was still on his feet.
"Not guilty." Nekhtou said
"So entered." Melanie said "Lieutenant Azurewind."

"Thank you Your Honour." Serenity said getting to her feet and stepping out from behind the table "The accused is a man who for several months actively sought to undermine the legitimate leadership of Clysperis that is vested in their Pharaoh. In the course of these efforts the accused orchestrated an attempt on the Pharoah's life and subsequently sparked a civil war in the country, during that civil war forces under his ultimate command carried out atrocities, vandalised religious buildings, executed civilians and looted the cultural heritage of Clysperis. He is a man who held, prior to his insurrection, the rank of General in the Clysperi military a man who took an oath to protect the people of Clysperis, to protect the land of Clysperis and to serve the legitimate leader of Clysperis - the person with the title of Pharaoh. An oath he betrayed multiple times. The prosecution will show that he orchestrated all of that which he is charged with and gives notice that it seeks the death penalty as afforded under Clysperi law and granted under the Uppsalla Convention."

As Serenity sat down there were a few murmurs around the room as Patrick stood up "Your Honour the defendant is a seasoned military officer, respected by his peers not only in Clysperis but internationally, he is the man who returned Clysperis to its rightful people and out of the Soviet grip. Like all military officers he took an oath to protect and serve the people and today he sits in a courtroom accused of crimes by the government that he swore to serve, the question is not do the charges have merit but rather why after years of faithful service did the defendant, a respected general with an otherwise unblemished service record, choose to go against the oath that he once swore, as a General he understands such an oath and the consequences associated with its violation, given the calibre of the defendant the suggestion that this was a choice made easily or for personal gain is inappropriate and that he much more sound intentions than what will be portrayed by the Prosecution."

"Your Honour." Serenity said rising as Patrick finished "May I have a moment to confer with defence counsel?" Melanie nodded and Serenity led Patrick over to a corner of the courtroom "The soapbox defence? really?" she asked in a hushed whisper "Your answer to the charges is to play on the sympathies of the court?"
"Take the death penalty off the table and we'll change the plea right now." Patrick replied
"You know I can't." Serenity said
"Then soapbox it is." Patrick said
"Fine." Serenity said

Madison nodded and looked around the table "Both motions pass without opposition. I congratulate our new Secretary General and Chair of the Commission on their new positions." She paused "We come now to item number four titled 'declaration of the membership' for which I will hand the floor to the Empress of Rokkenjima to introduce and guide us through." she nodded in Evanthe's direction.

The Illumic Channel might well have been one of the busiest and most secure shipping lanes on Mundus but even that didn't detract from the beauty of the place. The INS Fawn Azurewind was heading back out into the middle of the channel, from there she would turn north and head for home on the return leg of the vessels latest Operation Forager journey. In her quarters aboard ship the Commanding Officer Captain Charity Ashton lay on her bed reading The Lord of the Rings, it was one of her favourites and as the condition of the pages would attest it was a book that had been leafed through many times. She was about to turn yet another well worn page when the intercom came alive with noise.

"Condition yellow, condition yellow." the voice of the officer watching the bridge came over the intercom "Captain to the bridge."

Charity grabbed her uniform jacket and ran out of her quarters up to the bridge pulling the jacket on as she ran, stepping onto the bridge she looked around "Yes Lieutenant?" she asked addressing the officer watching the bridge.
"Unidentified vessel off to starboard." the Lieutenant said
"Contact?" Charity asked getting a pair of binoculars and looking through them to see that there on the water just drifting there was what appeared to be a freighter, no flag, no lights, no sign of a crew.
"None." the Lieutenant said
"So East Moreland, Seaforth, Hassfurt, Heyra and us have naval presence in this area and that thing just happens to be there?" Charity asked rhetorically although she knew how vast in terms of area the Illumic was. "All right have Captain Ford take her troop over there and let's see what there is there."
"Aye Captain." the Lieutenant said

Lass Ford was a Captain in the Achkaerin Special Forces, normally hanging around aboard a naval vessel wasn't their gig but Forager's true objective necessitated a presence for security reasons. Taking a small craft across the six person team boarded the vessel and began to look around sweeping up and down the top deck, still no sign of a crew, Lass nodded and signaled for the team to head below decks the lack of a crew was really worrying and the worry increased with each empty room until they found out why - in the cargo hold, packed like sardines were numerous dead bodies.

Megan Ramsey had been sat quietly at the back of the room as Grace Yacobs had spoken, she wasn't technically assigned to the Achkaerinese embassy she was Princess Euphemia's bodyguard but as the Princess was attached to the Rokkenjiman embassy that put Megan in Northfort and available for briefings such as this. As Grace spoke Megan was browsing through the Justicars encrypted and electronic morning briefing data that included pictures taken the previous night on a vessel found adrift the previous night in the Illumic with dead bodies found in the hold. As she perused the images on the device she was using she stopped at the image of one of the dead girls shoulders it had a mark that exactly matched the one that Yacobs was briefing them on. As the briefing ended Megan very quickly went through the routine of what to do before she walked over to the table where Yacobs had sat down, Megan showed her ID as discreetly as she could, it wasn't that she was trying to hide that she was a badged member of the intelligence community it was more that she wasn't advertising that she was a Justicar there were very few on Mundus who knew who they were - Grace Yacobs was one of that group, though Megan had never met her before. Megan put the device on the table showing the images.

"Taken on a ship found adrift in the Illumic last night." Megan said "Looks like your fellowship of Helus. We're investigating the ship itself trying to find out where it came from."

Statement on Continuing Situation in Kopsje

The Achkaerinese Government has continued to note the evolving situation in Kopsje. Throughout the course of this situation Achkaerinese citizens in Kopsje and Namists as a whole have been advised, whether by the Foreign Office or the Cult Leadership to comply with the law of the land, this advice will continue. At this time the Achkaerinese Government will not enact a blanket travel restriction to Kopsje however we do suggest that those people intending to travel there consider the importance of their trip and whether making it is of critical importance to them.

In relation to the statement of the Authority & Administration Council of Dzunho, it is hoped that evidence of criminal activity will be provided to the Achkaerinese embassy in regards to any Achkaerinese citizen or cleric of the Namist faith whose arrest is sought so that the appropriate legal action can be undertaken by the Achkaerinese Foreign Office. We do not presently have any information of any Namist cleric being involved in any violent protests, it would be most troubling if they were involved as it would be incompatible with their priesthood vows.
